Very reasonable prices for great value. Doesn't do anything fancy but the quality makes it special. Fresh delicious salmon rolls. Quick service, would definitely be back here again if in the area.

It's ok, the chirashi isn't worth the $14 (there is cheaper nearby) but the other food isn't bad e.g. bentos. Service is lacking too, with no one noticing that the chirashi was missing both wasabi and soy sauce. Staff didn't know how much of either to give out too (massive tub of wasabi, was going to give me 15 soy fishies) so obviously they don't eat their own food.

P.S. I just noticed from the pics my chirashi has no salmon roe either.

Great Sushi.

Been going there for a couple of years now and never had a bad Sushi Roll.

The place does look like it's in need of a major face-lift but service is always great and food is good.

A new Sushi shop has opened up near by and the entire office and moved with there feet to the new venue.

Maybe time to renovate!

My personal opinion only.

Would I go back?

YES

Late lunch on Monday arvo.. Cute Japanese cafe run by Chinese-ish people but was surprisingly good! Ordered the salmon chirashi. For $14 it was very satisfying and tasty! Love the addition of avo and the savoury sprinkles thingy. Salmon was chunky and fresh..the rice consistency, soy sauce and wasabi were absolutely spot on! Exactly how I liked them to be. Best chirashi Ive ever had in Melbourne🍣 people coming and going with take away bentos as I was eating..it was like 3.30 but people were still coming, the bentos must be good too. Would give them a try soon. Superb place for quick satisfying lunch! xox

A sushi joint which also offers hot food and a variety of other dishes. Owned by Chinese but the standard is okay. Had the mixed chirashi sushi bowl which was nice - there were four pieces of salmon and four pieces of tuna, as well as some other elements plus sushi rice. Took around 10-15 minutes for it to come even though there was only one other table of customers at that time (4pm in the afternoon is usually a quiet time for most restaurants), and the serving size was a bit smaller than I expected but the freshness and taste were good enough for that price. So I guess nothing to complain about but nothing exciting either. Not bad for a quick meal.

Not only was the Chirashi Sushi Bowl cheap, but it was also very tasty! The service here is quick and efficient, so not much to complain about!

The owner was super nice! Not table service, you have to order at the counter but the food was brought out really quick and the serving size was pretty big for a very affordable price. The only thing bad is that the udon soup is a bit too salty and it did leave me a little thirsty. However everything I ordered was delicious!

For a quick lunch UME Sushi House offers several selections in bain maries. For a reasonable price you can pick your fare with rice or noodles. I found the meals to be delicious and fresh and the bowls are large. Clean flavours with that element of crisp freshness, never soggy or tired.

WHY I LOVE EATING AT UME SUSHI HOUSE? The chirashi is impeccable each time (seriously perfect for sashimi cravings). Their wasabi cream. Price is reasonable. They give 10% discount for students!!!

The fish was fresh. The avocado was a little bit soft. I loved the rice. At least I can find a place that does rice the right way. It wasn't too warm and it wasn't too cold. I loved mixing in the toasted sesame and the crunch it brought.Yum.
Sweet And Sour Fork
Meticulously plated on a fluffy bed of softly vinegared rice, the satisfyingly thick slices of salmon weren’t leaping with freshness, but were certainly well above par. The accompanying sides were well thought out to complement the salmon, and the big scoop of sichimi was a highlight, giving the rice a crunchy, fragrant lift when mixed in.

This was one of those Chinese-operated Japanese restaurant, it was not authentic by far.

The broth was something of a disappointment. It was lacking in real flavour, being pretty much just salty.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
For a good old gossip and gross-out session, Ms P, Mr S and I had lunch at Ume Sushi House. USH is located on Lt Bourke street, which has a mellow, laneway vibe. I've been to USH twice now, and it's quite popular with the nearby office workers - the food is great and fresh. On this day, I got the unagi don (grilled eel). It was of above-average quality. A nice fillet of eel, egg roll (which had the Japanese characters imprinted on it - I loved this little touch) and pickled root veg. Quite a good serving size and price (by memory I think it was about $11). Mr S got an entree of spring rolls and a fairly decent-sized chicken curry with rice. While Ms P got katsu bento box, which was also quite a generous serve. Verdict Food - 8 Service - 7 Ambience - 8 Price - 8 Overall I quite like the food here. Definitely one of the better Japanese restaurants in the CBD. Good value, range and serving sizes! It's very easy to see why USH is popular. Also, when it's a sunny day, it's really nice to si

Nice place to have a fresh and tasty lunch, but the staff are actually Chinese.

A pending review. It is actually a chinese operated japanese restaurant, i tried their chirashi, the taste was good, however i can hardly call it chirashi as there was only one kind of fish in it. also from what i saw, there were more of chinese dishes than japanese dishes now, i wonder if they were run by japanese before and somehow they changed their manager? i will still give it a like cuz after all, the taste is not bad, and thats the spirit of eating right?

Nice. Had lunch here today and well priced for good quality food and quick service. The plastic forks are useless but then again I really should learn how to eat with chopsticks! Will be coming back when I have one of my Japanese lunch cravings.

The portion is large compared to price. Quality is not bad but it was too salty.

Great Sushi. Busy inner city sushi joint. Fresh along with hot wasabi.

I had a bento box which was all delicious. The sushi was unbelievably fresh. Definitely coming back here!

Not enough tempura. Tempura udon has quite good soup with yummy corn & seaweed topping. However serving size is not quite enough & only has 1 prawn.

Fab. Great little place for lunch. Staff are very friendly and eager to please. Food is tasty and hearty- and importantly fresh! This is a goodie!

Ume. Oyakodon is my favourite menu. fast and good! definitely will go back.

Oyakodon simply the best!. The Ume Sushi House oyakodon is the best by far I have tasted.

I take international visitors there.

Note that they tend to close at 6pm. I just rang them. It's Friday and they close at 6pm but Urban Spoon has them open for Dinner.

-----12 Feb, 2012-----

My favourite Oyakodon. The Oyakodon at Ume Sushi is my favorite by far, compared with other Japanese restaurants and cafes. I have it every time.

The Oyakodon is like a tasty chicken and egg and rice dish, with miso soup on the side. It's very good value at approximately $10 and is a generous portion.

Favourite lunch spot. Love this place. I get sushi rolls there quite often as I work nearby. The sushi seems fresher and nicer than some of the other alternatives nearby, and everything is quick and easy. Hope to try some other dishes soon.

Seafood Udon. Tasty soup, real seafood & good texture overall.

Big, fresh and satisfying.. A safe bet for lunch. Order off the photos at the back and a big bowl comes out in a few minutes. Only problem is the name - to everyone I know it's 'The Red Lantern'.
Racy_jacy
Fabulous quick lunch stop for city workers, and great for takeaway too. The sushi is made fresh, and the nori isn't chewy like so many other sushi joints. Sushi rolls are nice and large but not so big that they collapse on the first bite. Staff are particularly friendly to regulars, which is nice too!
