Review Cooking Corner - Melbourne

Sreerag Nampoothiri K
Located in one of the corners of Little Bourke Street, this place is a hidden gem when it comes to Asian food. In here you will find joy, peace and most importantly; explore well-crafted menu by the head Chef Kyle. Don’t forget to say Hi to the chef as he is quite amiable and would love to explain his fusion cooking style. I have been eating only Asian food prepared by Chinese mainly and Cooking Corner help me understand how different the Taiwanese dishes taste. While you are here; don’t forget to order their Bao’s. They are yummylicious. Since this place is not in any of the busy streets and still in the heart of CBD, it’s a must visit if you looking for a peaceful dining. I am pointing this again and again because I had to walk past the bustling masses and long queues of people in Swanston and Bourke Street to reach this ‘fine dining like’ establishment. Soy-braised pork rice is a must try. This Taiwanese dish will definitely fill up your belly and put happiness in your heart without blowing a hole in your wallet. The restaurant supports order right from your table by using QR code. You can even pay right through the app. They support Liven pay if in case you like to use some credits or to get some cash backs. The staff were incredibly helpful and full of energy. Unlike other Asian restaurants I have been, no offence, the staff here goes one step above to make sure the patrons are doing ok throughout your dining.

I LOVE THE PLACE, FOOD AND STAFF. Be mindful the soy braised pork rice is quite a small serve hence the price ($9). The eggs in all of the dishes were cooked to perfection and the rice was so fluffy and fragrant. I also ordered fried chicken bites but i ate it before i took a picture. Would totally come back!!

Authentic flavours, affordable price with generous portion. Nice ambience although when it’s packed with people, it can be a bit noisy. For a weeknight, this place was almost full, lots of reserved tables. The sweet and sour pork we ordered was flavourful. The beef was a bit too cooked, if it’s a bit rarer, that would be great! Saw lots of people ordering the side dishes. Will visit again to order those!

Delicate, fluffy, high quality baos. I usually dislike bao since I've found it overly doughy and lacking in flavour, but Cooking Corner has changed my mind. I particularly loved the Pork Belly bao. They make everything fresh and the service is very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be returning!

I would recommend trying the food here. The portions are perfect for sharing and the price doesn’t hurt your wallet. The food itself is delicious, you can tell that the food is cooked with care and attention to details. I enjoyed the xiao long bao and spicy wontons the most. Good section of sake and beers available too.

Really cozy place for chit-chat and dining. The food tastes good overall. My recommended dishes are the braised pork belly rice and cumin lamb skewers. The baos are also decent.

The food is soo good. The fried chicken bites are delicious! The baos are so yummy and fluffy. We tried the pork belly bao, and the grilled pork belly one, I liked the grilled one more. The custard buns were yummy too. And the beef burger bao was good! Will come back for more! The staff were friendly and polite, the ambience is nice too! Check this place out 👌🏼 Update: came here a few more times. The sweet and sour pork rice is very delicious, the vegetable spring rolls are perfect! 10/10

Whether you feel like having a snack or a full meal, Cooking Corner has got you completely covered! FOOD: We ordered a HUGE LOAD of food being :- Classic Baos, Pork Belly Bao, Sweet BBQ Pork Buns, Grass Fed ‘Cape Grim’ Steak Rice, Braised Beef Noodle Soup and the Edamame Pate with Spring Onion Pancakes. The stars of the show had to be the Baos! All the baos are made with the best dough, they are pillowy and soft while still maintaining that chew! Whether it’s a gua bao or char siew bao, the dough is just so complementing with the fillings. The fillings aren’t any shy of amazing! Asking me to choose a favourite bao would be like asking me to choose a favourite child, extremely difficult but I personally ADORED the Sweet BBQ Pork Buns! It’s truly one of the best BBQ porks I have ever tasted and the flavour was just out of this world and amazing! The pork belly bao was crazy good with a hoisin ketchup (don’t judge it until you taste it 😉), it tasted like an asian quarter pounder or basically just AMAZING! The Classic is amazing as well and no matter what dish you are ordering, you can truly be rest assured that the meat you receive will not be any shy of perfection! Their main dishes which were the Steak Rice and Braised Beef Noodle Soup were tremendous and exactly what everyone NEEDS during this cold winter! The Steak Rice is perfect for anyone who loves steak or food in general. The steak is already amazing because Cooking Corner uses fresh & high quality ingredients but the GLAZE, oh my lawd! Highly recommend this for everyone! The Braised Beef Noodle Soup was so warming and comforting during this cold weather. The broth was flavourful, the beef was so juicy but yet tender, the noodles were cooked perfectly! Finally, my personal favourite which is the edamame pate with spring onion pancakes! Spring onion pancakes are already one of my absolute favourite things in the world so when I saw that Cooking Corner decided to put a special twist on it, I was all on board. The spring onion pancake was crispy but yet not too oily which made it such an absolute delight to snack on but together with that edamame pate! Oh my goodness, I was blown away! Everything about this dish I highly recommend or all their dishes really! An absolute 10/10 for their food! SERVICE: Kyle & his crew are not simply there to serve you food but make you feel at home while you dine! They are super attentive and accommodative to any requests and are super pleasant and friendly! Going to Cooking Corner truly made you feel like you were dining at a local eatery with happy and energetic faces, dedicated chefs and just an amazing atmosphere! Cooking Corner is a gem that deserves more recognition and is genuinely one of the most delicious Asian food eateries I have been to! Their prices are reasonable for the splendid and unarguable high quality and good portions and their service is absolute perfection! I can only give them full compliments and love! Thank you so much for the amazing food ❤️

If you love bao buns, you definitely gotta check out this cute little restaurant! 🙊🍥

Dishes:🍲🍟🍔
Pork belly bao buns 🥓| Menchi katsu bao burgers 🍔| fried chicken bites 🐔| Cape Grim grass fed steak rice 🍛 | mapo tofu with rice 🍛

Value:💰💲
My favourites were the bao buns and bao burgers - they were so soft and flavourful! The steak rice was the highlight too, tasted delicious with the runny egg on top 🍳 Did not enjoy the mapo tofu with rice, nothing special about this dish, would not reorder in future.
Slightly on the pricey side, however still affordable considering the quality of dishes 🤩

Will I go back and overall score: ❌⭕️💯
Yes - 9/10

Very quiet restaurant on a Saturday night. We went here using zomato gold. Food here was amazing! It's one of those hidden gems or newer restaurants that need more exposure. Trendy and great atmosphere.

Great restaurant for lunch. My favourite dishes is the Mapo Tofu, Baos and Chilli wontons. I also love coming here with colleagues and grabbing a drink (great variety of beer/cider and wine), especially on a Friday. Food and service is quick, which is important on a lunch break.

We ordered a few baos and dumplings and shared most of the food. The chilly wonton is lovely, I enjoyed the tempura fish bao and katsu bao burger. Food is yummy, bao not overly saucey and filling-bao proportion was good. Cute little corner, service is fast but not overwhelming. My second time here and enjoyed both meals. Price is a little on the high side but at least the quality is decent.

Decent food at affordable prices. I quite liked the daikon croquettes which were crunchy and paired well with the green chili mayo. The soy braised pork rice is a bigger serving than it appears to be in a small bowl. Both components of the fried green tea ice cream bao sandwich were yummy but was actually quite difficult to eat as the bun was hard to break through with a spoon.
We had gone to use Zomato Gold and made sure to ask before ordering about which dishes were valid for the 1+1. We were told that the promotion was only valid for the dinner dishes. Unfortunately, it turned out that the waitress had misunderstood instructions and the dinner dishes were excluded. Thankfully EatClub had a deal that brought our total bill to approximately what we had expected. Hopefully the staff understand the new Zomato Gold discounts more clearly.
Cooking Corner is bright and spacious. The shape of the restaurant can make it hard to get the attention of staff though, as they seem to stand near the front when it is quiet.

Delicious Taiwanese style dishes at a great price! Like the decor here - quite chic and cozy. Staff was pretty friendly and service also fairly efficient. Booked on The Fork app so we received 50% off the entire bill (excluding alcohol), which was amazing! Drinks are slightly pricier but are still reasonable enough. Highly recommend the Taiwanese beef noodles and braised pork rice, as these are signature dishes. Daikon croquettes and Brussel sprouts were also delightful and suited my palate. The only slight downside was the use of too much MSG in the food, however this is quite common in Asian cuisine in general so I guess it’s not that bad. On the whole, a cool eatery worth visiting!

Really really nice bao buns in a chilled out comfortable space, the restaurant is very clean and food fresh.
My beef noodle soup was full of flavour and really well done and the lamb cumin skewers tender and flavoursome although a bit small.
Will not hesitate to go back here again.

Came here on a recommendation from a friend. Very friendly staff, but after a warm welcome they immediately told me all the dinner items and several select items all over the menu were excluded from zomato gold (will have to ask zomato about this) And then proceeded to explain that all the beef was sold out, also the scallops and a couple of other items too. Leaving us with a choice of calamari, pork and tofu. Will come back again in the future, but in the mean time, this is poor form team! If you’re reading this, please do better.

Good busy venue, sweet and sour pork rice came out quickly 🍛🍛🍛. Beef noodles taste🍜🍜🍜🍜 a lot better and topping up with the chill 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶is a must 。fast service and great price (with Zomato gold) 💰💰💰💰💰

this place had great service and delicious food. the szechuan wantons and baos were really well done maybe the wantons could have been a bit spicier.

Modern Malaysian restaurant in CBD. Had nice dining experience on Thursday night.

- grass fed steak rice ☆☆☆☆

Tender steak on rice, it was delicious but a bit pricey. One floor staff was super friendly and gave us some recommendations before we ask for it which made us feel comfortable.
Will come back to try noodles next time.

Really good atmosphere and amazing food. The employees are extremely nice and attentive
Thats My Food
Cooking corner is literally tucked in the corner of a building and serves some great food. This place is located on little Bourke street and serves some pretty good food. I was craving for dumpling soup when I went there, but they didn't have any. Still, I came out a happy customer because of the good food that they had.
I ordered beef and noodle soup and spicy wonton. Noodles in the soup were very light and airy and the flavor of the soup was really nice as well. The quantity of meat in the soup was very generous. Wontons were the hero of the night for me. They were covered in spicy sauce and had amazing flavor. The texture of wontons was spot on. I really liked the preparation of the food.

I didn't like the quantity to price ratio of the dishes, they were a bit on the expensive side if you consider the amount that is served on the plate. But I used Zomato Gold and got one complimentary dish so I shouldn't be the one to complain about that.

The interior of this place and the sitting area was quite nice as well. The only thing I would recommend is the addition of dumpling soup. hehe :P

Went to this smart & chic looking cafe without any expectation. Ordered the $28 steak and rice, waiter didn't ask but somehow was able read my mind and served beautifully cooked medium rare steak with egg and rice. We also ordered the yummy crispy chicken slider. Overall experience was great, Will come back to try different items on the menu.

3.5/5
Ambience here is very casual, chill vibes, service was great, everyone was very kind and considerate.

Food overall was good but not amazing -
Baos: fried chicken and fish was the highlight, super crispy and the perfect amount of saltiness; the lamb bao was kind of weird to me, I think the gravy + bao combo threw me off, I wasn’t a fan; the baos lacked sauce overall and could’ve had a bit more flavour
Bao burger: (katsu) tasted exactly like a cheeseburger burger, really delicious definitely recommend
Steak rice: pretty good, but a little overpriced for the quality of the meat and what you get overall
Fried bao with black sesame ice cream: really yummy, black sesame ice cream was delicious

Overall I think the food is pretty good, however I wouldn’t come back anytime soon.

All of a sudden, I passed by a shop, and immediately there was Asian bread and Fried shrimps, the shrimps were very crisp, and the dumplings were very delicious.⋯I will back here again 🤗

I love how this place offers a variety of small dishes. I have had alot of xiao long bao in the past but this place soup dumplings were undeniably delicious 🤤. Their pork belly bao is to die for. Would definitely return to try out other dishes.

Bad service, i booked a table but they didn’t reserve a seat for me. Bad food, wasnt up to my expectation of 4.3 high rating on zomato. disappointed
Really nice new restaurant. It’s kinda japanese style. The price is affordable and service is great.

Went here on a groupon voucher. Great value for money. The food showcased the skill in the kitchen, but could have had more variety of protein - three from six dishes were pork.
Gee
I really enjoyed this meal. Lots of small dishes to be had. Started with a couple of baos - fried chicken and the panko prawn. I loved the spring onion pancake with the edamame pate - novel! The dumplings were nice and juicy too. Sweet pork buns and fries to round it out. I’d definitely come back again.
Cookielessvee
Walk in and be welcomed with friendly staff.

The baos come out quick. Panko prawn bao burger. Crispy prawn battered in panko, topped with a melted slice of cheese and bulldog tonkotsu sauce.

Pork belly bao - a popular pick with tender pork belly slices. The hoisin and sesame dressing infuse well with the crisp cucumbers. The bao skin is soft and bouncy.

Daikon croquettes - a thin crisp batter with soft and flavourful daikon. The green chili mayo is smoothe.

Fried black sesame bao sandwich - probably my favourite. The bao is deep fried adding a crisp when eaten. The black sesame is sweet and grainy but small in portion.
Who went - 2 food lovers
Ambience - Pretty full for a weekday dinner
Service - 5/5 - Very polite & attentive wait staff
Order -

Classic & pork belly bao -5/5
Katsu bao burger -4/5
Diquon croquettes -5/5
Cumin lamb skewers - 3/5

Def recommend trying the soft baos & if you skip the burgers you wouldn't miss much. Croquettes were pretty good but the lamb skewers were a disappointment. Both of us are average meal eaters & felt we ordered a lot but since the prices are as per the portions we left quite satisfied.

Verdict - Def worth a visit!

Everything was so good! The braised pork rice and fried chicken bites were my favs. The place is a little hard to find, but it’s right next to the parking lot.

Cute hidden chinese eatery.

I really like the ambiance and design of this place, minimalistic and well-kept. The staffs were also really nice, though sometimes they weren't seen so might be hard to call someone. The food also didn't take long.

Been here twice.

Xiao long bao was yummy, juicy and flavourful with nice thin skin. It was a tad pricier but well made. Came with vinegar and ginger.

My sis had vegetable dumplings and requested half boiled half pan-fried and we appreciated that it was possible. This one had a nice skin, however they definitely lacked flavour especially the boiled ones so we asked for some more soy sauce, originally came with some vinegar sauce.

Mapo tofu was pretty good, but again I think it wasn't enough for the rice and also lacked bit of flavour. Not too spicy which was great.

Green tea ice cream bao was pretty straightforward, nothing special but was quite good.

On my recent visit had the soy pork on rice and it was yummy. I like the flavours and the ratio of meat to rice was quite good, just a tad bit more would be great though and if they are in bigger pieces.

And I love the shallot oil noodle, it was just really fragrant and flavourful while being really simple and the noodle texture was lovely.

Overall a pretty solid eatery with a really good potential, they're on eatclub and zomato gold too!

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle.

This small casual eats restaurant blew our mind with super tasty food, gorgeous presentation and friendly staff.

The Szechuan dumpling: served in 10pcs and not too spicy with flavour well-balanced. Love how they present the food. You can just tell the owner cares a lot, paying attention to small details like the plate and the spoon.

The sour and sweet pork rice: has to be our FAVOURITE, the pork is nothing like the traditional thick batter ones where you get at the old-school takeaway shop, surprisingly, it was crispy af and almost thought we were eating crispy pork! Super yum.

I love how they had the light projection at the front door, and some stylish decor indoor. Will definitely be back for some small eats.

Relaxing ambiance with cozy sitting place. Found this nice place through Zomato Gold which offers two for one complimentary food. Pretty good deal having food with friends here at night.

Rate 3.5

I went with friends yesterday, so excited to try out this restaurant! I like ambiance quite nice and cozy. Staff were friendly and welcoming even they knew we using zomato’s promotion.

We really enjoyed the food and service.

Fried chicken is yum!
Wonton, my opinion, it could be a bit more spicier.
Mapo tofu is ok for me, a bit sad to see the egg broken when it’s served on the table 🥺

I got a bad luck myself with a bit of issue but the boss who responded to me is very kind and understandable!

Saw their omakase menu, may be I should give it a try next time!

At first, I wouldn’t know if this place was existed until my friend brought me here. This place has a nice ambiance, cozy and comfortable sitting place. So I ordered sweet sour pork for my self, and we share fried chicken bite and sichuan wonton. Overall, all the food were yummy and not to forgot the service is superb. All the staffs were very humble.

This place changed their menu since we last came here. But they still have excellent food and great service, would definitely come back here and eat again.

After visiting Holey Moley down the road we were looking for somewhere for dinner. Totally unplanned and no reservation. We were knocked by one place but Cooking Corner had seats. We were welcomed into this restaurant by the lovely staff which put a table together for us. The service was so attentive. The menu looked so good it was hard to pick from so we went with the Feed Me well priced at $45. This is the best feed me I have ever had the value for money, the selections, Options and of course flavour made it a 5 out of 5. Highly recommend the feed me you won't be disappointed.

Been to this place quite a few times already and every time has been a great experience! From the friendly staff to the neat modern decor, but best of all is definitely the food. We’ve tried most of the items on the menu and all of it is absolutely delicious. But my favourite is definitely the fried green tea ice cream sandwich. Probably the best dessert I’ve ever had! Overall, love this place, can’t wait to go back again.

Food 5/5 ⭐️
🐷 The best Taiwanese style braised pork bao in Melbourne. I was told that the chef prepares all the ingredients by hands, from braising the pork for hours to making the preserved veges from scratch. The whole piece was put together like a beautiful orchestra – I even got a second serving of the bao.
🥩 We also tried the Grass Fed ‘Cape Grim’ Steak Rice. Truly the steak was given the right justice - meat was cooked perfectly – it was succulent and tender. The honey pepper sauce gives a nice flavour without compromising the taste of the meat itself.

Service 5/5 ⭐️
We were served by friendly waitresses – they put attention to the small details like replacing our drinking water, getting us sharing plate – all without asking.
Head chef & boss, Kyle, was really friendly too, one of the most passionate chefs I’ve met. His passion in perfecting the dishes for his customers radiates through his words and of course, his food.

Price $-$$
Their menu is fairly priced, bao ranging from $6-7. To have a complete satisfied dinner, you’ll be looking at getting a bao or entrée and then pair it with a main which cost an average of $15. Do splurge on the Grass Fed Steak ($28) at least once.

Overall verdict ✅✅✅
Only have wonderful things to say about Cooking Corner. From the food to the service, they deserve a full 5 stars. Will definitely be patronising them much more and try other food on the menu.

💰Tip💰
Cooking corner is currently on EatClub offering a massive 40% off but the coupons are limited, get it while it lasts.

Found this thru EatClub which offered a 40% discount on the total bill.. we ordered braised pork rice, Dan Dan noodle, fried chicken bite, braised pork gua bao shared it between 2 girls.. every dish here is not considered big & every item was not more than $10 if not mistaken.. this place is ideal to order a few items to share or 1 person can easily eat up to 2-3 dishes.. food tastes very good and it get very authentic.. it was defiant more enjoyable with the EatClub deal.. I will definitely come back and try some of their other dishes...

UPDATED: Nov 2019
Went to try their prawn bao burger and was definitely a delightful snack! Bao was soft and fluffy, the prawn tempura was nicely fried and battered with good ratio of prawn to panko crust. Good amount of mayo. Can use more veggies but overall a wonderful dish to have!

Cute little place tucked in CBD. Came here because I saw it on the eatclub app and was intrigued by their menu as it reminded me of Taiwan. Definitely portions were smaller but it was representative of what you would get if you were in Teipei. Quite liked that!

Braised beef bao 3/5 - bao was soft, brisket was tender, some preserved pickles in there to give it some salty and umami. Overall decent but nothing out of the ordinary and I wouldnt say I would want to order it again.

Mapo tofu rice - came out small but portion was would probably be enough if you came with a friend and ordered a snack on the side to share, possibly with a drink too lol. That being said, tofu was smooth and silky, rice was well cooked and seasoned where you can actually pick up individual pieces of rice if you liked. Mapo seasoning was good, but more towards the Sichuan flavours in my opinion than what I am used to. I havent had mapo tofu in a while though so perhaps I just wasnt sure! Overall enjoyable but not necessarily my cup of tea.

I would love to try their other dishes though, especially the fried stuff as it looked really crispy and juicy in neighboring tables. Great place to hang out with friends for snacking and just catching up. Great service as well. Price with eatclub is a bonus!

We found this eatery through EatClub App for 40% off. As the name suggests, it’s located just on the corner of Little Bourke and Crombie Lane. It’s a humble little restaurant and I probably wouldn’t have noticed it if I walked past! Nonetheless, we had a lovely experience here and I’m so glad we found it!

The menu is made up of a variety of small dishes which are perfect for sharing. Even the noodle and rice dishes are small, but that’s good because you can try more! The service is very fast and all our food was out in no time.

The Daikon Croquettes were really crispy on the outside, and soft and mushy on the inside. A little bit bland but it goes perfectly with the wasabi mayo!

The Fried Chicken Bites were very good too - the batter is quite light and it’s not too oily. Of course, you can’t go wrong with kewpie mayo for dipping either.

The Sichuan Spicy Wontons were one of our favourite dishes! The special sauce is incredible, and the wontons themselves are on point. It’s not really spicy at all, but they do have chilli oil on the table which you can add yourself.

The Sweet Potato Chips were so addictive! The tempura batter is extremely crispy and light, and the plum ketchup adds a nice sweetness. Another one of my favourites!

The Fried Chicken and the Tempura Fish Bao Burger were very impressive! I loved both of them equally - the contrast between the soft bao bun, crispy chicken and fish, and creamy sauce works so well! They’re quite small so definitely get one per person!

The Classic Bao was pretty good too, although I did prefer their Bao Burgers, as we thought the pork belly filling was lacking sauce. Nonetheless, the gua bao was super soft and fluffy!

The Soy Braised Pork Rice was decent - I liked the fattiness of the pork belly mixed with the rice, however I think the dish overall was a bit bland.

The Braised Beef Noodle Soup was alright too. The gravy beef was cooked very soft and tender, and the noodles were cooked well too. However the soup base still lacked some flavour. I think their smaller dishes are their strong points!

Lastly, we had the Green Tea Ice Cream Sandwich to finish. And wow, it was heavenly! The combination of a warm, crispy fried bao with the creamy, cold green tea ice cream is honestly amazing. Definitely save enough space for these - you’ll want to try it!

Overall we had a really lovely dinner at Cooking Corner. I would highly recommend checking out this casual eatery!

4.5/5
This is a great Chinese casual restaurant in Little Bourke Street (west end).

I really like bao buns so when I heard about this I was on my bike ... well almost hahaha

The service was impeccable, professional, friendly and attentive.

Foodwise I ordered a Classic Bao, which was pork belly... OMGosh yes!! It was sooo good, the bao was soft, light but I just wanted a bit more filling.

The fried chicken bao burger was perfect! 5/5 crispy, crunchy and the chicken was piping hot and so well seasoned!

As an accompaniment I had some sweet potato chips in a Tempura batter. They were really good, but i think if they were plain then I may have enjoyed them more, (Personal preference) and full points for trying.

Overall it was great experience and as a major fan of bao buns, this is a very welcome addition to the Melb food scene.

Definitely worth a visit!

My third time here, everything was pretty good
2 dishes that we both agreed stood out were the daikon croquettes and the sichuan wontons. Croquettes were highly addictive - balance of soft inside and crunchy exterior and amazing sauce.

Sichuan wonton were juicy and the accompanying sauce, abeilt a tad in the sweet side, is quite good.

Fried chicken bun had weird sauce and chicken combination and very small for $7. Classic pork belly bun was not good -my partner ate it only because he was hungry and again $6 was too much for a thin slice of pork. Sauce for wanton was good but pork dumplings was more skin than filling.
Only the daikon croquettes were good.
We wont be back or recommending this place.
Richard Alexander
Such a nice and comfy place. At first we thought the portion’s gonna be small by looking at the price, but the size of their food is actually not too bad. You guys should also try their matcha ice cream bun. Yum!

This restaurant serves up various Chinese dishes, most of which are classified as Taiwanese. They do various small plates which are ideal for sharing or giving you more variety to your meal. The menu is quite refined and the pricing is quite affordable so we weren't too shy to let loose.

Firstly we sampled their daikon croquettes which were crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside with a light radish flavour. We also got their Sichuan wontons which weren't as spicy as they looked but were well made and fragrant, swimming in chilli oil.

Their classic baos were filled with pork belly, peanuts and pickled greens. The bao itself was light and fluffy but I'd personally prefer the pork to be a singular fat slab rather than small slices. Still a solid bao. We also got some fried chicken bites which were seasoned with hot sauce and some kewpie mayonnaise on the side. It remained crispy even though we left it sitting on the table for awhile.

For something more substantial we got their soy braised pork rice which is a hearty Taiwanese dish. My friend seemed to enjoy it much more than me as he worked abroad there. We got some extra house braised eggs which were perfectly cooked, not sure if they were meant to be marinated as it didn't give off much secondary flavour. We also got some fragrant shallot oil dry noodles which given its simplicity was absolutely addictive. Getting hit with umami flavour and satisfyingly slurping the noodles makes for a great accompaniment with anything.

Very strong Taiwanese food with a twist here and there, it makes me wonder why I paid so much for substandard food at other similar restaurants I've been to recently.

Overall score: 17/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: small baos and comfort food
*
Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the tiny fried chicken Bao hit all the right spots. The fried chicken was crispy and they included just the right amount of sauce. The Bao itself was soft, fluffy and delicious. The braised pork rice was quite standard - they were very generous with the rice but there wasn’t enough pork to finish all the rice.
*
Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the cafe adopted a minimalistic design. Really good music choices (indie playlists for the win!), creating a relaxed atmosphere.
*
Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️- the restaurant portions here are small, so always order more if you are hungry. Thanks to @eatclubapp , I scored a 40% discount which made it more value for money. Baos cost about $7 while braised pork rice costs $8.
*
Presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - they made the effort to plate the dishes well.
*
Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - service was friendly and fast. Took about 5 minutes to get my food.

Wow!! I was so impressed with this place. Chinese tapas done right!! The baos were just perfect and I particularly loved the slight grilled touch. The fillings were delicious, moist and nicely balanced. The Sichuan wontons were great, croquettes were perfectly crumbed and beef noodles nicely done. The price was fair and so were the portions. The service and ambience were stellar. Well done team!

Beautiful interiors! We had the classic bao and the daikon bao. Both were delicious. Highlight was the fluffy and soft bao. The dessert is a nice twist on the usual fried mantou. I still prefer mine the traditional way but it was interesting to try.
Extra points for cute decor and nice ambiance :)
Bonkers
Sooo yummy, big tick from me on staff, food and price! Ordered the Sichuan spicy wonton that were very tasty and just enough of a kick, the classic bao and fried chicken were delicious!

Tried their classic bao which was underwhelming imo. There wasn't much taste to the braised pork but the bun itself was soft and fluffy. Their fried chicken bao was slightly better but my favourite was the matcha bao burger. I mean.. What could go wrong with fried bao and matcha ice cream :)

I recommend trying the soy braised pork rice! It was really good. The mapo tofu rice was average. The ambience is nice and staffs were very very friendly.

We were on our way out for lunch elsewhere... but couldn’t walk past... this inviting new place has an enticing menu and inviting interior. Two of us, one a big eater, shared four small dishes (though one would probably do me for lunch) and a kimchi! The mapo tofu was tasty (but lots of rice), the Dan Dan was not super spicy but you can add heat, the fried chicken was delicious and the chilli wanton a winner! Overall a really tasty and good value lunch... I’ll be happy to go again and keep exploring! Great in a group to share a few dishes...

I really enjoyed the experience eating in this place. From the moment taking my order in paper and during the billing.

The bun was so nice and fluffy and my adventure of trying the Ice cream bun was also nice.
