Review Metro Baguette - Melbourne

Vanessa Flowers
I go here because they make some of the best coffees in Flinders Street station, also it's very clean and the food is well presented. I stopped to get a coffee and some fruit plus a yoget on my way to the next train. The service was fast and the fruit was nice and fresh. Importantly I got my next train. Thank you team!

My non sour dough baguette turned sour after the very poor service provided. Popped in around 08 30 on the 1st of November for a quick bite. I was served after the 3 ladies behind the counter had finished very obviously laughing at another customer for some reason, at what seemed to be a great inconvenience. *Not to be confused with Baguette in Flinders Street station.

I dont expect much from a train station kiosk, but it would be nice if the food was at least fresh. Not like the week old piece of rubber I purchases this morning that was supposedly a quiche. It's so solid I can barely get my teeth into it.

Horrid absolutely Horrid. The foreign guy serving me answers his phone haslfway through the transaction. Now I've been a regular customer for the better part of a year. The woman who serves me has always made me feel welcome and appreciated. But this guy for the better part of a year never has. Now as a hospitality worker myself. I like to think I have a little more understanding than many. However to answer your phone in service. That a massive NO NO!

The range of baguettes and Panini's is fantastic and nothing over $5. Fresh or toasted to your liking. The sweets and sandwhiches are also fresh and if they don't have the sandwhich you want ready to go, they happily make it for you. The coffees are good too, and have a loyalty program. Well worth the visit!

Disgusting behaviour ! I went in and asked the girl behind the counter what was in a particular bagget and so she explained.... I then said a light hearted joke about the bagget to which she replies “was that supposed to be funny?” I was a bit shocked by her attitude and then asked to recap on what was in there...? She said she’s not going to repeat her self.....such a stunking attitude to have so I walked out. If you are the manager or the owner reading this then I’m happy to hear what your reply would be to this terrible level of customer service behaviour....

Delicious baguette rolls. A variety of fillings. All very well priced. Really really good place to stop to grab lunch, especially if you don't have time to sit down and eat.

Terrible service. When they messed up my order the rude lady who served me told me I just needed to be patient. Don't give them your money. The convenience in Flinders is definitely not worth it if you worth your time

When I approached Metro Baguette, located right by the entrance to fitness first gym I saw a sign advertising $5 baguettes. Being around 2:30 pm I assumed they were selling off the last of the baguettes at that price to clear their stock before closing.... um no that is actually their all day every day price. What a great little shop... I had a feta, capsicum egg baguette which was toasted for me and it was deliciously cheesy with a slight saltiness from feta. The sweet treats looked good also. Great to know that in an area of Melbourne so devoid of anything remotely healthy that there is this little gem

Great range of baguettes for the standard price of $5. Good for lunch or when feeling peckish. I will be back no doubt.

I chose to get it fresh but there's also an option to get it toasted.

I was looking for a healthy option for something to eat close to Flinders St station. The options were mainly greasy until I saw this place.

Cool, I can get a baguette. Woo hoo hahaha

The prices were great, all $5 each regardless of the filling. Yay!!

I ordered the Norwegian salmon w salad. The baguette tasted like it had been reheated, or partly cooked like the ones you buy from a supermarket but hey, they were fresh!

The salad was really good and the salmon, just as good. Happy days lol

This was a great alternative to the greasy options and handy for a quick t/a on the go.

And this is my 500th review... wow thank you to everyone for reading my reviews and for your support 😊

Had them when I was around the station and it was great! With such a cheap price, you'll be surprised on the quality and the size of the baguette. The staffs are also really nice - I had a hard time choosing which one to get and they helped me through it hahaha

Very rare that you find a sandwich for $5, let alone a egg, bacon, chives and cracked pepper baguette. I had mine cold and it was still delicious great value for money.

Got the spinach and egg baguette minutes before closing! The baguette only cost $4! Super worth it! Wasn’t filling for me, but for $4 it was amazing!!
Sylvia's POV
Great for grabbing tasty snack-sized baguettes with fresh fillings. Hot chocolates are quite good also. If you come around 30 mins before closing time the baguettes will be discounted slightly.

Who loves a cheap meal? This place sells good varieties of cheap baguettes for $5. Picked up the chicken avocado bacon baguette for a quick lunch. Well seasoned, tasty and good size portion. Happy tummy, happy wallet!

Very cheap baguettes with a large range of other food and drinks. Service was okay - prompt and polite. Turkey, cranberry and Swiss baguette was nice to grab for a quick lunch.

I visit here quite often as i attend uni in the area. Staff were very friendly the first few times I went now I barely get greeted. Watery hot chocolates. Wouldn't go back- there a plenty of other cafes around that give better service.

I’ve been coming here on and off for coffee since they first opened around 2013, depending on how many punches I’ve racked up on the loyalty card (and whether I’ve lost it or not!). The team working the cafe are still the same and are very friendly people. The coffee is decent, and I also like the berry yoghurt which is thick and creamy. I used to get the baguettes when they were $5.00 but it has risen to $6.00. Now it's just my other go-to for coffee, whichever one has a shorter queue.

Edit: 18.7.16
All baguettes are back to $5.

I liked the small trendy seating area, coming from Perth the $5 baguettes felt super cheap. Simple preparation and quite filling, great option for an inexpensive meal.

Everyone's talking about the food and the service but seriously, they make some really good coffee their, I believe they roast the beans themselves and it's by far one of my favourite coffee stands that I've been to in Melbourne. I used to study in Elizabeth street last year and I'd always grab a coffee and a toasted croissant in the mornings, can't go wrong with that. I don't understand what people are talking about with the service, I found them quite nice and fast service, especially when I went there.

Really enjoyed the variety of European sandwiches. The server was welcoming and food was quick to serve. I ordered a prosciutto pizza with olives, price $5. It was light and delicious, the dough was soft because of the thick base. For a cheap snack definitely recommended.

This cafe was in my building while I was studying.
Food was cheap and close-by, we only got 20 mins for lunch so it was perfect on the days I didnt bring food with me.
I really liked the soups during winter- $4.50 with a baguette, great value, nice staff.

Metro Baguette is a baguette place in the heart of the city. Here they have $5 baguettes and I had been wanting to go here for some time. They are only open during the daytime and not at night when I go to the gym. They also have yoghurts and museli and sweets. They also have salads for the salad freaks.
Aussie Nawaab
Its an average joint that serves up ordinary baguettes. Ive tried a few vego and egg based baguettes here a few times. For that price I expected a lot more flavor and quality but it just seems that its prime location and the variety of combinations dictates the price. If you're in the CBD with some time at your disposal then I'd rather go exploring the laneways for cheaper and tastier baguette options.

However, if you're in a hurry and looking for a quick and easy option then its ok to grab a quick bite here. Nevertheless, be warned - that this isn't the place if you're after some good value for money.

Service is average as well as the baguettes which are overpriced. If they were as tasty as they looked I wouldn't complain much about price but after eating this my tummy didn't agree with me for the rest of the day. What a shame :(

Very rude staff. Need to significantly improve customer service skills. They attract customers due to location and good food but reluctant to return because the staff are rude.

Rude staff & bad service. Incredibly slow service and the staff are extremely rude. This cafe is in the building that I go to twice a week. I ordered a bottle of water and instead of turning around, grabbing it out of the fridge and passing it to me, The staff member held on to my eftpos card and continued to serve three other people before handing it to me. And that is not a one time thing. On another occasion I was entitled to a free coffee based on their loyalty card, she stamped it, I waited, and then asked where my coffee was and she refused to give it to me because I didn't say I actually wanted the coffee, so I then asked if I could have it and she said she can't give it to me because I can't have another stamp. I did not want another stamp I wanted the coffee that she just stamped 1 minute prior, she refused until another staff member told her to give it to me because I was not going to let her get away with that sort of rudeness, she then continued to argue with me while I was standing there silently. I have heard numerous other bad stories from people I study with about the rude staff at the cafe. I refuse to buy anything from there now.

Rude staff!. The food there is ok, but the staff are rude! Huffy and act like they're doing you a huge favour by serving you. Ordered a croissant and she forgot to give it to me, ignoring me and serving other customers until she finally turned to me and didn't say anything until I had to ask again for the croissant.
Jazzy
Appalling customer service!. Wasn't greeted with a hello or smile just "what do you want". I asked if there were any plain croissants left and was answered with a blunt "no" with no alternatives offered. Very bad customer service.

Tried to charge me 50 cents for tap water!

Good and cheap baguettes. Yesterday morning I went to metro baguette with some friends. We ordered two scramble eggs and bacon baguettes and chicken avocado. The flavor was pretty good , soft and fresh. In addition, I like the service. It was quick and the ladies were nice and friendly. Price is perfect $5.

Definitely I recommend that place and will back to try more baguettes.
:):)

Banh mi are better. I was headed for an arvo shift on the neurology ward of a hospital that doesn't have a good cafe, so I popped in here for a takeaway sanger so I wouldn't be tempted to steal the patients' dinners. A lot of them are mentally muddled so they wouldn't notice, but I'm not that kind of a monster. The zeitgeist at Metro Baguette is a range of pre-made baguette sandwiches all for $5. Service is quick if you're in a hurry -- the counter girl just has to grab one and bag it. That's OK if you need to catch a train and can't wait.

Trouble is, these sandwiches didn't have much flavour. I had a tandoori chicken one, and the taste was way too mild. Even the Indian-seasoned mayonnaise used to moisten it was bland. There were fresh cilantro leaves, but also no flavour to them. The cucumber slices on it were starting to go translucent, the way they do when they've been cut and sitting on a sandwich for hours. At least the baguette was fresh and soft. I would have rather had a Vietnamese banh mi, with its crunchy baguette and more vibrant meats/slaw/dressings. And banh mi's are usually cheaper. That's what I'll go for next time I'm in that situation.
