Review Old Man Pho - Melbourne

I have been here several times, foods and beverages are excellent and very consistent. Also I have tried lemongrass tea for the first time, it’s very refreshing. Prawns spring rolls is also very delicious. Besides, the waitress today around (6.30pm)is really amazing, not only working hard, she also have a good attitude and great customer service. Lastly, I would recommend to order combo set. It’s worth the price.

So glad I ordered the tofu Banh Mi! It was tasty and the tofu tasted fresh too. The roll was also toasted and was served warm and crisp! Definitely will come back again. Lady at the counter was friendly too. A great dining experience :)

✨Vietnamese feast✨ at 📍 @oldmanpho Docklands This place was recently renovated and I really love the green and blue colours 💚💙 During lockdown, I had many takeaways from their other stores and was super excited to finally had a chance to dine in! We tried their 🍜 Pho combination - beef, beef ball, brisket & pulled chicken 🍜 Chicken Vermicelli noodle 🥖 Cripsy pork banh mi 🫓 BBQ pork bao 🍹 Lemongrass iced tea ☕️ Vietnamese iced coffee The chicken 🍗 pieces was so tender and smokey from that slight char. Ohhhh! Drizzling the fish sauce over the whole vermicelli bowl just elevated the flavours! WHO ELSE LOVES FISH SAUCE and drown their food in it?! 😝 The bao was fluffy and soft… BBQ pork was coated with hoi sin sauce that just oozes out when you bite into it 😋 Oh god, I’m getting hungry just thinking about it again ✅ Highly recommend their food and I’m keen to try out their other stores too! Follow me on IG @eatwithmishy for more food reviews and adventures 😉

Was hungry and dropped into this place which didn't look that flash from the outside (looked more set up for takeaways), but sat down and enjoyed what turned out to be a suprisingly good meal. I had the Danang Noodle which was excellent. Still puzzled as to what one of the vegetables was - tasted a little bit like fennel root, but might be green Jackfruit or something else. Was good whatever it was Also had a Hanoi; I like to match the beer with the same country as the cuisine, so all good

Ordered the Wagyu Phò for both me and my partner. Quite pricey and wasn't really amazing. Portion was pretty small which was dissapointing. We both felt sick afterwards too when we went to the National Gallery of Victoria an hour later. Had to sit down every now and then. Vietnamese food is my favourite and this place was a bit of a let down unfortunately. You can find better Phó places out there.

Great service, great food with great deals. For ~18 AUD I got pho, banh mi and a drink. The pho was perfect during the cold weather. Broth was light and flavorful (it’s on the sweeter side which I like). Banh mi was crispy and great. Will come back. I wish they gave us nuoc cham instead of peanut sauce for the rice paper rolls, though.

This store offers another Western take on popular Vietnamese dishes. Their fastfood-style pho, broken rice and vietnamese spring rolls were not great, but good enough. Service was quick and the place was clean. I really like that the staff actually requested to see our vaccination status when we were ordering. She did the same on other customers. Ample outdoor and indoor seats also enabled social distancing.

Banh mi was not authentic. Not enough pate. The mayo tasted like normal mayo and not Vietnamese mayo. And it had lettuce in it?! Service was good and quick But not the place to go if you are a banh mi connoisseur

The restauarnt here in docklands opens pretty early so i managed to have a quick meal before i started work, the pork was really crunchy and the portion size was amazing for the size the food was tasty and i overall enjoued it. Their banhmis are alright were a nice snack to have on the go

I like the one in the city better. This one the Vietnamese rice paper rolls were a little bit too moist and the tofu bao took a while to come. The tofu bao was hard to eat because it was so big for the hand. Roll'd's one is smaller and easier to eat

We have lived nearby for a year now and only just tried it out, wish we had tried it sooner!

We were really impressed with the size and taste of the baos and the rice and noodle dishes with Crispy Pork were tasty, although didn't expect the chilli at the bottom of the noodles!

Definately recommend trying out.

We ordered a Bahn Mi and Viet Salad and were charged $20, only to notice after we started eating they offered a roll, pho (which costs more than the salad), and soft drink for $16.50. Just annoying the staff don’t just point that out. Anyway, the roll was on the smallish side and lacked filling apart from meat. Could do with a bigger lashing of pickled carrot. Tried the tofu salad and it was delicious, nice and spicy with fresh salad and noodles.

Ordered a pork banh mi from this docklands outlet. Fast and friendly service, unfortunately got the additional of chilli despite asking for its exclusion. Whilst I thought the banh mi’s you can get from Abbotsford or Footscray far outweigh this one, I did appreciate the deliciously crisp and fresh roll!

I loved the interior of this place. It was so cute. I vegetarian rice paper roll with tofu. A different cusine, with good taste and very healthy.

First time at this establishment and I tried the Vietnamese roll for lunch.
Fresh ingredients and a nice hot toasted roll.
Prompt service with a smile.
Try it out for yourself next time you are at District Docklands Shopping precinct.

Okay the photos may not do the justice for the food but hey, it’s just a stall in a food court and I’m blown away by how tasty these are. My pho is average though but the portion is okay and the chicken curry is just so good with rice, veggies and so many thing with only $15. I mean, i won’t complain.
The service is average even though there wasn’t crowded at all. They could’ve paid extra attention to the customers but they just look super dead instead.

Had the crispy pork vermicelli bowl, marinated beef vermicelli bowl and a chicken bao taco. All in all, it was ok? The beef was a tad dry, the bao of the bao taco was very soft but the chicken was great. The vermicelli bowls isn’t little but isn’t filling.
Service was good, the girl gave me the wrong order for my take out but she did warn me not to order both the noodles + the bao taco because I wouldnt be able to finish it. That was kind of her.
Since a whole wall is open, a lot of birds and flies will come in and land on your table.

Overall, its pretty decent. I would like to try the pho but it’s just too hot for soup noodles.

Ordered a beef pho and Vietnamese iced coffee. The pho had a very rich broth and was nice. The coffee was a bit bitter in the beginning but once you get used to it, it is pretty nice. It has a very strong coffee taste to it.
Sunny Days Melbourne
For an Old Man, this place has a modern and hip feel to it. Each table has the prerequisite sauces so you know you're off to a good start.
The Danang Noodle with shrimp paste looked as beautiful as it tasted. The noodles were cooked just right and the shrimp paste was not too overwhelming.
We also had the Roast Pork Vermicelli rice noodles with marinated pork - the meat was well seasoned and super tender.
This pleasant pho joint is a great addition to Docklands!

2.5 ⭐️ but more of a 3 than 2.

District Docklands always have a lack of food choices and especially now that a few eateries has closed down. We decided rather than go Yum Cha to try Oldman Pho and much to our surprise, we were pleasantly surprised. Look, it wasn’t amazing, but our expectations were so low to begin with!

We ordered a chicken vermicelli salad and a serve of mixed spring roll. It obviously doesn’t compare to viet in footscray, springvale, Richmond, but compared to Roll’d, they are pretty much on par. The spring roll tasted fairly good, and you do get the lettuce to wrap it with and fish sauce to dip, however I found their fish sauce watered down. Stingey.

Chicken vermicelli salad was ok, the chicken was tender and flavourful however the lack of herbs and cold noodles (I am expecting a warm vermicelli noodle salad) plus the stingey watered-down fish sauce was enough to put this place down to a 2.5 ⭐️.

The service was quick though and food came pretty quickly, which is always good when you have whingey kids. They also have one (and only one) high chair available.
The Casual Diner
Caught out here on a rainy and windy day, and was glad to have a pho option in this part of town to warm the body. I had the Old man beef pho, and whilst the serving was reasonably generous, the soup stock was a little short on flavor. It’s not bad, just not great. It does serve a variety of Vietnamese fast foods ranging from home made Bahn Mi, to rice paper rolls as a counterpoint to the other chain fast food joints like Nandos and Subways though.

2 Mi quang noodle - good mix of ingredients but not wow. Balanced soup, fatty pork, wide egg noodles which is rare but they were extremely dry
3.5 Danang noodle - acquired taste sardine sauce is authentic viet. Plenty rice vermicelli and balanced amount of vegetables and meat. Roast pork a little dry.
4 avocado smoothie - 1 avocado 2 spoons condensed milk non sugar is sweet enough and balanced

**Review is for take-away only

I'm not sure what it is about this precinct but there doesn't seem to be many exciting food options and every place takes so long despite crowds or not. I wanted something fast and tasty for a quick lunch and banh mi seemed to be a good option.

Growing up in the South-Eastern suburbs, I am used to my banh mi around $5, ordered and in my hand in 2 minutes. It's Docklands so I understand the $7 price tag but the wait was a little too long considering the rolls were already pre-made/prepped, just add protein of choice and in the warmer.

+ves:
Warm and crunchy bread roll, was not expecting that. Chicken was marinated well and there was enough sauce without overpowering. Decent amount of veggies and carrots were nicely pickled.

-ves:
Pet peeve, when asking for no chilli and biting into a roll full of birdseye burning chilli! I wanted to share with my kids but couldn't. No use going back for another as I didnt have time to wait again. Although tasty, it didn't have the authentic taste of usual banh mi, could barely taste the pate and mayo through it. I've had better but I've definitely had worse.

Service was friendly enough. The broken rice and vermicelli dishes looked appealing. Will give them another go next time I'm there.

Banh mi was part of a combo deal with pho and drink. Pho was good despite them putting broth and noodle in the same bowl for take away (never okay for noodle soups), could’ve done with more beef and the usual lemon, chilli, herbs and bean sprouts (non existent) but I get it, it’s a special combo deal so they have to make cuts somewhere. My issue is with the banh mi, I’ve never had a banh mi with lettuce and no patè. So disappointing.

Rating 1 star is way too lenient for this 'casual dining'. If i could give this place a 0 star, it would have been more suitable. The food was horrible and it is a disgrace towards the Vietnamese cuisine as a whole. My recent dining experience here was a disaster. I came home from eating at OLDMAN PHO with a severely food poisoning, and this lasted for several days. Not only was the food that they serve were old and stale, the staffs here are likewise, extremely ignorant and unhelpful. I have never given any dining place a bad review before, but this was such a traumatic experience for me.

The rice paper rolls were bland and hard because it was in the fridge for who knows how long! The Pho broth was not flavoursome compared to other places.

Dined here mid afternoon on a Saturday with my daughter Not a very busy time. Ordinary Bland even. BBQ chicken rice paper rolls were missing the chicken..or at least it was a tiny amount. Bought water...asked for a glass...given 2 plastic disposable cups. Ridiculous. Table didn't have cutlery and when it was brought out there was 1 spoon and no fork. I felt as though all these people care about is taking your money and giving you the absolute minimum. I won't eat there again as there are many better places in that area.

Definitely recommend the iced coffee here - very strong and not too sweet.

Also tried their rice paper rolls which are nice and fresh. Got a bbq pork banh mi which they toasted before serving - quite nice but can’t compare to the traditional ones.
I love this place. Finally some decent food in Docklands. It's supposed to be a fast food Vietnamese joint and I find it much better than Roll'd. Personally I wasn't expecting anything special but I was pleasantly surprised. It's quite affordable overall, the only item on the menu that is too expensive are the spring rolls but they're quite good. I usually get the Vietnamese bun with tofu and I really enjoy it. Give it a try

I come here occasionally for lunch during my work break as I work at the Fila store in the same complex. I haven't tried all the food they've got but I do really like their marinated chicken pho, the chicken is juicy and tender with just enough flavour to go with the soup 👍 I'm very keen in trying their bun cha next as my friend says it's also very yummy 👌 highly recommend!

Note: they don't sell soy bean milk anymore, which is sad 😥

Presentation of the food is amazing. I have tried the fried rice with chicken and the chile and gravy is very tasty. Healthy amount of rice is given with the option of choosing fried rice or steamed rice.

So good! I had the tofu vermicelli noodles and it was simply perfect! The service was really fast and for $15 including a drink I felt it was great value.

10/10 to this place for their Vietnamese coffee. The food isn't the greatest but it's also not offensively bad either. The staff are always friendly.

Had their Danang traditional noodle (shrimp paste) with pork belly. The shrimp paste was indeed smelly but tasted great when mixed with the noodle. The pork belly was bit chewy on the skin. Overall this dish could be better. This is a takeaway shop setting and it's nicely decorated.

Really enjoyed it here. Tasty pho, nice spring rolls and a nice layout of restaurant. Nice to have a place like this to go to nearby :) this text is just here to fill up 140 characters.

These were Really delicious tofu rice paper rolls with a yummy sauce. I would definitely buy them again another visit to the area. They were $3 each

Their Hoi An Chicken Rice was delicious! It was done in an authentic way, with chicken "salad" (poached free range chicken mixed with onion and Vietnamese mint in sweet and sour fish sauce) and chicken rice (rice cooked in chicken broth) special chilli sauce on the side, which really gave the tastebud a real kick! I would come back again for this dish alone! Haven't tried other dishes yet but the Quang noodle seems to be their best-selling since it ran out on the day we came.

An average pho place located in the harbour town . I have tried pho, spring roll , rice paper roll and bread roll. Pho is average with small portion but tastes ok. Rolls are average as well . Overall an average joint for harbour town.

Old man Pho will quickly become a favourite for all lovers of Asian cuisine!
The service is fantastic - a real blend of traditional and western influence.
You can't go past the banh mi - the classic Vietnamese rolls.
Absolutely loved it. Will definitely be back!

The Oldman Pho is awesome, specially they do some dishes from my hometown - Danang. It must try the vermicelli with Danang shrimp paste , crispy pork belly. I bet you can't find anywhere else in Melb serve it by this beautiful way! It made my day. The staffs also were so friendly, actually they offer us 10% discount just because they found out me and my sister came from the same town of the lovely owner. How sweet!

A must try! Will be back weekly. Not only amazing customer service - this place is clean, fresh and cheap!
We got the $15 combo which is a Vietnamese roll, A bowl of Pho and a Vietnamese Coffee. And they come to you with an iPad and take your order. The people make this place with the quick and kind service and as an added bonus - the food comes out quickly!
