Review Blackbird Restaurant - Perth

L T
Amazing experience with the 6 course preset menu. Value for money, soo filling and taste with every dish was distinctive down to every ingredient. Dishes cooked to perfection and serving turn over was quick. Intimate atmosphere and amazing drinks. Second time here and soo glad to have this gem of a restaurant that serves modern European food with soo much variety. Really should of been an anniversary date it was faultless.

Tucked away among the Claisebrook Cove Art trial I visited last night with a friend. Being a Wednesday it wasn't busy so service was quick. We ordered the carpaccio for starters and was very OK. The meat wasn't near thinly sliced enough and I felt like they tried to hide it with the forest layed on top. The meat should be so thin it tears apart easily. For the main I had the duck and that was delicious! Very intimate setting and staff were polite. Parking is pretty easy on the nearby back streets.

Atmosphere fantastic, service very friendly however your Boullaibaise really needs some work. I had 5 bites and to stop. It was like gulping a mouthful of Saltwater and the oil that was floating on top was unbelievable. If the noticed when we left my plate was still full. I have been to France a few times and I am a serial foodie. Definitely not a Seafood Soup by the taste and the colour. Sorry guys however the Chicken Fricasee my partner said was sensational.

The food and service is always amazing at the Blackbird! I took my sister there for her 25th birthday, it was an awesome experience, the waiter is very friendly and helpful, the food taste very nice & well presented, the atmosphere is very relaxed & romantic. Great place to visit for a special occasion.

We had a beautiful time with friends on Mothers Day! The views were magnificent to the River, the seating very comfortable and the food delicious! A really great dining experience!

Great restaurant with a decent (but not overwhelming) selection of classic French dishes with a modern twist. Not only did we enjoy our food immensely, but the service was friendly and quick.

Blackbird's popular Beef cheek bourguignon was served hot and excellent taste . Cocktails and foods were amazing and delicious. Excellent service and staff were very helpful and friendly. Very nice atmosphere , had enjoyable time at Blackbird restaurant ♥️. Definitely would comeback!!! Highly recommended!!!

The food was ok But I witnessed some of the worst customer service I have ever seen in a restaurant There are 2 tables near the door we were on one and throughout the evening wherever anyone went through the door it did not choose properly and let in a cold breeze of air. My wife and I had taken it in turns to close the door When another couple sat on the other table they were getting the same cold breeze. When they politely asked the manager to do something about it he told them to man up as it was only about 3 degrees different inside to out side and it was not like Denmark He was very dismissive of their request and in a very rude way of dealing with them. Both they and we asked to be put in contact with the owners about this as his behaviour to customers was terrible and they should know about it.

Had dinner at 8.00pm Saturday 29 August 2020. Nice ambiance and location but food mostly unpleasant and nothing French about it apart from the names. Beef carpaccio was good but bouillabaisse was quite awful and nothing like the French fish stew that bears it’s name. Booked earlier but booking cancelled by them without explanation so my wife re-booked. Not good.

Food not worth the price. Bland food and not worth the quality. Not returning. Been to better French food in Perth! Menu looks good but translated in person is pathetic.

The overall experience was impeccable. Our food was delicious and our service was fantastic. Our waitress was very professional and friendly and made our experience so nice (I didn't see her name but she told us she was from Argentina). Thank you!!!

Beautiful and intimate location, perfect for a couple or a double date. One of the best places in the area. If you want to enjoy a glass of wine and some good food in a relaxing environment this is the right place.

Booked at Blackbird on New Years Eve. When we arrived there was one other table, so we expected that the service would be good. Started with cocktails - these took 20 minutes to arrive. unfortunately this set the tone for the evening. We waited around 1hr 20 minutes for our mains before paying for our entree and drinks and leaving. There are much better options available in East Perth for your dining dollar.

Liked: poached pear salad was refreshing and best dish this time. Chips side dish, crispy and just right<br/>Okay: carpaccio. It's probably the thickest I've ever seen. I like parmesan shaved rather than the jar grated type. These had to be ordered separately as it doesn't come standard.<br/>Cheese croquettes: overly salted. Didn't taste like 3 cheese. More like jar grated parmesan. There was no sign of oozy cheese in this dish.<br/>Needs work: beef ribs were too salty and tasteless. Barely touched it.<br/>Mushroom side dish tasted like rehydrated dried mushrooms. Some bits were hard.<br/>Broccolini side dish was edible, but not the freshest.<br/>Service: it was obvious that the wait staff were very new but also trying their best and were always polite. There was only 1 lady in the kitchen working which would have made it challenging to serve even on a quiet evening.

It has been a few years since returning...and tonight was questionable. Has the owners recently changed or something? The quality of food is horrendous.
Just Another Foodie
My girlfriend shouted me dinner at Black Bird in East Perth last night.  Apparently this was in return for all of the meals I've cooked her. She didn't have to, I'd have been happy with a cheese toasty at hers. But I'm really glad she did. It was a fabulous dining experience.    First up, this is a small venue and it is lovely, warm and cosy. Perfect on a freezing winters evening. Secondly, the service was fantastic. Thirdly, the food was amazing.   There were three of us and we shared an entree of prosciutto and spiced pear with salad leaves. This was seriously one of the nicest combinations I've had the pleasure of eating. And if we'd stopped at the starter I'd still have been happy with the dining experience at Black Bird. I'm glad we didn't though. Two of us ordered the beef ribs - slow roasted for 22 hours and served with side of chips and a small salad.  The meat on the  rib - it was one giant sized rib -  was so tender that chewing wasn't actually required.  But there was still that lovely, chewy bit left on the bone to really get  our teeth into. The chips were perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. And they weren't oily. Yay.  The salad leaves were nice and crunchy still which led me to believe they were dressed just before serving with just the right amount of dressing for my liking (I hate salad leaves that are swimming).  My friend ordered the handmade ricotta gnocchi.  She generously let me have a tasted and the gnocchi was delightful.  Lovely and light with a really flavoursome sauce of cauliflower cream.  Roasted cauliflower and broadbeans just added to the overall pleasure of the dish.  For dessert my friends shared the brownies which were beautifully presented. They said they were really good.  I had the espresso panna cotta which was a lovely, light creamy texture. It could have done with a more powerful coffee hit for me. But then, I have  a serious liking for coffee, my standard brew is a triple shot.  All in all we all really enjoyed our experience at Black Bird and look forward to a return visit.   Oh, and as for affordability ... we paid about the same price it would have cost us for an average meal at the pub.   Fantastic value for the money.

Went here on a quite weeknight. Found it a bit Overpriced, service blah and the food ok but in no way special. Over cooked steak, pommes Fritz from McCannes and a side salad of nothing. I feel that they are trying too hard and out of touch with were Perth food is at the moment.

It’s a nice little restaurant with a clam view of a small pond. My husband and I came here for an early dinner during our honeymoon trip and set outdoor for the view.

We came here for date night and birthday celebration and we were thoroughly thrilled how amazing the service and food was. We ordered the chefs selection (6 course) meal and they create dishes around your food allergies/ foods you don't eat. It was very good price for the quality and portions of the food we were served (3 entrees, 2 mains, 1 dessert). Definitely recommend to couples who are looking for somewhere romantic for dinner. Amazing food, beautiful service!

The food was delicious and the service impeccable, very accommodating for a coeliac. The location is also very romantic for a date and not too pricey either.

Unbelievable value!! The 8 course menu is on par with the finest, for half the price. Wonderfully warm service and atmosphere... Don’t tell to many people about this hidden gem of a place. Have been four times now.

We had the 8 course tasting plate, they were delicious and beautifully presented $65/pp. It's nice to have small portions of foods we would not have normally ordered.

30th Anniversary dinner, found by google: "where's a good place for a romantic anniversary dinner" and Blackbird popped up, had decent reviews, so off we went.<br/>Delightful! Secluded, cosy, decor, with a view to the water. Quite unlike anywhere we've been in Perth, reminded me of London for some reason. <br/>The staff were lovely, fab service, great music; (2 songs of my faVe band, The National), and the food was really nice. We had a great anniversary dinner, thanks Blackbird

What a hidden treasure! Beautiful view out over the water, intimate, peaceful...Service... amazing, friendly, comfortable... food, sensational flavour, great choice of dishes, good size portions... good choice of beverages, excellent coffee. The Blackbird team did not disappoint, thank you for a memorable night... a must try Resturant 😊

Definitely a cool place to dine at. Thumbs up for the plating. Service staff was friendly and made my group of friends feel welcome. Will definitely be back!

Customer service was really good, the food was very average to poor including pork belly that was like rubber with no crackle. Not sure what's <br/>going on with the restaurant as the food has always been awesome.
Thekittaysmeow
came fof the mystery cheese special. i think the real mystery is wondering what youre gonna eat when you leave. <br/> it was supposed to be a 4 course meal, however it felt like they gave us one meal to share between the two of us but it still cost us $60 per person.even our wines didnt seem to be standard sized. the food itself was nice but i couldve eaten all of that on my own. so we left feeling annoyed and hungry.
SEB
We were in attendance last week at the mystery four course cheese dinner - underwhelmed to say the least. Left hungry and not wowed at all unfortunately.

Cosy restaurant in East Perth with good service.<br/>Wine menu has a good range<br/>Food was tasty but on the expensive side in regards portion size. <br/><br/>
Food And People
I'm going to have to find an excuse to return to Perth...just to come back here. And next time I will make sure I'm hungry so I can have the degustation. This night I just had the market fish and the Tarte Tatin. It was so pleasant sitting outside by the river and enjoying such a fabulous meal - and I thought the price point was great also.
Little Aussie Epicurean
Friendly service and a cosy atmosphere. These pictures are quite old. I would eat here again but I found the menu to be slightly expensive for the meals.

This quaint little French eatery hidden away in east Perth is a real little gem. First found for EatDronkPerth, I have been back multiple times. It's always too hard to choose from all the delicious dishes, so we always opt for the chefs selection and it never disappoints
A Diner
Experienced the tasting menu as a treat for my husband's birthday. Excellent!<br/>For something special - would highly recommend. Every course offered something different with perfect presentation.<br/>The staff are to be congratulated on their friendliness, the chef to be congratulated on delivering an enjoyable variety of high quality dishes.

Cosy and romantic. A petite French-inspired bistro located in East Perth. I call this my little hidden gem. I like to come here on our date nights for a nice romantic meal. In summer, I recommend sitting outside around 7pm so you can watch the sunset and gaze upon the little pond and adorable ducks. In the winter, get a table inside near a window and order a mulled wine. It's super cosy. <br/><br/>They have a seasonal menu that changes regularly to keep things fresh. If you get there early they give a free appetiser to start things off. Food is always delicious and service is friendly and attentive. We love it.

This place is a hidden gem. Only a small place, but amazing food and such friendly staff. I brought my newborn in a capsule, and they moved tables so they weren't too close to him. Very accomodating. The calamari for entree was amazing and we could not fault any of our meals. We had pork belly, roast chicken and the fish of the day. All very different flavours and all delicious. Highly recommend trying this place!

Took the mrs here one night and what can i say! The scenary is very nice especially for a romantic date. Service and food was quality would recommend the oxtail and the fish!

Been here twice, two years apart, for large group bookings, and I must say this venue would have to be one of the most consistently brilliant restaurants in the state.<br/>Amazing share plates served all evening, catered to a wide variety of tastes, and excellent wine list, friendly and capable staff, and well priced for the extremely high quality of food.<br/>Will keep recommending and will definitely come again soon!
Sayonira
Loved the foods, but most of all... the dessert tasting plate! I've managed to captured everything and reviewed on my YouTube Sayonira Channel titled "Beautiful Evening in East Perth - Blackbird Restaurant".

Firstly the staff are attentive and very good. I did like the look of the meals our table was served but was a little disappointed at the lack of vegetables on my meal of Chicken. Although it was very tasty and presented very well I think a little more vegetable would have been nice. <br/>Our table enjoyed their meals but this was a common comment we had as a group.
TeaganClaire
Brilliant service. I love the relaxed atmosphere of this little venue. We opted for the chefs menu and really loved the experience, good portion sizes & well timed food. The seafood pasta was the best pasta dish I have had in a while. Wine list is spot on.
Big Trev™
Great option for really well prepared high quality food. Have been here many times over the years and it always impeccable. It can get breezy near the door in winter though. Highly recommended.

Based on the generally good reviews 8 of us decided to try Blackbird. THEY MUST HAVE BEEN HAVING A BAD NIGHT.<br/><br/>As we entered the room looked appealing, almost 70's like, like us! Nearly full, with a lovely aroma of mulled wine, which most of us ordered, and it was good.<br/><br/>The wait staff were friendly and efficient and we were all hungry, the menu, although brief looked promising. Oxtail bourguigonne, mashed potato, carrots and brussels looked the business. Four of us ordered this and three ordered the ravioli and one chicken dish.<br/><br/>The meals, except the chicken, which presumably the cook had not finished overcooking, arrived in good time.<br/><br/>It was all down hill from there!<br/><br/>Presented on a large plate first impressions were of a very meagre serving for $36! Given the French naming of the dish, we rightfully expected to see oxtails in a rich gravy. Not so, four or five small segments of oxtail looked overcooked and dry, which indeed they were, as well as tough as a Toyota Hi Lux. The carrots climbed new heights of aldente, mash looked like watery bechamel and the promised brussels consisted of maybe six leaves. Worse still there was no discernable taste to any of this other than the bitter taste of disappointment.<br/><br/>I will not dwell on the other two dishes except to say rubbery pasta and overcooked chicken, appalling!<br/><br/>I shared these observations with one to the waitstaff who promised unconvincingly to speak to the mangler [sic] after service.<br/><br/>In 50 years of restaurant dining this ranks as possibly my worst experience. Cost $392, no entrees and one bottle of wine.<br/><br/>We shuddered at what they may do to desert and coffee so we repaired to the nearby Royal Hostillery where the evening plummeted to new lows, but that's another story.
Margaret Woodall-Bond
Our group of 8 really enjoyed the ambience and the mulled wine on offer. The Blackbird is a cosy space created in a bland modern building. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was a disappointment. The oxtail was an extremely small meal of bones with some tough meat. The chicken dish was just ok. The pasta lacked flavour. We left to find sweets and coffee elsewhere.

Enjoyed everything! The location is really good with a nice and relaxed atmosphere.<br/>All of our dishes where great! We had chicken and ravioli. Both were fantastic.<br/>Staff treated us in a patient and friendly manner.

Had the most amazing night tonight! Had never been here before and was nervous about choosing somewhere new because I wanted to bring my friend for a birthday meal and wanted the perfect place. <br/>This place was beyond perfect! After a detailed description from our knowledgable waitress Sam we chose the $65 dollar per person 8 course menu. The food was amazing! The beef was my favourite but to be fair everything was tasty and perfect (even the seafood which I'm generally very fussy about). There was just the right amount of food where we were full but not overly full. We drank the Stormflower Sauvignon Blanc and it was a lovely crisp wine. All in all I could not fault this place and although the food and ambience was perfect the cherry on top for our evening was our waitress Sam, she was so knowledgable about all the food she never skipped a beat and put the extra effort into the dessert to wish my friend a happy birthday. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely fantastic...Me and my partner ordered the chef's 8 couse tasting menu and it was amazing! Really good service, nice stuff, we were pleasantly surprised.Definitely will be back!

Simply divine. I could not have asked for a more amazing experience in Perth. We had the soft shell crab as our entree with rich baby beetroots, crispy kale and cultured cream. The squid ink pasta was cooked to perfection. The staff were so helpful in helping me and my partner pair the food with the wines available. Wonderful view. Amazing staff. Delicious food. 10/10 would return.
Mark
Candel lit, seductive evening entrance by flowing French music and the occasional French hip hop beat. <br/>Music aside food was delightful, we each took part in chef's 8 course tasting menu, dinning on a lengthy array composed of house specialities like soft shell crab with cultured cream and beetroot to an awesome slow braised ox tail dish.. Finishing it up with a barrel aged campari Negroni and Spanish churros.. <br/>Service was a comforting change, as the waitress explained in detail each dish as it was brought and never our drinks run dry.. Will definitely be back to try their mid week dinner for two.

This is a shoutout to Carmenk47, I'd like to offer my thanks for your review of my restaurant. Yes, your review is super negative but after I realized you don't know the difference between parsnip and daikon it didn't matter much to me anyway! Instead I've taken this time to reflect on the thousands of amazing customers and staff we've had pas though our doors over the last 6 years. Yes, can you believe it, we are 6 years old this month. Happy birthday to us! We've seen first dates, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays. All wonderful people choosing to spend their special days with us. Thank you! <br/>This little neighborhood bistro is not a family business, nor do I have backers or business partners. If we were so rubbish we would have been closed a long time ago. It's just me and my team and I couldn't be more proud of them. Quick shoutout to my staff who went on to be in the Attica 2015 and Sepia 2016 teams to win no 1 in Australia! Also a big-ups to the Ritz Carlton team who trained my head chef, thanks! <br/>I'd like to pass on to you Carmenk47 what I tell my staff all the time. It takes time, love, energy, positivity and commitment to make things grow. Take a moment to get outside and go for a run around our beautiful Claisebrook Lake and be part of something positive. <br/>One love!

Ordered the salad of cucumber, walnut, gin.would not recommend this dish for the price you pay: a plate of mixed leaf salad with few rolls of cucumber and handful of honey dressed walnuts (the standout of that dish).squid ink spaghetti on the other hand, was delightful, would be great if portion size is bigger. Had barramundi, well cooked and flavoursome, just missed the crispy skin. Had the cheese platter to finish off: good sized platter. Lastly, thumbs up for the friendly French staff.

The food here was sensational and the service impeccable. The menu isn't extensive but everything we had was so full of flavour, I don't think you could go wrong with any choice. Definitely a must try if you haven't already!

Tuesday or Wednesday dinner (I can't remember )<br/><br/>Thought we would try this little place as we were passing through east Perth . Really quaint decor great tapas. The food was interesting and tasty. We had the steak tartare . Note you cannot share them as they are like mini ice cream cones. Mussels were good and the prawn dish was my favourite. We had a nice bottle of red to go with it which was very reasonably priced in fact the whole wine list was great. And our waitress gave us some nice recommendations . Only negative was that I was going to have a g&t to start but they charge $16 for a Westwinds Sabre which is way to expensive if it had been the cutlass or the broadside I would have understood. I could have just ordered a different gin but i decided to stay with wine!
Happy To Eat Anyday Anytime Anywhere
We went there tonight and the first thing would be GREAT!! We were warmly greeted by 2 waitresses and they kindly accommodated us to sit outside . They were attentive from start to finish. Beautiful setting. We ordered a couple of salads from the entree menu. While they were nice and fresh for a start, they were standard- I would not say amazing but good and for main we had the fillet steak with potato croquettes and Brussel sprouts. I must admit that it was a decent meal and it tasted good but it was quite expensive- an expensive $120 for a steak dish, 2 salads and 2 drinks. I would have loved to see a greater menu and more french dishes rather than the all-round modern Australian. But the experience was worth it and the service or ambiance could not be faulted- we will be back for sure.
John
Really nice spot for a quiet romantic date in the evening/night. Wonderful ambiance created by the unique music and candle lit tables. The wait staff are excellent, they are professional, friendly, polite and not at all snobbish like some places that won't be named here. Our steak was cooked incorrectly due to an error in the kitchen but this was remedied without and hassle questions or funny looks. We received a few small chocolate truffles as an apology. The only downside was the price for the portion sizes, although steak isn't a great indicator. All in all I would say this is a fantastic spot to take your significant other on a romantic evening, it might be a bit pricey but you're paying for the experience, not just the food and in that department blackbird really delivers.
Williespants
Beautiful location and view, a quiet dining experience along the water. Service could have been a bit more friendly, but it was prompt. Make sure you check what wine you get by the glass, they don't bring the bottle out. Food wise, ordered the Angus steak with mushroom pepper sauce, potato croquettes and vegetables. The steak was done well, not chewy and very tender. The vegetables were cooked just right and seasoned well. Also ordered a serve of the pomme frites - these came out herbed and the accompanying sauce was tasty too. Lastly, the chicken with corn, barley and chorizo. Not what I expected, sliced roast chicken breast on top of a bed of the barley/diced chorizo/corn kernels. The dish was a little too salty, but quite a home-cooked taste to it. Lovely dinner.

I came here through Dimmi with my parents who travelled all the way from Mindarie, luckily we all absolutely loved it! Amazing ambience, amazing pond side setting. Food was delicious. Service was spot on. I would definitely come back and they are in the Dimmi $50 voucher section. Sadly I can't remember all the dishes we had (would have to scroll back through Insta!) but one was the croquettes which my mum loved (I'm not into croquettes) and I had the steak tartare which was huge! Love to see that dish on a menu. My parents aren't really into fancy places and although this place is quite fancy, it's discreet and dimly lit and not ostentatious so they were fine. More than fine. I will be back.

With friends I dined at Blackbird on Friday night. I booked the previous day for 6.30 via Dimmi and had received confirmation.  I was contacted by email the next day to confirm, which I did. When we arrived (10 minutes late as the manager pointed out to me) we were told that we would have to be out by 8.00pm as they had another booking - apparently online bookings had been heavy. This is a reasonably expensive restaurant we were very surprised and somewhat annoyed by this. One would normally expect that if this is the situation one would be given the option prior to arriving of either accepting the booking or making other arrangements, not being informed when one arrives. We would not have accepted the booking under these circumstances.  We did enjoy our entree and main courses which were excellent but were informed we could not have dessert or coffee. The waitress was charming and efficient but we waited for at least 15 minutes for the dessert menu so that was clearly never on the cards. When I complained to the manager he was not particularly apologetic saying (a) we were 10 minutes late (true but we had no idea the table was not ours for the evening)  (b) we had had a nice evening (not really true as we would have had dessert, coffee and chatted for at least another half hour) and (c) he had tried to contact me but there was no evidence on my mobile or email of this. If the problem is with Dimmi it needs to be corrected, if the problem is the restaurant's then at the prices charged it is unsatisfactory.

Delicious. Simple. Unpretentious. Good wine/cocktails. Staff very friendly. Not overpriced. Beautiful setting. Only criticism is that the menu is a bit too concise.

This little gem!!! A peace of Europe in Perth!Wonderful service ,Great food, beautiful wine list and perfect location! We will be back for sure

After much time since our last visit, Blackbird came to mind for date night. It did not disappoint.Tartare was fresh, chicken main nicely seasoned and gnocchi main was tasty. Split two desserts, don't miss it! Service is very attentive with a good wine selection. Cosy even romantic decor.

Fantastic food.<br/>best seafood risotto I've ever had! large prawns, fish chunks and pieces of scallops. croquets were amazing - melt in your mouth. <br/>dessert plate was fantastic. <br/>the gnocchi dish had great flavour - i love the asparagus, mushroom and spinach in it. however i think ours were cut a tad too large - a little too chunky for my liking. <br/>just a tad dark in our corner - found it hard to read the menu. <br/><br/>would definitely come back here again.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Stunning location. Made a booking via Zomato and it was so simple. On arrival the waitress was a little bit uppity about where we would be sitting, even though we had booked over a week before for our party of eight. We were seated outside by the lake which was really lovely. Our waitress was attentive, although a smile would have helped. Waitstaff are crucial to a good dining experience, and unfortunately I found ours a bit sassy and interrupted us a few times, even when my grandfather was trying to make a birthday speech for my grandmother. Awks. The menu is small but a great selection of dishes. Share plates are great idea for groups so we went with a Croquette's Of The Day (prawn), a Crispy Calamari and Fries with Tomato Relish to start. The croquettes were melt in your mouth amazing, and worked beautifully with the garlic mayonnaise. The calamari was nice, nothing too exciting but cooked well. The fries were tasty and hand made, and the relish was delish. For mains I went with the Fish Of The Day, a large piece of moist barramundi with crispy skin. Served with fries and vegetables, it was extremely fresh and delicious. Two people in our party ordered the gnocchi which was very well received. It was fluffy and the flavour was delicious. I also tried the chicken roulade served with sausage and vegetables and it was great. Lovely food and a gorgeous set up!

This place should be busier, but I'm glad it's not. It has a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere away from the busy end of the East Perth river restaurants.<br/><br/>It's hard to find a restaurant that will give you something for free these days as a starter, so the truffle popcorn was a welcomed touch and set the standard of things to come.<br/><br/>The food is a little pricey, but hard to fault. Definitely leave room to indulge in one of the delicious cheeses and tarte tartin at the end of your meal.<br/><br/>Great place to sit and relax on a Sunday avo with some cheese and wine or balmy summer night meal.
Too Munch To Handle
What a beautiful location for this simple yet charming restaurant. We dined on a Wednesday night and there was a very pleasant feel from the staff from the moment we entered. I love the darkened ambience. Soon after being seated we were given the complimentary popcorn coated in truffle oil and chilli. It looked plain but was packed with flavour, and our friendly waiter had no hesitation in bringing us more. We decided to order 4 share plates and 2 mains between 4 people. The share plates were very generous in size, my favourites being the steak tartare and the croquettes. Mains were also delicious and well executed but a little on the smaller side. Finally we were given the most beautifully presented, pre-organised dessert platter for our birthdays. Overall, the staff were wonderful, the menu was small but clearly well thought out and the food above all was delicious. Thank you for an excellent birthday dinner.

Lunch today restored my faith in Blackbird. Wonderful service and the tapas were stunning. A great spot to linger over Sunday lunch. Have always rated this restaurant really highly until a very, very average French dinner promotion some time ago. However, very pleased we gave it another go.
Dough Nut
My new favourite restaurant. What a stunning restaurant. The French food, elegant but relaxed French bistro style, knowledgeable and charming staff member (Adrien?) who looked after us all made tonight a very memorable evening. <br/>And then the was the food - pretty much perfect. Great to see drinks thoughtfully sourced, with sensible prices. <br/>We were replete after one shared starter and a main course each (beef steak / seafood risotto) so will be back to happily work our way through the wine and menu.

Love it here. Always happy to support this small and friendly restaurant as we always leave happy. They do a small menu but keep it interesting and it's going to remain a favourite.<br/>3 years on and still a favourite.<br/>Good service by nice people who know and understand their menu and wines. Delicious food, intimate environment and well located. Great package.<br/>

Oh my goodness, simply divine! <br/><br/>We could not fault any of the dishes we ordered. Started off with the croquettes (you get 8), then ordered the gnocchi and the parpardelle plus the roasted vege salad. Tried the tart tartin and finished off with some cheese. Food came out in a timely manner and we were toasty warm inside the restaurant despite it being so cold and wet outside. <br/><br/>Service was excellent. Staff were very friendly and very patient - in particular when I took a long time on deciding what wine I was going to settle with.<br/><br/>My only gripe is the price they normally charge, but it is Perth after all. (we visited during a 50% off on dimmi deal so the overall price was quite reasonable). <br/><br/>We will definitely be back. Food was just as good as the last time we came, if not better. Well done! <br/><br/>

Blackbird is in a quiet location overlooking a lake not far from Claisebrook Cove - and the view over the lake of the ducks and the passers by makes for a pleasant ambiance. With its European bistro feel and attentive and welcoming wait-staff it seemed to be a great spot for a lazy casual Sunday lunch. When my partner and I dropped in we were surprised that the restaurant was not as well patronised as we may have expected - our experience there just compounded that surprise... perhaps this truly is a well kept local secret? The mains of paella and grilled spatchcock were both excellent - and the wine matching suggestions from our knowledgeable waitress were excellent. As a local boy with a penchant for WA wines, I really appreciated her assistance with the list of European titles and her recommendations were spot on!The dessert share plate for 2 was epic - so much indulgence on just one plate (board) but every element was great. As we finished our meals with a nice fortified, we felt that we were now part of the obviously small local clique who know and appreciate this little neighbourhood gem. I wont say it is really good... because I am not sure I want to share it with others.

Staff were really friendly. It's a Nice and cosy place. Risotto was nice but mussels were not fresh. A bit smelly. Fish of the day was very average. The sauce has no flavor at all. The serve of the fish was a bit too small for the price as well.

Blackbird has a peaceful atmosphere (and we went on a Friday night!). If you seat outside you sit directly across the lake which makes your view. The area is quiet which is really nice, the restaurant itself is small in size but you are not crammed into it or squishing up next to neighbouring tables.. It makes for an intimate experience, lovely when you are on a night out with your partner. It was our first time dining at Blackbird, we booked a few days advanced and managed to get one of the last tables for Friday night, because of this we were dining early with the table booked at 6.30pm. It may be  good idea to book a few days ahead if you want to eat here during the weekend! Being 6.30, we were one of the first to arrive. The staff were very welcoming, all four of the wait staff greeted us as we passed them on the way to the table. We had the same waiter for the remaining of the night. Whilst browsing the menu, you are given popcorn to snack on. This is really different and at first seemed a little odd that you receive popcorn of all things. But, this is no ordinary popcorn! Infused with parmesan cheese and chilli, it has a sharp zing and definitely excites the taste buds. We love having multiple things and flavours to eat, naturally we chose three of the 'share plates' and then a main each (we hadn't planned on dessert but it happened in the end!) We've been to Blackbird twice in the past couple of weeks. The food was delicious, the service was great and the restaurant is in a lovely location on Claisebrook inlet. The restaurant has an intimate, cosy atmosphere. While we were there, we saw an advertisement for "Negroni Week" and we booked a table for us to go with some friends. They were raising funds for Youth Focus, a very worthy cause. The dinner was amazing value at $55 per head for three courses which included three negroni cocktails. The serves were quite small but ample and the food was delicious. We'll definitely go again next year for this week.<br/><br/>This restaurant is absolutely worth a visit!

This restaurant overlooks Claisebrook Lake. The location is quiet, but not isolated as there is plenty to see from the ducks swimming to walkers, joggers and cars trying to get home.<br/><br/>The service is friendly and the food is ok. If you get there between 05:00 – 06:00 daily, they offer free tapas with every drink purchased.

Our favourite place!. My boyfriend have been going to Blackbird since 2013 and it has always been amazing.<br/>Whether its the beautiful decor paired with candles and dim lighting to the delicious food and lovely wait staff.<br/>Yes its a little pricey but I definitely think its worth it!<br/>We come here a couple times a year for special occasions and it is by far our special place.

A favourite restaurant. Blackbird is a small restaurant on the Claisebrook Lake that serves delicious food. The menu is small but well chosen with share plates as well as mains. I always enjoy the fish dishes while my companion enjoys the steak ones. It is classy and the service is excellent. To sit outside, lakeside, on a balmy Autumn evening sharing a meal is one of the joys of living in East Perth where you can walk to your favourite restaurants.

Blackbird is a quaint little place tucked away in the corner nook of Claisebrook Cove facing out onto the water. Their focus is on serving traditional rustic European dishes and they have an interesting wine list with a collection of both local and International wines.

Never fails to dissapoint me !. I've been to this place quiet a few times now and i am so amazed how the service is and how great the food taste! Give this place a 8/10 ! Highly recommend
Philip
Not worth it at all! Very pricy, but the flavor is quite plain, nothing worth to mention here. The portion is very tiny maybe two mains are just enough for one adult. Worse than some fast food restaurant.

Really crap. Took my wife out for a surprise dinner and she loved the view. So we got a bottle of water which I thought was complimentary and to my disgust they charged us $8! So we then ordered crisps which were stale wet soggy potatoe chips then the salad came out which was just lettuce and nothing else the two cocktails had no alcohol in them we walked away with a $65 bill for nothing. Would never go back and would never recommend for anyone else <br/>Totally guttered!!

A new favourite for us.. We were really pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Lovely ambience next to the water. Knowledgable, friendly and efficient staff who really know the wine and the chef is very talented. We had scallops and croquettes to start with. Both were delicious but the scallops were a stand out for me. Even better was the red empower on a purée cauliflower with toasted almonds for main. I wanted to lick the plate it was so good. Don't worry. I refrained! Do yourselves a favour and try this place. We will certainly go back.

Average. Food was very salty. Been here a few times and came back for a birthday. Meals were ok, tried to order an Irish coffee to be told they don't have a coffee machine. ...really. ........

Let down. We love this cosy little restaurant but after visiting there again last night felt let down this time by the food presented.<br/>We both enjoyed our beautifully cooked Fish even tho it was a little on the small size for price, but the overcooked limp beans and flavourless dressing that accompanied it was disappointing.<br/>Can not give enough Cudos to our delightful Waitress. (I think Sassy? was her name)<br/>She was a full bottle on every question we "threw" at her and was smiling helpful and articulate in every way. <br/>Have always had fantastic Wait Staff in the past and she only added to them. <br/>We will be returning but would love to see a few more choices on the Menu.

Below average. I took my wife out for dinner the view was great. But disappointed with the $8 bottle of water! The cocktail had no alcohol the crisps were nothing more than stale soggy potatoe chips the salad was just lettuce<br/>I would never go back or recommend to anyone

A Real Surprise. I had heard good things about this place, and to my surprise Blackbird actually exceeded my expectations. Had lunch on Sunday and a good effort it was to! We had a fair few Dimmi points so booked a voucher. The restaurant is laid out café style, and we got a table inside. The head waiter was engaging, friendly and knowledgeable and actually added great value to the overall dining experience. He kept a close eye on our table and ensured we had our wine, water and food at just the right time. Very well done. We ordered scallops and terrene for entrées. Both were large serves, and well cooked indeed. Matched wines by the glass were also very good. Mains were fish of the day, being barramundi and a blue veal (yeah blue). The veal was perfectly cooked which is not easy for blue as blue tends to be served cold. The fish was, to be frank, the best barramundi I have eaten in a long time, and I had barramundi at The Heritage the day before. Cheese board for desert with some delicious 1927 Pedro sticky topped off a terrific day. The patrons on the day were slightly biased with 25 woman and just 3 of us blokes. I thought it was woman's day! Overall, this is well worth the effort of visiting.

Great service. Back in December I ate here in a group of 10. We had the Table d'Hote menu with the added drinks package, we all really enjoyed our meal and found it a really sociable way to eat, with everyone sharing (and discussing) the food. The food was all delicious, the drinks readily available and the atmosphere was great, with a lovely setting by the water. From the day I booked the staff were friendly and accommodating, on the night the duty manager (I think her name was Rebecca) went out of her way to make our evening special. Thanks to all of the staff that contributed to the evening, we will definitely be back!

Loved it.. Fantastic service. Great setting. Really enjoyed the food and a good selection of wine. The dessert was just Yum. Will definitely go back.

Tres Jolie. Very enjoyable dinner. I had the barramundi special, which was superb, and the tarte aux peche, which was also delicious. Attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere made for a superb evening - merciful becoup! !

Awesome! Every detail was taken care of by the amazing staff members. They managed to get us an outside table for our birthday dinner... Food, wine, service and ambiance won the day. Will definitely go back soon

Had dinner here tonight. Food was delicious and service was excellent. It was our second visit and will definitely be back again.

Great Expectations... Not quite met.. Awesome spot on the cove, lovely attentive service but very limited menu with nothing really jumping out.... Apart from the Assiette Dessert plate.... Sensational.

I didn't like or dislike it. We booked a table for three Friday 6pm. Table wasn't ready and then one menu taken off us as they didn't have enough for other diners. We shared barramundi croquettes and squid. Croquettes tasted like tin salmon and squid chewy. I then had the gnocchi which was nice but strange having broccoli and zucchini in it. Not much choice for mains. Staff friendly but I doubt I'll ever go back

Pretty good.. Went here for my anniversary with my boyfriend a while ago now, but it had a really relaxed, romantic atmosphere. The food was good, and the owner (I think it was the owner) came out to check how our meal was and everything which was cool. We arrived just after 5pm when they opened, so it wasn't very busy when we were there. It was a really nice evening, and I would definitely recommend it to couples and the like.

Excellent food and service. Recently we held a small wedding dinner at blackbirds. From the moment that I contacted the restaurant They were very efficient and displayed excellent customer service. Sonya, the manager, was a god send and she helped me to organise everything stress free and I didnt need to worry about a thing.<br/>On the night the food was amazing and several of our guests agreed- by the the time we finished entree most of us were full. The flavours were exquisite and the plates were presented beautifully. My favourites are the scallops and the dessert platter - little samples of different sweets. The wine list was also extensive with plenty of international choices. <br/>I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others and we will certainly be going back.

Excellent little hidden gem. Went for the first time last night and was very impressed. Service was impeccable. Great ambiance and the food is of excellent quality. Good choice of wines as well.

Amazing amazing amazing. We ate here for my partners birthday. everything about the evening was faultless. the staff were knowledgeable and attentive and the food was to die for. we could not say one negative thing about anything. highly recommended!!!

Happy and Cheerful. Four of us went there for dinner on Thursday night on a Scoopon voucher. I had emailed for a reservation and got a friendly prompt reply. The food was nice, not spectacular until it came to the dessert - the assiette (tasting plate) was absolutely beautiful. What made the night was the delightful staff member from New Caledonia. What an asset she is, sorry I didn't get her name. As we had limited choice with the Scoopon deal, we will go back to see what the full menu is like.

MSG Added & Way Too Salty. Have been to this place a few times, and enjoyed the food. <br/>A few weeks ago when we went on a Sunday for a family lunch, I ordered the off the menu vegan dish. The dish came out with lots of visible salt flakes all over it, and the others on the table also had the same, so way too salty for all us, as there was plenty of salt in the dish, plus salt flakes all over. We did mention this when paying, and the lady just said that we should have said something, and they would've made us another. But we waited about 45 mins for our meals and were not prepared to wait another 45 mins. <br/>On Monday morning when I woke up, I woke up really dehydrated, and my skin was really dry all over. I got a major headache that got worse as the day went on, and I felt sick. This was due to the MSG added, which I can safely say was a lot then, and in combination of a lot of salt really didn't work well for me. <br/>I felt that they didn't really want to deal with the problem, even though it wasn't just me, but also the other dishes.

Brilliant food and service. Went there Saturday night and food and service was amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Very disappointing. I expected to really like this place. Very disappointed when I dined last night with a group. Paella was well, passe. Service while attentive, but certain courtesies (eg would you like mains to come out at the same time as entrees for those who didn't order entrees) would have been good. So, we waited 1 1/2 hours for mains. Wines good, but overpriced. I won't recommend, sadly.

Lovely atmosphere and service, good prices too!. We had great service from the get-go. Lovely lady who took our booking for 8, promised us a window seat and called on the morning to confirm the booking. <br/><br/>We ordered Seared scallops with potato puree and bacon - perfectly cooked and it just went so well with everything on the plate! Then came the 'blackbird arancini' - full of flavour, crispy (but tender) calamari with kale slaw - perfect combo, hand cut chips with tomato relish - wish the chips were crunchier but relish was a delight!, sweet potato crisp - is the best conversation starter and so more-ish, veal with porcini cream was really exceptional and cooked perfectly and finally the fish of the day (snapper) which was slightly overcooked but taste-wise, was great with thick hollandaise sauce. We had the dessert "plate" which was an assortment of citrus marshmallow (my favourite), chocolate mouse (ok/so-so), semifreddo (a bit too sweet), white chocolate truffle (so-so) and something else I can't quite recall anymore (tasted like a semolina/polenta/almond meal sort of cake). <br/><br/>Overall the food was really good and it all came out in a timely pace even though restaurant was quite full that day. I would come back here many times and their veal main , seared scallop and sweet potato crisp still make me salivate. The Front of House are great too, from start to finish. <br/><br/>Prices are very reasonable for the quality we had. Seriously yummy.

A Perfect Dinner. My husband and I are regular diners in the East Perth area and after reading a previous review about Blackbird may I suggest the writer eat a little less. Blackbird is never disappointing both in the flavour or amount of food served. Recently my husband ate the pork belly and found it very satisfying both in flavour and quantity and I thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian stack. The service was good and the atmosphere perfect to celebrate an anniversary. Recommended wine was excellent. A perfect night.

50 percent off deal. Dined last night, and ordered ckichen and pork belly and cheese platter.<br/>The pork belly was the smallest main serve I have encountered in my extensive dining experience. It was all salad, and the total amount of pork belly would easily fit on a tablespoon. The chicken was about the size of half of one chicken breast.<br/>Ordered cheese platter, again small.<br/>With 50 percent off the cost of the food, they seemed to have reduced the serving sizes 75 percent on this occassion

Absolutely Fabulous!. This restaurant excels in all areas. The food and service is excellent and the atmosphere is just perfect. Highly recommended.
MC1105
Small food portions. We went their for tapas the other night using our 50% off, and although the food and service was good, the food portions were ridiculously small for the price you paid. Nearly $20 for no joke three bits of octopus, to share between four, just not good enough. And there were no meat dishes as part of tapas menu, which is not so much a winner with the guys.<br/>Good, but probably wouldn't go back

Good food. Dinner at Blackbird, east perth on the canal. Delish, delight, beautiful food that was tasty, and enough, not over complicated, and accompanied by a lovely talented musician/singer who gave a provincial feel without being overbearing. Recommended!!<br/>The apple punch was also a delight of flavour and colour.

Valentines Dinner. Gorgeous place tucked away from the city, food was tasty and cooked well. The sweet potato chips were tasty, and the pork belly was tender. Service was great. Would definitely reccomend.

Great service. We went for dinner midweek and this restaurant is lovely - very cosy and great setting down by the river - the service was excellent and the food was delicious - great seasoning and flavours - would say its a bit pricey for what we had but had a voucher - certainly great for a romantic meal or a treat and rare to get the level of service we received.

Lovely little place for a vino or 3 after work, the free tapas between 5-6 during the week are lovely and quite substantial!! Really good wine selection & great friendly service! <br/>Have not had dinner here yet but the menu looks delicious :)

The food here was amazing!! There was excellent service, Acosta atmosphere and a nice view. Will definitely come back here again.

Delightful. Stopped by after sussing out options on the East Perth waterside strip. Blackbird appealed as I was after something quiet. Fantastic service, attentive but unobtrusive. Menu choices covered all the options but as I was after something light opted for the sautéed mushroom and polenta. What a delight. Packed with flavour with no one singular flavour taking over from another. The day was gorgeous, the view of the duck pond appealing and with the other diners and fantastic background music - there was quite a laid back but quality vibe. Loved it.

We enjoyed a very good dinner last night. The kitchen performance was absolutely flawless, the seasoning spot on, the produce top notch. Service attentive, knowledgeable and smiling. The cuisine is classic, the portions generous and the presentation beautiful. What more can you ask for! Oh, the steaks came rare for all of us by default. Perfectly rare I must say, but if that's not for you, let the chef know. We will come back for another function. Byo Tuesadays.

Awesome service, awesome food. I will definitely be back when we visit perth next.

It's is such a beautiful quaint restaurant in beautiful east Perth. The service was wonderful and the food was magnificent. The pear salad with blue cheese was delicious and light as were the scallops. My husband ordered the beef which was melt in your mouth tender. <br/>We will definitely be coming back.

Lovely Staff/Excellent Coffee. Often stop by Blackbird for coffee on epic weekend rides around Claisebrook Cove and I can't say enough about this place. Its very relaxing to sit outside and watch the swans and enjoy the sunshine. Daytime waitress Sonja is lovely and always has a bright smile on her face, which goes a long way in a city notorious for terrible service. Blackbird is a great spot to catch up on some reading and enjoy cup after cup of excellent coffee on a quiet Sunday evening. Evening waitress Jess makes the best latte I've had recently and is a sweetheart as well. Whoever does the hiring at Blackbird, you're doing a great job! Well done guys :-)

Amazing. The food was amazing, there was nothing bad about the restaurant.

Had a delightful mid week lunch, 8 people, all very happy, great service and good food. Will be back.

Venue was nicely decorated, staff were friendly but the food was so average borderline sub standard considering the price. Many people seem to give good food review, maybe it was a different chef cooking the night we went. The plate du jour was so small for $15 pp. the fish aranchini was super fishy. Didn't like it. The rest were just ok. The sirloin was so tough, it was very hard to chew. The sauce was too salty. Pork belly salad was super oily & also too salty. The rosemary salt chips was nice, but again a bit too salty. A glass of wine starts at $10 & only one type cost $10. The next one up was $14 per glass. I don't think we'll go back there or recommend it to our friends. It was expensive & the food just didn't cut it. With urbanspoon 50% discount, the bill came up to $65. Even with this discount, we won't go back again.

Disappointed. I booked this restaurant through Dimmi, but when my family and I arrived we were informed that the special did not apply to this particular night. We had been looking forward to a lovely meal and were left quite disappointed with the outcome. And to make matters worse the young woman who I presume was the manager of the restaurant had quite an attitude problem. We ended up finding a lovely restaurant called the Royal which was only two doors down from the Blackbird where we had a delicious meal and the service was fantastic.

Yumm & Great Service. Only discovered because of Urbanspoon deal. Will go back often! Had the fish of the day entree - was still moist and warm, not over/under cooked and dry like many other places. Also had the steak,,,truly melt in your mouth. Must be organic, as I could taste the goodness. Service was great, definitely aided by the small venue. Water was always re-filled, wine poured for me. Service was soo good, I felt like I was in the US, not Perth.

Walked passed this pretty bistro with a view and got sucked in by the Oktoberfest feast special that they have on! So ordered the crispy pork belly with german potato salad and sauerkraut and my friend ordered the sea perch fillets with green beans and hollandaise. Was amazing! Love it wen a place delivers on flavour and technique. The pork was a dream, and with the fish i thought it was gona be dry as there was only a dollop of hollandaise - but it was nice and moist!<br/>We even shared a bottle of german weihenstephaner! Cant wait to come back for a serious feed!
Laura
There was big piece of a hickory wood chip lodged in my first bite of ravioli, which could have also done with another 30 seconds of cooking. Steak (ordered medium) came out well done and as tough as leather. Will not be coming back.
2 Grumpy Forks
Lovely intimate setting by the Claisebrook Cove although perhaps not as ‘bright’ as the Partisan and in a quieter spot the Blackbird has a warm ‘bistro’ feel. The food was excellent. We shared the scallops with bacon to start with a serving of bread. The only downside was the ‘paris butter’ which had way too much garlic for our liking.<br/><br/>For mains the Rib eye fillet steak was melt in the mouth good and cooked to order and the Schupfnudel (German type fried gnocchi) was a real delight. For dessert we shared a chocolate pudding which was served with a rich coffee ice cream. The chocolate pudding was divine. Equally, if coffee ice cream is your thing, that too was very nice but together.... not so sure they were right together on the same plate.<br/><br/>Service was good. In terms of value for money – definitely ticked the box.<br/>Small menu choice – 3 or 4 selections for each course however there was something to suit everyone. <br/><br/>Overall it was a lovely experience and certainly one recommended to others.

Lovely little restaurant by the water in Claisebrook. Inside is very cosy and intimate. Waiting staff were very attentative and friendly. We had a plat du jour for a starter (one to share between two was enough) which was a lovely selection of items and for mains we had lamb shank and schupfnudeln (vegetarian dumpling). Everything was delicious and we cleared our plates. Will definitely be returning soon.

Recommend. Came here using an Urbanspoon 50% off voucher and thought it was lovely. Staff were attentive, knowledgeable and friendly (a bit hard to find in Perth!). Food was delicious, slightly smaller servings, but we left feeling comfortably full, rather than stuffed. It is a bit pricier than I would normally go for, but with the voucher worked out great.

Mistake. Made the mistake of bringing a bottle of nice pinot noir under the impression they were BYO with $9 corkage(!). Informed only BYO on Tuesdays, asked nicely since it was a Thursday and just the two of us that we could have it anyway. Waitress brought over manager who brought up the fact we were dining under a 50% discount and implied had that not been the case we could have had our wine, she even kindly let us choose if we'd rather have our wine or keep the discount. Please. Pretty bad start to the evening that could have been saved my decent food, not the case. Entrees overpriced for what you get not to mention tasteless, fish croquettes were unbelievably bland. Partner had the lamb shank special which he seemed to enjoy though I think he may have been just starving at this point. I had fish of the day. The serving size was incredibly generous however the fish itself was overcooked, dry and again lacked any seasoning. I would have been incredibly upset if I had paid full price. What a waste. Left immediately, will not return. But give it a go, other people seemed to be enjoying themselves

Took advantage of the 50% offer and enjoyed a nice meal, although bit pricey, especially the starters. We enjoyed the flavours and textures of the beef carpaccio and the squid salad but not <br/>quite $19 worth (each).<br/>The beef fillet was tender and the jus rich, the chicken confit Maryland was delicious to the point of being tempted to pick up the bone(!), not normally a couscous fan,but was perfect combination. Had the applecake which was served with strawberries and cream (not much of the cassis jelly) for dessert which was a nice and not too heavy finish along with a frangelico on ice. No coffee offered, not sure if was on menu actually. Nice location made it a pleasant night out.

A little bit fancy. As a regular bistro and cafe style eatery person, this was a fair step up from my usual choices, as I have not been to a restaurant of this sort of calibre for quite some time. I am glad I decided to take up the Urbanspoon 50% off offer and give European style food a try. The venue, ambience (rather romantic for my partner and I, and not too noisy even though fully booked) and service are all impressive, and whilst we were not given a very extensive menu, what was on offer was quite varied. I get the impression that the wine list is a point of pride, but on this occaision opted for spirits as I am by no means a wine buff. Prices seem reasonable without the discount, as long as you take into account that these are not bistro or cafe style serving sizes, and therefore you will likely need to order from all 3 course options. Our starter was a simple warm baguette each with "beurre de paris" (garlic butter to serve yourself), which was nice, but nothing special. I was impressed when the waitperson took the time to explain some of the menu options unprompted, as I had no idea what Schupfnudel (pan fried potato gnocchi) was and on having this explained I then chose this as my main. It was a good choice. Well presented, with subtle flavours that meld together well and a lovely texture to the gnocchi. My partner chose the beef medallions, which are served rare, and whilst tasty were a little bit chewy. This meal as an entirety was very nice though. On the side we shared a serving of the "frites" (actually wedges style but not cooked to crispy), which came with a divine dipping sauce. As the mains were of a good size, but not ridiculously filling, we ordered dessert. My partner had the apple cake (which he said was nice, if not lacking something "extra") and I chose the chocolate pudding. The pudding in itself was lovely, but the truly amazing homemade coffee icecream on the side was what made this option a stand out for me, I could have eaten much, much more of that icecream! Overall this was a very enjoyable mid-week night out for us, and we will consider returning when we next feel like something a little bit fancy.

Lovely venue, worth a visit. I really liked the venue, and the very friendly staff. Good wine list I think (not that I know anything about wine). <br/><br/>Food presentation was super lovely, but I didn't think the flavours always matched the presentation: the apple cake was pretty but I couldn't taste apple, and my cauliflour soup was sharp and oily (truffle oil - posh, but still oily) and the pumpkin sat in the bottom as a textural surprise that didn't seem right. <br/><br/>My stumpfnudel was yummy (stretched, fried gnochi) and my boyfriend enjoyed his plat de jour starter and beef fillet.
Crabcancer
Good food. Ok, thanks to Urbanspoon, we made a booking for Blackbird some time back.<br/><br/>Soon we rocked up on a cold and wet July day. 2 orders of steak medallions, 1 chicken confit, 1 vegetarian dish (Unfortunately I cannot even being to spell the dish, it's German). Entrees were scallops and beef.<br/><br/>The scallops were nicely seared in a bacon and celery sauce which did not overpower the taste or smell at all. The beef was similar to beef tataki. Nice and moist.<br/><br/>I had the beef medallions. Grilled to my liking. Sugar snap peas were nice, pomme frites were different from what you usually get. Chicken confit don't look too bad. I learn that cous cous also comes in ball shape and not the usual grain shape. Interesting.<br/><br/>All in all, the food was not too bad. Service was prompt and table was cleared between entrees and mains.<br/><br/>Would I go back? Hmm, that would be a bit of a conundrum. While I liked the food, it was not enticing enough that I would definitely revisit it. However, if the place was suggested for a dinner, I would not turn it down as well.
CamSaya
Romantic setting, great service - staff are attentive and enthusiastic. I had chicken confit as the waitress recommended, it's a decent size and amazingly tasty but tends to feel a little oily in the end. My partner had beef medallions which was pretty good. We recommend grabbing a side salad! Choose the choc pudding for dessert! Overall a great place to eat but not the cheapest :-)

Blah. Food isn't great and they overcharged on the bill. Not worth the effort.

Enjoyed it immensely!. Came here for dinner the other night and really enjoyed the whole experience. Attentive waitstaff - plates constantly being cleared, table being cleaned between courses, water constantly topped up. Genuinely warm friendly service. The lady who served us was happy to explain the different dishes to us and made it a personal experience. Ambience is really lovely, a cosy romantic setting. Food was great with well-sized portions. Only drawback was the wait for the food to come out. Overall a memorable experience - will be back!

Went here on Wednesday evening dinner w a 50% off voucher. The food came out hot and had great timing. The trio taste plate was so yummy. Then our mains came out on time as well and the beef was spot on. I had the seafood chowder. It was good and a mate had the pasta. All were good and tasted great. We couldn't fault the place. Te waitress knew all her stuff. The dessert was extra rich and tasty. Had the choc truffles, affogatto. Superb. The end price was abit steep but we did have drinks and 5 mains, 3 desserts and 3 entrees. W 50% off it was about $180.

Ho hum and too $$$. Food was nice but nothing amazing, no BYO and the wine list is very pricey, an okay experience but I wouldn't return.

Entrees we had were lovely, beef main was chewy and rather lackluster. Food and drinks menus are both pretty limited. Only one Sav Blanc on the menu and it had run out. And no BYO. Service was pretty good.

Especially after the issues with Nahm Thai a few days ago, Blackbird was a welcome change and a breath of fresh air. I informed the restaurant of my food allergies and they emailed me the menu and offered to make the meal from scratch without the usual allergens. On the day the lovely waitress mentioned that if I changed my mind they would be happy to cook me a new dish without onion etc. Well we had a lovely ole time munching on a few entrees (the grilled nectarines were the standout dish and they tasted like the last warm golden rays of summer; the chicken liver pate was a bit too vinegary and metallic for most of the table's tastes and the squid was very moreish). My main of the beef fillet was delicious with a real smokey flavour, the mushroom pappardelle was rich and creamy without being sickly and the fish of the day (crispy barramundi on a seafood chowder was pronounced very tasty but a bit watery. The serve of barramundi was generous and well cooked. Desserts did not disappoint and the orange and almond cake was fantastic, especially with the pourable dark chocolate sauce. Coffees were very good too and it was a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday lunchtime. The standout was the service - one waitress making multiple tables feel special and relaxed whilst still noticing things (like bringing over extra bread for the pate without being asked and filling up our water glasses all afternoon) and making our experience extremely satisfying. Overall the food is above average to excellent fare and certainly beats the nearby Royal for flavour and value, but the service and care vaults this little cafe to star status. Thanks for making our family lunch a real tweet!

Superb Service. We ate at Blackbird for the first time last night, a Sunday evening. The place was reasonably full but the ambience was still great - we didn't need to shout to hear each other. The food was good, especially the prawn croquettes which are worth a second visit alone! The beef fillets for main were unfortunately quite chewy but everything else made up for it. Service alone was one of the best we have ever experienced and we left a decent tip because it made for such a great night. We've already recommended this place to friends - perfect for a romantic night for two!

Okay, but nothing special.. There's nothing 'wrong' with Blackbird. The service, food and ambience/location are all okay, but I can't find a reason to go back. It's pricey, so they're up against a bit of competition from quality places that I'd rather return to. It's a shame that although there's nothing wrong with Blackbird, there's just nothing special - no point of difference that makes you like it enough to return.

Really nice food and atmosphere. We went there on Sunday night. The place was busy, the service was good. The menu is small but it seems like the change it every season. I actually like smaller menus, so not really bother about it. We had the oxtail risotto, which was fantastic!, and the beef with the most amazing smoked mushrooms. The leche frita for dessert was another highlight. A bit on the pricy side but worth it.

Loved it. Great place, great service, food was fantastic and the staff were very accommodating for us gluten free people. I would definitely come back. Great atmosphere on a warm evening. GREAT!

Just had Sunday lunch.... What a great find. A small restaurant but with very good, honest, unpretentious food. We tried Oxtail Risotto - beautifully cooked and wonderfully flavoured: Pappardelle mushrooms with pasta in a light cream sauce - not overly creamy and the mushrooms were definitely the 'star' of the dish: and a seafood chowder - prawn, mussels, clams, blue emperor, octopus... tasted like it had just all been caught and served fresh from the sea. You have to try the chocolate, orange and mint icecream - all in one - with chocolate and mint at the front and the orange coming along afterwards - just gorgeous!! Staff friendly and attentive - the young lady who waited on our table knew everything about each dish on the menu and had obviously tried them herself (wish all restaurants did this). Glad we found this little gem on the lake in East Perth - we'll visit again....soon I imagine!!

Love this place!!! Great quality, delicate flavours and perfect portion sizes. The intimate setting and friendly wait staff are beautiful. A definite favourite :-)

Black bird is a alright restaurant, yes the first looks were quite dull but the staff were very nice. We ordered the chicken liver, risotto, linguine, the ratitowe, the salad, cake and the surprise twist of a ice cream. The total was a overpriced 185. The food was normal the average meal that you could find in any Australian house. However our mains took a astounding 1 hour and 15 minutes of wait, during which I twice almost fell a asleep. I was with my family to be noted a brother mother and father. After we finished mains we ordered desert the good looking cake and the yummy mango ice cream. Half way throughout the ice cream that my brother eating, he found a piece of plastic. Ok 1 piece of plastic got him a bit sad but he continued. 2 minutes later he found a 2nd and 3rd piece in his MOUTH!! He almost swallowed the piece of plastic. Luckily after we left we looked at the receipt and we had gotten the 10$ off the ice cream. Although happy we a got a full refund, we now will always check our food incase another incident like this ever occurs. Although not a bad restaurant, there are ways to make it better. First of all to add more items to the menu. Secondly to check their food before serving it and lastly to brighten up the restaurant with lights IT FELT SO DULL.

A Hidden Gem. This is fast becoming one of my favourite restaurants. It is tucked away in a gorgeous location and it is quiet with unobtrusive, efficient service and best of all, has fabulous food. The menu isn't extensive but even as a fussy eater I have found a couple of choices, each time I have been there. Love the desserts! I look forward to returning again soon.

Beautiful everything! Really enjoyed our night at blackbird. Service was a little slow at times, although didn't matter as we were enjoying sitting outside over looking the lake. Food was outstanding, portion size was big enough. Must try- Banana chocolate cannoli. Will definitely be going back again for another special occasion!

Top Restaurant. Dined here on 28th February with my daughter. Service was best I've experienced anywhere in Perth, the two girls who looked after us were superb. The food was beautifully presented and of a really high standard. Setting by a lake is delightful. Will certainly be visiting Blackbird again.

Went for valentines day. Excellent service as usual for blackbird. Staff that care is a rarity! The place itself is so cute and intimate. Awesome date night venue. Food was great and we were brought a complimentary canapé with our drinks which was amazing. All in all a great night and when paying we were asked to pick a "heart" from a vase each with a little freebie like dessert and coffee next time. Can't rate It highly enough. Perth, take note.
Eatingismyhobby
Pleasant but not amazing.. Went here as a party of 6. The decor was so intimate and cosy, it was gorgeous. We had a table outside, and once it got chilly we were given blankets, which i thought was a nice touch. The service was excellent. The menu was disappointingly restrictive, but i understand in a small establishment the need to keep things concise. The food was good, for some reason not as good as i had expected it to be from all the rave reviews I had read. Other than that, a pleasant evening out. Probably won't go back here without checking the menu first to make sure something I really want is on it.
Rebecca
JUST WOW. How have I not come across this place before? Waitresses were amazing, menu was small but adorably delicious. Had the slow cooked pork cheeks for an entree, yum. Followed by the duck Ragu. Great spot, friends and I will be back for sure!!

Love this little gem! Wandered down with the hubby last night for an impromptu dinner. Cute setting, little menu, very romantic. Loved the candlelit tables and the staff knew heaps about the menu. Had the duck pasta , so yummy and hubby had a beef dish with spinach which was also good, I barely got a taste. Banana canoli was delicious. Great value neighborhood restaurant.
Mr. Paw
Had the parpadelle, was very normal and nothing special about it. Service was great at the start. BUT.. As soon as I discovered a wish bone from the duck and told the waitress about it, she got defensive and tried to explain that shredded duck would sometimes have bones. Not even an apology! Really shocked at her response.. And for the price they are charging (paid full price by the way), this is not acceptable. Picture as proof!

Small & intimate ... a Hidden Gem!. Friendly staff, great location, extensive wine list and a small menu where each dish is done to perfection. Those people complaining about the limited selections perhaps don't get what a small menu is all about!<br/><br/>This is the perfect place for a quiet meal with beautiful food & a lovely view. Experience it for yourself!

After all the good reviews I checked to make sure this was at the same address.<br/><br/>We were not offered the menu others have reviewed or is shown on their web page. The menu was extremely limited.<br/><br/>No sirloin, beef cheeks, beef fillet, duck, pork, lamb, chips ...<br/><br/>We had mussels for entree. Many were unopened and those that did were very small.<br/><br/>We had a seafood bisque for mains that was ok but unsubstantial.<br/><br/>The staff were very keen on selling bread rolls, which at $3 per small roll is probably understandable.<br/><br/>Very disappointed in the menu and lack of selection.<br/><br/>This is the first time I can remember stopping for something to eat on the way home.<br/><br/>At nearly $55ph this was an extremely disappointing meal. I also had an upset stomach which I can only attribute to the mussels.<br/><br/>The venue is nice and the staff efficient.<br/><br/>We may have simply had a bad night but wont be returning to find out.

Delightful surprise. Contrary to the negative reviews about Blackbird, I was delightfully surprised at the winning combination of good food, great service and a charming atmosphere. The staff were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. The food was tasty, original and well priced - especially in a city that universally appears to charge at least 10-20% more for food than the equivalent in the east coast capitals!<br/><br/>Well done Blackbird, I'll be back next time I'm in Perth!

Great location - above average. Love the way the restaurant is decorated and has a really nice ambience. like other reviewers, agree is a perfect place for a date.<br/>visited Blackbird on a Friday night with another couple. the food was tasty, i had the lamb and my HB had the beef. found the food to be a bit 'wholesome' for the 'type of venue, but that suits me.<br/>service was pleasant. Before ordering, we did ask for a break between the entree and main meal, however the mains came out very soon after we had finished the entree. upon mentioning this to the waitress - the response was - 'oh well the chef has already cooked the mains'. not too much of negative, however it meant we finished dinner and left the restaurant sooner that we would have liked, and the restaurant probably missed out on a round of drinks that we would have had, if the evening had of stretched out a little longer, as we had requested.<br/>likely we will return, as would like to enjoy sitting outside on a warm summers night. :o)

What happened?. My partner and I were big fans of this gorgeous little restaurant...until last Friday night. We hav previously enjoyed faultless service, exceptional food quality and a small but enjoyable wine list. Unfortunately last Friday's 'date night' turned into a dud night. The service was okay, the waiters seemed a tad inexperienced, we had the choice of sitting at a squishy table inside between the staircase or another couple or outside. We chose outside despite being a cool night and wondered why the heat lamp was never turned on or our table candle lit. The food was particularly poor. My partner had the lamb which was chewy and I had the beef eye fillet which was tough for its cut and served on mash that honestly, tasted like Deb instant mash (despite the menu saying it was served with puree parsnip and 'bourbon carrots' that were poorly presented and lacked any quality. I don't know if they're cutting costs or lost their chef but something needs to happen to bring it back to its original gorgeous quality!

Loved this place!! Great food and the best service in WA!

Had an impromptu meal with friends at Blackbird tonight. Great food, friendly, knowledgeable & efficient service & an excellent bottle of Italian red. A real gem.

Wouldn't allow us to bring a birthday cake even when i offered to pay for cakeage for my friends birthday elebration. The chargrilled bread was very burnt not edible at all. The slow cooked pork belly was very overcooked and extremely stringy. Food was quite disappointing but the service was great.

Fantastic!. My partner and I wanted to have a nice romantic dinner so we decided to go to blackbird based on its review. It was a perfect evening with amazing food and great service. We had a table outside which was nice and scenic.<br/><br/>We ordered the chargrilled bread, gnocchi and pork belly, and every item was flawless. We were also pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices.<br/><br/>We will definitely be returning!

Love it. Always great. Can't get enough!

Absolute spur of the moment decision to dine here and wow....! I really need to make more spur of the moment decisions if they are going to pay like this one! We found a hidden gem in East Perth! Service was fantastic the beautiful girl that served us was friendly, knowledgeable and helped to create a warm atmosphere..even though we were sitting outside haha, we had the last two bottles of French wine and devoured waay too many house cured olives! The tomato tart with Parmesan icecream was surprisingly delicious as was the side dishes of green beans and pumpkin, fetta salad :) Will definitely be returning... made a note to make a reservation for a booth seat next time.

Great local bistro. Brought my girlfriend here for a special dinner last week - was looking for an intimate place with good food, atmosphere etc. Upon arrival waitstaff was friendly and courteous, and wen we let out that its a special date, they set us up in a nice spot overlooking the lake. Wen i looked at the menu i was surprised at how reasonable the prices were - not sure what the other reviews meant. I got the fish dish and anywhere else is at least 38 bucks, here it's 35, and they get the fish in fresh as well. <br/>girlfriend had the handmade gnocchi and really enjoyed it. Wine list was interesting - props to the waitress who picked a great cocktail for my gf to start with, great wines to match our meals, even wines to match the cheeses at the end. <br/>Needless to say, i'l be in my gf's good books for a while!

Cosy little restaurant. A gorgoues little restaurant that has the most romantic atmosphere when sitting inside. beautiful food, great service, a succinct wine list that has something for everyone. Has now topped the list of my favourite restaurants.
Mihail
Nice location, great service, food is ok small portions, expensive not really worth the time.

Back to black. Dined here a few weeks back after reading such positive reviews on Urbanspoon.<br/><br/>My first encounter with the staff was very pleasant. They were having trouble with their phone system that day and after leaving a message, I was called back promptly to arrange a booking.<br/><br/>The restaurant is located in East Perth in a quiet, area around from the Royal. It's has a very dark interior but provides an intimate setting for patrons. <br/><br/>Upon arrival we were seated at a table near the entrance. We (4 of us) ordered sourdough and olives to start and decided to order just mains thinking that would be sufficient. The mains options are limited so we went with two beef cheeks, a fish and one lamb shoulder. Potatoes and cauliflower were additions that were to be shared. Although the food was lovely and the beef cheeks 'amazingly tender' the portion sizes were disappointing. With each main around the mid $30 mark, I don't expect to order a three course meal in order to satisfy my hunger.<br/><br/>This place rates well but for me, I won't be returning. The price for me doesn't justify the meal.
Elliot Farrow-Shaw
Portions were too small, service was medioka, price was excessive for pretty much everything. Had better meals at a fast food restaurant. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant!
Benedikte Sophie Middleton
Horrible experience got served Parmesan cheese ice cream instead of white choc!! Waitress was rude and had NO knowledge about the menu! When I asked for a good wine she said 'its all there'. And prices were ridiculous $406 for 6 people!! Portions were also TINY! Horrible horrible not worth it!
Debbie Long
Dibbi. Wow, loved it. the service was fantastic, fast and I liked the explanation give by the lovely waitress about the specials. She knew her wines too. Although it was an expensive night out we would go again, the food was simple but tasty. Arrived quickly and so I give it 10/10....but dont tell too many people as dont want the prices to go up too much

The menu is a delightful surprise every time I go there! The same great service, atmosphere, and sincerity compliment the varying menu to make Blackbird an experience every visit.

Room With a View. Last week I went with my wife to Blackbird Restaurant for a quick lunch. That turned out to be a treat.<br/>The staff were very friendly and attentive.<br/>We were so impressed with the food and servings, we are looking forward for another occassion to visit the same place again.

Atmosphere and service excellent. Food good, one of us got a very small portion. Good rather than great.

Blanket service!. Tuesday July 17 Dinner<br/><br/>Very cosy little restaurant<br/>Decor and setting perfect for a date<br/>Love the knowledgeable staff and amazing descriptions of food when you ask them<br/>Love the alfresco seating<br/>Love the blanket they offered as it was cold<br/>Excellently seared scallops.... perfectly cooked beef... heart warming pumpkin and sage soup... eclectically served pannacotta with cardamon... I can keep going on... but that would spoil too much of the lovely goodness this place offers!! :)<br/>A must try.<br/>Parking can be difficult on busy nights.. and don't worry.. no dress code :)

Simple and nice. My bf took me to blackbird last nite. I like the fact that it is a just a small simple restaurant within the suburbs and it has a small menu. This is what suburb dining should be like.. not overachieving. <br/>Of course it makes it hard for choices if you are a fussy eater.<br/>For entree we tried the petite soup which was beetroot and the stuffed squid. The soup was petite. but nice and simple flavours.. the squid was nice but cold. For the main course we chose the beef rump and the sweet potato gnocchi with a side of a the pear and gorgonzola salad. salad was delish and so was the gnocchi. the steak was cook perfect but nothing special about it plus it was cold. so i duno wats happenin in the kitchen with both meals not coming up at the same time so one is cold. <br/>Other than that i would return because it was nice food and cheaper than most fine dining places out there but not exactly wow.
Kevin McLeish
Did not meet expectations. Have read plenty of good reviews of Blackbird so had high expectations. Nice intimate atmosphere. Small but interesting menu. <br/>Unfortunately this was the end of the positives. Entrees of souffle was OK. Not the lightest souffle I've had. My wife and I ordered the slow braised lamb We have never had a more unpleasantly tough and tasteless dish. Very disappointing, however despite raising our dissatisfaction with staff, no apology, no compensation, totally ignored our complaint. Very poor service. With plenty of great places to eat in Perth, I will not return to Blackbird.
Andrew
Win!. While I suspect that this place is at its most popular at lunchtime, it makes an excellent venue for a special dinner. It's shadowy and intimate, and sufficiently out of the way that it feels like a secret.<br/><br/>Which it may well be, given that they only had two couples in the entire place all evening. <br/><br/>This is a terrible shame, since Blackbird is an excellent restaurant. My friend and I shared the charcuterie plate for entree, along with negroni cocktails, then I had the lamb with baby carrots and yorkshire pudding, with rosemary and vanilla creme brulee (with a side salad of smashed meringue, candied walnuts and poached pear slices) for dessert. <br/><br/>At the end of the meal we were both so stuffed that we were groaning, and the entire bill was all $150 including drinks.<br/><br/>Downsides? The creme brulee could have been more flavoursome (although the salad provided plenty of excitement). The buttered vegetable side that we shared was all gourds and root vegetables - a bit of greenery would have been nice. And the icecubes in my negroni were freakishly big.<br/><br/>But when you have delve down to "ice cube size" in order to find something to complain about, it means that everything else, from the slight smokiness of the charcuterie toast to the balance of beetroot, blue cheese and flat leaf parsley in my friend's risotto, was perfect. Blackbird did what I want a good restaurant to do - it gave me interesting and unexpected new tastes. I will definitely be back.

Cute place. Nice and romantic. Cheery helpful staff. My partner is allergic to nuts, which I'd mentioned on the phone when I made the booking. When we sat down the head waiter had informed us that prior to our arrival he'd discussed the menu with the head chef and they'd worked out what my partner could have. <br/>Very impressed. <br/>Will be going back.
Christopha
Very tasty food and attentive service. The price of the dishes are reasonable too. A very nice experience all round.

Lovely. Went here with friends and was blown away with the food and ambience of this small family run restaurant. Loved the tongue salad and then moved from France to the USA with bbq brisket. Excellent drinks and service. This is a hidden gem.
Patrickhenry56
Blackbird restaurant. Great service by waiters<br/><br/>My snapper fish was accompanied by a pile of kale ( a form of seaweed) and it was unedible and the filling for the fish was just as bad, this restaurant and its chefs are experimenting. Wine list is very average and expensive. My partners brisket was very good. Wont be back though, just not good enough. Menu list is bordering on the minimal
Redox
Mmmm. Another great little eatery certainly worthy of the praise it is receiving. Great food. On my list of favourites.

Always wonderful food and service!! One of my favorites

Not sure why this place isn't buzzing?. Experienced wonderful service. Loved my vegetarian meal- a Beetroot Wellington- There are not many places that design and excecute vegetarian dishes as well as the standard meat fare... the wine list is limited but the head waiter made a great recommendation and I was happy..The Blackbird seems to be down the quiet end of the canal and I felt like I wanted a little of the 'buzz' coming from 'The Royal' end- but I would go back for the relaxed dining experience..
Blake
Nice quiet intimate restaurant on the water. Food was excellent, good portion sizes and attentive service. Recommend the beef brisket and sweet potato gnocchi with smoked duck breast. Will be back.
Fitzeratorr
Nice. Was there recently on Saturday night with three friends. Very chatty and helpful waitperson who gave us a good steer on the wine choice. Food was nice, tasty, well presented and hot and was an enjoyable evening. Only down side was menu was very limited in choice especially if you take away the vegie options there were only 3 or 4 choices left on entree and mains.
Perth_local_eats
Superb!! My partner and I just went for a romantic pre-valentine's dinner and was extremely impressed! Hoping for something special and we were not let down. Fabulous service, food was amazing and the characteristic setting by the lake was the icing on the cake! Thoroughly recommended!!
Liz
Average service and overpriced. Food was good but not worth $40 a main- it may be on the canal but you can see it so still not worth the price. Service was average, pushy with forcing entree and deserts and coffee. Wine list was average and more overpriced than the food

Everything was just perfect!!

Great food and service in East Perth. We went here for a birthday dinner on Saturday (14th Jan) and while the menu has a limited number of options (good for the indecisive!), we tried most of them amongst our table of 6 and all said their meals were delicious! The Beetroot Wellington was particularly good - the waitress told us up front it would take at least 40 mins but that wasn't a worry. Service was great although later in the evening when the place was full, it took a bit longer - which the waitress apologised for when she did make it back to fill water/wine glasses and finally bring the dessert menu. The cheese board and bittersweet chocolate tart were both well received. I would definitely go again and try something else on the menu.
Elena
In love with the place! Everything was excellent! Service, food, atmosphere, location A+!
Giggle And Hoot
Reserved at the last minute but got in!! Initial impressions: nice intimate size with views of the lake. Bread: tried the wholegrain and chipotle. It's homemade but quite heavy. Like a savory muffin but nice with oil and balsamic. Entree: had the pork belly and scallops. Both were excellent. Pork had a thin crispy skin and meat was silky and tender. Matched with crunchy apple. Yum. Scallops perfectly cooked and pumpkin sauce worked well. The Spanish blood sausage was cooked to a crunchy texture. Main: fish of the day and black angus sirloin. Fish was gold band snapper. Cooked nicely and had a crispy salted skin. Came with potatoes and beans. The beef main was ordered medium and came out that way and was sliced into five pieces. Didn't look like a lot on the plate but it was more than enough. Came with thick thrice fried chips. Beef was tender and tasty. We ordered a side of the brussel sprouts with Harissa. Unusual combination but worked well. Only minor negative was there was a fair wait between entree and main. Desserts: sorry too full to order, but the handful on the menu sounded nice. Next time Service was great. Water and champagne was always topped up (this should be a given in any good restaurant, but sorely is not always the case). The head waiter was knowledgeable and always up for a chat without intruding. Tonight was actually my 3rd year wedding anniversary so the fact we had a great night with great food on a hot summers night made it even more special. What was surprising was that it cost less than $200 and that included a $65 bottle of bubbly. I'll be back again
Joe
Surprisingly good. This place was tiny... went there with 11 other people as they have good reviews so we thought we give it a go.<br/><br/>And we didnt regret it! Everything was just good! Pork belly and scallops were delish for entree. For main, the fish was just simple and delicious, the black angus was really really good! Cooked to perfection. Serving size was OK. I know in some other places they do have higher standard food but oh my it was only a mouthful and cost $30.<br/><br/>Service was good. Maybe they could do better with one more waiter/waitress?<br/>Menu selection is not much but as long as they are cooked to perfection, im not complaining..<br/><br/>but overall, a little gem in east perth! will be back for sure

Outstanding. Enjoyed a fabulous meal at Blackbird - a new find and I believe one of East Perth's best kept secrets.<br/><br/>The menu is small, however the food is sensational. The service is exceptional as well. We took a couple who were visiting from the UK. It was their second night in Australia and following the meal they suggested that it was going to be difficult to top.<br/><br/>Tuesday night is BYO wine night - $9 corkage, so worthwhile taking along a bottle of your favourite to enjoy with dinner.
EatingGuy
Awesome experience. Dined here on a Friday night, this room comes alive at night, it's softly lit, not too noisy and says "Welcome" like few rooms in Perth. The food, wine are service did not let this first impression down, from start to finish this was one of the most complete restaurant meals we've had in Perth, and excellent value for money. Shortly after dined at The Partisan, Blackbird blew it away on all counts - this is a real gem!

Nothing Black about it!. This place was really what local higher end eateries should be about. Delicious, simple and local food, effortless friendly and informal service and a top notch wine list that covers most bases. <br/><br/>The salmon, although slightly salty was full of flavour and oh so light! The perfect start to the meal AND an omega 3 booster. My dining companion had the souffle which was like tasting a cloud.<br/><br/>Mains were the lamb shank pappardelle (no bones -pure flakey-meaty goodness) with rosemary, cherry tomatoes and parmasen. It had a really nice balance of flavours, and although our accompanying wine was a sweet riesling it was a great match. <br/><br/>My dining companion had the chicken on the bone with polenta and leek. It was tener and juicy without being overdone. <br/><br/>The menu was small, but I find that's a good sign, because often they have concentrated on making these absolutely tops and usually have a chicken / fish / beef etc.<br/><br/>To finish, we had the chocolate pudding, soft and a creamy accompanied by light banter with the staff over what was a more suitable utensil: the long small spoon or a fork and dessert spoon. We settled on the latter. But this is where Blackbird really stood out: the fabulous staff. One of our favourite hosts from Balthazar served us and he was so effective, pleasant and although the place with small, with only one other equally talented staff member, they covered the room with ease. <br/><br/>We'll be back, it's great not not a no fuss local joint, but with emphasis in all the right places.

Ate here before and the food was very good, dined there again with a couple of friends. The food was not as good this time. It wasnt bad just not great.

One of my new favourites. What we had:<br/><br/>strt: Complimentary olives and Home made bread ($2pp)<br/>entr: Confit Duck Rilette ($16), Salmon Carpaccio ($17) <br/>main: Lamb Shank Parpadelle ($28) and ??? (forgetful!)<br/>side: Pear & Pecorino salad ($8), Roast Pumpkin ($8)<br/><br/>Before I get into the mains, just let me say that the home made bread was to die for. It was clearly freshly baked, with salt and rosemary, and served with a little balsamic and oil, and I could have eaten it all night.<br/><br/>The confit duck rilette was served as a plate with two mounds (one of duck, one of chutney) and a small slide of dijon mustard with a cute mini-bowl of ciabatta. The rilette was beautifully soft, although the chutney not as much to my liking (personal preference?)<br/><br/>I had a few mouthfuls of my partner's salmon carpaccio and it was pleasant, even though I'm not a big salmon fan.<br/><br/>The deal-sealer for my partner was the Pear and Pecorino salad, which was an interesting combination of flavours in theory, and executed very well.<br/><br/>The lamb shank was fantastic - a very reasonable size considering the style of the restaurant, and the parpadelle was cooked properly (I find 'al dente' cooked pasta is becoming rarer and rarer in Perth, even in good restaurants!) and complemented well with the tomato confit and parmesan.<br/><br/>Overall, the presentation of the food was superb, the service was attentive, and there was absolutely nothing I could fault.<br/><br/>Little details like the signage, the charming rabbit lamp as you enter, salt served in a bowl with a miniature spoon, and the stylish plates also made this night.<br/><br/>Possibly one of my new favourite restaurants in Perth.

Just what Perth Needs. I was very impressed with the service and the food at this quaint little restaurant in East Perth. It is reasonably priced for the quality of the food and the service was outstanding. Knowledgeable waitresses about the wine list which is missing from other establishments.<br/><br/>I had the lamb shank papadelle it was home made and just the right sized serve. <br/><br/>Entree was the goats curd souffle was light and fluffy - perefect.<br/><br/>A must place to visit if you are doing the rounds in Perth
Aerialgirl
Blown away! Had dinner last night on a Saturday - lovely atmosphere, great jazzy live pianist (quiet not overly loud), nice reasonably priced wine list, good service and the food was something to write about. I'm generally so underwhelmed by Perth's restaurant scene; why do they all think we want to be ripped off with exhorbitant prices for tiny serves of average food? Well if you feel the same way, do yourself a favour and head to Blackbird. A small but excellent menu that knocked our socks off. When we left we took a walk around the gorgeous inlet and marvelled at what a great dining experience we'd had. Just don't tell too many people!

Great location, service, food and wine. First time at Blackbird last week. The service was outstanding and could not fault the food. A great wine list with some of my favourites. always a good sign. Will be back

Cosy little surprise. With only one hours notice to the kitchen for my no wheat/no onion requirements I was delighted to be greeted by our waitress as we were sat down at our table with an amended menu with suitable options and accompanying alterations . This attention to detail was seen throughout the night with attentive and friendly customer service. Blackbird is a cosy little restaurant oozing charm and character and the atmosphere was perfect for us to both unwind after a long week over some delicious food.<br/>I started with the Special of the Day, a portion of smoked salmon served on a bed of fennel with cumquats and lime. This dish was very light and refreshing to the palate - quite uplifting. The boy had the confit of duck and pistachio terrine. The confit was flavoursome and not dry and balanced well by the more gentle flavours of the terrine.<br/>For main we both had the seared line caught ocean trout with quail eggs - mine accompanied by mash and his accompanied by a rissotto cake. The trout was cooked perfectly, it flaked apart under my fork and melted in my mouth like butter. Definately the highlight of the evening.<br/>We progressed onto the cheeses - quite a generous serve which we both struggled to finish. A good selection of a Roquefort, hard Dutch goats cheese and my favourite of the three La bouche d'affinois. There were no GF accompanyments for the platter but this did not matter as I came prepared with some GF crackers in my bag (I had already perused the cheese menu prior to arrival!)<br/>We ended the night with a pannecotta to share. This was the least enjoyable dish as it collapased into a puddle of puree minutes after serving. It tasted like very sweet fruit puree - not entirely inedible, but certainly not what we felt like. Without either of us saying anything to the waitress, upon seeing our dish she apologised and told us she would take it off the bill for us as it was not acceptable. Like I said - their service was very attentive. <br/>Service 9/10 Food 8.5/10 Venue 8/10

Great food, wine and service. Excellent food and wine that is complimented with service to match. Menu changes often enought to be able to visit on a regular basis. Music is great as well. worth a go!

Divine. Went with a coupon for bread/olives, two mains and a bottle of wine. We oftern eat out in East Perth but didnt know about this place and we have fallen in love with it after one visit. Suprisingly rang at 12.30 and a table for 2 was fine at 1pm outside on a beautiful sunny winters day. Wild Australian olives, best I have ever had, fresh cooked herb bread straight from oven with a drizzle of olive oil and salted butter (ordered extra was sooooo good). Mains trout and risotto with saffron jus and quails egg was perfect, partners chicken tortellini with porcini sauce was to die for, pasta a little too aldente but the sauce WOW! I ordered a berry panacotta, maybe a tad sweet but lovely on the plate and nice texture and a great coffee to finish. We will definetly be back. Oh and the service, music and ambience was right on.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch on a cold winters day Perfect spot to be Meal stunning and a solid wine selection to go with it Worth your while

Too much salt, otherwise great.. I discovered Blackbird last week and we ate there one night. The restaurant is gorgeous... lovely ambience, great music in the background worth noticing from time-to-time but not intruding. The wine list is delightful. The menu sounded delicious and we had a difficult time choosing. My partner had the goat's curd souffle and I had the pork cheek for entree. We tasted each other's and they were both magnificent. For main I had the gnochi and my partner had the beef ravioli. The gnochi was cooked perfectly, the pumpkin sauce was great except that it was quite oversalted, but the maple walnuts were delicous. Unfortunately while the beef ravioli was nicely cooked, the consomme which was poured from a jug over the dish at serving was excessively salty and made the dish difficult to finish.<br/>4 other people have mentioned over-salting as a problem in their reviews. Such a shame. I would say this is the best restaurant I've been to for a while, but I hesitate to recomment it because of the salt problem. <br/>Come on chef! It's an easy problem to fix!

Glad i discovered this place!. I tried Blackbird for the first time and it was just lovely. The service was excellent but not over the top, the wine list was fantastic - i really noticed the great selection of Australian wines. I ordered the chicken with polenta and leek and it was absolutely amazing! the chicken just fell off once i touched it with my knife and I had the Yarra Valley Cab Sav to compliment. Great cosy restaurant, perfect for a intimate night out. And the setting is just lovely. A perfect opportunity to go for a walk post a tip top meal. I will be back!

Will return.. I really enjoyed my dinner at Blackbird. I thought the music was at a reasonable level (maybe I am deaf!), The food was cooked perfectly, I had the Seared Scallops for starter and the Barramundi for main. I was happy with the wine list. Price wise it was a little too expensive but I realise I live in Perth and not Melbourne anymore so I deal with it. Service was great but a bit over the top, I don't like having my glass of water refilled after drinking half of it, it feels like I'm being pandered to, but it was refreshing to have someone smile while they were serving me instead of being made to feel like an inconvenience (I am always polite to people and never treat them like they are beneath me, which is where I think most patrons go wrong).

Blackbird East Perth. OMG! The atmosphere was so cosy and romantic and the food was sublime. My partner had what he described as "the best steak in his life" and I had the Gnocchi which I ate slowly to savour every delicious mouthful. The service was outstanding. Highly recommended!

Finest Food. I live and eat out in East Perth quite often. Sonia and the team at Backbird do such a wonderful job. I've dined hear quite a number of times and am yet to have nothing less than a superb meal. I recomend this place over most in the area. The seafood dishes are in particular, very well cooked and presented and regardless of the comment about menu changes, Ive never experienced a repeated menu. Well done!

Looking forward to coming back. I am so pleased to have discovered Blackbird, it's a lovely little place with great ambience located in a nice waterfront location on the Claisebrook Cove. The premises is small and cosy, I would agree that the service was informal but extremely friendly and entirely appropriate for this boutique restaurant. <br/><br/>As for the food, well we were just blown away, it was the best meal we've had out in quite some months. For entree I had the Itchi Bai souffle which was lovely and light and well complimented by the crunch of crushed macadamias and the sharp taste of the parmesan in the accompanying salad. My partner had the special which was pork cheeks braised in cider with celeriac puree and crackling, I tried this and it was wonderful, the meat literally fell apart in my mouth. For mains he had the barramundi with vanilla potato and said the fish was perfectly cooked, I stole a taste of the mash potato and it was wonderfully creamy. We both agreed, however, that my main was the star of the show! I had the gnocchi with butternut pumpkin, spinach, walnuts and brie. The handmade gnocchi was plump, light and well cooked and the combination of flavours couldn't have been more perfect. It was, in my opinion, the best gnocchi I've ever had in a restaurant or otherwise. For dessert we shared the almond pudding with anglaise and treacle icecream which was tasty and interesting, a bit like a deconstructed pudding, and their special of the night which was white chocolate mousse with cherry jelly topped with dark chocolate mousse and cherry sherbert, this was delicious but very rich. <br/><br/>Some have complained about the size of the meals but we thought they were well balanced, we both left feeling absolutely stuffed and neither of us finished dessert.<br/><br/>With regards to drinks while Blackbird don't have an extensive winelist we felt it was good quality and well thought out, the bottle of Clos Marguerite Sauvignon Blanc we shared was fantastic. Only room for improvement according to the other half is a better barista as the coffee was fairly average.

How did we not hear about this place sooner?. After two foodie friends from work recommended Blackbird to me it immediately rose to the top of my wish list. I have to admit that I was a little bit sceptical as to whether it would live up to the hype of my friends, as I thought if it is so great, how come I had not heard about it sooner? Well, we were pleasantly surprised at this little gem! Simple, fresh, well cooked food, with great service and a cosy little atmosphere. We will definitely be heading back to Blackbird soon, as I cannot possibly wait too long before another sample of their almond pudding, with vanilla anglaise and treacle ice cream - Absolutely divine!

Sunday Lunch. Really enjoyable lunch, six of us met for lunch and had a variety from the vegetarian Borscht to the Black Angus Steaks cooked rare, steaks were a bit chewy but other wise a great meal, service was attentive and unobtrusive and were happy to accommodate a late comer for coffee, loved the live music !!

Simply Superb!. If you haven't already tried Blackbird Restaurant in East Perth, you don't know what you're missing. From the tasteful decor to the superb food and service (many thanks Caroline) it is certainly worth visiting, one of the best coffees we've had in a while - keep up the great work. Looking forward to our next visit.
Pre View
Mixed. Interesting wine list, food was average , service was way to slow - very quite when we dined and still no urgency from the staff ... seemed to be the norm .. will not be rushing back .

Mediocre. Saturday night shared dinner with friends at Blackbird.<br/>We mostly agreed that the service was extremely informal, but friendly and efficient which wasn't a bad thing.<br/>Though as the night wore on the music became louder and louder, I'm not sure if this was to clear the tables quickly, however it did have that effect on our table and the two tables adjacent.<br/>While the meals while not bad, they failed to impress.<br/>I am often disappointed that for Main course prices in the $30-$40 range + tiny sides at About $8 each giving a total that can go into the $50's + entrees, + desert + wine + coffee. A very mediocre meal in Perth can be well in excess of $100 ++. Though a pleasant evening, with average food. I'm sure we can all do better than this especially at these unjustifiable prices.<br/>If we are desensitised into believing this is OK, it is surely a sad indictment on Perth's restaurant scene.

When will they change the menu !!. This is a good little restaurant serving quality food but the menu is small and never seems to change. They really need to introduce some new dishes on a regular basis and/or to offer a different special each week.

New found friend. What can't you like about a restaurant giving you free olives and bread when you arrive. What can't you like about a restaurant who doesn't try to rip you off? The staff were so professional and actually knew what they were talking about. My partner and I went in for dinner last Sunday and we had the best night. The food, the service, the wine, it was awesome. The waitress knew what she was talking about and made us feel at ease, and the meal was amazing. The music was cool, the setting was beautiful. Would definitely recommend this little gem to any of our friends. I've also gained a new favourite wine! Thanks Blackbird!

Top Score. Pleasantly surprised, Was expecting it be not so good but after the first bite i was converted.<br/>Good job

Nice One. Dropped in for a quick lunch and was very pleasantly surprised. Not a huge range of wines by the glass but the two we tried ( Riesling & Pinot Grigio) were really nice. We had the Steak Tartare which was slighty on the salty side but absolutely delicious, and the scallops which were nice but not memorable. Will definitely be returning as everything one the menu was calling my name!

Ok about sums it up. Would recommend giving it a try.

Nice feel, solid food and service. Group of 8 on Friday night. Really enjoyed the whole experience from a welcoming greeting through to the thanks for coming at the end of the meal.<br/>Good tableware and glasses, nice tight little wine and food menu. All 8 were really pleased with the food, the barramundi was sweet and succulent with a roasted italian tomato and bread salad, beef was perfect as were the side dishes of broccolini, salad leaves with walnuts and chunky chips.<br/>Didn't manage dessert or cheese unfortunately but the coffees were good.<br/>Looking forward to trying it out again in a few months

Cant wait to return!. Love this intimate wee place.<br/>Food is to die for.<br/>Staff are friendly and courteous, this is one of my favourite eateries in Perth and cant wait to return.

Dawn Chorus. To be honest after 4 critical reviews of other eateries, I find it amazing that I am finally recommending this place to all my friends (hopefully not to the detriment of my future bookings). For months I had started to give up hope on finding new establishments that provided not just good food but good service, well Blackbird has proven me wrong.<br/><br/>My partner and I descended on this quaint little eatery on a Friday evening. We were warmly welcomed by a courteous waitress. The menu was enchanting and caused immediate selection headaches. The wine list was not prohibitively long but clearly had a well thought out selection to cater for all.<br/><br/>The maitre d continued along the theme of excellent service (I was shaking my head in disbelief at this point, how could it happen in Perth?), and orders were taken. Between the 2 of us we can definitely recommend the pate and scallops for entree and the steak and gnocchi for main. Constant attentive but non-intrusive service was well appreciated by us both.<br/><br/>All in all a lovely way to end the working week, good food, good wine & impeccable service. Enjoy!!
Lynshane1
Great Food. The verdit was unanimous - the food was great but what let the night down was the obnoxious German waitress and as we sat in a corner it was very hot. The other two waitresses were efficient and gracious.
Sweetcheeks
Great spot for lunch. Went with my daughter for impromptu quick sunday lunch before checking out the Guggenheim exhibition and was very impressed with the outlook, the food and the service. Lovely touch to give a little something to tide patrons over while they wait (not long) for their food. Great steak sandwich, wonderful bread, good choice of wine by the glass. Enjoyed the experience even though we didn't have loads of time and will be back soon for a more leisurely meal.
Deb
Superb !. I had one of the best pate entrees I have ever eaten and can thoroughly recommend the W.A. (Denmark) sparkling chardonnay , which is available by the glass , to go with it . Luxury !
Suzi
So Good. If you like great food and service give Blackbird a go. Prices are also excellent.

My new favourite!. My boyfriend and I had dinner here on Saturday night, and it has to rank as one of my most favourite dining experiences! The venue was inviting and intimate, the staff friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.<br/><br/>So on to the food . . . what can I say? It was exquisite!! The handmade duck pate was to die for and our steaks were perfectly cooked. All washed down with a great bottle of red, and finished off with handmade chocolate truffles. Yum!!<br/><br/>I will definitely be returning to Blackbird again soon!
Carolyn Field
Outstanding. 4 of us visited Blackbird last night and were delighted with the friendly service and the food. Had read some other reviews but we thought the serving sizes were just right and although we had entrees and mains (could only manage truffles with our coffee) we left feeling very satisfied without being over full. Best comment of the night came from a friend who said "Wow I wish I could cook steak like that" after he devoured his black angus! Have dined with this man for 30 years and its the first time he has been completely satisfied with his steak!!! Small menu but still plenty to choose from. Will be back soon and hopefully will be able to sit outside on a warm night

Friendly and classy. Went here for a sunday evening dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. Very friendly and high quality service in an intimate setting. Entree: twice-baked herb souffle, delicately flavoured. Mains: I had an excellent sirlion steak with rosti, tomato slices with boccinini - absolutely excellent - matched with a Gordon Parker Shiraz, with sides of buttered carrots and green salad with walnuts. Lovely meal. This restaruant deserves repeated patronage - we will be back.
Seoulcitykitty
Lovely.... This cosy little bistro is serving some well-executed food at the right price and right by the water. Some might find the portion sizes a little on the small-side, I found them to be just right for a three-course meal. A well-chosen wine list just adds that little cherry on top! Will be back for more.

We have been to this place twice now, it was so delicious the first time we went back with friends. We have recommend to all the food lovers we know and everyone has raved!

Amazing Food. Last two outings have been to the Blackbird Restuarant. We found the food well presented, good size portions and theSmoked Ocean Trout Pie we had last visit - Cooked to perfection - Loved it.<br/><br/>Also staff are very friendly and always looking after us.
Chris
AT LAST!!!!!!!!. I found it finally fine dinning at an affordable price.I have been to the Blackbird for both menus and was highly impressed with the friendly staff who explained each meal in detail and i went with the chefs choice braised beef cheeks which were to die for .I had to go back for more and i had the quail i have to say the best bird i have eaten and my friends went for the fish pie which they said was amazing.the wine list was also impressive and the prices more than reasonable get in quick i for one will be back soon.<br/><br/>thankyou for an awesome evening blackbird
Mrs Chippie
Ooooh that's NICE!!!. I love it when you take a chance on a new restaurant and it ends up being a winner! On Saturday night we went out to Blackbird restaurant and we were so impressed with the service, food and atmosphere. How often do you get complimentary bread, olives and amuse-bouche? My husband is a steak man and he was more than impressed with how the steak was cooked - perfectly rare, just the way he likes it. I had the gnocchi - so good I could have eaten more! Our sides of chips and brussel sprouts were tasty and just the right portion size for the two of us. The waitstaff's knowledge of wines is excellent - I was excited to try W.A's first pinot grigio.<br/>I will definitely go again and tell the babysitter to expect us later rather than sooner so that we can do the long leisurely entrée, main and dessert dinner!

Strongly Disagree. Pauline & Charles I must strongly disagree with a lot of your comments. I was at Blackbird last night with a group of 14. Five of us ordered the Smoked Ocean Trout Pot Pie and four others who didn't order it tasted it & loved it.<br/><br/>I have to say I am usually not a fan of anything smoked really but, last night the comments about how brilliant this pie was were flowing thick & fast. Being cautious not to overstate things, I'll use the word "almost", so to the best of my memory I'd say it was almost the best pie I've ever had. There was one in our party who said she found it a little bit rich and even then she ate it all and said she enjoyed it.<br/><br/>Not too many restaurants can get everything right all the time especially when they're just new. But Blackbird is just brilliant.<br/>Further, I know we all have to live within our budget limits but I cannot believe anyone on this site would be calling for a $25 bottle of house wine on the menu at such a restaurant. I am gob-smacked that the Francois Labet Chardonnay is only $49 per bottle - Blackbird have obviously sourced quality wines at reasonable prices. When I am deciding what restaurant to go to the first thing I do is look at the wine menu & any place offering $25 bottles of wine is looking for a cafe reputation at best.<br/><br/>Keep doing what you're doing Blackbird (but the chips could do with a little less salt).<br/><br/>I can't wait to go back!
Pauline
Blackbird East Perth. The service is excellent. The menu is limited. It would be good to have a fresh fish dish on the menu as a healthy option. They do use a lot of salt. The desserts need to be improved. The crumble was dry and far too sweet . It was like pureed baby food. The topping was dry. Vanilla ice cream would have suited it rather than balsamic. Banana fritters consisted of several deep fried bits of banana. Far too much batter and the banana couldn't be tasted.<br/>The fish pot pie consisted of lots of runny creamy sauce and salty fish.It was like a chowder really.<br/>The place has great potential. I love the setting, the friendly efficient staff, the sparkling wine glasses. The service was the best I have had in Perth for many, many years.
Lisa
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Blackbird Restaurant is absolutely divine. The menu is select and the food is of excellent quality. It's only been open for 3-4 weeks but the service is faultless, the place is run with pride and attention to detail and the food and wine list are exemplary. And if that wasn't enough, it's very reasonably priced - a rare but pleasant surprise when dining out in Perth! We sampled the cauliflower soup with flowerpot bread (served in a mini flowerpot! How cool!) the black angus steak (a daily special) and the braised beef cheek. All were fantastic. We were too full for desert but the banana fritters and apple and walnut crumble sounded delish - maybe next time! This will definitely be a regular haunt and in a very short time, it will surely become one of Perth's next cool places to eat.
Food Snob
What a spot! East Perth finally has a proper bistro, and on the waterfront! Great staff, most from popular places in Perth like Balthazar, Duende and the Pony Club. Food is very good and well priced. Service and setting is excellent with attention to details like top class stemware, cutlery and linen. Once this place is well known you will need to book weeks inadvance. Discover it now before it gets too busy.
Queen Of Bad Timing
Our waitress was friendly and attentive, topping up our water constantly and checking in without being intrusive. The atmosphere, though a little awkward from how quiet it was, is quite charming.
Foodprints
For the mains I decided to go for the pork belly, the pork belly was crispy up top however it was a very fatty piece which ultimately resulted in the dish being a tad too oily. The lentils were a good accompaniment to the pork as it broke up the fattyness of the pork.
Foodphrodite
I came here for lunch and the place was pleasant with nice views. For entrée's I had the duck parfait which was very tasty but wasn't filling as it came with toasted baguette rounds for dipping. For the mains I had the steak which came with chips. It was carefully crafted however, it wasn't really steak as it was more like small beef strips but surprisingly, it filled me up and was cooked to perfection. If I had it for dinner I would probably would still be hungry after the meal though as it was a small serve. The chocolate tart looked very nice. There were a few mozzies flying around due to the hot weather but other than that the service was great. I would come here again... and bring the insect repellent.
Sandy
It’s really cosy and the menu changes every couple of months and it sounds like the team there are really keen on the delicious food/comfortable place thing. The other patrons there looked like they knew about fine dining, but there’s no air of snobbery or pretentiousness. They’ve got really good taste in sit-around music too. It was just… nice.

Likes: lovely outdoor seating area; Dislikes: average food for steep prices; Lunch at Blackbird will cost around $45 per person
Taste Test - Food.Life
Our food took forever to arrive and I am not exaggerating...well maybe a little bit. Entrées took around an hour to come out and mains another 45 minutes to an hour; at least desserts only took 30 minutes to arrive. Considering it was only a three course meal, we were there for almost 3 hours which is definitely not acceptable; that's about the same time it takes for a six to eight course degustation. They were not busy for a Saturday night, they still had some empty tables, yet our food took a very long time to come out and we received no updates or apologies from the wait staff. Thank goodness for good company!
The Sneaky Pigeon
Dessert aside, Blackbird is a fantastic little fine-dining restaurant and the surrounds and service would make it a memorable setting for a starry-eyed date. I will definitely go back to try their al la Carte menu soon!
Liv Bambola
Well, it’s not really a secret, it’s my favourite restaurant in all of Perth. Yeah, I went there. All. Of. Perth.
Beks
This should not be called a steak sandwich. A sandwich it was not. This was a little slice of heaven on ciabatta.
Perth Munchkin
Our starters arrived fairly promptly. Everything looked quite nice. The salad perhaps looked a little on the basic side, just a little regular, could have probably been prettied up a smidge but I suspected it might be a nice refreshing contrast to the fried squid and the deep fried croquettes. The squid was fine but definitely lacked any sort of punchy kick on the spice front. And we both wished they had included a fresh lemon wedge just to spritz on top and lift the flavours. The croquettes were definitely my favourite. Well seasoned and with a tasty combination of beef, cheese and some sweetness from the red capsicum. The outer coating was light and crispy and all in all they were just plain yum.
Perth Munchkin
I wouldn’t mind heading back though to give it another go. Especially for dinner.
Shaun
I really enjoyed my dining experience at Blackbird. The service was warm and friendly, constantly topping up our glasses of water, and the kitchen was quick and efficient in delivering our meals at the perfect pace. The portion sizes are on the generous side and well worth the money given the quality of the dishes.
WenY
At this point it was very clear what Blackbird tries to do. Their cooking retains all the flavors of the key ingredients. Hence, their products were more subtle in seasoning but relied heavily on the aroma of the ingredients along with its natural sweetness. I found the risotto to be ..
Adrian
The menu is a constantly changing menu, which as far as main courses are concerned, generally contains a few meat dishes, a fish dish, and a vegetarian dish.

Meal of the trip - by the water, lovely quaint atmosphere and amazing food. Our table enjoyed the pork belly special, steak sandwiches and an amazing pan fried gnocchi dish. Make sure you have the house made herb bread!

Blackbird. Bf and I ended up having a lovely dinner at Blackbird and I wouldn't be hesitate to refer the place to you. It's a cosy restaurant, rather romantic and relaxing. The waitstaff are friendly and the service is always present. The menu is small, but they do the dishes very well and from the looks of the different plates coming out for other people it all looked beautiful. To top it off, the price is so decent for Perth. Worth checking out at least once.
