Review Wolf + Hound - Melbourne

Sakshi Dez
The food was good. It seemed to have a really hipster twist on a lot of the classics. It's also catered a lot towards the vegetarian crowd so I was obviously happy. My partner was happy with the two toasts and a lot of bacon on his plate too. The coffee was okay. The hot chocolate was good - they actually customised it for me by adding more choc powder.

Such a hidden gem cafe that deserves a lot more attention and love 🥰 Seriously their dishes are delicious! We had: The Wolfie Smash - fresh avocado on beautiful sour dough. Yummy Pulled Pork Benedict - My pick of the day! I love the smokiness of the pulled pork and the egg was cooked beautifully Belgium Waffles - loving the waffles very much. Perhaps I would prefer an ice cream over whipped cream on this dish. Cubano Toasties - tasty toasties! Goldie Lox Bagel - loving this bagel so much! If you love bagels from Bobby’s Coffee in Melbourne CBD but you’re living locally to this cafe, then you’re in luck! You can now get those yummy bagels here too! A must visit cafe if you are in the area🌟👌🏻

What a hidden gem! This place is fantastic, it has delicious, filling and well priced food. As well as fantastic coffee and service.

The toasties there are amazing and presentation cannot be any better. However drinks were disapointing, the iced chai was extremely watered down and were served with 2 ice cubes and were slightly warm still. The hot chocolate was sour and did not taste like chocolate. Staff were extremely friendly contrasting the messy cafe with cardboard boxes filling the room. The cafe was cosily small.

Tiny spot, amazing coffee. Dog friendly too which is always awesome. The long black was so tasty, I’m almost unhappy that I don’t live closer. The coffee had such rich flavours that you could taste every single bit of the fragrant notes. The Portuguese tarts were good but not amazing, probably better freshly baked. The coffee was just divine and will most definitely be back.

Loved it! Their menu states that food might take a little longer because they don't compromise on quality, and boy did it deliver! Everything was delicious! Love how they have some of the items they sell, for sale, like coffee (from El Salvador!) and crumpets. Will definitely return.

Cute cafe - small & cozy but not pram or kid friendly (they don’t have high chairs) Coffee was great but food was average. Scrambled eggs were bland, sourdough was burnt and rock hard.
Ronni Scrapsaver
Small kitchen but service was not rushed and food was good. While my matcha latte was too weak and milky, my pulled pork Benny was really good. One of the better ones I have tasted in a while. The chilli scrambled egg was also well executed.

I tried to order twice from door dash , over the last week or so and both times after 20 minutes they cancelled the order
Nice little cafe which serves excellent coffee. Indoor seating are limited however, service was prompt and friendly

I am the most patient person going around and even I couldn’t deal with the incredibly poor service! There is only four inside tables yet we were continuously looked over despite being seated for 40 minutes and asking if we could order! However very cute decor.
Eating Away Melbourne
Such a lovely little shop, I am so impressed with them cooking just over a bench. And food was absolutely amazing! We ordered the chilli eggs with Bacon and the mushroom toastie. Both dish were great flavours! My iced batch was possibly the best Iced batch i have ever had and I was a cafe owner so I have had thousands of them!!

Service was so friendly! On a nice day like yesterday sitting outside soaking in the sun was the best!! Thanks boys!
Ironic Foodie
Small place but big heart! Was so impressed, it took me forever to decide what toastie but I think I made a spot on choice with ‘the Gracie’! Definitely will be back to try them all out!

First of all, the coffee here was fantastic! The staff were super friendly and it was quite a great start to the day. We had the Dr Marty's Sweet Crumpets and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The crumpets were delicious, it was super sweet but we finished the whole plate. Love the fresh fruits on it, makes the dish very refreshing.

The Chilli Scrambled Eggs was only a little bit spicy but I love the cheese flakes on top. They melt and add an extra layer of flavour!

The only downside is, the cafe is quite small so it might be hard if you have a big group. However, there are outdoor seating so you can definitely bring your furry friends!

Small coffee shop opposite the station. I ordered the grizz, which is mushroom and cheese on toast, simple but very well-balanced. The staff was friendly too.

Amazing little cafe hidden in the back streets of Flemington with just as cute staff! The food tasted amazing and the service was fantastic!
Whalesfoodadventure
Coffees came out real quick. Great soy flat white. Loved the beans. Soy chai latte was served differently to other cafes. Loved how there are still leaves in the coffee pot and they added a side of honey.
Sense Of Food
📝: Tucked away from the buzz of Flemington's Racecourse Road, Wolf and Hound is a compact, Jack Russell-sized brunch spot.

Wolf and Hound's white-tiled interior beckons you in, warm and inviting, with 'dog-friendly perks for pooches'.

The menu is designed to suit the cafe's small fit out. Neat and efficient, what the menu lacks in options, it more than makes up for in simple, flavoursome, absolutely tasty meals.

❤️: My two favorites of the simple flavors packed menus are the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Original Avo Smash.

I’m a huge chili fan, and I LOVE anything spicy. Fresh chili and kale scrambled eggs with Korean inspired Gochujuan mayonnaise, pecorino, salted zucchini ribbon salad, and fried shallots. And since I’m going all out, I thought I might as well add some extra bacon on the side.
————————————————————
.
.
.

An amazing brunch spot in Flemington and such lovely staff and food! It was a bit noisy out front with the dogs but expected as they are dog friendly. The dishes were amazing, great servings and very kindly brought us a cake for our friends birthday, which was so sweet! I recommend the ‘the general’ sandwich, it was amazing
Heleene34
Small cafe with amazing food and friendly staff! Ordered the cornbread waffles. Everything was cooked to perfection and well balanced, my favourite part of it being the slaw. Although this dish was quite filling, I did not struggle to leave a clean plate because it was that delicious 😋
Agreekable
What an absolutely gorgeous cafe! Situated in the beautiful Flemington, bang near a train so it’s easy to get too! The food and vibe here are top notch! Delicious crumpets that were heavenly! Scrambled chilli eggs and a wowza of a pastrami sandwich that’s sure to blow your taste buds away. Staff are very attentive, they’re super busy but they’re so friendly and will make you feel very relaxed!
Platecreative
✨Use to be crazy about sriracha in brunch dishes eg sriracha mayo 🔥, but now I have a new obsession...Gochujang🌶! This chilli scramble from wolf and hound has Gochujang mayo in it...and I have to admit, it tastes even better than sriracha🤤!

Wolf and Hound is located on Pin Oak Crescent in Flemington. Quite a small interior with limited seating & some tables out on the street it also seemed popular for take away coffees. A fairly limited menu but certainly covered all the bases.

We started with drinks, my friend loved her matcha latte & my iced latte was impressive. We ordered a few dishes to share & juices.

The Original Avo Smash was a tasty dish, served with chilli & garlic oil, fresh chilli, pecorino & toasted pepitas. We also added bacon jam which was absolutely divine & even better than it sounds.

The Gracie, baked garlic broccoli, cheddar, pecorino & sweet mustard pickle in toasted seeded bread was a winner. We added ham as well & this was one of the best & most delicious toasted sandwiches I’ve had. I’d happily go back again to have this sandwich, it really was that good, the flavours were amazing.

We finished with Dr Marty’s Crumpet French Toast. This dish was served with blood orange infused chèvre whip, blackberry compote, white chocolate shards & pistachio crumb. A visually pretty dish, I found the sharpness of the chèvre whip a bit tart & felt it lacked some sweetness.

A great little cafe with lovely staff & I loved the range of toasted sandwiches on the menu & the bacon jam was a standout. Thanks so much for having us.

Wolf and Hound is a little cafe in Flemington. They have small space inside and a larger space outside. We started off with OJ and matcha latte. Not a fan of matcha here as they have cinnamon in the matcha. But we love love love the food so much!! Totolly worth the visit. We tried their special Pickled Peach Salmon, avocado toast with bacon jam and waffle. All of them are so flavourful and perfect. We really love the bacon jam, so delicious we wish we live close by so we can visit them more often!
EnchantedSerendipity
Great place that is clearly a local favourite.

I had a latte - love their glasses for that. The food is creative and fun. Crumpets as french toast works. I didnt love the topping of whipped chevre which has goats cheese. I dont really like goats cheese personally which is why, but i can see what they were aiming for and if you do like it you will enjoy its addition. I think a marscapone or even white chocolate sauce would be nice for them to offer to really give it a creaminess as an alternative. But i may just be in the minority of disliking goats cheese anyway haha.

Overall a nice dish where everything else worked. Very pretty presentation too. Very insta worthy. Staff are really lovely. Great vibes all round.

I will never say no to a breakfast here. Nice place!

What a lovely little place to enjoy lunch. Highly recommend the bacon jam - it's on another level. Lovely crew that run it also and it would be great to see wholesome independents do well in Melbournes saturated cafe culture

It was a cold and windy day when we visited Wolf and Hound but we warmed up pretty quickly once the food we ordered came out!

Craig David - an interesting name which came with pan fried halloumi, chili labneh, mint syrup, fresh herb and pickled salad with poached eggs! I must say I have been a sucker for halloumi and this confirmed that I’ll still be one! The saltiness of the halloumi and the yolky eggs complemented the sourness of the pickled salad!

Sweet crumpets - I rarely see cafes use crumpets as their main dish but Wolf and Hound did it really well! Coupled with lemon curd, mascarpone, seasonal fruit, plum jam and toasted coconut - the flavors all became a sweet heaven! My favorite part about this dish was dried orange slices which won my heart over and made it my favorite dish of the day! 🧡

Potato waffles - filled with slaw, this baby was pretty tasty and a good option for the vegetarians! The crunchiness and sweetness of the waffles matched the saltiness of the slaw making it an enjoyable dish!

Wolf and Hound has delivered yummy food and we would love to visit again!

Wolf and Hound is a little on the cosy side, a lot on the friendly side and definitely a lot on the delicious side too! Enjoy their alfresco dining and welcoming...

Small cafe just across from Newmarket station, friendly staff and has a modern vibe to it. Coffee is good but costs above the average. The menu is a decent size but isn't too exiting. You know you'll get a good coffee so worth dropping in if you pass by.

After driving over an hour to check out this little café, we were so happy we did! We brought our dog with us and were pleased to find big outdoor tables, gas heaters, and a water bowl for Zeus.
The menu has some really unique options, so we opted for the "Craig David", Potato Waffles and shared the crumpet French toast - all of which were amazing! On top of the great food, the service was excellent! All the blokes were really friendly and attentive.
Honestly can't fault this café at all. Would recommend!
Check out the special latte portrait of Zeus..
Cheesy.boys
Coffee was nice, flavour on point but could have been slightly hotter. The menu is pretty brief and the venue is small so there isn’t a lot of indoor seating. Would head back for a cheeky takeaway coffee.

I recently dined at Wolf + Hound as a guest. This charming and cosy cafe is located along Pin Oak Crescent in Flemington close to Newmarket Station.

We ordered the Cornbread & Jalapeño Waffles, the original Avo Smash with an added poached egg and homemade bacon jam along with a chai latte, an OJ and some coffees.

As a chai enthusiast, I enjoyed the chai latte, which is made using Prana Chai. The chai was aromatic and flavoursome.

The standout dish for us was the avo smash, it’s hard to go wrong with a classic. I recommend that you add the poached egg and if you like bacon the delicious homemade bacon jam.

I look forward to returning and trying out their lunchtime toasties which look very appetising.

Overall we had a great experience at Wolf + Hound. The team are friendly and the service was excellent. Thanks again for having me. I recommend that you check them out if you’re in the area, I give Wolf + Hound 3.5 ⭐️ out of 5.

Wolf and Hound is amongst the strip of shops on the popular Pin Oak Crescent in Flemington (right near Newmarket station).

They have a series of breakfast meals (like smashed avo on toast, savoury waffles etc) and for lunch they offer a variety of toasted sandwiches.

They pride themselves on good coffee and they certainly deliver on this!

For breakfast we tried the vegan loaded crumpets and three toasties (the admiral with roasted eggplant, the grizz with mixed mushrooms and the General with pastrami). My favourite was actually the eggplant one, as it had a really lovely flavour.

The loaded crumpet dish uses two fresh Dr Marty’s crumpets so the quality is spot on. The whipped tofu gives a good creamy consistency and the dish has a fair amount of tang. The plum jam was a highlight and really lifted this dish.

The service is great too!

Thanks so much for having us!

Hidden gem quick walk from Newmarket train station. I’ve never sat down and had a meal but I regularly get coffee from here being a Flemington local.. The daily rotation of muffins are a somewhat decadent treat and pair perfectly with the specialty coffee that Wolf and Hound has to offer.

Worth the short walk up Pin Oak for sure!

Frequently visit the cafe. Excellent and affordable food choices: food quality is always consistantly good, great coffee, lovely location and very friendly and cordial staff.

Great coffee and food made with love. Definitely the most hipster cafe in the area - and I don’t say this lightly, prepare yourself for moustaches, quirky banter and off the grid style beats.

Just moved into the area and was trying to find a new local coffee shop. I think Wolf & Hound might just be it! Loved the Chilli oil on my smashed avo. Food quality was good. My long black was a tad acidic but it's was either probably too fresh a beans(?, trying not to come across as a snob drinker! Ha ha ) or the machine setting was a bit off (as the guy after me had to wait for his coffee due to the machine being jammed up) other than that, pretty happy with my experience. Friendly staff, observed a lot of regulars coming and going. I am up next me thinks! :)
Bobby
Small, good layout, good service and good food.

The coffee was excellent - honestly, why is it that La Marzocco machines make the best coffee? Thankfully, these guys have a nice La Marzocco machine.

Wow! I was so pleasantly surprised this afternoon with this simple avo smash and vegemite ! Firstly this was one of the few cafes open on a public holiday and they were under the pump and still were so lovely and welcoming and it was so humbling to be surrounded by such positive vibes! Now onto the food! Simple but delicious the bread especially that was used was super fresh and had a lovely crunch! I was super happy leaving this place and 100 percent will be back :)

Delightful little place, a bit out of the way but I'm glad I discovered it by accident! The staff were very friendly and the coffee was just perfect. Even the bagels they had on the counter were great, though I do wish I'd gotten around to trying their avo smash.
Nathan
Quaint coffee stop just off Flemington road in new market.

The coffee was on point with a great range from one of my favourite roasters Rumble Coffee.

Staff super friendly with some good food options.

If low key intimate coffee stops is what you're after id recommend checking this place out.
The Pet Roo
Sometimes small is best and this place is the perfect example. New owners are super friendly as are the staff. The coffee is excellent, very smooth and was keen to try the grilled sandwiches. We ordered the 'Gracie' and the 'Franklin.' The flavours of the 'Gracie' all work, how on earth they can get a broccoli sandwich to taste so good is beyond belief. The 'Franklin' which comprises of Pork Shoulder and ham was also good but lacked the zing of the 'Gracie.' So basically the vegetarian option was superior to the meat option which is great news for Vegos as 8 of the 9 standard menu choices comprise of no meat. If you can get a table inside, well worth it as in ear shot to what's going on in the open kitchen. If not plenty of outside seating on beautiful Pin Oak Crescent. I will make Wolf & Hound my 'no animal was killed for my lunch' place from now on.

LEGIT the best coffee in the area. Possibly the best coffee in Melbourne. I am a hardcore LB/espresso drinker and not many cafes do them well. Spoiler: Wolf and Hound does them well. Coupled with super friendly service, a super comfy and stylish space, and delicious basic cafe food, you can't go wrong. Just moved out of the area and missinggggggggggg W&H so baddddd y'all. Buy yaself a Butterbing cookie sandwich, have a chat to the lovely owner/barista Luke and get dat hit o' sweet, sweet caffeine and thank me later.
Hello. Imnikki
Simple is good, no? One page menu featuring toasts and crumpets, black or white coffee and tea. When you keep things simple, there's nothing to hide behind and that's when quality can shine through. The Franklin is go-to dish here, judging from the number of customers ordering this. Perfectly toasted and filled to the brim with meaty and moist pork shoulder and crispy ham and tangy mustard and pickles. The special of the day - crumpets with hummus, prosciutto and avocado - was another winner, both in taste and affordability. Our skinny lattes were perfect; balanced in flavour and milk was velvety smooth. Superb service from the three guys running the joint. We need more cosy neighbourhood cafes like this.
Aeroo
The coffee is the best out of all the places in the area by far. They really know their stuff here and are proper coffee pros in my opinion. They are also super friendly. Love it.
Bryan Hickey
This us a hreat local business with quality coffee supplied you by Rumble. They make tasty sandwiches and always provide friendly service. We will be back.

Great coffee and would love to return for a brunch. Definitely worth checking out and worthy of a train or tram trip if you are not local.
Friendly and familiar service.
Awesome coffee. Great friendly staff with a effective and tasty menu. Beautiful sandwiches and snacks. Small but still cold friendly. Highly recommended!

Great coffee spot in Flemington, we ordered takeaway as it was busy on a Saturday morning. Coffee was smooth and delicious. There's a simple and tasty looking menu and a few seats outside. Service was very friendly.

I love this little place near the station. Awesome coffee and snacks. Barista is super friendly and makes a fantastic coffee too! Love coming here on a sunny arvo. 👍👍👍

Love this spot!
Awesome coffee..... (Best in the area)
Great service...... Quaint little street....
Try the Franklin , it will not disappoint

This tiny, hidden away gem is a great morning stop for good coffee, and good food served up with a friendly smile. The food takes each dish to a step higher than seen elsewhere. It seems that they make up for the lack in space, with enthusiasm and passion. Also, the chocolate peanut butter whoopie pies are amazing!
Madamcafebeing
Nice coffee and even though breakfast menu is a little limited (no eggs) with the choices on offer I probably wouldn't have chosen eggs anyway. Avo smash was full of flavor on toasted grain bread with grated pecorino 👍🏻👍🏻 he had the Doc Marten crumpets with butter and honey!
Wolf Zimmermann
This is probably my favorite place for coffee. The coffee smooth, full flavored but with out a bad after taste that comes with some full flavored coffees the milk as also done perfectly. If you are into coffee give them a try.
Ed
Food is good but the service is just terrible. I've been in multiple times and the waitress either hates her job or hates customers. It's amazing just how rude she can be
GlassOfMalbec
It's just coffee here. While the coffee is on point, there's not too much food on offer is that's what you're after. However, if coffee is all that you desire then go for your life!
Champagne And Chips
You only have to head over to my ‘About Me’ page, the first thing I wrote when I created this blog, to see how much I love my dog. Ted is pretty much the centre of our universe (and our bed). So when we saw a cafe emerging nearby and spotted the owner working on his new venue with his dogs in tow, we sensed a kindred spirit. The dogs? A Wolfhound and a Greyhound, both rescue pooches, have given this super little local it’s name.

GOOD LITTLE CAFE BUT OVERPRICED -- This is a lovely quiet joint in Flemington.

They have a very good coffee and a small selection of eating options.

No egg for breakfast is a bit of a let down in a non-vegan cafe. Perhaps this is vegan, I don't know. No cooked breakfast either.

I ordered the Avo Mash Toast, and I was excellent. It took me by surprise that a simple dish like this can be really good if you bother to use good fresh ingredients and quality bread with a bit of imagination. The dish was a bit spicy, nutty and zesty. I really loved it.

If they were cooking hot meals, I would be heading in their direction without a problem. Pity that their menu is so small.

Mind you, the food is overpriced. My double toast and the coffee, 18 bucks is too much. Sorry, my opinion, as not much cooking is involved and the dish is made of cheap simple ingredients.

Friendly atmosphere.

Great music.

Nice staff.

Great joint for takeaway coffee or hurried breakies.
Sean Mitchell
These guys know coffee, good simple food which is delicious. This place is my current pick of pin oak for coffee. Super friendly Kiwi managers top it off.
Travis Hammer
My coffee was off the dial. Long black which was some sort of single origin, that allowed me to ride home on a Tiger. Thanks amigos
Katherine Sanchez
Yummy brunch in this cosy cafe. Tried this tiny cafe for the first time today. I was really impressed with the food - I had a broccoli, mustard and cheese toastie (the Gracie), and my partner had the avo smash. Both delicious! I loved my fresh mint tea as well. The only fly in the ointment was the rudeness of another patron, but you can't blame the cafe for their customers.
Thanks guys! We'll be back.

A cafe that isnt open on Sundays!!. Coffee is good, but both times I have tried to eat there they have closed the kitchen early for some reason! Not open on Sundays and charged me $3.80 for an espresso. Such a shame! I live 300m away and would have made this my new place to buy coffee, I will just stick to the old place I think.
Rara
Great coffee. Haven't tried the food yet but the coffee is excellent!

Great cafe. They've done well with a small space. Room for prams outside on a good day. Good little menu with great coffee. The cookie sandwiches are amazing!

Not baby/toddler friendly. Unwelcoming last week but thought I'd try again. No high chair in a suburb with lots of young children and babies!! Haven't even been able to try coffee!!
