Review Bari-uma - Perth

KS Lok
Good, fast service. Ramen with thick broth and umami flavour. Fried chicken was crispy on the outside but juicy and tender on the inside. A quick and warning alternative to burgers and sandwiches when in Perth City. 1.5% surcharge for paying with credit card. Toilet was spacious and clean.

The soup in here is very thick, really thick. 2 people spend 52$, the restaurant is nice and clean. Decorations very special. Staff are friendly. Good location in cbd. Karaage chicken is tender and juicy.

I walked past many times and finally got to eat. I came over at 2 pm on a weekday. You have to wait in front of the restaurant for a staff member to come and see you. After the staff brings you to the table with the menu, you choose the food you want to eat and walk to the counter to order food and come back to sit and wait for the food at the table. I don’t wait for my food long. Tasty ramen, there is the right amount. The noodles are not soft, but not hard. Gyoza is delicious but a bit bland. Overall, I think this restaurant is delicious. I also ordered pork chashu rice to take home.

I had just finished studying at the Perth Library and was hungry and ready for something to eat. When i entered the venue there was such a home like feeling and such a positive energy. I ordered the Kara Uma and it took no longer that 5 minuets to be served. It was freshly made and still warm. I love this place and give it a 5star rating!!

Been in Perth for the past few days and sick of eating burgers and sandwiches… Chance upon this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised that it’s so good and tasty. Ramen broth is thick and not too salty. Full of umami. Eel rice is definitely grilled to perfection. Free flow of ocha. Inexpensive pricing. Do hear in mind there’s a 1.5% surcharge for credit card payment. Clean and homely toilets as well. So comforting to eat such tasty ramen in winter 💕

It was quite crowded with a long queue but probably due to WA day (most cafes & restaurants aren't open). Waiting time was like 10mins. Ramen was abit soft for me. Egg wasn't peeled well & is not flavoured egg. Spicy broth was good. Karaage was very hot & crispy! We love it! The cheese clay pot rice was good too. Portion is just nice for above 10yr kid (thou it's regular size). Note: Payment by CASH. There's a surcharge of 1.5% if you pay by credit card.

The broth is thick and porky but not overpowering. The chashu is unfortunately a bit dry n tough. The diced chashu on the hand melts in your mouth and is very flavourful. The kaarage is the stand out light and crispy batter with a strong hint of ginger.

Back for dinner last evening with couple of friends and they loved the food and friendly service. I must say that its still the best ramen place in Perth! Must have the yummy Goyza and cripsy Karaage! Will be back again for more soon.

Had a high expectation as i always seen the queue whenever i walked past. Then i ordered the ramen. Nothing special about it. Broth is very basic and you can taste the msg (not impressed). For the service itself i’ll give one rating. The staffs are not friendly and i asked for tap water and fork but never get it.
Won’t be back again.

Cheap quality ramen and side dishes. The tonkotsu is too thin and mostly flavoured with msg, chashu was dry and bland, egg was poorly marinated, bamboo shoots were cheap quality (most likely pre-cut packaged), noodles lack texture.

Gyoza filling was okay, but skin was store bought so resulted in a thick chewy texture.

Karaage was the worst, large quantity over but no quality.. thick batter which was soggy, marinade was flavourless, dipping sauce was pointless as it did not compliment at all.

What's the points of having so many dishes on the menu when they can't get the basics right. Not an authentic japanese ramen restaurant and it's so expensive.

A friendly ramen restaurant in Perth city. The food itself is pretty standard for a Japanese restaurant, with the chicken-based ramen a novelty where most ramen places tend to provide exclusively pork-based toppings. I enjoyed the gyoza more than the ramen, so I can understand why this might be a popular place for city workers to visit for lunch.

Great hearty ramen, staff are always friendly

Best spicy ramen & goyza's I've tasted.

Often buzzing Bari-Uma opens earlier at 5pm than the surrounding restaurants for dinner. It requires this advantage.

Once seated inside, remember that ordering is done by queuing up at the front so you don't dine & dash. Ramen and orders are reasonably priced although the quality is on the lower end of town.

Salt. Everything is salty. The ramen broth, the gyoza filling, the clay-pot rice. More so than one would expect and makes one wonder if the chefs taste (or are able to taste) their produce. The chicken ramen & onion broth was overly salted, as was the small chicken mini-drums. The meat however, was tender and fell off the bone. Clay-Pot rice was hot and sizzling, with generous chunks of fatty roast pork throughout. Though, at the bottom, the overly generous drizzle of teriyaki soy meant it was again, overly salty to taste. Gyoza. Oily with small bite of overly salted filling. You get the idea.

It's quick and simple. But with good ramen places only a short walk away, I'd suggest there are better alternatives in Perth CBD.
YumMe
🍜 decent time 🥟

Have tried this one out a few times. Ramen is good and you can see into the kitchen where they make it on site. Broth is a thicker style tonkatsu which I like but dining pal not as big a fan. I agree with other reviews about something lacking with the depth of broth, it’s ok but not rave worthy.

Chasu nicely grilled, unfortunately they don’t seem to offer a choice of noodle hardness when you order, however on the menu it does offer it if you order an extra portion of noodles so might be an oversight, I prefer a firm noodle and these came served softer than I like.

You do have to pay for tea here, which is free other places.

We also got the goyza and some of the best I’ve had, juicy and flavoursome and dipping sauce on the table so you don’t run out, and not too salty either.

Location is convenient to get to, ambience inside is brightly lit and more a fast service style than dining. Suitable for quick eats.

I would come back if a friend was keen, there are other ramen places I like the broth better but if I came back I’m definitely ordering the goyza.

Nothing really wows me about this place. The broth is not as flavoursome compared to other ramen joints. Also when adding in extras ie eggs, meat the total cost for a bowl of noodles can be quite expensive

I like the ambiance of this place and the warm greetings from the staff. It was busy during lunch time but good thing the place was quite big so we didnt have to wait too long. I ordered the Bari-Uma ramen and karaage. The ramen wasnt too bad; the broth was tasty but i feel like the flavour was missing something. The karaage also tasted average. But all in all it wasnt too bad, i would actually go back to this place again for ramen.

Way better than Nao which is cheaper but once you add what you like it is the same price as Bari-Uma anyway! The only comment is the portion is small and ramen should fill you up!
Other a good ramen lunch and will be back!

I had the spicy pork ramen. It looked very nice but on first bite I knew it’s not at the same level as hakata gentsuke or ippudo. There was just not enough flavour. There’s hardly any seasoning in my soup. At 17.90 it’s also bordering on the expensive side for the serving size.

The karaage was just ok. Really bot much to say about it except for charging $1 just for some chilli sauce. Prob 2.5 stars

Ramen is at the standard for most ramen places. I wouldn’t say any better than average but it certainly satisfies ramen cravings. I usually get the original tonkotsu or spicy one. Broth is creamy with some depth of flavour. Noodles are pretty standard. Chashu is inconsistent, sometimes good, sometimes a bit dry. I do like the thick cut and slight char. Gyoza is great, crispy, juicy, well seasoned. Rice is a little inconsistent. Karaage chicken is okay, nothing to come back for. Friendly and succinct customer service.

We came here for lunch on a weekday. Although their ramen is not the best that I had tried but nonetheless it was still quite tasty. Service was friendly and quick.

Another international chain. Dunno...the tonkotsu didn’t do it for me. Didn’t taste like the pork tonkotsu I’ve had before. Lacking in salt i think. Chasu was ok and was aburi style. Didn’t enjoy the broth.

Have frequented this establishment 5 or 6 times since opening day and this place drives me nuts.

They advertise themselves as having the strongest flavoured broth, but you can get stronger flavours in Perth. (Keisuke). Furthermore, their tonkotsu ramen is maddeningly inconsistent. I've had rough chashu, cold chashu, bland chashu. It's really a bit of a gamble.

However, where they really nail it is their spicy chicken ramen and their chicken ramen. Never had a poor chicken ramen from them yet. Should totally be their speciality. The karaage bites are also pretty good :)

Hope they improve on their tonkotsu offerings.

Over rated noodle place.

Nothing to WoW about this place. An average noodle shop gone popular with its pretty average noodle.

Probably good in Japan but this shop itself is just worth 5 out of 10..................

We tried Bari-Uma on Labour Day. We didnt expect they surcharged 20% on public holiday, WOW... We ordered the original, spicy (2 chilies) ramen and gyoza. The broth were quite thick to my liking, although not as thick as Keisuke Ramen King. I liked that their char siu is thicker than other places. Both of us prefer original than spicy. The spicy version I think got sechuan/mala, which gave numbing effect. Nothing wow about the gyoza, a bit bland, you have to eat it with the sauce provided on table. They had many staffs on that day, overall service was okay. Would I go back again? Not too soon...

So happy with my chicken ramen !! Possibly the best ramen I've had in Perth. They used chicken wings instead of just chicken pieces. It's so tender it falls off the bone.

The rice dish and the karaage that we ordered were also excellent. Also worth noting that their portion is perfect. First time I've had ramen without feeling bloated / so full that I felt sick afterwards.

Definitely coming back again.

Lunch today @bariuma_au on Barrack Street Perth. We had the Kara-Tama-Uma, Nori-Tama-Uma and five pieces of gyoza. Delicious bowls of ramen was had. Love that they have a selection food with some spice in them (though they aren’t spicy for me). The ramen was a good size for me. The gyoza was delicious. Love the crispy layer of skin and the juiciness of the gyoza inside. Definitely coming back for more.
Came here to try out the ramen, had ajitama and kara tama uma. The ramen was actually quite nice, the broth was thick, creamy and yummy but there was a problem... it was not as flavourful as it looked. It had strong aroma of pork broth and the right consistency but for some reason it is lacking flavour. The chili one was definitely better, as it enhances the pork broth flavour. But I can't justify paying extra 2$ for the exact same ramen except with added chilli. Anyways it didnt suit my taste but I can understand that this kind of flavour suits the taste of people in general. Though the biggest plus is the thickness of the chasiu, and it tasted very good. Would like to try other menu next time we come here.

Review update: came here a second time and ordered the kama tama uma and I have to give new rating as this time the broth was actually thick and tasty! Egg was way better too, gooey and soft on the inside. This time i feel that the price is fair. Actually was pleased and had to add another star.

Ordered spicy pork Japanese clay pot and it was ok, pretty standard. Wouldn’t order the same dish again as the taste is nothing different in particular. Presentable restaurant and nice staff

Just went here today for lunch. I ordered a karaage chicken and when I took a bite into it, I realised that the middle wasn't cooked. I politely told the staff "I think it's not fully cooked" but she instantly told me that it's cooked with a very annoyed manner but I said it is kind of clear in the middle and I feel that it is not cooked. She took it back to the kitchen and the staff also was very annoyed and argued that it is cooked. Although IT WAS CLEAR. and without apologising, she took it away and said she will just change it for me. I think that this type of service isn't quite acceptable as I was politely telling them without being aggressive but in reply I got this type of answer.

Hands down, this is my favorite ramen place in Perth! I love the thick broth and i especially love the thick-cut chasu!! They are awesome!!! The broth is much thicker compared to other ramen joints yet not too thick to make you bloated, and it contains flavour so rich you can want to lick the bowl empty! And seriously, i don’t mind paying the hefty price of $19.90 for their Chasu-uma just to get extra 3 pieces of their yummy grilled thick-cut chasu! Although, a dollar or two cheaper would be appreciated.

Felt like ramen two days in a row and walked in here. Was a busy spot but the staff tried to keep up with the demand. Ordered a bowl of ramen and some spicy karage chicken on the side. The lady serving me however was extremely rude especially when I asked her for servettes or a spoon to go with my ramen or some hot water ....
I really enjoyed the food but would be hesitant to go back due to the service.

Ramen is not bad, strong tasting soup. Char shu is thick and chunky not the melt in your mouth like the typical ramen. Had clay pot char shu rice wasn’t really to my liking. Karrage was good with tartare kind of sauce. They were out of gyozas! What kind of ramen store would have no gyozas to go with the ramen. Service wasn’t that great. Basically it’s a self serve joint. The waitress at the door lacked customer service. Wanted me and my kids to stand outside to wait when it was cold and windy. And before we even finish our soup she was going to clear the bowl. Won’t be back again. Prefer Ippudo down the road, more selection.

New ramen place in city. Need to queue each time. But it is very nice. Soup is very thick and nice. Staff and service are good. Self service for drink and order and pay at counter before you eat.

New ramen restaurant in perth city. We ordered the ajitama uma that has pork, shoyu egg and some bamboo shoots and tori ajitama uma which is a chicken flavoured soup with ginger marinated drumstick. The ajitama uma roast pork is worth highlighting, it was tender and flavourful but all the other ingredients were pretty average. Flipped through the little swing menu on our table and came across tips on how to spot a fake ramen chain.

Ordered their signature ramen very tasty broth, lovely fresh noodles definitely worth the wait.cons felt a little heavy from the thick broth, a little pricey for a small standard bowl but the quality is there.

We walked past this place and saw a heaving cue outside, of course we HAD to go in.
We finally got a table and sat down to order service was friendly and efficient.
We ordered the spicy and the miso Ramen both were really good with house made wheat noodles, the chashu was tasty with a firm chewy texture, the egg was cooked perfectly and soft in the inside.
Fried karaage was crispy and succulent, the batter had good colour and flavour.
Stand out star was the gyoza! Awesome wrappers with a lovely ginger flavour, it was a nice surprise.
Overall great little place, I like that they make effort with their side dishes as well as the Ramen.
