Altius is a cosy coffee shop located at The Archway, serving coffees and a limited selection of pastries. What they lack in quantity, they make up in quality. I had a most enjoyable almond latte here - bold, smooth, creamy and with a hint of nuttiness.
The coconut and cinnamon croissant was the perfect accompaniment to my coffee, and if only it was warmed up a bit, it would have been perfect.
The service was relaxed and friendly, and I could see regulars coming and going to get their caffeine fix. With coffee that good, it shows that sometimes all you need is to focus on doing one thing right and people will love you for it!

In a super busy part of the CBD, Altius provides respite for those needing a caffeine hit. A small cafe concentrating on the take away crowd, it has high energy and fast paced service. There are a few small areas to dine in if you choose, and the area is light, modern and clean.
Coffee is fabulous and served promptly, and we also had some delicious pastries which were flaky and tasty. With so many cafes in the CBD, Altius definitely is up there with the best for providing great coffee and service.
This place is busy for a good reason , amazing coffee , no food , just experts doing what they do best great coffee.

I have put off visiting this place for a few months considering the mixed comments. Finally I gave them a visit and noticed they had perhaps 4-5 blends on the bench. Ordered the usual latte and first impressions is I give it a tick for not being weak as this is the usual danger of trying out a new place. It's a moderate strength coffee, taste not bad but nothing pow wow to my taste buds but would be ideal for a lot of people considering my preferences are more on the bolder side. Not bitter at all but slightly thin on the milk.
Such a beautiful space with lovely staff and great coffee. This place epitomizes Melbourne coffee. Yum, highly recommended - just a tad disappointed they didn't serve almond milk.
I came across Altius by accident - what a find! There was nothing that I could fault. So, for the first time, I have to rate Altius a FIVE.
It's small and quiet but the service is first rate and the two baristers very friendly. The coffee is from Market Lane Roasters Parahan and is so well made that I think it could well be the best coffee in Melbourne.
There is a small selection of pastries to choose from, we shared a muesli biscuit that was the size of a decent muffin. It was full of seeds, raisins, coconut etc. - delicious.
Altius really deserves to be better known - there should be a queue out the door and down the street. My advice is go there NOW before everyone else discovers it.
Small cafe with some amazing minimalist interior. Love to have this cafe in my house. Water and waitress are also dressed to match the deco
I worked on a public holiday and my regular place was closed. I managed to find Altius on Instagram and was there not 10 minutes after. I had the most delicious filter coffee on ice that I have ever had and raved about it all weekend to anyone that would listen. I didn't want to write a review until I had another to compare. Monday morning came...was it as good as I remember, or was it that I was in that desperate need of a coffee that even mud water poured through a V60 would have fulfilled my craving. The answer was as I hoped. It was as good as I remember, if not better. The couple in their are absolutely lovely and are all about a chat and great coffee.

A beautiful minimalist-designed hole in the wall, with flowers and trendy mags scattered around, it is hipster paradise.
They have a small selection of cakes to try, my friend tried a massive raspberry and chocolate one which she loved. It looked so rich!
I ordered a latte and it was smoooth. Though, it did set me back $4 which seems to me to be on the pricier side. The coffee was served in a beautifully designed cup and saucer, which felt really nice to hold.
The staff are friendly and replaced my friend's coffee when she accidentally had a spill, free of charge.
It was quiet for the hour we were there, which was nice and relaxing. I would come back to read a book and sip a perfect coffee.
Chai is one of the best in town although i would recommend to ask for a strong chai 💪🏼 coffee is decent too! I am a regular ☺️
I wish you open during lockdown though. Can’t wait to come back again ☕️
Hidden gem - walking into this cafe you will notice two things: a small board selling pastries and baristas making some of the best coffee around. A must stop for coffee lovers

Best coffee in the area! Looks small, but the coffee is tasty, the pastry is delicious, the service is outstanding and the price is reasonable! Fantastic by all measurable and immeasurable criterions!
Look for the "517" sign on the street, otherwise you might miss it and be railroaded into some of the neighbouring cafes, which are no where near as good..
Perfectly made coffee!! I am very fussy when it comes to coffee and it was wonderful, perfect strength and temperature! It wasn't burnt and it wasn't weak! After receiving a really bad coffee at another place having no more hope in good coffee and coming across this place, This coffee has made my day ☺️👌🏽 And Satomi you are the best ☺️

Tucked away in an unassuming west-end corner of the CBD, Altius delivers consistently good coffee and excellent service. Owners JP & Hannah, alumni from Market Lane Coffee, seriously know how to make a good brew - strong, rich yet smooth.
Everything is beautifully minimalist. With limited seating and only small selection of pastries available, the focus here is on the coffee. Best for takeaway.
