Review Firewater Grille - Perth

Melissa Lace
We went to the $45 lunch buffet. The ambience was nice and calm, the service was very proffesional and one of the best we had seen. Unfortunately the food was a miss. They had served ravioli, four curries, steak, potatos, brussel sprouts, rice, sushi, seafood, salad and desserts. The pasta was very old, dry and they had just covered it in sauce. The steak was either well done or raw. Potatos were really dry and were supposedly cooked in duck fat. They had a falafel station but no one looking after it. The desserts were sickenly sweet, one of them I bit into it - some egg whites were raw and tasted pungent. I think they must have been good at one point but there didn't seem to be enough people to justify better quality turn over of food. It felt like the people who made the food did not bother to taste. The only things that tasted ok at the buffet was the Indian food.

I booked a dinner for 3 for my wife on the Saturday before Mother's Day. Since my wife is partial to Bloody Mary's I made a request that the bar have tomato juice available because many bars in Perth do not appear to stock it. Imagine our surprise when we entered the bar and not only had they remembered the tomato juice, but my wife said it was the best Bloody Mary she had, had in years. After drinks we moved onto the Firewater Grille for dinner and enjoyed tremendous food and service. The menu and ambience made the evening one to remember

We went here for lunch and celebrating our birthdays. The ambiance and elegance of the restaurant decor if beautiful and inviting. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We opt for the flavours of the world lunch buffet which only happen on Thursdays /Fridays from 12-2pm. I truly enjoyed every dishes they offered. Good range of different cuisine and flavoursome.

We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary at the Firewater Grill and were treated to an absolutely delicious meal. The service was impeccable and only made the experience even more memorable. I can highly recommend Firewater Grill to anyone looking to enjoy a fine dining experience. As it was our anniversary we were also surprised with a little anniversary cake which was a lovely touch đŸ„°

Fantastic service and delicious dinner and drinks. Had the lamb liver for entree and wasn't a fan of the lemon tahini, though the liver and braised onion combo was very good. Had the berry canele for dessert and while the ganache and such was absolutely wonderful, the cake part was rubbery and tasted like it had just been taken out of the fridge - inedible. The Aqua Aged Scotch fillet was incredible, especially with the red wine jus. However two of us ordered this but were informed there was only one left available, which was a bit disappointing for 8pm on a Friday night. The handcut fries were nothing incredibly special, but were a great vessel to try the wonderful array of sauces available. A special shout out to the truffle butter mash potato because that was absolutely the best potato I've ever had. Overall it was a fantastic experience that I would definitely recommend to steak lovers and anyone who is looking for a special night out.

The most amazing lamb rack I have ever had, so tender and tasty, perfect in every way. Desert was honey cake and it was so so sweet and tasty! They gave us a lovely anniversary desert on a plate, which was so sweet. The staff were perfect, couldn't fault them, so friendly.

The chicken was dry and there were no vintages stated on the wine list but the excellent service made up for it and I still enjoyed the evening.

Just visited the Firewater Grille and the food was 40 mins late and definitely not worth the wait or the price. The tap water was not refilled while we waited for a long time for only 2 dishes (burger and an entree) and some people were being served bread and some not. Next time, visit Dome across the road!

Firewater Grille is the best Seafood Buffet I have had so fair since living in Perth . Great service excellent food 😋

A great lunch yesterday with the girls. We all felt pampered with attentive service in the comfortable restaurant in luxurious chairs. I especially enjoyed the cannelloni.

Asparagus soup and grilled snapper. I enjoyed it so much. Beautiful meal. We will go there again that is for sure,

Our first time at this restaurant and I can't recommend it enough! Food was amazing and to make things so much better service was great! Anthony was out waiter and he really went the extra mile :)

We had the Buffet lunch on Friday 20th January. Fantastic range of dishes from delicious mushroom soup, lamb curry, beef stroganoff, pasta, squid rings, salads, cheeses, deserts and coffee. Absolutely loved it. Will definitely be back. Extremely well priced and excellent service.

We had a bridal shower of 20 people and 5 of us chose their free flowing champagne high tea yesterday. Unfortunately we had to ask every single time for our glass to be topped up. As the time only runs 2.30-4 it worked out we paid $20 for 2 glasses of Chandon. We had to ask for our table to be cleared and ask for our tea to come out for each individual person. I could understand if they were busy in the restaurant but there were on 2 other tables occupied with 1 person on each! There was 4 wait staff working at this time walking around our table or setting up the tables for there dinner service which starts at 6pm. I had eaten here before for dinner which was outstanding and the service then was impeccable (when the restaurant was full!) but yesterday has left a very disappointing feeling towards ever going back again.

Absolutely best restaurant experience I've had in a long time! We started with the Pannini Chorizo Octopus Plate and that bread might have been the best I've eaten. Ever. Mains were awesome. Wine excellent. Staff and service were exemplary. Very underrated venue, highly recommended!

Great food, wine and service - the waiter even sing me happy birthday. Di Sparkes

Went for Hightea, was lovely. Thought we would go for lunch, but today was not their day. 1. The wrong water was given to us. 2. We ordered two dishes without chilli, but chilli was in the food. 3. They ran out of the wine we were drinking. 4. Requested no ice in a juice, ice was in the juice. 5. Eftpos was not working, went over to reception, without asking, they assumed which account to use, it was wrong, needed to re-do. 6. Could not enter 5 mins early. They did however give 2 of the 3 people a free dessert.

We went for a birthday lunch buffet and the food, ambience and service was nothing short of amazing! There was a variety of different asian dishes.. Their spread was good and the dishes, delicious. The buffet was well priced. Will definitely be visiting this restaurant again!! Absolutely loved it!

We stayed at the Duxton and a very nice hotel it is. The Firewater Grill is average. The staff are great. The menu needs expanding. The main dishes are ok but on the small size and all additional side dishes , salad, etc you need to pay additional. It is not the cheapest place to eat. Meals were average to good.

Excellent service with excellent food. Steak - eye and scotch fillet were cooked to perfection and very tender. Peppercorn sauce was lacking pepper but was tasty. Chicken wrapped prosciutto was fantastic coming from a 17 year old fussy eater and my 13 year old son was extremely pleased with catch of the day - a big chunky piece of moist snapper. Dessert was ok, the seeds from the strawberries were removed....my 13 year old noticed this! Quite a rarity. All in all, highly recommended. I would revisit this place as the quality of food is top notch and value for money.

Booked in to the Firewater for dinner before going on to the Concert Hall next door for a brilliant night of Grieg and Dvorak. On arrival, we advised that we had just over an hour before the concert and we were promptly guided to our table near the wonderful waterfall feature. The dining room which was nearly full, without feeling crowded, is light and elegantly modern with a touch of 'white-glove' luxury.<br/><br/>Our server arrived with water, confirmed and noted that we had a concert to attend and took our orders. With a recent 'bad sirloin steak experience' at an East Perth waterside restaurant fresh in my mind, we decided to order medium rare sirloin steaks all round.<br/><br/>Within a very short time our drinks were delivered, closely followed by our meals. The steaks were cooked perfectly and were all mouth-wateringly tender and delicious. The accompanying vegetables and gratin potato were also on point. As we were on a schedule, we restricted ourselves to mains and drinks only.<br/><br/>Our friendly server was appropriately attentive and very polite.<br/><br/>Perth is a fairly expensive place to dine and, given that context, the Firewater Grille is a great value for money dining experience. <br/><br/>Highly recommended
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
Iv been here twice now. I did upload a review about 2 years ago but for some reason It’s no longer listed. <br/><br/>The first time I came here I had steak it was rare and it was cooked to perfection! Don’t have photos anymore of the first time I was here because it’s on my old phone. However<br/><br/>This time I came here on a date with a boyfriend of mine. He loved the food. He ordered seafood where as I am vegetarian and immune was a little more blend!!!<br/><br/>For a entree. My friend had citrus salmon, he said it tasted amazing! <br/><br/>Main he has the barramundi! He said it was so tasty and loved it!!! <br/><br/>For a entree I had the vegetarian salad with beetroot and asparagus and goats feta. It was ok but a little over priced for what it was!!!!<br/><br/>For my main I ordered the vegetarian risotto! It was so tasteless and a very small serving it was a big let down. <br/><br/>For two cocktails and a entree and a main each, $149 is quiet a bit of money! But when the food is not up to the standards it’s a let down :-(

Very professional service and great ambience. We only came to try the desserts. The warm sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream was heavenly, my next fav was the orange and almond loaf with raspberry ice cream. White chocolate and mango pannacotta was slightly sweet but still good. Hoping to return to try other food here soon!

Went for a Wednesday work team lunch buffet, the setting felt upmarket and ambiance was great. Food was good but limited, with the price in mind, I still considered it good value.
Vik
I went for lunch on a weekday. It was not crowded so I liked the ambience. Food is limited compared to Atrium, Monterey or Cafe at Hyatt. Starters were ok but mains were a let down, especially Asian dishes. Dessert were good although limited in variety. The main let down was plates and cutlery were dirty. So better cleaning required

Came here twice for dinner and both times I was blown away by the accomodating, great and friendly service, the steak was spot on! And the game plate was also impressive, good flavours all round and cooked well. Dessert was very good. One of the best places in Perth cbd for a top steak!

"They serve with white gloves," said my mother-in-law as she glided one hand on top of the other. Apparently that was one of the reasons this place was chosen over others as a venue to celebrate a cousin's milestone birthday. I was happy to tag along. <br/><br/>We had the following:<br/>1) Smoked salmon roll/sandwich: 5/5 very nice and creatively done. <br/>2) ham sandwich: it was so tiny and there was hardly any fillings, 2/5<br/>3) gazpacho: bad idea. Not nice at all. 1/5<br/>4) arancini ball: this was very nicely done. 5/5<br/>5) tart: the base was done perfectly but the filling was bland. 3/5<br/>6) scones: nice and nothing to complain about. 3/5<br/>7) Red velvet cake: this was one of the best red velvet cakes I've ever had and usually I don't even eat the icing but I enjoyed every part of it and even ate my sister-in-law's portion (she didn't want it). 5/5<br/>8) creme brûlée custard: it was presented nicely but was bland. 3/5<br/>9) panacotta: nice but bit more watery than expected. 4/5<br/>10) marble tea cake: it was OK. 4/5<br/>11) macaron: I had a chocolate flavour one and it was very nice. 5/5<br/><br/>Service was also really cordial and professional. We all agreed we would like to come back one day but would prefer if they had a few more savouries than sweets next time.

We went to Firewater Grille for their high tea as our second choice. Our booking experience before we'd even arrived was fantastic - the staff were more than happy to accommodate our dietary requirements and discussed the menu with us beforehand. <br/><br/>The restaurant is very quiet during high tea on a Sunday. We were only one of two parties in and we got a booth which made it feel more intimate. Our waitress, Lina, was wonderful! Very attentive, friendly and helpful.<br/><br/>The food itself was delicious - sandwiches, goats cheese tartlet, gaspacho, arancini, scones and a variety of sweets. Every single item that I tried was better than the one before it. I wasn't disappointed by any of the dishes. Plus, unlimited tea!<br/><br/>For just the high tea, it was $45 per person, which is no more expensive than any other high tea I've had, and considering the quality of the venue and food, I'd say it was definitely worth the money.

Nice and luxury atmosphere. Friendly staffs. Few of us had our dinner few nights ago. <br/>Entree we had Asian pork belly with scallops and apple slaw. Pork belly's texture was nice, love the simple seared scallop but the slaw was a bit too acidic for me. Asparagus soup with goats cheese and spinach gnocchi was plain and not too bad. Caesar salad is average. <br/>Main we had medium rare steak which were a little over. Staff did mention if we would like a new one but nvm, tasted great still. Chicken ballotine were pretty good, complimented with wild mushroom and mustard seed jus. Barramundi was served with barley lemon risotto. Both have to be eaten together as I think the risotto itself was too lemony. <br/>Desert we had lemon tart which is very lemony. Served with orange sorbet in chocolate web. For me there're too much citrus and nothing much to tie all together. I ended up had the pastry only. Cheese platter was average. Another dessert was berry cheesecake, with boysenberry ice cream. Pretty good, loving the ice cream more. <br/><br/>The down is definitely the serving time. The gap in between was way too long. And another down is the bread, they're not freshly baked, can tell from the texture. <br/>

This is a hotel restaurant- nothing more.<br/>It's located in the hotel lobby, there's a giant buffet in the middle of it and restrooms are across the hotel foyer for general use.<br/>Therefore the formally dressed servers, complete with white gloves was almost amusing. <br/>What wasn't amusing was sitting for a full 15 minutes before anyone came to take a drink order.<br/>We were engaged in conversation and we were looking for a good meal to share.<br/>If your going to put on s show of grandeur then you need to follow through. At the prices charged we shouldn't be pouring our own wine and we shouldn't need to ask for more water.<br/>That said, the food was good, charcuterie plate was just a few different terrines but ok. Ribs were delicious although finger bowls or dampened washers would've been a nice touch.<br/>Dessert platter was plenty for 3 - very good.<br/>At one point all the staff seemed to have been sent home and they started resetting for breakfast.... that was tacky.
Thekittaysmeow
Started off with a scrumptious charcuterie plate with bread and wine, followed by the barramundi and tortellini in bearnaise sauce while my partner had steak. Both were tasty but my partner said the steak could have been a wee bit more flame grilled. We were too full for dessert so we skipped

Went with my wife for our anniversay. It has a classy atmosphere and the food was exceptional. The open kitchen is a nice touch, and my only complaint is I found the chairs very upright and mildly uncomfortable. Be prepared to pay premium prices but you'll get premium food and service to match.

Went for High Tea and thoroughly enjoyed the food, bubbly and tea. The vanilla and rose water Pannacotta was sublime, have never tasted anything so divine 😝. The only let down was the service, I waited a long time for my tea to arrive. I would also have liked the opportunity to try more than one tea. In summary, food yummy but service needs more work.

Had an anniversary dinner with the girl here, and we both really enjoyed it. My pork cutlets were delicious, and the bread rolls awesome. Service was attentive and professional. Had a quiet atmosphere and nice background music,<br/>which is good as so many places are noisy. Would be good pre show as so close to the Perth concert hall.<br/>

Really nice atmosphere. Great choices of tea and cakes/sandwiches. Great place to just catch up with friends. Although quite pricey, we got full from it surprisingly.

This place deserves 3 only for the food as I'm not happy with the service.<br/><br/>Nice and cozy restaurant with good, quite, not crowded with an open kitchen. You can see the chefs having a laugh while they are enjoying the work they do. Which is good thing according to me coz I don't expect anyone from service industry to work like robots. Smile is contiguous. Seeing these people having fun actually took all the tiredness of this long flight out of me. <br/>I ordered for a pork Cutlets and garlic mashed @potatoes on side, which was beautifully cooked with all d sweet flavors of the sauce in it, garnished with fried dry coconut and walnut n served with...... mashed potatoes😏<br/>What.......?<br/>Like weren't you paying attention while I was giving my order? And if you were, why didn't you tell me that this dish gonna be served with mashed potatoes?<br/>Unnecessarily I have to pay more for the potatoes.<br/>Let's leave negativity aside, but they didn't do anything positive to make this review go positive.. when I was asked to be seated, one person comes with the menu and disappears, after almost 15 mins a waiter asked me if I was served breads or no.... <br/>After that the same.. mashed potatoes story.. <br/>I asked them to print the bill as I'll leave as soon as I get it and sign I can't go back to the room and sleep.. but then again the waiter says " we are not In Hurry Madame, take your own time," well nobody asked him to get involved and because of which I was late.<br/>

Came here for an early valentine's day dinner and service was good. The staff were very attentive and well mannered. Food came out fast and was very nice. Will definitely recommend.

I would rarely choose a hotel-restaurant but on a steaming Perth night we were looking for something easy and close. Our experience at Firewater was totally unexpected and delightful. Outstanding and attentive service, a relaxing but stylish setting, and simple meals prepared and served to perfection at what we felt were very reasonable prices for the quality of produce. The golden snapper I enjoyed was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever had, will my companion raved about his rib eye steak - removed from the bone it wasn't pretty, but cooked to perfection. An amazing desert selection was tempting, but for me, a simple piece of perfect Gorgonzola, served with glacé fruits and crisp breads (for $12 an absolute bargain) finished off a gorgeous night. Highly recommended.

Been for high tea/afternoon tea a couple times. Probably one of the larger serves in town. Very filling and good value. Really like the tea menu and the opportunity to try different flavours. Very spacious and relaxing setting - like a lounge.

Just recently had a bridal high tea here with girls with different dietary requirements. They served each and every girl so well and compiled graciously with a vegan and 4 vegetarian girls plus a nonpescatarian. The service was so good with the waiter so friendly and attentive to our requests. Had such a great time here and we even scored a complimentary top up for our Chandon due to the courtesy of the manager. Each and every dish here was so yum. Will definitely come back again.

I've never been a buffet fan.  Partly because my innate gluttony takes control and my plate resembles a United Nations of flavours piled high enough to feed a small country,  but mostly because I just feel that the quality is never quite as good as if I ordered a la carte.  However, in the spirit of the festive season I joined a large group for a rather premature Xmas lunch at the Duxton Firewater Grille. <br/><br/>The company was good and the dining room is lush. Big comfortable seats, expansive tables, quality furnishings and lighting. The service is excellent and the wine list is reasonable.  The food looked fresh and there was a reasonable selection of hot and cold that was frequently replenished (and I should know....I returned to refill often enough!!).  Nothing to complain about and it was good value for money (I think it costs more if not mid-week)

Went for there late night weekend menu 10pm-2am . Really like the concept nice to see good quality late night dining food <br/>was good. Crab linguine a little plain the pork belly was beautiful

Feeling compelled to give kudos after a shocking high tea experience at the Terrace Hotel. <br/>If you want a satisfying experience with plentiful delicious morsels and service to top, take your loved ones to Firewater Grill at Duxton. <br/>I've had a couple of experiences now- in a small group and booking out the whole restaurant for 110 happy social club members. I couldn't fault them for both experiences- they were highly professional in the lead up and during the day and coped incredibly well serving us all (at the same time!). At one stage I felt like I was at the Ritz in London again as our English waiter donning white gloves came over to enthusiastically introduce our dishes. <br/>Everything was so beautiful! The ambiance, their presentation, the staff...it was so faultless and satisfying that I even booked one year ahead for the next Mother's Day function. The picture I posted is a tier for 2 and in the 3hrs we sat there, we couldn't finish it all. We wanted to though because it was so delicious! <br/>

Saturday October 10 Supper<br/><br/>Love the beautiful elegant decor<br/>Love the non-intrusive adequate service<br/>Love the mixture of items available at the late hours <br/>Love the wine list available <br/>Love a late night spot that a little more posh 😉<br/><br/>The pork belly melted in my mouth with the perfectly seared morsel of scallop. Perfect pickled ginger Apple pear slaw to accompany. <br/><br/>Must have dessert plate!
Cake Face
Overall we had a lovely evening. The setting was lovely & intimate. The service was faultless and staff were so friendly and accommodating.<br/><br/>The food was delicious but at a total of over $250 for the two of us (3 courses) while I can't put my finger on it something was missing - it just wasn't enough.<br/><br/>Turkish bread & dip with dukkah fell short with a pet hate of mine, a dash of oil to accompany a mound of bread.<br/><br/>The pumpkin soup was creamy & delicious, but the Marron Canneloni was a bit too plain.<br/><br/>Mains - fish & chicken while both very tasty the dishes clashed. The salsa with the fish over powered the rest of the dish. <br/><br/>Dessert plate was full of tiny tasty treats - almost everything on the dessert menu.<br/><br/>Overall enjoyable, but not a cheap meal.

Loved the entire high tea experience! Amazing selection of treats presented so beautifully in three tiers of deliciousness. Loved that they served TWG teas in individual pots and you can keep requesting different flavours! Great atmosphere and it was fully booked on a Saturday. So recommend booking in advance. Great service too. Will be back again.

The Duxton in the Terrace has one of the most stylish and elegant lobbies of any of the 5 star hotels around town, and its premier restaurant, Firewater Grille, lives up to the expectations set as you walk in. (Of course being of a vintage I remember when the building housed the Tax Office and the time I and my fellow red raggers were picketing the place over APS pay claims – but that is another story).

Service left much to be desired. With my company having organised a function for almost 300 in the Duxton Ballroom on 8 May, where had both great food and attentive service, I decided to go back for dinner in the Firewater Grille last night (2 nights later). From the moment we sat down, the wait-staff showed little interest. Drinks took forever to come, after asking repeatedly. No bread rolls (standard fare) offered to our table - but some others seemed to get them. Inexperienced, disinterested and inattentive wait-staff spoiled what were tasty meals from the kitchen. I guess the staff thought we should wait, not them! The kitchen was totally let down by the wait-staff. We are used to poor service in Perth, but we shouldn't be...especially at a supposedly 5 start hotel. Far from a 5 star restaurant. Very disappointing.

Romantic pre-valentines day meal. My lady and I decided to have our Valentines dinner a day early and part of our special event was to stay at the Duxton and have dinner here at their restaurant.<br/>I was impressed with the decor and the staff service. The menu had a good red meat and fish selection and a few tasty entrees too. We had the oysters kilpatrick with some ciabatta bread. Yum ! My lady had the barramundi and I had the rack of lamb and we shared a side of mash. She really enjoyed the fish although it was a bit too salty, mainly on the skin she thought, so she took the skin off. My lamb was a bit on the rare side which was fine for me but if my lady had the dish she would have been dissapointed. Unfortunately we were too full to sample the desserts.<br/>Thank you, Chanel (our waitress), lovely service, lovely smiles.<br/>We were also here next morning for the breakfast too. Great range of cereals, fruits, pastries and hot foods including some Asian dishes too. The chef will cook various egg options to order. Everything you would expect from a top hotel, no let downs.

Ljc. We really enjoyed our dinner at the Firewater Grille, our waiter was pleasant and professional. My husband loved the pork belly entrée the best he has tried. Our steaks were great and dessert was lovley. We will be going back in a few weeks with the rest of our family :)<br/>We asked to barman in the lobby bar to suggest a cocktail we could have before dinner and the espresso martini he suggested was beautiful.

High Tea - what a lovely, civilised experience!. I would like to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation for a recent high tea experience at this restaurant (6 December). My friend and I were celebrating our joint birthdays and wanted to celebrate in style. I am so glad that we booked at the Firewater Grille. I booked online and made mention of the birthdays but didn't say anything upon arrival. We were met with a smile and promptly taken to our table. Water and champagne was quickly served and then the decadence that was our high tea arrived. Each delectable morsel was explained in depth by our friendly waiter and my mouth watered to see what awaited us. As we sampled the food, another dish was brought out to us - two gorgeous miniature cheesecakes and hand-piped chocolate writing; "Happy Birthday for the both of you". This was a very kind and unexpected gesture and our two waiters didn't stop there - they then gladly sang Happy Birthday to us. We stuffed ourselves silly and the food, champagne, tea, and service could simply not be faulted. Thank you very, very much to the staff at Firewater Grille. You made two harassed mothers of young children feel special, and full fit to bursting. I will laud your efforts to all my friends.

Good food, bad service.. I surprised my wife with a night away at the Duxton Hotel for her birthday since we were both eager to try the Firewater Grille. The Duxton was amazing but our night was deflated after having dinner at the grille. Firstly there was no one at the front table to greet and seat us and eventually when there was she sat us in a corner. Nice and cosy at first but it soon because obvious that the private and cosy corner was also invisible to the wait staff. Eventually we got the attention of one and managed to place our order and this was the last we saw her for an hour or so until we got our meals. No bread was served, no further drink orders were taken, we were just ignored until our meals came and then ignored again. I can't complaim about my meal but my wife's meal was under cooked but we could not get the attention of the wait staff. She eventually gave up on the meal and we walked up to the front to pay otherwise we probably would have been locked in when they closed later in the night. The lady in the front did give us a token discount for the crappy service but we will never visit the restaurant again. I'm sure it could be a good experience but considering the restaurant was almost empty and the service and seating was so terrible we'll just stick to the restaurants at the Crown. Better food, better prices and proper service.

Impressive pre-concert dinner. My partner and I enjoyed a quality dinner here on a Saturday evening before attending a WASO concert next door at the Concert Hall.<br/>The presentation of the dining room was good - clean, ordered and reasonably quiet considering it was a full Saturday dinner.<br/>All the staff that dealt with us were very professional. They made sure we were served and gone in time for our concert.<br/>The food was well presented and tasted lovely - we had the Salmon steak and the Lamb Rump. There was a reasonable selection of wines by the glass.<br/>After eating in so many noisy "modern" small bars and cafes it was lovely to enjoy a quality meal in a quality restaurant.<br/>Recommended.

Great Restaurant for a Special Occasion and Pre Concert dinner. We had a superb meal at the Firewater Grille at the Duxton to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary before attending a West Australian Symphony Orchestra concert at the Perth Concert Hall. This restaurant is exceptionally close to the Concert Hall and the service was exceptional to make sure we had no long delays and left on time for the concert. Our Waiter Anthony was extremely friendly and helpful and knew everything about the food offered on the restaurant menu which is a nice change these days. The Chef even prepared a lovely personalised dessert plate to surprise us for our Annivesary. We will definitely be going back to the Firewater Grille and will have no hesitation in recommending it to our friends.

Venue is relaxed and pleasant however the food is inconsistent. I had fish of the day which was snapper. Sent first plate back as inedible. Tasteless, tough and dry. 2nd plate came out no better. Person I was with enjoyed her dish (pasta).

Brilliant!. Being unable to book a table at our favourite restaurant we decided to try the Firewater Grille for an anniversary celebration. To say we were impressed would be an understatement. The ambience and service were exemplary and the food delicious and beautifully cooked and presented.<br/>We now have a new "favourite restaurant".

Perfection. My wife and I had dinner here last night. All waitstaff were very attentive and professional, but it is the food I would like to rave about! My wife ordered a fillet mignon and I a rib eye. On first impressions we weren't expecting too much from a simple steak, firewater grille definitely went above and beyond with exceeding our expectations. Both were cooked to absolute perfection!!! We both agreed 'best steaks we've ever eaten!' <br/> We will hopefully be returning soon!

My favourite high tea!. I love the atmosphere and high tea here! <br/><br/>The only shame is that you only get one choice of tea, however they do top it up with hot water when you request it. This is better than some of the other high teas I've been to which either offer you black tea or do not top up with water.<br/><br/>Great service and really impressed with their variety of savoury and sweet treats. When I went with my partner we finished the whole lot, it was just too good! I think we needed to be rolled out the door haha. <br/><br/>Went with my girlfriends the second time and it was just as lovely! Definitely a must try!
Foodie
High Tea. What a treat. Enjoyed the savoury goodies. Not sure what the point of the sushi is, bit bland but all the other bits were devine. Sweets were scrumptious. TOO much food to eat!.... which is sort of the point of high tea innit? A shame they limit you to strictly one pot of tea / coffee for $40. They should at least fill your pot with hot water ... would not cost a cent but would be a nice touch. Would def return and bring fam along.... so must be good!

Bad food, bad service. Five of us had dinner here on Saturday night for a birthday celebration.<br/>We ordered wine and when the wine glasses arrived were dirty. The wine steward said they weren't dirty but scratched they will be fine. My wife replied well then give us glasses that aren't scratched. The actual physical menu itself was dirty and grubby to the touch, much like a greasy diner not what you would expect from a restaurant located in a 5 star hotel.<br/>When the starters arrived the soup I ordered was luke warm.<br/>We ordered steaks and my steak looked like it had been through a shredder and was cold to warm. One of the other steaks was ordered rare. The steak came out rare but was dry. Not sure how they got that right. You may ask why we didn’t complain; we felt we couldn't as this seemed to be the standard and it would not have mattered. We had previously booked for a table of 14 for a Christmas dinner this has now been cancelled. I phoned the Duxton to inform them about the bad experience and all I got was we are so sorry this is quite unusual. Okay but you won’t see us again.

Amazing service, food and atmosphere!. I went to Firewater Grille for dinner last week with a group of friends, we didn't have a reservation but we got a very nice table at the restaurant. Our waiter, Alessio, had a very good knowledge about the food on the menu, recommended us very nice dishes. His service was outstanding!! The bartender James made us amazing cocktails and chose a very nice wine which perfectly fit with our food. Overall, the service and staff were amazing, would definitely recommend the place and will be coming back soon again. Thank you!

Wow! wow! wow!. A wow for the food, one for the décor and certainly another for the service! It will definitely be one of my new favourites... the restaurant is a treat indeed! Reasonable prices, beautifully presented food, generous portions, attentive service.... all within the splendour of very plush surrounds. Thank you Firewater, for a glorious night!

Went for the lunch buffet yesterday with partner. ambience meh. not much variety of food or clear stations. but was edible. quiet. even then still lacked service. their waiters should at least inform their customers how they structure their meals. didn't know what was included until when asked for drink. very disappointing. if you can't be bothered putting out then don't even bother offering a buffet.

Excellent High Tea. Went with a group of 11 ladies for a celebration. Everything was wonderful. We had a lady with us with extreme dietary restrictions and the staff could not do enough to help her choose and serve food that she could eat. The rest of us had the High Tea which was delicious and plentiful, lots of choices and all served by lovely staff and in a beautiful room. Everything was to a high standard and very reasonably priced for the weekend of $40 for High Tea or $50 with a glass of Chandon. We would thoroughly recommend coming to the Firewater Grille.

Joined for dinner with a party of 16. The was booked a week in advance and given it was a large group, we were only offered a selection from a smaller menu, which is as to be expected. The wait staff were confused, not many knew the menu, the meals arrived in a haphazard fashion with up to 40min difference in times for the main course to arrive for the same table. The food quality varied significantly from marginally above average to really bad, and some servings either returned or not eaten. We arrived at 7pm, and let at 10:30pm to have desert at another location for fear of having to wait another hour and a half for the next course. I would not recommend this establishment

High tea experience. Dined here last Thursday with three other friends as we had heard good things about the newly refurbished restaurant and the high tea they offer every weekday from 12 til 4pm.<br/><br/>The restaurant was reasonably full when we arrived at 1:30pm and we were lead to a booth seating that was private and secluded from other patrons.<br/><br/>Two high tea options are available - the champagne for $48 and the tea only option for $38. The teas were chosen and the food came out about 20mins after ordering. It is nicely presented on a three tier platter with scones, savoury options and sweets adorning the plates. <br/><br/>The scones come as plain and raisin. The plain was crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Butter, jam and cream are on offer and complement it nicely. The raisin scone was bitter tasting and seemed to have dill or some kind of spice mixed in, not very pleasant to taste.<br/> <br/>Sandwiches are a selection of curried egg, salmon and ham, a mini quiche and a mini Vietnamese spring roll. They were delicious and very filling, leaving all of us struggling to finish all of the desserts.<br/><br/>Me personally, preferred the savoury choices to the desserts. The sweets are ok and not as nice as I would have expected. A banana bread, a champagne jelly custard, a macaron, chocolate with lavender and some kind of chocolate mousse. All just ok and you can tell they've been mass produced for hotel dining.<br/><br/>All up, a nice experience. The wait time was a little longer than expected and the staff not as polished as you would imagine for the Duxton (the waiter couldn't remember some of the sandwich fillings) but we all enjoyed it. A good price too compared to other places.

I was so satisfied with the food and service. Me and my friends was seat in this funcy booth, the seats are comfortable. It felt like a closed secret place that was perfect for us to have our little talks. The staffs are prompt to take our orders and give very good recommendation. Menus list maybe a bit short, and there's not much vegi choices. Other than that, I like all the combinations. And I like the bar guy whom I think the name is James. He made specially cocktail for me and I loved it. Would definitely come back again.

For a restaurant charging upper level prices, a wine list with no vintages shown is unacceptable! In addition, having to wait 25mins after ordering for our first drink was another disappointment. Despite this, the food was very good although a little pricy for the dishes served. This bonhomie was spoilt by the unjustified addition of a 1.5% surcharge for payment by Visa Card. Overall, a good meal spoilt by all the other things.

Was invited for hightea at the firewater grille. Interior was modern and lovely, service was attentive, but most of all the hightea exceeded my expectation. Lots of variation for sandwiches and sweets(tarts, merengue etc etc) and the scones was really delicious! Great tea selection too. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and family, and would love to have my second visit!

Made a booking after urban spooning and was really impressed by the waitstaff service and food. Was pricy but we had an enjoyable evening.

Upon arrival we were kindly greeted by a professional and friendly girl. First impressions all looked good and we were seated by the fire and water feature. The food was good but I didn't think it was great. We had some breads and dips with a mango chutney they were nice. For the mains I found it hard to choose something i actually wanted in the end I ordered barramundi in coconut broth it came with mushrooms and snowpeas and my partner ordered scotch fillet with garlic prawns. The waitress was very quiet im not sure if it was a language barrier but she took our order then the friendly front of staff came back a few minutes later and apologized and reconfirmed what we wanted, apparently she was training - all good! I can't put my finger on what was wrong with my main - I don't think anything was - maybe I expected more - I guess it was good, I just felt a bit disappointed - possibly because I didn't really want the fish but ordered it because there was nothing else? I noticed the snowpeas didnt have their tips cut off either - that was the only 'thing' - nothing major. My partner said his steak was really good - he asked for medium rare but I'm pretty sure it was under done it was really pink and there was so much blood but he didn't seem to mind and I was more worried about it the he was (don't like raw steak). The waitress would come over asking for drinks and if everything was alright - then a man would stop by refill drinks and ask the same - some might think attentive staff is good but I thought it was a bit overkill - one waiter yes but not a constant stream one after the other. I have mixed feelings whilst it was good it was an expensive dinner which I thought was just ok - my partner on the other hand would probably say it was a good place to go for a decent steak - however I won't be going back.

Lovely food. We had a lovely dinner here recently. Our food was hot and delicious and it all came within a reasonable time frame. The maitre d' was friendly however the staff were a little lost and confused at times bringing another tables desserts before we had even had our mains. Our main waiter was going through the motions a bit. If I were a guest staying at the Duxton I would like to be made feel a little more welcomed. We would be happy to return.
Callia
Had a lovely dinner here. We ordered a variety of dishes and couldn't fault any of them. The waiter had some trouble hearing us early in the evening but after some other diners left and the noise levels dropped she was fine. The decor was nice and the curved booth made the experience more intimate.

Love it, make sure you try it.. The Duxton's refurbished restaurant is fantastic. Came for a pre-show dinner, and unlike the previous restaurant, "pre-show" means just that.<br/><br/>They made sure we were in-and-out on time, and yet, the service was polite, the experience was just great.<br/><br/>The new decor is lovely, and the food - the most important factor above all - was brilliant.<br/><br/>Will be back, and am looking forward to doing it when we don't have to rush out.

What a disappointment!! We .... What a disappointment!!<br/>We were so looking forward to trying out the "new" restaurant- having purposely waited for them to iron out the problems that always come with a new restaurant I'm starting to think we should have waited longer!!!!!!!<br/>Steak not cooked as ordered, entree not served, drinks not topped up, desserts not offered and staff too busy setting up for next service period to worry about serving us!!!<br/>We won't be back anytime soon and won't be recommending!! Time to lift your game Duxton- what happened to the old professional sharp team you had before?!?! <br/>Disappointed!!!!

Pre concert no-no. Came here for an early meal before Don McLean tonight. What a joke! Forgot my sisters wine, forgot entree, bought out main after an hour wait.<br/>Medium steak was well done, chef cooked another and actually cut off the burnt bit! Fondant potato was actually awful. My sisters chicken breast was very flavoursome but tiny portion.<br/>Forgot to take the missed entree off the bill. But they did ask if they had our details , the same question the ladies in front of us were asked.<br/>Maybe we got the B team.
Petal
Small serves and disappointingly late. Steak was 'cut' to test if it was cooked correctly (we think). Chefs couldn't cook a medium steak. Tiny serve of chicken, although quite tasty, but devoured in minutes as we had to wait almost an hour for our meals. No water top ups. Forgot the entrees. An over-priced, disappointing meal.

On a positive note - it's open Sunday evenings.<br/><br/>The food was ok. But sterile and boring and the same with the atmosphere. <br/><br/>I heard it mentioned that this place was packed out Thursday through sat - but I wouldn't really consider coming here if I had more choice.<br/><br/>Nothing bad about the food or service - just very boring and sterile.
Foodie101
Amazing!. Me and the boyfriend called Wednesday morning to book dinner for that night, upon arrival we were given a prime seat right beside the water wall and fire.<br/>He ordered the emu entree and I had the scallops, both were amazing and came out in a good time, even had the waiter recommend an excellent Shiraz to go with my scotch fillet and my boyfriends rib eye. <br/>Service was amazing, drinks were always attended to with bread being delivered free of charge. <br/>All in all it was an amazing night, with pricing though it will definatly be just a special treat. Will recommend and return!

First Class. Superb service and the best steaks in Perth. The new look is sharp!

Wonderful High Tea. 3 friends and I had High Tea at The Duxton yesterday afternoon and if was wonderful. We had a circular booth/table with lots of room to spread out. The staff were all courteous without being obstrusive, special thanks to Samantha for making us feel so welcome.<br/>I had the gluten free option, 4 different kinds of sandwiches, friand, cookies and 3 assorted sweets. The GF cheesecake was amazing. My friends had 4 different kinds of sandwiches, fruit and plain scones and 5 different sweets. The brownie had one friend in tears it was so good!<br/>We also had sparkling wine - chandon, very moorish and there is a wide selection of teas.<br/>All in all a great way to spend an afternoon, perfect for a group celebrating or just as a treat. The restaurant is very elegant, prices were average for a 5 star hotel.

High Tea. My daughter and I enjoyed a fabulous high tea yesterday at the Firewater Grille. We thoroughly enjoyed the high tea, the scones were beautifully cooked, not doughy and floury, but small and hot out of the oven. The savouries and the pettit patisseries were also delicious. <br/><br/>The service was prompt, but quietly available without being intrusive. Our tea pot was topped up regularly and all in all, it would have to be one of the best high teas we have had in Perth. The 'new look' Firewater Grille is also modern and very elegant. <br/><br/><br/>We look forward to our next high tea at the Firewater Grille<br/><br/><br/>Maria

Great venue, poor quality service with average food which is over priced!!!!!<br/>Disappointed ... after reading other reviews thought would give it a go but out of all our meals nothing was great, service well under par!!! <br/>If you want to survive in the perth trade you will have to lift your game Firewater Grille!!!!

Great lunch. Friday lunch became a long lunch why<br/> The food - Very good food not fancy just well cook and great value.<br/>steaks come with potatoes, broccoli, asparagus and choice of sauce no extra charges, wish other places would do this.<br/>The Service very warm and friendly, Sam the hostess was very good.<br/>The decor- no other perth restaurant can match its decor, the booths are so nice they make want stay and enjoy your time there. And we did!<br/>Thank you firewater grille

Really enjoyed dinner here last night. Great food, great service and pleasant venue. Will retun.

Very disappointed. Read a good critic review and chose it for a special night out with friends. Didn't get drinks for half an hour, wine was warm, entrees nice, mains terrible - only 1 steak out of 5 on table cooked correctly, one cold, all sauces bland, garlic cream sauce like milk, potato side looked days old - didn't have water topped up once until asked towards end of night, service terrible until we complained , then manager did her best to make up for all. Such a shame because the decor is lovely and it obviously has potential to be pretty special restaurant. Unfortunately we won't be back.
ANGRY COFFEE MAN
Not sure if owned by Duxton or not but. I understand it's a buffet for breakfast, but for $40? really? Average food, and much of it was just comprised of supermarket cereals.<br/><br/>Service was generally efficient though/<br/><br/>One thing I will say is that (particularly from the view at night), this restaurant has one of the most outstanding decors I've ever come across. Really beautiful and clean. Sadly, food was a let down.
Justin Bolland
I don't normally take the time to write a review but this was so over priced with below average service that I had to say something! Definitely a nice looking restaurant but everything else fell below my expectations! <br/>Won't be back in a hurry- Although the dessert was lovely so that made it slightly better!

Went last night for dinner- hard to believe this stunning venue was the same place- classy expensive trims n attention to detail Decor - service 100% better considering this team is only new n some new pubs in Perth are still getting their act together! None of this 'your nit my section so your not my customer' rubbish u get else where. Food wise- well I had organise what I would wait to eat next time because wanted all - cannelloni omg amazing - roo yum n got to try the teasing plate to die for! Beautiful menu elegant food to match the venue n their mature professional staff.
Jessica James
Not as good as expected! :(. My partner and I had been wanting to try this new venue out and after finally getting the chance to sat night was bitterly dissapointed! <br/><br/>As other reviews have stated the venue itself is lovely and after walking in we were impressed, the menu is expensive but that's expected in a 5 star establishment but not when food and service dont match up. <br/>My fillet was over cooked and food took forever... Staff were pleasant enough but not really on the ball, I had to ask for another drink, we waited for ages for everything and no one seemed to be in charge. I wasnt asked if everything was ok so I couldn't even pass on my feed back.<br/><br/>I might be back in the future to try again but honestly with so many choices in Perth now days I think I would rather head to Crown or somewhere else.

My husband and I had dinner here this evening. The staff are great and service is perfect. Although the food is 5 star prices with 3.5 star quality. I ordered the 250gram steak medium. It came out the first time well-done but the second steak was ok. The sides are simply potato bake and asparagus, really not exciting at all :( I expected better than potato bake at a restaurant that claims to be 5 star. The restaurant itself is beautiful and very enjoyable plus they have a great wine list. We where first seated in possibly the worst table in the entire venue but asked to change tables to something that was abit nicer as the restaurant was practically empty, it was just strange to be sat there in the first place. Overall abit disappointed!!!

Could be better. Dinner last night, food was very good but service was terrible and our wine arrived well after our entrees.staff do not smile, very dissappointing. lovely decor, like the open kitchen but Duxton needs to lift there game to complete with the other high restaurants.
Suzanne Ellis
I was so looking forward to trying this new restaurant out after hearing all the hype but as other review said I was disappointed!!! The restaurant itself is lovely and menu looks great but not up to what we expected!! <br/>The great service that I had experienced at the old restaurant was no where to be seen- it looks like to the detriment of this new place it was out with the old staff in with the new.. Which was their BIGGEST mistake as that was their BEST asset before!!!<br/>Yes the restaurant was lovely and food was ok, maybe they are still under going teething issues but no one looks happy, they are under staffed and not pleasant. <br/>For the price there are MUCH better establishments to spend your time and money in! Maybe go grab a cocktail and check it out yourself but I think you will agree its not worth the money or effort!! <br/>Disappointing Duxton!!
Sally Smythe
Had dinner there tonight and was so looking forward to it as I had eaten many times at the old restaurant and always had charming service and great food... Have to say was BITTERLY disappointed- DON'T even bother!!!!<br/><br/>The decor is stunning and great concept but that's where it ends!!! Service- dreadful, staff look unhappy, management up tight, food average and pricey (not that I. Would mind if food good!!!) would rather old looking Restaurant with same great atmosphere any day!!!! Disappointing duxton!!!! <br/><br/>Won't be back and will be sharing my experience with friends!!!

Opening night for Firewater Grille, service is charming and efficient. I had the mango cannelloni with Moreton bay bug as an entree, Amazing!!! Flavour balance with a creamy avocado mousse and chilli jam, pickled onions; a perfect combination both flavour and texture! A simple Caesar for my main, again balanced and classic - easy and yum!! Well done guys! Great to be a part of the first night!
Because I Got High Tea
The service was fabulous: we were offered tea the moment we sat down, and the food was brought out quickly (I was starving, and they could probably tell by my hungry crazy eyes). I was fascinated with the teapots, and so felt the need to include a photo of them, because a cool teapot is about as interesting as things get in my life. I could imagine Poirot having one in his fancy little apartment, to indulge his English clienteles love of tea.
F4fitfunfoodfly
We all started with the savouries at the bottom. My colleagues enjoyed the Christmas cheer. The scones and creme brulee. I thought the plain scones were the most delicious items in the food platter. It brought out the flavour of the tea. I enjoyed the scones with cream and strawberry jam. For $40 per person. Nice gentle way to end the afternoon. Good service. Pageful of teas available. We all left feeling warm and comforted from the experience.

Our main rule for our recommendations is NOT to recommend anywhere we wouldn’t tell a friend to go. The Firewater Grille is so border line it could go either way. So I thought I’d write down our thoughts and let you decide

We were unable to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the actual Friday this year, and decided to go out for High Tea on the Sunday after. We were keen to try somewhere new, and headed to the Duxton Hotel. If you’re not familiar with the Duxton, it’s a five-star hotel located in the heart of the Perth CBD. The food has been good there in my past experience, but I haven’t eaten or stayed there for a year or two – my last meal was an artistically arranged corporate breakfast, where one end of the sliver of “toast” was propped on top of a pyramid-shaped potato cake like a ramp. As you can see from the lobby, this is a very elegant establishment. High Tea is available from 12pm to 5pm every day in the Firewater Grille, the Duxton’s main restaurant. The Firewater Grille opened in February 2013 and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner –  it has its own website  here . “Standard” High Tea is $38 per person, and “Sparkling” High Tea with a glass of Chandon Brut NV is $48 per person.
Taste Test - Food.Life
I haven't heard about the high tea at Duxton Hotel before, so didn't really know what to expect and was glad that they served it the traditional way with the three tier stand. The food was pretty good, nothing wow but it was good quality and there was ALOT of food, so much that we couldn't finish it! A shame because I don't like to waste food. There wasn't really anything that stood out from the crowd, but I really enjoyed the chocolate shot because the crunch was actually pop rock candy covered in chocolate; they would crackle in your mouth once the chocolate melted and that made me smile.

The benefit of a work lunch can be twofold – firstly the chance for a temporary sojourn from the daily grind and in some instances also the chance to try somewhere new. Such was the case on a recent work lunch at Firewater Grille, a new addition to the Duxton Hotel. They’ve gone with quite a plush fit out, complete with very impressive water feature. Massively on board with waterfalls in restaurants, I find it a little relaxing to have flowing water so close by. So here we were on a fine week day and it was time for lunch. Quite an interesting menu and I was intrigued by the prospect of structuring a two course Coat of Arms experience. So this meant that my entrĂ©e was to be Seared Emu fillet, Shitake mushrooms, asparagus, ginger plum jam $25 and for my main I would be enjoying Kangaroo loin, fenugreek-pumpkin puree, courgette, rosemary olive jus $38 . Around the table in our group of five there was quite the varied range of choices, from the Kilpatrick oysters to the Confit of ocean tr
