What is it about Ramen?

Lying in bed on Saturday morning, I was checking out Facebook and watching New York's "Ramen Shack" do a pop up for one day. The man had taken 5 days to prepare 400 portions of the most perfect Ramen. I was hooked, mesmerised, I needed a Ramen fix.
Where to go? This place had received some great reviews, so I thought, lets go!

It was about 12:30pm on a Saturday and as I walked around Milligan St looking for this place, and not finding it, I saw a group of 4 young Asian guys and thought, Im close! Follow those guys. The restaurant is located in the Melbourne Hotel but on the Hay Street side. A small queue had formed and I knew I had arrived.

From the street the restaurant is lovely and clean and has a nice Japanese aesthetic. I noticed in the reviews many people complaining about the size of the restaurant, but for me it just confirms a closer tie to life in Japan. I could see people greedily gobbling down life giving bowls of Ramen, enjoying their Saturday with a good friend.
Even though I was in the queue for about 30 min it was all part of the experience. In Asia if you want good food, be prepared to line up. After living in China for the best part if a year, you learn to stay in the queue and not try the restaurant next door with NO customers in it. 🤢
So enjoy the queue. I ended up chatting with the four young guys about what was the best choice here and hands down they agreed the original Ramen was the best.

As I was on my own I got seated fairly quickly. This place is not where you bring 10 friends. The best groupings are 1, 2 or 4. But no more than that. They can do 6 but I saw that family wait a long time.
The serving staff were lovely and took their time to explain how to use the little sesame bowl and how to choose my Ramen using the order sheet. I chose the Black Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen special, with everything on the order sheet ticked normal except I wanted my soup hot.
But please note: do not expect your Ramen to come out boiling hot. It wont happen. The Japanese believe that food should be served at the right temperature as flavours are best experienced that way.

My Ramen came out and it looked amazing. Lovely big slices of pork and a gooey egg on top. I tried the soup that had not touched the spicy black oil yet and it was amazing. Lovely and rich. The noodles were perfect and had a great texture. There were complimentary eggs and marinated bean sprouts on the table. I also ordered a hot green tea and this really complimented the meal.

The spicy black oil was nice but a little on the heavy side and if I go again I will just order the original Ramen. The boys were right. 😂

So if you're craving a Ramen, this place wont disappoint. Enjoy the experience of Japans best comfort food, Ramen.

I must mention that their service was great! We took a small bub, so they made sure if she could be seated secure. Very busy place but gave us enough space.

Ramen was also good. The soup has bold thick flavour. Some may find it is fatty (I ordered 'notmal'). Not milk-like tonkotsu soup. It reminds me the ramen o-san in Sydney.

I definitely go back again.

Just a note for parents with small child:
They don't have a high chair, but provide booster seat. If your bub cannot sit without support, it would be difficult. The place is very tiny, so it would be better to avoid the peak time if you bring in a pram.

The ramen is simply delicious and authentic. Many Japanese flocked this place. So I am sure it indeed has that authentic Japanese taste. Be ready to wait in line. Evening last order is at 8:30 PM although open until 9:00 PM.

Easily the best tonkotsu in Perth. If you are a ramen fans like me and have been to japan, you’d know this place would beat at least 80% of Japanese ramen restaurant in taste and space — of course still rather small for Australian size. I come here 3-4 times a week. — addictive lol

Easily most authentic ramen in town. But be prepared to queue... Not normal for Perth but worth it this time if you are ramen fan.

OMG! This was the best ramen soup I’ve had in years!
The place was packed, people waiting in the street to get in.
The menu is simple. There are 3 choices.
I chose the traditional pork ramen with all the toppings.
It tasted fantastic!
I liked the fact there are some hard boiled eggs and cured bean sprouts on the table. It’s a nice addition.

A bit busy during lunch time but the Tonkotsu ramen tastes just like ones in Japan. The broth was rich and noodles are chewy. It was a good surprise that the service was friendly even it’s busy. You can choose richness of soup, firmness of noodles and hotness of the bowl. Don’t forget to add Ajitama! The shop is small and busy so I would recommend this place for a quick bite.

There are always long lines for this restaurant, but for a good reason. The lines do move along quite quickly

Tonkotsu is not for the faint hearted as a very thick pork broth which is high in cholesterol. But it is delicious, just make sure you pick the level of flavour and noodle softness which works for you. The bonus eggs and beansprouts also makes Keisuke an attractive lunch place.

Be prepared to wait for a table here, they are very busy! They certainly did not disappoint - from the texture of the ramen, to the flavour of the broth were all on point! Pork slices were tender enough and this was the only ramen joint which offered unlimited eggs! Definitely recommend this place if you are a fan of ramen.

After seeing so many great reviews on this place, we decided to give them a try. We must agree, the broth were amazing and delicious 😋 noodles and flavoured oil can be adjusted to our liking as well. Plus they gave complimentary egg & beansprout. This will be our go to place for ramen in the future. Highly recommended 👍 proof of vaccination needed in this restaurant!

Ramen here is pretty good - though it is a bit pricey compared to other ramen places in Perth. Having said that, they do offer complimentary boiled eggs and bean sprout as can be seen in images. Also a great vibe - almost authentic Japanese vibe🍜🍣🍱

One of the best (if not THE best) Tonkotsu ramen places in Perth. The broth is rich and tasty, and all of the toppings are excellent. Love how they allow you to customise your broth strength, spice level and amount of toppings. This does get crowded and it isn't a very large restaurant so come early to avoid having to queue (although the queue moves pretty quick). Tip: go for the "strong" broth option with the "warm" soup temperature - the warm is definitely hot enough!

The BEST ramen in Perth that we had thus far! The broth was rich & full of flavours. The flavoured egg was perfect! Noodle was springy! Everything is PERFECT for us! The beansprouts are very delicious too! It's free flow of hard-boiled eggs & beansprouts btw. There was a queue during our visit. We waited for about 15mins. If u go during peak hours the waiting time would be longer as there isn't alot of seats. Definitely worth the wait for a good ramen isn't it?

I ordered this place at 6:58pm or 6:59pm and the food arrived within less than 3 minutes like 7:02pm, very quick service of food and their hospitality is top notch 👌. Haven't tried the food but it looks amazing and smells delicious. I just finished the meal at 7:22pm AWST and truly enjoyed every bit it taste. So therefore I would highly recommend this place but this place might not be for yourself at each person will be different.

I give 5 stars as this probably one of the generous restaurant around Perth I ever visited, they give free eggs and unlimited bean sprouts that you can take as you like. It might be just a small service but for me I really appreciate it 😊 The Ramen itself is big bowl, we were super full, the soup is rich and you can choose the soup base light, normal or rich same as the toppings etc. Really great lunch 😊
