Review Carte Crepes - Melbourne

Ella Baker
I went here for lunch & I'll definitely be back! If you like mushrooms, you'll definitely like the breakfast crepe. Staff were very friendly and service was quick :)

By far the best coffee in the cbd. The seating atmosphere is peaceful and serene. I’ve been having crepes and coffee here since one year and I’ve never been disappointed.

The best coffee on campus and the nicest staff. Oh, and the crepes !! Yumm

Super friendly staff and nice coffee. Definitely recommend if you ate on campus. The staff saw us standing while talking with a group of friends and she came out and got us chairs so we didn't have to stand. I was really grateful for that.

Really tasty crepes and coffee!! One of the best I’ve ever tasted. And fairer price than the ones in cbd. Strawberry and netalla is my fav. Impressive!

It's one of my favourite coffee places in town. The long black coffee is really good. They also serve crepes, but I did not try them yet. The staff is very friendly and they really seem to love what they do. So sit down and have a break here.

In my 6 years of University of Melbourne, Carte Crepes have remained my favourite place to buy coffee. They have a loyalty program where every 10th coffee is free and the company is always creamy, slightly nuttt and overwhelmingly delicious. I usually order a strong skinny latte and they still manage to make it creamy... how do they do that? As the cherry on top of this delicious cake; the staff at Carte Crepes are always so delightful at it's worth going the extra 20 metres.

Great crepes but they're a bit difficult to eat on the go, they tend to collapse on themselves in the paper holder since they're soft. Best to eat on the spot, even better with utensils.

It is exceptionally hard to go wrong with a $4 crepe. I stuck with the basics - butter and sugar - and it was so damn good. The guy who worked there was so friendly and organised water for me, and they serve Allpress coffee for just $3.60! My friend had the salted caramel crepe and we can both report it is as good as it sounds. Won't hesitate to head there again for a sugar hit soon.

Crepes are always a nice snack to go for although sometimes I find the prices to be slightly pricey, but Carte Crepes have reasonable prices with good amount of filling and topping options.

Salted caramel was not overly sweet and had a hint of saltiness which complimented the crepes. Crepes were nice and soft and fragrant. Bananas I had in it were fresh. Filling was consistent throughout the whole crepe as well.

Mocha was delicious. Great flavour notes in espresso and cocoa was more on the bitter than the sweet side which i prefer. Milk was nicely frothed. Great cuppa! Good price too. Will come back just for coffee too.

Also as a bonus they're on Liven.

Decent crepes hidden away in a quiet area of Melbourne Uni. I enjoyed the breakfast crepe on the blackboard - egg, ham, spinach, mushroom and feta ($8.50). Crepe could have been thinner or crispier. Service is quick and friendly. They have a great fresh juice menu as well as the usual coffees.

Many thanks to the two wonderful men who were here on a Saturday and who, even though they weren’t open, made me a coffee and didn’t even let me pay for it. Made working on the weekend much more tolerable!

I normally get my coffee on campus from house of cards but given this lovely interaction and the fact that the coffee was delicious, I think I’ll have to start coming here instead. A+
Crabapples For Lunch
Ate here really frequently at one point, and would often have the ham, cheese and mustard crepe. Good hit of mustard (I usually ask them to tone it down), and nice ham and cheese. Not very filling though to be honest - I often started to get a bit hungry before the next meal. But it's great if you're looking for something light or a snack. They also frequently have offers like a free crepe after your exams if you show proof!

Carte Crepe is a hidden gem in University of Melbourne. Heard good feedback on their crepes. Ordered the dark chocolate with coconut. I wished there was more filling. The dark chocolate had the right amount of sweetness for the crepe, and the shredded coconut was a nice addition of texture to the crepe. I also tried their savoury crepe, which was the vegan crepe, with mushroom, spinach, and feta cheese. They put waaay too much feta cheese. It was overly salty and overwhelming. Ended up not finishing it. It’s better to stick to their sweet crepes.

The flavor of crepe is the GREATEST I‘ve ever taste! The staff is nice and friendly as well!OMG Definitely recommend to everyone! You cannot miss it!

I like this place! The staff are really efficient and friendly. I enjoyed my coffee and Nutella and strawberry crepe but I think the coffee could be a touch hotter and a more Nutella added to the crepe ( although they could probably put in half the jar and I could still go for more) cute little eating area outside.
Christy
Extremely friendly staff who always seem to really enjoy what they do. Coffee a little bit on the weaker side but that’s understandable because their specialty would be crepes. While coffee’s a 3/5, this is set to change as soon as I try one of the crepes on their extensive menu!

*Boosting up to 4 because their crepes are a solid 5/5 and very affordable too!

Excellent crepes, good selection of sweet and savory flavours to choose from. Great coffee.
Small number of seats available under umbrellas.

Quick service. Love the hole in the wall setup. Banana and nutella crepe yes please give me 2. Haven't tried the coffee though so i can't comment.

What's not to love? You have Nutella and crepes. The crepes are made in front of you, the staff are friendly. Why didn't I come here earlier? Keep up the great work.

Been coming here for years and years to fuel my brain. Attached at the hip of the John Medley building, they're pretty much the only cafe I visit when I'm on the main campus. While their coffees are always excellent (they're the cafe that helped me enjoy coffee as a beverage and not merely as a drug), their friendly baristas just help me form such a loyalty to this cafe. They also have a great selection of crepes.

I hear a lot of positive things about this little joint and maybe I just happened to have been unlucky on the day I came. My crepe was rubbery and unfortunately unenjoyable to eat. Staff are friendly, and the place is located on campus. It'd make a nice little place to sit down with friends in between classes. But personally for me, I don't think I'll come back.
Confessions Of A Foodie
Easy place to go for a quick coffee and crepe. Coffee was average. And if you order a salted caramel crepe like I did, the caramel oozes out the bottom of the crepe and you lose basically all the filling in the cardboard package. So, basically packaging needs improvement. Taste was ok, but yeah...
Phlebebe
Carte is where I go when I want a coffee on campus and smell the crepes. I love the coffee here. It's consistent and smooth, plus they have loyalty cards! Win Win! The crepes are fantastic too, my fave is the snickers with Dark chocolate, unfortunately I get salted caramel all over my face when I eat it, but it's a testament to the wonderful crepes. PB

Nutella Strawberry crêpe ! I really like a dessert when it gives me Foodgasm. This time it was one of the best foodgasms that I've had in my entire life ! Omg it was one true moment of happiness. The crêpes are amazingly delicious. The best part is that the carte is owned by the ex students of University of Melbourne and they're doing a pretty good job. A must visit for those who have a big sweet tooth. 🙂

I used to come here often when I studied at Melbourne Uni. Their nutella crepes are always on point and filled with a generous amount of nutella! I've had special flavours as well, such as lamington, and although they're yummy I always find myself going back to the good old nutella. It's a classic that can't be beaten!
Joacorka
A place you go to satisfy you sweet tooth! My personal favorite is Nutella and marshmallows. The marshmallows are perfectly melted and go so well with the hot Nutella crepe. Their coffee is decent. Waiting time is sometimes a bit too long, but with their limited space it's understandable. Carte crepes is definitely a must when you are hanging around Melbourne Uni area.

It's dangerous that these delicious crepes are available on campus- my waistline is very much at risk! Prices are pretty reasonable and there are a variety of choices that cater to taste and dietary requirements. Coffee is also very good, cold drinks offered in bio-cups, which is impressive. The creme brulee crepe was scrumptious. Service is quick and cheerful.
Jeev
Melbourne Uni student's absolute favourite I would say! Their crepes are just nice for a quick snack between lectures and one can never say no to their Nutella crepe! Loads of Nutella and definitely a must try!
Aki
Sweet tooth alert! I like their Nutella and Marshmallow Crepe. The marshmallows melt into Nutella in a hot buttery crepe. Aww, yum! They put a looooot of marshmallows into it. Even the both-hand strategy is not working. Heads up: Try eating it facing a wall so no one sees the chocolate and marshmallow bits got onto your cheeks. Need multiple tissues. (The staff knew what she did, very thoughtful of her, she gave me a pile)

Crepe Crepe crepe!!!
Was eager for a good crepe in Melbourne and this place fit right in. Urban list helped in making the choice. Located in university of Melbourne, on the engineering lane is this tiny shop.
They offer a variety of toppings and also allow you to make your own crepe. I tried the brulee which was one of their signature creations which had vanilla cream and salted caramel packed in a delightful way. 6 bucks for all that is quite a steal.

All of the crepes offered at this stand sound too delicious to be true and their Facebook page shows that they are constantly coming up with new ideas! My personal favourite is Nutella & Strawberries...

I feel I share a special bond with Carte Crepes. We both started our journeys at The University of Melbourne in 2010, and we both love nutella and crepes, individually and together, paired with the perfect coffee or hot chocolate (depending on how much of a sweet tooth you have!) French Mint Hot Chocolate with soy milk The soy cap is my go-to on a regular day - the perfectly brewed coffee combined with soy milk steamed to my ideal temperature hits the right spot every time. But if you're feeling like something a little sweeter, then the French Mint hot chocolate is the perfect blend of refreshingly warm, chocolately goodness on a cold Winter morning. I like to save this one for special occasions! But the best part about Carte? The free crepes upon completion of your exams! The only thing that gets me through those tedious all-nighters spent studying is the knowledge that I will be able to sink my teeth into a delicious complimentary nutella crepe after my final exam. If you're a studen

Always great!. A happy returning customer. The Nutella strawberries crepe and lemon sugar is my favorite. You can't go wrong with any other options.

Consistently good coffee. The friendly staff here consistently make great coffee and crêpes. Well worth a try if in the area - Lamington and snickers crêpes are the best!

My fave treat!. The crepes are delicious! I love the salted caramel one - and am often covered in caramel by the time I devour it!
They just introduced savoury crepes to there menu. Ham cheese and chutney crepe was to die for!!
Julianna
Generous with the Nutella. Little can beat a $4 Nutella crepe. Except maybe a Nutella, raspberry jam and coconut crepe (my personal favourite), or Nutella and peanut butter for that delicious sweet, nutty and crunchy sensation . Strawberries and bananas are always fresh. Salted caramel is a little bland on its own, but goes great in the Snickers.
Hot chocolates are frickin' delicious. Even beating the glorious Toblerone at Castros (which is a little too teeth-hurting sweet).
Cash only. Staff are friendly.
All in all, a quick and delicious between-lecture treat.
Shana
Yum yum yum. The nutella, salted caramel, banana crepe is insane!!
And the crepes are really nice and soft with lots of filling. Thanks!

Amazing crepes! Can't get better than the Nutella and strawberry crepe. Can't wait to get one this week when uni is back

French crêpe ? More like a thin pancake. These aren't your authentic French crêpes. First mistake : they don't put rum in the batter (we use Negrita in Southern France which gives a good kick, and in the North they usually add beer). Second mistake : they're way too thick. They're more like thin pancakes, even though the batter is ok. It looks like a huge blini, or a Canadian crêpe. Besides, the butter they put in is too salty, a little salt is nice, but this was too much. Oh and they don't have a whipped cream crêpe, or a crêpe Suzette (butter, sugar, Grand Marnier, lemon and orange). Big mistake.

Don't get me wrong, you can find thick crêpes like that in some parts of France, but it's not the typical French crêpe people expect. Besides, you get one type of crêpe, only the fillings differ. Why not doing different types of crêpes : different thickness, different flours (corn, wheat, chestnut _ delicious _, etc...) ? Unfortunately with this secluded location in the Uni, the lack of authenticity, and the pricy crêpe (people would be glad to order a smaller crêpe for half the price), I'm not sure they'll be here for long. It's up to them to improve their crêpes.

Best. In. Melbourne.. Love these crepes and love the vibe of the place. Hard to beat.

Awesome. Great crepes - definitely not too thick or spongy

Great coffee - some of the best I've had (better than Kere-kere coffee on campus)

Amazing location - convenient for grabbing a crepe/coffee on the way to or in between lectures

Fantastic service

Definitely a 10/10

Brilliant. Refreshing to find such a positive vibe on campus. I had lost my faith in a few of my usual haunts, but have found a new spot in Carte Crêpes. Beautiful glossy crêpes and rich smooth coffee, definitely one to check out!
Andrew Harris
Good, could be better. OK, not the best crêpes I've ever had (a little thick and spongy), not the best coffee I've ever had, but you can get them both in one very convenient location (for Uni folk), and with really friendly service. 6 out of 10 ;-)

BEST CREPES EVER!. Best crepes ever! Ever since trying Carte Crepes, no more high-end/expensive Harajuku crepes for me! :)

Great crēpes! Great People! Loves a smile!

Even better than I expected! Very generous with filings. Perfectly eggy.

Rapidly becoming a Melbourne Uni institution. A great little takeaway cart nestled in Melbourne Uni. The crepes are always crisp and the fillings are never skimped on, so they are great value for money.

Best crêperie in Melbourne. Hands down.. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I probably wouldn't believe it. A crêperie at Melbourne Uni?
It's a great idea, and the place has such a nice, unique vibe to it. The crêpes are super affordable ($4 for a Nutella crêpe - awesome value for money when you see how much Nutella they put in!); they have delish savoury crêpes like goat's cheese and spinach or free-range egg, ham and cheese; they use biodegradable packaging; and they do a gluten-free batter.
The best part is this place does French-inspired crêpes with an Australian twist (cheese and vegemite crêpe = best).
My only warning would be they sometimes sell out by 5pm so I wouldn't leave it too late. Get there by 4.30 to be safe.
I recommend Crepes a la Carte to everyone - student or not. Great for little kids too - they can add marshmallows or hundreds and thousands (yum).

...getting through the afternoon hours with my eyes open and brain functioning are particular difficult to achieve. It’s days like these where a visit to Carte Crêpes provide just the pick me up I need to beat 3-o’ clock itis.
Katherine Chiu
The place is really only a take away place is probably not such a great idea to visit when it is wet.
Addy
They offer quite a range of sweet crepes and a few savoury ones as well.
Libby Margo
Known as ‘The Snickers’, this crêpe is one of the crêperie’s most popular items and I can certainly see why. It might not look pretty but man, was it divine.
