Review Reynoldo's - Melbourne

Our second visit to the restaurant, it’s a while ago since my last visit blurry memory of how’s food and service. It’s a quiet Sunday, we were their first customers in the evening, very friendly service, spacious restaurant make you feel very comfortable. Filipino food taste interesting we ordered a squid dish, chicken dish and a stir fry noodles. Had a good meal will definitely return!

Looooooved the Filipino food here! The pork crackling was sooooo amazing! So crunchy! And the pork meat was tender. The pork sisig was super tasty too. Combined with garlic rice - perfect.

Sunday midday and eating filipino dishes. I must say this has been the most relaxing day. Made me missed the Philippines so bad. 😁. Amazing and scrumptious food, good music, relaxing place, and very welcoming staff. Well done Chef Rey and wifey. 👌. This place is a must try!

We just came back from vacation from the Philippines and were craving for that food and decided to try this restaurant. Sinigang and sisig are as tasty as on islands. Thanks to chef for this little piece of warm islands in this cold Melbourne's winter.

Great Filipino food, great tasting and big portions for price, staff was very friendly and dining experience was 10/10.

Well presented and clean restaurant. Quite spacious and comfortable. Friendly staff and accommodating. However, the food portions have room for improvement especially the cost and meat choices. We ordered five take away dishes that costed around $75 and they were pretty small. The Chicken Inasal was not good as the it chicken breast part was used which was unusual rather than a traditional maryland cut and therefore, the meat was very dry. The Sisig has no crunchy component and very mushy. The Kilawin came in a very small container (although indeed it was a starter, but still expensive and we expected at least enough for two people) and the type of fish used was not the usual and has a thinly meaty slice texture (sort of almost beef but fish) and very bland. The garlic rice was okay and the pork skewers were average, cheap meat cut and chewy. Overall, the service and venue was good but food quality and meat cut choices unfortunately, was poor.

I love Reynaldos! They have a great mix between Filo and Western food and I haven't had a dish that I didn't like. Plus, everyone is so friendly!

Yum yum. First time trying out filipino cuisine... 👍

I was here just once and the service was unbelievably slow. Place is huge but very quiet. Food seemed frozen and just reheated. Defo not fresh. I would suggest cutting down their menu. Keep it simple. There’s no need to show off. This way, ingredients will constantly be fresh and sustainable. Reading from the reviews here and on Facebook, this restaurant seems to have a lot of bogus reviews from people who only have one review in their account to bump up the star rating of Reynaldo’s. Only legit reviews are from accounts with at least more than 20 reviews. So dodgy. Keep it real. This place only making Zomato a not credible critic platform.

Great food, atmosphere and service.

Had the beef caldereta and okoy. Authentic Filipino food with quality ingredients. Chef Rey hails from The Peninsula Manila and had worked on many 5 star hotels since. Best in the area.

My friends and I ate dinner here on Tuesday night and we loved it! We shared spring rolls then two of us had the lechon (which was so amazingly crispy), one had the duck and one had the vegetarian pancit. The service was excellent and our waitress was so lovely. I would have given it a 5 but I didn't get to try dessert! Next time, because I'll definitely be back. Thank you!

It is a big but quiet restaurant in North Melbourne. I had a few recommended dishes but they were just below average. On the bright side, the waitress were really friendly and helpful. Also, the halo halo was not bad

Experience is good, this is a very homey place for me. The Calderata goat was good and has a flavour different from the ordinary. But it’s was a slightly salty for my taste, in saying that it’s how Filipinos love it. It’s a huge place and has a potential. I would recommend a review of a more modern menus and more Filipino with no western food.

I wanted this place to be good but unfortunately, the food was not up to scratch. First, I do like the setting. It's spacious and nice inside and it's in this very cute heritage complex that has beautiful lights in the evening. The service is super friendly. They had a special on a Saturday evening whereby you could get a main (there are a number of choices) with rice and iced tea (which tasted like it was homemade and was delish) for only $10. We ordered the chicken curry from that special menu and though the sauce was nice, there wasn't a lot of chicken in the end because half of it was bone. The pork sisig was the other dish we ordered but the pork was mainly fat. If it wasn't fat, it was too burnt. The last dish we ordered was the duck but it was finished so the lady suggested kaldereta beef which was a stew. She said she would give us free rice which was confusing because the first lady who served us told us the dishes we ordered came with rice and then even more confusing we ended up being charged for the rice. To be fair, the beef stew was the best dish out of the lot but there was also a lot of fat in that dish. Unfortunately, it'll be hard to justify coming back here. I have been to the Philippines and I've enjoyed the food there a lot so it was a disappointing experience tonight.

Great experience. Reynaldo the chef was very polite and engaging. The service was very Royal and the food “Mamma Mia”. Of the very few Filipino joints in the city Reynaldo’s is the one to definitely try. With heaps of authentic Filipino options to choose from.

What a delightful place! The owners were so friendly and accommodating. The food was really nice. I have travelled to the philippines many times and the food was authentic and well priced. We will definitely be coming back with our friends. Thank you for a great experience!!!!

Excruciatingly slow service, obscenely expensive food, horrendous quality. We were there on a Friday night, only 1 other table was occupied. We were so hungry, but alas, it took almost an hour for the appetizers to be served. The spring rolls were burnt, and the filling tasted quite sour and smelled funny. My partner ordered Pork Sisig, but it was anything but sizzling. The hot plate was not hot at all that the egg did not get even get half cooked (imagine raw egg on semi-warm meat). I ordered spaghetti bolognese for myself, and wow, the noodles smelled and tasted stale, so I barely touched it. Do yourselves a favor and do not even think of trying this restaurant.

This is truly authentic Filipino food at its best! Chef Reynaldo and his amazing wife Doris make you feel like you have entered into a Filipino home with their friendly warm welcoming way!! Head Chef Reynaldo should be selling these dishes at 5-star prices because he dishes out flavors that will tingle your pallet!! And of course for me I wash them down with the San Miguel Fresca which takes you to the Philippines!!

We will be regulars from now on. What a great discovery!

Reynaldo’s is excellent! Lovely, friendly, and happy staff. Their traditional Filipino food is delicious. Great place for group bookings. Will definitely be back again.

I've really enjoyed my visits at Reynaldos! They're aren't many filo places around and this one really makes me feel like I'm back in the Philippines. They also have a great mix of filo and western food, I haven't had a dish that wasn't delicious. To top it off everyone is so friendly 😊

Best parma i have ever had seriously. Would definitely recommend anyone who would wanna taste real parma go there, they are amazing. Coming back soon for some parma.
The Hamburgler
I have been here a few times for some Filipino food. My favourites have been the pork sisig, the kaldereta, and the leche flan. They're authentic dishes packed with flavour. The service staff are always very friendly and attentive.

I am writing to review my experience with Reynaldo’s. I dined with my partner for dinner & he has given me feedback which matches mine.

I live in North Melbourne & I often shop on Errol St. During the day Reynaldo’s is not very busy in comparison to other cafes in the area. I felt bad for them as everyone else was getting good business, so we decided to dine there one night to give it a go and show some support.

We ordered mainly Filipino dishes as we can eat western style food in many other places. We have been to the Philippines before so we had an idea of what to expect, in terms of flavour and taste.

As I am a local, I really wanted to like Reynaldo’s. But I’m sorry but the food was not good at all. The flavours were bland and we were wondering “where’s the patis?” (Fish sauce) in the food, as this is such an important ingredient in Filipino food.
The ingredients also were not fresh and tasted like the dishes were cooked in advance and reheated in the microwave. The spring rolls were nice as they were cooked fresh.

The service was good but the food took a very long time to arrive at our table (45 minutes).

I also agree with other reviews that the menu is confusing and I don’t know why they would offer western food at a Filipino restaurant. They should focus on making good Filipino food and improving the ambiance. Do something well and people will come.

Sorry to write a negative review but as a local I need to be honest so you can only make improvements. I hope you flourish and do well in the future. Salamat (thank you).
Holly
Such beautiful service and DELICIOUS food. So well priced and comfortable. We walked all around NM looking for the right vibe, this was it. Our new favourite.
Stephanie O'Connor
I went there tonight with a craving for pasta and I was absolutely amazed by the quality of their spaghetti - and it was only $10. I tell you now I ate a pasta from other places that cost up to 5 times as much and it wasn't even half as good as Reynaldos. The service was amazing, the people were so lovely and warm. It was a very nice experience for a very tired and hungry pregnant lady!!
Lachlanjbullen
We had dinner and desert here with some friends last night and we absolutely loved this place!!!! The food was so delicious and the staff were friendly and efficient. For some great Filipino food don’t hesitate.

The best streak sandwich I've ever had in my short life dare you to try it😊😊 great friendly service and value for $$$ I'm be back in January 2018

Recently had Reynaldo's through ubereats. I was super excited because it's so hard to find Filipino restaurants in Melbourne but I was pretty disappointed with the food.

I had the Bulalo and the Adobo Grilled Chicken- first of all, the soup of the bulalo tasted a bit sour as if it had been cooked a couple of days ago and has been left out. The adobo grilled chicken was pretty dry and they were pretty much just 2 things fillets of chicken meat.

I might given them another shot but this experience wasn't the best and I was excited to get authentic Filipino food too...
John Michael Abalos
The best offerings were the sisig (diced pork meat in a sizzling plate), kilawin (ceviche), and the halo-halo (taro, sweet coconut, fruits and beans in shaved ice). The palabok (rice noodles in a seafood-based sauce) sauce needs some tweaking, in my opinion, to resemble the traditional Filipino version of the dish. Otherwise, would definitely go back and recommend the store to friends and family. Its location being near the CBD is definitely a plus.

Food was really delicious! Missed good Filipino food while I was here in Melbourne. Bulalo was perfect for the cold weather. And the Tilapia was a good serving as well!

Ok I'm going to be very honest here.

Reynaldo's has great potential but the restaurant is very confused about what type of eatery it is.

If it is a Filipino restaurant then create & sell the best Filipino food in Melbourne! Do not waste your time making western food like steak & chips. Focus on Filipino food & get that right, if Reynaldo's can do this, I'm sure customers will fill up the restaurant.

It is very sad to see a great space & idea go to waste. Focus & capitalise on Filipino food please! If we wanted Italian Pasta, we will go to an Italian restaurant. Get rid of the burgers, bruschetta , schnitzel & non Filipino food off your menu! There is already a lot of this type of food on Errol St. Focus on Filipino food & do it amazing that people forget about burgers & bruschetta.

When people come to your restaurant they want to feel as if they have been transported to the Philippines. So they will expect warm lighting, vibrant native decor & music to create a friendly & festive vibe. The restaurant should reflect the Filipino culture & characteristics-fun, warm, cheeky, friendly, colourful & laid back. I cannot stress how important ambiance & environment are! Make sure the lighting is warm, paint the walls in an inviting colour & put up some Filipino ornaments, without being too corny. You want to tell a story to your customers, such as, 'welcome to the Philippines, this is our people, this is our culture & our amazing food we want to share with you, please enjoy your time with us & return again'.

Also, you should be very picky about who you employ as your wait staff. They are the face of the restaurant & will determine if customers return again or not. They should also be a representative of Filipino culture & people. Warm, friendly & joyous. Service should also be ran at a good pace and not too slow. No one should wait more than 15-20 minutes for their food & drinks to arrive. Also, food should be made fresh & not reheated in the microwave. Wait staff should be trained well in hospitality or it will be a quick downfall of your restaurant.

Reynaldo's, you are in a good location & have a great space to work with. Take the time to really think about your establishment & do it right. No more western food on menu, improve ambiance & interior of environment, get outstanding wait staff & make sure your food is authentic, flavourful & delicious. Attention to detail is the key-get some help from other champions in the hospitality business.

Focus on making the best Filipino food in Melbourne. When people walk in, make them feel like they are in the Philippines & not just at some average restaurant on Errol St. You want to make it inviting towards Filipino's as well as everyone else. Filipino food has not made a spark in Melbourne yet, so this is your chance.

You can do this Reynaldo's! I am cheering for you because I can see the potential that awaits you.

Good luck!

Found this place through google and wasn't disappointed at all. Very nice ambiance and Filipino dishes to die for! Will be back in the future thats for sure!👌

Great food! The bulalo and caldereta tasted great. The owner's were very friendly and accomodating. The place is large, beautiful, and cozy.
Gab De Leon
Highlight - dishes were authentic Filipino.

Special mention to the he Sisig and Kaldereta, best dishes of the night. The service is friendly enough but super slow. We dined in on a Tuesday night and took over 45 minutes for mains to be served. Ambience was also lacking, wasn't the usual warmth you'd expect for a Filipino place.

Four Peas In A Pod
Amazing food and ambiance. Will definitely come back. Sisig and palabok great flavours. Hot calamansi tea very refreshing and great for a cold winter day.
Grace Mo
Very good food, lovely waiters and overall was one of the best places in Melbourne! What a hidden gem. Definitely recommend. They cater for people with allergies which is even better!! Thanks Reynaldo

Horribly slow service. Our group waited for almost an hour for overpriced mediocre food (no apologies, no nothing!) The crispy pork belly was dry as the Sahara Desert (left in the fryer a tad too long), the beef ribs had too much fat, chips were soggy and had fish-like smell??!! And did I mention slow service?!! Our drinks were served a half an hour after we ordered. Thought we saw only one wait staff doing the floor on a busy evening?! Shame.
Kate Hatty
What a great find! The staff were so friendly and the food was amazing! Definitely go back there!
Please try this place...it's a little gem! :)

We ordered kilawin, calderita, bulalo. These filipino dishes were delicious!

Yummy! We will definitely come back.

Thank you Reynaldo's Grill and Restaurant

🥐🥓🍗🍖🥘🍡🍨

Thought we would try Filipino cuisine for something different but was disappointed.
Service was slow however the waiting staff were very friendly. The food lacked flavour also way over priced.
Unfortunately I could not recommend this place.

Wonderful airy ambience with traditional Filipino décor and friendly and courteous staff. Our entrees, consisting of double servings of Pinoy Pork Skewers and Ukoy, were delicious and simply served on crisp white plates, the flavour reminding me of what I miss so much about the Philippines. They were also quite reasonably priced. We then feasted on generously proportioned mains accompanied by rice: the Crispy Pata, cooked succulently with little residual oil (I've certainly tasted very oily versions in other Filo restaurants) and their American Beef Ribs, a flavoursome Anglo based dish which my Aussie partner certainly appreciated! Their desserts were commendable, with the Turon, Halo Halo and Mango Gelato ice creams rounding off our wonderful Sunday lunch. All in all an enjoyable culinary experience for my family. Highly recommended!

Newish addition to Errol St. Service was great. Food was lacking in every way. Was like something you would whip up at home but worse. Pork was dry and tough and didn't appear to be cooked to order. Cut of chicken was fatty and the whole plate drowned in a sea of gravy. The calamari entrée was pretty tasty tho.

This place doesn't know what it wants to be.. is it a cafe / Filipino eatery / pub food / pasta house / desert place?? With so many other great options in the area its hard to see myself returning.
Our Foodie Finds
Feeling like filo food for the evening in and around North Melbourne so Reynaldo's we went. Served. A beautiful and big smile from Tita (Auntie) who welcomed us and sat us down.

An order of Crispy Tilapia $17.70 and Original Kare Kare $21.0 please! The order taken by our young half filipino waiter who reminded us of an old friend from over a decade ago. The contrast of the old school feel mixed with the old school decor made for a beautiful afternoon and it helped the food was on point. I do think however the bagaong (fermented shrimp paste) definitely needs to change as it was the purple type bagaong and not the dark brown one. Would have amplified the deliciousness. A buko (coconut) juice $3.5 to wash down the meal hit the right spot.

A critique - Reynaldo's needs to freshen up the store and ensure everything is crisp and clean aka get a duster and dust the store, make sure there's no left over sticky tape hanging from the seats, focus on specialised flavours and dishes rather than mixing up Italian, Thai, Chinese and Filipino. Traditional fusion dishes would go a long way rather than having such a confused menu. A great example of what we've seen on our travels and experiences is Gerry's Grill in Boracay where they transform the classic Halo Halo dessert and created both a visual and flavour delight which had us coming back 3 times in the same day i.e. they simply deconstructed it and placed components of it inside a spring roll wrapper. In saying this, we'll be sure to hit up Reynaldo's again for our Filipino food hit but till next time, this is Our Foodie Find!

Had a great night for my stepdaughter Patricias birthday, have been twice and found the food delicious. The staff are very friendly and the waitress is quite cute :). Food was served within approximately 30 minutes and there was a few people there tonight. I would go again with no hesitation.

This is legitimately like one of those restaurants on Gordon Ramsey's nightmares. Serving Filipino cuisine is a great opportunity to have a point of difference as there are very few places for this in Melbourne. However, instead of capitalising on this, reynaldos offers a dated and confused menu of bland reheated foods. Why would you put steaks, pasta, and bruschetta on a Filipino menu??? It's insane. The menu is massive and it's not a very busy place, so obviously nothing here is fresh. All frozen and reheated. This place definitely needs to start over. Restyle, clear out the menu, and concentrate on fresh FILIPINO dishes. Who would go to a Filipino restaurant to eat pasta?? Such a shame
Georgie Porgie
Once we walked in, we received a warm greeting and were quickly seated. The wait staff however weren't as warm and what was more awkward was that we were forced to quickly order our mains and was advised they wanted to close before 11pm when it was barely 8pm. We tried each entree on the menu which was underwhelming, spring rolls were forgivable. My main was Kare Kare which was tasty but mildly cold, and our mains took over an hour to arrive. When the desserts arrived, wait staff failed to clear the table and also replenish water for the table, the Ube cake was good. Overall Philippine cuisine should be vibrant, packed with flavor, and Reynaldo's fails in all aspects.
Marc
Tried this restaurant with a party of 6, we ordered a variety of dishes which arrived cold, tasteless and overlooked. I seriously wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Olahn Zaft
Went here with two other people on a saturday afternoon, it wasn't busy only two tables occupied.
Anyways...
Pros.
- Friendly staff
- Clean and well presented

Cons.
- Slow service from the kitchen, took 40 minutes for the first order of food to come out. The next order came out 15 minutes later and finally the 3rd order came out 5 minutes after. It felt like we ordered from different tables and at different times.
- Roast pork was rubbery and dry, didn't smell good either. I'm comparing it to others and this has plenty of improvements before it catches up.
- For the service and food quality, it's expensive. There are cheaper places with similar food quality and better service at much cheaper prices.

Would I go back there again?
Well I'm reading other people's reviews with similar experience from what we had so it doesn't look like they've learnt their lesson, we regreted eating there and would be hesitant to come back, I wouldn't recommend it either because I don't want to risk disappointing others. I'm surprised by facebook reviews, especially since they just mainly commented on taste vaguely.. What about service?
Jase XL
Good service, authentic flavours and clean environment. The food were nicely presented and it came out promptly.

Dishes ranges from $10-$25

How I wish people with an opportunity to showcase a traditional cuisine will do just that. Filipino food is diverse, vibrant, flavourful, even playful. I do not get it here. Food was okay. Lechon kawali (pork belly) did not taste freshly cooked. Was it just heated? It was dry & stringy. A shame since it looked good. The Charsiu house directly across the road makes the best. Calamares and Ukoy (shrimp veggie fritters) was crispy enough but lack seasoning. Chicken inasal, so so. The service was very, very, very slow but staff are sweet. I heard they have a Sunday buffet. I might go back. I want to give them another chance. I really, really hope they get better.

A whole bunch of us landed upon Reynaldo's the other night. It was pretty late and not much else was open. We all stood about in the rain trying to decide what to do. I peered in through the windows and assumed it was shut for the night as there was not a soul inside, glad wrap had already been placed over the desserts and mops and buckets were in view. However, the staff beckoned us inside and joined up a few tables to accommodate the group. The staff were very friendly from the get go ( maybe we were the only customers for the night) and did a great job of looking after us for the rest of the evening. The menu was pretty uninteresting and as daggy as all get out, like it was 1996, and they were living in some sort of foodie time warp. I decided on the fried crumbed calamari, knowing it would come straight out of a packet in the freezer, that it would be tender and served with mayo and as long as it was nice and hot, it would do the trick. I was right. My husband had noodles especially made for him as he is a vegetarian and there was really nothing at all on the menu for him to choose. Reynaldo's is not somewhere I am ever, ever likely to return BUT, no one complained about their food, it was all decent, and the staff were really, really sweet.
Tony Belicano
We were at Reynaldo's on Friday night with a group celebrating a special occasion. Our experience was very positive. The food was great - authentic Filipino dishes, the portions were very generous and very well priced. The waiting staff that look after us were very pleasant and attentive, considering the rowdiness that goes along with servicing a big group who wants to just chat and chat with one another. The food came out at just about the right time, no long wait at all. Overall, it was an enjoyable celebration coupled with sumptuous food and pleasant service.
Bluecat
I am not familiar with Pinoy dishes at all. The menu was a fusion of pasta, grills, steak etc The wait staff was not consistent. They come around to push orders but takes forever to serve our drink orders and replacing glass water bottles. There were only two tables the whole night we were there, one has a couple and we had 18 ppl in our group. As for the flavours, there are very ordinary. It's a competitive industry, you either be be a WOW with the flavours or be super cheap. I'm sorry I have a lot of eateries to choose from and you are definitely not on it. Also you do not give your customer a butter knife when he is having steak!!!!!
Mampusti Clan
The seafood gumbo was amazing - I can think of no soup I'd prefer from any Melbourne restaurant. All dishes were reasonably priced considering the portion size...let alone the quality. I'll be back!
Food Junction
Service is very poor. Waited 1 hour still no food. It took so long for the drinks to come. Even water took 30 mins. End up walk away after 2 hour and 20 mins of waiting.
Mitzi Richards
We had booked for dinner. we were seated for sometime before we were attended too. the food is served at so long interval. it was not what I expected to be. the service is poor. food is not that appealing.
Lyn Enry
Food was a bit pricy with a limited selection from their menu. Though, unlike most filipino restaurants, it was good see food cooked to order instead of the usual canteen style/food warmer food selection.
I❤️food
This place is very new! It's a Filipino restaurant with Filipino chef. The food is good and the service is awesome! Needs a lot of improvement with the menu. the main dish comes with rice. Nothing wrong with it but it needs to be clear in the menu. They also have cakes. Worth the visit To say the least. If you are not familiar with Filipino food, then this restaurant is a good place to start.
John Santos
Finally good to see a full service Filipino cuisine with western fusion restaurant in the city of Melbourne! There are plenty of Filipino restaurants in town but you need to order and pay first before enjoying your meal. Now in the heart of North Melbourne we have a fine specimen of Filipino cuisine that is mated to great and friendly service and a very nice relaxed ambience. Was only able to try a few of the starters as we were full. The food was okay and tasty. We ordered the Pop chicken and lumpia (spring rolls). Had a hot chocolate as well and it was creamy and very velvety. Our friends ordered mains and I wish we were hungry enough to have ordered the same. Quite impressed and hope to be back again soon.
FOOD TRIP
Just wanted a place to stop by and chill after lunch. Drawn in by the desserts at Reynaldo's. It was average. Wouldn't come back. Chocolate Mud ~ $9. Way too dry for such a dense cake. 3/10. Panna Cotta ~ $11. More of a heavy custard consistency. Hidden at the bottom were little mango pieces which was a good discovery. Good that it wasn't too sweet. 7/10

I was taken to this restaurant by a Pilipino friend who was delighted to finally find a Pilipino restaurant - the food was great and met her high expectations! Can't fault it good food, friendly service and the taro cake desert bright purple in colour is worth going back for alone! We ate too much and the cost was $30pp.
Tigerlili
The food is quite expensive for what I am getting. Taste wise, I still like GJ's better. However, adobo sa Gata brought me back to my hometown and the ambience was so much better than other Filo restaurants around.

Thought this may be a good eatery in our neighbourhood. Terribly disappointed with the food quality - bland and tasteless.
Chef-owner?! I expected better.

A new Filipino restaurants hits Melbourne – Reynaldo’s Grill and Sizzles. Together with GJ’s Grill these two would have to be my favorite Melbourne Filipino restaurants so far!. Can you tell my mum is excited about the kare kare? :). We ordered:– BBQ pork skewers. – Kare Kare – beef, tripe and ox tail in a creamy peanut sauce served with bagoong (shrimp paste) and beans and greens (a nice, generous serving!)
