Glicks would have to be my favourite place for bagels but as well as bagels today we purchased a few extra treats to take over to our grand place for afternoon tea. You can never go wrong with their traditional scrolls and the chocolate one was delicious.
One of the original and best bagel shops in Melbourne. When the late Mendel Glick brought bagels to Melbourne, he changed the game. Whatever flavour you want, sweet or savoury there's a bagel for your choosing. When people ask where they should get their bagels, most people will say Glicks. I like the chilli and garlic, blueberry and carraway seed bagels.
The only thing I'd say about this place is that their sit down service could use minor improvements. I feel that staff are more accustomed to the retail aspect of Glicks as opposed to the cafe side to Glicks. Coffee was average, still drinkable. That's why it should get 4 stars instead of 5 but it's an institution so it's a 5.
Good bagels and breads. The shop is clean and the people are friendly. I have had a meal or two there and they are prompt and attentive. Worth trying.
On our Landlady Liz's suggestion and our sweet tooth's demand we visited Glicks to try some of their stuff and managed to dig into Lemon Meringue Tart, Custard-filled Puffed Pastry (that reminded us of our Italy Trip) and Poppy Seeds Pie (don't exactly remember the name) with a hot chocolate and tea.
To our surprise, even when they are not a cafe, they serve really nice Hot Chocolate (not exceptionally good but decent enough). It was Lemon Meringue Tart that totally took away ours and our tastebuds attention. It was perfectly sweet, perfectly citrusy and the tart was beautifully crumbly.
Poppy Seed Pie was flavorful and had the right crunch that was obviously delivered by the seeds.
Surprisingly, service was damn good. There are only two attendants who take care of everything and expecting superfast service implies you are expecting supergirls and not human beings to do so.
We were disappointed with the Puff Pastry though. Custard was delightful inside a very lumpy and chewy Puff. Would have liked it a bit crispy. Quite small yet clean, Glicks serenaded our palates to a decent extent and we definitely plan to visit it soon to try their other delicacies.
This is definitely one of the better Glicks in Melbourne and is streets ahead in cleanliness than the others in the area too.... I actually stopped going to Balaclava because of that!
We needed bagels and got a large pack and were chewy and soft and really good. Garlic bagels are good too with dinner and they've got a huge selection of cakes at the front. Sears outside too facing the sun which is good on a rare sunny day.
I've searched long and wide for a credible bagel shop since moving to Melbourne. Folks, this is it. Glick's pairs lovely service with utterly authentic Bagels and assorted eats. And they're a great value to boot. If it's awesome bagels you seek, look no further.
What needs to be said. Still the best bagels in Melbourne by a long way. The
Israeli salads are as good as ever. Miss the chocolate covered honey cake.
Thank you Food Safari. We love watching Food Safari and the other night is was all about Jewish Food and being a massive lover of Bagels when they visited Glicks I just had to seek one out. These are the lightest most delicious bagels I have ever eaten...and the salmon patties are pretty good too. Make the extra effort to visit your nearest store and don't be fooled by the Glicks prepacked bagels in Coles and Costco - fresh from the shop is best!!!!
LOVE IT. Awesome filled bagels. Poppyseed cake is just devine. Staff somewhat grumpy :-/ but accepted. Love it and happy I am a regular.
Bizarre that people rate the bagels so highly. They’re tasty and they have a good selection but they don’t have any of the hallmarks of a classic bagel. These are way too bready and the colouring is very light. These are much closer to bread rolls than bagels.
Best bagels in Melbourne.
They freeze and defrost really well.
Always great.
Great place. Love Glicks.
If a bagel and pizza can coexist as one, imagine what else is possible.
Imagine one day you woke up and said 'I feel like pizza, that's weird for brunch, and I love bagels, how do I resolve this?'
Well someone at Glicks read your mind and said 'Hey chill out, we might be in the middle of a global pandemic, there is tragedy everywhere - but we have the technology, the know how, the amazingly awesome super bagel making skills to make a pizza bagel!!!!'
So good - especially if you put salmon and cream cheese on it.
Anyway I know they also have lots of other nice breads but that's my favourite.
Good range of products.
Great friendly staff
Nice and friendly. Coffee and doughnuts very nice. Reasonable price.
Staff here are the best. Such lovely ladies. Great bagels and good coffee. I come nearly every day.
