Review Masters Of Burgerology - Melbourne

Ikee
Update: Recently launched a $7 lunch buffet (rice, 1 meat and 2 veg) and it's awesome value. They also have a $6.90 lunch burger special. Good service, great food at a good price, especially when dining in. They've got a $10 dine-in promo for a burger with chips. I had the Fratboy and I was surprised by how good it was. I was suggested the Waffle chips which looked great but was a bit too salty. They also make coffee so it's a good place to chill/study.

I visited Masers or Burgerology on Sunday after I found a great deal they had on Scoopon. It's located right opposite Melbourne University, so it's easy to get there by tram. I ordered the Buns N' Burner (Double Beef, Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese, Grilled Jalapeños, Onions, Spicy Mayo, On a Charcoal Bun). The burger was presented beautifully and it was really good. The beef patties were cooked to a perfect medium-rare and were juicy and packed with flavour. In addition, the grilled jalapeños really made all the flavours pop. As I side, I chose the skin-on potato fries, which are served with ketchup and your choice of another sauce (I got spicy mayo). They were well-seasoned, the serving was very generous, and, most importantly, they weren't soggy. As a last part to the deal, I got the Nutty Professor (Snickers) Supershake. Maybe it's because I'm not used to drinking shakes, but I found this too sweet with way too much cream. I'm not taking this into consideration for my review as it's the first time I've ever tried such a shake. Overall, neither my friend, nor I, managed to finish it all - there was so much yummy food on the table in front of us. The service we received was great and I just loved how lovely the girl behind he counter was. There are a couple of large, unisex toilets. And, talking of unisex, the venue supports LGBTQ clientele, which I thought was a great touch. I'm definitely going back to Masters or Burgerology as there's so much more I'd like to try. Highly recommended.

Haven't had a burger here yet but the milkshake was really good. Friendly service and made with care :)

Have been here twice now, first time the frat burger was absolutely amazing, perfect patty awesome bun. The second time I got the society burger everything was awesome again except the chicken was a little overcooked and you could taste the batter was a little burnt. The price of the burger was absolutely incredible though, which made up for the slight imperfection. Wait time the first day was 10 minutes, the second time 30/35 however it was obviously very busy (hump day 7:30pm) and the waiter apologised for the wait so all was well. Will definitely be coming back, make sure you make the most of the cheap hump day burgers (less than $7!!!) It says 4 stars but definitely would be 4.5 if possible.

Only been ordering the Veg/VN Woodstock burger. Really good burger, the soft bun might be discouraging for some people but it didn't really bother me. Their oreos milkshake is really good but then again I wasn't too keen on trying their syrup-based milkshake. Loaded fries is pretty GREAT, wish it was crisper though. Coffee is served all day long, perfect for that last coffee of the night before hitting the library.

Awesome burger place, we love drinking here after uni. They've got delicious burgers, and a good veg option, the patty wasn't too dry which I often find an issue. The staff are all really friendly and it's always clean and never too busy

I'm a regular customer at this restaurant and normally I would order their hot dogs which were exceptional!, although this was not the issue with the burgers. I decided to try the freshman burger and was expecting the same reaction I had to the hot dogs, but was disappointed as the beef was over cooked and dry, hardly any sauce and left a burnt taste to it. The bun was very mediocre very disappointed as I expected more for the price. service was rather slow at the cashier, but a fast delivery.

Burger was yummy... chicken batter was miss for me .... love the creative packaging overall really good .. mac n cheese fries weren't great . Tasted like Kraft in a box so didn't eat much of them but after this burger could you blame me ...mint milkshake was good .. I only took a star away for the chicken batter tasting battery and the mac n cheese fries .. uber eats delivered and I would highly recommend it I can't wait to try the other burgers after I do 3 weeks of gym exercise lol

I honestly think the 4 star review is fake. I had a vanilla milkshake, this should be easy right? It tastes artificial, I saw them pump in syrup and it’s too sweet. Wouldn’t recommend...

The burgers were great and the atmosphere is great in the shop! I will definitely visit the place again even if I live on he other side of the city!

Agree with previous review that says very greasy because it is very greasy. It gave me sore throat; even fast food restaurants never give me that kind of sore throat. The oil must have been very old and black. Also the 20% promo is a lie cause I asked but they said it doesnt valid because they had not distributed the flyer (but they had posted on insta lol). Speaking of new management, I don't think they do have one, services and foods are just the same; very unprofessional.

If you want a delicious, filling lunch and only have 7 dollars to spare make sure you come here for their amazing lunch buffet. They have a wide selection of Indian dishes to choose from such as curry chicken and vegetables too. I come here a lot for lunch because the lunch's great value.

If you want to spend a bit more they have great burgers and other Western snacks but most importantly the atmosphere here is relaxing and have friendly employees as well as the manager.

This is the infamous restaurant that my boyfriend and I always refer to as the one where we were both so full that neither of us could walk (oops!). We still had leftovers too!

I strongly dislike oil, but I was hungry and this place is right next to Melbourne Uni, so I decided to try it out. The burgers are really big, and so are the milkshakes… and the fries. Literally everything is just massive. I’m not sure if it was because of the substantial amounts of oil used to drench everything. I just felt too greasy and disgusting after. I have to acknowledge the interior design though. Although there aren’t many seats (there weren’t many people either, so that helped), the music and ambience was very positive and cheery. I liked the Ivy league logos on the wall and felt that was good design; relevant to the name of the place.

I would only recommend this place if you are a fan of junk food, or just craving a “pig-out session”.

Customer service is really bad, ask them for water several times, but just ignore me. I highly suspect the man at the front order table is a racist. Can not image they provide this nasty service to uni students.

Two waitering ladies at the restaurant were extremely nice and welcoming to me every single time I went there. But here comes the owner. They have a promotion deal of $13 including a burger and small portion of fries. But the OWNER insisted to ask me to show my student ID, which was not with me. I was totally fine with getting it as the place is not far from where I’m living. But his attitude is really rude and unprofessional. Quote ‘I’m the owner and I want u to show an ID, u show the ID.’ First, there is no single word on the flyer saying I should bring a student ID. Second, I was never asked to show it when I ordered the promotional box before. Third, I really don’t care if you r the owner, I care about being treated as a nice and loyal customer and what he did made me put this visit the last one, throw the burger in garbage and had my lunch at the Chinese restaurant next to it. What a shame!

Was so excited to try the burgers here after seeing the amazing pics and reviews ... but unfortunately my experience ordering via ubereats was not the quite the same. The fried chicken was barely there - the smallest piece I have ever seen and tasteless - and the buns were cold and dry. I was so hoping this would be the burger of my dreams but alas it wasn't. I wouldn't try again.

Great atmosphere, easy parking for a quick mea! The service was awesome with the waiter being very friendly and welcoming!! We had milkshakes and chips but will be back for burgers

Went down to master of burgerology to see if it lived up to all the hype, and it very well and truly did!

I ordered the buns n burger, which was one of the best burgers id ever had! Meat was amazing, juicy and soft, the charcoal bun gave it something a little bit extra. If i was to pick one fault is that it was a little messy, but thats knitpicking

I also ordered a sorority chick, which was a little underwhelming. The bun and trimings were good, but the chicken itself was not the best, could have just been the piece i got, so ill give the benefit of the doubt!

The onion rings were crispy and delicious, and not too heavy, as were the chips!!!

A great burger joint worth another visit for sure!!!

Ivy League Burger 😍👌🏻😍👌🏻 chicken + beef + bacon = yashhh❤️ the burger is really lovely~
Sweet potato fries just okay~ tasty :)
And.. high flyer specialty shake. If you like sweet, i recommend this one. If not... please dont. Haha because it is really sweet. Haha

Came back for the 2nd time and definitely not coming back ever again!!

The manager / owner was very rude and dismissive tonight. When we queried about our order 30 minutes in, he simply replied 'I don't think so' in a disinterested manner and simply walked away.

When the foods arrived, buns were cold and fried chicken was visibly way overcooked - black and tough. My friends and I can't be bothered to raise a complaint. Apart from the sweet potato fries, foods were average. Save your time and money - go elsewhere.
Hello. Imnikki
Aptly situated near University of Melbourne, Master of Burgerology is a university-themed burger joint serving ridiculously indulgent burgers, hot dogs, fries and milkshakes. There was only one waitstaff in duty when we dropped by, and she is the epitome of quality over quantity. She was truly a star - taking orders, cleaning up the tables, delivering the food, checking up on customers, manning the register, and all while finding time to chat with customers.

She was however, in a good way, overshadowed by the superb burgers. Delicious is an understatement. Each and every element contributed to create an amazing burger, starting from the crunchy lettuce, sweet tomatoes, a generous slab of melted cheese, juicy patties, tasty sauce and soft buns. The Buns N Burner burger had the extra element of spice from the jalapeños and the smoky sweetness of the onions, while the Ivy League burger was a carnivore’s dream with the add on of bacon and a succulent fried chicken, and not forgetting a crispy fried egg and creamy avocado.

The only thing I would change would be the doneness of the patty. I would have loved it if it was pink in the middle, and was told by the lovely waitress that this was customisable. Something to remember for my next visit then.

The sweet potato fries were so much more crispier than the chunky fries, and it was pretty much impossible to stop munching on them. We also ordered the specialty shakes (Pop Quiz and Compund-O), and despite them being syrup-based, the addition of real ingredients such as caramel popcorn and Oreo cookies, and also a very generous serving of ice cream, helped gave them a much tastier flavour and enjoyable consistency.

This place is quite comforting and a good location. This would be a great place for uni students, with the atmosphere and decor.

The menu is quite small and the burgers are extravagant looking but the taste is good, but not great. The sweet potato fries are delicious here!

Lovely staff. Great burger vibe for the nearby uni crowd. Unfortunately, I think the cult burger trend is slightly coming to an end in Melbourne but this place is still doing them pretty well. I had the chicken/beef/bacon, and unlike others my beef was not served rare which is a win in my books. Sweet potato fries are delish. Freakshakes are little cream heavy, and missing the core flavour. Overall, pretty awesome job.

The burgers are superb and so filling! :D The meat is real; the sweet potato fries are tasty. They really have mastered the art of taste. yum

Came in on a voucher. Greeted warmly and service was great. Ordered the fish burger, which was delicious and light, with good strong flavours without being over-powering. Chips were crispy, substantial and thick, and a huge portion. The drink was also a massive portion. Very happy with this place.

Saturday afternoon late lunch. Fratboy burger with extra patty & cheese. Chips were ok. They are thick and would hold loaded fries or Poutine well but not great as a stand alone chip. Friend had the onion rings and described them as 'doughy'. Too much uncooked batter in the middle took away any onion flavour they had. Shakes were good, full of cream though. Was good to try but not good enough to come back.
Travelling For Food
Great value, that double patties were thick as steak!
The burger was well-seasoned and kept juicy texture into it. It was so thick I could only bite half of the section. Chips were Ok, but the spicy mayo I chose to pair with wasn't that good. Overall it's a great experience. This place is definitely above average (Grill'd)

The best burger I have ever ate! The customer service on the highest standard. The place has a great atmosphere.

I'm not a fan of burgers but we went there as my partner love burgers. That was the best burger I have ever had. We also have got an amazing sweet potato chips and onion rings. The atmosphere was so good that we didn't want to leave. This place deserves 10 out of 5 for customer service. I definitely recommend this place to every one!

Good for a late night feed, decent atmosphere. The food came out quick and lots of it. Mac and cheese fries stood out. Good burgers too. . . .

The place was busy on a Friday night but service was still great and quick. Burgers were done well with fresh ingredients. The milkshakes were delicious and generous in serving. Definitely worth checking it out!
After viewing the pics on insta I wanted to get to the pointy end of business and try the Woodstock vego burger with chickpea patty and the pink betroot burger - this was a suprise as the the vego patty was both moist and had flavour as opposed to other vego burgers I have had in the past.

We also tried the hotdog which had a great Dr Frankenfurter with spicy mayo, jalepenos, pickles, caramelised onions and cheese sauce and the Buns n burner burger which had a double patty which was full of flavour.
But my favourite was the Kim chi burger which was full of flavour and was well balanced with the kim chi..this is a special at the minute however I hope it stays on the menu as it was amazing 😋😋.

We could not go pass the Oreo and Snickers shake which were very generous in serving and all I can say is ... yumm.

We finished the night off with a cheeky Baileys cocktail which was AMAZING and packed a punch...just the way I like it!!

Service was fantastic and I liked the USA theme of the university and if you check out the menu items it is reflected need to go back and check out the other burgers too thank you for inviting us, we will definitely come back .

So far I've been to Masters of Burgerology 6 times, and it has been pretty awesome each time. I think the real trick is to go back a few times and try different burgers and the hot dogs and find the ones you love. I'm all into the Dr Frankfurter hotdog in a combo with tzatziki dipping sauce and coke, but have been happy with the burgers I've had (they are sooo filling). The staff have always been friendly and I can't wait to go back.

For a burger place, I was super impressed. I wouldn't have tried it, had it not been for the scoopon deal. I had the charcoal (black bun) with the grilled fish special which comprised of saganaki, kale & pesto. The bun was soft & the filling was a delicious combination feeling a bit more healthy than the fried chicken options. Sweet potato chips were super crispy & was washed down well with a red wine.

Burger was ok but the bun was stale and wasn't very good. Pretty small portions too, had a freshman burger and chips and was still hungry after. Probably go somewhere else next time I'm craving a burger tbh

I was lucky enough to be invited to try out this new kid on the block in the Melbourne burger scene. These guys are passionate about what they do, which is what you want to see and feel when you walk into a place. They have great deals through the week so check out their Insta/Facebook to get all the details. They have a Korean chicken burger which is delicious and the Nutty Professor milkshake was soooo good! They also have a selection of hot dogs: the beef chilli is delicious! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the Carlton area. They have cocktails too! Perfect!

Great food and shakes! I had the freshman burger and onion rings as well as having some chips too. Really awesome vibe and friendly staff. Can't wait to bring a group of friends here next time!

This place is awesome! Awesome staff! I got the Buns N Burner (black bun) and onion rings, so yum. The burger was juicy and had heaps of flavour! I loved it.

Another great addition to Melbourne's burger scene. The food is really good quality and results in a really fresh/clean burger. The chips are thick cut almost like wedges which isn't really my preference but others in my party seemed to enjoy.
The staff are friendly and very accomodating when altering burgers. They even offer a student discount making it very affordable!
I'm Batman
Went here on Canada day, which meant my chips are upgraded to poutine.

There's a few things to note. Burger integrity really went downhill on this one. I know the appeal of a soft bun is recently being showcased with these new burger joints but if in turn sacrifices the integrity of the burger then maybe it's not worth it. Didn't particularly enjoy eating a bunless burger towards the end. Mind you this happened on both burgers.

The poutine was pretty average too. Chips weren't crispy but the gravy was nice. It's worth noting that their poutine contains curds and mozzarella.

I don't mind coming back and re-rating if perhaps another visit may make a positive difference. It's just I'd rather eat Italian if I'm in the area.
DamoForce Food
Newly opened!! Just opposite Melbourne Uni in Carlton comes @mastersofburgerology. Just a short menu at this stage but with their beef being cooked pink and on point you couldn't ask for more! And their skin on chips are the bomb!! Give them a look 💪
Burgers Of Melbourne
Eat, Sleep, Study, Repeat is the motto of this burger joint situated opposite Melbourne University.

With quality products being used, the only real fault I could find with this burger was the amount of caramelised onions (and the tomatoes came out after the picture 😉). The patties were nice and soft, had the perfect cheese melt and the house sauce was spot on.

Also sampled was the Oreo milkshakes and fries which I would say are a must with your burger order.

Great atmosphere and great burgers. You'll like the fries if your into potato wedges. You can tell the owner(s) really cares about his business.
