As with most other reviews I cannot disagree with their general thoughts of food and service, however I will say that this is not unlike any Hong Kong / Canto bistro in my years abroad. Tasty, bold and plentiful dishes is what they unapologetically do here. No they won't win any hipster awards for Cheap eats or service nor do they clearly don't care for it, so if you are a 'foodie' don't come here, however If you like Hong Kong bistro style food and the inevitable service that generally comes with it then you'll be fine here. So we had the steam salted chicken, beef hor fun, hot and sour soup. All tasty and exactly what I expected, even the chicken was aged which was a nice surprised (most Aussies and second gen Aussies prefer them young)
Please don't change, these restaurants are a dying breed.
Big portion food at reasonable price. Used to come here a lot during college and order their duck fried rice. Ambience is nice and loud. Customer service can be improved.
Came here a few times before. Food is cheap here with ok sizes portions. Taste is ok too. Good for if you want something simple and casual. Because there are so many Chinese restaurant in the City for similar price, therefore there a lot places you can go to. Service is not too good. 😀
Came here today with my parents just to have a simple, quick lunch. I ordered number 78 on the lunch menu which was the steamed fillet fish with vegetables on rice. The food was not presented beautifully but it was expected because of the price, only $11.50 for this huge plate of rice! It filled me up to the brink I don't think I finished it all. But the fish was extremely fresh and surprisingly tender, vegetables had a nice crunch.
Service: the service here was very unexpected. They were very nice and friendly! Greeted us when we came in and took our orders very attentively.
Overall: definitely would visit this place again and again. Very cheap meal with large proportions it's my forte.
Used to come here and order either Chicken or Pork Chop on fried rice and Iced Milk Tea. The fried chicken ribs is crunchy and salty. Portion is quite big. Ambience is quiet and relaxed.
Cheap and tasty Chinese food. Portions are large and good for sharing. Staff are polite and friendly. Try the live seafood from the tanks at the front. Steamed fish is great.
This place can cater for large groups as there is plenty of seating and cheap drinks also.
This is my fifth time coming back to this restaurant. When ever I visit Victoria market with my family, I always tend to eat at this place. They serve very typical Chinese food, with large proportions and offer cheap prices (fantastic for students). Service was ordinary, nothing special waitresses were nice but didn't look too enthusiastic serving us. Overall they serve up good food, it is basically a "pay for what you get" type of restaurant.
I had the fish fillet with bean curd on rice. This restaurant is not the kind of restaurant which offers large plate but small food. This restaurant is very generous, large plate and also plenty of food. I tried very hard to finish my lunch, the whole dish is quite filling and tasty.
For a cheap eat = 4/5
If you are in town and looking for a decent place that is really cheap this is a place to try
Not many places where three people can eat for under $50 and all leave full (I am a big eater)
3.5/5 - Quality = It is not fine dining but it still tastes great
4/5 - Service = Friendly and welcoming, attentive to
3/5 - Atmosphere - Usually busy, never hard to find a seat, family friendly and suitable for groups
4/5 - Menu = Good selection of Chinese food and dumplings, You will definitely find something to eat and doesn't take long to come out.
Not hard to find , across the road Vic Market on Elisabeth St,
Thumbs Up - Recommended - Will be back
for sharing foods, this is the place that taste good and great value. We order 5 dishes for 4 people only cost 60$, Our fav dishes will be roasted plum duck sauce, and sweet and sour pork. The place not so pretty but still acceptable.Their steamed baramundi very good price too only 30$ for wholel fish.
I passed by this restaurant for many times and today I finally went into the restaurant with my friends. The food is amazing! Especially for the shrimp dumplings and Steamed BBQ Pork Bun. I love them! Especially, the Century Egg Congee with Chicken (porridge) reminds me of my hometown back in China. It’s really a nice place for the traditional Chinese cuisine. I will definitely try more dishes next time!
Quick value meals. Attentive friendly service.
Great place for lunch opposite Vic Market.
A good inner city lunchtime option good dumplings and great value rice dishes. Go for the roasted duck rice at only $10.50 it is great value.
Good Cantonese style meals here. Not many left in Melbourne now. Hope they stay there for many years ...
