Review Spice Nation - Melbourne

This is the best Indian food I've had in over 15 years. They got the spice level just right, everything was fresh cooked. I'm super impressed. This will be a regular take out venue for us.

I ordered a mates pack and that’s what the naan looked like. It was burnt, when I asked manager. He said he can’t do much rather than me going to them and collecting the naans again. This is a take-away order, he didn’t consider travelling again. The manager was really rude and ignorant and he did not even care about my order. He was like you can come and pick the naans. If I would have ordered these from Uber eats, I would have received 100% refund with what happened with me, it was my mistake I ordered from their website. I would not recommend ordering from this restaurant.

Spice Nation is a delivery and take away focused Indian restaurant. Yet, this is not what I'll describe as typical Indian food that we regularly eat. I ordered take away food twice from this place and once it was good and the other time it was excessively salty, oily and spicy. My concern is that the spiciness and the oiliness didn't reduce despite specifically telling the person taking the order in advance. Might be because the chef prepares single sauce once which is hard to alter. Although I would certainly recommend their super garlic naan which everyone enjoyed. This restaurant has potential and they must try to fix their recipes, specifically when an average consumer is becoming calorie savvy.

Easily my favourite takeaway restaurant - we order embarrassingly regularly from Spice Nation and have never had a single bad experience. The curries and rice are consistently flavoursome & delicious. Whenever we decide to branch out and try a different Indian place we always end up shrugging and saying it was fine but not as good as Spice Nation! Thanks so much for the delicious food :)

This place is a saviour for when you’re not in the mood to cook at home. Their Vegetarian Biryani, Samosa Chaat and Gulab Jamun are some of my favorites on the menu.

Tried paneer 65 biryani here , it was completely sticky and taste like chilly or tomato sauce , but one thing chef is good at shouting

Delicious. Great Price. Excellent Service. I had Spice Nation cater for an event recently and despite the short notice I gave them everything went very smoothly and we were very happy. Got a great deal on a bulk order and it was friendly service for the entire experience. I strongly reccomend Spice Nation for both large groups and small and their Samosas are not to be missed!

3.5
We made a reservation for 6:30pm as part of a groupon deal only to discover that unfortunately they are not currently open for dine in customers. Would have been handy if someone had advised us of this ahead of this ahead of time so we could have preordered our deal for take away. Instead we had to wait half an hour as the savvy folks got on their phones and Uber ate ahead of us.

Food wise we really enjoyed the samosas, the butter chicken, naan, rice and sweet dessert dumplings. We asked for medium heat and were surprised at how hot the spice levels were for medium. For us we would probably order mild for next time but it wasn’t an unpleasant level of heat. The butter chicken was quite chunky and chicken lovely and tender. Our other curry, the pumpkin masala was less enjoyable and part of this was due to our bad decisions in ordering (I’m unsure why KD ordered a pumpkin curry from an Indian restaurant) but pumpkin was still quite firm and there was a lot of onion chunks and it really wasn’t something we would order again... this still had plenty of flavour though.

Overall this venue is more geared to take away options and although there were a few dine in tables had we been able to do so we would have simply spent the night watching delivery drivers coming and going. Would definitely come back for take away again but dial down the spice levels. They have butter chicken samosas that I’m going to have to try.
I ordered through ubereats so it’s not an in store experience. The food is decent and flavours are good but not packing the punch I wanted it to. The naan was good and roti was ok. Both curries we ordered weren’t super generous on the meat to sauce ratio. Saffron rice looked more like food colouring was used as it was bright orange. Overall average

I visited here with my friends. The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. We especially enjoyed the Lassi and Dal Makhni with Naan was great...we'll definitely be back🙂.Loved everything!! From service to food.

I ordered 2 curries and saffron rice with Uber Eats. Also ordered 2 Naans. I liked it. The other curry I got was okay, a bit salty and I found it hard to eat but....it was edible.
....No didn't finish it. Gave it to a crow.
The Dhal Makhani was enjoyable - well made, felt like they made it from scratch. Well presented. Both curries had a good quantity, I could have shared it with someone but....I chose to eat it myself as it was 10pm at night lol.

I will dine there soon.

Loved this place! Best samosas I've had in a while. Very much enjoyed their curry too. It could do with some atmosphere in the seating area but the food is amazing. Very polite staff, though sometimes you have to be a bit more patient than others 😊.

All heat & no nuance or balance of spices. Took 100 minutes to arrive and was stone cold with warm raita & ruined pakoras. Never again.

Food was not good, customer service was worse. Tried to explain the problem, but we did not get any response from the staff. Would not try it again.

Worst chicken biryani I've ever had in my life. Too much oil.
When complained about it, owner didn't even apologise about it.
We just returned the biryani without any refund.
Please don't order anything and save your money.

Worst experience ever. Do not go to this place. Biryani was oily and horrible. Service and attitude of owner was bad too. Will never order from here again.

Initially when they opened they were pretty good. I was their regular customer. But then I guess the chef changed and the quality and taste of food went down. The curries taste sweet rather than spicy. That is the major drawback. Charging for a piece of pickle and salad which we never ordered that we thought were given complimentary to us was a big disappointment. Service is good. Managers are friendly.

The good thing about the spice nation is they are opened till late. Food is ok. Try to avoid chats. I found the taste is bit bland. Main course is good. Service is ok. That said, some items like pickle and salad were missing from the order.

This is a lovely place to have good Indian Food. They have a variety of spicy options, mild, medium, spicy and Devil’s spicy to choose from. One of the best Butter Chicken I have ever had.
Located in a small and quite place. But, love the fast service and the affordable pricing. Also, the deals the that are given to the students are appreciated. Great food and close to Deakin uni. Would love to return back and recommend to everyone Craving Indian food. Also, thumbs up to their complementary papadam serve.

Curries are very delicious and can be served as per required taste. My favourite ones are Paneer do Pyaza and Dal makhani (P.S. I am a Vegetarian so). In non-veg there are couple of good options available as well. Really enjoyed the food. Delivery was also in time. Overall really good place for your cheat day.

OUTSTANDING!!!!!
One of the Best Biryani I ever had in area.. also try Chaat here.. It will remind you off Indian Street Food
Must visit and try it out.
The saffron rice was terribly hard, almost tasted uncooked and had a strange chemical smell to it. Garlic naan was dry and had too much raw garlic paste on it. The butter chicken was nice but having only about 10 pieces of chicken for a main serve is unacceptable. Unlikely to return.

I always eat at this always and taste is always the same that I had from day one.

I was recommended by my friends . I guess this place really deserved to be recommended.
Before this, I never seen the management so friendly where they come out and talk to all their customers.

I went there last night, I was really busy and had to wait few minutes for table.
However the staff gave us a complementary Mango Lassi while we were waiting.

Food was delicious with reasonable price. The service was also quick. Guys wandering for tasty Indian Thali with nominal price must visit there.
Shanthan Rangan
Both veg and non veg Thali was good !! But the chicken biriyani was worst. Place was kind of small. Staffs was good but kind of late responsive.
2.5/5

Worst Indian food I’ve ever had. The garlic nan they serve has raw garlic paste on it, which crosses all levels of grossness! We also ordered Dal Tadka which looked like someone had diarrhoea! Go only if you have money to waste.
JKGasMan
Great Indian food here. Ordered takeaway which they delivered for free as I was within their delivery zone. Food was delicious - butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, lamb biryani, garlic naan and samosa. Extensive selection.

This place has served more than what I expected.
Authentic Indian taste, better service than previously owned “Love from India”, price wise its reasonable and serves enough quantity too. At my first visit I ordered a “standard thaali” and trust me it did not disappoint me in taste and quantity was enough to fill my tummy (though I tried hard to finish it). It’s a good escape zone for students, singles, and lazy cooks like me. Worth visiting place.
