Review Roza Resturant - Melbourne

If you are into mandi, very highly recommended! Excellent taste, competitive rates. Will surely visit again. Soup and tomato sauce says it all about the authenticity.

Found this hidden gem of a restaurant when we were desperately looking for food @ 9pm and this place did not dissapoint!! Atmosphere was warm and cosy - especially after a long day of work, great service and we LOVED everything! Try their homemade tea, and the lamb soup!! The dishes were all worth the $$, FRESH and deliciously fulfilling!

Great place for mandi, comes with chicken or lamb along with delicious soup. And dont forget to try the tea before you leave. You always have to wait to get the food, but its worth a wait.

Went there to have some Mandi and Kabsa. We tried chicken and loved every bit. The taste was really good. Also liked the prices. The restaurant offers a very traditional look and feel. The soup served with the rice was extremely refreshing and tasty so much so my fussy 4 year old son was having it like anything. Highly recommended and look forward to trying more in future insha'Allah

One of the best places I’ve gone to have Mendi (traditional Yemeni rice), I honestly love coming here on the weekdays and weekend. Fast service and the food never disappoints. The host is honestly welcoming and provides very excellent customer service. Trust me you’ll never disappoint coming here and supporting a family owned business.

Really good food! They have a large variety of Middle Eastern Dishes. Amazing service by the friendly owner and his staff. I eat here twice a week and the restaurant is always packed. Good value for money and top service 👌

I've always refused to visit this restaurant, it did not appeal I think to me, then, one day I was obliged to go, since then; I've been promoting their place. :) I learned not to judge anything without trying.

It is a easy going place. Boy, the real Gulf food taste ( such as Kuwaiti, Saudi, Emarati kitchen) and a touch of Northern African Food I think, tender meat and chicken, yum.
a lovely tea with milk (Chai-Haleeb) or they also call it (Karaak) a yummy & generous treat at the end of the visit.

Indeed worth the visit, I am humble to visit again to enjoying their food.

My craving for Saudi-Yemeni traditional fare took me to this place where we ordered the chicken mandi and chicken kabsa.
Overall the meal was very average and didn’t quite hit the mark with authenticity of the taste either..

Yes/no? Yes only for the chicken

Purchased one of the lamb madghot and one chicken madghot (in the photo attached). I honestly thought the lamb would be beautiful and tender but it was soooo disappointing!! It was chewy and gross

The chicken on the other hand had so much flavour and was so tender! I was in love!
The rice is like any traditional rice you’d find.

Would only come back for the chicken

A good place to go with a big crowd. I always take my overseas visitors here to experience a very different side of Melbourne. If you are getting the rice platter which is also called the Madhi, get a mix of ed and white rice with half chicken and half lamb, this way you get to enjoy basically the whole menu. The soup and salad is also awesome. The vaitors are always funny here and you got to have a lot of patience with them. Just humor them and go with the flow.

Horrible food, bad service.. I know this restaurant was good a few years back, but now with the new management, everything is falling down the drain. I went there on 12th of April 2014, and I swear that'll be the last time! The food was horrible, the rice was a bit raw and not properly cooked. The vanilla muffin has a taste of nothingness. Service was bad, there's only this one young girl doing everything. Avoid this place!

Change of management. When I was living in Coburg, I frequently visited Roza as the food was great and you always expect to get a big portion of meat. For me it was value for money. Since I moved closer to the city, I never set foot there. However, one day my friends and I decided to have lunch at Roza city (yes there are two Rozas!) back in September 2013. We noticed a sign on the glass window stating 'change of management'. However, that didn't refrain us from ordering food as usual. We noticed that the price had gone up a dollar or two and the guy was wearing earphones as he took our order. We struggled to explain our order as he hardly understands English and wearing earphones with some music on (yes I can hear it) did not help at all. Then came the food, we were surprised that the portion was small (3 small lamb chuncks each!) and the taste was average. During our lunch, the guy did not even bother to serve us water and we had to ask. Then came the jug of water with only two glasses and we had to share glasses!. My advise is if the restaurant or shop has a change of management, I do not think it is a good idea to go even if it is your usual hangout place. I liked Roza before September 2013!

I love the food here so yummy

Terrible service in fact. Food is average, lacks aroma like other middle eastern food. Anyway went there with group of friends & families. Not kid friendly. Old guy on the counter was rather agitated by kids noise & run around, what kids usually do. One stage he approached us arrogantly saying he can't stand loud kids. Never been so disgusted by this sort of behaviour! Btw we were about 20 ppl with 3 kids.

First time I went to this restaurant, the food was delicious; whatever slow or nearly absent of service there was, it felt interesting but forgivable. Thought there was a cultural element to the lack of attention fro the staff. The gentleman at the cat register spend merely the whole time on phone cheating, not recognizing need for water or other services. The second time I returned with my family with high hopes, I was dissapointed. Food wasn't as good as it was the first time, and there was hardly any service. When asked for a bit of service the response was surprising - as I was inconviencing the staff by asking for water or utincils! Very disappointing...

Sharing is caring.. Me and my circle of friends are quite regulars at this place. They just love the meat and that it comes in a big dish to be shared. Well there's this option. The place is actually split into two. Front end and back end. Front end is where the tables and chairs are. At the back, it's this made up tent and you're actually seating on the floor. It's cultural i guess. If you're not use to it, you will probably find it hard at first. This place only have chicken and lamb. I'm still yet to confirm where they origin from. Google says Lebanese, my mates say its African but the food sense Afganistan. If you like your meal 3/4 veggie, then this place is not your you. The lamb and chicken are so soft. The only bad encounter i had was, that night the guy behind the cashier was trying to grab my attention while i was having a conversation with my friends. There was about 8 of us and we jsut finish eating. There wasn't a line outside the place and there was still places left in the restaurant. So when the guy got my attention, he was making a head movement to literally tell me to get up, pay and i guess leave. I was quite taken back by it and didnt know how to approch it. So I told my mates nicely and we left like nothing happen. It could be a cultural thing but i would probably think twice now upon returning. It is not the only place that sells this thing kind of meal.

They don't deliver as their website says.

No frills and delicious traditional style!. Very lovely simple traditional food, no frills, quite cheap. The slow cooked lamb is fantastic, and I love the basic yoghurt sauce. Dinner came with a very tasty bowl of soup, a massive serving of rice and a very small amount of salad. If you're into salad you can get an extra serve quite cheap.

LOVE THIS PLACE. My husband and I regulars in the tent out the back. it's uncomfortable if you aren't used to eating whilst sitting on the floor, but the food is amazing and we always get the best service there. the lamb is the best and i love the soup, the rice and the yoghurt is sensational. sad to hear that the owners are selling - hope the place can keep it up with new owners...BUT the original owners are keeping the other Roza in Carlton/city.

edit: oh and it's ridiculously cheap for what you get!

Warm and cosy. We enjoyed our food there especially their basmathi rice. The kids too love the place where we sit on the ground in a tent..

Better bring your friends along... The highlight of this restaurant has got to be the basmati rice platter with your choice of seasoned lamb and/or roast chicken served with a side of salad and yogurt. The dish is served on a large plate and you get to eat it the way it's meant to be eaten - with your hands. Friendly staff, comfortable setting and reasonable pricing ensures you leave with a smile on your face every time.
