Review Famous Hot Pot - Melbourne

2nd visit as we were quite impressed with our first visit. The closing staff there are more excited about cooking their own meat for dinner than bringing a takeaway container that we ended up not getting after 10 minutes of waiting. 2 steamed rice ordered, 1 brought out, told us another one would be ready in 5 minutes. Never got the 2nd one, not that they seemed to be aware of it. Paid $3.8 for the sauce per head, half of the sauce containers were empty, never seemed to want to refill them. Mixed veggies were not washed, which the waiter admitted and brought us a new basket full of veggies. Veggies didn’t look happy, more on the verge of going off. The soup base was good though. Spicy clay fish was not spicy and over cooked. Probably the smallest scampis you can get out there. There are millions of hot pot places near them or in Melbourne cbd that would feed you well at the same or cheaper price. Never going back.

Famous Hot Pot - Chinatown, Melbourne All you can eat barbecue and Hot Pot I do believe the most fun you can have at a restaurant, with a group of friends is over a boiling cauldron of broth, or in this instance two broths. For my second visit to Famous Hot Pot it is nighttime on a balmy spring Melbourne evening. I meet up with my 2 friends, or as they are now known - Broth-ers, 2 friends that share a love for Broth. Hello @bensonaus + @foodclubau. Famous Hot Pot have thrown down the absolute challenge to us, All you can eat hot pot AND wait for it… barbecue as well. We couldn’t wait any longer to dig in and that’s when the madness started, Our absolutely amazing waiter ‘Sheldon’ brought out a myriad of ingredients for the hot pot and for the barbecue. There was a mountain of seafood, cuts of beef, lamb & pork, vegetables, mushrooms of all variety. The ingredients just didn’t stop coming out, they were all fresh + they were all delicious. We were working with a Sichuan hot pot base and a drunken chicken base, two fantastic options. The drunken chicken base had a large amount of chicken bones simmering away throughout the evening while the sichuan base had all the right kick to it and by the end of the night the broth had a depth to it which was unbeatable - the result of simmering ingredients throughout the evening. I’m focusing on the hot pot here because we are a soup blog but don’t let that detract from the absolute mastery of our good friend Sheldon on the barbecue, while we were dipping away at the broth the guy had gone and cooked up some cheesy enoki mushroom and cheesy sausages, Sheldon - you’re magic! It was all delicious. If you come here, make sure you bring friends. This is A LOT of food, it’s non stop and unrelenting but good food is about experiencing variety and the variety on offer for this hot pot buffet was plentiful and delicious. I’ll be back, i’ll be back with friends - I’ll be back to try and conquer this all you can eat once again. Delicious. 🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢 Broth Flavour: 🍜🍜🍜🍜.5/5 Soup ingredients: 🍜🍜🍜🍜.5/5 Service: 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜/5 Overall: 🍜🍜🍜🍜.75/5 🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢 More reviews on Instagram @soupfluencer

Went here with 5 others and decided to go with the $38.80 hotpot buffet. Chose 3 broths - drunken chicken (had that interesting shaoxing wine flavour, plus a friend who's had this before in other Asian countries endorsed the authenticity of this soup base), mushroom and the hot & spicy (it was pretty spicy). I'd recommend you pick a few ingredients and order more as you go because they will charge you for any food that isn't consumed (per grams), plus service is pretty quick anyway. There's plenty of options for ingredients to fit everyone's individual taste. They don't seem to add the same broth type separately for a top up, instead they just top it up front the same container for all three soup bases. There's a credit card surcharge so bring enough cash. Not sure I'd say it's worth the price for someone who can't eat much like me and the type of ingredients you get comparatively, but I guess it complements with the large variety and special experience.

Great service and quality food. the floor manager on duty was fast and efficient. She suggested we do the 3 flavour option as we had > 4 people. Got the hot n spicy, mushroom and drunken chicken. My fav would definitely be the drunken chicken. The rice wine was awesome with everything! We got the buffet. It's pretty good when u compare what you get with others offering the same. See the pics. WIR? Yep! Oh to the dude who got stood up.. sorry man. But hey you deserve better! To the chick who did the standing!! Come on you could've at least stayed to for a free feed!! The hot pot was great btw!!

Food is good. Customer service needs work. Every time I talked to the waitress it was like I was bothering her. It also takes a while for someone to come over and take drink orders and even longer for them to bring it to your table.

A whole new something to try. For a minimal $38 per head for 2 you get 1 soup base if you have larger groups you can pick up to 3 bases, we had satay, plus a meat tray per person. The big pot is sat on a cook plate in front if you and simmers. Then you can add any of the hundreds of ingredients and you can just keep going back to add more to your simmering soup base, from prawns to seafood balls, from bok choy to silken mushrooms, ducks blood to squid and bamboo shoots. There's also an array of addatives like crushed garlic, chilli and other sauces. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options too. They top up your soup base at least once. Then there's soft serve ice cream or you can pay extra for stuff off the menu including desserts.

Very suitable place to have meals during winter. They have delicious soup base to cook your food, unfortunately it's confusing how they charge for chili and other dipping sauces.

Our family pleasantly enjoyed the dinner at the restaurant on Wednesday this week. Walked past the restaurant and quickly greeted by the manager. So we decided to dine in! Famous hotpot is one of the best hot pot located in Melbourne. The base is just amazing, you can choose from a range pending your taste! Thanks for recommending the double favour soup base to us! All the staffs members are very attentive and patient with excellent service! 5 star
