The yum cha at this place is great, good value and the food comes out quickly. What let’s this place down is the awful service which reading the other reviews is consistent with others experience. All the times we’ve been there, we’ve never had a smile, thank you or you’re welcome from any of the staff. If anything, they (including the manager) seem to be annoyed and burdened that you want to eat their food and give them your money. Today, we asked for chilli oil and were given one tiny serve (between 4) and when we asked for more we were told by a very unhappy waiter (wore glasses, short air, somewhat chubby guy) to only ask for more when we had finished. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh we really like the yumcha here but putting up with the terrible service is quite infuriating....

Loved the decor. The food was affordable and reasonable sizes for entree & mains. Table had complimentary prawn crackers! The staff were accommodating when I asked for a jug of cold water. Staff were friendly, but an occasional smile would have been good!

Firstly I would like to highlight how polite and efficient the staff were. All were attentive and prompt with taking orders and clearing plates. The food was really good we started with steamed dim sims, spring rolls and a shallot cake. All were fresh and great entrees. Mains we had lemon chicken, salt and pepper soft shell crab and Mongolian beef with fried rice. Great food. Great service in a great location with 3 hours free parking.

Absolutely amazing food here! I think this is the most authentic Yum Cha in Adelaide.
You must try their egg tarts and sweet BBQ bun if you want to know what real Canton food taste like.

The food here is acceptable chinese. I have been a few times now.

However, the service isnt the best. There is one ols staff member who is okay but the younger staff look like they hate being there.

Still happy to go here for some yummy chinese.

OMG another hot Adelaide day! Found myself aimlessly wandering around Norwood Parade and I needed my inner foodie radar to head me in some sort of luncheon direction! Radar and I went past Argo, acknowledged the insane line up of high school foodie wannabees and we raced right on past asking ourselves, Why Oh Why on earth would you wait in the heat, nightclub style, to eat at a Café? Beats me peeps!!!

GPS’s it into the Norwood Cinema complex and entered Eastern Garden, after promising myself and my foodie mates that I would never enter here again! Oops!

You see peeps, the story is, that 3 of us tried to get into Eastern Garden a few months back for dinner without a booking and were treated so badly, we vowed never to return! Well I did! And the real reason is, to see if the service has improved. Well, it has, on this occasion anyway.

This is quite a large restaurant and is still fairly new. The furnishings are probably a step up from the normal Chinese decorating that you see and of course set off with the obligatory fish tanks filled with yummy seafood goodness!

I was offered a choice of Yum Cha (cooked fresh) or A La Carte. Since it was just moi, I went for the Yum Cha menu. Tea was offered and I accepted. I ordered Radish Cakes (my fav), these were fresh and crispy, very good. Crispy wontons filled with prawn and lobster, again very good, bean curd rolls, yum and dumpling with shark fin soup, delicate and delicious. As I was waiting for my meals to arrive, I perused the A La Carte menu and I found some really interesting dishes that I would like to return for. Seeing Kangaroo and Crocodile on the menu as well as the normal staples, well, it intrigued me, so I will come back to try these dishes.

Whilst I was paying my bill at the counter, I grabbed a take away menu and questioned the waitress on what their delivery options were, there were none! This is almost unheard of these days, considering we have so many options, including Uber Eats. The waitress replied that they are too busy to do deliveries! Shame really.

Excited to try more of this menu, so will return.

P.S. I will mention that although the staff were attentive and prompt on this occasion, a smile goes a very long way. It’s almost as if the staff are unhappy here, just speculation of course.

Our family was delighted to find that although the Eastern Garden might have closed its doors on Greenhill Road, it has reopened in Norwood. Same good fresh yum cha at lunch time (11 and 1) delivered from a trolley or a tray. Still good, fast (if a bit brusque) service. We enjoy the many dumplings, dim sims, spring rolls with sides of green veggies and squid (I leave comments on the more speciality items for others, except to say they have plenty of variety). After arriving without a booking we said we were willing to wait 25 or so minutes and were issued a number. (Next time we might book as hanging about with kids is always a challenge). We walked around the block and we're back in good time for our table near the door. Drink orders were taken and delivered promptly. Dumpling options arrived soon after and a helpful waiter took orders when he cleared those baskets which made for an efficient but still atmospheric meal. All the food was tasty, fresh and well-cooked (in my white Aussie view) and I especially enjoyed the 'spinach' (& prawn) dumplings and steamed BBQ pork buns. It was very busy, but the hustle and bustle is all part of the fun. We were glad to be back!

Eastern Garden has high quality Yum Cha, the setting and decor are nice. The parking is free in the main car park, if you bring your ticket and get it processed when you are paying. What lets the experience down is the politeness of the staff, which reflects the manager - he doesn't say hello or goodbye, or treat you at all friendly. Its kind of like being in a street corner food place that doesn't care about the customers, because they will come anyway as the food is good. So, if you can look past that, it's very nice!

Generous servings and decent pricing. The Peking duck was enjoyable. We appreciated that there was just the right amount of pancakes for the pieces of duck. Other restaurants you sometimes find you have to order more pancakes or vice versa. You also get fried rice with the Peking duck meal which was good - although a little undercooked. Every table got complimentary prawn crackers which was nice. Between 4 adults we had the Peking duck meal (pancakes + fried rice), 3 mains (crispy beef, honey chicken & salt and pepper squid) and Chinese broccoli. We had a lot leftover which was great! Good value.

We've been looking for a good sweet and sour pork since arriving in Adelaide and just happened to see this place while driving by. As like other comments we too found the middle aged man at reception rather grumpy and dismissive. We arrived at 2.20pm and asked if we could still get a table only to be told the doors will be closed at 3pm. So again we asked can we still come in and order and eventually in his grumpy voice said yes. We were given a menu, ordered our sweet and sour pork and salt and pepper squid. Then we noticed other tables with Chinese people at them getting a different menu where they were ordering different plates of dumplings, dim sims etc. As it was getting closer to 3pm we didn't question staff as to why we didn't get that menu. I'd like to go back again to see what happens and get the other menu. Overall the food we had was great, served quickly and the wait staff where much nicer than the dude at the door. Food wise 5 stars and big share plates!
