I love Shokuiku! I was only able to enjoy the raw panna cotta today and a smoothie but they were both AMAZING and so full of flavour. I must pop back for a more substantial meal, which no doubt would be utterly amazing too. It’s a lovely space and close to the tram plus the staff are lovely!
Super delish. Love this place, it's amazing. Even the food that doesn't sound that good is. So innovative and health-conscious as well, have had the pleasure of once meeting Yoko as well!
Ordered the raw burger for delivery. It came very neatly unassembled, which saved the salad from making the "bread" and "patty" too soggy. If you like raw food, you'll love this vegan burger. It's nutty, filling yet light, and tastes nothing like a burger. Just as one should expect with raw dishes. It's never going to taste like what it's trying to mimic, but it's great in its own right- especially that sauerkraut and cashew cheese. Some chewy flax crackers accompanied my meal and add a nice bit of crunch and healthy fats/fibre. As one of the few restaurants around offering raw, vegan dishes, Shokuiku is a shining light amongst heaps of junk food vegan options.
Came in the other day seeking for an healthy lunch option and Shokuiko had the right menu for the job. Herbal and medicinal teas, tonic smoothies, pressed juices, shots and smoothie bowls.
I ordered a superberry bowl with açaí and yumberry base, homemade granola and seasonal fruit. It was tasty, crunchy, fresh and delicious, plus it was raw and healthy.
Thank you for having me :)
Didn't try the menu just a few smoothies from possibly the most in depth menu board I have had the pleasure of squinting my way through. The three we tried were delicious as was the yummy cake we rather meanly shared. Lovely warm service too
Came here two years ago and the lunch menu hasn't changed much since. Tried their improvised dinner menu once and the experience wasn't great due to weird tasting combos of raw food. Dinner was quite pricey.
The small mixed salads for lunch is ultra healthy and detoxing especially with organic ingredients.
Mixed salad today consisted of delicious zucchini (shaped as spaghetti noodles) with mixture of green leaves, carrots with beans, kale with purple carrots, sunflower seeds and purple cabbage.
Almond milk with warm bitter cacao was nice and nutritious.
Shot of blue-green live E3 algae at the end of meal was a really good refresher!!
Highly recommend this lovely place for lunch.
Great selection of fresh raw and vegan food.
Was on the road and got a 3pm sweet craving. I decided to treat myself and looked up a cafe to get a healthy snack.
Stopped into Shokuiku and got a warm chai and raw dessert - was exactly what I needed and actually kept me crazy full until dinner.
Shokuiku (Kanji: 食育) – the Japanese term that refers to the “acquisition of knowledge about food and nutrition, as well as the ability to make appropriate decisions through practical experience with food, with the aim of developing people’s ability to live on a healthy diet”.
Now more than ever, in a world of highly processed, take-away foods and endless convenience options, food education is essential to create a healthy life style. Japanese-born blogger and owner of Shokuiku, Yoko, started her health and wellness journey when she was pregnant with her daughter. She didn’t want her child to experience lifeless, denatured food full of additives and preservatives. So she took it upon herself to study Macrobiotics at Kushi Institute of Japan, as well Holistic Nutrition, which deepened her understanding of the benefits that come from raw and living food cuisine.
Yoko then went on to open Shokuiku, a café where one can find inspiration through the nourishing meals and beverages on offer. Specialising in organic raw and living food, Shokuiku provides you with a new dynamic way of eating. With an impressive range of super foods, teas, and elixirs, the menu sparks creativity and caters to all tastes. Using only sustainably sourced, biodynamic ingredients, the meals manifest Shokukiku’s philosophy of raw and living food cuisine integrated with knowledge from both East Asian tradition and modern nutrition.
We often visit Shokuiku to get our matcha hit, and let me tell you this now – you won’t find a more authentic, creamy Matcha latté in Melbourne than here! Every antioxidant-rich sip simply makes you feel GOOD.
We’re also big fans of the Choco Bowl, an icy bowl with tiger nut brownie, tahini, cacao syrup and coconut chips. If you’re after a more warming breakfast dish, I highly recommend the Nutty Buckwheat Porridge with apple, pear, spices and toffee pieces. The porridge is served either at room temperature or warm to preserve gut-loving enzymes.
I also have to mention the home-made, raw desserts which are ideal guilt-free alternatives for sweet-tooths like me! I love the Vanilla and Chocolate Raw Dessert with pomegranate. Such a treat!
Amazing food! So many options, healthy and clean food. I tried the porridge with apples and a fresh juice with a few boosters, great location and right next to good vibes yoga.
