Review Min Zaman - Melbourne

praveen jugraj
Food - We went there for Hookah but also tried one of their Entree platters which has variety of Chicken and Lamb kebabs (not wrapped in bread). The test was good. Couple Varieties were well cooked but the others were quite hard (over cooked maybe) to eat. Decor - It is very congested and the atmosphere isn't good enough to justify the price. It might have been a bit better if we had sat in the front. Service - Very friendly as you get their and place your order but I had a feeling they wanted us to leave as soon as we finished eating. They were a bit hesitant to change the coal on the Hookah. I would perhaps try Cupido next time.

They don't even deserve 1 star. It should be giving -5 if I'm rating. No customer service, eftpos never works and been asked to pay in cash and i went to nearest 7 11 store to get a cash out. I came back, paid cash and i ask for the left over wine bottle which i bought in the restaurant and surprisingly they threw away my wine in the rubbish bin while i went to get a cash out. They never apologized and the funny thing was they took the wine from the rubbish bin and offered me to take it home. I was very disappointed with thier customer service and would never go back again.

New restaurant opened near where the old one was opened, much better located, better atmosphere, new decore, cheaper shisha i paid just $25 for fresh Apple head. New menu much cheaper than the old place. 292 lygon street was closed and moved to 280 lygon street carlton.

Average food that is overpriced. Nothing had any seasoning or spice on it. Chicken wings were very dry with no flavour. Vine leaves were okay. Lamb skewers were a rip off. Would not revisit.

Excellent food. The price was a little high, but they made up for it with large servings. Great shisha, even better with half prices between 5-6pm.

Terrible service!!! We have a booking upstairs in the function room with 20 people. The food all came out at different times mains coming out before entrees, and 2 hours later not everyone got what they had ordered. When we questioned the waitress she told us that they were too busy downstairs to get our food here in time, was very rude and did not offer a solution for the error. Do not dine here!

Total rip off. Overpriced, terrible service, below mediocre food... I think they are only in the shisha business cause otherwise this is a total waste of restaurant in Lygon
Kumari Somaratne
Lebanese Mix Grill was dry with no sauce or dip provided. The kabos was luke warm.. dips were average.

We liked this place! It actually just begins to get busy after 9pm when people start coming in for shisha. We came early and had the banquet. The food was pretty on par and my favourite was the entree platter (loved the falafels and sambousiks, but chicken drumsticks were a bit dry). The main meat platter consisted of six skewers to share between the two of us (three per person). My favourite was the shish kofta (minced lamb) because the shish kebab and shish kawook were dry as well. The meats were well-seasoned and full of flavour, and plenty of salad and rice were included. Service was attentive and prompt, and we appreciated their new renovation too! Very aesthetically pleasing and a lot of thought has been put into the decor. However, the lighting could be a bit dimmer as it is a bit too bright. Try making the yellow light of the chandeliers a bit brighter and turn off the white lights. That can in turn also create an intimate feel and make it a good spot for dates.

A place where you can go for sheesha. They have varied flavours and they prepare it well.<br/>The middle eastern restaurant food they serve is just ok. The staff members are cordial and friendly.
Isabella
Terrible restaurant, do not recommend for anyone. We waited over 40 minutes for food that was cold and stale. Hommus came out and didn't seem fresh, meat was tough and chicken was dry. <br/>Not only that, we asked for food that could feed 3 people and received a small plate of meat which could be enough for one and it was overpriced. <br/>Do not waste your time or money.
Ali Al Joboory
Noisy place, not sure who told them the Lebanese or Egyptian customers love the noise or ' night club ' kind environment !!. <br/>The food is average, nothing special; and the service is very variable depending on the pressure on the restaurant ( surprisingly it's busy around the meals time !!)<br/>You would know you're approaching the place but hearing the loud noisy music from few km !
Food Expert Puru
We ordered a standard banquet.Food was tasty. Portions served were more than sufficient. Service was very poor. It took ages for starters to come in and again a long wait for mains.

The bottom line is come here for a drink and some shisha. The food is average. Tough lamb that wasn't very nice and very chewy. We sat outside but is it legal to allow to smoke shisha inside??????
Michael Adziovski
If you like Shisha I do recommend this place as they have a lot of flavours and it is not over priced :)<br/><br/>The food is 50/50 here with my experiences... Sometimes it is awesome and other times it is just burnt food that tastes like rubber :(<br/><br/>I still would go to this place if you're on Lygon Street and feel like some Shisha with your food...<br/><br/>The food prices are reasonable and you do get good servings<br/>They have a special of lamb sticks and rice/etc which is good...<br/><br/>They seriously need to upgrade their toilets though...<br/>They are shocking !!<br/>Get proper/better toilets for your customers

Was expecting delicious Lebanese food, sadly my expectations were too high. This is more of a shisha bar I suppose and I didn't know that they allowed customers to smoke shisha indoors and had I known that, I wouldn't have taken my child there. We all ordered our mains together but they stuffed up our order and they dropped one of our orders m in the lift, yes a lift! Where is there kitchen located? Our orders came out late and when asked how long it will be, I just got a blunt answer "we only have two people in the kitchen"! That's not my problem if you only have two cooks on a busy Saturday night! Get your priorities right! The lamb was tough and half of the plate was just salad with no dressing. Not at all happy with the outcome and the prices are ridiculous! Never going back there again as this place is a major rip off!

Horrible food. Had the wrong order placed at our table. The owner kept defending himself. Finally got the right order. An entree which was basically bits of lamb in undercooked rice. And I mean completely undercooked rice. Once again the owner said that's how it's supposed to be. The cheese and meat pastries were passable but very oily. We just ended eating some pita bread with salty hommous. Paid the overpriced bill and went down the street to a Thai restaurant and had proper, edible food.
Maddy
very poor sercive and the food quality was pathetic. It was cold and chewy. The staff looked very busy and i could see they were trying to work very hard but their communication skills were poor. Few of them could hardly understand english. Twice we asked for something and we got completely different. The only good part was the belly dance. If you are planning just for shisha, there is another place nearby and they play rnb music with a nice crowd and their service is excellent.

Cold food and second time again reheated food.waste off money , shit food.lamb to hard u cant even cut with knife. Never xome again<br/>At this place.....
S Anderson
I think this is more a shisha bar that does food, rather than a restaurant. <br/>The rice we had was obviously either old or reheated, it stuck together and was cold and hard. The lamb skewers were below average, and our plate was about 2/3 salad. Very overpriced for what you get. The falafel was average, tahini sauce was okay.<br/>The place itself is a little dirty and messy around the edges. The staff member who served us was very friendly and attentive, but unfortunately the bad food and price made us not want to return.

Awful - Horrible Service, Horrible Food & Overpriced. I went Min Zaman this evening and it was without a doubt the worst dining experience I've ever had!<br/><br/>The waitress was rude and uninterested. She wasn't the slightest bit interested in taking our order, we waited over 10 minutes for her to come and when we finally got her attention she was annoyed that we wanted something. I asked on several occasions for water, it was never provided.<br/><br/>The Food:<br/>- The Hummus: The most vile thing I've ever tasted, worse than what you can buy at your grocery store. A small plate coat $13.00, an absolute rip off.<br/>- The Vine Leaves: Not fresh and extremely dry (like they had been in the microwave). <br/>- The "Pickle Plat":: The menu stated "a plate full of green olives, black olives and pickled carrots, cauliflower and cucumber". A tiny plate arrived with no olives, I questioned the waiter who said he would check for us. 20 minutes later he came back with stale stuffed olives. Absolutely disgusting, if you don't have something just admit it, DON'T provide stale products.<br/>- The Grilled Meat Platter: Every piece was over cooked and dry with little to no flavour.<br/>- Falafel: Nothing special.<br/><br/>The only thing on the menu they nailed was the hot chips, ironically it was the only non middle eastern item we ordered.<br/><br/>The owners care more about the shisha and entertainment, however no amount of shisha or entertainment could make up for the food and service provided. I will never return, save your money and avoid min zaman.

Worst Lebanese food in Melbourne. Tonight we have had a really bad experience at this restaurant. The staff was nice but the food was not. The only nice food on the menu was falafel and dips. We have ordered a seafood banquet but the seafood itself was so over cooked it tasted like cardboard. At the end we were still charged full price and luckely the owner interviened.

RUDE service!. Been there once and won't be return again! <br/><br/>Rude service ever!
Ilovefood
Sad !!. Owners must have changed. service is very poor. not much vegetarian options. chefs wont make anything additional for u. the only thing that they have going is their sheesha and belly dancers on the weekends.
Luke In Bundoora
OK, no more. Started with dips, good baba ghanouj, ok hummus and a chilli dip that was pretty poor - overprocessed and a particularly drying chilli taste suggesting powder rather than the fresh thing. Main course snapper was quite good, but kibbeh were very disappointing - too small, too dry, served just with dry rice scattered with burnt pine nuts and a lazy bulk mixed leaf salad. Service and wine were fine but it would be very easy to improve this food - many better Lebanese offerings around town.
Shavenatom
AWFUL. Our 'Share Platter' came to the table devoid of 30% of the fare listed on the menu - including the major components or 'centrepieces' of the Platter!!! We called on the waitstaff to deliver the missing components, which they did - in part. We called on them again to deliver some more of the missing components, which they did once again - IN PART. We never received the 'centrepieces' of the platter as listed on the menu. Furthermore, the food was of a quality that suggested a loooooong Bain-marie residence, and any thought of presentation had obviously been thoroughly neglected. Thankfully, the waitstaff were friendly and somewhat helpful. As avid Melbourne diners-out, our advice is to just stay away from this place.

Good customer service The s.... Good customer service<br/>The staff is very friendly<br/>I especially liked the hookah.

Do not reccomend unfortunately! Its lebanese cusine and the two cooks on the night me and my partner went were indian, doesnt do the authentic lebanese food idea any justice! <br/>We ordered the vine leaves and a mixed grill to share, EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED, i love vine leaves and was so much looking forward to eating the yummiest thing on earth but when they arrived they were 6 small uneven vineleaves that tasted as if they had been reheated in the microwave, they were dry, not moist at all, leaves were quote dry and the rice was.soooooo dry and the meat mixed in with it was sooo yuk it tasted and smelled like CAT FOOD:( so dissapointed! Mixedgrill was just ok, but was hesitant after the disaster of entree that i didnt finish. Grill kebabs were nice but the sujuk sausage was definately not the best lebanese s as usage iv had. Grill was served with a handful of salad and hanful of WEDGES! Couldnt believe they served wedges with the meat at a lebanese restaurant! They dont even give you dips or bread with the meat! You can order it separately but its overpriced for dips at $9 for one dip! The mixed grill was $33 i might add and again dissapointing.... To end the night as we checked our receipt walking back to the car we saw they charged $6for my glass of pineapple juice which we heard and saw them shake the golden circle pineapple juice bottle... The atmosphere needs attention, paper table cloths no candles or decorations to make it feel nice, the walls are painted yellow and they are dirty! The place doesnt really feel xlean, and we were.a bit uncertain about the food as you can not see the kitchen! T seemed the kitchen must be upstairs and they send it downstairs using a dumb-waiter in the wall...<br/>To add to the.bad experience, during our dining time a waiter or possibly the cook was arguing or loudly discussing with the Egyptian owner an issue about something in the middle of the restaurant. OVERALL NOT RECCOMENDED FOR FOOD, for a seedy sleezy shisha hangout al fresco its great but overall not good. Previously i had been here over a year ago and the vine leaves were nice and the kibbeh was yum and the place was full and buzzing, but Min Zaman has gone down hill big time sadly... The owner is friendly though which helps you not get up and walk out once you are seated insiside and see the.dirty walls as nd messy bar and counter... <br/>Would have loved to give a positive review but unfortunately the good experience just wasnt there...

Shocking service! Food was ok but overpriced. Shisha was horrible I won't recommend it to anyone

Very multicultural. I like the fact that i see a lot of mixed people that go there not just middle eastern but all races.<br/>i ordered a lebanese mixed grill and it took at least 30mins to come out (what restaurant doesnt take that long to serve you the food), which was quite quick considering it was a saturday night. i liked the food very much, the smell the taste the juiceness of the meat really nice. washed it down with one of thier cocktails(maybe 3) that was good. live belly dancers for entertainment who like the customers to dance with them, thats nice i like that.<br/>shisha comes in so many different flavours, i had bubble gum and mint(that was great) lasted over an hour.<br/>service was great, a waiter/waitress everywhere i turned very freindly.<br/>prices were average to lygon st. price of shisha was $30 for a fresh apple head which is good considering others make you pay the same for a ceramic head(apple head lasts longer anyway, it doesnt dry the flavour quick). <br/>would def. recommend to anyone that wants to try something different.

Walked around lygon st and decided to try this place for dinner with some friends. We ordered one of there mix platters and dips and I was very happy with the food and will defenetly try some more on a other time. After dinner we ordered a Shisha and had a awesome time. We even got surprised through a live Belly Dancer show we found out is regurarely. Compare to the other reputations I was really happy with the Service and felt welcomed.

Worst service ever!. I should have read the reviews as they were exactly like others.<br/>Worst service ever. Waiters stand around talking while you wait. Supposed to get variety of dips - got 4 bowls of hommus and couple piddly salads. <br/>Had to wait an hour after mains for dessert which they didn't believe we were entitled to even though we bought the banquet. Then the desserts finally arrived and we had to remind them it included coffee - they took the menu and double checked. Never, ever again!
Mark.michelle.abraham
Never again, worst meal. Overnighted in Carlton, decided to try Lebanese for a change. Worst mistake we made. Service was shocking, five girls two blokes and all they did was talk to each other or obvious favourite customers. Ordered platters to get a broad spectrum of variety. Dips were good but went downhill from there fast. Pita Bread stale, meat dry and we had to ask for our dessert after being ignored by all and sundry. One beer which was luke warm. Seem more interested in belly dancer and Shiskas than serving paying eating drinking customers. Worst meal we have eaten out anyway in Australia for a long long time, will never be back and will make sure all our friends are told. Even saw people walk in, sit down then get up and walk out when noone came near them. Must be very profitable NOT.

Most arrogant smart ass waiter. Went here for my sisters birthday for a shisha. Ordered from the lady behind the til and all was fine until a waiter approached and said we had to order another thing or else he wouldn't serve just the shisha. Ordered a drink and then he said everyone had to order a drink or else he wouldnt serve the shisha. By the way the restaurant was empty! He kept putting on a smart ass laugh and when one of our group said she didn't want a drink he made us leave. Disgusting.

AVOID!. We went to Minzaman last night for a friend's birthday and it was probably one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. My husband and I decided to get the banquet so that we could try a variety of the dishes. <br/><br/>Our waitress took one person's order and then walked off. We actually had to get up and ask her to come back to take the rest of the orders! She got the drinks order entirely wrong and after returning the drinks, another waitress had to come back and re-take the order. <br/><br/>Bread and dips came out first which were tasty enough but nothing amazing. Over an hour passed and everyone else on the table were gradually brought their starters and then their mains and we still had not yet received our entree. I asked the waitress where our food was and she didn't know what to do and said she would have to ask someone else. The rest of our party had finished their mains by the time we were told that our entrees would be out in 5 minutes. I ended up telling them that we had waited far too long, that everyone else had finished their meals, and we left hungry.<br/><br/>Very disappointing after having been looking forward to it. I do not recommend this restaurant at all.
Filkro
Unattentive staff, forget our main meal, entree was good. overall this place is not worth a 2nd go.
Lellett
Tasty!. We went there in a super big group and they handled it really well. At first we thought it was really over priced but then we saw the dishe sizes - HUGE! The portions of food were way too big though and we couldn't finish it all even though it tasted amazing. I think they would benefit from dropping their portion size and therefore their prices so we can enjoy tasting everything without wasting food
Agostino Soldati
Mixed grill, dips, vego platter all very tasty and the eggplant was lovely. The food came out quick and I'd recommend it.
Julie
Over here!!!!. I think I spent most of the night trying to get the attention of the unlimited number of serving staff hanging around either the bar the dancers or their mates. Entrees came to the table same time as the mains but due to the small size of the tables it was impossible to taste all the dishes. It's place clearly sees itself as a smoking pipe hangout rather than a place for a good meal. Thank god for the two young women waiting on tables or I would still be there trying to get served. Will never be back
Sam Rauda
Dissapointed. I have been to a few Lebanese Restaurants in Melbourne & Suburbs thinking its in Lygon St that it would be OK ....but not so was very dissapointed with quality of the food..... overcooked , dry and some cases a bit burnt.<br/>I wont go back.
Pisces
Bland, dry & overpriced food. Terrible dining experience. Paid about $28 for tasteless, overcooked lamb skewers and a bit of salad. Service was ordinary also. With so many great middle eastern restaurants in Melbourne to choose from, give this one a miss!
Harlz
BAD SERVICE. Unfortunately the slow service and rudeness of staff really lets this restaurant down. I've been there twice and the food has been quite good however the service has been horrible both times. When we asked questions concerning dishes on the menu, we were laughed at and felt belittled They weren't busy either of the nights I was there and the staff were too busy chatting amongst themselves or in one instance were placing all their attention on the table full of leggy blondes..Maybe I should die my hair so that I can get some service!
Cam50
Service bad food tasteless and dry. Cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. Would never go back. I would have thought with so many restaurants in this area the quality would be better. You would only go there once
Mahmoud
Just landed from Alice Spring, Great service and Falafel was delicious. I like the shisha mint flavor. Lebanese but much Egyptian touch, yummy.
Bruce Collins
Had a quick mixed grill found to be a bit dry and no tast difference between the different types of meat a little disappoint as there are heaps of other places to eat in the area maybe bad choice of food
Mina
Good service. I've been last Friday night... So happy with z service... Mixed Lebanese Grill so nice... Shisha was amazing, I could pick double apple flavor from their 18 list of flavors! Their three belly dancing show was great... Thumb Up!

I was here the other night. Service is pathetic. Food is soooo far off good. Very expensive for crap night out. Served by someone who hardly spoke English... We left and crossed the road to some good old trusty pasta...
