Quality Japanese food. I've ordered the Salmon don and bento box numerous times. Very fresh and tasty.
An impromptu random stop in Mitcham ended up with a quick dinner. We wanted to have Korean food but the place was fully booked. So we decided to try Japan Yomo next door for some Japanese food.
🔆LOCATION🔆
Japan Komo Restaurant is situated on Whitehorse Road, really close to the corner of Mitcham Road along the busy shopping precinct.
The décor is simple yet has signature Japanese displays. There is limited seating (maximum 25 people) with a bar bench at the back next to the register/bar area.
🔆SERVICE🔆
As we didn’t have a booking and the place was pretty full, we were advised the only seating available was at the walled bench area. This was fine with us as we weren’t planning to stay long for dinner. The staff were all Japanese, and it seemed like it was a family run business.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
We ordered:
Teriyaki Beef Bento, $17.90
(includes edamame, gyoza, salad, vegie croquette and rice)
Tasmania Roll, $20.90
(Torched salmon with special sauce on California roll with salmon inside)
🔆VERDICT🔆
Wow! 9 very generous size sushi pieces in the Tasmania Roll! We thoroughly enjoyed it. The salmon was lightly torched and had a nice smoked charred flavour. The rice was really fresh, soft and still warm. The avocado and crab meat along with raw salmon on the middle were all fresh as well. Yum!! It’s no wonder the charge $20.90 for this dish. It would be great if they could do a half-serve size (i.e. Entrée) as that would be a good meal size for 1 person hehe!
The Teriyaki Bento was also tasty. The beef was nicely marinated in teriyaki sauce. I particularly love the vegetable croquettes. It was soo fresh, soft and tasty. I felt that it was a little over-priced for the bento though. Overall, a good meal.
A very nice little place in the busy street with a nice Japanese lady looking after the restaurant.
We got the teriyaki chicken bento box and the pan fried gyoza for a bite. The pan fried gyoza wasnt the best with a batter going above it qhich ruins the texture.
However the miso soup and the bento box was top notch. Slightly on the higher end of the price scale, its still really a good experience for any kind of occasion.
Japan Komo is a nice little Japanese restaurant. The food is simple and done well. The Wagyu Bento was tasty - the wagyu was very tender. But the Unagi Bento was quite mediocre. The Japanese curry has mushrooms in it which was quite an interesting addition. The Oyako Don was quite enjoyable though, but lacking umami flavour.
Family run business with fresh sashimi and lots of love. Although its on the pricey end, it’s absolutely worth every cent. You should try their sushi stack - its unique and eye catching! Love how they make the rolls on order, noone likes rolls sitting in the fridge for hours. You need to keep in mind that they dont open on Sundays!
To be honest, when the beef tataki came in and having a Woolworth salad taste, I was not expecting the oyako don to be any good. Yet I was wrong, the chicken is soo soft that even has a sponge texture, along with the silky egg, and sprinkle of light soy sauce, the whole dish was mind changing. I decide to give it a 4/5, will be back again to explore some more hidden content.
We enjoyed a dinner at Komo. We ordered the tempura prawn inside out roll, salmon salad, and eel sizzling plate. The inside out roll was fabulous - big, chunky and filled with lots of ingredients. The salmom salad was fresh. The sizzling eel had a flavourful sauce but was a bit charred imo. Unfortunately they ran out of green tea ice cream the day we went.

Good and affordable food. The udon is very tasty. The bento boxes are really nice and pretty cheap considering the size and quality. The service is fast. It is actually quite impressive as they don’t have many staff. They can improve a bit on the smiles and attention to customers. However I can understand that they need to rush with the limited staff. Parking is a bit difficult to get in front of it but there’s plenty of parking behind the shopping complex in the multi level car park. This place is definitely one of our family favourites.
Simple beautiful Japanese food that is nourishing, has a depth of flavour, carefully prepared and inexpensive, will keep coming back, wonderful staff
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious and affordable food. The curry was quite generous!
Visited this friendly restaurant and ordered the Tempera Don, the taste is overall above average.
The veggie and prawn tempera were crispy and tasty, but the chicken tempera was slightly over-fried. That’s why I give 4 stars instead of 5.
Reasonable price, a suitable place for Japanese causal dining.
My niece favorite japanese restaurant. The service is fast, knows the right angle in taking photos 😀😀 the foods are delicious, price is pretty reasonable. A clean and nice ambience in the dining area.
Found this little gem in amongst very few restaurants in the area. Relaxing atmosphere with good music, lighting, decor. Food was tasty and affordable. My seafood Udon noodles were slightly chewy and well cooked. Hoped for more fresh seafood. Got a lot of processed fish balls. Okonomiyaki was good and everyone enjoyed their food. Curry rice has a bit of spice to it, so if you can't take much heat maybe avoid that dish. Will be returning to try out more dishes.
Great Japanese restaurant. Really nice dishes at fair prices.
Good taste, fair price and excellent service.
The food was good but disappointed that my panko prawns were swapped out for butterfly prawns without any communication from the restaurant.
p.s Food was still good though, will definitely return.
