Review Taj Indian Cuisine - Melbourne

Samoa's were ok, onion baji better. Mains were tasty enough. Place was empty so was left in peace but was expected to be fussed over more. Average overall would give it another go.

Had dinner here, food is good but abit pricey. It is usually quiet so u can have a casual relaxing dinner without reservation. People are friendly and welcome u with a complementary Papadum and a green sauces. They have a wine list in the drink menu which u can order a bottle or get a glass of their house wine selection. U can also byo drink.

Went here on a Friday evening. The service was good.
Ordered just a chicken tikka. The chicken was stale and the chutney that came along was awful. Not going again.

This is our local Indian go-to! Absolutely delicious food bursting with flavour, authentic curries with the PERFECT consistency - not at all runny like a lot of other Indian places I've tried around Melbourne, and extremely reasonably priced. We always grab around $30 worth of food which always leaves us with yummy leftovers the next day. I love the Lamb Korma, chicken tikka and garlic naan the most.
The staff are so very friendly every time I go in to pick up our take-away. I feel it's a real shame that this place is not busier, people are really missing out.

I was very impressed by the atmosphere and the food. Our table had the butter chicken, lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala.Everything was excellent and the garlic naan was perfect.

Tonight I tried Taj Indian Cuisine. I was curious how it would compare to Singh's Bala Da Dhaba which is down the road. I arrived at Taj Indian at around 7 to find an empty restaurant. Singh's was busier so I wondered why is this place so quiet?

Like most Indian places we got our free entree which is the Papadums with a sauce. At most places you get two sauces, here we only got the mint green sauce. My mum had never tried Indian food before so this was her first experience eating Indian food. She really liked the sauce that came with the Papadums but I thought it lacked flavour and tasted quite different from the same type of sauces I have tried at other Indian restaurants.

The waitress was nice and provided good customer service. It did take a while to get our menus though.

My mum ordered the Chicken Masala and I ordered the Mixed Vegetable Curry. We also ordered saffron rice and garlic naan. The food took a bit to come out. I did hear the microwave a few times so I'm not sure how much of the food is just microwaved haha.

The Mixed Vegetable Curry was meant to have ginger, mixed spices and garlic but it was quite plain... I would recommend against ordering mild versions of their curries unless you cannot handle any heat since it really needed extra heat. My mum is one of those people so she didn't complain about her meal. Another thing I was disappointed about was the lack of sauce!! The curry was quite thick. I had no sauce to dip my naan bread in 😢 but don't get me started on the garlic naan though which was the biggest disappointment of the night!! It wasn't garlic naan!!! I tasted no garlic, there was no garlic on it!!! It was a plain naan!!! Why!!!! My favourite part of eating Indian food is the garlic naan and they just didn't deliver on this!

I will definitely be going back to my favourite Indian place Singh's after this experience haha.

We went for an early dinner around 5.30pm on a weekday. Since it was empty we expected good finger licking food. Order

Mutton Rogan Josh - 2.5/5 - We asked for it to be medium but it was mild. The quantity was just enough for 2 people. The dish was lacking in any spices & was very tasteless.

Plain naan - 4/5 - good fluffy naans

Garlic naan - 4/5 - it had crushed garlic & was fluffy.

Salted lassi - 4/5 - okay

I wouldn't be returning to this place anytime soon.

When I do Indian, I usually prefer the milder, less spicy menu options.

Whenever I have a craving for vegetarian, I almost always go for Taj Indian Cuisine on Malvern Road. This restaurant accommodates my intolerance for hot, spicy food, by creating mild, tasty dishes for me to enjoy.

I love their Shahi Paneer in its delicious tomato based cream sauce, their light, fluffy basmati rice and tender Lamb Korma. Their Tandoori Breads are also tasty and mix well with their curries. The restaurant usually tends to be quiet and sometimes empty, however they do have a thriving takeaway business.

Some people may comment that this Indian restaurant is somewhat bland, however for my personal tastes it's just about perfect.

Still the best Indian I've ever had in Melbourne! Once on my birthday a staff member drove down the street and got me a cake as a surprise. I love dining here the staff are beautiful and the owner always makes an effort to greet my partner and I. Five stars!

Went for a relaxed meal here with a friend and both of us were impressed with the food and service. The food also reminded me of my recent enjoyable trip in South India, so I am grateful I have found a place that will cheer me up after a difficult day at work. I would advise asking the staff for recommendations as they make good suggestions depending on your tastes. If you are in the area, I would definitely recommend stopping off for a meal here.

Very delicious food and excellent service rendered by knowledgeable staff. I got to visit due to an office dinner and all of us had a wonderful experience. We had a set menu, and though we hadn't informed the staff about our specific dietary requirements (vegetarian/non vegetarian), the staff took care of everything and we had fresh, finger-lickingly awesome food that we ended eating ate with cutlery.

The most amazing Indian old dining experience ever! The service is fantastic and curries are best.love it!

Spot on Ben. We had the butter chicken, the mango chicken and garlic naan. Ben's review (below) is spot on. Even for the garlic naan, which you think would be hard to get wrong! The ambiance was dead with low white lighting, it was brighter outside!

Bland food. Our regular takeaway of choice is currently closed for the holiday period so we chose Taj Indian Cusine based on gllowing reviews but boy did we make a bad choice! Im not sure if the majority of the reviews here are from people dining but our experience with their take away meals did not reflect it's 91% rating! We ordered lamb rogan josh & chicken tikka masalla which I have had several times from many different indian restaurants and I have to say this was the most bland version I've ever had and that's even with a request for medium hot curries! The only good thing I can say about it was the ingredients were definitely fresh but apart from that it was greatly lacking in spices & seasoning! I can only assume that their take away meals do not match their dine in ones which seems to be the case unfortunately with a lot of places these days or that they had holiday staff on but as there were no redeeming qualities of any of the 3 dishes we ordered I won't be giving this place a second chance!

As a first time customer to Taj indian restaurant we had high expectations after seeing all the good reviews.... They could not have been more wrong, not only did we receive a starter that was suppose to be onion bajies but when we opened the bag turned out to be a big mess of salty, fried and soggy onion bits. Things went from bad to worse the chicken curries which were tasteless, the chicken fatty and of very poor quality. The naans we ordered were rubbery and had a funny taste to them..... Overall a hugely disappointing meal. We won't be visiting again.

Favourite. Just returned from three weeks touring west, central, and southwest India, including some of the best hotels (Try the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur).Taj indian cuisine in malvern is SUPERB in comparison--authentic, delicate, succulent. Try chilli lime prawns and specially garlic naans!!!! you ll not find anywhere else. Yummmmmm!!!!!

“Very pleased.. Nice warm cozy atmosphere ..great food. My hubby took me to the taj for my birthday dinner, it was a good choice. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food.

For the three of use, 3 dishes, 2 serving of rice, 2 servings of naan and a coke cost a bit over $70. In summary it was more $$ than normal for Indian food, with flat flavours. Not recommended. The butter chicken we had earlier this week in the city was better.
