Review Mamak Botak Perth - Perth

M Faz
We've been here twice during our stay in Perth. Of all the Msian/Singaporean food we tried, this is arguably the best around. The lamb shank briyani is an absolute must try. Friendly service and food came very fast. Thumbs up, keep it up guys!

I want to say it's good, but unfortunately it wasn't that good. I ordered the spicy fried rice with ikan bilis, they have spiciness level from ok to fire engine! I went for the fire engine level, and it was spicy alright and very salty! In fact their food was either salty or sweet, their mee goreng (not shown) was sweet for my children taste and i have to agree with them. The roti canai with curry was so so, the roti john was lacking sauce. The one thing that we all agreed on was the roti tissue which is basically prata with sugar. Will i come back for more? Not really......

Mamak Botak is a lovely eatery operated by friendly owners. It offers authentic and delicious South-East Asian Indian and Malay food like Roti Prata, Chicken Briyani, Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng, etc. The interior of the eatery is renovated to provide a cosy and relaxing hangout for anyone yearning for a palate-satisfying meal. Thumbs-up! Note: owner shared that menu will be updated shortly.

Had the ayam merah and mee goreng and thosay. Guy at front counter was a nice chap, explained what the food in menu was like. After eating.."Sedap nak mampus sial!!!".. haven't had good tasting Singapore local mamak food in Perth ever since.. that one place in Northridge year's ago.

It's a very cozy and warm eatery serving Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine. There's Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng, Nasi Briyani, Pratas, Thosais, Murtabaks, Ice Kachang and Chendol to name a few of the items on the menu. There's also an excellent selection of Asian drinks. Was there on a Thursday night and service was prompt despite business being brisk.

1st time had the buffet today. I agree with spacious seating. Not cramped with next table. If you crave for some malaysian curry + can eat more than 1 portion = this place is good to try. I find it unusual to have a person serving you the dishes (instead of "help yourself"). I guess that is the "quality assurance" factor 😊

Sorry, i think I only gave 2 bad reviews including this one. Try to support halal restaurant but...First time came, everything was so slow. We had our food arrived almost one hour. Maybe because that day got many people? Maybe not many trained staff? Okay, we came again another 2-3 months I would say. There’s only 2 tables of customer, still slow. The coconut that they served with idiyappam was off and smelly. Food quality not good both times.

Love how roomy it is and the always friendly and attentive service. Very baby friendly. I have lunch here every other week and always enjoy their dosa and teh tariks. If you love spice, this is the place to go. However, my friend who doesn't enjoy too much spice, struggled to find a menu item suitable. Even their mild dishes can still be fairly spicy.

Tried the Carousel's branch. Clean space with simple decor. There is a spot for you to watch the chef make your roti prata fresh in front of you.
Tried the Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng and Roti Prata with egg. The Ayam Masak Merah (chicken in mild spicy tomato sauce) that came with the Nasi Lemak was cooked well (juicy & moist in the centre) and has good flavours.
Mee Goreng was ok too, not 'WOW!', but still enjoyable.
Roti Prata looked great, but the fragrance and taste was lacking some punch. It was missing the sweet-smelling, buttery element, as well as the crispy & fluffy texture.Might return to try other dishes.

Nice and spacious interior. Service is ok too. Food on the other hand is just very average. We had the nasi lemak 5/10, fried kway teow 6/10 and mee rebus 4/10.

Let me start by saying that the music here is great! ABSOLUTELY FAV TUNES but now .. onto the food

FOOD
Maggi Goreng - Medium Spicy - egg over easy
Was absolutely delicious but would have loved some more meat in it!!

Sardine Murtabak
Was delicious!!

DRINKS
Michael Jackson
The MJ is a mix of a soy bean drink and grass jelly and is was absolutely delicious. So refreshing and definitely Brought back childhood memories.

Cendol

The Chendol was great with lots of sides ! It wasn’t very sweet eating which definitely reduced the guilt !

Would recommend

Website and Internet says restaurant is open today (Wednesday), booking site even accepted our booking. Drove all the way to find out the restaurant is closed. Should probably update your opening times online

Roti pratas were excellent. The curry was tasty too. I came here for lunch one day, when it wasn't overly busy, however our food took way too long to arrive. The 3 layer tea was different and very tasty. The chicken portions in the roti john was miserable. We ordered the mee goreng and fried kweay tiao, both of which were off mark and did not taste authentic. I'd stick to the roti pratas and teh tarik. I have to say, the service was excellent.

First of all I just want to say that I've tried this place before for dinner and was thoroughly impressed with both briyani dishes, the ayam masaaki merah and roti pratas. The drinks were also fantastic...

Being extremely impressed the first time eating here I thought I would come back this weekend for a quick lunch bite. My partner and I both ordered the Nasi Lemak Chicken Curry at $13.90 per serve. Being curry chicken we thought we couldn't go wrong as this place blew us away during our first visit.

When our dishes arrived we were served 3 small (way over cooked hard dry) pieces of chicken floating in curry coloured water, standard rice with a fried egg on top and the usual peanuts and crispy anchovies accompaniment.

I really wanted to love this place again but I was bitterly disappointed with my second visit. My honest opinion is if you are going to serve curry chicken do it right otherwise don't offer it at all. I think this particular dish is hurting your returning customer base. My suggestion is to fix it or just take it off your menu.

Comparison with paparich Nasi Lemak Chicken Curry at $15.90 ie... $2 more expensive than your offering the quality and portion size is like day and night.

Please take this as constructive feedback. Like I said earlier the other dishes were top notch and I would happily recommend my friends to try those dishes! But your chicken curry Nasi Lemak is woefully off the mark. I can also see others commenting on here about their curry chicken experience. So I don't believe ours was a once off bad day in the kitchen situation. Thanks

Food is way over priced. Only 3 tiny pcs of chicken in that bowl of curry, they make up less than a drumstick. The curry is watery, no curry taste. I could get far better tasting, bigger portion in other Malaysian restaurants. Definitely not going back.

Mamak Botak is a relatively new restaurant in Willetton which specialises in Singaporean food. Willetton has become an awesome little food hub with so many new restaurants popping up such has Hansik, Six Willows Cafe and Ramen Boy to just name a few. On Saturday, my partner, his friends and I decided to catch up and check this new place out. It’s right next to Baskin Robbins. The dishes came out steadily, one by one. This meant that many of us were eating before some even received their dishes. The place was also quite echo-ey and loud so it was a bit difficult talking to everyone without shouting.

Food is okay but service can definitely be improved. Waited for more than an hour for my meal and it was a relatively simple order. Won’t be as keen to come back here again

Love the mamak Maggie mee goreng. But take note it's Singapore style not Malaysia style. Teh-Tarik was good too. Definitely will be back for more.

Food 7/10
Service 8/10
Good casual dining. Dishes are spicy and aromatic.

Again, usually I’ll try out places to eat a couple of times before jumping to a conclusion. Mamak Botak is relatively new. Tried their Nasi Lemak with curry chicken and lamb shank briyani on my second visit. Both times I had their teh-tarik, both times it is good ( Note - not made from instant powder).

The nasi lemak is a simple classic - rice cooked in coconut milk, crunchy anchovies, boiled egg and cucumber. Sambal is aromatic and spicy. Chicken curry is alright, not overcooked. The lamb shank has a spicy curry and the meat just falls off the bone. Care has been taken by the chef to slowly cook it until all the spices blend together in the curry. There’s lots of onions in the dish, and it’s well caramelised. Flavour is expected from a good briyani dish. Not to forget the briyani rice - fluffy and flavoured with saffron.

This is a great place for casual diners looking for a clean and friendly place to eat. Waiters/ waitresses are friendly. 👍

nice food and very friendly staff. lots of parking around the place as well. we ordered mee goreng and two plain roti canai. Both are very nice, big portions as well.

Had breakfast here on a Sunday. We've enjoyed dinner here before - good food, although a bit pricey. I was disappointed with my breakfast order though. This is the menu description: Cheesy Kiddie Toastie
- Single slice thick-cut white Vienna toast, grilled with cheese three ways, garlic mushrooms and cucumber pineapple salad. What was served was not a 'single slice thick-cut Vienna toast' - it was 2 thin slices of white bread, which were very soggy. It was tasty but I would have preferred the Vienna toast. I think if you're going to serve plain white bread instead of what's on the menu, you should at least inform the customer. Some of us know our breads! The teh tarik is good though.

Ordered a plate of Nasi Lemak, a piece of chicken which is dry with no taste. The rice should cook with coconut milk but didn't get the aroma of the coconut smell.
The quality of the food do not match with the price, paid $15.90. Should only worth $8.00
NOT GOING BACK AGAIN.

Went for lunch and ordered the lamb shank briyani. The lamb was perfectly spiced and falling off the bone. It just melted in your mouth! Served on a bed of briyani rice with a side of pineapple and cucumber acar, and papadum. The serving size was generous and could even be shared between two people. Also ordered a Chendol but felt it lacked flavour and was quite mediocre. The restaurant has a nice casual atmosphere and loved the eclectic tables. One which featured an old ice maker to make ABC used by vendors back in Malaysia and Singapore, featured as a base of the table, very funky! Staff were friendly and accommodating. Will be back to try other menu items soon.

The food is good. We have tried the chicken briyani, mee goreng and nasi goreng kampung. They are all good but I especially like the briyani. The staff are friendly and trying their best. It’s a new store so they have some teething issues such slightly longer wait time for food. Definitely will visit again in near future.
