Review Yami Yami - Melbourne

John Lampa
I remember eating at this place a few years back and really loving the delicious kimchi fried rice with creamy prawns so I had been really looking forward to my meal here today. Place was quite busy when I walked in... waited patiently to be served... however the waitstaff ends up leading the person who was in line behind me to a table first! When I raised my hand to ask, I was cut short and told to wait further. After waiting another couple of minutes or so, she tells me to just go to any table (I'm not sure why I wasn't told that in the first place as the table had been ready the whole time). She comes around to my table and then proceeds to lay down a napkin and some utensils right on top of a wet spot which results in the napkin becoming saturated. When my order came I noticed it looked a bit different from the last time I had the same dish here and was surprised by how small the 4 pieces of prawns on the dish were and how diluted the creamy garlic sauce was compared to previous (you can clearly see the difference from the photos below --- the watery sauce has drained to the bottom of the plate on this occasion while the thicker sauce in the previous version remained pretty evenly distributed over the entire dish). The taste was still decent but the quality and presentation is no longer like what it used to be. This dish cost $21 not including the extra Labour Day public holiday surcharge which is fair enough, but I feel I could have gotten a much better meal and experience elsewhere for the same price. This place will probably still remain popular enough because of the decent servings they have for some of their other dishes but there are now a lot of new Korean restaurants/eateries in the CBD that will be competing for attention. Sadly, I don't think I will consider returning to this place ever again.

An interesting one for me. What they lack in flavor they compensate in portion size. The portions are just humongous so it's really nice when you have a large group of people eating with you. Just makes it more fun. Ventilation is a bit bad so you end up smelling like the frying pan when you get out. But don't let that stop you. Order the fried chicken with tteotbokki; sweet, crispy, spicy goodness.

Come here every so often because of the huge portion sizes. Great for a massive feed. Ordered a spicy chicken sizzling plate for 2 people. As you can see it is massive. We asked the chefs to try so.e rice in later and they gave us a cute heart dish back. Best to go during quiet to.es as staff really go extra mile for you :)

Nice Korean place that does dakgalbi which is a spicy chicken hot pot. The Korean fried chicken was good too. Drink specials for soju. Enjoyed it and would go back.

Absolutely awful! I ordered kimchi friend rice and was given a cup of fried rice that was completely swimming in a horrible cream sauce. All I could taste was the cream sauce and none of the kimchi fried rice. Not to mention the price which was absolutely ridiculous! There is so many korean places in the cbd that do this dish a lot better and for half the price and 2-3 times the amount of food.

Ordered the signature sweet chili chicken on sizzling plate and I’m simply amazed by the size of the serving. For your reference, this is for two people. Very heavy flavors and just overall very yummy.

We went to this place cuz we were craving for dakgalbi and not all the korean restaurants have this dish in their menu. So we order dakgalbi x 2. I like that in the menu there is the list of toppings you can add to the basic ones. I ordered a beef bulgogi donburi too. Prices are reasonable. Portions are big enough. And it was delicious! Staff is nice and service was fast.

Went here with friends looking for a Japense style sukiyaki after a recent trip to Japan. It didn't have thw flavour we were affer but it was yum regardless. Not too expensive and generous portions. Worth our money, the bbq chilli chicken goes down alright. Service was okay.

Insta: melbfoodie_mark
YT: MelbFoodieMark
** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne!
-
I recently walked by Yami Yami and coincidentally found out they specialize in Chunchoen Dak-Galbi (Spicy Chicken). Chunchoen is a region in Korea that's known for this specific type of Spicy Dak-Galbi which comes out in a HUGE pan. Typically you'd leave about 1/3 in the pan and let the sauce simmer to fry them with extra rice to make Dak-BokGum-Bab. I was expecting a half-assed version but was rather blown away how authentic it was :) Not to mention, I loved its rustic vibe - nostalgic.

We ordered Medium Size ($58 - 3 people size) and added Cheese ($5), Rice ($8), and Glass Noodles ($5) to take it up a notch. When it came out, we were all blown away because it was so damn big! It was legit big enough to feed a small village. Medium Size was more than enough for 4 and we even had enough left over for 2. It was mildly spicy with heaps of marinated chicken thighs and assorted vegetables. It was undoubtably tasty but I'd personally ask for extra spice next time to really bring out its flavours. Will definitely definitely visit again!

Pro Tip: Always add Cheese and Bok-Gum Bab to your Chunchoen Spicy Chicken (Chuncheon Dak-Galbi). Just trust

Points for: dakgalbi spicy fried chicken

The Lonsdale St Yami Yami is a little quieter than other Korean restaurants nearby, but it’s still quite good.

Their signature dish is the Chuncheon Spicy Chicken, not often found in many Korean restaurants.

It’s mildly spicy with large chunks of chicken thigh, and you can add to it, like cheese and dukbokki. Also order ssam vegies to wrap it all up.

It’s almost customary to leave 1/4 of it in the pan and add extra rice. They will take it away and fry it all together. Totally overboard but so good!

Walked into Yami Yami on a weekday and it was half full. No need to worry about booking!

Ordered:
🌽 Corn Cheese: Korean style sweet corn and capsicum topped with melted cheese and sweet mayonnaise ($11.00)
🍚 Beef Bimbimbap: Stone bowl with various pickles ingredients to mix ($16.50)
🍝 Japchae: Stir fried sweet potato noodles with beef, mushrooms and vegetables ($16.00)

Review:
Although Yami Yami has amazing price:quantity ratio, the quality isn't quite hitting the mark.
The japchae came out as a lumpy, almost dry overcooked experience where it was a pain to tear the noodles away from the rest of its crowd.

Bibimbap was decent, where the egg was cute and circular. Really liked the corn cheese - I felt like they made this really well.

Service was quick, and the bell on the table was really convenient.
If you want some solid korean dishes (and willing to book) I'd definitely recommend joomak!
However, as I someone who likes quality > quantity, this place wasn't amazing for me.

Finally tried this place out after such a long time. This place is pretty spacious and it was definitely warm inside. The staff wasn't the friendliest though the food was a reasonable wait.

Had the samgyetang (삼계탕), and honestly looked bit unappealing. It was legit just clear soup, with water consistency unlike other samgyetangs I've had which has a richer and thicker broth. The chicken is stuffed alright, with some ginseng and jujubes and I appreciate that the chicken wasn't cooked to the point the bones were all over the soup but the it definitely lacked effort, especially for the price that was higher than most restaurants. (didn't come with rice either)

Had a little bit of my friend's tofu stew (순두부 찌개) and it was alright, quite good serving size with decent amount of tofus and veggies though soup could use more kick.

The side dishes were all good, especially the beansprouts as it passed the checklist of not smelling like wet mop ( like many other restaurants).

Overall, a decent Korean eatery which could use some more effort. They're famous for the chuncheon chicken so if I do come back, it'll be for that.

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle.

Such a good restaurant I've been. All foods are good and they are not too expensive. You guys should come and try it once. I'm sure you will have a love meal here.

The second time I have been here. Fairly big meal of the chuncheong spicy chicken (small size $40 adding Rice cake $5 and seaweed $5). Best Chuncheong in Melbourne.

I’ve been here for many times. Lovely cozy place for some comfy Korean food. Spicy chicken is a must try. Steamed Egg on side is very interesting.
Decided to check out Yami Yami for an early dinner on a Saturday night. It was very quiet when we came in. The service was quite fast, and you get the staff’s attention by pressing the button on your table.

We went for the Chuncheon Spicy Chicken Set ($65) and a Kimchi Fried Rice with Creamy Garlic Sauce. The Chuncheon Spicy Chicken came in a HUGE hot pan, and the portion was large enough to serve at least 4 people. It had extras like ramyeon, egg and dumplings, which were all delicious. I loved all the variety - my favourite was probably the sweet potato! The spice level was just right for me too.

The set also came with a fluffy steamed egg, which was perfect for the cold winter night.

The fried rice was so delicious. The creamy garlic sauce was decadent and cheesy, and went really well with the kimchi flavours. Definitely recommend trying this!

Overall it was a pretty nice experience. Prices are pretty decent and portions are huge. Definitely come with a group to try more!

Wonderful place with delicious food and perfect service ♥,it is the perfect choice for the lunch! Seafood hotpot is so so so so so so delicious !

The shop located just beside mook ji bar in Lonsdale street. It was taste really good!! The cream on top is so thick and I like the mix version together with kimchi fried rice. Have my best version of kimchi fried rice!!!!!! The service is good and will definitely comeback!

Super tasty and creamy!!!!! The prawns are very fresh too! Will come back here to try other dishes. The service here is fast and the staffs are friendly !!!!

Yami- yami korean restaurant is located in lonsdale street besides mook ji bar restaurant. Upon my arrival, the place and the ambience was family oriented, comfortable and very welcoming. The staffs were also very friendly and attentive.

FOOD
1. Bibimbap
2. Volcano boneless chicken

Overall, the food was okay.. generous portion size, the bibimbap were full of flavours and the chicken were juicy, perfectly seasoned & deep fried, not that spicy, and crispy outside.. however there’s no element of surprise. Its just like your average korean home-cook consider the price given.

Probably next time gonna try another dish that their more specialise on.. thank you for the experience!

#BHAsFoodDiary

Initially was hesistant to try it as the storefront looked a bit run down but when I heard they serve dakgalbi (an amazing spicy chicken dish with vegetables cooked on a stone pan) I had to try it. The dakgalbi was delicious and the "for 2"portion could easily feed 3 or 4 persons. Spicy, sweet, garlic-y and caramelized goodness
The table next door immediately ordered it when they saw ours come out. The side dishes are also good. Definitely coming back again

Service is pretty slow however the food is really good. Amazing flavours and spice. The restaurant is abit of a dive in but would recommend for the food !
Srslyfoods
The food was excellent, the staff are clearly Korean and speak Korean but all speak very good English too. The food serving sizes were just right, price is good, on the cheap to moderate side. Once we ordered, the dishes arrived quite quickly. The setting is basic but clean and simple. The meals are great, very well priced and served quickly, hot and freshly made.
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Pretty good little korean joint. Came here for lunch, had the stone bowl bibimbap and spicy pork bento. They were both really good and portion size is suitable for the size. Dinner menu looks amazing, will come back for it.

Yummy hot pot. Kimchi pancake was delicious. Service was polite and prompt. Nothing to fault! Would recommend it to anyone looking for some spicy Korean food.

I went to yami yami twice. The first time I ordered the kimchi for side dish, that’s additional 3 dollars charge. But the other table besides us ordered the kimchi as well but without charge. That’s fine. When I went to yami yami recently, the waitress told me I cannot order the kimchi for side dish, even cannot with additional charge. Can you imagine a Korean restaurant without kimchi? Yes, yami yami does.

Small but cosy place to go when you want some comfort food. Pretty busy for lunch time too.
We tried their signature Chuncheon which all the other tables seemed to be ordering.
Warning: if you can’t handle spice, avoid this at all costs.
But we absolutely loved it.
Will go back again.

Naengmyeon (냉면) or Cold Noodle Soup hunt in Melbourne during Summer! The broth is nice, cold and refreshing. They added a lil bit of chilli, but it's not spicy at all for me. There are a lot of vegies in it, half of a hard-boiled egg BUT unfortunately there is no meat at all for the price. Service is ok, the lady could be more friendly, she seems annoyed when I asked for side dish.

Price: $17 + $0.50 credit card surcharge.

We haven’t had korean spicy chicken (bul dak) for a while so we decided to go to Yami Yami to get some. We’ve been here a couple of times in the past and it’s so good back then. This time we felt it’s a bit so so. The portion was still generous however it’s a bit bland in taste. The complimentary egg stew was actually better than our main meal. Not sure if the owner or the management has changed, but it’s definitely no longer the same Yami Yami we knew several years ago.
Melody
Ordered from here twice. Both times, very average. The spicy cold noodles the first time, had little sauce, not enough to coat even a fraction of the noodles. The second time, the japchae was very plain - flavourless and with a couple of pieces of beef. For $16 it was not worth it at all.

Would I be back? Probably not.
Munching With Mel
Rating: 4
I finally got to try out this big stone pan filled with everything I love to get at any Korean restaurant: chicken, cheese, rice cakes, ramyeon, egg covered with sweet and not-too-spicy tteokbokki sauce! It’s something similar to what Koreans call Dakgalbi, which can’t be found anywhere in Melbourne besides this spot I searched up. It is beyond delicious, and can be shared between 5-6 people even if it says for 3 portions. We even ordered seafood pancake which was delicious and good for its price. The special soy sauce complimented the crispy pancake, with the perfectly cooked squid. The spicy cold noodles were pretty good too, but slightly bland. However the meat inside was juicy, i think it was bulgogi. Vibes were nice, and this will become my number one spot to chill!
HildaLuv2Eat
Ordered their signature chuncheon spicy chicken with additional small fried rice and chewy noodles for three people to share, the portion was generous so that it fully fed our happy stomachs. Everything was served in a heated-up sizzling pan, the smell came out that made us drooling... The savory hot sauce mixed well with the chicken, onion, scallions, rice cake and sweet potato.... The standard spiciness was moderate but I would ask for mild next time...but its yum overall. Side dishes with complementary steamed egg are always the bright side of Korean meal!

I have been to this place so many times and not once I disappointed on their food. My favourite dishes from this place is:
volcano boneless chicken with cheese. I love spicy food and this dish is suit my tongue very well. There is spicy, sweet and sour taste in all over that chicken top up with cheese really amazing. Just that I hope the deep fried chicken was crispy.
Deep fried crispy tofu with special soya sauce. This one, is still my top best choice tofu in Melbourne. I really enjoy everytime i eating this. Tofu skin was crispy, inside is soft, accompanied with bonito flakes and special sauce which is quiet savoury salty and sweet combined well together.
Pork kimchi tofu. Very well stir fry pork slice with kimchi and serve with fresh soft tofu.
I truly enjoy everytime dine in this place, just sometime the table sitting was quiet narrow and packed. Rather than that, absolutely turn my hungry tummy to fully tummy. 👍
Vanessa
I come here solely for the whole chicken shabu shabu (hot pot). It’s worth the $45 because the portion size is more than generous and it’s just plain delicious. There’s also something about that flavour in the dipping sauce that’s so addictive. Unlike other restaurants, this one give you a bowl’s worth of its dipping sauce. Wowsers! The only thing lacking at this restaurant is the atmosphere. There’s nothing warm or inviting about it… The interior space is narrow with little to no decoration and dull-coloured walls and furniture. At least, if you’re into K-pop songs, you’ll enjoy the music playing the background. Still, service is good and staff are friendly. I’ll still come here for the shabu shabu. If you’re eating it between two people, there’s no need to order anything else (e.g. rice) as this will guarantee to fill you right up!

** Update 21/4/2019: There’s no more shabu shabu (Whole chicken hot pot) sold here. Although the poster ads for it still remain plastered on the front of the restaurant. We tried the beef slice hot pot and it was pretty average. You can pretty much eat this at any Korean restaurant. So nothing out of the ordinary here. Still a good variety of food but I won’t be back as other places do offer same if not better quality of food. **Note: No split bills. 1.5% surcharge on card.

Food was great, service just okay. Just heads up, we needed to order 1 main dish for each person (so 6 mains for 6 people) and that was not cool. Since some of us had eaten before, so we hoped we could share, but the staff insisted that it’s the rule. So we took away some of the food at the end. However, if you don’t mind feasting, the food is delicious.

Seafood pot, spicy chicken bulgogi .
Friendly staff and nice food.
10% off with cash payment.
Make the rainy day ‘shiny’.
The seafood pot is not like other restaurant’s, it indeed is full of Seafood: crab, shrimp, octopus, mussels...
Love this place a lot!
$ 50 roughly for two
Mustard
Korean restaurant with a sprinkle of Japanese dishes, it has your usual Korean fare. Admittedly I wanted to go next door but it was full so we fell back onto this place.

The kimchi pancake we ordered was a bit too soggy for my liking and fell apart too easily. Decent flavour though. We also got tteokbokki which was pimped up with mandu, fish cake, ramen and eggs. It was definitely spicier than usual and I was cracking a bit of a sweat. That however didn't prepare me for the next dish, spicy galbi jjim which is beef short ribs with cheese and other little assortments. Beef was firm, noodles, rice cake and vegetables all absorbed the spicy sauce. My stomach was burning the whole night haha!

Decent feed and easy on the wallet.
NoCapsicumPlease
I was really full when leaving this restaurant. Loved their chicken and the corn cheese. It will be mu choice for next time when I crave for some fried chicken
Spinning Round Horse Kick
Have been here many times, every time the must-order dish is the fried chicken wing. Really crowded during lunch time period, and they also offer some yummy-cheap lunch boxes.

Been frequenting here a lot. Big shoes to fill being just next to Mook Ji Bar which the food is extremely good. Nevertheless, Yami Yami has a few outstanding dishes that the wifey and I just keep coming back to.

Definitely go for the Japchae, the glass potato noodles really hits the spot in savouryness and sweetness and a further kick to join it with the sour kimchi, explosive flavours in the mouth.

Another dish is the kimchi or seafood pancake. So far its been consistently crispy on the outside while nice and soft on the inside.

We had the fried chicken and the soups, both decent but the two dishes above are the highlight which I think they've got it just right for us to keep coming back for.

Rating 3.5/5
Service ★★★
Food ★★★★
Ambience ★★★

Been wanting to try here for so long and finally we did. The spicy sauce chicken and chicken bulgogi is just delicious.

Friendly and welcoming staffs too!

So glad we came here!

Good but not amazing.
We came as a group of 3 on a weekday and got the Chuncheon Chicken + medium fried rice. It was very filling, but I do wish the sauce was spicier and there was more meat & rice cake content compared to the cabbage.
All in all, a safe bet for Korean food.
Me and my housemate decided to try this restaurant for our dinner through uber eats and suprisingly it becomes our fav korean restaurant now!

Ordered japchae noodle, kimchi pancake and kimchi jjigae and they're all like soooo good. Definitely worth for the price. The kimchi jjigae came with a rice bento (which is really nice) and the soup tastes really nice! The kimchi pancake was very good too, you can feel the kimchi as it is a big cut in it and soo fresh. The japchae was nice as well, they gave a good amount of some vegs, beefs and mushrooms on it. Definitely a worth-to-try restaurant!💕💕
InnerWestWayne
Another bar restaurant that fills the "no mystery" catagory. K food, within the realms of price reasonability, it's open late and it's Got a big restaurant. If you're on Lonsdale st and want some KFC. Don't sleep on Yami Yami.
Gee
Another Korean joint to try out. The spring onion pancake is delish. Beef bulgogi sounds good on the menu but I found it a bit boring and lacking any sauce for the plain rice. Finally, the garlic and cream fried rice with prawns lacked any tang. Glad I came, but prob not for seconds.

Been coming here few times now and last time we were here, we order the spicy BBQ cheese chicken, teriyaki chicken and spicy sizzling baby octopus and squid.

Their mains comes with steam rice and the price and portion size is good. The taste is good and consistent, and service is ok too.

chunchuan chicken is my favorite
seafood pancake is also recommended with special sauce
Korean traditional and classic dishes here is Actually yammy~

Celebrating after a mid sem exam here was a decent choice! Shattered there wasn't corn cheese here but regardless, the boneless chicken with cheese (opting for less spiciness of course for me) was scrumptious! Only wished there was more cheese for us cheesy lovers and that the cheese be melted fully. Beef bibimbap was delicious, being extra getting the hotpot for that rice crunch at the bottom! Service was good and the place had a reasonable setting and interior.

The staff are very nice but i was disapointed of food, it was just too oily. The fried chicken with ddok menu have too much flour coated on the chicken, the chicken was very little for the price. The seafood pancake also very oily and way too soft. Overall i would not reccondmend these menu.

I often wait for my bus outside this place and I can't help but step inside for food. Spicy chicken is delicious, chicken bulgogi is delicious, japchae is delicious! The waiters are usually pretty friendly too :)

Soo yummy!! We had Spicy chicken and kimchi soup, we're very enjoy it and happy with the food. I would go back again for sure and being friends to know it, thanks!

This restaurant is rediculous! It forces you to order more food than you can eat. The waiter says you have to order the same number or more main food dishes than the number of people. I'm not sure if this is legal. The attitude is bad as well and no one seems to care. Not to mention their food is over-priced.
Sweet_tooth_bo_boo
Been there with my bf.

I like their fried chicken coz its quite spicy. Chicken was easy to eat. My bf like their tofu but for me i feel like the sauce wasn't enough. The rice stick with noodles wasnt as nice as i expected.

😔😔😔

I went here as part of a Meetup group tonight. I wasn't too excited about coming here because I've been to Yami Yami in Box Hill and I found the food and the service to be ok but nothing great. I'm glad I came to this one though. There was quite a bit of indecisiveness amongst the group when deciding what to eat. There were a couple of groups of people sharing things, I personally ordered Japchae but I did get to try some of the other things. The japchae was delicious and less oily than ones I've had in the past, the only downside of a less oily japchae is that the noodles tend to stick together more. I liked that this one had more beef than others I've had too. I tried some of the beef bulgogi in spicy soup, that was yummy. There were a couple of groups sharing the Chuncheon spicy chicken and they were huge servings. I tried some and I thought it was delicious and I liked the spice but I found the flavour to be too strong, I wouldn't be able to eat much of it, someone on my table said you really need rice 🍚 with it to cut down the flavour. My favourite part of the Chuncheon spicy chicken was the rice cakes, there were really soft and nice. I thought the service here was mostly good, there was a bit of confusion when we ordered and people had to move around so things had to be moved and I had to ask for my serviette and chopsticks. The people working here were very nice. I'd like to come here again but I'm lazy and I don't go to the city much. I might try the japchae at the Box Hill Yami Yami and see if I like it as much as this one.
Minhyung Bae
Yami Yami definitely had a variety of menu to choose from. Between 4 people, we ordered the "Chuncheon Spicy Chicken for Three" and the "Seafood Pancake" but the proportions were very generous so we ended up not being able to finish everything. The leftovers were available for take away which was a bonus for us. The pancake seemed a little undercooked and the prices were a little on the pricier side for us - students, but other than that it was delicious!
Ceon Ho
Nice food, especially the spicy cheese chicken. 1 portion Enough for 2 pax, great value and environment is good .i really love the cheesy chicken with steam rice, perfect match

Quick and cheap Korean food that you can find around the CBD. My friend and I ordered 2 dishes and it was more than enough to feed us that we had to get take away. Both dishes were delicious.

Came here for lunch with a friend on Thursday at 12noon. We were the first people there as the place had only just opened for lunch. We ordered the standard Chuncheon spicy chicken for two (but in reality can be shared by 3-4 people) which comes with a stone pot of steamed eggs and side dishes. I ordered rice since there was no way I was going to eat that on its own and it was really good. Spicy but bearable. I love how there was the rice cakes and sweet potatoes and vegetables mixed in together. Ideally I would like more vegies and rice cakes and a little less chicken, but that's just me. I love my vegetables, so next time it might be worthwhile to add in some of the additional extras they have e.g. ramen noodles, more vegies, rice cake, cheese etc..

We didn't have to wait for long. When it comes to paying though, they do take card but there's a 3% surcharge. So keep that in mind.
Tiana
I ordered a chuncheon spicy chicken, which can be shared by 3 people. Tastes good and I love sweet potatoes inside best. Chicken tastes a little bit dry though.

Go-to place for quick lunch or dinner. I always order their kimchi soup with rice, rarely tried their other dishes. This time, I've decided to order their kimchi pancake, seafood hotpot and japjae. Portion is huge and service is relatively fast too.
Cherry Tanuwijaya
i only order the bibimbap and its actually taste good, they give the bibimbap with miso soup also , the price is not too pricey either and big portion , but i cant order the lunch menu for dinner too bad

The customer service is appalling because you don't get any. The staff are inflexible and most of all Non committal to customer service. I asked for a dish and to omit the green salad. I ended up with green salad 3 times that evening on the same dish. When I went a bit further by asking for some of the pickled beans sprouts instead of the green salad,I was bluntly rejected as it was an impossible swap. The staff basically do not give the time or want to listen to a customer request and then they blamed they did not understand English as well as the restaurant was too loud to hear my requests !? Anyhow - for a restaurant - they are pretty stingy and stuck in their 'ways' My advice is don't go there if you want a bit of decent service - plenty more nicer Korean places in the city than his Lonsdale street joint!

Can't really go wrong with their food.

Quick, consistent and tasty at $12 for their Bento box, just warm up the Gyoza and Rice please.

Box Hill cousin is presenting it a tad better.

My friends and I went there to eat lunch. I have heard its fried chicken wings are pretty good. We ordered and ate it. The chicken wings taste normal, maybe because we ordered not spicy one. The lunch box is great, the beef tastes good. I really like the sweat potatoes, although they are just two pieces.

Service : The staff has no smile at all, which for me is a big big big mistake for this restaurant. You should traid them better, man.

Food : It was horrible. I ordered Mandu (pork dumpling), and they taste weird. While my pork sausage soup is even weirder.

Will not come back anymore.

Big portion of korean food. We (2 people) ordered 2 main meals and still have plenty of leftovers afterwards. I expected the spicy chicken to be spicy, but they're not. Nonetheless, taste was good. Service was also okay - fast and polite, the restaurant was not overly packed at the time and so they don't rush to clean our plates.

Came here with my friend yesterday afternoon, where we were seated quite promptly. My friend had been here before and suggested the chicken cheese bulgogi, but since she couldn't finish it last time and it was at an odd meal time, 3pm, we decided to share the smaller portion that would still fill us up anyway and perhaps get an entree on the side.

To our dismay, we were informed that we had to order a minimum of two main meals. We weren't going to be able to finish it anyway so we apologised and decided to promptly leave. Despite not causing any trouble, the waitress was especially rude, making faces as we were preparing to leave. The waitress couldn't speak English, which isn't a problem, but we tried our best to understand her nonetheless and were quite understanding, so the attitude was clearly unnecessary. Didn't get to try the food, but definitely wont come here again.

The food was badly presented and most importantly, the portion of my order isn't really worth for 14 dollars! They gave tiny food that just doesn't paid off the money! The whole mince beef i've got didn't really count for even one piece of beef you normally get from a Chinese restaurant, not even a tablespoon of mince beef! Whats worse, services is bad as well, manager isn't helpful and didn't really value customer, simply took over my food and told me to cancel, no make up plan at all, no apology. An extremely awful experience for me:(. Wouldn't recommend people for a good value food.

Went there on Thursday night with a friend for a last minute get together to celebrate my birthday. And the service or I should say, more like the way they handle the customers are really poor.

Such a shame because their food was actually alright. And the price was also ok. We arrived at 8.20 pm. It is a little late, the other place we wanted to go in was pack. This place will be closing at 10.30 to 11pm and we thought we got plenty of time. Anyhow we ordered the soup. Actually tasted really nice and great. Side dishes not so good though.

Another two tables left around 9.40pm
Then suddenly around 9.45 pm the waiter came and told us that they are closing so .. (that's it. Ended with so..) I was like, oh that's alright I guess (normally you would get 10-15 mins) but he then stood there and said.. "now. We are closing now." we were shocked.

He then said the kitchen made a call to close early tonight (what the heck). He's really sorry. But I was just really disappointed it. They chased us out like dogs. We didn't even have time to eat another bite!! What the hell guys.

What can I say, i was not a fan of Yami Yami. I had a terrible service experience, the waitress got my order wrong TWICE and also forgot one of the dishes that I had ordered so we had to wait longer for that. The rice in the bibimbap was overly soggy, the kimchi jigae left little to be desired and the fried spicy chicken for $33.00 was way overpriced as it just tasted like chicken in ketchup, the side dishes were not amazing by any means. They couldnt even leave the bibimbap sauce for us at our table, we had to share it amongst 3 other tables. For the price of the bill I was better off heading down a few stores to Oriental Spoon.

Foods: 3.5/5
Must try:
Kimchi Jjige (kimchi and pork) and Sundibu Jjige (seafood and soft tofu)

Service is standard, 2.5/5.

The food was good and great in taste. I love their tubbokki. It is really traditional and delicious. The price is acceptable. However, the staff was horrible. I went there so many times and the last time i went was on the Fri night with group of friends (which i introduce them to try this restaurant out). We did not have our side dishes, so i remind one of the staff to bring us some. The girl told me with horrible attitude that our dishes does not come with side dishes?!?! what??? All Korean restaurant always give us side dishes like kimchi and some small their vege. And i have been this restaurant a lot for the past 3 months. I and my friends had very bad experiences on their service. Very horrible service.

Loved the chuncheon spicy chicken! Just like what we had in Seoul. We loved it! But please do train the wait staff to be nicer: that's the only negative and hence rating down. But apart from that great comfort food. Their fried chicken is yummy too!

Their spicy fries chicken with cheese is amazing. Huge portion, make sure you do share. Any of their spicy chicken with cheese menu are recommended.

Don't be deceived by the restaurant's ordinary fitout - it is a great place to get your fix of Korean food, with the menu offering a broad selection of dishes. While the food was delicious, it does not hold its own against other Korean restaurants in the CBD. However, the agedashi tofu is delicious here due to the sauce used. The service is great, with each table having a buzzer which allows you to call the waiter when needed.

I wonder why another k-restaurant next door is more swarm compared with yami-yami cause i think yami yami provides the kind of warm feeling within their foods. Im not really satisfied with their sukiyaki with that price but love the LA Galbi, tasty and well seasoned.

The food tastes quite ordinary. Love the cold noodle though. Customer service was pretty nice and timely. The dumplings are too oily and not crunchy.
Sweet And Sour Fork
As far as Korean food goes, Yami Yami is pretty decent. Though not the tastiest I’ve had, the portions are generous and the pricing good. And let’s face it – I can totally see myself coming back for the chuncheon chicken.
FOOD TRIP
Delicious soup with all the usual suspects - Kimchi, Veggies, Fermented Soybeans, Tofu, Spam, Sausage. Perfect to eat with rice. 8.8/10. Compulsory Korean Side Dishes. Noodles to add at own discretion . Spicy Chicken with Cheese. Has a hint of spiciness. Tender pieces of marinated chicken with generous topping of cheese. 8.5/10

Ridiculous Policy. I can't speak for the food itself, because we didn't get to try any of it.

They had a policy of a minimum of 1 main dish per person (and some of our group weren't hungry) so refused to serve us unless we met the minimum. We ended up leaving.

The place was half-empty and it was lunchtime on a weekday. It made no sense whatsoever. And with the virtually identical Mook Ji restaurant only a couple of doors down, and packed too, it was clear to see how Yami Yami is directly contributing to its loss of customers.

What a stupid policy choice for Yami Yami!

I found that many customers were eating that so we decided to order the dish with additional cheese and ...

When people say dont judge by book cover. We were a bit reluctant to go in as the atmosphere of the restaurant didnt apeal, but the food was surprising. I had trouble finding authentic korean restaurant but this time it really came out great. The spicy rib was awesome. So was fried chicken. I would not choose this restaurant for fine dining or introducing korean food to my friends, as the set-up can be crappy and food court-like. Service wasnt that great. the girls just leave the plates on the table without saying anything. Definitely coming back for a quick lunch though..

Rude female waiter.. The food is good, this is the third time i come here. Today 21/12, i go with my 2 friends for dinner, the food was good but the service ruins the day, i can forgive if the restaurant is busy but unfortunately it's not. First, the female waiter just threw the menu on the table and walked away, then when we were still in the middle of eating, she gave us a receipt although we didn't ask for it. There's no water like Mook ji bar until you ask for it, she shows us a clear attitude that she wants is to go by cleaning our dishes really loud, 3 of us felt disappointed and never come back again.
The male waiter is so nice who serves us water and have a nice smile, thank you for that.
You can teach them skill but you can't teach them their attitude.

GREAT FOOD! Great service!! BUT I feel sorry for the waiters. There's not enough of them during peak hour. They were flusted trying to attend to everyone!!

Wow!!! Food here is great. I love my Korean food and this place has shot up to the top of my list for authentic Korean cuisine.

Ambience is quite stuffy and service is lacking sometimes but the food makes up for it! Had the budae jigae and it was great :) the portion is enough to feed 3 people comfortably and is slightly pricier compared to other Korean restaurants that serve the same stew. Would come back again for the chicken!

Still my favourite Korean place to go. I discovered this restaurant through a friend and since then lets say all my friends have recommended it to their friends and so on.
Visually its not bad, the atmosphere is great and at times the music can really put you in the mood.
Of all the korean restaurants Ive been to this is obviously the place to go for me and my friends.
The foods great, the taste is fantastic and they're chuncheon dalkgalbi is way better than what I would get served back in Korea.
The prices generally seem unreasonable until you see the serving, unfortunately we continuously make the repetitve mistake of buying separate dishes which leads to take aways in the end.
I generally love this place and have yet to find faults with it

Will come back. Visited Yami Yami a month or two back. After trying a couple of korean restaurants along this street, I still prefer Yami Yami.

The staff here are the most attentive. For the price you pay, you gets lots of meat especially for the beef bulgogi. Definitely has high value! Will come again!

This place is absolutely the best korean restaurant in melbourne, I just dont understand why it is so underrated.

Every dishes are a demonstration of what true, authentic korean food looks and tastes like. Very generous portion, reasonable price and great customer service. What else can you expect?

Compared to other korean restaurants that compromised their quality with msg, the ingredients are perfectly fresh and some of the amazing spicy dishes are just so addictive that I find myself hard to forget.

Simply try the chuncheon spicy chicken with extra cheese, noodle (fried rice as a finale is a must!) And you'll quickly understand that I did not make any overstatement.:)

Good food good price. The spicy pork and squid was fantastic. Juicy pork belly with nice tangy squid, coupled with spicy sauce which gives it a punch. Generous portion of cabbage n sprouts n onions, sweetening the whole dish. The spicy chicken wings are the juiciest wings perhaps due to the crispy batter.
Was there looking for another korean restaurant due to the good review on urban spoon but it was closed that afternoon, so this restaurant was really a pleasant surprise for me before I make my way to Sydney.
Thought of giving this restaurant a review since i started this account for a horrible restaurant.

Their spicy pork belly with squid is great!

Fantastic place for some 'spicy' training with their chuncheon chicken...and it pairs perfectly well with their seafood pancake!
