Review Momoco Sushi - Melbourne

Wally Chiang
Okay place for lunch/dinner. Can’t say it’s a great Japanese restaurant but it’s okay. The salad isn’t bad. Service was okay but food didn’t come out very fast. Their sushi has a weird ‘rice wine’ taste which should have been rice vinegar. Makes you wonder if the sushi chef put in the right ingredients.

ordered sashimi and each slice was so thin or the size of my thumb... totally overprice. no wonder not much pple. forgot to take photo of it. the salad had way too much mayonnaise although the paper thin salmon tasted fresh and the soft shelled crab was generous portion.

Not the best Momoco branch. The one in Burgundy St, Heidelberg is definitely better. Oh and I found Rubber band in my food!

The food is always good and service fast. I was allowed my dog in a pram outside so that was a massive bonus. Staff are friendly so if you want a lunch where you won't be interrupted, this is great. As far as people goes, there's always customers but not crowded.

Last time we order from here. Ordered some food takeaway for the family cos it used to be the most decent priced good Japanese in the area. Not anymore. Sister in-laws soy sauce had a fly in it. Disgusting. 🤢 Rice was either not washed properly or had been cooked hours ago and possibly reheated while also being drowned in teriyaki sauce. Based on the recent reviews of food poisoning, rubber bands and cling wrap in food, handling cash and food with same gloves with staff shrugging it off and not taking responsibility for it, it’s very clear they don’t care about food quality anymore. This place should be ashamed to call themselves a Japanese restaurant. A Japanese restaurant would not be caught dead with these sorts of poor quality food quality and safety, they would also apologise profusely for anything that was not up to standard. Stay far away from this place, pay extra and get something of quality.

Okay service, terrible salads. A plate of coleslaw with 4 pieces of salmon on top.

You can tell which of the other reviewers was jealous of the food here. This place offers fairly traditional Japanese fare at a great price and excellent quality. We've been here at least once a month for the past year or so and only once had an issue, and that was with an inattentive waiter (never saw her again afterwards though). Great to drop in for a quick meal, and the value of the Bento boxes is fantastic.

Whilst some meals have been better than others, like any restaurant we have not had a bad meal. Service is good by attentive staff. Patronage varies from a couple of customers to full. Atmosphere is good due to set up of tables. We also frequent the Heidelberg restaurant, both eat in and take away. This restaurant has dark , heavy doors and no windows looking out to the courtyard which is strange because it makes it hidden. You have to know it's there really. Should be better signed.

Sashimi bowl is generally good but fish eggs are a bit too fishy unsure if it is due to freshness of the patch.

Not the best Momoco branch. The one in Burgundy St, Heidelberg is definitely better. Oh and I found Rubber band in my food! Never buying from this branch again.

Love it! Our favourites being bento box A and B which has become a tradition in our house! Won’t go to any other Momoco outlets for this only northland!!

Well this was a nice surprise! This place seems always empty so I thought it must be overpriced or pretty bad food.
It was quite nice. Good food mall food nice.
It’s a really good looking restaurant, which gives you the impression that the food would quite fancy and it’s not
It’s tasty, it was fresh and we enjoyed it. Would of given it 4 but heck! We had soup! I’ve had much better for much cheaper

Absolutely love this place, the tofu and sushi is amazing, and in terms of service the workers have been kind every time with quite fast service, would definitely recommend to any local!

This is by far my favourite sushi spot in Preston! Their service is always friendly and fast while their food is delicious. The teriyaki chicken is amazing and their sushi rolls are always delicious. Would recommend Bento A to anyone who is looking to try a variety of things from the menu :)

Have a few nice experiences but also bad experience at this place. I went there with my boyfriend a few times. Staffs are nice and helpful. Very fast service. My boyfriend loves the teriyaki chicken there! I like the noodle soup and curry. But the fried chicken has been average and dry recently.

I went there with my friend once and the staff just felt annoyed in general and didn’t even bring us some water. ( every table got their water also every time I went with my boyfriend we did get water as well ) my friend order rice with chicken and eggs. It looks completely different compare the pic. She was very disappointed and said it tasted awful. My curry was okay.

I’d love to go back again since I’ve a few nice service and yummy food.

A bit of hit and a miss. The fried rice and tuna salad were good, but the miso eggplant and the sushi were pretty awful. The eggplant was just gross and mushy, and the sushi was hard and stale. The rice was good though and had a good amount of veggies and eggs in it, and the tuna salad was nice too, also the potato pancake was pretty good. But considering it's a sushi restaurant, the sushi was quite bad.

Ordered the bento box here. Good middle range Japanese food and large serving for under $20. Each item was well done and it tasted really great

The customer service is great here
Had the Gyu Don
Rice was hard and crunchy, sitting in the cooker all day, burnt at the bottom of the pot
The rice is just drenched in the beef sauce, god help the chef who spat this out and gave it to me

I love this place! I've been to many sushi places, but since I discovered this place I come here often and I just keep coming back again and again, as the sushi rolls are really just beautiful, ultra fresh and delicious, the service is great and friendly and even the ambience is quite pleasant, modern and the lighting is just right, not too light not too dark... Love it!!!

One of the absolute worst Japanese restaurant that I have personally ate at. Ordered the katsu don, the chicken is barely breaded. It was soggy and tasted like rubber. The rice is flavorless with random pieces of carrots and corn.

Only a couple of vegan friendly options... but what I did have was delicious. Get in me. Lovely staff, which is always a winner in my books.

Really bad, ordered Sashimi boat, the salmons come with bones, and other sashimi fish was not very fresh. kids can't eat it. Dangerously! It's a waste of money. Told stuff and spoke to the chef, but no response.

Really really good feed! The tuna was incredible and the rice bowl was also amazing. I wish i remembered what it was called... the sweet wine vinegar sauce within the rice was sooo good. Loved it!

Been dozens of times and always great! The sabi ebi maki is a failsafe option as they always make it to perfection. The duck and mango sushi is also a great choice.

Not a bad experience here, staff were friendly, the food was pretty nice, and the atmosphere was good! We received a free entree when we walked in which was nice! Not the best Japanese food I've ever had but all round a pleasant experience.

The all you can eat menu was outstanding. Flavour, service and presentation got my attention with a great price at $28 a head. Highly recommend

I was in the area and really felt like Japanese. I've heard of this Japanese place from friends who said they do really good fresh sushi so I came in for lunch.

The service was fast and efficient. The girl served me complimentary green tea which was perfect for a cold winter day and was readily topping it up whenever it was low

I opt for the bento box and at close to $19 (I think $18.50? From memory) it was not value for money and I felt it was too expensive given the food. The bento box came with miso soup and 2 sushi, vegetable tempura on salads, 2 gyoza and teriyaki chicken on rice. My friends were right - the sushi was fresh and good. The vegetable tempura was nice and the batter crispy but it was not served with the normal tempura sauce that you usually dipped in so nothing to cut through the fried oily taste. The gyoza was filling but I've had better. The teriyaki chicken was nice on rice but nothing above normal expectations.

Overall if I was shopping at northland and felt like sushi - this is def better than the food court but it wouldn't be somewhere that I come out for dinner for hence the rating. The price is expensive for the quality of the food and the taste (except the sushi) and you can get either the same at cheaper places or better food with the same price tag.

Love this place! Been here so many times and will keep going back. Consistently good. Staff are super friendly and there is never a long wait.

My friend and I came for lunch once. The staff were friendly and fast. They served us tea (complementary, but apparently they charge if it's dinner?).

I ordered one of the sushi plates expecting the typical tiny rolls they can come in. But the serving sizes were generous. My friend ordered a don and the portioning was once again quite large.

Looking at their hand roll display, the sizes were huge! Almost twice you'd get at Sushi Sushi -- and for the same price. I'm a fan of getting my money's worth so this really won me over

Oh, and they do split bill which is another plus!

A con for this place is the price. The dishes are quite pricey, however they compensate for their large serving sizes.

The overall feel of the place was tranquil and clean. Their deco was very modern and cute.

An all-round great place to eat. I'm definitely go back.

[ A hidden gem in the heart of the North ]
With the enduring glitz of the evergreen Northland Shopping Centre, one can be forgiven for walking past this restaurant tucked away at the entrance. But make no mistake, this place does some great food and great prices. Whenever I'm in the Northern suburbs I make sure I stop by for their duck and mango 'Meiji rolls'.

Came here the other week and ordered the Tatsuta Age Don, which is fried chicken balls with veggies and rice. It was a large meal and very tasty, but there was probably too much rice compared to the veggies and chicken. And the rice is right at the bottom of the bowl with no flavour so the end of your meal is very plain. However for the price, the meal is large and great value for money!
Alison
Terrible katsu don. Tasted off or like it had been cooked in well used oil or soemthing. Yuck. Edamame was best thing and even that was just over boiled beans with table salt. Avoid.

Food was OK but the customer service from our waiter 'chi' was terrible. We weren't even offered water and when we asked they still forgot. When asked about the bento c, a friend of mine had to explain it as 'chi' rolled his eyes and said 'do you want me to explian'?, well yes hence my question. While we were eating he brought out the bill. We hadn't even finished and my child was still wanting something else. We left but not before he tried to over charge us. Won't be back there again.

I absolutely love this place! The food is always fantastic and the staff are welcoming each and every time. This has become the place I go to one a week I love it so much! The service is fantastic and the food comes out very fast! Great place!

One of the best Japanese restaurant in the area.. The staff is very much energetic and welcoming.. Would definitely go there again!! Momoco Sushi .. 👍

I enjoyed the katsu curry as well but I'd have to say the reason why this place isn't very busy is because of the cold atmosphere. You almost need to keep your coat on when dining there. Otherwise food is as good as the one in Heidelberg. Just improve the ambience and you will get more customers.

Don't bother - waste of money.. Some of the worst sushi I've eaten. Ramen is equally atrocious. Only OK thing of the mean is the Curry Katsu Don.

Very good sushi and sashimi - cut expertly & very good quality.
