Review Chilli Panda - Perth

Lydia G
We had various dish, even the ones assigned with one chili were quite spicy. Some of us couldn't eat the food. Chicken was cut in slices with bones, what is not really nice. The order paper has no single English word on it. Staff looked very annoyed. But beef and pork were delicious. Average $14.80. Was ok for one time, but not again.

Our favourite place to have Yunan dishes. Big menu with both spicy and non spicy dishes. Attentive staffs, huge portion and fair prices. Would definitely go back!

Friendly but busy staff. Niice food but a bit too greasy. Spicy not too much, good for non 湖南 people.

Well nice food Also order beef cooked in oyster oil with rice , we love it , sorry forgot to take a photo But the noodle in peanut sauce is way too dry and that’s the only food we don’t like it .

Unbelievable, I went there several times, long long waiting, we waited half hour to get the first dish, and finish the first dish still waiting half hour, still waiting. Unfriendly staff as well
Stephanie Tan
good food overall although some dishes can take long to arrive. most of the kitchen staff do not wear masks and outside staff don’t wear masks properly which is a huge danger to everyone. however staff are nice with great manners

Friendly attentive staff, very helpful and patient with us changing from dine in to take away back to dine in etc .. Additionally -- neither customers or staff seemed bothered by the spluttering, watering eyes and mucus dripping nose of a big nosed white freak like me. I can only imagine how painful it would be to observe watching their beloved food be desecrated in such an unholy show of defilement -- they even provided take away containers! Would recommend

They didn’t lie about chilli. Loved it would go again. 🌶🌶🌶

Ordered take away at 4:51pm online, said estimate pick up time is 5:26pm. Went to the restaurant at 5:30pm told me to wait. I been sit there for another half hour till 6:04pm and still havent got my food!!Everyone came after me got their food and gone!I asked for refund at 6pm, the boy said i check the order for you again and then he run away and never come back to the counter!!No apologies from any of the staffs. Keep asking me to wait for no reason!! Ridiculous and unprofessional staff! Will never come back again!

Delicious food especially Cumin Beef, fried Rice, & the cabbage dish was to die for. Loved the warehouse setting. Will definitely go back

It's great to eat at a Chinese restaurant that serves food that isn't Cantonese in influence. I particularly enjoy the different spice combinations that embody Hunanese flavours - plenty of chilli, without overpowering the other ingredients, and the Cumin Beef in particular. My only disappointment is that the Mao's Braised Pork was sold out by the time we arrived at 7.30pm on a Saturday; this only means we have to go back.

Soooo much good food...Chinese smoked ham; Chilli duck fry; Cumin pork ribs ; and Salted fried rice with blackbeans.... yummmmm....huge servings, beautiful venue. Only drawback was the food was a lil too oily but my mate advised it was quite traditional for this style of food. I.d happily return :)

Great Food, fast service, relaxed atmosphere. BYO. would highly recommend.

great food, great night highly recommend look forward to more chilli

Excellent food and modern, trendy restaurant with friendly service. We really enjoyed our lunch. But beware, it is called Chilli Panda and there are lots of chillies 🌶 indeed! The right choice if you like it hot.

Visitor to Perth. This Restaurant was highly recommended. Really lovely food. Loved it. Will definitely return on our next visit to WA.

If you love eating spicy food, you won’t be disappointed.

FANTASTIC Yunnan-style Chinese food, prompt service, BYOB; if I lived in Perth, I'd be back for sure!

If you are looking for a touch of spice in your life, then you should look no further than Chilli Panda, in Newcastle Street, the home in Perth of the spicy cuisine of Hunan – the birthplace of Chairman Mao, and particularly well known for the extensive use of chill, garlic and shallots. It has a spare fit out – untreated concrete walls, adorned with stylised Chinese prints, wooden screens with meld mesh inserts, and polished concrete floors.

Like what the name of the restaurant suggest, the food here is plenty o spicy! So u have been warned! But don’t be scared, you can adjust the level of spiciness and of course they do sell some non-spicy items. Despite not good at handling super spicy food (i ordered lower level of spiciness of course) the food here is really good! i even enjoyed their brusselsprout! There is plenty to enjoy here. I also like the ambiance, the large table, the large space - you totally would not expect this as the store might seem to be small from the outside!

The food at Chilli Panda is so wonderfully, awesomely, ring-of-fire spicy that it keeps you going back for more. My faves are the hunan style cold noodles, stirfried green beans with dry chilli, stirfried pork with chilli and fried egg, and the salted fish black bean fried rice. As I write this, my mouth has started watering.
The reason they're not getting five stars is because it's always so cold in there (even while your mouth is burning so good), and the hotpot chicken I ordered last time I visited was so tough, so dry and so awful.
Guomengdie123
The fir chicken is the best ever, so tender. If you like pork instestines, this is only place you need to try in Perth. Fantastic cauliflower with dry chilli. You will need to find the restaurant very carefully, the sign is too small, easy miss.

It should be the most delicious Chinese restaurant in western Australia. After ordering the spareribs bean skin pot, the taste is very authentic and rich. What a surprise!

It wasnt crowded when I was here. Restaurant is pretty spacious with plenty of seats available. Ordered the stir fried pork with chilli and it also comes with chinese vege and cabbage. Pork was tender and flavourful but it was exceptionally oily. A thick layer of oil soaked the bottom part of the rice and I just couldnt eat it. I would still come back for the food but will have to tell the staff to minimise oil in all the dishes.

My Chinese friend told me that this is one of the best authentic chinese (Szechuan) food in Perth.

And I wasn't disappointed by the food and the service.

The price was reasonable yet the portion was adequate.

The food is strong in pepper and cumin hence it maybe too much for some people.

Will I come back here? Definitely

Chilli panda's food is much similar to the Hunan cuisine, the food is real spicy but also the most delicious food to the chili lover!!!!!!!!

Tasty and authentic Chinese Szechuan food. The dishes they serve are usually oily and spicy, if you are seeking something healthy (less oil, light, gluten free etc.) this restaurant might not be your best option.

Disclaimer: I ate here as part of a food tour so the a la carte might be of better quality.

I found the food here to be really oily and sweet. Perhaps this is consistent with the region the chefs are from but it certainly did not sit well with me.

The fried rice was a real disappointment. However the meat stir fries tended to be tender and flavourful. I do think the dishes appeared quite carelessly put together however.

The decor was nice but the open plan kitchen meant I was choking on fumes and smelt like a wok at the end of the meal. I'm not sure I'd return based on this experience.

The chilli wasn't too hot and the flavors were very good. However the pork ribs and the chicken pieces were cut in tiny pieces and also full of bones and skin. It also felt pretty expensive compared to other places / given the quality.

Hunan cuisine is distinguished by its hot and spicy flavours 🔥, with common cooking techniques include stewing, frying, pot-roasting, braising and smoking. Known for its liberal use of chilli, capsicum, shallots and garlic, Hunan cuisine is rather dry-spicy, as often compared to Sichuan cuisine, which is more numbing-spicy. At Chilli Panda 🌶🐼 you can indulge in a taste of Hunan feast knowing that (most of) it won't blow your heads off.

We enjoyed the flavour of those fried pork ribs 🍖 way too much, even though the pieces were chopped up rather small, so it might look like you were eating scraps at times. Having said that, almost every piece contained cartilage, which was lovely and that's when we knew they weren't just "scraps". The plate was loaded with spring onion, red onion, dried chilli, fresh chilli, garlic, and lots of cumin. Maybe a little too generous with cumin but it tasted so bomb 💣 we didn't care.

Chicken feet 🐓 were nicely marinated and braised, leaving the meat super tender and skin slipped off the bones easily. Beef and ox tongue 🐄🐃 tasted great, although there was (more than) enough garlic in there to keep you date-less for a week. The thicker beef pieces had an intriguing jerky-like smokiness and it was indeed very different from the Sichuan version that I was more acquainted to.

I really like coming here for dinner. They have a generous menu and the food is always flavourful. The beef is tender and the portions are decent. There are a few non spicy options available making it suitable for those who can't handle the spice as well. The decor is unique with it's picnic tables and industrial style open kitchen. The smells remind me of the food in China.

Went to this restaurant with my mate, we all quite satisfied for the food. If u like spicy food, this is the place for you. Good atmosphere and delicious food.

Came here to use a $25 for $50 worth of food Groupon deal. The food here did not disappoint me and I’m not sure why the ratings are so low. I really like spicy food so I was looking forward to this place. We got three dishes between two, the famous steamed chicken and chilli sauce aka saliva chicken, stir fried green beans with minced pork and pan fried potatoes with pork. Chicken was tender and the sauce gave it a nice spicy kick - really liked this dish. I liked the green beans with chilli as it was stir fried well but it felt quite greasy and salty after a while. Same with the pan fried potatoes, they were very tasty but the dish was oily in general. Food was served extremely quickly within 5 min. The deal made it really worth it and I’m considering buying another deal to go back again. Worth a try if you love spicy Chinese food.

Food was ok. the place looks nice. but will never go back. staff wasn't that friendly. they pretend like its a charity place and we eat free. if you like spicy food its the place. they need to improve the customer service.

Was here last night for a casual evening, conversations and some Asian food. This place did not fail to impress.

The ambience is casual. The food is delicious and the seating, comfortable. It looks like a tiny place that's easy to miss from the front but we were impressed with how massive the place was once you entered the restaurant. We had the crispy fish, beans and pork mince and the pork ribs.. All dishes were yummy.. The service needs some improvement cos it took a while to get the attention of a staff to place an order.

Will definitely come back to this place again!

Food here is really spicy but quite good if you like spicy food. Service is a bit slow and prices were quite high. Serving size was good. Used a voucher so worked out to be a reasonable price.

We really enjoyed the spicy food here! Authentic high quality food. Great to have a different cuisine in Perth. Will definitely recommend friends and come back again for a meal.

Very good authentic hunannese food with friendly service. A refreshing change to the typical szechuan cuisine that i usually go for. Would return for sure to try out other dishes.

Genuin Chinese Hunan food, so yummy! Enjoy the spicy and full of flavours. Beautiful design and good environment. Enjoy the time with friends

Funky deco, great food and great service! Tried the braised beef and the stewed tripe with pickle radish. Love the stewed tripe, can’t stop eating it! Highly recommend this restaurant to all chilli lovers!

Really enjoyed the meal today!!! The food is amazing, If you like spicy food, this restaurant should be your good choice😊 I want to try other dishes next time😁

I found about 5 hairs in my noodle soup. Disgusting, was not offered a refund or anything. Service and food was okay, however i would not recommend.
Ooo
I like the deco of the place, the food are very authentic hu nan Chinese food, the only thing I wanna say is the waiter didn't provide a very good service. He didn't appologize for not having one pork dish on the menu when ordering, only mentioned when we were waiting for food.

Had a wonderful meal tonight at chilli panda! The goat hotpot was absolutely perfect for a cold and rainy night. Sweet and sour pork ribs, spicy cumin beef and green beans with pork mince were outstanding too! Dishes weren't overly spicy, very authentic and throughly enjoyable :) great service and ambiance too! Do yourself a favor and visit this place! Highly recommended!

Amazing Chinese food!! We had the steamed pork mince which was infused with lychees and plums - absolutely delicious. We also had the cabbage in vinegar, the special fried rice and the steamed eggs. I can't tolerate spicy food and despite the chilli in some dishes, I didn't find it over powering. The tastes were so authentic and I loved every bite! Thanks for a great food experience !!

SCAM ALERT! I bought a scoopon deal based on their lunch menu, which was linked. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was told this "old menu" was no longer valid and I was presented with a "new menu". The prices on the new menu were TWICE what they had been previously. We could not even order two mains for our $40 voucher. I complained about that and said I will complain to scoopon but they didn't care. I walked out. Update: Scoopon refunded the voucher

Went tonight to Chilli Panda on Newcastle Street in Northbridge. This has a great atmosphere and has been set up for large group or family meals - not a single two seater in there. We tried the pork belly, the stir fried beef and the stir fried cauliflower. For me, the meals were a bit too spicy to be enjoyable - but I'm working on building up my tolerance - though not as spicy as Szechwan. My BF however LOVED the level of spice and the beef was so tender!

Nice authentic Chinese food! Lots of the dishes are slightly spicy but not overwhelming to my taste. Cumin beef and green beans are my favourites!

The best chilly Chinese food in Perth! a new restaurant, so it is relatively clean. I came from Hunan province,China. The food here is exactly the same with hometown! Must try these if you love spicy Chinese food.

If you like spicy Chinese food without numbing szechuan pepper flavour hunan Chinese is the way forwards. Here you get straight chilli flavours with a dash of cumin.

We loved the bamboo industrial ambience the yummy cumin beef, chilli squid stir fry and steamed rice. Service was fabulous.

I was curious to try Chilli Panda after reading the review by The Sunday Times and also hearing about this place from my colleagues. It was nice and quiet when we arrived. The lovely waitress recommended the Spicy Cumin Beef and the Spicy Cauliflower. My darling liked the cumin beef but the cauliflower was too spicy for him. He is such a woose. I find the dishes reasonably good and the portions huge. My only gripe is that they are a bit oily. But I heard Hunan cuisine is like that. I love the deco! Finally, Chinese restaurants no longer look tired and dowdy.

Dinning at Chilli Panda is a young Chinese ambition for Chillies.

The deco is like your camp site with wooden long table and long bench. The decoration of the place is refreshing.

We ordered the one of the cold dish, preserved egg cook chilli with vinegar and garlic.

As for hot dishes or mains we ordered the smoked beef with coriander and diced chicken in claypot with chillies.

The dishes are infused with chilli and chilli everywhere I can see. It was spicy but it’s not overly spicy until you can’t taste the food. I will strongly recommend the smoked beef with coriander. As for the diced chicken in claypot with chillies it was good but I prefer the chicken is boneless instead of bits of the bones in the chicken.

I would return and try other dishes that they have on offer.

As a Chonqinger, I gave this place my highly recommendation. Interior design is outstanding, plates and bowls are out of the ordinary. Mushroom meatball soup and double fried pork belly are really authentic. I guess the chief is from Sichuan with his spicy temper. Maybe be more patient to waiters? The dish is really hot, maybe provide the waiters some plastic plates to put the dish on?
Over all, it's a surprise to find such a good Sichuan style restaurant in Perth.

New funky restaurant in the already crowded eatery precinct of Newcastle street.
Funky music in a modern seating. Food is hot! So not one for those that can't handle chilli!

Friendly, clean and spacious, not your average Chinese joint. We had the cheese okonomiyaki, duck curry with lychees, and squid tentacles. All were delicious! I drank the sake tasting - nice idea for something more novel. Will be back!

Absolutely love this place. Its handy its so close to our office. We ordered food with a lot of chilli but it wasn't too spicy. Don't be put off by the chilli. The flavours were excellent and its so nice to be able to order some different dishes at a Chinese restaurant in Northbridge. So many restaurants pretty much have the same menu! Will be back many times!

Love love love this place!! I've been here twice now. The decor is not your stereotypical Chinese restaurant, it's modern, clean and friendly. The first visit we ordered the sweet & sour pork spare ribs, the fried salted grouper & the stir fried beans w/ pork mince. Amazing!! We enjoyed all 3. The pork spare ribs were not as glutinous and sticky compared to other restaurants. Very fresh. The beans were delicious & freshly made! And the fish had a beautiful flavour. The owner is also a sweet young lady and remembered me the second time around. Would definitely recommend! I will be coming back again & again.

I really love the design of the Resturaut ! Definitely an upgrade comparing with other Chinese restaurant out there in Perth . 5 stars for their effort on the design !! However I would say the food is way too spicy for majority of the customers. I understand that's their speciality and authentic flavour, but will really be good if they have options like " mild, normal , extra hot" to choose from.

omg. wow. this place doesn't look or feel like a Chinese restaurant at all 👲🏽㊙️㊗️ love the interior style so much ! industrial vibes with bursts of colour 👌🏻 not only is the interior amazing but so is the food. as the name suggests, the food is super spicy, even more than kong fu kitchen down the street. the staff didn't ask how spicy we wanted our food, so beware if you don't like food too spicy, you should let them know. we ordered 2 bowls of noodles, a pork and egg one and a beef stew noodles. both were really yummy. also had a milk tea. definitely new favourite Chinese restaurant 💯💯
