Came here last week for my work Christmas party. The pasta I had was amazing! The ragu meat melted apart and the portion was very generous (and rightly so seeing it was $25). Drinks reasonable prices too. Only downside was it was very loud and hard to hear my colleagues in the beer garden.
When we were asked for suggestions for dinner, I put forward the Wesley Anne up the road. I had been curious about this pub in a converted old church on the high street. It is brimming with heritage charm, albeit a gloomy lack of light. There are quite a few vegetarian offerings. The food is a cut above your average pub grub and leans towards Italian dishes.
Beautiful ambiance. Best Roo fillet I've ever eaten. Apparently it was marinated for hours overnight, but cooked to perfection. $15 bargain with a lovely wine inc. Vego spaghetti was ok, although not a stand out. The best part about the Wesley is the gorgeous venue, dim lights & the fires & heaters everywhere. Staff a friendly too.
Classic and laid back bar great for a wine or dinner. Inside dull lighting makes it a cute date spot too. Bar staff are friendly and food is tasty. Also has an outside area so covers all basis. Wesley Anne is one I’d recommend for anyone coming to High Street.
Once upon a time about 16 years ago I used to call Northcote home. Now I hardly recognise this strip of bars and cafes. Wesley Anne was a church in a former life and has a mood and mix of crowd that brought me way back. Dimly lite and quirky decorations and acoustic music all added to the appeal and I felt instantly relaxed. Drinks wise a good selection of beers mostly crafty little numbers and although they weren’t able to make KD’s Southside (her drink of choice atm) the bar staff were very willing to give her recommendations. She ended up with an armeretto sour which was all marzipan and tasty. Food looked great here based purely on the special board. Sticky and slow cooked springs to mind along with pub favourites.
This venue has a wonderful vibe and the free music in the bar of a weekend evening is excellent. Of all the Northcote pubs this is the most female friendly. They serve good food and have a cosy slow combustion fire in winter which makes the Wesley Anne the perfect place for a date with mates or someone special ..
Have done this a few times now. Great place for a drink and above average pub food. The entree prawns a real winner and a must try. Beef cheek also great on a cold night. Beer garden at the back grungingly good. Friendly staff who appeared switched on. Good selection of beer and wine.
Yep, definitely coming here again.
Food was great we had the ricotta gnocchi with chorizo and prawn And off the specials board the lamb shank with veggies and mash. The star was definitely the gnocchi the flavour had a lot of punch. The venue of pretty cool too and the candle light makes it 'oh so romantic'. The wait staff just need a bit of training around customer service, I don't think I heard any of them say a word (just collected our plates).
Went here tonight with my dog and my mates, I can't say enough good things about the staff here! So kind and attentive, brought us out blankets because we were cold sitting in the court yard, dragged a second heater over to make us even more comfortable! Food was the best pub food Iv ever had and the staff made a point of saying good night to us when we left. Thanks guys, you are bloody awesome!
What a great spot! The Wesley Anne really has everything. An amazing interior that is both homely and majestic, with an olde timey feel and and enough burning candles to make you feel like you're in the Prancing Pony in Bree. Meals are excellent with generous portions, and there's a solid selection of booze. There's a great bandroom with a wood heater keeping the room toasty in the colder months, and of course the expansive beer garden. The only way this place could be better is if they built a stable and kept horses.
Hard to evaluate accurately since we went there on a public holiday. They were short-staffed, perhaps the kitchen as well. It wasn't that busy but there is a noticeable wait on the food. Otherwise, service was good, food was good. Lamb ribs and chili mussels are highly recommended, cauliflower tacos not so much. For brunch, their bread is good and coffee is up to par. Be nice to the servers, they are nice people.
Small but nice selection of beer, for dinner I had the chicken and mushroom pie which was ok. There was a solo act performing at the time I think his name is Hugh McGinlay he was quite good and would go back to see him again.
Very impressed with the dinner we ate here on Saturday evening. The roo fillets were so tender they cut like butter, the pork belly was tasty and all sides were great. Plenty of vegan options and dietary requirements accounted for on menu.
Meal sizes were plentiful and orders came out promptly.
Beer garden out back with the fire pit going makes for a relaxed setting to enjoy a meal with friends.
What a delightful surprise this place was for us! We had been working hard moving my friend in to her new house nearby and wanted a late lunch. The online ordering and payment system is very high tech and worked well. It's a little daunting for older folk like us but ultimately a bit of fun. The food was delicious. I had gnocchi and my friend had the lamb. Both were cooked to perfection, were tasty and generous serves. To top it off they had my favourite cider. Prices were reasonable and the waiter was friendly and cute. I'm sure we'll be back.
Charming old church turned pub with beer garden, fireplace in operation outside on cool nights, and simple but well executed food. Vegetarian friendly and half a dozen craft beers on tap. Has become my local go-to for a casual dinner.
Adorable bar inside what used to be a church. It’s all candle-lit inside and feels so cosy and intimate, you can definitely waste away hours in here, what they offer on tap and the menu is pretty decent. Definitely a regular go-to.
it’s super cool, dark and cosy inside, it’s like back to be stone age-ish style.
the food portion were generous, we have the chicken and lamb, mixed veggies , and sticky date pudding, soo good, so full 😚
Great fun vibe, friendly staff, lovely live jazz, very gorgeous date, yummy cocktails, delectable food!!
