Review The Beanstalk Cafe - Melbourne

Ali “Jeff” Jafari
Wow... If you are looking for healthy options around this side of town look no further! Some 16 different salads, made fresh daily with heaps of choices for protein to add to the salads. I had the grilled salmon which also comes with the choice of 2 sides and it was fantastic. I will definitely go back to try all salad combos and also try the soup. Good ambiance with both indoor and outdoor seating, ok decor and an open kitchen that you can have a look through. Cons would be: - Finding parking (it's mostly pay parking but even that's hard to come by) - The staff looked exhausted (it gets really busy and they were flatout) and less friendly than usual places - Salads finish really quickly so you have to be there 12-ish - portion size was a bit small (or I was too hungry on the day - see photos) Overall a must try, I highly recommend

Perhaps the best burger joint in Docklands, I know I'm always in for a solid burger when I come here! Meat is cooked just right with some pink in the middle, bun is as soft as you like, and the sauces bring all the flavours together just perfect. Pictured here is the Streets of Docklands burger. Oh and the chips are a 5/5 on their own! Very cool menu and fairly priced, definitely a must visit if you're hungry in Docklands! - MustBeHungry

These guys prove that salad doesnt need to be boring. On any given day you ll get to see atleast 15 different types of salads and they keep changing the types. They cater for everyone. They taste pretty good too. The large salad lets you mix 3 of their yummy salads. And their service is fast. Taste - 5, Quantity - 5, Value for money - 4

Food looks great, but I was here for the coffee. Big fan or Bean Cartel coffee and this place is one of the only in the area to use it. Came at lunch time, but got served quick and coffee was ready fast. Good flavours, although a bit hot for my liking. Made on a striking yellow La Marzocco. $4.10 is a bit of an odd price, but I'll definitely be back.

Good salad selection and friendly service. Very busy during weekday lunch time.

You must be early to enjoy delicious selection of salads, so make sure you get in before 12:30... Nice location and excellent salads, highly recommended.

$16 Was very reasonable for a very nice burger, large chips and 600ml coke. Quality of food was fantastic. Competency of the wait staff was where it fell apart. Although my colleague and myself ordered pretty much together, was a long wait between him receiving his meal and me receiving mine. Then we were also interrupted periodically to be asked if other meals that belonged to others were ours. Fix up the waiter competency issue and it's a fairly easy 4 1/2 - 5 stars!

Disappointed.....Dirty buckets of water are dumped in the sink where food are prep.......Staff not always paid on time!!!!....Now before you take me to Court for defamation base on this statements......Think about the OH&S procedures that should have been in place/implemented.......Think about the dedicated staff who spend extra money just to arrive work comfortably i.e. Car park $20- Fuel $70- Toll ways $20- Yet, not paid on time to be able to cover those expenses which are work & travel related overheads. Oh Yeah, you really expect me to eat that food??? No thanks, it's not safe......We have just gotten over a stage 4 pandemic restrictions here in Melbourne. I prefer to stay safe.

This is one of those places that you are very close to but have never been to.
So this place is right below my office in the same building, 800 Collins street.
As per my colleagues, this place serves great salads. But I sure as hell am not much of a salad fan myself but I had to try this once for the sake of exploring what it is all about.
I ordered chicken Parma salad as it was one of the only available options at the point of time when I was there. I was late. Like, really late. Not their fault 😁.

So as soon as the dish came in, I was amazed by the looks of it. It looked so beautiful. I was ofcourse surprised by the fact that, there were fries in the salad but I love surprises and this was surely one of those.
The chicken fillet was pretty good and huge too. It had the salad on the side to compliment it.
The salad was a little sweet for my taste and it had the berries in it which was the culprit.
Had it been a smaller portion, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot. But since, it was too much, I kind of grinded my way through finishing the dish.
All in all for me, it was a positive experience. I liked the dish. And surely, more new dish tries to come.

Loved the ambiance.
Great music and seating.

Food not expensive.
We ordered a chicken burger and a beef burger. Quite filling.
Chips and one of the burger was a little cold.
Over all 4 out of 5.

Quite possibly the worst dining experience in Docklands, and that’s really saying something. Paid for a sparkling water that after I paid for it, was told they didn’t have in stock. I then asked for a refund that never came - the staff just avoided eye contact walking pst. Didnt have cutlery for anyone to eat there, just empty cutlery containers when tables were set up for diners to sit. Asked twice and got no service. Chicken salad tasted a little strange, so only ate a little of it and now have a very upset stomach so god knows what happened to it. Never again. Go next door to Pokebay or A25.

Tucked right under Myer HQ building, Street Kitchen Co is definitely geared for the corporate workers in the area as they have a quick eating option (salad bar) and also an opportunity to dine in.

Ordered:
🥗 Large salad: 3 options from the salad bar ($13.00)
🍟 Nacho Fries: fries with cheese, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, jalapenos & spring onion ($9.50)

Review:
With regards to the salad bar, there were a great number of options available to make your salad. I wouldn't recommend the wontons - they're too chewy when cold.
However, would highly suggest the Sirarcha mayo because that truly made the dish for me! It binds the different salads together so well.

How it works is: you order your size of salad from the cash registers, then wait as they call your number from behind the salad bar. Then, choose your poisons of choice and they'll give you a smattering option of sauces to top it all off.
To summarise: at Street Kitchen Co. you pay first!

Nacho Fries were decent. I laughed at how they melted a whole sheet of cheese onto the chips... instead of your typical sprinkled cheese over the top. Seeing a whole chip draped in cheese was awesome! Yet flavour wise, not ideal.

I ordered a sushiburrito, take away, when it arrived , I realised it was different to what I ordered , explained this , then was questioned about my order by a couple of people. Was told it was being remade, no apology when I received it , ! When I got back to the office , was still the one I didn't order, not OK , .......and potentially unsafe for those that have allergies etc

Been here more than a few times over the years for a quick decent burger. I alway order the basic burger (vic harbour) with the side chips. Chrips are awesome and burger is well cooked and presented.

Super friendly staff! Walked in to get something and the waiter insisted that she get it for me. Good service! Fries are to die for, great seasoning! Burgers are nice, extra sauce and relish in the burgs would've given this review a 5 star

A few colleagues have been quite raving about streets kitchen in recent timed and so I tagged along on their most recent visit. The cafe itself is quite well presented by Docklands standards although quite cold. The fresh salads behind the counter looked good and a lot of people seemed to be going for that but I wasn’t here for no salads The main reason folks from my office come here are for the fusion Asian burgers.

I chose the Streets of Shanghai in a burger. This grilled chicken burger has a sizeable amount of chicken along with pickled carrots, greens, cumcumber and hoisin. Tasty combo and my burger also had coriander which took me a little bit south of Shanghai but was a welcome inclusion.

Add one of various combos including a salad one to your burger or wrap order but for me the burger itself was filling enough for a work day lunch.

The food here was delicious. However I was absolutely appalled at the environment of the place! Disgusted at the behaviour from certain members of staff! The stress given off by he members of staff reflects bad on the customers and made me feel so out of place stood waiting for my salad! I witnessed the the guy making coffees actually whistle at a staff member like a dog!! And shouting at members of staff I front of customers, I felt so embarrassed for the poor staff!! Everyone seems to be running around and flapping and so unhappy! I have worked in hospitality for many years and understand how stressful it can be, but to maintain healthy and professional service respect must be portrayed when working in such a busy environment and I can clearly see that the staff are so unhappy! I feel literal blood sweat and tears have gone into my salad which is not good! I enjoy my food but also enjoy eating and receiving my food in a happy atmosphere. Making good food is one thing but it means a whole lot more to me when I leave a place feeling like the service is 100 percent and here it definitely is not! Will not be going again!

The food is delicious. The service is fast, and the staff friendly and efficient. You have to get there early as the salads seem to sell out quite quickly. I thoroughly recommend.
Feuille De Lotus
This place has definitely lost their passion. I am back on no carbs diet again and was looking for fresh salads and some good protein options. Been here a few times and they pretty good previously. Now they sell out food very quickly and if you get there after 1pm you get bits and pieces that are left over.
Salads were nice and fresh but the protein is flavorless and stale. I wouldn't go back unless there's a big change.

Great place for some street food. Not crazy about the sushi roll. But the streets of New York wrap is the bomb. The burgers are great too, not very filling though.

This place sells a range of food for breakfast and lunch. We came for the burgers. I ordered the "Streets of Docklands" it was a special (not on the menu as yet) but was fairly close to the standard meat/salad combinations I usually order. The meat was delicious and not too firm. The salad was fresh and plentiful. The bun was fresh, and just the right texture. The bun is (almost) everything in a good burger, which makes this place one of Lean Guy's top burger picks of Australia.
The cheesy fries (which I did not partake) was a generous portion, and reportedly delicious.
GezaEats
Lunched by the docks and nearly lost the chips to the gulls. As for the buffalo chips crisp, with just the right amount of sauce drizzled all over, making it rich creamy and yummy. For $6.50, I am kinda torn cheap and not exactly a healthy option. On the plus side, being under $10, i can't fault that.

Constructive criticism not negative feedback. Four days in a row I've visited here with my colleague and the salads have been amazing. The serving sizes however have varied significantly. The first time it was generous. The second, third and fourth time I was served by the same blonde female who seems hesitant to spoon the salads and I've ended up with a large takeaway container 3/4 full. Today my colleague and I decided to test our theory. She ordered a small (2 salads) I ordered the large (3 salads). We worked it out in a way that she got served by the brunette female and I the usual blonde. To no surprise, the small salad contained more salad than the large salad the blonde female served. Perhaps something to look in to. The reason I decided to try this place was because I heard a number of colleagues speaking highly of the Value for money with the Salads. Now we're starting to second guess this.

In love with their salads. so many options, good decent serve for $11. Every option i have tried have been great. You cant go wrong! Staff are friendly too
Kiss And Eat Up
This place has always been a bit of a hit or miss venue even when it was beanstalk where the food was always average at best for the price point however they have redeemed themselves with the very large array of salads they now offer. They would easily have 10 - 15 salads on offer on rotation all with a wide range of ingredients on offer from mushroom , kale , Farro , Israeli cous cous , deconstructed sushi etc. Priced from $9 - $11 its very good value for docklands & all their salads use good quality & fresh ingredients. My top pick in Docklands for a healthy lunch.

Street Kitchen Co. has a fantastic Air-Fried Parma that comes with chips and salad at an affordable price. With a range of different salads to choose from, in my opinion is a must go to for a Parma for a work lunch 👍🏽

When it's good it's great.. I have had some really delicious lunches there - but it tends to.
be very inconsistent..

I've had the avo missed from what I have ordered the last two times I have been. One of those two times I got a lot of attitude when I asked for it to be fixed. I've had my order forgotten once, and my lunch buddies have experienced the same. Backed up with mixed attitude depending on who you get. Probebly won't head back there for a we while.

Had the beef short rib. It was good value and came with a side of chips & a salad of my choice. It was well cooked and I liked it, there was a bit too much sauce though. Can't really complain, just leave it.

The food was very salty, I was left needing a drink badly!
Biggiechee
I think their coffee is quite decent. Food on the other hand, can be a hit and miss. I ordered their salad for take away and I must admit it was quite bland. They seem to be popular with their burgers so that might be a good lunch choice.

By far the best cafe food I have had in Melbourne. It was an amazing breakfast with a bit of a difference about it. They even have gluten free options available

Nothing special & quite over priced.

When I first saw the Manu I was impressed that they had different burgers from cites across the world. So me and my friends brought different ones.

The burger tasted ok, I mean it didn't taste any better than what you'll buy at other basic restaurants, for the price I expected more.
Plus all almost looked the same, I think had almost the same ingredients and all, it's like they did a lazy "copy & paste" action, made some small changes, name it something different and charge different prices. It's like a really bad pun joke. There was nothing that set it apart from other places, aside from the price tag.

So in short, if you wake up one day tell yourself
" I feel like having some overpriced burgers for lunch today."
Then this place is right for you. Because otherwise there are a lot of other places who make possibly make the same thing for less.
Unfortunately I need to change my review after today. Order seemed to get lost, got kept waiting for over 30 mins with everyone else getting their food around me. When I raised it with the one girl who was working the floor, she said she'd look into it but I watched and it took her five mins to even bother speaking to someone else (instead she dithered around putting away rubbish and other things that could have waited the one minute it took to chase up my order). My table was not cleared until my food came, and even then a random dirty coffee cup was left there. I had to go get my own cutlery (that's not the standard at this place). Food itself was pretty average - the salads were lackluster and a bit limp, and the chicken katsu very dry.

Not good enough for somewhere that caters to the lunch rush. I can't see myself coming back again.

*****************************

Ok I'm not sure why, maybe it's just been my choices so far here. But everything tastes like it has the same sauce. It's this sweet, smoky bbq style sauce. It's not terrible, but given that so far I've ordered a Streets of Hanoi burger, a Streets of New York burger and air fried katsu chicken, it's odd that they all taste like they have the same sauce.

Food is nice enough here, but that sauce. I don't know. I'm a bit perplexed by it.
Our Foodie Finds
From what used to be Bean Stalk Café which wad a boring corner store to what is now - a Docklands favourite lunch time destination, Street Kitchen brings something different to the concrete jungle that hasn't been seen before. To be fair, Docklands hasn't seen very much at all but Street Kitchen definitely hits the mark. It was almost as if Street Kitchen was the product of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmare transformation - Bean Stalk reborn.

Located on the corner shop of 800 Bourke, perfectly located in-between two of the majors in the finance industry and directly beside the Telecom giant, it certainly positions itself well for foot traffic.

You will find us here at least once or twice, maybe three times a week munching into one of their fresh delicious salads or a burger or Japanese burrito depending on how we're feeling on the day which ranges from katsu chicken, chicken tenderloin or beef/pork ribs which have all been named after a major city of the world. A favourite to have is the Streets of New York burrito as it packs a punch with the sriracha which usually leaves us tearing most days.

The staff here are really friendly, always very helpful from ordering, through to you leaving always waived off with a smile which is always great to see.

The café has both indoor and outside seating areas which during the warmer months of the year is always packed out. A mixture of corporate chic and classy contemporary is the best way I can describe their decor and layout which I guess its confusing in itself considering the name. I've been to many a street kitchen across the world and don't quite get the correlation but hey, serve great food with a smile and for a reasonable price, you'll continue to keep seeing us time and time again.

Make sure to hit up Street Kitchen whenever you're in Docklands and grab a feed. Just try and arrive before the rat race goes to lunch or arrive a little later around 2pm once they've all gone back to work. Till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!

Wow....what a great place with tremendous variety. Anyone who says anything negative is someone you probably shouldnt be friends with anyways. Just great food with so much to choose from. Start at the beginning of the menu and work your way through.

There was some big boots to fill on this corner location and Street Kitchen is doing so well. Really intersting japanese burritos and burgers with a variety of fillings. Highly recommend to break up the monotony of the usual docklands food.
Out And About
Desperate for coffee we stopped walked from the Melbourne Convention Centre to Street Kitchen Co. I can only comment on the coffee which was ok, they had a great setup and a hipster/grungy feel.

We finally got a chance to try this place for lunch a couple of weeks ago. Received a call an hour prior to our booking to confirm our reservation. It was a busy day but our big-ish table were accommodated appropriately. I had one of the spicy burgers and chocolate milkshake, both didn't disappoint. The service is always great. Vincent and John have always made us feel welcome and special! Pleasant coffee too, FYI.

Last Friday I went and tried what I thought was a new burger joint in Docklands but was informed it’s been around for a while. The place is called ‘Street Kitchen Co’ and at lunch time on a Friday is a busy place indeed.

I really like how the burgers are themed from cities around the world but what I really found fascinating is that you can get your burger in either the standard format or in what they dub a ‘Japanese Burrito’ that looks like a sushi roll. I wasn’t game enough so I went the standard burger but next time I will definitely try a Japanese Burrito.

So I ordered the ‘Streets of New York’, a chicken burger with spicy Buffalo wing sauce and the 70% dark chocolate and hazelnut milkshake. The place was busy but I felt I got my order in a timely manner on par with the rush of lunch orders going on.

Big ups to the fact that I got not one but two gargantuan sized napkins because if you’ve read my other burger reviews I get down and dirty with my burgers.

The burger was delicious! The Buffalo wing sauce had a near perfect level of hotness (me personally could’ve had it a little hotter, but for the general population I think it was perfect). The great thing about this burger was that although the staff was rushing due to the amount of orders they weren’t dousing the burgers in the sauce. There was a near perfect level of sauce, not too saucy and definitely not a drought.

The milkshake was awesome though I could only taste a hint of hazelnut.

Overall this place is a MUST visit when you’re down in Docklands.

The salad options here are next level, if u work in docklands and haven't tried this place out then your life is meaningless. I eat here so much i should get shares

This place is a gem. Ambiance and service are superb however, the food truly is to die for! Coffee is also amazing and this eatery is one of the treasures of Docklands. Faultless.

Great selection of lunch options, I love the new addition of tortilla options :)
Staff are always friendly even when it gets a little hectic around lunch time!

I recently caught up with a friend for breakfast and tried the NY bagel, really good twist on standard eggs ben, their chipotle mayo was a welcome addition. Coffee is worth going back for as well.

For a CBD cafe, this wasn't a bad choice amongst average looking options in Docklands.

I ordered the kale and corn fritters which came with avocado and bacon (and a chilli jam) I was pleasantly surprised; the portion was generous, it tasted fresh but best of all, the fritters appeared to have been cooked in a waffle type fashion rather than fried or worse still deep fried. This gave them a light, crisp finish which was great and tasted healthy.

Coffee was good and I thought that service was friendly and pleasant - give them a go.

Have tried the marinated grilled salmon with choice of salad ( picked greek) and fries. Tasty and nicely cooked fish served with some lemon. Also tried the lemongrass grilled chicken with the Israeli cous cous & roast vegetable salad. Also nice. Had the Japanese burrito - like a giant sushi roll. Did not love this unfortunately but might suit someone. Worth a try in the docklands area for lunch.

Really live this place. First went for a burger and it was just okay - the New York was too spicy.

I'm now getting Japanese burritos here religiously. They are very healthy and tasty. Also great contendements and also amazing chips. Awesome.

Hopefully still finding their feet
Salads mostly bulked up with carbs or chunky oversized veggies to fill boxes quickly.
I ended up with Chicken-less -Vietnamese CHICKEN slaw (was all slaw and no chicken)
Ran out of my 3rd salad so ended up with a bowl of cabbage.
Maybe next year
