Review Wok St Chow House - Perth

Bernadette Woodhouse
I want to go back here!!! The food is so yummy! I love everything we ordered. Duck curry. Soft shell crab. Pad thai. Coconut custard with dark choc sauce. Went there for dinner and it was a bit dim - it was little romantic actually to my surprise.

Was expecting a good taste and it was so much more. Warm and friendly service, very authentic taste and the key ingredient - it was spicy enough! First time here and the soft shell crab is fantastic. Can't wait for next time to try something else. Note that it's best to come in a small group. Servings are mostly meant to share so small group of three to four people would fit perfectly as that means more dishes can be ordered to try.

First if all get the pork belly it is the best thing I have ever tasted and I think nothing can top it off. But if you bring your kids there, the food is pretty spicy but it is all worth it in the end nit to mention they have over 100 alcoholic drinks you can choose. The service is really nice I have been there twice and I haven't had a problem with them. My son has a sesame allergy so they scrubbed the work just for us.

Good drinks, entree (ribs) was great but the massaman curry had as much flavour as a piece of cardboard and the service was pretty average. Definitely better options around.

Decent specials, however the general menu is a little expensive for what it is. Staff are casual but attentive, and there is a decent selection of the good stuff to keep you going.
Rob Edwards
Great range of gin. Catered for our large table with an amazing array of food with excellent service.

Good stop for a late night spicy feed before heading home. Word well as an alternative to a kebab

Very relaxing place to dine in, their curries are worth the try!

Having heard many great reviews from both friends and online, I was excited to finally dine here!

The interior is beautiful, cozy and warm, as you walk in you're confronted by the kitchen right in front of you. The smell of amazing asian cuisine hits your senses and you're drooling before you're even seated.

The drinks list is a great combination of everything affordable and value. The food however didn't quiet live up to the expectation of Asian cuisine. The pad Thai ordered was dry and tasteless, the vegetarian dish was just soaking in its own puddle, and the beef kuai teo was so oily it became hard to finish after a few bites. The staff were great, but also a little slow... understandable since it was mildly busy.

Also note, they don't do split billing!
It was a decent dining experience, but would probably not revisit any time soon.

Excellent service and the waitress had very good knowledge of the menu. No regrets following her recommendations. Nice food for a good price.

If you like paying 35 bucks for boiled lettuce with undercooked chicken, being given attitude by some tattoo sleeved and neck tattooed hipster when politely asking where we could order drinks, and having food all arrive at different times definitely come here. Otherwise get your ass to literally any other restaurant in northbridge for better food value and service.
Only reason I gave this 1.5 instead of 0 is because the 30 dollar cocktails were nice.

Love it all. I could eat the coconut rice as a meal on it's own, it's that good. Most of the curries blow my mind! I just can't wrap my head around the REVOLTING green bamboo dip used for the crackle. I can't even describe it as bad. It just tastes like puréed wet cardboard. Does everyone else this this?

Went to Wok St Chow House for an end-of-year work lunch. Dishes were pre-ordered and brought to the tables over a period of an hour or two and we all shared.

Most memorable morsels: the pork crackling was perfect, (though, I would not recommend cracking into it during a lull in conversation as it pops loudly!); pork with some five spice seasoning was really tasty and cooked well; the piéce de resistance was definitely the peanut parfait with salted caramel sauce.

The atmosphere and decor are fantastic, though some type of air cooling on the back deck would be great. Service was good and unobtrusive.

The weekly specials add a full 1 point to my score. Why? Because it's the only time you can eat here for roughly the right price. The normal menu entree dishes are far too overpriced for the flavour and portion size. Mains are good, creative, fresh, but still under sized. Inside is well designed and staff mostly are friendly but some tension needs to be relaxed in one in particular.

Food is bland. Its decor is nice and service is great but the food is very very bland. Such a shame as i had high hopes for this place but very disappointed.

I have come several times to their special nights.Green curry and rice on Tuesdays for $10 and Pad thai Wednesdays for $10 BOTH ARE SO SO SO GOOD. Can not fault! It is a must try.I haven't had their regular menu yet but will definitely be coming back with friends to try! good work guys!

Really great atmosphere, food and service. Our waitress was very observant and friendly without being overbearing. We all ordered Pad Thai and it was delish. Will definitely return. Also they serve free sparkling water!

Im just whinging: We just walked in tonight and sit down at wok st chow house in northbridge. After waiting for 5 mins and the waitress seemed to ignore us, so i came and ask for a menu. The blonde waitress coldly said: "in this restaurant we seat people". I said im sorry i didnt see you and i thought we can just sit down. she said "if you dont like it your welcome to leave". I couldnt believe my ear. So we were upset and walked out, as we walked out she cursed. I turned around, confronted her, and she denined it. As we walked out she even shout out "do not come back EVER. i dont care who she is but i cant believe this kind of attitude is tollerated in that restaurant. Its a shame we never gonna have a chance to try the food here. Never come a arcross a ruder wait person. Ruined my night!!!
Overall a great meal full of vibrant, fiery flavours that are balanced nicely by a nursery of assorted fresh lettuces and tangy pickled chillies. Although I was sceptical in trying this restaurant (as I was under the impression it was highly commercialised), the modernised, reinvented oriental atmosphere and friendly staff turned this perspective around. Although definitely not authentic Thai, I’d definitely recommend Wok St. for anyone pining for a delicious, refreshing meal and a great night out.

Had a fantastic night here last night. The food and cocktails are beautiful! The staff are very welcoming and efficient, with good recommendations. I particularly loved the funky music 😋 My friend and I were so comfortable we stuck around a lot longer than intended.
Definitely try the whole fried fish and the kai lan greens- so flavoursome!

Tried the "feed me" menu and portions were generous. Mains were the highlight and decent cocktails. Good for a late night feed or pre-theatre dining.

This place is the mutt's nuts. Highly recommend, will definitely return. 5 star service - helpful, attentive, flexible. Great fit out and ambience. Impressive looking cocktails which I plan to try next time. We went for the Chef's Selection ($55 p/p) and amazingly we were able to request the dishes it consisted of. Great levels of spiciness although I think we only got to 3 chillies and one of the dishes has 6 chillies!! 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 The one minor downside was the dessert we chose (black rice caramel slice) needed to come with more banana to break up the incredibly rich and tasty caramel. See you soon WSCH!

Service was great here, very friendly and helpful and has a great atmosphere. Inside it is quite dark and brooding with a neon panda light illuminating the room. We went for the laksa with plenty of fresh bean sprouts which is a bargain on a Thursday night and accompanied them with crispy tasty flat rotis. That night it was pouring down so it was relatively quiet but I felt really comfortable to be hanging out there over drinks and laksa despite it being so quiet. Even on busier days it's a fun place to go.

Delicious food, great ambiance and service. Loved the char kuey teow (sp?) and chicken wings! Roti is also great to dip into the sauces. Will be back

Just so yum !!! We had a lot of the fiery food options which were so tasty and my friend had a Tanqueray Gin cocktail which she said was delish! Would return for sure

Came here once when it was Darlings and was a bit underwhelmed with the bland flavours. Rocked in here last night. Wow. Punch, spicy flavours and huge serves. Service was excellent from our waitress and the food came out super quick. Fit out is excellent, but the toilets could do with a bit of a spruce up. My only gripe would be a lack of small plates. I think its a bit of an oversight given the way casual dining is these days. Worth a visit.

Tasty fare, especially if you like it spicy! I like the duck dishes the most, and how the menu changes depending on what's in season (or on whim?). I hope they last longer than the predecessors!

Average and pretty uninspiring. Certainly not the same calibre as its predecessor., Darlings Supper Club, either in quality or vibe. Pretty basic Thai food in a remarkable location.

Its in a nice little spot and sitting outside watching people of all sorts can be entertaining.Drinks are fancy and cute and food to me was a little on the dissapointing side. I thouht the ribs were chewy and the sauce so overwhelming it burned my throat and the crab was hardy worth the money. We did get a 25% off voucher for next time you dine, maybe applying this it would bring prices in line. Cant fault their drinks.

Last week, a friend and I went to Wok St Chow House straight after work. It’s located in Northbridge in the building that has changed restaurants so many times over the past few years that I have lost count. The interior is modern and there is a cool, casual, almost Melbourne-like atmosphere. Service was good – the waiter was attentive without being intrusive. My friend and I shared a total of 6 dishes and had over ordered, so we had leftovers for lunch the next day. I’m a bit sceptical when it comes to Asian fusion places, because I find them to be expensive for average food. I have tried Low Key Chow House which I thought was okay but nothing special. However I have also tried Kitsch bar which I enjoyed and recently I went to Miss Potz which I thought was really nice. Personally, I found the food at Wok St Chow House to be very average. We ordered the raw fish salad which wasn’t what I expected and I didn’t think it packed any punchy flavours. We also had the chicken wings which were spicy – they were nice and they provided a generous serving. The pork belly is was again nice but there was no wow factor for me. The duck curry was disappointing; there wasn’t much meat in the curry. The pad Thai was delicious but the dish of the night was the whole fried fish – the sauce was super tasty and moreish. Overall, even though I really liked the fish dish, it was underwhelming. The bill came to $165 which is quite expensive for an average night.

I was delighted to be amongst those invited to Yelp’s most recent Elite event at Wok St Chow House during the week. Having never been to the venue since its recent opening in mid December, I was excited to sample the menu. We were seated in a large open area of the back of the venue as organized by Laura and the team at Yelp. I was seated at a table where I didn’t know anybody but we all had place names and badges so we could get the conversation started.

Great place. Love the atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful. This place is one of the nicer Thai restaurants I have been to. Flavours are balanced well and delicious. We ordered the fried rice, char kuey teow, tom yum goong, beef massaman, pad thai and siracha chicken wings. Just yum.

A fabulous addition to the Northbridge scene!!

Trampled in last Saturday night out of the rain after watching the football and were served very promptly by helpful and knowledgeable waiters.

THE FOOD!! As someone who has traveled extensively through SE Asia, the flavours were delicious, perfectly balanced. We ordered prawn crackers with chili jam, pork skewers and Char Kuey Teow.

Although a little pricey, definitely worth it! Will be back in a heart beat!!

Disappointment is an understatement.

Wok St Chow House; one of Eat. Drink. Perth. Dining destination was offering an 8 course DegustAsian (degustation) with complementing cocktail; we were lucky to get into the third limited release dining date out of the four. What was meant to an exciting and fun dining experience turned out to be one of the worst I’ve ever encountered with us walking out before even finishing our 8 courses.

When arriving at the venue it looked very promising with amazing exterior and interior décor and friendly staff greeting us with warm smiles. Seating arrangement, table setting was on point and the degustation menu layout was already making us salivate; this was going to be an amazing and enjoyable night (so we thought).

Dietary requirements were noted weeks prior to the booking and was reassured with the waitress that my meal was fully arranged; I am pescetarian (does not eat meat but eats seafood) and also lactose intolerant.

First course was very promising with our welcoming matching cocktail which was delectable!

Second Course was chicken wings with roti a d green curry yoghurt; when brought out to the table there were three plates with 3 small chicken wings to share between the eight of us, my share plate had extra roti bread because I couldn’t eat the chicken (great value for money) by which this point the chicken sauce had already drenched the roti bread (mmm.. that delicious meat flavour). When enquiring about the green curry yoghurt and the substitute that was meant to be offered, I was told by the waitress that they chef said ‘people with lactose intolerant can usually have yoghurt and I would be fine to eat it.’ Quickly correcting her that I was not able to eat yoghurt as I am very sensitive to any dairy products (especially yoghurt), I was hoping the chef would replace it with some other kind sauce or dip, but nothing was done.

Third and fourth course were edible but nothing amazing. Asked the waitress what would be replacing the meat part of the sixth course and was told ‘Kai Lan’ (Chinese leafy vegetable), I addressed that it was already part of the dish? And was told that they going to put extra for that meal (a bunch of Kai Lan costs $2 at the Asian grocer), the floor manager came over to address the issue (with poor attitude) and told me that the Kai Lan the chef will be using is going to be a ‘different Kai Lan’ from the one that was being served in the sixth course; thinking to myself there is only one type of Kai Lan and I’m Asian! So we agreed and waited to see what was to come.

Fifth course; Green chicken curry with snow peas and baby corn, another dish that was shared amongst the table (I thought this was a degustation more like tapas) which wasn’t even enough to feed one person yet alone eight! Two of those plates had chicken and one was replaced with tofu; so essentially two bowls to share between seven people! The tofu tasted like cardboard and the rice we were served was the bottom parts of the rice cooker (over cooked and burnt).

We were waiting 30 minutes to 45 minutes for our sixth course to come out and started noticing that the waitress was serving the follow course matching cocktail (seventh course) before we had our sixth course. Then we looked around at other tables and realised that the others had already had their sixth course meal; they had forgotten our food! We addressed the issue to the waiter which had to go check the kitchen and comes back saying they are cooking it now!

So apparently the special ‘Kai Lan’ dish turned out to be the same as everyone else’s dish but minus the pork belly. I was the only dish served while others at my table waited to get their portions served, my meal ended up turning cold by the time theirs had arrived. Once again when the meals came out they were not individually served and having to share two plates between seven people as my vegetarian dish was counted as one!

At this point in time we were frustrated, hungry and furious! The waitress had no idea what was going on and their poor service of changing over our cutlery and product knowledge was astounding! They were trying to clear our meals before we had even finished eating (clearing seeing people still had food in their mouths and chopsticks in their hands).

One friend got so fed up got up and left, he was furious and over it.

By the time the seventh course came our cocktails for out eighth meal was already sitting on our table. Silken tofu with mushroom was this dish; they obviously don’t know what silken tofu is as they served us with dried out fried tofu which had no flavour and texture of cardboard!

Whole fried snapper with three flavour sauce was our final course; it was over cooked, full of bone and had no flavour at all!

At this point in the night we all decided that it wasn’t even worth staying for dessert so we all got up and left. The entire night no employee addressed us of how our meal was or any apology for all the things that went wrong.

To tie this all up, this was the worst dining experience that my friends and I have ever encountered and would not recommend this place to anyone. It was a waste of our time, money and effort; we could have gone down the road to china town and had an immense delicious Asian meal for half the price and be more satisfied then what we had experienced at Wok St Chow House.

The kinilaw fish with lime, coconut, sugar cane and vinegar ($16.80 for the standard dish) was my favourite canapé we were treated to. Marked as a ‘one dragon’ item on the menu, this signified just the slightest injection of heat which I actually didn’t notice – I was too busy knocking back spoon after spoon of this tropical sensation.

Sensational food, great menu and cocktails. Friendliest of waiting staff, warm interiors and excellent location. Highly recommended restaurant is you are looking for done spicy Asian food

What I ❤ about Wok St Chow House is their restaurant's theme/décor and of course their ever so cute panda logo by the name of "Yum Yum" 🐾. Wok St Chow House focused on the flavours from Thailand using in season produces sourcing from local places such as Freshcorp Farm, which also mean that they rotated their menu seasonally as well. We were seated in the courtyard area, completed with the Panda mural in the centre wall ❤ our seats were allocated by name tag and a little info about ourselves which I thought was a brilliant "conversation starter".

I love discovering a new restaurant. I was checking out Wok St Chow House in Northbridge. It has been open just a few months and has already gained an excellent reputation for it’s authentic Thai street food flavours. What I soon realised as I approached the Lake Street eatery was that not so long ago it was home to Darlings Supper Club.

Wok St Chow House is a great addition to the Northbridge foodie scene. The venue itself is cosy and has low lighting. We had a range of dishes packed with flavour, spice and colour. The staff were friendly and helpful and we really had a great experience. Looking forward to a return visit.

Delicious food in a great setting. Sure, it's not cheap for the serving sizes but the flavour is brilliant and the service is fine. Yum. Been a second time and was not disappointed. Great food!!!

Walked past and just decided to try it out on the way to a fringe show. Beautiful food, fresh and delicious!! And great wine and beer. Will definitely be back!!

We went to Wok St to celebrate Valentine’s day and to be honest I didn’t know that I was about to be treated to an array of beautiful Thai food. After a long glance at the menu, Hubby suggested that we order the Yum Yum Loves to Eat combination, which contains 6 courses for $55 per person.

We really wanted to try the spiciest dish in the menu called The Crying Tiger, Pad Thai and the Minced Roasted Duck on betel leaf so we weren’t sure whether we could go with the six course plan or not. The staff informed us that she can let the chef know that we wanted certain dishes to be in the 6 course plan to create a win-win situation for us (yay!).

The super lean, spicy and juicy beef flank of The Crying Tiger will definitely go well with hot steam rice. When the menu gave it 5 dragon icons to denote the level of spiciness, Hubby could hardly believe it. I could taste the spicy sauce in my mouth and the spiciness lingers for quite some time. Hubby on the other hand thought it wasn't spicy enough. The spice intensity is always a subjective thing if you're willing to brave the spiciness, this dish is a very good choice.

Evening started off to a good start with quick drinks service, and then that's where it ended. The waitress stuffed up our orders and our food went to different tables- she was super apologetic and once she put it through again we got the food super quick, however before that we were waiting close to an hour for it. Pretty much every dish has meat or seafood in it so it definitely is not vegetarian friendly. The food was tasty but I won't be rushing back.

We weren't too keen on Darling's Supper Club, Wok St Chow House's predecessor in this venue, which for many years hosted The Plum Restaurant. We dropped in tonight for a light supper and tried three of their street food dishes, crispy soft shell crab with fruit salad (bell apple and watermelon) marinated beef strips with Laos nam jim and kinilaw fish with lime, coconut, mung bean and cane vinegar. The soft shell crab was very tasty but not quite as good as Barque's. The marinated beef strips were full of flavour and nicely spicy. We were a bit ambivalent about the kinilaw fish dish. Overall we were impressed with our first small taste of Wok St and will definitely return to try more substantial dishes

Wanted to try this new establishment and came in for a late supper. We ordered the soft shell crab & fruit salad, some rice and the char kway teow. The crab was crunchy and meaty and quite generous in terms of size, and the dressing had a nice chilli kick to it. It went down nicely with the wide array of fruits it was served with. The kway teow was also served with plenty of seafood which were all very well cooked, though the sauce was slightly lacking in flavour. Maybe I should ask for it to be spicy next time. Overall it was a good meal, served with a smile.

Partner and i stumbled across Wok St Chow by pure chance and thought we would give it a go. Went for one of my old faithful dishes, pad thai, and was not dissapointed. $15 for the dish and a beer, i could not complain. Place was rather cute and the service was quick with attentive and genuinely happy servers. Will go again!

I love having decent food options available in my neighborhood later at night. Kway Teo was amazing super fresh seafood, Pork dish and the beef skewers were not so great but Im sure its teething issues. Service was spot on.

My friend and I stumbled on this place only a few days after they opened. I've never been to a restaurant when it's that new. It was nice to have super shiny and new cutlery! :P
Anyway, massive credit to these guys for doing so well having not been open for long, and there were a lot of diners!
The staff were lovely, albeit a little nervous and the food came out very quick. The decor is pretty cool and vibrant, I really enjoyed the atmosphere.
I just didn't find the food (satay skewers, kway teo and the minced duck) all that exciting. Actually found the sauce in the satay was the yummiest thing. I tasted something different, a more "real" satay.
Maybe the spicier dishes (which I generally avoid everywhere) are more exciting.
I would go back though, for the atmosphere and maybe try something different.
