Review La Porchetta - Melbourne

Emily K
Great experience made even better by lovely staff. The food was very high quality with fresh ingredients. We shared 3 pizzas and a pasta between 6. This suited well as we had coffee and shared dessert too. Online booking was easy and we wouldn't hesitate to come again.

This is a lovely little Italian pizzeria. They have an extensive menu and the quality of ingredients is excellent. Ordered two white pizzas. The Wagyu pizza is truly unique and I would recommend over any other. Every other pizza is a standard pizza you can find anywhere. Service was great. Overall, this was a lovely experience and feel like a little Italy.

🍤 prawns & zucchini 🍕 margherita 🍝 salmon ravioli 🎃 zucca pumpkin & italian sausage 🍅 lasagne croquette 🧀 stracciatella cheese dip 🍄 truffled mushroom dip 🥩 beef bresaola carpaccio 🥗 radicchio treviso 🏠: @39pizzeria 📍: Little Bourke St, Melbourne 📝: Have you visited +39 Pizzeria yet? They’ve got a branch in the city as well as Toorak. Do you know that the name of the pizzirra, +39, came from the international dialling code for Italy. Just how cute is that! ❤️: Visited twice in a month because their pizzas were just so good! The best part is they even have an option for you to order dips (pesto, cheese, mushroom & truffle) to eat with the pizza crusts. I definitely recommend the 🥒🍤 Prawn & Zucchini Pizza as well as the 🎃 Pumpkin Pizza. They were DELISH 😍

Came here on Friday night, so clearly they were crazily busy. But we got seated really quick, food came quick and was delicious 🤤 the server was really patient and nice which must take efforts. Much appreciated🫡

A great 4 star pizzeria. The kind of place that you do a hit and run meal. Menu is basic, but the food is good. Love the crushed ice in the drinks, so simple but makes a difference. Really appreciated being able to get a good 4 cheese pizza. Its actually really hard to find a good 4 cheese pizza. I added pepperoni to make it the best!

Staffs are friendly and efficient. Focaccia is good. Right amount of fluffiness and crisp on the outside. Fresh pasta marinara is pure heaven. Perfectly cooked pasta, nice bite to it, well seasoned. Great food!

Brilliant! Attentive service, excellent food. Wait staff scanning for eye contact from customers, friendly but not familiar staff. Kitchen staff having fun as well as working. Oh those anchovies!! So delicious.

I thought the pizza was pretty nice and crunchy with a thin base. I enjoyed it a lot. I usually get capprisocca and there were anchovies which were yummy :) <br/><br/>The sticky date pudding was pretty good too. The toffee sauce was really nice but the sticky date pudding itself was so cakey and I didn't end up finishing half of it.

Whilst some may think my blog has hit rock bottom if I'm choosing to write about Italian inspired food chain La Porchetta - my recent experience at the La Porchetta in North Melbourne made it blog-worthy.  . To start with, the food is cheap - and huge.  Offering both entree and main servings of pasta, the main size could easily feed two people.  On this occasion we went with the Gnocchi pesto and the Fettuccine Pollo e Funghi.  With its lack of flavour and overcooked gnocchi - the pesto gnocchi was unfortunately a miss. The Pollo e Funghi however, was surprisingly rich, but not too creamy, and the fettucini was cooked to perfection.

Came here with my wife for dinner. We ordered a pizza capricciosa and tortellini a la matriciana. The pizza arrived first for some reason and my dish arrived around 20 minutes later when my wife had already finished her pizza. The pizza was not good at all! The pizza base looked like it's bought up frozen from the supermarket and it has really cheap ham as well. They also add way too many toppings. The ratio of tomato sauce and cheese is not really good at all. You can barely taste tomato sauce and this makes the pizza taste dry. Mushrooms were undercooked as well...I wouldn't eat pizza here again. I will go ahead and say that you can get better pizzas at Domino's.<br/><br/>Tortellini were completely overcooked. Not really much care in the sauce either. Bacon unevenly cut, etc. I was not happy with this experience. We've been in several italian restaurants in Melbourne and Italy, and I can safely say this has been the worst pasta and pizza we've ever had.<br/><br/>The only positive was the ambience of the place.

I really enjoy their gluten free pizza with The Lot. And, their Deluxe Pescatore with big prawns and calamari. Have been all over the world, this La Porchetta's pizza is the best. Lots of topping. Crispy base. It's not Roman style, ultra thin but just the right amount of doughyness and crispy. I need to ask for extra cheese as they are light handed with the cheese. It's an extra charge but, worth it. The new shop in Victoria Street takes away the franchise ambiance. It has turned it into an upmarket restaurant at La Porchetta prices. Some of the staff who work here have been there for as long as I can remember.

Absoultely horrible customer service! Ordered a large meatlovers pizza online on the 24th of Dec via the La Porchetta website, which was showing the store was open and payment was taken via credit card. Arrived at the store 15 minutes later expecting to pick up my order, only to find it closed! Surely you would think when the store reopened, the staff would realize there's a bunch of online orders that came through when they were closed and they would be following that up with the customer details which we provide when ordering online (Name, Email, Mobile Number) for a refund or replacement. I have tried emailing and calling the store but still have not received a response. After visiting this store for the past 15 years occasionally, I'm absolutely disgusted (I feel that they just stolen my money) by this experience and will never return again.

La Pochetta restaurants are dotted all over Australia and I used to frequent this one the most during my student days. I still revisit occasionally out of habit but sadly with every recent visit, the venue just seems to be getting more and more tired looking. Food-wise, they've dropped the ball and don't seem to be bothered to pick it up.<br/><br/>My carbonara, although creamy with perfectly cooked pasta, was bland af; I had to blanket it all with the provided pepper and Tabasco. It needed salt too but the health-conscious angel on my shoulder stopped me.<br/><br/>Pizza was so-so. My house mate reminded us mid-meal, that the one near our apartment has more toppings and cheaper too - which made this one harder to stomach.<br/><br/>Sad to give this institution-of-yore a low rating... a tiny bit inside of me does wish it'll get revitalised!

La Porchetta is one of the biggest Italian restaurant franchises in Australia.<br/>You might find that the food, service, and taste are not consistent among branches due to different owners.<br/>We went to one of the branches situated just in front of Victoria Market.<br/><br/>The restaurant is spacious and plenty of seats available.<br/>The vibe and atmosphere in this restaurant was pretty good and cosy.<br/><br/>As soon as you arrive, you will get a complimentary bread with butter on the side.<br/>We ordered:<br/>- half meat lovers / half the lot large pizza for $18.90.<br/>The pizza was served in the proper size and generous portion of all ingredients.<br/>Unfortunately, the meats in meat lovers pizza were very dry and lack of seasoning.<br/>The taste of the pizza base was very average and we didn't find any special in this pizza.<br/>Slightly disappointed as we had a little bit high expectation when we came to this Italian restaurant<br/><br/>- Fettucinne Carbonara (main size) for $18.90.<br/>The carbonara was creamy, served warm in generous portion.<br/>Obviously, it wasn't the best carbonara we've ever tried as it was very tasteless and bland.<br/>What a shame! we couldn't believe it for such a well known Italian restaurant, they failed to make a proper carbonara.<br/><br/>Overall, we neither really enjoyed the pizza nor carbonara.<br/>We're curious to come back to different branch and try to compare the pizza and carbonara.Unfortunately, we would opt our this branch in our recommended list of restaurants.<br/><br/>Price: 3.0<br/>Speed: 3.0<br/>Taste: 2.0<br/>Service: 3.0<br/><br/>Location: 308 Victoria Street, North Melbourne, Melbourne <br/>Phone: 03 9326 9884<br/>Website: laporchetta.com

First and last time I will go to this place. Went here thanks to a friend who recommended it for me. I ordered a pesto pasta dish and it was delicious I must admit but not even at the end of the day I ended up sick and went to the hospital from food poisioning. I don't feel comfortable going back there any time soon.
Good Food Good Mood
La P always makes me feel nostalgic. I've eaten more pizza and pasta than I care to remember in their various locations throughout Melbourne. The North Melbourne branch is one of my favourites as I know it will always be high quality which can sometimes be hit and miss with a chain. I get the BBQ chicken pizza or the avocado chicken fettuccine. Both absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. Family friendly and casual it's my ideal stop after a morning of shopping at Vic market

Service was absolutely horrible. Waiter did not understand English or what was on the menu. My plate and cutlery was snatched away rudely from me mid conversation while talking to my partner that had not finished her meal yet.
Paul
Considering this is a pizza shop, the pizzas were a bag of wank. Dry, tasteless, burnt. Friday night downtown Melbourne nobody in there, not suprising.

The serving staff gets a 4 star, the food itself gets a 1.5 star! Have visited this place since the mid 90s. The restaurant needs a reno asap. I've notice the food has gone down-hill, maybe in the last 2 yrs. Of the 2 times I ordered the Cannelloni, its always not hot in the middle, and the pasta has some dry bit (not cook or microwave too long). The pizzas are oily and dry. Even the pasta is not cooked evenly, some strains have small dry bits at the end. The serving size is small compare to other similar restaurant. A Main and Entree pasta here is equivalent to a Main at other places. So price wise, its not good value at all. I will not visit willingly again. Look around for other restaurants, its a very competitive business, especially in inner city.<br/><br/>Update 17 Sep 2018. Moved. Not at 308 Victoria Rd North Melbourne.

No sauce on the veggie pizza. This place has gone down hill! The Margherita was not bad though. Prices are quite high considering the competition that's around

This one is the original La Porchetta. I dine at this place since 1995. The food is usually good. The service is up and down, but never mind it. It locates at convenience location and offers a value for money.
MandyToorak
Close to the markets this is popular. But we ordered a pizza and I can't speak very highly of it. Italian Sausage flavour which worked well in flavour but was quite oily but not the olive oil type. <br/>Saucy comment made towards s/o, conflicting feelings..

This is one of the best La Porchetta restaurants you will visit. Good management I think makes a big difference and it filters down to their staff. Pizza seem better quality than other locations. Not my closest La Porcehetta but the one I have visited most.
Food Lover
Went in a group of 5 and food was pretty close to perfect except the fact that it was a slight bit bland but apart from that food was great.<br/>Service was extremely friendly and super quick. Each server made sure that each and every requested asked for was made to special specifications.<br/>My experience here was pretty great I will most certainly be back.<br/><br/>Thanks La Porchetta🍝🍕

$29.9 for seafood PLATTER.. What a shame<br/>I definitely will not come back again.. I can get same price with better size in other italian restaurant in camberwell!

Such good food for the price, very family friendly and always helpful. The salads are HUGE! Also the pizza range is diverse and the crusts delicious. And the bread rolls too.

Location is nice as it's just outside the busy CBD so parking can be a bit okay. The restaurant is quite spacious and decor is pleasant for an "Italian restaurant ". As for the cleanliness it was quite sticky and not well polished. Starting of with what I came for which was the food the menu was quite decent from pizzas to pastas they had what an Italian restaurant is suppose to have. However having those dishes doesn't mean that the restaurant was actually any good if the food isn't good. Ordered the Marinara pizza and that was quite upsetting how it came out. It was way to doughy with the cheese being bit oily with the shrimp too rubbery and mussels way too grainy with sand. My favorite Italian dish is lasagna however La Porchetta lasagna is my least favorite. Obviously not fresh and not steaming hot which leads me to think it was either not put in the oven long enough or it wasn't microwaved long enough. I would pick a supermarket frozen lasagna over La Porchetta anyday. The dessert however was surprisingly good the ice cream was just like what I would get on the streets of Italy but you can't really mess up something that wasn't made in house. Overall eating here was a mistake with overprice dishes for such low quality food. Service was okay on par with most McDonald's.

Made an order through the La Porchetta online on Easter Sunday and when we went to the restaurant. It was closed yet we will still charged. Called the next day to ask for a refund and was told it should be resolved within a week. A week later. No money. Called again and was advised, the owner will contact the online company and have this matter resolved. Another week later, still no money. I called today and asked for the manager to assist me, yet, not helpful and was instead rude. And tried to push the blame forward to the online company. I'm not asking them to pay me. I'm asking for my issue to followed up so I can get my money back but La Porchetta North Melbourne holds no responsibility and interest in returning my money. How is this woman even a manager? Instead of trying to understand my situation, she continuously tries to push forward the blame through a condescending manner. She also did not acknowledge me as a customer. It's been over a month and I still haven't yet to be reimbursed. This is actually illegal by taking someones money and refusing to pay for it back. I don't care if there's another online company involved. The process of ordering on the La Porchetta site is between their own contract. I have no contact details of this outsource company so how else am I going to get my money back? Is it wrong for me to ask nicely for my money back which has been not paid for over a month. Whatever the amount is, it's about the responsibility and trust to customers. The restaurant should also have not been listed as "Open" online if it was restaurant is closed. Overall, one of the worst experiences of my life and I haven't even eaten there yet. What a first impression.

Not much has changed in decades. Pizza and dessert are still good. I wouldn't recommend anything else. I'd only come here if I'm invited for special occasions.

The service was ok even if the venue is noisy when busy. I ordered a cappricosia pizza of which the meat and mushroom topping kept falling off all over my plate and table. Personally that's not my type of eating pizza but others might like the fact it's definitely more knife and fork styled pizza. Would not come again.

Some people are never happy! Reading some of the reviews you would think La Porchetta was horrible. What do you expect for a 12 dollar pizza. It's never going to be upmarket food. But in terms of value, it's the best!

This restaurant is a 'MUST' everytime I visits Melbourne. Even scumacher once eat here (you can see in one of the photo they are hanging on the wall).<br/>It's tasty Pizza that won't dig a hole in your pocket.<br/>I've been to bologna, South Italy & I feel that La Porchetta is the closest or similar to the pizza taste that I found comparable to the real general Italian restaurants.<br/>My all time favourite is the tortellini carbonara & the original porchetta pizza.<br/>But anything that you order is good or great taste.<br/>If you are on a budget, just order a small pizza or small pasta & ask for the free bread with butter & free tap water.<br/>Or otherwise if you aren't on a diet or on your cheat day, get the tiramisu or the ice cream.<br/>It the cheapest Italian Ice Cream you can find.<br/>& a Beer or chinotto might be a perfect companion.<br/>

Had the most beautiful meal there last night. Great service and the most wonderful waitress, Kym. All the best in your travels girl. It is by far the best La Porchetta I have ever been to.<br/>Well done guys.
Kimmy_desu
Thought this was meant to be one of the best La Porchetta branches in Melbourne, but was disappointed when their seafood platter came out tasting really bland and overcooked, with very little to suffice for a $28 dish. The pasta also tasted bland and oily, I had to put a lot of pepper in to even get some flavor.
Mmaria1830
Bad experience. I went to eat at porchetta and everything was not to my satisfaction cutlery wouldn't even cut through the pizza and then my order was sent to wrong tableand i got some one Else's order not very good staff and there English was very poor they need to unprove the service and also their menu never changes always the same old boring food

Disregard bad reviews below. I love going to this place. Don't agree with the critical reviews. This place should be rated at least 85%+++. The staff are great and always welcoming. Love the warm chicken salad and don't forget to ask for the free pizza dough bread. Produce from the market next door means it is always fresh. It's great here. Was sad to read the poor reviews cause this place is awesome. Way better than other trendier places around, for way better value and taste. Will be back.

Creepy staff. The food is JUST passable, but what is really disconcerting about this particular outlet is the staff. They give you scant regard, shoot sideways glances and knowing looks at each other when you order, and, quite frankly, i dont understand why any manager would tolerate this level of macho boys-club behaviour in their establishment. <br/><br/>Be warned, this bahaviour should never be acceptible in the 'hospitality' industry. Disgusting.

AT LAST, I'VE FOUND THE NEW LA PORCHETTA, NORTH MELBOURNE, AT 480 VICTORIA ST, NORTH MELBOURNE, 200 METRES FROM ERROL ST, AND IT'S GREAT: JUST LIKE A SMART BISTRO WITH TRADITION THAT YOU DISCOVER IN ROME. Fiona seated me and swiftly delivered a very cold Peroni and cold glass and I put in an order for the long missed veal schnitzel, and I was delighted: two large pieces of real veal, that's real veal, crumbed, with chips and salad on the side and a huge plate of steamed broccoli and cauliflower; with excellent red wine, I was indeed at home, and next time I'm in Melbourne I'll try the pizza.  Excellent team and food in a great atmosphere. J

Food is ok, average, expensive too for a family restaurant.. The service is terrible, they annoy you while your eating & stand there watching you eat, also the place needs a good clean, very dirty inside
Incognito
The best La Porcheta in Melbourne. For some reason the food does not taste the same in every La Porchetta. The other La Porchetta always let me down but this one is pretty consistent.
Roger Ramjet
Awful staff, awful food, awful service. Be wary that they dont try to short change and overcharge you. Dodgy as dodgy can get
Fang
Good food, good prices, service reasonable

La Porchetta North Melbourne staff are so incredibly rude it makes the eating atmosphere very unpleasant and not welcoming. I would not at all recommend going to this La Porchetta. They really need to have better customer service skills as they are in the hospitality industry.
Dide
Very disappointing. Food was bland & generic. Staff looked disinterested, no friendly smiles or greetings. Tried to clear our food & drinks twice before we'd finished. Staff standing around chatting. Why would anyone choose to return here?
Louis Kuhlmann
Really good simple Italian food at decent prices. A family favourite
Kevin Lee
Pretty Affordable. It's good value for money and can always rely on the quality of pizza and pasta. Had the mixed grill platter which turn out rather dry and bland without any seasoning. Should have stuck with the usual ceasar and steak instead.
KewMeister
Oh so close. I've been to many La Porchetta restaurants now. Budget food with expensive drinks (excluding the house wines). Mixed Drinks are now cheaper than a stubbies of beer in most cases. Must confess that the Schnitzels & Salad are hard to pass if you need a quick & filling meal. Why this particular La Porchetta gets special mention is that it is a great place to meet friends before walking down to Festival Hall to see some live Music.
Philipp
Good food but unfriendly. The pizza is pretty good and not too expensive.<br/>Staff is rather unfriendly, but since I only use it for take away, I don't mind.
Kangaroosmate
Great value. Went there for a quick meal, ordered 3 pastas and 1 salad, great taste and value, friendly staff, a bit busy tho; wish the Queen Vic Market is open 7 days a week!
MissMelburnian
A great place for solid, consistent good food.. Whenever we can't think of any other new places to go, or want something hearty, "Western" and traditional, La Porchetta pops up as an option. Its not a fall back option when we have no other ideas but instead when we just want good, old fashioned heart fare and can't be fussed to try any other new fancy place with novel dishes and cooking techniques.<br/>Aside from having great opening hours, this North Melbourne LP serves some great food. I've tried LP's in other areas (e.g. St Kilda, Doncaster, etc) and so far this probably has the most consistent tasting - quality and taste - out of the other LPs.<br/><br/>Till date, I've sampled quite a few parmas (chicken parmigiana) in and around Melbourne, including pub grub and restaurants, but somehow North Melbourne LP's parma hits the right spot.<br/>You can opt for steamed veggies instead of fries - because I dislike the taste of french fries and two oily dishes just don't wash down well together in my opinion. Their selection of steamed veggies are well balanced; a small serve of carb in the form of a baby potato, and a good, generous handful of colourful steamed veggies that might have also been sauteed in butter or olive oil because they taste so damn good!<br/>The parma is huge, always well cooked and topped with cheese and tomato - very tasty!<br/><br/>Their pastas and pizzas are usually also pretty solid.<br/><br/>Most occasions my group will have a salad, pasta, pizza and parma to share together with a jug of soft drink or table water. You'll always have something to take home in a doggy bag even if you order a dish a person.<br/><br/>Dinner time means you get a basket of warm bread rolls with butter to share amongst your group while waiting for your food.<br/>Till date there has been no instance of bad service, though service isn't spectacular either, but its fine and I tip based on level of service - and I tend to tip well if service is better than average.<br/><br/>Unless you're going on a date, its a great place to drop by for dinner with friends or family - great atmosphere and great food.

The only la porchetta that's actually decent in town! good food and great prices.

Our family loves this la porchetta. It is the best of them all. Fast service and very nice staff. Try the gnocchi pesto and you will be back. We always make a point of going there when visiting the city. The family can eat for $50

Best La Porchetta in town. Generally not a big fan of La Porchetta, but North Melbourne is hands down is the most consistent when it comes to quality and service.<br/>Chicken parma never disappoints. <br/>Feeling like La Porchetta? It's well worth the extra drive!

Re found my childhood memories. Deep in my memory, I remember when I was a little teenao ger, there is this nice Italian restaurant, serve big and nice pizza. I go there with parents during weekend after helping them shopping at the Victoria Market, and that was my treat for the "hard work"~`<br/><br/>Not until few years ago, finally I am back! so it is, La Porchetta at North Melbourne, I think it is da biggest La Porchetta store in Melbourne (correct me if I am wrong). Still the same old setting, still the outstanding taste! They still serving that supreme size pizza, which I still wondering who did I finish half of it when I was a little boy~~ <br/><br/>Been tring pizza all over Melbourne during the years, but none could match up La Porchetta North Melbourne, intense flavour with beautifully melted cheese! In my last visit, also realise the pocket pizza (especially the cheese one) are simply sensational! <br/>Pasta are nice as well. Just like itspizzas, got a wide range of choices, different styles fit for different preferences. <br/><br/>Often see families, schools and friends functions/gathering on those long tables, seeing the kids enjoying their meals, just like back to my old days, feeling like a kid again!<br/><br/>* I do believe it is thebest family restaurant in Melbourne

Not bad for a chain. We used to get La Porchetta pizzas brought to the hospital, since it was close by. They were acceptable. I popped into the actual place a couple of times because I had a discount offer deal, and it wasn't too bad. The bloke making the pizzas the last time I was there seemed to be having a good time, twirling the dough in the air and chatting to people who were watching him do it. Entertaining!

Herd of cheese chef?. Meat lovers pizza, hard to make no, salami, ham lamb and chorizo cheese.<br/><br/>La Porchetta manage to ruin that simple pizza. Dry pizza, nasty nap sause, no real meat on.<br/><br/>Worst meal i have had in melbourne, the to top it off they would'nt split the bill or give me change !!!!<br/><br/>Go to vic market and get a sandwich !
Loz
Most disgusting pizza I have eaten. Was meant to be Italian sausage - looked more like rat meat. Very disappointed, feel that they have gone for cheap mass produced food, and lost the authetic passion for food.
Arthurguru
After meeting/sport/seminar dining. Although this Victoria market franchise plays second fiddle to the original in Carlton I think the food is slightly better. This is not fine dining, however the food is fresh, the service is quick, the price is very affordable, and the atmosphere is busy, busy, busy.
