The food here and the vibes here are amazing. We came when it was quiet and the food was super good! We got the gyozas 🥟 the assorted sashimi , katsu Chicken 🍗 as well as the salmon aburi and there was absolutely no regret!
The katsu Chicken was cooked perfectly and was an absolute delight to eat! I highly recommend everything we ordered!
The guisas were super flavourful and texture and amount of meat per gyoza was amazing too!
Salmon aburi was just an explosion of the most amazing flavours all working together in your mouth 💥
Assorted sashimi was fresh and tasty!
Overall I would highly recommend coming here and tasting the food !

Small, modern Japanese restaurant offering Japanese tapas (‘japas’) dishes & sushi/sashimi. Have always generally enjoyed the food at TME & on my latest visit ordered: crunchy salad (delicious and one of my favourite things on the menu), salmon oshi (another firm favourite), kamikaze roll (pretty good), Nasu dengaku (tasty), & miso soup (average). Yuzu mocktail was watery & disappointing. Staff are really friendly & attentive, price is reasonable, some dishes are a bit hit & miss (as I’ve learnt over several visits), but on the whole the food is good here.
The hostess was sooo nice and friendly. Recommended some dishes. We went with the nigiri, baos, miyazaki chicken, spicy tuna roll, and paired it with genmaicha and hoji tea!
Had most of the items here over the course of time. The aburi nigri is always good! Aburi salmon and wagyu bento are normally my go to dishes. Delish!
I was recommended to try TME and let me tell you.. it did not disappoint. Everything was so delicious and was made practically infront of us.
Even the mocktails were tasty and refreshing and the waitstaff were attentive.
Literally could not fault anything except the neon cat sign which made my eyes feel funny haha.
100% would recommend.

Really enjoyed their seared sushi the last time I went here. Still just as good!
We ordered the Grazing Platter and 2 other dishes, shared among 4 of us. Needed to undo my belt at the end. Refilled to milk those delicious tea leaves.
If you are looking for modern, fusion flavours in your sushi and some Japanese hospitality in a casual, cozy setting, The Modern Eatery ticks all that. Even better, you’ll be grateful how close it is to the carpark!
A Mt Lawley gem! My partner and I tried this place on a whim last night and our expectations were truly exceeded. I’m not sure what my expectations were -but I’m usually wary of places that serve ‘modern Asian tapas’ and that look really trendy/instagrammable.
Anyway, my wariness was not warranted because the service was prompt and friendly; the food was delicious, authentic (with a modern twist), and really good value (as in, we were on the verge of food comas for
Japas - Japanese styled tapas. Menu designed to share however their dishes are sizeable and can be eaten on their own
We had the pork bowl, cheesy tofu, edamame and chicken bowl
Pork bowl had tender slices of seared pork with lots of flavoured rice and some herbs. Delicately flavoured
Their speciality is seared so they do seared sushi as well
Their bbq spiced fries with Japanese garlic mayo was French fries with green sweet paprika salt served with thick mayo with a slight garlic flavour
They have a small drinks menu with a section for mock tails

How good is the place. Boxing day, empty, and tye super yummy food just kept coming out. An interesting international menu. I hate to say Perth had a top shelf restaurant. When people realise how great they a place is you will have to queue and book. Such a bright young cree making good food happen. Adriano
The Salmon Oshi is really good. I ate it very quickly. I tried the Cherry Blossom Lemon Lime and Bitters, but it didn't have a particularly distinctive taste.
