This is my go-to place whenever I crave Japanese lunch boxes (and that's very often!). Its about 10 mins from me so I am always here to the point the staff remembers my order by heart. The food is great and the price is very reasonable. I would definitely recommend this place!!!
This place has been an all time favorite. The quality and the taste of the food stays consistent throughout the years. Ive been going to this place a lot for nearly 10 years now. Love their special teriyaki sauce, its house-made and you cant get it anywhere else. This place is always packed during lunch time. Best to book before coming.
My family and I have been coming here for the last 15yrs several times a month. Honestly the best teriyaki chicken in Sydney. Would also recommend the agaedashi tofu for starters and the pork maki and wafu steak.
Great neighbourhood gem! Food is always fresh and perfect for a family gathering. Sashimi is fantastic and try the pork maki!! Service is always excellent.

In the days before smartphones, one needed to visit a restaurant to find out if they were any good at all. One would then have a proper conversation over the (hopefully) enjoyable meal and company. We neednt any devices to know about kyushu as it was 1 of our go-to more than a decade ago along with koh-ya (moved to randwick) n kintaro (now closed). It was pretty much like meeting a good friend whom you havent met in ages and found that you simply picked up where you left off and it gave you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
They dont do anything spectacular except serving simple trad jap food w good qual ingredients and not taking shortcuts in prep. Comforting to see menu has not changed at all which serves to underline their focus on consistency. And consistent they were to a fault as our orders of crumbed oysters 4/5, salmon sashimi 3.75/5, agedashi tofu (4/5) and pork tonkatsu (3.75/5) were exactly how i remembered them down to the serving plates AND presentation.
If you havent been, give kyushu a go.
I have been regularly going to Kyushu for lunch and dinner for more than a decade now. Their lunch time special bentos are value for money and consists of a varied selection of mains and quality accompaniments. The sashimi is prepared fresh by a dedicated sushi chef in the kitchen.
Even though its on the salty side, I think the Chicken Teriyaki is the best in Sydney. If only they had a shop in the CBD so I can get my bento fix!
Basic menu executed well.
Little on the pricier side for Japanese food but is always fresh and not as salty and mayo drenched as other Japanese restaurants.
Recommend pork maki and teriyaki beef.
Restaurant is very loud though so do not recommend if you intend on a quiet conversation
Kyushu is definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants around Sydney, with reasonable price and portions. It's always a nice place for special occasions like birthdays/anniversaries. We ordered their SALMON LOVER (ENTREE), TEMPURA, FRIED OYSTERS, NEBAYAKI UDON, EEL HANDROLL, SALMON HANDROLL, TABOKKI NIGIRI and GREEN TEA ICECREAM. Everything was delicious and the sashimi/sushi were very fresh. Love their fried oysters in particular! Staffs were very friendly and helpful as well despite having a full house. Definitely recommend if you're looking for an authentic Jap restaurant!

Delicious food, we had the teriyaki chicken and it was absolutely phenomenal! Perfectly cooked chicken with crispy skin and a beautifully crisp side salad. Great sized portions! Had a very laid / casual back ambience however only problem was I asked for water numerous times and no one brought me water. 10/10 would recommend
Creative, tasty and thinking out of the box japanese food...thats what i saw in this resturant!
For entree we had the pork maki which is thinly sliced pork roll with shallot in the middle and fried with a dippy sauce and the grilled eggplant which was beautifully cooked.
For mains we had the waffu steak with dipping sauce which was cooked to perfection and the hot pot which was good but similar to korean hotpot so think i will try something else next time.
Overall great tasting food and look forward to next time.
For 2 entrees, 1 beer, warm saki to share and 2 mains was just over $100 so reasonable price i think.
Nice place, quite crowded.
I am not expert in Japanese food but everything is freaking good.
They have dishes that you can’t usually find in the other Japanese restaurants
Highly recommended
Kyushu is a no frills and unpretentious Japanese Restaurant. The food is authentic and delicious and requires no gimmicks! Nigiri sushi was perfectly made and the tonkatsu was super fresh and crispy. (Wish the pork was slightly fattier) Overall a great place for authentic Japanese food but make sure to book in advance as it gets quite busy on a Saturday night.
A great easy place for reasonably priced yummo japanese food. I like the pork maki and the sashimi platters. Takeaway is also great. Bookings required as it gets really busy. I take friends for the sukinabe which is also great!
Love the food! Make sure you book coz the restaurant gets really busy especially on the weekend.
Really impressed all the tasty food! Especially the teriyaki beef. Very busy at rush hour, I would suggest booking a table first:)
Been to many Japanese restaurants in my life in several countries including Japan, Kyushu is right up there with my top favourites. This establishment in Neutral Bay is a must visit. Do remember to make a booking, it’s always busy.
They do pretty awesome sashimi and sushi. But the thing to rave about is the teriyaki dishes they have. The chicken one was a real winner. Lightly battered and pan fried till crispy. Coated with a teriyaki sauce that is literally THE best teriyaki sauce ever. Let’s not compare the sauce to top yakitori places, those sauces are of a different class. Kyushu’s teriyaki sauce is divine. Perfect sweetness, saltiness and of course umami. The deep fried octopus is almost as good as the chicken. A real dilemma for me.
Honestly I would think any of the teriyaki dishes would be awesome.
Do yourself a favour, go with an expectation to eat something good and you will end the meal feeling great.
Thank you Kyushu.
