A cafe dedicated to the humble egg near busy South Melbourne market, Good Egg is a fun cafe with tasty, eggy dishes. They take a simple, everyday ingredient and transform it into excellent dishes (or maybe that should be eggsellent dishes). Lots of spins on classic egg dishes, there is something here for every egg fan.
Service is great, and the staff are lovely and friendly. The coffee here is also really good, but let's be honest, it's all about eggs here. We had two variations of scotch eggs... one with pork, and a vegetarian falafel version. Both were fantastic, flavoursome and moreish. Simple food, using fresh ingredients really works; and the Good Egg have stuck to a theme that works for them. It's only a small cafe, and often busy, proving that people really do love the simple things in life.
Good Egg is nothing short of great. The humble egg is the star here, and while it sounds simple on paper, quality produce and skillful execution ensure that it's much more impressive than it sound, or look.
The bacon and egg bun is exactly as the name suggest but don't let its simplicity fool you. Strips of glistening and juicy bacon, a pile of soft and creamy scrambled eggs, with gooey cheese oozing out, topped with a robust smoky sauce, and finally sandwiched between a sweet and fluffy challah bun.
The dippy eggs were of the same calibre. Simple but executed well. The toast soldiers were generously buttered and soaked up the yolk like a dream.
Our coffees were excellent too, as was the exceptionally friendly service. Nothing can beat the simple pleasures in life, and Good Egg is a prime example of this.
Love the cute name. The food was simple and tasty. We came a few times and tried everything we wanted to try on the menu. The dishes all have very interesting flavours and textures, the good egg was a great compliment to the dish.
Coffee was good.
Probably my go-to spot for after market errands for some good coffee and food. Simple but cooked with love every time that I’m here. Love how they have a variety of different hot sauces to go with the meals especially for someone who loves their spice.
Would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a good banter, coffee and food.
I really enjoyed my lunch at Good Egg today. They have such a laid back vibe and they are so good with my kid. There is not a huge space for prams and all, but they have story books for kiddo.
They have this mini bacon and egg burger for kiddies but I didn’t want him to have bacon and asked for avo instead and they kindly obliged.
I had the Mex burger which consists of scrambled eggs, avocado, jalapeños and beans with schiracha sauce was delish!
I wanted to try the scorched eggs and the wagyu beef burger next time!
Eggs in all forms but not #InYourFace sort....And how? Good Egg knows it well. They have managed to incorporate eggs in a way that the other elements manage to strike a tasteful balance without deviating the attention from it.
The crispy chicken egg burger and the Smoked.Salmon Egg were both amazing. Difficult to choose between the two. Hot chocolate and the Mocha were equally good.
Service is friendly.and pricing is decent. Place is quite small to accommodate just few and sitting out in the burning sun was killing , yet, we had a great time.
Recommended.
Good Egg is always good!!!
Love this place.
My favourite is the house smoke salmon. Yummy!! Poached egg on top with mayonnaise. I had it with sourdough toast rather than with the muffin.
Service comes with a smile. What more can you ask for in a great cafe - good food with good service. 👍
Great place, nice service with good tunes along the vibrant vibe of the South Melbourne Market, staffs are super friendly, solid and serious coffee. Awesome spot. Very recommend.
Good egg indeed! This place will satisfy all your ooey gooey yolky cravings. I highly recommend their “mex” (avo, beans, chips and jalapeno - a nacho burger!) and “burger” (good ol wagyu beef burger).
After an early wake-up and desperately needing coffee before the day’s adventures we headed towards the markets for breakfast. Most of the cafes in the area are quite small which added to the challenge of finding a place that would both have something for everyone and fit all six of us. We all agreed on dining at The Good Egg. We managed to find a table and the waiter brought out an extra bench so that we could all fit......

Small cafe just opposite the market. Laid-back vibe but serve surprising good coffee and breakfast meals. Owner is also flexible to my request to change the bread of my liking off the menu. The place is a bit small, so do avoid the busy periods.
Kings Acai Australia - Wholesaler
+4
Next to the South Melbourne Market, great location. I had the acai bowl, which was delightful but a very small size for the price unfortunately. The green tea was very delicious. It had some flowers on it. Overall it's a good place for breakfast.
Good quality food! portion size of eggs just brings it down, for what you pay I expect abit more on the plate. If it was priced abit better I'd definitely give it another star but none the less I enjoyed it and recommend. Coffee was also abit watery and bland
Small but cosy & cute cafe with an intimate vibe. Staff are always smiling and helpful. Coffee and food are good, not much to fault. They have some of the more uncommon dishes that you don't get at a lot of other breakfast places such as boiled egg with toast soldiers and also the scotch egg. Definitely a place to check out.
