Hard to believe that I was working for David Jones this time last year ... so much has happened since then but one thing I like to be reminded of is the great coffee that they serve at the espresso bar at the back entrance to the menswear building. A smooth blend that they used to also serve at the corporate head office and one I have come to miss. Also worth considering is their savoury muffins which are really nice just slightly heated.
I regularly head to David Jones Foodhall for my cake needs, particularly when I need to feed a large group at work for farewells or birthdays.
Heaps of variety, reasonably priced. The cheesecakes are my preferred option (raspberry, apple, new york, toblerone are some of the previous ones purchased!).
The great thing is, there are heaps of sizes to choose from! Don't really need to pre-purchase or book unless you want something specific. I head in here, survey the variety and grab one to go.
This is hands down one of the best places to grab a quick and healthy meal when one is on the go! I have always had experience with delightful and friendly staff, 5 stars!

Excellent service as shown a large majority of staff at David Jones and the selection is always vast . Pies are always at the right temperature and selection of breads is top notch .
A nice place to grab a bite to eat in the basement of David Jones. Very casual and a great selection of food and sweets. Upstairs is a good little cafe if you're not after lunch.
How did I now know this place existed until today?? Yes it's David Jones prices and it's crowded, but the choices were awesome! There's a cookie bar = super exciting.

Unbelievable -- a semi-bargain at DJ's. I don't usually associate anything concerning David Jones with the word "bargain" unless it's qualified by "not a" in front of the word. I never shop at DJ's because I regard it as the high-priced cousin to Meyer, and that's no op shop operation either. But I was pleased to find that some of the pastries at Babycakes are not outrageously expensive. The hedgehog slice I bought to have with a future coffee at home was only $2.95, and it's larger than a piece of the same confection that sells for $3.40 at the Michel's Patisserie at the base of my apartment tower. Plus it's got a higher chocolate-to-marshmallow ratio than the Michel's slice.
My only disappointment was finding that DJ's pastry place sells Boscastle pies. I used to think Boscastle was a good name, until I started eating actual decent pies. I thought David Jones would make its own pies, but upon reflection, I don't know why I had that idea. I don't expect them to create their own perfumes or designer clothing. So why should they bake their own pastry? They're a retailer, not a manufacturer, even when it comes to food.
