Review Bourke & Wills - Melbourne

Warren Tate Speaker Coach
I was recommended this place for great coffee. When I arrived I thought the line to order was ridiculous yet it must be good. I guess the wait dampened my enthusiasm for the coffee - a double shot should be powerful in its flavour. It was not what I expected. There is plenty of seating inside with modern decor and the menu looks inviting. I think there are many choices for great coffee In Melbourne - if you are in a hurry there maybe better options.

I have discovered Lt. Osteria months ago and since I have always been a big fan of this place 🙂. I come here quite often, not only for their beautiful food and coffee, but also for the lovely people who work here, their are just wonderful each time 😍. Today I had their Dukkah Eggs, which it arrived at the table in under 10 minutes (during peak lunch time in the heart of the CBD). The dish was perfectly cooked, well executed and delivered lots of flavours that made my tastebuds giggle😋. Their espresso was perfectly extracted from their stunning white eagle and their smiley barista, just the right way to finish a gorgeous meal 👌 Thank you for having me - Must

Lt.Osteria by name and osteria by nature, this cafe carefully captures the essence of what a modern cafe should be. Offering great coffee and a fine range of breakfast/brunch items it is definitely worth a try.

Attentive staff and very tasty food, although place was pretty much full of people, it did not take too long to get the food served.. Only disappointment I had was that the omelet I've ordered was served with cherry tomatoes rather than heirloom tomatoes as the menu described, that did not make the dish any less tasty but it should have fitted its description..

Great coffee selection and meets the standard of "Melbourne" coffee. They use reverence beans, I am a huge fan and the staff are friendly and work quickly. Great place for a team meeting, morning brew or something to eat.

Lt Osteria is a great breakfast place. The quality of Food is exceptional at breakfast places. Service is good and the coffee is some of the best in the CBD as evidenced by the long ques waiting for take away.

Our go-to place if going out for lunch currently. Quick and attentive service to suit the time limitations. I always ring to reserve my favourite table, and they are always happy to accommodate. Point of difference to me is perfect lunch time portions, rather than food falling off the plate.

Excellent food and terrific coffee. A great place to grab a meal without being too busy.

Bourke and wills js your typical office crowd-targeting cafe. They sell coffee, an array of sandwiches and also juice / smoothies. I never thought I would see the day that I would order a juice in a cafe but 35 degrees weather really does things to you.<br/><br/>The orange juice I ordered was really refreshing and not too sweet. Suspect it costs $4 which was the best money spent all day after sweating in this weather. I was still thirsty after though. <br/><br/>The crispy chicken in my sandwich was not very crispy anymore. While the flavour was there, I found the bread a bit thick and doughy. Would still come back because of it’s convenient location and diverse choices, but i would also manage my expectations.

Based on service and coffee<br/><br/>Coffee 3/5 - start with the good. Coffee itself was decent. Good temperature on the milk for my cappuccino with a good amount of foam and chocolate dust. Espresso wasnt too strong on its own, so if you do enjoy a softer blend, their coffee is good. <br/><br/>Service 2/5 - Close to 1 even but the barista that made my coffee did a good job. Overall was not impressed with the service. While I did order through the Ritual app, I didnt click send yet as I wanted to use my reusable cup. So when I entered the cafe, I went up to the server and asked if how to proceed (if I need to press the send button and just give her my cup or can I scan my card there). While they just opened, and i understand that she was trying to organize the food items on display, as a customer I felt like it wouldve been nice if she could assist me first. Instead, she told me to walk to the machine myself and scan my card, but I had to do it behind the counter (ie. where only staff is allowed). Feeling confused, I stood there motionless, and she just kept on repeating that my order didnt go through so she cant help me. When it did come through, she simply went "there, it went through" and didnt necessarily treat me with respect. Quite disappointed as I felt like I wasnt even being served. There were quite a few staff members on site too, so I didnt understand why she couldnt help me. <br/><br/>May come back to try their food, but if service is like this a second time, I dont think I'll come back.

A trusty cafe in the CBD that I can always rely on to deliver great coffee when I'm in a hurry. It's a large, open space with neat, modern fittings but it can be difficult to get a table during peak times as this place fills up with corporate types pretty quickly.<br/><br/>There is a great assortment of pre made sandwiches, salads, cakes and pastries; and really is the place to come for takeaway as the staff are very familiar with people coming in for a quick coffee fix. Service is still friendly, and the atmosphere here is welcoming. Bourke and Wills is definitely worth checking out if you are in this part of town.

I found another cute little coffee shop! I love the cups 'A Yawn is a Silent Call for Coffee' The coffee was made quickly and well priced. Food menu also looks good
The Dear Luncher
Goes OK. You have to explore the concrete terrain of Goldsborough Lane for a bit to find it. Which is fitting as it's named after those two famous explorers. Geez what a sh1t dad joke. Anyhoo, the steak sanga is the only thing The Dear Luncher has consumed here. Steak sliced up which can be an ineffective serving method sometimes but it worked here. Made it fairly easy package up each each parcel of meaty sandwichy goodness. Seems like a trusted lunch venue in this part of town with lots of traffic.<br/><br/>3.5/5.

đŸ˜±Lizzie’s first impression: the food here during lunch is exceptional - not too unhealthy but still tastes good. <br/><br/>đŸ©Lizzie enjoyed: the smoothies are good but is a hit or a miss I had the reviver green smoothie and it was delicious as it has bananas in it. <br/><br/>🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: my colleague however had the bad end of the stick - a smoothie that tasted awful and couldn’t do more than the 2 sips he had at the start. <br/><br/>đŸ„‡Lizzie rates overall: a great place for lunch meals but smoothies are a hit or a miss.

Indoor and outdoor seating. Good amount of seats. The soy chai latte was smoothe and flavorful. The Chicken and avo was lightly toastesld with sliced chicken, cheese and a small amount of chicken. Not sure why half the sandwich had bacon in it.

Cant beat the value for money at this place! Lunch at $11 for 2 sides and meat and $10 burger with battered fries on Mondays. They serve the best battered fries!

R A T E: 3.7/5<br/>â˜†ćœĄCame here for 1:30pm lunch, ample seating in a brunch type place - it is not a menu on the table then order food type place! Order at the counter first! We ordered: buttermilk pancakes ($15) & avocado on toast ($??)<br/><br/>☆The good:<br/>- avocado on toast was actually very tasty and goats curd is a very nice complement; small-medium portion (perfect for ppl with small appetite like me)<br/>- clean and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere<br/><br/>☆Not so good:<br/>- had to ask to get water<br/>- toast was a bit too burnt<br/><br/>Overall, nice simple standard cafe sit-down with many seats available in an open area in beautiful goldsborough lane.
Decent Feed
A nice cafe tucked at the end of Goldsbrough lane, perfect for a catch-up whilst having a bite to eat. <br/>With so many great lunch options, it was difficult to choose, but the soft shell crab burger immediately caught my eye. Not too sure if it was my high expectations caused by the excitement and anticipation of this dish, but I left the cafe feeling somewhat disappointed in the burger. The soft shell crab had a rather fishy taste, overpowering all the other ingredients and flavours, leaving quite an unpleasant aftertaste in my mouth. Probably won’t be ordering this dish again from here anytime soon, however I’ll be back to try some of their other things on their menu.

Bourke and Wills makes a strong latte. Great flavour with nutty notes. There was no queue mid-afternoon and I got a loyalty card with a few stamps which was a bonus!

With so many options to grab a quick take away lunch during the work week , Goldsbrough Lane offers a wide choice. One of my favourites is the hot meal plate from B&W. $11 takeaway or $14 sit down gets you a choice of either lemon chicken, roast lamb, beef brisket , lamb chops or battered fish and a choice of 2 salads (which change frequently). The beef brisket is fantastic, cooked to perfection and the choice of salads a perfect match. Good value and a healthy meal option.
Me
Bourke and Wills does a great lunch deal of a main and two sides for a great price. Not only is is great value but it tastes like a roast dinner Mum would make. Great service too.<br/><br/>Coffee is a good second wave style coffee.

Today for lunch I went to this bright and cheerful cafe for lunch. It was a little unclear to where I needed to go to order but the staff where friendly and helpful. Also I couldn’t find a menu so I just ended up ordering a toasted sandwich and a chai latte.<br/><br/>The toasty was made on delicious sour dough and arrived nicely toasted and hot, unfortunately the fillings where a little on the stingy side, but the choice of bread made it a pass. The chai latte had an unusual after taste, I cant put my finger on it, perhaps it may have had nutmeg on top, I kept trying it but couldn’t decide if I liked it or disliked it.<br/><br/>KD

The coffee at Bourke and Wills has been consistently of a very high standard since they opened a few years ago. I had previously written a review about bad service, but after not being a customer for well over a year I decided to give them another go. The customer service has significantly improved. Lunch options are fantastic, hardy, fresh and healthy. Great for takeaway or a eat in.

The owner tricked me into eating in and not takeaway. According to a very obscure sign it's $3.50 extra to eat in because the portions are "larger" (they aren't larger!). By the time I realised I was pressured into paying extra - they refused to give me takeaway. Pathetic customer service. I used to come here at least twice a week. Never again!!

Had the “Classic Cheese Burger” and a strong cappucinno. The cappucinno was smooth and indeed strong as requested; it had a dark chocolatey after taste to it.<br/><br/>The “Classic Cheese Burger” consisted of a grain fed beef pattie, tomato, lettuce, red onion, american cheese, pickles and mustard sandwiched between a seeded bun; served with a side of batterred fries and a ketchup dip. The bun was soft but quite dense; the vegetables were fresh with the juicy tomato and the crisp lettuce and red onion. The beef patty was soft and meaty; don’t think it was seasoned much though so the flavour profile was really dependant on the other ingredients in the burger. The cheese was slightly melted and tasty, then there was the sweet and tangy ketchup, a few slices of mild vinegary pickles and a sharp mustard taste which was a little overpowering in some bites due to the lack of savouriness in the burger. The chips were a little over fried; some were nice and crunchy but others didn’t have that nice soft potato filling.<br/><br/>Overall it was a decent meal; the coffee was definitely the highlight; strong and flavourful with a pleasant after taste. However the “Classic Cheese Burger” was a little disappointing; it seemed to have a lot of ingredients full of flavour but the flavour profile wasn’t quite balanced and the beef patty itself did not stand out in the burger.

Went hwre for the first time today for lunch and could not fault it at all. <br/>Lunch menu was great with a wide selection to chose from. <br/>The beef brisket was tender and cooked perfectly and everything I had was fresh. <br/>Definately recommend giving it a try!

I really enjoyed my breakfast here the other day. The man serving at the counter was so lovely and funny, which made our time here great. I love the atmosphere of this cafe, it's modern and spacious and nice how it overlooks the courtyard area. The only thing that stopped me giving a 5 is that the menu was a little standard and the food wasn't amazing. They did do pretty designs on the coffee though and it was really good coffee! I will definitely be back to try the cabinet food as the raw treats looked delicious.

I come here for lunch about once a week. Great lunch time deals and good food. Tip: is they ever make lamb shanks GET IT! it's an extra $2.50 ($12.50 in total) but it was a meal I would've been happy to pay $30 for.

The coffee just doesn't taste like anything. The milk on the other hand is delicious and silky. I thought the first time maybe they were having a bad day, but the second time I tried a latte it taste the same... like milk... that's all.

We found this place while out on a girls shopping trip and it was bustling and vibrant. The staff were super friendly and there were lots of options to choose from. I especially liked the salad options and that you could select three choices for a great price. The cafe is large and spacious and very light. I would definitely come here again.

Awesome coffee and great lunch options. The burgers are so good particularly on a Monday when they're only $10 with chips. The owners are so friendly and provide outstanding customer service. A great place to bring friends. Love this place!

Place always super busy but friendly cheerful ambiance. Spacious set out and the food comes quick enough from counter or order-in. So happy. Ordered another coffee to take away with an amazing passionfruit slice. huge selection for afternoon sweets

Coffee is delicious, the choices of milk and soy which is available is fantastic.  Staff so friendly and accommodating.  Menu extensive so lots of choices.  Bright and inviting a must to drop in when in the CBD.  Paul is fantastic and Jeff & Lon the barista's pour a mean latte.  Well done guys

Epic mushroom burger and ultra friendly staff. They serve a range of single origin coffee options, one of the best batch brews I've had, and milk based coffees. They have pretty much any kind of alternative milk you could think of. The guy at the front counter is hilarious.

So great, there is nothing these guys don't do. Awesome coffee, great breakfast and lunch menus. Give one of their many burgers a go. Service is friendly. Outdoor seating also available. Love it!!

Great ambiance and location for breakfast and coffee before work!<br/>Eggs benny was quite tasty, good portions and service was quick. Only problem was the coffee. I'm more inclined to coffee made with bonsoy. Not so much the other nuttier brands.

Long time foodie, first time reviewer and i must say, great coffee at perfect temp, best way to start my morning.<br/>Service staff were bubbly and chatty enough that i even went back for lunch and was on first name basis with the owner. <br/>Dont normally spend time in city but can honestly say i have found my local now for when i do.

Good white ambience, quick service but not so good coffee! :(<br/>I had latte and although I had ordered a normal one, I felt like having a skinny version.

My daily go to Cafe for the best food and coffee in Melbourne CBD. The chicken jerk burger and beef brisket are a few of my faves. Always a bustling atmosphere, and friendly staff who get to know you by name. Highly recommend!

Details: They make an amazing breakfast here (for lunch! 😎)<br/>also have never been disappointed with my coffee! I love the combination of a late with a peanut butter protein ball 😍 (see in my picture)<br/><br/>Service: The staff are always evaporating positive vibes! It's contagious! Very quick service as well!<br/><br/>Decor: love the revamp from the old restaurant that was here! So modern and close to work! <br/><br/>

Love this "new kid on the bock"! Dropped by for a quick lunch with a friend (meeting in our usual place) and we were pleasantly surprised! The cheerful friendly crew explained the menu briefly so I tried a plate of "a little bit of almost everything please" and savoured the slow cooked, eat it with a spoon, beef and lamb and unusual side salads (there's no common garden salad here!). The guy serving insisted a few bit of chewy delicious bread would top it off - perfect for soaking up the last of the meat flavours... I was strong will and didn't have fries (no extra charge for some on the side - nice touch!). For $13 I walked out utterly content! As well as plated for eat in you can get a takeaway snack pack or a filled roll instead. So glad to have discovered this new place - I'll be back for sure!!!
