Review Bridie O'reilly's - Melbourne

GossipGirl XOXO
$14/16 Aperol without orange, which I cannot say it’s good! But the environment is good.
Lisa
Great service and atmosphere. My partner was stoked that they had the footy on the big screen. Our food and drinks were great. Just watch your step near the bar, there is some uneven and damaged sections.
Lawrence Sanchez
Great atmosphere, fantastic lunch and a great day on St Patrick's Day. Bookings is essential.

I was having a beer on my birthday with my friends when the manager decided to come and take my beer off me and told us we had to leave. We did nothing wrong and the staff are beyond rude and not worth your time worst pub in Melbourne. I would recommend going anywhere but here.
Gem K
Booked ahead and our table ended up being beside the open fire which was amazing because it was so cold out, steak and Guinness pie was great, huge portion as well, staff were super friendly

Great pub to watch live sports at. Large outdoor beer garden and good specials. Definitely will be back

Top Irish Pub in middle of Chapel St. Not expensive. Good range of beer & bar food . Casual atmosphere with friendly staff. Sit out front in good weather & watch the passing parade or keep warm inside. Well recommended for a break after checking out all the interesting shops of Chapel St.& surrounds.
Melbournelops
Love a good Irish pub. Relaxed atmosphere, good pub food and a great outside area.

The husbands favourite watering hole, weeknight dinner spot, sports watching go-to, friends meeting place… he would move in if he could. The great thing about Bridies is you’re always guaranteed good food, drinks specials, friendly staff, a bit of sport, a lot of music. Added bonus - its good for summer or winter. They have a lovely outside area for warmer days and lots of space inside to stay warm in winter.

Most disgusting behaviour I've ever seen in my life from the staff. This place is awful, the staff is outrageous, please don't ever EVER go there, or you will probably be abused by their disgusting barmen and treated like a piece of shit.
Cormac
Came here to watch the ufc and have some food. 15$ jugs of any beer are great value. Ordered the roast beef, it was such a let down. The beef itself was so tough, like an old boot, some of the veggies were rock hard and the ones that were soft were swimming in oil, how hard is it to get a roast right?

We called into Birdies ahead of dinner around the corner. It was early evening but it still surprised me how empty the whole place was when compared to the last few times I’d been here (albeit they were for some Rugby watching). We ordered a Happy our Gin& Tonic each (Gordon’s gin) and people watched a little. The venue looks quite presentable in the daylight hours and has some great food and drink specials.

This was the place we visited on my first day in Melbourne, when the cold took me by absolutely shock .. the beef and Guinness pie was just what I needed . It was divine ! Must have

Coming back to Bridie O’Reilly’s brings back many fond memories from 2011! There is no better way to watch cricket (other than the box seat in the stadium) than to watch it on the big screen at Bridie O’Reilly’s. The staff are super friendly too - soda water on the house to quench your summer thirst.

A cosy venue to have a beer at Happy Hour rates. I've walked past this place so many times and never stopped. So glad I was able to stop for a beer on this occassion.

Been here many times. Love the outdoor courtyard seating. Great for people watching. They serve Guiness stouts. Yummy 😋 cos it is on draught. Fresh stouts... food is average. Order at the bar, collect drinks at the bar. Food will be sent to your table.

Really love this place, especially when the warm weather kicks in. The atmosphere is great, the staff are really friendly, and the outdoor area at the front is great to get a little tan whilst sinking beers and people watching in the sun. Food has been great every time I've been. Highly recommend if you're strolling through the area on a nice summers day - you'll be looked after without being hassled every 5 minutes. The only piece of negative would be that the pricing for food is a liiiiiittle steep, however it didn't bother us too much! Will be back ☺️

The roast lamb was tender and not dry like other pubs. The portion size was very generous. The roast lamb was a dinner special that came with a drink. The Guinness pie was very hearty with chunks of beef and carrots - perfect for a winter’s day. Overall, a nice place for a good feed.

Went for a pre dinner drink last night. They had a reasonable selection of beers. I had a pint of white rabbit dark ale which was perfect!

The pub has booths, a BIG bar, an cool outdoor area, too cool in winter for me haha

It wasn't cheap for a pint but the service was really friendly which helps. It's an easy place to find which is good. I'd go back but ideally I'd prefer to go to a little bar.

With - Feeds With Gusto

Standard Irish pub, we were there for pre dinner drinks and whilst there was a crowd it wasn't packed or rowdy (don't know if that will remain the same for the later in the evening). Comfy booths along one side of the pub which we were seated in and there is a nice front beer garden which had heating and did look quite cosy. Sports enthusiasts were there too as they had the footy showing on screens. Great wine list, just not a fan of the white line on the glass lol but hey we are in a pub!
Kimberley Leggett
Typical Irish pub with a sports bar aesthetic on the inside and a big beer garden out the front (perfect for people watching and looking at the big screen). I have not eaten here yet but the Guinness on tap ain't half bad.
Elonie
Casual typical Irish pub with sports playing on the TVs. The beef and Guinness pie was tasty and great with only pastry on the top. The "Crispy pork belly" was not crispy unfortunately.
Tomlovestoeat
I've never eaten here but generally come for football, afl etc etc can't be knocked for their large and abundant screens which makes it pretty easy to get a view of your team! Pints of Guinness aren't bad either and the staff are friendly enough.

Bridie O'Reily's is a great spot for late night drinks and dancing. We only had drinks here on Saturday night. The pub was busy with people ordering drinks, they either sat outside, inside near the pub watching sport on the TV's or upstairs dancing. The drink prices were standard, they had a large variety of spirits and beers on tap, however the best thing about the pub is the live music upstairs it was fabulous. We found the staff friendly and security guards at every levels with 3 at the door.

Not many recent reviews at this pub, which is truly surprising. Decent service here yesterday, although the wait for food was fairly lengthy (probably since it was Boxing Day with limited staff). Speaking of which, do be mindful that this venue charges 10% extra on a public holiday, although this is commonplace along Chapel Street.

Fortunately, the wait was certainly worth it, and the size of the meals were enormous. I personally enjoyed the "All Day Breakfast", which consisted of generous servings of eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomato and Black Pudding (probably the best I've ever tasted). Other members of the group ordered the Vegetable Risotto (which looked amazing), the sliders, and the Beef and Guinness Pie. Food quality was great, with no complaints, and all drinks were served by bar staff quickly and perfectly.

This was a really good visit and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here - the only downfalls were the lengthy wait for food service and the general prices of the meals (still a bit pricey, even without the 10% public holiday surcharge).

Can't really complain, service was fast and friendly. Food was fresh... The beer is a tad pricey though... But that's chapel street all round.
Was craving nachos, so I had them.... They hit the spot superbly!

As far as Irish pubs go, this is an institution. Friendliest bunch of service staff, and very much above par food wise, as far as pubs as concerned. My staple venue to watch UFC and Futbol events.
La Ola Es Mia Cocina.
Shocking food and venue to even attempt to even have food here. I beg you try somewhere else unless they start improving with the Quilty of cooks and staff in the venue. They need Gordon Ramsey to clean this place up to serve decent food. But being that management is terrible they will continue to sink the business into the gutter.

Me and my friends come every Wednesday for the trivia, it's always a great atmosphere, the staff are friendly and really helpful. I've tried a fair bit of the menu and never had any problems , personal favioute include the chicken breast and beef & Guinness pie . They also have a $12 pizza and drink deal. A few Saturdays ago we came in for my sisters birthday enjoyed sitting in the beer garden then went up stairs to listen to the band. In general a great all rounder pub on chapel , would always recommend .

Unfortunately, this place has gone down hill. The meals take forever to arrive, each time I've been this has been the case. Over an hour is unacceptable. Not to mention the extremely hostile environment of drunk people staring at other diners to intimidate. This place is bad juju, unless you wanna bring a bunch of friends and get in a punch on, then I'd suggest avoiding at all costs. I've seen people get glassed here twice, and as amusing as that is, it's not acceptable when I'm trying to enjoy dinner. Rock on Bridie's.
Brungiel
Places like this hanging around are what make Chapel St seem like it's dying. It's a glorified pub, with only very standard selection of drinks and average bar food and usually boring cover bands... Not for me.
Brian Trumble
Lost my sunglasses. Told by patrons that they were handed to bar staff. Bar staff totally indifferent. Did the bar staff steal my glasses? Maybe. But it is an establishment that does not care for their patrons. Police report tomorrow.
Andrew
I know from past experience that Bridie’s does fairly honest pub grub and they also have quite a few screens that you can watch the game on. We got there early and grabbed what we thought was a good spot to watch the game. Unfortunately, even though one of the waitresses had told us “of course they’ll turn the sound on for the game”, there was to be no sound for the game. When I enquired politely for the third time regarding the lack

By 11.30 I’ve had my three pints and decide its time to go. The party will be raging till the wee hours but unfortunately gotta get to work the next day.

Rude.. This is the second time I've come in during the afternoon mid week.
The bar staff look and talk to you like your a piece of crap.
Being Irish myself feels like a total letdown and embarrassing.
Probably good for Friday and Saturday nights.
Could do with better service or happier staff.
It could be something really good if they just added a bit of 'hospitality' to the game.
Misskatiejeffries
Sunday lunch fail. Nothing worse than craving a Sunday roast to remind you of home and being served a plate of total let down.
The roast lamb was over cooked, they served roast new potatoes (not proper roasties- if you're from the uk you will understand the significance of this!), the gravy was seriously gloupy and almost gelatinous resembling that of dodgy Chinese food, and they didn't have mint sauce- a crime against roast lamb.

On the flip side the staff were cool, made an effort to be good at what they do and made us both laugh.
Shannacunningham25
Worst experience. Terrible staff,
Awful customer service
Waited an hour for our food to discover they put our order through wrong, no apology, in fact we were accused of ordering the wrong thing! Pretty sure we didn't order the lamb wrap being allergic to lamb!
No apology, no management, left hungry and angry and that's not even getting into the rest of the disgraceful service
Josh.d.hallett
Friday night. Rude management. We will never be back. Was a pity as was a good meal
OriginalTech
Great location. Pub food with a good drinks menu. The service was 90%
I would definitely go there again to get drunk.

Not sure about Saturday nights as it gets a bit hectic but love a few pints during the week, sick live music and good Guinness. Beef and Guinness pie is where it's at
Kharkovkid
Beaitufl and unique pub. Very big choice of great beer. Spacious, they've got a nice corner for live music. I encountered friendly staff and good customer service (it was Sunday night, not very busy). I noticed people complained about beers being expensive. $10-12$ expensive? wow, I am very surprised because I am happy to find a pint of beer in any average/decent pub/bar for that much money anywhere in the CBD or even suburbs. Enjoy the time at Bridie :)
Jack Foodie
This is a well laid out place, especially the beer garden. Although the beer is very expensive and tastes like they don't clean the beer lines
Thefrankreport
Protip. Blaring bogan music outside is not the way to attract customers to your venue inside our out. If I don't like yr music, think I'm coming in? And if it wasn't playing outside, I could sit there.

Think about it.
Gee1
Not a bad pub but they wedge the front doors wide open and all the cigarette smoke blows in. It absolutely stinks. Guiness at $10 a pint is a bit steep
Isidora
Delicious!. Great atmosphere and the food was delicious, although a little pricey, you get large portions so it was worth it in the end.
Hadele
Good food and place but meals that arent deals are WAY too expensive.
Omirl
Bar person didn't know a basic cocktail so I asked for a gin and tonic and was told the tonic machine was broken so would I be okay with franklin sparkling water, I said yes and then they charged me $14 for a a gin and tonic that didn't contain tonic and which you could barely taste the gin in. Music was too loud too. Not happy.

I was treated very unfairly here after being an honest patron for the good part of 2 hours. Kicked out by the security and refused entry to the restroom facilities as "it was too late". Mind you this was at 12:45, a good 15 minutes before closing. Very disappointed.

Well frankster_25, the details you're unsure of, were a bloke throwing punches at security when being asked to leave, then his table of friends attempting to jump them. Having the aggressive group out without staff and patron injury, despite being outnumbered, is 'helping the situation' in the majority of unbiased opinions.

Anyone with over a below average sense of perception would have seen security leave the premises to stop the bloke man-handling/beating on his missus in public. Logic would dictate that yelling for him to "leave her alone and move along because Police are on their way" is a reasonable course of action. Alternatively, they could have done nothing and allow him to (rightfully, in my opinion) be attacked by a group of on-lookers that don't like seeing a women get man-handled because she's pissed off at her bloke fighting security.

As far as my understanding goes, urbanspoon is a restaurant review tool, yet the kitchen at Bridie O'Reillys had been closed for hours.

So, frankster_25, this first post of yours is clearly not your attempt to build a credible opinion in the urbanspoon community, but perhaps retelling your experience with a little accuracy, and doing so on the appropriate medium, would help you get a little closer to achieving what-ever your goal is.

If you were 'being having only had 2-3 pints' at the time of writing this ridiculous review, then one may argue that perhaps some people are better off stopping at one.

On a final note, to honour the purpose of urban-spoon, as a frequent customer of the Bridie O'Reilly's kitchen, the food far exceeds pub-quality.
Frankster_25
Very aggressive bouncers. Was in Bridie O'Reilly's in South Yarra for no more than 5 minutes when the bouncers got into a fight with some patrons, not sure of all the details but the bouncers certainly weren't helping the situation, after the patrons left the bouncers followed down the street clearly looking for a fight.

Later on I got thrown out for 'showing signs of intoxication' despite being having only had 2-3 pints and being clearly sober, when I quizzed them further one of the bouncers got in my face and said 'Shut the f*ck up'.

Clearly the bouncers here are very bad at their job and just looking for a fight with anyone. Stay away!

Good "Lazy Sunday Arvo" kind of venue .... Was thankful it served food at 4pm on a Sunday arvo! Interior decor is as one would expect of an "Irish-Pub". It's warm. It's homely. It's all round friendly. Lively Irish tunes by an acoustic duo adds to the atmosphere. This one is larger than others in the chain in and around Melbourne. One surprising aspect : A very eclectic menu! And the Wagyu-Beef Sliders (4 X mini burgers) were simply delicious ... would come back just for these little delights alone!

Happy drinker. I walk in and first thing I see is white rabbit dark ale staring back at me, such a good drop, quick glance around and the rest of my favourites are there too, new watering hole found...well played bridies

Atmospheric local pub.... Great spot for a bit of dinner and a few pints. Had the beef and Guinness pie, highly recommend it. Gets a bit rowdy on the weekend which is not my style but very chilled out during the week when I was there. Gorgeous converted church building too.
Leana Stone
Awesome pub. Bridies is an awesome place to relax through the week n party on the weekend. Live music is awesome and so are the staff.
Luke
Not a fan. Average beers on tap, very average wines by the glass, food is mediocre at best...service hit n miss, venue is behind the times. This 'Irish' pub reminds me of the boring pubs we'd go to in Brisbane 8 years ago!
Natalie
Very disappointed!. $20 for a 'Monster Sunday Roast' that was anything but monster. Very small serving, ran out of lamb so 1/2 the group was shunted with chicken, vegetables almost raw and solid, meat was overlooked. Overall, never going back!
Mitch Cameron
The staff are more interested in flirting with each other than offering decent service.
Mark T
Probably wouldn't go back for a meal. Good drinks menu, but it's a pub, so that was expected. Nice outer atmosphere is quite contrast to inside, which seems a bit dead and worn out. Meals were not really great...Angus burger tasted odd - questionable meat quality. Not really that healthy either. For the price, the meals were not up to it. Go for a drink outside, but look elsewhere for a quality meal.
Wellfedboy
Top class pub grub!! Good beer, good service

The truth comes out when the drink goes in. Earlier this evening, I found myself enjoying a few drinks with some mates at Bridie O'Reilly's in Chapel Street.

Reluctantly, I agreed to order something to eat at this Irish theme 'pub' rather than re-locate to a more appropriate 'restaurant' in the area. Whilst I certainly didn't have high expectations, the Angus beef burger I ordered was simply terrible and drier than a dead dingos donger.

I struggle to comprehend how they can justify charging $17.90 for such a terrible burger, when an equivalent burger can be found at Hungry Jacks at less than a third of the price.

Similarly, for a mere $4 more, I could have been sitting at the bar at Rockpool eating a David Blackmore's Full Blood Wagyu Hamburger with Bacon, Gruyere Cheese and Zuni Pickle.

Next time, I'll be sure to stick to the beverages.....to be sure.
