Review Punchbowl Canteen - Melbourne

Just sat down and it's very nice and modern and I just ordered the chocolate milkshake and the burger so let's see how that is. in the end everything was amazing and tasted great.

Good quality portion of wedges and nice chocolate milk shake. Stopped off here with a friend on a bike ride. Good friendly service. Wait times for food, good. Outdoor / indoor seating.

Service was great, the lovely server with Blue ponytail is an asset to the place. Whilst the food was nice, presentation was poor. Just plonked on plate, prices high for what you get so not great value. Dont mind paying if quality and quantity reflects. Not sure we'd go again for these last comments. Turmeric latte though was lovely. Perfectly made.

A great place to catch up with friends. The noise level did not impede normal conversation. Food was yummy and service brilliant

Coffee is quite average even though it was made properly. We gave a try to their iconic turmeric latter with a shot of espresso and were regretting the decision. Looks good but the taste is quite unique.. not in a good way.

Had the Hawaian bowl. Fresh Salmon sushimi, Avo,seaweed salad, pickled ginger, rice, wasabi aioli. Absolutely sensational. Will go back just for that dish again. A+

We have had breakfast before and it is very good. Usually just coffee though. Very enjoyable

Loved the coffee and the food. Good ambience and friendly staff. Enjoyed our brunch

This place has little competition in the industrial / business park area of Port Melbourne, so happily it serves a range of cafe fare in this bright and airy converted warehouse. As we were coming in a group I tried pre-ordering, but the long delay in receiving the menu meant I had to walk there to photograph it myself.

Most of the meals came soon after we arrived. My salmon poke bowl was tasty with fresh, wholesome ingredients. The kaarage chicken version was devoured with gusto by my hungry colleagues but looked a bit dry to me. The dishes are a little pricey for the serving size, with the falafel bowl being an exception.

The meals are fine for a quick lunch; the rating reflects there's no hook for me relative to the highly competitive gastronomic scene in Melbourne.

There aren’t many brunch/coffee spots in Port Melbourne, so it’s great that Punchbowl Canteen is around! Their food is really well balanced and changes seasonally. Their coffee is pretty good too!

Food is pretty nice! Worth with the price and the quality. I really like the brownie! However, i think its pumpkie brownie. Not really nice for me. Overall, the staff is really friendly as well. Would come back to here again next time.

Friendly staff, very busy so sometimes there is a wait in between service. I had a delicious Poke bowl, highly recommend it and will certainly be back to have again.

The cafe is located at a pretty obscure area although this means no need to wait for a table (yay).
The thick cut bacon was really thick! And salty. Everything else on the plate was still ok. Sadly, they ran out of salmon and I had to go for their chicken karage poke bowl. Chicken was a bit dry but there was a good combination of vegetables and flavours.

A beautifully spacious cafe with funky and colourful walls, and a great outdoor area. They serve up good coffees and also have a nice selection of smoothies (smooth criminal tomboy is a personal fav).

Poke poke poke. I can't get enough of their chicken poke bowl. It's a perfect combination of things that are good for you - rice, beans, avocado, carrots - and not so good things -fried chicken. I feel less guilty eating fried stuff because of this poke bowl.

Only discovered this place by chance on a drive past as it’s tucked away in the industrial area in Port Melbourne. Quirky and grungy cafe that it could fit perfectly into Brunswick. Coffee was good but did take awhile to get to our table and unfortunately was not hot enough. I had the spiced fruit toast with ricotta and poached rhubarb which was also pretty good although my meal arrived some time after the other person I was with received theirs. Overall a cool place but could improve on a few things .Will be back again to give it another go.

Make sure you go here!

Not many cafes have the staff and vibe that this place does. It’s attached to a barber shop and the owner greets you the minute you walk in. The barista is super happy and I had a great chat with her.

I got the avocado smash panini and it was epic! Hands down a masterpiece. I also got the health shot (lemon and ginger) which made me appreciate this place even more.

Do your self a favour and visit this awesome bunch.

This cafe is saving the souls of many local workers who don't have much of a variety of choices nearby. The chai latte was delicious and the decor of the cafe is light and colorful. Gets very busy at lunch time so get in early

I have never been so horrified with the customer service by all members of staff from any cafe in Melbourne than I have from this place. And this wasn’t even the first time it’s happened. Im a big believer in second chances, which is what I’ve given Punchbowl, only to find out the attitude is the same throughout. I hope this is something that changes and improves as the coffee was great, but in this day and age and especially in a hub of food and coffee like melbourne, it’s takes more than just good coffee to bring someone back to an establishment.

Food : Scrambled eggs with bacon slab. Rice pudding. Eggs were cooked like a pro, good portion. The bacon slab idea is pretty cool, probably prefer this over the usual thin and oily rasher bacon. The rice pudding was impressive to look at, with strawberries and passion fruit adorning the top. And it was as much enjoyable to eat, as it was to look at.
Ambience: Nice bright airy indoor area, some spots outside in the shade.
Service: All the wait staff are experienced, pretty flawless. What made this a 5/5 in the end was they allowed us to split the bill, not this one bill per table thing which would have been a huge hassle for our group. Thanks guys.

> Red is the new green poke bowl with rice, red quinoa, beetroot, kimchi, pomegranates, pickled egg <

Poke bowls are becoming more and more common at cafes and restaurants, but can you blame it?! Poke bowls are very healthy and extremely filling. The poke bowl is quite basic as it does not have any meat or fish scattered throughout. It is quite a light meal but will keep you energised and full for the entire day. The rice and quinoa mixed with the beetroot is a perfect combination and these flavours really stand out in the meal. the beetroot gives the dish a bright pop of colour and sets the theme for this meal.

> Okonomiyaki fritters with kewpie mayo, bbq sauce, Asian herbs + eggs <

These fritters, OMG, as soon as I saw the ingredients on the menu I instantly gravitated towards them. The fritters were quite thick and large so they were obviously very filling. The texture was clumpy and not mushy. The sweetness of the kewpie mayo and smokiness of the bbq sauce melted perfectly into the fritters and added so much flavour to the overall flavour of this dish. These fritters were probably the best out of all 3 meals that we tried and I would highly recommend trying them if you like fritters!

> Punchbowl Nutella on toast with fresh strawberries <

I was very intrigued by the Nutella and strawberry toast because it is very unusual for a café of this calibre to serve something so basic. However, this dish was far from basic. The Nutella was homemade so it had chunks of hazelnut spread throughout, and the chocolate was thicker than normal Nutella, so both of these spread on the crunchy toast formed a really well made meal. The sweetness of the strawberries made the dish pop and complemented the chocolate spread really nicely.

I’ve been here twice and both times the coffee was unpalatable.
The staff are rude and don’t pay attention to customers - they sit around chatting on their phones.
Lastly they have gotten my order wrong because they are too distracted by mucking around to pay attention to their consumers.
Do not recommend.

Great leafy spot with a nice looking menu, our regular go to when you want consistently good quality coffee in port with a great choice in specialty coffee blends...
Simmyeats.Melb
Ordered a take away quinoa salad which was lovely. I arrived quite late so there wasn't much of the salad left. The lady behind the counter offered what was left over for $10. The cafe itself is nice and will try and come back again.

Excellent coffee, but unfortunately the worst service I’ve ever had. No one wanted to take our food order. Our coffees were delivered and the waitress couldn’t run off any quicker. Tried to wave a waitress down but they didn’t want to give eye contact so we ended up leaving.

Located in the industrialised area of Port Melbourne, Punchbowl Canteen offers a chill and relaxed atmosphere; perfect for breakfast and lunch. I was around that area and decided to come in and grabbed a coffee and muffin just because of the cool design.

Panda 🐼🐼🐼:
Coffee is decent! Perfect balance for my palate
Friendly staffs

Pandont ❌❌❌
berry muffins - the sourness of the berries is a bit overwhelming
Slow service

Overall, cool place with top notch coffee. Will come here again if I am around that area :)

We happened upon the industrial side of Port Melbourne, so we took this perfect opportunity to try out Punchbowl canteen, which sealed on my to go list for a while now. The cafe is bright and very spacious, the industrial set up was lovely, high ceilings and white walls. Simple and clean⚪️ However, service was a bit hit and miss; long wait time for food, it tasted good tho.
.
THICK CUT BACON ($19.5) 🥓 with potato cake and poached eggs. It was pretty decent, potato cake was nice and pretty, eggs was well-made. Yum yum for bacon lover 🐷💕
.
PUNCHY CHEESEBURGER ($20) 🍔 with fries was great, juicy and flavorful. Fries were crispy and less oily 🍟 a generous portion.
.
Industry Beans Coffee was really good! ☕️ Not a fan of the Matcha Maiden Latte, too powdery and bitter.
Cassie Betteson
I can only add a rating based on the coffee here, but I had to do it because the coffee is perfect! We found this place by chance when lost in port Melbourne and found it to be such a cool location and setting! AimING to stumble across it again soon and actually have a sit down brekky! :)

Not every brunch experience is going to be a good one but it takes the good ones to really make you appreciate the good ones. Unfortunately...Punchbowl Canteen was one of those bad ones. Read on to read my review on Part 1 of Double Brunch Weekend.
I'll start with the positives. The decor of the cafe is very cute with an industrial chic feel and lots of natural light. The area that it is in a business park so it is a bright spot but also seems to fit in with its surroundings. There was also two great dishes in the form of the Lemon Meringue French Toast and Thick Cut Bacon. The French toast was both sour and sweet like a lemon meringue pie and worked well with the very fluffy french toast that it say on...a highlight of our visit. The standout of the thick cut bacon dish was the gruyere potato cake that simply melted in your mouth. Both dishes were quite rich so save them for an empty stomach!

My husband and I love to try new brunch places. I came across Punchbowl on Instagram somewhere so we decided to give it a go. Punchbowl is situated down a quiet street in Port Melbourne near Bunnings. The place looks a bit like it’s a converted old warehouse!. We got a seat straight away as it was a cold and quiet morning.

I had one of the worst service here
First we waited an hour for our food to come.
Before it came out, the waitress came up and told me that one element of my meal was sold out (at 11am?!) so I told her just replace that element with an avocado.
After a little while, my friends' meals came out but mine didn't. Waited another 10mins before it came out and it was a completely different dish that I had ordered.
The waitress told me they realised afterwards that another element had sold out so they decided to give me this dish instead.
Why would you assume that and give me a dish I didn't order?! Why didn't you just come out and tel me to pick a different dish altogether?!

Great little spot. Plenty of seating, perfect cup of coffee, delicious food and the staff were fantastic. The juice had a great kick to it it and I love they had milo shakes on the menu.

I had the Poké bowl it was absolutely delicious! Fresh and flavoursome and exactly what you need in the weekend. You wouldn't even know it's healthy! The coffee is also perfect. Friendly service and great atmosphere. Can't wait to come back :)

Punchbowl Canteen resides in a business park area opposite Toyota, just off the West Gate making parking an ease. An unexpected location Melbourne may love its laneways but brunch loves popping up in unconventional places! . Far from the main roads it's lovely outside when the weather's warmer. Look at all that parking! You won't find that in the city or brunch spots in residential areas.

Filled with natural light, fun vibes and an upbeat atmosphere, Punchbowl Canteen is a worthy find amongst its industrial neighbours on this side of Port Melbourne. Only one-year-old in age, the seamless operation with which this cafe operates could fool you into thinking its been around for years. Even some of Hollywood’s finest (ahem, Eric Bana) frequently visits this cafe… so that must be saying something, right?!

Look out folks! Punchbowl Canteen is a relatively spacious cafe with fun wall art and industrial whites. Staff are extremely friendly and while the location proves to be somewhat in the middle of nowhere, it should be a location worth stopping at.

Firstly, Punchbowl Canteen serves up a mean smoothie - The Tomboy is well balanced with sweet and tanginess, and revitalising as well. It went hand in hand with my thick cut bacon, where the pork just melted in the mouth and while it took its time to come out compared to other dishes, I would rather that than raw meat. The beetroot served with it was nice and sweet, while the rocket helped to balance the flavours with its bitterness.

The jam hotcake with cinnamon icecream was presented beautifullly. The creaminess and smoothness of that icecream was delicious, and together with a fluffy donut like hotcake made it for a winner. Left quite happy with my feed!

Warehouse of goodies .....

Saturday Brunch made easy ....

Located amongst the warehouses of Port Melbourne, across from Toyota office, the best addition to the area in my opinion as it would be "dead" silence on weekends if not for Punchbowl Canteen which doubled as a barber shop too.

Got to love the set up, a converted warehouse, the outside wall is covered with a creeping plant leaves, huge French inspired Black framed glass sliding door, just don't sit at the entrance like we did with the Winter wind draft every-time the door in opened.

Great, youthful, pleasant and friendly attentive service considering that it was a FULL Saturday service.

Food wise; we've ordered a few ...
One of the tastiest Salad Asian inspired dressing .... a bonus for a carnivore like me.
Jam Doughnut Hotcake, YES, reorder ... if you like sweet breakfast, Cinnamon and presentation.
Broccoli & Kale Fritter, NO, just wasn't well made, wrong combo, mushy ...
Thick Cut Bacon, YES, simply good
Avocado on Toast, YES, it comes with Salmon, although poached Eggs were ordinary.
Punchy Cheeseburger, YES, if you don't mind paying $20
Drink wise;
$3.8 Industry Rose Blend Latte is pretty average.
$3.8 Signle Blend Short Black is quite impressive.
$5 Prana Chai
$6 Matcha Latte, not enough Matcha and very thin "liquid", using Almond milk, hence the thinness goodness.

They've got wines ...... hallelujah, just the wrong timing this time.

Very enjoyable Saturday brunch, even on the other side of Melbourne for us, will be back, thank you. I was excited to be invited by Good Food Good Mood
to attend a tasting of the new menu of Punchbowl Canteen with her. I always enjoy trying new places and this cafe being on the opposite side of town and in a fairly industrial location meant it slipped under my radar to this point.

Punchbowl was set up in an old factory space with high industrial ceilings, light bright window, solid iron framed doors. It was softened by pastel interiors and wall art and bathed in whites and soft colours. We sat at a lovely stone topped table.

I was amazed by the variety of items in the cake/slice cabinets all of which are baked on site. The open layout of the venue meant we could see into the kitchen and look at the progress of foods being prepared. I loved that.

I ordered a refreshing latte to help wake me up but was drawn to the fresh pressed juices section of the menu. I opted for a Shirley juice which was a delicious blend of pineapple, apple, lemon and mint. Some of the other juices looked great but seemed quite thick (smoothie) so I was glad with my choice.

We chose to try three dishes. I naturally had to try the jam doughnut hotcakes with injectable jam filling and an ultra creamy cinnamon ice cream. This was an amazing looking and highly popular dish on the table. Very easy to eat and eat more of this item. We also ordered the spiced pumpkin tea cakes with coconut yogurt, pears and curry cashews. I found this little dish had a lot going on dedpite its size. I wasn't 100% sure about the spices in the tea cake but enjoyed trying the curry cashews in this sweet dish. Plenty on the table did enjoy trying this dish.

My favourite of the three dishes was the Korean Fried Chicken burger which was in a sweet spicy chilli sauce with a pickled slaw. I was watching these burgers being prepared and the generosity of this special sauce being applied so there was no surprises that I had it dripping down my hands when picking up. Not an easy eat but well worth it as it was easily one of the nicest KFC burgers I have had.

I didn't try but was quite interested in the thick cut bacon dish with its gruyere potato cake and eggs at the other end of the table. It looked like something I would enjoy on my return. The bacon looked to be nearly 1cm thick!!!

The service was very prompt and friendly and the cafe was quite full. I now have another destination cafe to come to with ample street parking, an inventive menu and cheery interior.

I'm no fan of Winter but I was very excited to be invited to check out the new Winter menu at Punchbowl Canteen today. The one good thing that comes with a change of the season is a change of menu and the opportunity to eat deliciously filling and warming dishes. I was immediately impressed as I walked into a stunning interior, high airy ceilings, crisp white walls and two pretty pastel feature walls brightening up the space. We sat on a beautiful marble table with gorgeous gold trimming which was echoed on the cake cabinet and across the front counter. The cake cabinet housed some real beauties including some tempting cinnamon scrolls, and all made in house too.
I started off with a turmeric latte, the ultimate winter warmer as I pondered the menu. Ultimately we decided on three dishes between two of us, because #variety.
I had smoothie envy as I spotted how striking the drinks all looked topped with a vibrant flower so I swiftly ordered The Tomboy which was a yummy tropical blend of banana, mango, passionfruit, pineapple, yoghurt and milk. All the juices are freshly pressed to order too.
The food was out before too long and we started with the jam doughnut hotcake with cinnamon ice cream. It presented beautifully topped with the jam syringe which I gleefully injected into the sweet fluffy hotcake. Gorgeous and not too heavy either. Next up was the Korean fried chicken burger with kim chi slaw and sweet chilli jam. I can't believe we almost didn't order this. Absolutely cracking dish albeit quite saucy and a bit messy to eat. Who gives a hoot when its absolutely tasty AF. Great fries too. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I couldn't resist when I was offered a taste of the yoghurt flatbread as I could see it being expertly rolled out in the open kitchen when we first arrived. It was absolutely perfect with the cumin cauliflower and the hummus topped with fried eggs. Something quite different to what you usually see on a standard brunch menu too.
This is what drew us to the spiced pumpkin tea cake which is kind of their take on a banana bread but a more exotic and creative rendition. I could literally smell the intoxicating scent wafting over before the dish arrived. It took me on a spice journey with its curry spiced cashews freshened up with some coconut yoghurt. On the smaller side compared to the other dishes but still adequately filling for a light breakfast or paired with a smoothie.
Bustlingly busy consisting its kind of smack bang in the industrial area of Port Melbourne but it really gives those Bay St venues a run for their money. Not only is it easier to park, the menu is far more innovative and offers up something a bit different and exciting. Quite the hidden gem.
Hot tip keep your eyes peeled for Eric Bana as he apparently lives around the corner and is here every weekend

This place is so try hard. Over priced and very under whelming. What makes it worse is the miserable barista that makes you feel like you have inconvenienced him to make you a coffee. The hipster coffee is absolute crap by the way. The girls are friendly but the guys have to go. Won't be back. The Fennel st cafe has way better coffee and only $3.
FOOD TRIP
Punchbowl Canteen is really a destination café. It is located in the middle of nowhere in Port Melbourne, so most visitors would come with a purpose rather than as passer byers. The café is open, spacious and light filled. Great for a catch up brunch with friends! Lots of food and drink options to choose from, including many of the usual brunch suspects. Food is great and would recommend checking out!

Omg! This place is a hidden gem amongst the industrial area of Port Melbourne. I could not believe myself this cafe existed as it could be easily missed as it blends in with the other factories. I like the fact that there is heaps of car parking which you don't have to pay for which is a bonus. Overall the service was very quick for a weekend and dishes themselves were delicious. I like the fact that they update their menu frequently. This cafe is definitely worth the visit and the variety of savoury sandwiches, cakes and muffins in their display cabinet is also awesome.

Ordered two bacon and egg rolls for smoko. Me and the workmate agreed that there's way too much salt.. tomato sauce also tastes like it's from a leggos pasta sauce jar.

How have I not been here before?!

Amazing Value! (Hot tip below)

But first...the venue is really cool. Kinda of reminds of the trendy spots you would find in Seminyak, Bali.
The staff are really friendly and provide excellent customer service.
For menu is great. I struggled to pick what to have with some many delicious sounding options. I finally decided on the Korean fried chicken burger in brioche bun. So good.
Will definitely be coming back to try something else.

Ok now for the hot tip!
Get yourself on "living social" and look for the Punchbowl Canteen deal. Breakfast/Lunch with coffee for 2... $19!!!

You are welcome 😉
Very bad bad experiments today in this Cafe. We were coming for the signature special Egg, but have been told that wasn't on the menu anymore. Moreover, we order the Bacon was over cooked, very tough for the kids; only one fired egg and a bit rocket leaves with no presentation at all which charges around $20! Furthermore, the muesli was using the can fruit and sweeten. I will never come back again.
Wanda.
We believe the previous chef gone , now the food is worst.

Whole menu has changed , those signature dished Stenpy longer available! Instead expensive and taster awful stuff on the menu.

Never come here again , worst experience for lunch.
Should take some pics of our orders , so regretted we didn't do that.

A lovely place to chill on weekends and enjoy breakfast and coffee. Ordered the thick cut bacon that came with potato cake and poached eggs. Eggs were perfect, potato cake nicely crisp and seasoned and can't complain about the thick cut bacon! Their barista seemed to take pride in his coffee making and the coffee was great!

•yummy healthy food
•wide choice of drinks, tried the Sid cold pressed juice- very energising and refreshing.
•falafel salad was really super tasty, good size and presented in a clean fresh way that suited the overall decor of the place.
•friendly staff.
•only downside was that the service and waiting for meals was a bit slow, though the staff were pleasant.

Felafel salad super tasty and something different. Always on the hunt for something new. We had fresh juices and the streak sandwich. There is outdoor seating too and overall is a nice and friendly atmosphere.

Came here for Sunday breakfast before the cycling crit nearby. Very easy to get a seat at 8:30am. Latte was good - strong & creamy. The Something Sweet was not really sweet. The brioche was very dense but not sweet. Cream, strawberries and balsamic were the main flavours. It was acidic but not sweet. He enjoyed his Thick Cut Bacon. Based on breakfast he would return.

This place brings to life its industrial surrounding. The coffee and food are good here as well as the service. Worth checking out if if you are in the area.

Sitting alone and proud on a side street in the industrial side of Port Melbourne is Punchbowl Canteen. This leafy, somewhat industrial neighborhood is so close to the city grid but somehow feels like another town. A place where it's OK to sleep in until 10AM, head out for a late brunch and have a few cheeky Bloody Mary's between coffees. My friend and I arrived on a sunny Sunday afternoon to find the friendly staff joking between each other - it seems like a happy place to be.

Opening next door to the fantastic Uncle Rocco's Barbershop only a short while ago, Punchbowl Canteen is a great new café. Local residents and workers have already discovered this foodie haven ripe for a brunch expedition.

Housed in the former home of the Red Tulip Easter Egg factory, Punchbowl features large lofty ceilings and ten-foot high colorful wall art from illustrator Leah Bartholomew.

Head chef Elizabeth Milroy has crafted a menu that features interesting twists on classic dishes. Local produce is a key focus for Punchbowl with the menu proudly listing their key suppliers.

We were pleasantly surprised to find the Australian breakfast staple vegemite paired with some tasty Welsh rarebit, cheese and leek on toast. Other dishes of note include the Earl Grey tea-smoked trout, a slow cooked beef cheek burger with just the right amount of cheese and fish cake scotch egg with radish and pear.

A wood-fired oven sits at the entrance to slow-cook meats for the kitchen as well as tasty pastries to grab and go. Vegan smoothies, freshly made juices and some interesting thick shakes (loaded with lots of ice cream) round out the menu nicely. The Gingerbread thick shake was defiantly a keeper. Fitzroy coffee roaster, Industry Beans are supplying the caffeine.

Outdoor seating is under a lovely big, 100 year old tree and there is plenty of on street parking making this an easy destination café for families and food adventurers like us. We love that Port Melbourne is punching above its weight with excellent destination cafes like this.

Nice and bright inside with attentive staff that looked after us immediately. The Korean fried chicken burger had a mix of lovely flavours with a little bit of spice and a generous amount of crunch. Enjoyed the coffee as well. Worth the trip from East St Kilda.

A great visit to Punchbowl canteen. Fish cake scotch eggs and the Korean Fried Chicken burger were amazing. A perfect afternoon whether it be seating within the pastel fruit splashed walled dining hall or out in the grassy front area.

Relax over coffee, or take in the suits to have your meeting, or if your like us adventure there because the menu looked delicious and enticing.

Punchbowl Canteen is the epitome of cool, a bright airy space amongst the industrial chic of the backend of Port Melbourne there is a calmness with the bright white furniture and cute pastel branding. Everything is there for a reason and has been thought through ith great purpose, you can tell just from the juice menu!

When it comes to food, the only thing I associate with Port Melbourne's industrial area is the occasional wafting smell of Vegemite from the Kraft factory when driving along the freeway... But that is no longer the case thanks to Punchbowl Canteen, which injects some much needed vibrancy (oh so much colour!) and tastiness to the industrial landscape. I recently experienced a BIG TASTE of Punchbowl Canteen (as much as my stomach could handle anyway) at a bloggers lunch where a whopping 13 dishes was served...

*updated review*
We came back and hopefully Punchbowl Canteen will be one of our regular hang outs for brunch. We were invited to try the new winter menu and loved it as much as we did the last time we were here. The winter menu is again very unquie with some great flavor combinations. I ordered the smoked trout, avocado and poached eggs which was a very generous serving. I washed it down with the 'sid' which had a strong cayenne pepper after taste... Boy did I need that on a Sunday morning.

My friend ordered the bacon sandwich with crisp purple cabbage and pineapple slaw, bbq sauce and a fried egg. She also has the Walter berry packed full of oats, apple juice, yoghurt & blueberries it was so wholesome it was like another meal.

We also tried the jam doughnut hotcake with cinnamon ice cream, oh my goodness if you can eat hotcakes for brunch order this!

After seeing Punchbowl Canteen everywhere on social media I knew I had to come in, order coffee, have breakfast & visit down and staree at the beautiful artwork by Leah Bartholomew 5/5 already! I sat down & was greeted by staff who poured me water & gave me a menu. They told me their most popular breakfast was the pumpkin donuts served with cinnamon sugar and freeze dried mandarin $16 however, I can't go passed thick bacon & my favourite poached eggs so I ordered the Thick Cut Bacon, gruyere potato cake, beetroot relish, chipotle mayo,
poached eggs $19. Their coffee was great, I had two caps (full milk).
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Punchbowl Canteen is one of the new cafe entries to hit Port Melbourne, from an owner that once had a hand in Hardware Society. It’s a breath of fresh foodie air in this industrial area, set up in a building which was once the Red Tulip Easter egg factory.
Gastrology
Burrowed in the industrial side streets of Port Melbourne, Punchbowl Canteen is a local escape from the rush in Bay Street and delivers a brunch oasis of nourishing and delicious options. . Occupying the space that was one the old Salford Lads Club and in another era, the Red Tulip Easter Egg Factory in Fennel Street, the space is both striking and resplendent. A 10-foot mural brings colour and vibrancy while high lofty ceilings, expansive windows and splashes of brass throughout the venue, makes for a sunny and warm dining experience.
Hello. Imnikki
This place has changed management twice since I was last here and I'm hoping this time around they stay the same because everything is now ridiculously great. From the service to the food to the coffee and finally to the ambiance, I can't fault anything here. The floor staffs are ever so pleasant and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our coffee and our food - both taste and presentation were too notch. Being a sweet tooth, I couldn't go past the gingerbread milkshake and it was divine. No over the top toppings, just a tasty good old-fashion milkshake with the perfect consistency and flavour. The menu is full of delicious sounding dishes that I am sure to be back to try. I'm also a big fan of the pastel paintings on the walls; such a cutesy laid-back vibe that invites you to just sit back and relax.

If you are ever at Port Melbourne, I really highly recommend that you visit Punchbowl Canteen. Their interior design really reflect Melbourne quickly and colourful style. Their food selections are as colourful as the place. There are a range of delicious savoury and sweet selection, and if you want something light, I recommend to try their porridge. Overall, they have all sort of different dishes to choose from and they are all delicious!
The City Lane
Punchbowl Canteen is located in the industrial part of Port Melbourne – across the road from the Toyota offices and just around the corner from where the scenery turns suburban. What it offers for those who live and work nearby, or are willing to seek it out, is an array of tasty breakfast and lunch options.

Have been here a couple of times now and it was pretty good both times. The venue is beautiful and is definitely one of the nicer looking joints in the area.

The menu is pretty interesting with some left field stuff on it. Food is good without being amazing.

Definitely worth coming for something a bit different with a nice vibe.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Punchbowl Canteen’s bloggers lunch where I sampled thirteen dishes. Yes, THIRTEEN! Luckily I paced myself and had a small sample of each dish otherwise I would have been in a food coma no doubt. Now, when you think of the word ‘canteen,’ it is likely that you would associate that word with dim sims, chips, potato cakes, pies etc, however Punchbowl Canteen is far from the typical ‘canteen’ definition. Punchbowl is a vibrant cafe located in an industrial side of Port Melbourne that focuses on locally sourced and ethical produce and creating ‘mind blowing, finger lickin’, plate scraping food.

In the midst of the slightly industrial and commercial side of Port Melbourne is Punchbowl Canteen. The heavy brickwork and large continuous windows give away it’s factory origins, which gives the inside a light airiness. The menu is genuinely interesting, with plenty for breakfast and brunch, as you’d expect plus a fuller lunch menu than most. We sampled a great selection of them, perched as a veritable bevy of exotica stopped by the corner: A Lamborghini Aventador, A Ferrari 246 Dino, A Lotus Europa and a Porsche 911 Carrera S convertible (991).

Tucked away in the industrial part of Port Melbourne, Punchbowl Canteen is a big and bright cafe! Heaps of seats available, so no waiting! I ordered the pumpkin donuts with cinnamon sugar, whipped yogurt and freeze dried mandarin. Was delicious, also not too sweet either. My only criticism would be that it would be nice if it came with fresh orange or mandarin segments in addition to the freeze dried.

One of Melbourne's cafe that is proud to celebrate their local collective style, Punchbowl Canteen embrace the quirky pastel interior to create a vibrant space and vibe. Their concept is to create mind blowing, finger licking', plate scrapping dish that everyone enjoys. Even thought Punchbowl Canteen is fairly new in town, they came in strong by focusing on the quality of their creation from locally sourced produced. We had an opportunity to try not 1, not 2 but 13 of their mouth-watering dishes (yes, you read it right).

Had a really enjoyable brunch at Punchbowl Canteen today. Loved the unique menu and the bright and spacious venue. I ordered the fish cake scotch egg with pear, radish, chard and fennel salad and curry mayo. An interesting twist on a classic that worked really well. I especially loved the curry mayo. I also tried both the turmeric and matcha lattes which were tasty . My friend ordered the pumpkin doughnuts and commented that they were very light and nicely completely by the yoghurt. They didn't have an overly distinct pumpkin flavour though.

Punchbowl canteen isn’t your old school canteen. There’s no potato cakes or dimmies served by a suspiciously sweaty canteen lady. You don’t have to write your order on a paper bag and wait till the lunch bell rings. The warehouse interior, with bubble pop painted coloured walls, is light and airy, with a towering cacti reaching for the ceiling. Away from the Port Melbourne beachside, Punchbowl canteen has made its home amongst the suburbia side. City dwellers and locals will be chuffed, that their list of cafes is ever-expanding. If you’re a Pokemon Go player, there’s a park nearby classified as ‘lawn’, buzzing with Abras, Meowths and a Haunter. If you’re after some sea pokemon, a 4 minute drive to Port Melbourne beach, will grow your Magikarp collection, to evolve into the elusive Gyarados. I’ll leave that to you, there’s no way I can be bothered catching 100s of those splashing plebs.

Came for breakfast with my 4 year old before work, tasty juices (recommend the Punchbowl) and beautiful scrambled eggs and plenty of them. Highly recommend.

Fun, light, airy space in industrial end of Port Melbs. Awesome service, inventive menu. Had the beef cheek Ruben that was an absolute ripper of a sandwich.

A Really cool and quirky cafe and the food was amazing! I ordered the fish cake scotch eggs and Ive never had anything like it before!
Will definitely go back and try everything on the menu :)However, the coffee was a let down. I ordered 2 lattes here and both were very bitter and burnt...

A bright, open space with friendly staff.

We enjoyed a lovely filter coffee from Industry Beans, the chia pudding and the cauliflower fritters and everything was great. My friend also had the gingerbread milkshake and said it was stupid good.

Thanks guys!

Funky little cafe based in Port Melbourne. A massive improvement from the last cafe that was there. Been here a couple of times now and the food is A-MAZ-ING!!!

Had a pork belly sanga the first time I went, the skin was so crispy and perfect and the flavours are just so yummy! And they don't skimp on the amount of skin either!

My second visit, I had a Korean Fried Chicken Burger! OMG, the deliciousness cannot be explained.

I will definitely be back! #happycustomer
