Review Parkside Cafe - Melbourne

Rahul Kapadia
Lovely hotel, friendly service. Location next to the lake was wonderful. The cafe next door serves excellent food.

Food was decent, a little pricey - especially given that it's next to a campus for students. But the customer service - strap in because you're in for a ride. Was dining in with a group of 6. The waiters there - manager included - extremely snobby, don't smile, give you weird looks, glares even, lack basic customer service skills such as asking for dine-in or takeaway, and make their own assumptions about your order. This by itself is not the greatest but it's tolerable. However, we had a friend leave their half eaten food to go to the bathroom, and a waiter TOOK THE FOOD (there was a very large portion left) without asking if it was okay (mind you, the rest of us were still sitting at the table) and left. We went to the chefs to tell them about this who offered to make us a new meal (they were very lovely by the way, just about the only nice staff experience we had here so props to them) but we declined and asked if the friend could get a free drink instead. Going over to the counter, we spoke to who we presumed was the manager. She curtly told us not to speak to kitchen staff 'next time' in the event this happens again, as they 'Don't know what happens on the floor'. In the first place, there shouldn't be a 'next time' - staff should be trained in how to treat customers. She also didn't seem very apologetic, and we found this quite rude. For sure, there will not be a 'next time' for us - if you want an enjoyable dining experience with staff with basic manners that don't treat you like people on the street, you might as well head to McDonalds.

Great atmosphere and great priced with fairly reasonable prices. Quick and efficient. Great customer service and such a friendly service, with smiles. The coffee and food is delightful. Definitely will be coming back.

I was told that Melbourne had the best coffee in all of Australia and Parkside did not disappoint. In an added plus, the homemade cinnamon roll reminded me of my grandma's.

This place is fine but they often close early, it's annoying to walk all the way there just to be greeted with a locked door and a shrug of the shoulders 30 mins before they say they close. It's happened more than once. Other than that the food is OK and the coffee is fine.

Great atmosphere and decent food at fairly reasonable prices, I have no complaints about Parkside at all. The sausage rolls are impeccable! Really moist inside and crisp on the outside, I definitely recommend!

The ‘Luvacado’ on the menu lives up to its name. Amazing food, great coffee and very good service.

A modern and light setting, good vibe with upbeat music. Has a nice view of Princes Park and surrounding greenery.

Great food, their smashed avo is highly recommended. Great coffee, although not super strong.

Situated in a business environment and so can be quite busy and a little noisy at times however the music keeps it under wraps. No table service.

great staff, fantastic location, meals are quick and fresh, great value for money.
plenty of options to please most on the menu.
next time in the area I would highly recommend trying this hidden gem out, grab a coffee and enjoy while chilling in the park.

atmosphere is modern, clean, relaxing

Hello fellow foodies! The menu has changed. Pros: Calamari salad (very nice)
Cons: Their Smashed avo isn't the same. Lacking feta nowadays. More Cons: There's this new brown sticky sauce they add to almost every dish? Why is it in the smashed avocado? Doesn't really work well.

I love the environment as it is located near a park where I can relax and enjoy a nice meal. The food is good. I ordered a big brekky here as breakfast meals are my favourite! 🌞 The big brekky is very filling. There’s scrambled eggs, chorizos, mushrooms, etc. and I really like how juicy is the mushroom and the scrambled eggs is cooked perfectly. The chorizos is nice too but i think it was abit too oily for me. Overall, it was a nice meal! I tried the ice latte too few months ago and it was one of my favourite ever since. ☕️

Lovely cafe with a good lunch spread. $10 gets you a choice of 6 wraps and paninis. They are huge and easily shareable. Also on offer are salads, soup and a special that rotate. The Parma is generously sized and priced at $14 which is enough for 2 people.

Breakfast menu covers the basics. The avocado smash is great with 2 eggs at $16 and you can get the eggs and bacon special with a coffee for $12. Berry muffin was a bit plain but they change up the flavours daily.

The one let down at Parkside is service or lack thereof. It is order at the bar, self serve water and cutlery is kept on the table but often empty. I understand that the staff may be too busy to give much service, but they could be a lot friendlier to patrons too. A smile goes a long way.

Staff are very nice, although the food is sub par and the coffee is no where near up to standard. Considering I could walk an extra 5-10 minutes up the road and have some of the best coffee in Melbourne these guys don't seem to be taking themselves very seriously. Also very pricey.

Had the WORST experience I’ve ever had at a cafe/restaurant. The manager/owner there is a disgrace.

I ordered the fish n chips and was shocked to be charged $17 for a take away little box.

To my dismay I opened the box and saw ¾ full of chips, a tiny bit of salad, piss poor excuse of 50C size potato cakes and 2 miniature pieces of overcooked fish. I went to the waitress to complain that I wasn’t happy and the owner waltzed over and decided to tell me off.

I know you will read this; firstly, I have every right to complain. This meal was shit, was sized shit and priced disgracefully. You don’t keep customers by abusing them.

Telling me that this is not a fish n chips shop but in fact a 1 million dollar establishment is dumb, foolish and arrogant thing to say. I couldn’t give to hoots what the price of the building is. Your restaurant isn’t worth that because its located across the road from the carlton football club

Then you arrogantly proceeded to tell me that because I was a tradie that I could afford it as I earn $400 a day. I, unfortunately, don’t earn that much and would be happy to show you my pay slip even though it’s none of your business but you’re too wrapped up in your own world to understand that.

I will never ever eat or drink from your “cafe” ever again, Id rather go without. I hope people read this and stay away.

Very nice interior. Bright, clean and nicely decorated. The service was

The food was quite reasonably priced and everyone agreed it was tasty. I found the portions of some to be a little small so I suppose the price was reasonable for the quality and amount.

The soups were nice, much needed on a cold day. I found the menu lacked a few basics though and the vegetarian options were limited (there were no salads on offer that didn't have meat).

Overall though I would return for lunch as the food was decently priced and quality and service good.

Always amazing food and service when I visit Parkside! Food cabinets always so appealing it's hard to choose what to get. Coffee great too. Highly recommend! 🙂

Stopped by for brunch with friends. We got the smashed avo and sweet potato fritters - both were really nice! Friendly staff, good looking cabinet!

Excited to try out this place and was disappointed. We were the only ones in the cafe and no one even looked or smiled our way, let alone took our coffee order or tell us that we had to order at the bar. The rest didn't get much better. Food was okay. Improve your service and place will be a hit for walkers around the park on a sunny Saturday.

Newly renovated cafe, modern and lots of natural light. Coffee break - Iced coffee in a jar - caffeine hit ⚡️ Will try something off the menu text time.

Coffee is OK but all breakfast food, while on the cheap side, is pretty crappy - they seem to change up the options occasionally but from a takeaway breakfast perspective, parkside is unappealing.
