They have lots of vegan gelato here. Hazelnut is definitely my favourite!!
As for non vegan flavours, the pistachio and salty macadamia are also winners.
Love the gelato here as they’re not as sweet as other popular ones in the area.
Warm and toasty inside the shop even when it’s freezing outside.
Will be back to try more flavours.

GELATO that is as honest as it can get... @gelatocompa features simple house made artisanal flavours through ingredients sourced locally from farms in the Yarra Valley, no artificial colors or flavours used and a vision to capture the hearts of each and every Melbournian that offer a variety that would cater to every one out there....
🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦
They also have a giveaway going on with a twist...🍬🍬 Give them a new flavour to create and if your flavour wins, your Gelato will feature on their Menu.. check the giveaway post at @gelatocompa ... 👌👌 while you think of new flavours, I am still buzzing from the ripe red berry gelato I had that I just couldn't get enough of. 🌟🌟

Such an overlooked gem. I hear everyone speaking of Pidapipó, Messina, Piccolina... but never have I heard any hype about this place. Even the reviews reflect this - 12 reviews (only!) so far for Compá, but really we should only pay attention to the 5 that actually have a proper review and ratings - and so far they give 5 out of 5. The other 3 gelaterias have heaps of reviews... heaps !
So why do I like this place so much ? The gelato is just as good as the others' - creamy, flavoursome, sweet but not overly so. Some beautiful flavours - I had orange infused ricotta and cinnamon, but it was a struggle to pick with so many good flavours. I noticed as well that the gelato was stored in canisters set in the table (like Pidapipó and Piccolina) so for gluten free diets, I think it's fairly safe from cross-contamination.
And crazily enough, there were gluten free cones !!!! It's been a while since I've had gelato, but I don't recall having the option of a gluten free cone at the other gelaterias the past (numerous) times I've been there.
The server was super friendly too, and indulged my two friends and I as we had samples of nearly all of the gelato there. I know that's not uncommon for a gelateria, but I'd be singing a different tune if we couldn't...
So if you're looking for great gelato AND you're gluten intolerant/coeliac, this may be the place for you !
I came here with a friend after shopping. This place feels very traditional - a great selection of classic and innovative flavours. Free nuts and chocolate drizzle which improves the value proposition. I love that they have vegan friendly options - which are on par flavour wise with their dairy based equivalents. Friendly service, cosy intimate interior. The gelato scene is highly competitive at the moment, but this one deserves to stay.
My favorite place for authentic and delicious gelato in Melbourne! I’ve been back here many times, and I especially love their Salted Macadamia and Orange Ricotta variants. I’m such a fan of the freshness of their flavors and creaminess of their gelato. 👍🏼

Unbelievable flavours, and the salted chilli pistachio was the flavour I never knew I needed. The staff is accommodating, and will happily scoop out all the tiny testers that you need (with metal spoons, not plastic - hurrah!). The cone was tasty, and a delicious way to top off an excellent bout of people watching on a handy al fresco bench. Recommended.
Love the crisp gelati-filled cannoli from this ultra modern Sicilian gelateria. All natural ingredients, with the gelato menu including dairy, non-dairy and vegan options. Our favourite: the orange infused ricotta gelato, with the Dutch chocolate coming in a close second.
Gelato Compa is a modern take on a traditional Sicilian gelateria. Gelato is made from scratch using all-natural ingredients. Fresh fruits. Nuts are roasted and ground in-house. Even the gelati bases are crafted individually for each flavour, rather than using the same base for everything.
Our favourite flavour is the orange infused ricotta, but the menu encompasses a range of dairy, non-dairy and vegan options. And for a special treat, try the Caldo-Freddo – two scoops of gelati between two layers of sponge cake brushed with spiced rum, topped with whipped cream, covered with warm dark chocolate ganache and sprinkled with pistachio nuts.
Really nice gelato. The coffee is very strong and true in flavor (in other words - excellent!). The orange ricotta is also interesting and yum, and fior di latte had a very true milk flavor. So all in all flavors great, I just prefer a slightly softer chewier texture with gelato which is why I gave it a 4. Service was very friendly and kind also.
Perfect way to follow up one of the fine meals you can get on this street. Many options and.even.coffee made with gelato. Next time i.want to try the fresh made magnum style ice creams. Sicilian style wIth all Australian ingredients!
Delicious gelato using local ingredients, lots of vegan options too. Keep an eye out for rotating specials!
Amazing service, they know their stuff, tastes legit italian and awesome options. Chocolate Rosemary flavour really dazzled me!
One of the best things about Australia is that our ingredients are so fresh, but the recipes are authentic, so you get foreign food that’s probably even better than from their original country. In this case gelato. It’s the best ice cream in town. Try their milkshakes - as good as their gelato but goes further.
In my opinion, probably the best gelato joint in the area, made with fresh ingredients and tastes delicious. Plus, Marco, the owner, is friendly and hospitable. Definitely deserves 5 stars and more customers.
Marco’s Sicilian-style gelato is the real deal; when you’re a third-generation gelato maker then you’re gonna know your stuff. Also: quite possibly the best gelato in brioche in Melbourne! Oh and the vegan hazelnut gelato is next level — vegan or not!
Saw a love heart in the fridge as I walking past, was by far the most exquisite Gelato experience of my life. It was raspberry coated in White Chocolate, I feel in love with a love heart...
Definitely one of the best icecream you can find in town. Real Italian gelato made with fresh ingredients. Absolutely to try the brioche and cannoli!
