Review White Oaks Saloon Bar And Dining - Melbourne

Enjoyed drinks and dinner here. Highlights were the buffalo chicken, coffee rub steak and cornbread. Venue was quite cold though, wish they’d turned the heaters on, everyone was wearing their jackets still.

We got to the place, “table for 2 please”…we get shown to our table and there is water and two glasses there. Nice, a good touch. My partner takes a drink and cuts her mouth to notice the glass is chipped, and 2 rather large shards of glass come off the cup. Right, well that’s not great, we’ll just let the waiter know and get a new one. Partner let’s the waiter know there’s a chip in the glass to which the response is “ok, give it here”…waiter walks away and brings another glass, “here you go, is there anything else you’d like?” ….nah we’re fine for the moment thanks. We sat there for probably 15 minutes without any wait staff coming to take an order after, we had a bad taste in our mouth so we just left. Bad impressions last. Not good, we went there two nights earlier and the drinks were good and service was good. This waiter has stopped us going back.

This Saloon bar is a place of meeting, of sharing with people from all around the world. Apart from having passionate managers, the location is ideal, a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere. I highly recommend. Thank you for the personalized cocktail, it was a wonder for the taste buds. hats off 😊🇦🇺🇲🇺 ( From Nick, Yohan and Sandrine)

The bar tender or the only person the shop was amazing! He got all our food right and make our drinks! Omg I did not know this place exists. My fav is the whisky sour and the sliders !!! Gonna be back just for drinks and happy hour! Thumbs up .oh and the fries is yummy Hahahha

This American style dining and bar place might be small in space but they make it up with an extensive selection of alcohols and delicious food. I got to try a rootbeer flavoured beer which is so good. The gumbo is comforting, peppery and full of flavours. Both boneless chicken dishes are juicy and the dipping sauces are delightful. Food - 9 Service - 10 Vibe - 9 Price - $$$

Excellent food and service, lots of gluten free options and delicious cocktails - definitely recommend!

Absolutely stunning venue! Staff are friendly, drinks are tasty af, and food was absolutely balls to the wall amazing as anything! We had the fries (with guac and salsa I believe), the chicken tacos, the prawn tacos, the chilli mac 'n' cheese, and the star of the show, the fried green tomato sliders! I give this place a solid 5/7, the perfect score.

White Oaks is one of my favourite locals - I go all the time for drinks and if I’m feeling peckish, I always get either one of the chickens, mac and cheese, the chimichanga or ribs. The bartenders are great and really know how to make a mean drink, I love getting a pina colada or the thyme and apricot sour.
Blue Man
Small bar tucked away on Greville Street. Reminds me of a lot of dive bars in the US. Great ambiance and place to grab a drink to catch-up with someone, however have to note the drinks were a bit on the expensive end. Food wise, the menu draws heavily from the American-South, which I thought although the menu was spot on, the execution of the food left me a bit disappointed.

White Oaks Saloon serves Southern American food. A perusal of the extensive menu gave us a very bad attack of choice paralysis, so we decided to stick with the classics of Sweet Southern BBQ Baby Back Ribs ($16), Carolina BBQ Pulled Pork Chimichangas (2pcs/$14), Cajun fries and Cajun tabasco mayo ($16) and Buffalo Chicken and Jalepeno Ranch ($19). Overall, I had a fantastic time at White Oaks Saloon. It was a haunt we stumbled upon and I would definitely come back to try the other dishes on their menu. They have quite a few restaurants from the same owners as well. It doesn't hurt that it is partnered with Zomato Gold which meant our Beef Ribs were not charged. The service was warm and friendly. The interior has saloon touches which we enjoyed and the bar is a sight to look at. The food was great and definitely left us feeling full and satisfied. I just would've loved an extra notch on the spice levels.

The food is snacky American stuff but yummy. Jelapeno poppers and the chicken were really good! But really, the drinks are the star here. We had some very, very impressive cocktails.

Also, cosy setting and great service. Highly recommend.
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+ Jalapeño Poppers
+ Southern Quesadilla
+ Shrimp tacos
+ Pear salad

Was here for dinner (booked through fork) and was pretty impressed with the cosy bar setup. The Mexican inspired food was largely on point, and we loved the jalapeño poppers (crunchy and spicy), the quesadilla (soft bread filled with delicious fillings), the delightfully crunchy and textural shrimp tacos and the peer salad to just refresh the palate. We also had the chilli Mac and cheese (I do prefer the classic over this one), the buffalo chicken (these were a little too tangy for our liking) and the ribs which were also super tender and a generous serve. The place had a great selection of drinks and I can see this as a great hangout place for a few drinks with mates and some nibbles. Prices were reasonable for what you get even without the discount. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and just super helpful and we loved our dining experience here and would definitely be back!

Won’t be coming here again. There are some good reviews but honestly not when I went on Friday. From the moment my partner and I approached, we received very average service. Weren’t taken our order for ages (even when others that arrived after us were served immediately). Ribs were horrible, fatty and lukewarm. Tacos taste stale with fish fingers in the middle that anyone could make. Plenty of other, better options there. Only giving you guys a 1 star because that’s the minimum and my beer was cold. Everything else - time to improve.

Amazing American drinks and food venue. The selection of drinks is comprehensive and defiantly one of the best in Melbourne.

The food quality: 🥩🥩🥩🥩
Beef a bit under cook but the baby ribs are quite nice.

Price: 💰💰💰💰💰 50% off food

Well howdy! If you’re looking for a good Southern American feast, and good drinks then look no further than this place! The food here is seriously tasty including the most amazing Chili Mac and Cheese which I’m obsessed with. Never mind the fantastic cocktails, and all the fantastic dishes on offer!

3.5
White Oaks Saloon Bar is pleasantly styled inside with a substantial bar selection and subtle neon in places. There’s a lot to see and a lot of eclectic items. Outside tables line Greville street and it’s there that I chose to perch with my Pre dinner cocktail. Parchment fizz with gin and pear was not syrupy sweet so on the dryer end of a sweet cocktail range. Delicious and refreshing as I watched the sun go down. White Oaks does food which I’ll have to stop in for again but on all accounts this looks interesting. Specials board out front advertised daily food, drinks and food drink combo specials.

Came here using Zomato gold, this southern American/Texas bar got lots to offer.
The place is decorated well and really got the wild west cowboy vibe, even the entrance to toilet fits the theme.

Must note that the two staffs(owner?) are extremely friendly, caring and attentive. Their attention to details regarding service are top notch! Food however, could be better (steak need to be rested) but great flavour wise.

They also got whiskey pairing and wide range of drinks and snacks available, good as a hanging out spot/night out with friends.

Service - 5☆
Food - 3☆
Ambience - 4☆

Great service! Coffee rub steak was very yum and you cannot lose with ZG :)
Not sure why I have to write 140 characters...but anyway this place is definitely worth a visit!

Came here at 10pm last week for a late meal, and were greeted with extremely friendly service by the staff. Ordered the vegetarian tomato tacos and was absolutely blown away by the amazing taste. Was not expecting how incredible they tasted. The only feedback is the portion size is a tad small for the price, I would suggest $16-18 or add an extra taco for the current price. I also had the key lime pie and was equally blown away by the taste. Craving it now just thinking about it. Vibe of the place was great too, loved the theme and decor. Partner loved the alcohol options too.
@KeraBearEats
If you had to pick one cuisine as your go-to comfort food, American cuisine might come to mind. White Oaks in Pahran features beers, cocktails, and a food menu inspired by Southern States. Not sure what to expect? Think Fried Chicken, Gumbo, Tacos, Beef Short Rib, Mac & Cheese and Stuffed Jalapenos.
Doris J.
Nice n friendly staff recommended the lime cocktail was pretty good :) nice music small place tho
Bigmelbappetite
@whiteoakssaloon is the place you go for that southern comfort food vibe and flavour - from the decor to the food, it’s dripping with Deep South charm! We had the most incredible jalapeño poppers, mouthwatering gumbo, melt in your mouth beef brisket and a key lime pie that tasted like it was straight out of an American diner! 🤤
Kheng OMNOM
I’ve always been a fan of American diners and visited White oaks was not a disappointment. The food was traditionally authentic and we tried a variety of dishes.
Wooden tables and with a bar top, friendly service, great food.

Highlights: loved the cheesy corn, prawn tacos, jalapeño poppas was the best and a must try if you love spicy food. The pumpkin pie was also yum altho i do prefer my cakes a little more moist.

Loved it and overall would highly recommend visiting!
Ray
Portion sizes are small for the price. One item won’t be enough.

The food tasted ok. Tried the pork sliders and jambalaya. The pork sliders were nice, but the pork lacked flavour. The jambalaya was also ok, but not amazing, the sausage was nice.
Austin Lee
Louisana inspired cuisine that tickled and tantalised the tastebuds. We had a blast of chili Mac and Cheese that was CHILLIcious, and a jumbo gumbo that made me do the mumbo number 5. The fried shrimp tacos was absolutely specTACOlar. The restaurant captured the aesthetic of New Orleans, and even hinted at its French history with the French bulldog that paraded around the restaurant and kept us good company. VIVA LA USA

What a great surprise... this Saloon located on funky Greville Street in Prahran. The vibe is awesome... a must visit. We had a friendly greeting when we arrived. Small team however excellent service. We started with a couple of reds... a nice Shiraz. We ordered Louisiana crab cakes with New Orleans remoulade and sweet southern BBQ baby back ribs. These dishes were exceptional. We note the bar guy who serviced us was amazing serving us impeccably and those at the bar without missing a beat. Well done... we will definitely visit again.
I Love Food
Dined last night on a 50% off food special. We ordered the pulled pork sliders, super tasty & would recommend these. We also ordered the southern fried chicken & jambalaya which were both also tasty. The only dish we didn't enjoy is the chilli mac/cheese, this dish is not like your traditional cheesy mac/cheese we expected, obviously they've put their own twist on it which for our tastes, we didn't enjoy. Overall great night out on a great value deal with tasty food. Our waitress was super friendly also.
EJ
Although our local and we have been before, will not be going back. All 5 dishes ordered came out at once which meant they went cold (2 x starters, 2 x something more & 1 x side). Service was super slow obviously short staffed and trying to service the new venue across the road also.
Maria Condello
Having been to New Orleans and being a huge fan of creole food, I can safely say the food here is as authentic as you can find in Melbourne, absolutely incredible!

The gumbo has such great flavour and plenty of sausage and chicken mixed through. It comes with a VERY generous portion of rice too so this is one filing meal. Would definitley recommend getting cornbread on the side though because they are made in-house and are so perfectly crumbly and delicious!

Other creole classics like jambalaya are on the menu. With the massive, massive cocktail list available too, I will definitiely be back! This is a venue that definitely deserves multiple return visits!
@foodtom
Came for food and drinks, and was pleasantly surprised. Great space with accommodating staff. Safe to say we were a little tipsy by the end of the night. TL:DR great vibes. Check them out.
Burgers Of Melbourne
Great atmosphere, great food, great cocktails. Staff was friendly and knowledgable! Very generous food portions and everything we had was tasty. A good spot to drink and eat American food.

So great food and even better service, I actually haven't got anything else to say other than this is definitely a place to recommend and I'll definitely be back! The beef short ribs were amazing, so much so I don't even have a photo!
Danni Minutoli
Tom and his staff will greet you with a smile and you will be right at home. I had the buffalo chicken with the jalapeno ranch. It went perfectly with the Westward Whiskey. I'll be back for your Tequilla night. Great place
AhNomNom
Great place for drinks and small plates to share. A little disappointed as we thought this was a place to sit down for a great American feast but was met with tiny serving sizes rather than a meal. Staff were polite but left us alone way to long and found ourselves trying to get someone’s attention and to be honest the food was ok, but not really worth the wait.
Ok for a casual catch up after work but not in any rush to head back.
Oh Boy
This is a really nice and cozy drinks and craft beer venue with bites to eat. I would definitely go here for drinks and a light nibble of a slider and a side, not really a main big meal restaurant. The service was good, the manager was excellent and really friendly and welcoming. Great venue for a drink and a casual catch-up.
Julian
Staff were friendly, decor was awesome, food came pretty quick, the menu was diverse, the tacos were amazing, the serving size of the buffalo chicken was more than generous, the drinks were interesting, I would recommend this place.
Hungry Little Dinosaur
Tex mex American food at its finest. Cool vibe, great food, very big drinks menu.
Loved the buffalo chicken and the chilli Mac and cheese. Will definitely return!

White Oaks is lovely! Decor's marvellous, service was pretty good (other than a forgotten drink, but that was hastily corrected).

The food was delicious! We had some fried tomato sliders, the jalapeño poppers (the poppers were definitely a standout) - and took advantage of this interesting beer & whiskey sours deal that they had going.
The beer wasn't too bad, but the whiskey sours was fantastic.
All in all, definitely coming back!
Hendo
Great food with a unique menu.
Amazing and extensive drinks list.
Cosy feel.
Open longer hours than most places in Melbourne.
What more could you ask for!
Tinmans Treats
Stopped here for a cheeky beverage recommended by a mate . Nice, intimate venue. Friendly bar staff. I had the bloody mary which had some significant heat and the pina colada. I had fun.

Only came here for some drinks, we didnt try the food. Really love the vibes of this place. The deco is nice. The staff is really friendly too! We will come back and try the food when we have a chance

Umm American food. So unhealthy but it’s my guilty pleasure. This is a cute little bar in Greville street. Nice atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon. They weren’t too busy but everyone sat at the bar and was having a great time!

The waiters were very friendly and attentive, and genuinely looked like they were having a good time. They have some rotating taps - always something from Sierra Nevada and another US beer. The torpedo IPA is one of my favourites but it is at an eye watering 7.2% ABV. Definitely one not to have if you're counting drinks. They have a massive range of spirits to choose from and also a cocktail on tap!

We weren't planning to have dinner but went specifically for the Jalapeño poppers. They were stuffed with cheese, crumbed beautifully and fried to perfection. One word of warning - they vary in hotness. The first one I had was mild, the next one nearly blew my head off. Apparently this is a property of the jalapeño - Russian roulette with your mouth.

We also ordered the buffalo chicken (boneless) - which was a good option after having Miss Katies earlier in the week. Could have done with more spices, but it was a good little snack and you could dip it into the blue cheese sauce. Finally the fried green tomatoes for a bit of token healthy goodness (maybe). They were nice; crumbed and fried and was nice dipped into the dressing.

A great little find and would highly recommend trying it and coming back regularly. Half a point off - the price does add up. $10 for 4 pieces of tomato seems a lot.
Steve
The fried chicken is amazing, the Texas caviar salad was great. Awesome drinks list and vibe in the bar, always have a rotating beer on tap. Will be back again
Victor Aeberli
Incredible experience, amazing music, fantastic cocktails and such attention to detail. The collection of booze on the back back is second to none and the staff are so friendly.
Definitely one of the top bars Melbourne has to offer.
John Kim
Jalepeno poppers were ok but had an overly thick crumb layer. Crab cakes were mushy and lacked crab flavour. Pulled pork in the sliders had a great smokey flavour and were tender but the bun was the letdown. Fried shrimp tacos were a let down with tiny crumbed pieces. Pickled okra was amazing and the pick of the bunch. Mezcal sour was really good. Overall it was an average meal without it blowing your mind with flavour.
Jessica Cook
Cool vibe, something different, American style cocktail bar with some great bites! Nothing too fancy but some great sliders and soft shell tacos are pretty nice! :)
McFoodie Jones
TEX MEX at its best - so damn good I'm rhyming! he flavours at this place are amazing. The chilli mac & cheese is something else, and those buffalo poppers... okay I'm salivating again! The ambience is true to its name & service was relaxed and efficient. It's a big WOWZA from me peeps - get down there asap!!! Ps - I didn't get to try enough of this menu, maybe a girl could get a holla back?

•Follow me, McFoodie Jones to follow my over eating journey

The restaurant has a very good ambience for drinking and dining. Bartender was very welcoming. The cocktail was good but the mocktail was a bit too sweet. Grilled corn needed more spice to be flavourful. Crab cakes were delicious and would order it again. Pork and chicken gumbo could be better with more spice. The salad was fresh and tasty.
Hello. Imnikki
Ordered through UberEATS and my partner rolled his eyes when he noticed the amount of food that arrived, and also when he found out about the total costs of the order. In my defence, I don't see why I should not have two desserts.

Anyway, he forgot all about the need to complain when he tasted the smokey sausage jambalaya. The flavours of the dish is phenomenal - hints of spices, the sharp sweetness from the tomatoes, the sweet earthy taste of the onions, the generous amount of spicy sausages, and the depth that the smoky hickory glaze brought to tie it all in. The Southern Quesadilla was a winner too. Succulent pieces of spiced Cajun chicken, encased by a crisped yet soft corn tortilla that was still warm after the trip here.

The sweet potato cornbread was too dense and sticky for our liking, and the Louisiana crab cakes were somewhat dry, but both fared quite well in taste. The key lime pie and red velvet ice cream had potential but could do with a few tweaks here and there to liven up the flavour.

Fully stuffed and quite satisfied with our meal, I'm sure we will head there in person to give the rest of the menu a go.

Bringing down rating based on experience in personal service at the place.
We ordered few starters before our home cooked dinner through Uber Eats. Food is delicious especially twice cooked jalapeño poppers. We also ordered buffalo chicken with ranch sauce, which however was too vinegary in taste but was edible too. Different taste, nice for starters.
Maddie Kingham
Came to White Oaks Saloon with my partner for dinner tonight. The restaurant has a cool American vibe and the decor to match!
We ordered the southern fried chicken, the smokey sausage jambalaya and the sausage and chicken gumbo. We also got a side of buttermilk Cornbread- which was nice but a bit too sweet (felt a little like dessert).
Everything was so delicious! The gumbo was not quite as spicy like the one I had in Louisiana but certainly delicious! Our Jambalaya was meant to come with Bloody Mary shooters but somehow this was missed with our order so can't comment on that. The sauce that came with the chicken was good- I spread some on my corn bread and it helped reduce the sweetness.
Service was really nice and friendly.
We will definitely be back- as we were getting the bill the table next to us got some pulled pork sliders and I need to get some next time!
Lily Fullgrabe
Service- 10/10 very friendly and welcoming. Polite but not crossing the line between friendly and too much.

Cocktails- epic. They have pages of options. A local that over deliver. Cannot complaint

Wine - epic - Mendoza Malbec. Yum!

Food- ridiculously. Best jalapeños poppers in Melbourne. Tacos =yum!!
I love the poppers tho, it's a mixed bag, one min it's just yummy jalapeños flavour, the next one blew your head off - just wash it down with the their relish pisco sour.

Ambient- cool, hip, casual . Perfect Sunday or midweek dinner
Lucyyy019
Its place is so nice went here for dinner with a couple of my friends and would recommend love the chicken love the cornbread was a great night out all food drinks went down well and the staff were great
Anh Nguyen
So the good stuff first; service was amazing!!! Our waiter was so nice and accommodating when he realized we weren't happy with some of our dishes and seemed to really appreciate our feedback. Also, his wine recommendation was on point.

Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to make up for the food. Everything was overly vinegary. The gumbo had no depth of flavor and the sausages were dry and powdery, the buffalo chicken was inedible, it was that sour and we had to return it. Chilly mac and cheese was ok, not amazing though.

After disappointing mains we thought we'd give them another chance and got the key lime pie to share, unfortunately, it tasted like a grainy cheesecake. There was no lime flavor at all, luckily they were nice enough to take this off the bill as well, since it was pretty pricey for a tiny sliver.

Maybe this place specialises on drinks, but, judging on how empty it was on a Sunday night, they should really pay their food a little more attention.
Whats On The Grill?
Love this restaurant bar. Good Southern American style food and extensive spirit list - love the penicillin. Staff are extremely friendly and accomodating. Perfect place to catch up with friends or even take a date as has a vibrant and friendly vibe. One of the more unique bars in the Prahran/Windsor area.

ordered delivery using foodoraportion was smallsouthern fried chicken wasn't much different from KFC popcorn chickencajun chips were like maccas chips with a sprinkle of cajun; can't believe i paid $10 for this.

maybe I would've enjoyed it if I was drunk

This place is fantastic! Great food and an excellent drinks selection. The atmosphere and professionalism of the staff makes for a lovely night out.

White Oaks Saloon Bar & Dining is an American inspired, cocktail, craft-beer and food destination. . A venture by brothers Nicholas and Thomas Welch (who also own Silverlake Social), White Oaks is named after the town in New Mexico notoriously connected with ‘billy the kid’ outlaw.
Mystefan11
Ok so the food was good but I think I just had the most expensive popcorn chicken in the Southern hemisphere! Sadly not really Southern style Cajun fried chicken and I am not sure why a large size fries warrants a price tag of $10! Totally not what I expected and did not make the list of restaurants to come back to mainly because it is way too expensive for what it was.

First time eating here. Wasn't sure how food would be. I was amazed. Food was awesome, clean, fresh and great quality. I ate chicken tacos which can sometimes be full of cheap quality meat, the meat here was excellent as were the drinks. Would highly recommend. Thanks White Oaks.
Rhys McCarthy
Came here for drinks with mates on the weekend and I was quite happy with the choice of venue.
I dont drink cocktails but I quite enjoyed the ones here.
The food is a bit pricey for what you get but I guess being in Prahran it is to be expected.
I wouldn't mind coming back and checking this place out again.
The City Lane
White Oaks Saloon is brothers Tom and Nicholas Welch’s ode to America’s South. From the Bluegrass/Country soundtrack to the swinging wooden doors, low lights and the decor, the bar certainly feels like what you’d think a bar like this should feel like.
Mark
My favourite local. Perfect spot for a drink and bite. We always just sit at the bar or a high table for some shared plates. The staff is incredibly friendly and it has a great laid-back vibe to it. I recommend the pork sliders and Cajun chicken tacos.
David Lew
Southern spicy chicken - wow what a punchy dish! Absolutely loved it but best served to share with other things because it's full-on.

Fried green tomatoes tacos - again unbelievable!

Keylime pie - again fantastic.

I've never had this type of food before, but it definitely has an authenticity to its taste and the atmosphere.

Will definitely return.
Nelly
Friendly waiters. Really good keylime pie. The food is really meant for sharing and whilst its not my personal flavour favorite doesn't mean it isn't any good.

Really punchy flavours and a nice change of pace for me. Worth a try and would return.
MF
Food overall was okay, just the buffalo chicken was way too sour, none of us ate more than one bite, and theres a funny taste on it as well. Mohito was just okay, not enough rhum, the balance of the drink wasnt good. Service was okay, friendly but a bit awkward, wasnt smiling when we pay the bill, but when we gave tip on the way out became super nice and appreciative.
Denny Patron
Really nice food a a good vibe as well, great night out. Fried chicken and tacos were great, mac n cheese really tasty, pork sliders good as well. Few good beers as well.
Richie
Great food, drinks, and service. Maybe a little over priced all things considered, but it's nice to have a respectable cocktail bar in the area. Well done.
Christian Clarke
What a gr8 way to spend a Monday night- amazing cocktails and traditional southern fried chicken #delicious- I was transported to an American country town, with old fashioned friendly hospitality which is lacking from so many establishments these days- definitely recommend this place to anyone- gr8 find on Greville st😜

Uh-Mazing! We had a table of 5 for a mid week dinner and could barely fault it. The mulled wine was delicious and a great change from a regular bottle of red. Their chilli mac & cheese was epic (Id even go as far as saying better then Le Bon Ton's) and their service was to attentive and genuine. My one small qualm was that their shrimp tacos were a little dry, but I got some fresh lime to jazz it up a little. It was also a bit $-ey but you can tell how much love goes into their food. I also loved their dedication to the cuisine - going as far as serving gumbo, buttermilk cornbread and jumbalaya was really refreshing in comparison to seeing other places chucking some grilled corn, sliders and pulled meats on their menu and calling themselves "Deep South". Thanks Team!
Al Pierson
My go to late night food spot when "touring" with my local friend, obviously a frequent flyer - we often have the red carpet rolled out. For such a busy venue this is a refreshing show of hospitality. The food is very American in styling but consistently delicious. Great fit out & the drinks seem ever changing. Play on!
Marshall Allen
Awesome, awesome food. Best buffalo chicken in Australia. The fried green tomato tacos were amazing. The corn bread, jalapeño poppers, and crab cakes were like my grandmother cooked them, stunning. Most authentic American food I've had in Oz.
Impress Me
Wonderful bar with casual dining serving American style food. Southern Fried Chicken, Pork Sliders, Corn etc. If you like a wide selection of liquor you will not be disappointed. Friendly owners and staff.

GREAT food and drink and atmosphere - have been a fan since they opened.
HOWEVER - - -
Disappointed by the ridiculous price hike of late. Majority of dishes that were $15 jumped to $18 overnight. $18 for 3 sliders - - - that's $6.00 each... Cocktails - $20 when the going rate in Melbs is $18? Complete price gouging. Not impressed. How do you justify that when CPI is less than 2%?
ToorakM
5/5 - Was a wee bit lazy and got UberEats to deliver and wow this place delivered alright.

Chicken tacos were delicious, all breast meat, lots of colour in the salad and was really tasty.

Mac and cheese was spicy, had beans and tomato through it - bit different but good!

Southern fried chicken - perfection with a spicy mayo and all breast too. Quesadilla was also good with all white meat.

Blue corn chips - salsa - YUM. Overall this is fabulous good food and it can be delivered 😍
Michael Davis
I have been here over a dozen times in the past year and I could not recommend this place highly enough! I always look forward to coming back.

The Southern Fried Chicken is probably my favourite chicken dish ever! The chicken is always so fresh and cooked so well, complemented with great spices. The Cajun Fries while the style is not unique to this shop, are saved by the great herbs and spices they use. Both dishes work amazing together.

Besides the food, they have a ton of drinks to choose from. It would satisfy anyone who is into different types of whisky, rum, beer etc.

The only downside is the venue can be a bit small, and on weekends it can be difficult to get a seat at certain times. I would happily wait at the bar until a seat is free however!
AMBI
Cannot recommend enough! This is my favourite restaurant ever! (Like seriously, ever) I try to take all my friends here and even had my birthday dinner here in 2015.
I first came here with my aunty, (she had been many times & the owners know her) uncle and a friend on Halloween in 2014. I didn't even eat anything but loved the feel/look of the restaurant and knew i'd be back to try the food.

I had dinner there soon after and have now been coming to White Oaks regularly for the past year and a half! I love all the food and they make the best cocktail I have ever had - Hazelnut Passion. (Try itttt)

My boyfriend and I visit the saloon quite often when we are around Chapel St and Tom & Nick know our faces. :))) Needless to say, the staff are fabulous and attentive.

The food is outstanding and so are the drinks, especially if you are looking for something a little more interesting and americanised.
Food Etc.
Quality establishment with a great selection and decent prices. Pork sliders were delicious, as was the fried shrimp tacos. Love to see blue corn tortilla chips on the menu. A little disappointed with the choice of breast meat on the fried chicken, as it was a little dry in the end.
Great place to go to for a meal or some drinks. This kind of food is a very competitive space, but White Oaks is right up there with the best of them.

Ordered through Deliveroo. Fast delivery within 15 mins. Perfect food for a movie or NBA game at home.

Hi White Oaks Management,

Can you please pass onto your wait staff that "too much service" can come across as bad service!

You have a lovely intimate restaurant and a nice bar on Greville St Prahran. We enjoyed the yummy pork sliders to start with and that is where it ended! I found myself rather annoyed due to the constant interruptions from the female staff who was waiting on us this evening Sunday March 6th 8pm to 840pm.

Now I appreciate great service and attention towards customers (at dinner) having worked as a Concierge for 5 Star Hotels in Melbourne, it's just that the female staff seemed excessive and almost rude asking us 5 times at least during our sitting of 40mins "how is everything". It was difficult to enjoy the meal and some quality time with my partner after we had not seen each other for a while. All I wanted to do was to have a decent conversation with my girlfriend but the female wait staff came to our table much too often.

We ended up rushing through our food and on the way out of the restaurant exclaiming in a loud voice on Greville St … "the service was way too much!"… Funny enough another couple who walked pass us overheard our exclamation about the service and asked us which restaurant it was!? We said it was the White Oaks to which they said thank you and walked straight pass your establishment and proceeded to the Thai place a couple of doors down!

Will I return? Probably not! Please pass onto your staff that too much service and uncalled interruptions can put off customers!

I trust that this feedback is taken in the correct manner for your staff's professional development and future customer's dining experience.
Absolutely love this place, the food and the cocktails always hit the spot. Definitely order the salted caramel ice cream for dessert: definitely a winner.

I'd been planning on stopping by here for a few months. Finally made it there. The shrimp, crab cakes, macaroni and cheese and the buffalo chicken ...soooo great! Will be returning ...and returning and returning.

I had never even heard of this place but stumbled upon it for dinner, what a winner that was. Gorgeous American style food but nothing seemed really greasy or heavy. We shared the southern fried chicken, a quesadilla and the sweet potato polenta corn bread. Everything was really nice, light and easy to share. Service was great and a decent wine and beverage list too!

Great service and cocktails, average food. I was here for dinner and had high expectations given White Oaks reputation. The food unfortunately was not amazing - perhaps they changed chefs? - but the cocktails were delicious and the staff were absolutely amazing. I would definitely head back for drinks..maybe not the food. Excellent service for sure!

This place is such a gem. Officially my new favorite dining spot in Melbourne. Loved the interiors, great concept. Casual but intimate. Great spot for a date. Great beer selection and cocktails.
But most of all what makes this place a winner is the food. Just wow. The jambalaya is insane and everything else is also top notch. Perfect portions. Small menu but eveything on it is well perfected. The owners are also really accomadating. Just had a wonderfull dining experience. Will definitely be coming back. Keep it up!!!!

Best new bar in Greville St. Good selection of Pinot Noirs and beers. Chips are fab and salads are good. They will do fructose friendly versions too. The 2 brothers who run it are very welcoming and it has become our new regular bar for wine and big snacks.

Substance and style. I find the south side is littered with 'glam' bars and nightclubs but sometimes lacks more down-to-earth watering holes. I was apprehensive about the fact that this place called itself a saloon bar, but there's no mechanical bulls here, nor bogans behind the bar. There's a great range of cocktails, a short but considered wine and beer list, and some really delicious comfort food like fried chicken (a classier popcorn chicken) and pulled pork brioche sliders. The warm lighting is matched with warm and very attentive service, and the music is just loud enough to create a good atmosphere without drowning out conversation with good friends.

Great new bar for the area. Sit at the bar and chat with the bartender, he knows his cocktails. The food is affordable, great and really unique - Louisiana style!
