Review Sushi Ten - Melbourne

Lovely authentic restaurant with a friendly service. Loved the ambiance. The food was amazing. Reasonable price and the portion size is generous. The salmon was fresh. They accept cash only. So remember to take. Definitely worth the visit. And we will keep coming back!

Authentic Japanese food served by a lovely couple. Delicious and value for money. Great service from the lovely couple who never fail to smile. They work between smile and exchange laughters. Abit of wait time as there were many customers. Worth the wait šŸ‘šŸ»

Incredibly fresh sushi. Staff obviously care about providing high quality food with fresh ingredients and it is all presented beautifully. Very reasonably priced as well. Cash only

Arguably the best value Japanese sushi restaurant in Melbourne, a little gem of a find in Carlton. Katso Don, Miso Soup, Sushi Rolls and Sashimi, very fresh and delicious, a small family run place with lovely owners, who are really friendly and great with kids. Free Japanese tea and a bargain family meal, great Asian cheap eats šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™

Itā€™s quite hard to write this review because I really liked this place. I was a regular customer until yesterday. I used to buy takeaway mostly, but yesterday, when my boyfriend and I decided to dining in here, we had the most horrible experience, I actually wanted to cry. We payed when we ordered the food and then went for some non-alcoholic beers to wait for our food, when we were drinking the beers, the chef came to me and started yelling at me because I had to payed for dollars for the BYO policy, I was aware what BYO means but I wasnā€™t aware that you have to pay for it, my partner and I donā€™t drink alcohol so we arenā€™t very familiar with this policy, so in my confusion I asked him why do we have to pay?, the chef answered very ironically ā€œwhy?, why?, you know why! Policy, government policy, 2 dollars per beer! You donā€™t understand?ā€ I was completely shocked because he was very upset, he makes us feel very uncomfortable, I looked at my boyfriend and he also was quite shocked. He told us ā€œeverybody knows that, but you!ā€ He assumed that we knew that we have to payed the four dollars. I felt really bad because he was taking to me very rudely, I thought he was joking at the beginning because you cannot be so rude to someone that havenā€™t done anything to you, specially when is someone that goes to buy food takeaway at least once a week . Iā€™m also a chef, I felt a huge lack of respect. I payed the four dollars with a bull of $5 and heā€™s wife, which is a very lovely person, refunded us the money for the food, and we left that place to never come back. Iā€™ll ended up going home and cooked this delicious meal (photo below) when what I actually wanted was to eat someone elseā€™s seasoning. He doesnā€™t know how to treat his customers. I hope he can read this post, and Iā€™ll recommend you Yukio (chefā€™a name) to seek help for your anger management issues or you could lose your business. I understand how much pressure we can have when weā€™re working but you never can treat a customer like that, you cannot assume that the customer knows everything, specially in a country where tourism is a very important part of our economy, also your customers pay your bills my friends, you always need customers, and returning customers arenā€™t easy to keep, hereā€™s a clear example of it. Sadly never coming back, cero start for you Yukio.

Quaint little place run by an old Japanese couple. Don't have s lot of choices to offer on the menu. But one of if not the best sushi bowl/poke bowl in town. Perfectly balanced flavour without the use werid sauces like every other places. Just plain yummy sushi bowl. Beware the owner is quite grumpy but the lady is super sweet.

Really nice sushi but remember to bring cash. Service was a bit average and rude until I paid the cash if you get what I mean. Pretty good prices considering and was really happy with the food.

DONT GO AND SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Loved their sushi until I see THIS from my sushi box! Anyone explain whatā€™s this??

DISGUSTING part with full of blood smell even visible BLOOD at the bottom side part!!!! Never seen this kind of sushi in any restaurant before!

Very DISAPPOINTED!

Super lovely chef! The prices are really reasonable for the food that you get. We ordered two do you like bowls and a mini box as well. He chucked in the fried salmon for free, which was super lovely of him. Taste wise it is delicious (especially for the price) but would prefer more sauce!

Authentic Japanese food. Generous portion and reasonably priced. The sashimi is so fresh too!

The chef was extremely rude, I came in just to have some food taken away, it was 5 pm before the busy dinner rush, I was there just casually wanting to take some food away so was in some home clothes, and lived near by, the owner (sushi chef) basically rushed me and gave such a bad attitude as if I canā€™t afford his food, racist and terrible.

Got this place recommended by a friend who absolutely loves it and has gone back quite a few times. It feels very authentic with just two Japanese people running it. We had the big sushi platter which was great. Also had two of the other dishes, but forgor exactly which ones. The food was super fresh. It's very bright inside so not great for a romantic dinner, but good for some quick, good, inexpensive sushi.

This plate makes me feel like I ate in Japan. Raw fish is so fresh and the taste of rice the same as an authentic one. I'm so appreciate. I will have dinner here every month.

Great food, great restaurant cooked and ran by the Japanese, authentic Japanese food. Reasonable prices. Paid for $24 for the sushi/sashimi platter and $10 for the udon! It is a hidden gem!

Sorry, but extremely overrated. I gave it 3 go's. Had a bento then a couple of don dishes. You may not have better Japanese options around Carlton but there are many, many better Japanese places in the CBD alone.

One word to describe this place: genuine! Been to this little restaurant many times and it has never disappoint me. The food here is authentic, delicious and reasonably priced. You can see the food being prepared in the open plan kitchen by the Japanese chefs who are super friendly and always smiling. Definitely one of my favourite go-to Japanese restaurants in Melbourne!

Youā€™ve GOTTA TRY the Una Don! Itā€™s basically an unagi fish don and it tasted so good! The fish was cooked just right and the sweet sauce covered the fish perfectly!! The oyako don was just alright in my opinion. The owners were really nice and friendly too!

Finally! some excellent cheap genuine Japanese food in Melbourne! They do simple Japanese home style cooking really well. Much better than some places that charge more for the same thing and serve something mediocre. Their menu has a small number of donburi / rice bowls, Japanese curries and made to order sushi, seaweed rolls and sashimi. The shop is simply put together and unpretentious, and the service is kind and efficient. I'm really glad I found this place. Definitely one to go back to for a simple, quiet, great quality informal meal with friends. Not exactly a date night place but that's ok.

For many years Sushi Ten served homey Japanese dishes at Port Phillip Arcade. Now that they've reopened in Carlton I wish them all the best in their future endeavours. Keep up the good work!! P.S. the mix don is a must-try.

Found this Classic Japanese restaurant while driving down to the city. It is a family business. It gives you the feel of tradition Japanese restaurant and the food was amazing. Although the choice is not that much to choose, they still provide some hot food such as Eel Don and Japanese fried noodles! They are super friendly!!

Small cafe along Rathdowne Street on Carlton North.
Excellent value for money, the quality if exceptional.
Everything made fresh to order in front of your eyes. Limited but sufficient menu!
Exceptional sushi platters - fresh fish, beautifully presented.
The Katsu Curry was amazing too, nice thick curry!

The BEST Japanese food in Melbourne! Such amazing value for what you get. Presentation is next to none. You may wait for your food but thereā€™s a reason for that & they always have hot tea sat at your table... a super pleasant waiting experience. Such a kind, happy, talented family running the restaurant, we go every week šŸ˜ ps. The Mixed Don..... 11/10 šŸ¤¤

Used to be a regular when they were at Port Philip Arcade but stopped going after office relocated. Have missed it since. Sushi Ten food still taste awesome - salmon Don is my favourite

I always come here when they were at Port Phillip arcade. And after few months waiting finally they have reopened.

Not much change and the salmon don is one of the best that I have tried so far. Definitely must try. The service by the Japanese couple also never disappoints. It's one of my favourite Japanese restaurants and I will definitely keep coming back.

Sushi Ten is my newly opened and now regular sneaky takeaway spot just down the road from my Home, and I am so here to announce that I will love this place forever.
Lowkey, great value, family restaurant run with an abundance of smiles and classical Japanese politeness.

As a bonus, they were really accommodating with me bringing my own plastic containers for takeaway!

Canā€™t wait to try everything on that menu! :ā€™)

I visited Sushi Ten for dinner on a weeknight and ordered the Unagi Don and a serve of sashimi. Service was pretty slow even though the place wasn't very busy. I must say that the Unagi Don was good value for money and was perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, the sashimi was not very good. The tuna wasn't very pleasant and the texture was a little mushy. The salmon was fresh and delicious though.

Finally itā€™s open now! Waiting them for several months to relocate;)) Always so satisfied to have meal here!! The owners are very welcoming everyone, feel like home!

I used to go to Sushi Ten all the time when it was in Port Phillip Arcade. Then it closed and I was sad. Now it's open and I'm happy again! Mixed Don for the win!

When it was in port phillip arcade they used to make this fried piece of salmon offcut with a bone running through it. It was crazy delicious. Hope they bring this back. Also it would be cool if they made okonomiyaki.
