Review Nick's Spaghetti Bar - Melbourne

OMG I had the best carbonara I have ever had today! It was literally perfection!! I can see myself coming here on a regular basis. Atmosphere is wonderful and all the staff are amazing. Which can only be a reflection of the owners!!

Best Italian restaurant in Melbourne made me feel I was back in Florence. The management and staff are world class.

This is one of those times zomato would fail you. 3.5 for a place this good is a joke.

One of the most romantic restaurants I have ever been. This is OG Italian the chefs are your classic ma and pa chefs. Just phenomenol experience.

What really matters is the food. My mouth is watering 6 hours after my feed. The beef ragu gnochi was the special. 100 percent sure everything was homemade.
The advacado chicken fettuccine was to die for. I tried my mates.

Been gradis a couple of times. Never again. That place is a joke compared to nicks spaghetti bar.

If you haven't been you really are missing out.

The interior and decor is definitely a great thing about this place ! Would bring a date here for the ambience. Carbonara was bland and the tiramisu was very small for $8.50 ! The value for money isn't there, it's not like it was the best tasting meal I've had.

It's an average place, not amazing and for the price it should be a little bit better. Staff is polite and welcoming, lovely environment, food is okay.

Update: I ordered the lasagna too and it was so awful , it was basically sauce covered lasagna sheets with bits and pieces of hard boiled egg ? It was worse than the microwave meals you could buy at Coles. Wish I could get a refund.

Well where to start hmmmmmm
Cosy small very tight seating if u r a tall guy .
I found the staff extremely rude. Arrogant . But thinking its all a show . Being able to see thru the kitchen was impressive to me shows they have nothing to hide .I know u r thinking a bad review but the spaghetti dish I ate was out of this world the love of foods showed up thru the food. good on price . the addenda was was perfection the tastes of cheeses the cracked pepper everything was so good .
So if u want a top quality pasta in cbd .I would highly recommended to try nicks on Lonsdale St ..just don't talk to the waiter the old tall one or u will hear his arrogant side. Funny anyone else who enters would think that he is french. ..
So my review
Staff 3
Quality 5
Service 4
Taste 8
Would I go again I would if they were less arrogant

Want to feel like you're at Nonna's? Then step right in - up the beautifully worn bluestone step that must have seen thousands of hungry folk head in for comfort food.
The service is friendly and efficient - I love watching the owner walk around smiling and greeting patrons - so genuinely thrilled to see people enjoying his hospitality.
The pasta is good - but I've taken to asking for a small serve as I can't eat a full main (I'm not a massive eater). If the gnocchi ragu is on offer (it's a special) - grab it! Rich thick tomato based sauce and oxtail, otherwise I'm a big fan of good old fashioned bolognaise or lasagne. I'm not a big fan of the risotto.
Oh and if you're having coffee (which is worth stopping in for on its own) you'll be treated to some little sugar coated homemade donuts - the perfect pick me up!!
Don't come here for silver service - come in when you want a good serve of comfort!!

Details: Such a cute place my boss took me to today!! The interior was 100% my favourite part. Can't wait to go back and try the lasagna when I'm more hungry but the Penne tomato pasta was very tasty. I genuinely rate places higher when they put bread and butter on your table as soon as you arrive - that European vibe! ♡

Staff: were very nice to my boss who comes regularly... can't complain for myself.... weren't that happy when I changed my meal but that's expected 😇

The salad bar is a great idea. The whole Italian vibe of the place is top notch
The Trough
In the spirit of Hollywood blockbusters such as Superman v Batman, or maybe Alien v Predator, the Trough v Good Food Swine is in prospect for those who follow our Zomato musings. This because the Trough lunched today with Swine and some other associates at the excellent trattoria style Nick's spaghetti bar.

However it is a bit misleading to hint at a titanic struggle. In truth the Trough and all his lunch companions were very happy with their Nick's experience. The Trough recommends consulting the Swine's posting for his take. Here is mine.

Nick's is on Lonsdale Street very close to the various barrister Chambers and courts on Lonsdale and William Street so it is a real legal hangout. Today was no exception, with a possible sighting of an infamous gangster lawyer a few tables away adding a frisson to lunch.

Fresh crusty bread rolls at each table place greeted us on arrival. A friendly and knowledgeable waiter guided us through the specials list then returned for our orders, which delivered fast.

We did not indulge in the extensive array of antipasto treats laid out buffet style but went straight for the pasta dishes. Fettucine carbonara - perfetto! Spaghetti with meat balls -belissimo! Fettucine pescatore -very good. The Trough's only regret about the spaghetti with meatballs was he missed out on having the carbonara (but if he had, he would have missed out on those meatballs which would have been just as bad).

The only note of disagreement came from the associate who had the pescatore. He thought it was very good bur not quite as good as one he had recently at another venue. Flavour was a little lacking, perhaps some of the seafood was not completely fresh. No matter. The Trough was very happy in the way only a great trattoria pasta can make you happy.

As a finale, we allowed our waiter to talk us into sharing some tiramisu. Sponge light as a feather, saturated in a coffee liqueur with cream on top. Nick's was like Pavarotti on song. Bravo! Encore!

The Swine
Yes the Swine knows this is a Spaghetti Bar but surprisingly this Italian restaurant doesnt appear to do Pizza. This disappointed me. None the less our small group of 4 had a great lunch at Nicks. Staff were very friendly and recommended the Lasagne. It was authentic and tasted very good. Ok my gripe is that the serving could have been bigger or thicker for 20 dollars plus. Beers ranged from Peronis to Crownies. We didnt try but the antipasto looked fantastic. The Swine will be coming back!! Thank you Sinior Nick i loves you.

Great food and excellent service.. We had a lovely lunch at Nick's last Friday. Everyone there seemed to be enjoying their food. Really good value and the service was just incredible. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Would recommend Nick's to anyone wanting good Italian food at a fair price.
Found the venue very cosy and old worldy Italian style as well.

Great food, quick to get you out though. The food was great, authentic and the atmosphere was just lovely. Felt like I was at Nonna's! Staff were also quite accommodating for our work group booking for lunch. Not too impressed to receive the bill after only half an hour, while 2 of us were still eating and another group waiting close by for our table. There were plenty of other tables available!

Possibly the best home made Italian food in Melbourne. Great hospitality and friendly environment. Love it!

Pasta. I was there for lunch and had the Chicken and Avocado special.. However, two things missing the Chicken and Avocado. All it dish was pasta (and not fresh pasta) and nothing else and it cost $ 22.50. I could have made the same thing a lot cheap with more chicken & avocado in it.. I would not recommend this place or visit again. We have previous visited here a few years ago (for a few meals), however, there definely has had a major change and the standards of meals have gone down.

Sadly disappointing. The old Nicks was good but this incarnation is simply mung. The pasta is disgustingly oily and the sauces are extremely poor quality. I've tried it 3 times now and it was terrible on each occasion. My carbonara was virtually scrambled eggs on pasta.

What an institution!” If y.... What an institution!”
If you are ever looking for the quintessential home style Italian experience when you are next in Melbourne.......do yourself a huge favor and go to Nick's Spaghetti Bar.

This place is an institution in Melbourne and the client following is as committed and passionate as the owner and his Italian family that works there.

A place does not have to be big white plates and lace table cloths to be outstanding, but absolutely fantastic pasta and the most welcoming of environments and genuinely homely Italian food and service.

Be sure to have the pasta daily special and I promise you, once you have been, you will be almost sure to become an ongoing regular.

Just like home-made! Really.... Just like home-made!
Really love coming to Nick's....it feels like I have escaped the hustle and bustle of Melbourne, and entered an authentic Italian trattoria. The pasta is always top notch, reminscent of the home made pasta I used to have as a child. The salad bar/buffet is one of my favourite in Melbourne. Authentic italian flavours, freshly made....calamari, antipasto, fish, cheeses, divine salads...the list goes on. Very much recommended, not that they need the publicity as they are quite busy, but never had an issue getting a table!

I felt like being home. Marvellous food (pasta alfredo is my favourite) and excellent service. Price too honest with the quality of food provided!
