Japanese food as an all you can eat style buffet. Yes please. Welcomed into this fun venue by lovely staff, it was clear that this concept works, as Grand Lafayette was packed with hungry diners. The large space is inviting and modern with plenty of seating and a cool atmosphere.
Beginning with the cocktail list, we ordered some fun drinks. One came served as a drip. Very theatric as the cocktail dripped from it's pouch, through a long tube into the glass. Delicious and a fun start to our dinner. We made our way through the menu and ordered a range of different options from different sections of the menu. Rather than a traditional buffet, the food that you order is brought to the table for you. We had spicy fried tuna sushi, tempura eggplant, dumplings, chicken san choy bow, bao, fried tofu and beef teriyaki. The food arrived promptly and although the serves are quite small, you can order as much and as often as you like. We found this to be plenty of food for two of us.
All the dishes were fresh and tasty. An abundance of flavour and a great way to try Japanese food. Standout dishes for me were the volcano sushi as it was lovely and spicy; the bao with it's fluffy buns, and the crispy tofu.
Overall, the service was amazing and the vibe bustling and busy. Grand Lafayette is a fun place to dine, and with it's abundance of flavour and texture, I will be back to try more of the delicious dishes on the menu.
We were kindly invited to this restaurant for a Japanese buffet. For $39.80 per person excluding drinks and dessert, this buffet is great value. The yuzu kingfish, trio of fish, salmon tataki, gyoza, kaarage and baos reallt stood out. The dishes were also beautifully presented. The beef sukiyaki was a good concept but the beef was too tough and we suggested that a fattier cut of beef be used instead and maybe cook it medium rare. The baked scallops had a delicious cheesy sauce on them that we loved. The salmon volcano maki also had good textures and flavours though the rice was a little on the mushy side. We also got to try their beautiful raindrop desserts which we loved - they were refreshing and light a perfect finish to the buffet. Service was also excellent. Thank you Grand Lafayette for your generosity!
Perfect place for all occasions. Grand Lafayette caters to all demographics with a huge variety of Japanese infusion dishes to choose from. And with an all you can eat buffet, you can try everything on the menu, and I feel like we almost did!
As we entered the restaurant, the staff member welcomed us in a friendly manner and although our booking was not found, he sat us down promptly.
It took us a bit of time to decide what to get at first because there were so many options and we wanted to just try them all.
There were so many highlights for me. The fried chicken dishes were so crunchy and tasty and some of the best I've had.
The cold meat dishes like the beef tataki and the kingfish had a beautiful flavour and melted in the mouth.
We absolutely loved each of the baos as well especially the eggplant one, we ended up ordering this one multiple times.
I also ordered a rose drink which was just beautiful. It took a bit of time for the rose sphere to melt into the coconut water but once it did it was so incredibly refreshing and light with a subtle rose flavour.
And of course I can't go without mentioning the signature rainbow drop desserts. I've never seen anything like it. Very unique, light and refreshing and just wow to look at.
Overall, I had an amazing experience here. Super friendly staff, with SO much food! Every single thing was full of flavour and cooked perfectly.
I highly recommend Grand Lafayette to anyone and especially those who love Japanese food!
Just discovered this place for lunch and love it. Food quality, especially for an all you can eat set price is excellent. Each dish was delicious, starting with the seaweed salad, which was excellent. The other dishes, from the maki - tuna, prawn were fantastic. The sushimi like dishes, and we had tuna, salmon, and kingfish were all wonderfully done with superb dressings. Totally wonderful value for $39.8 per person, especially when you are hungry.
This all you can eat Japanese institution just off Chapel Street serves up classic Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. Although it was a very busy time, the waiters seemed to struggle with the load. Most of the food we ordered was delivered to the wrong table but after we spoke to them they quickly rectified this problem and gave us our meals shortly after.
The food and presentation was to a high standard and all tasted delicious. We found all meals to be very fresh and flavoursome! The drinks were very unique too and presented very nicely.
The people serving us were friendly but be aware of going on a busy night! Overall enjoyed the food
A hidden All You Can Eat gem in Prahran. Serving a wide range of Japanese styled tapas in an All you can eat menu along with special desserts such as the raindrop cake (extra charge) and unqiue and creative cocktails. We loved the wide range of items offered for the all you can eat menu, from sushi to chicken kaarage. Everything was delicious and fresh and our favourite menu item was the chicken katsu. The raindrop cake was slightly overrrated and tasted like plain jelly with some sweet syrup. Our favourite was the traditional tokyo express with brown sugar as the other flavours were a bit too artificial and sweet. For cocktails we tried their famous cocktail in a IV drip. This was such a creative way of serving a cocktail. Great place from large functions as the restaurant is spacious. Dont forget to look out for this hidden restaurant along the laneways of Prahran!
Overall really delicious food and really friendly staff. Bit of a long wait for food on v day as it was full house but well worth the wait.
This is the place to be if you are looking for a relaxing place with well presented foods. The place is great for instagram and social media. The foods served are delicious and appeared the same as the ones on the menu. Some foods are interesting as well. Eating and relaxing here with friends is a good idea and cost-effective as you get to try different meals when you avail the all-you-can-eat. The staffs are friendly too and the service is fast. Truly a wonderful place to be.
Love the environment and all the food here! The foods all look very attractive and taste delicious too! Definitely worth to have a go! With a buffet price under $40, even fried rice is very delicious!!
If any other Flamers wanna try this place out aswell hit me up and we can tee up a date
It was such an interesting place, good food, good vibe and friendly services. Oh where do we begin, all I can say is if you have not tried it yet when you are in Prahan; you must.

Save this for an incredibly authentic and delicious Japanese feast @grandlafayette where every item on the menu will satiate will taste buds and appetite for a meal here.
The vibes are so grand and charming here, with a cozy ambiance and bright and spacious decor. The menu is very elaborate and they offer so many varieties of Japanese dishes.
What we had here:
Oyster Tempura, so perfectly crisp and juicy oyster inside, must try. Very yum.
Baked Scallops, the most divine and tastiest baked scallops I’ve ever tried, very addictive and amazing entrée, strongly recommended.
Takoyaki, soft, mushy octopus balls, so perfectly cooked, loved it a lot.
Japanese Pankeki, the taste is very refreshing and crunchy rice pancakes went perfectly well with fish sashimi, tobiko, scallions and soy-yolk. A very unique yet a delectable Japanese dish.
Chicken Katsu curry, such a satisfying Katsu curry, perfect for winter afternoon lunch, strongly recommended.
Prawn fried rice, very flavourful and served with fish caviar and juicy prawns, must try.
We also had a lychee and strawberry crush, both were very fresh and yummy to drink.
We are definitely going back here soon to try all their awesome, Japanese food and drinks. The prices are bit steep, but then again you will only get great quality of food, quantity wise, it’s okay.
The service is friendly and the team of staff here are all very helpful and welcoming in nature.
So why not visit this week @grandlafayette to have a warm, comforting and mind blowing yummy Japanese feast with your friends/family.
Slightly off chapel but what a great place. The food is excellent and super fresh. The staff are so polite and lovely. The only knock down would be the venue - it could do with some more soft furnishings/dividers to make it more intimate.
Last week we had the absolute pleasure to go back to Grand Lafayette to try their new a la carte menu.
We used to love their all you can eat buffet but these dishes are actually much better than the ones we had before!
They got lots of options including raw dishes, sushi, baos, small bites, tempura, don, rice, noodles, soup and Japanese curry 🍛
We tried a bit of everything and also ordered one of their famous raindrop cakes, which was really pretty and cool to eat 💙
