Review Hangout On 20 Preston - Perth

Had some really great, hearty meals here including some excellent nachos and beautiful steak and lamb shanks. Vegetarians aren't forgotten either, the pumpkin patties and garlic/tomato roast cauliflower worth checking out too. Will be back to try the desserts later!

Cocktails were amazing, food was amazing. The customer service was fantastic. Can't find a fault. Great little hidden Gem we found on a nightly stroll. Will come back again and recommend you give this great business a go

The customer service was good, we bought Groupon voucher to dine in. We ordered entree (chili mussels with garlic bread) was really good . Our mains was lamb shank it was absolutely delicious where as prawn linguini all we could taste was capsicums I couldn’t eat because all I could taste was 🫑 . The desserts was sticky date pudding and banana berry chocolate both of it taste okay.

Have been here 4 times, twice to try individual dinner meals ands twice to try share plates. On all occasions service was quick and friendly, food came out quickly, was presented nicely and tasted good. I think we preferred the share style plates as we got to try a bit of everything.
Olga Goches
We had Meatballs served with garlic bread for the shared plate and Seafood Paela and Butter Chicken for mains. The mains are a generous size. We thoroughly enjoyed the meals. I highly recommend this place. Service is really good. We will come back

Amazing food and friendly service! One of the best squids I ever had, and the chicken breast were so tender and delicious!

Had an amazing night over here with great big portions of food and with great price, the customer service was awesome, give us a free drink for birthday💓

Fabulous meal. Had the Groupon deal but could chose from the whole menu and just pay extra if over the allowance. Heaps of choose, great portions and very flexible with their service options. Steak was best my husband has had in a long time. All beautifully presented and fabulous service for a busy little restaurant. Thank you we’ve had a lovely evening and enjoyed taking our time over dinner.

The worse mojito we ever had!! No ice, a few bits of old mint. Espresso martini was good though. We had to call over the staff every time we needed something, very unattentive service. We laughed at the rotting, plastic flowers and completely dead plants in the planter boxes outside. The place completely lacked an attention to detail that makes a little local café/bar cute and homely. The food was OK; portion was absolutely massive could only eat 1/4 of the risotto that came with the chicken breast and was all a bit too busy on the plate with flowers and all (tacky!) Would not reccommend

Large platter like mains for our Xmas 2019 dinner. I had the barramundi & wild rice. Super buzzy atmosphere. There were 10 of us. I had the crepes for dessert. Yumny crepes and friendly waitresses. The $35 set meal included beer or wine. Lovely place for an xmas dinner.

My wife and I had a three-course dinner with wine at Hangout on 20 Preston bought from Groupon celebrating her birthday last night. This is the first time we came to this restaurant. The restaurant sits on a slope overlooking the river offering a magnificent view at dusk. There is plenty of free parking along the roadside. We like the interior decoration and ambience of it.
We ordered a glass of Vasse Felix Chardonnay and a glass of Pepper Jack Shiraz, and both were of very good quality. The shared entree we ordered was lemon pepper squid. We were surprised by its portion size, not to mention the squid was battered and fried to perfection on top of a fresh salad. We could taste the freshness and tenderness of the squid. My wife had barramundi as main-course and I had sirloin steak. Again, we were amazed by their portion size. Both dishes were nicely decorated. After tasting the barramundi, we knew straight away the owner and the chef wanted to impress the customers with their quality of food. Our taste buds were not bombarded by intense flavours, instead we could taste the freshness and quality of the fish and vegetables used to make the dish. The creamy sauce was not overloaded with butter and cream that might kill our appetite. The 300gm sirloin steak was another surprise. The moment I stuck the knife in the meat I knew it was something exceptional. It was very tender and cooked to my liking, which was medium rare. The cross-section of the steak revealed to me it was dry-aged. It was darker in colour and showed a jelly texture. Again, the pepper corn sauce was not salty and intense. I knew they did not want to mask the real taste and quality of such a prime steak.
We were quite filled before being treated with desserts. We ordered affogatto and banana, berry and chocolate crepes. And again, we could not help ourselves to tell the waitresses how fantastic the desserts were.
We had a very good night and were very impressed by the consistent quality of food provided to us by this restaurant. I told the manager/owner of what I mentioned above before we left.

Staff were friendly and attentive, however that didn't make up for the mediocre food. I went weekday lunch time and was served paella with undercooked rice and overcooked mussels, and a medium rare sirloin that was medium well. Expected more for the price, hence the low score!

Sometimes the service is good and sometimes it needs lot of inprovement. Often the waitresesses forget that you are there and you have to remind them.of your existance which is upsetting. The food is okay. Parking is good

Another one of my favourite breakfast and even dinner spots in Perth! The brekky menu is sensational (I'm a simple poached egg and avo person), the coffee is great and it's a cute little spot. The dinner menu is just as tasty, my favourite being the pork belly
Matt Browne
There's no option for zero stars. My pregnant wife and I had a voucher deal and asked the waitress if coffee would be covered. We were told coffee is covered but when we went to leave the front counter waitress asked us to pay for the coffee. Even though we were told it was covered she still insisted we pay. It was embarrassing trying to discuss how we were told the coffee was covered with our voucher deal. I emailed the management/owner twice with no acknowledgement or response. I even informed them it's misleading and deceptive conduct. Ridiculous this is all over a coffee. We're not ever going back to this place

Came here for a brunch with a bunch of friends. Called 1 hour prior to make reservation and no hassle at all as the girl is very helpful.
I had big breakie, standard. But bacon was a bit over cook thus dry. Flat white was ok, but feedback is for the cup, handle is not ergonomic.

But ambience is good in general. Customer service is good.
Food_Glorious_Food
A bit of an underwhelming dining experience. Came for a quick brunch and ordered the steak sandwich (meat was very chewy & tough, focaccia bread was a bit soggy), and a chicken burger special (ordinary). There was only one waitress on the floor who was friendly & trying her best but you could clearly tell she was stressed and running around trying to service each table. Menu selection was fairly unexciting, atmosphere is ok (nicer to sit near the window or outside on a sunny day). A bit average overall, perhaps breakfast might be better.
Mark
Fabulous breakfast. I had the boomerang. A croissant with pulled pork, poached eggs, spinach and hollandaise. It was all cooked perfectly and different to the run of the mill breakfasts you get most places. My wife had scrambled eggs with wilted spinach and she commented that they were cooked to perfection. The coffee is nice too.

I’ve been here for dinner once and I was so surprised it was so quite on a Saturday night. Lovely food and attentive wait staff. Good parking on street or across the road. Why was it quiet??

Recommend for a relaxing drink

Once myself and my friend arrived at the restaurant we waited about 10 minutes for acknowledgement, whilst being ignored by the staff, one of the waiters finally came over to seat us but the whole time they were rude. It didn’t get much better after this either, we had to order drinks first and weren’t allowed to order food at the same time and by the time we did order food it took another 30mins to make, the restaurant was very quiet at the time which made the experience worse if it was busy I would understand. The only saving grace was that the food wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good either but I had the chilli mussels which were average but ok. I would not recommend this place though because the service is not welcoming at all.
Natasha Williams
I had the chilli mussels here and they tasted terrible. Everyone else at lunch seemed to enjoy their meal. Other than the meal I had, it was a nice place service was pretty good.

Upon arrival, we waited awhile before being greeted. The restaurant interior is warm and welcoming, but it’s staff are neither. We were left to wait for a prolonged period of time, until the waiter arrived to take our order. We were then interrupted to state that they will only be taking out drinks order, not our food. We managed to ask how long the average time it would take to cook our food, to which the response was ‘oh another 20 minutes, so I would’ve suggested to have ordered sooner’. How is it our fault after several attempts for trying to get the servers attention, and being purposely ignored that our food would take longer in a near empty restaurant. Very rude service from a place I had previously enjoyed their dinner specials.

Went for midweek breakfast, ordered gluten free eggs Benedict and a flat white. Asked for no hollandaise as is it was not homemade and not gluten free. My coffee came out looking a bit sad, thankfully I was busy chatting and did not drink it. They had served me a soy one. So took it back and re did the coffee. When brekkie came out it was on normal bread and hollandaise all over it. I was about to comment when the employee serving remembered and said he would get it re made, and he walked off muttering not so nice things about the chef. In the end average meal, terrible service. Not going back.

My friend recently moved into this area so we met up for dinner a few weeks ago. We decided on this place as the menu was diverse with some interesting dishes. It was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday evening. The service was prompt and friendly, happy to give us time to debate the menu while chatting away. In the end we bought got the satay sliders (which were the perfect size and so yummy!) with chips. We also ordered cocktails, which were nice but rather strong (for casual drinkers.) It was a nice dinner but I wouldn’t rush back. Would recommend if you’re in the area :)

This place is going down ...down ...down ... what a pity!! Did it change management??? Not good , thick cut bacon is a overpowered with a strange sauce .. all cold

Service was great and friendly

We order from the Tapas/Share plates.

We were really disappointed with the Honey glazed pork belly, It was coveredd in sauce that distroyed the crispy crackle of the skin and made it so rubbery that it could not be cut with a knief or even eat it.

The calamari was covered in the szechuan sauce. The sauce over powered the calamari, the calamari was just slighty over cooked.

The tandoori chicken was nice, but need some heat to it.

The chips were cooked well, crunchy but were lacking in truffle taste.

Overall average meal.
Friendly and warm greetings from the staff opening up on a quiet and sunny morning.
Good coffees.
Breakfast food selection quite good and enjoyable.

Fantastic good and service. Great lunch specials. Definitely a place for the foodies. Eat in the alfresco or inside. Great selection of teas for after your meal also!

Delicious food and great location. Had the fish and chips for lunch (snapper) which also comes with a salad, was absolutely delicious. Very friendly staff too.

Dining at Hangout on 20 Preston was certainly a night to remember with friendly staff, delicious food and live music on Saturday nights. Perfect place to come to if you would like an enjoyable night out with family or friends. EXCEPTIONAL, one of my favs!!

Amazing food and great atmosphere. Love the fireplace ! Makes it feel cozy. Mac and cheese fries and the chilli mussels are so delicious. Staff is also always welcoming and friendly.

Just average. Food pleasant but they really need to improve in service. Go quite frequently for breakfast at which time service is generally okay, never great, but any time have been for lunch or dinner has been very very slow. Went for lunch yesterday, it was very quiet, waited over 10 mins to be able to place our order - after went and told them ready to order.
Kim Stark
I sought out this cafe because they had wifi listed on their listing so I was disappointed to find out they don't actually have wifi. The place was near empty but the staff took 5 minutes to come over and see me, as they were wondering around restocking water glasses on empty tables. Good chai was a redeeming thing thankfully.

Came for an early brekkie arriving just after they opened. They have table service. I ordered the avocado, pea and feta mash on ciabatta with poached egg and pico de gallo, and a long Mac topped up. Hot and strong coffee came out quickly with the brekkie not too far behind. Pretty impressed with timing; I arrived and left under 40 mins which is pretty good for a quick an on the way to work brekkie. Food was fresh, although though there could have been a little more mash on the bread. Staff were friendly. Have been here for lunch once too, and that was very good.
Gregory Craig
Service was ok. Staff could not answer what was in my burger patti. Initially they did not offer to ask the chef, i had to ask them to as the taste was very different. Which brings me to the burger, egg was just cooked, i asked for it minus a couple of things they delivered it missing one more item, and the burger patti had an unusual taste which i learnt was due to bbq sause being an ingredient, also the patti was very soft in consistency. Others at my table were happy with what they got.

I dined here today for a catch-up with a girlfriend and we really enjoyed our visit. We shared the haloumi & quinoa salad, polenta chips and edamame beans, plus two glasses of red and 2 coffees. All are pictured, but note the we'd already served the beans when we took the photo, so the serving looks smaller than it was. All our food was delicious and filling. The service was great, and the restaurant itself has a lovely feel.

Late morning breakfast was in order and was quickly seated (don't sit on the long bench inside, wasn't comfortable at all). Ordered the hungover meal which was really tasty, the bacon, sausages, two eggs and hollandaise sauce was a good combo especially with the two hash browns on the side. The eggs with avocado smash was a bit small of a portion, little eggs, super thin toast and small amount of avocado. The orange juice was just your normal 35% juice, would have been good if a 100% was available.

I come here for breakfast all the time and love it. Went for a New Year's Eve recovery breakfast and because of the public holiday they had a limited menu. Asked for an iced chocolate which they were not serving that day but still made for me anyway because I am a regular. Lovely staff. Good food :)

Went for breakfast. I am not a huge egg fan and I found the menu very limiting. My partner got the big breakfast but his eggs were still rather undercooked. I had the pancakes which were way too sweet and nauseating to be honest.

Great place for breakfast and a morning coffee. Service was quick and friendly. Funky tunes playing and a great vibe. Would definitely recommend

First time having dinner here. Absolutely awesome! Love the ambience and live music. Yes actual people singing and playing an instrument. The food was great! Mu favourites were the chilli mussels with bread, chorizo and paella balls, the soft shell chilli crab (yes, soft shell, you can eat the whole thing!), the banana leaf fish and the mushroom risotto! I enjoyed the flavours of the baos as well. The polenta chips were ok. I have had better.

Overall a great night with friends surrounded by great food. Small criticism for a chilli lover, the soft shell crab wasn't spicy enough!

Hollandaise the 'from a bottle' stuff, not homemade. Fridge temperature and splatted all over my fried eggs! Gross!!! Beautiful, classy restaurant and nice food ruined by this! I have no idea what the problem is with making fresh hollandaise. It's cheap and easy and delicious and needs only eggs, butter, lemon juice and vinegar. The bottled stuff is gross! And god knows what goes into it.

The Hangout is right around the corner from my house and I love it! Been here twice since moving in, once for brekky and once for lunch and both were great! They also do a mean chai latte and their lunch specials are awesome! Friendly vibes and friendly staff.
Julezluvfood
Have had a breakfast and dinner here and found it better suited to breakfasts.
Dinner was tapas style but mostly deep fried and not a lot of healthy options. Four dishes ordered and all delivered at once. Tapas should be more staggered. No time to even enjoy a couple of glasses of wine.
Sandhya1814
Quite a long wait for food even though the place isnt crowded. Desserts and ice cream related cocktails are only available when the gelato store is open, which should be let known in the menu to avoid unnecessary disappointment. Food to average, nothing fantastic but yea.

The Hangout has been a favourite breakfast and dinner spot of mine for four years now. However, unfortunately I feel the breakfast menu isn't as wonderful as it once was. The breakfast menu items are quite pricy, which I can forgive as let's face it, breakfast menu prices are high everywhere nowadays. Whilst my breakfast itself was tasty, there wasn't enough of it. I ordered the avocado and pea smash on toast with poached eggs. This came with only one piece of toast having the actual smash on it, leaving the poor second poached egg looking lonesome resting on the dry, second piece of toast. Th nice cup of coffee saved the day.
KP
Really disappointing experience, which is a shame because the venue itself is nice. Wait and counter staff are indifferent and inattentive. 30-40 minute+ wait for food. Meager portion sizes leave you hungry. Don't expect any reaction or compensation (basic customer service) if you politely express you weren't happy with the experience either. At $50 for 2 people, you're much better off spending your valuable dollars at Angelo Street or East Vic Park for a solid Sunday brunch.
Kendall Main
$4.80 for a single shot cappuccino take away and it tasted like burnt milk. If they can't even get an overpriced coffee right then I won't be going back.
Flavia Constancio
Lovely and cosy place!
Went for breakfast, ordered the baked eggs... Dish was ready in 10 minutes.
Unfortunately not enough tomato sauce and a very hard yolk made the dish quite dry.
We were under the impression that perhaps were pre cooked?
Ordered a skinny flat white and received a cappuccino.
Ordered a glass of sparkling wine and received a glass of sparkling water.
The staff was very friendly and attentions.

Jessica Howlett
Went here for breakfast and got the baked eggs. Came out overcooked. Gave it another try a few days later for a coffee date and were told someone would take our order only to sit there for 20 minutes being ignored. Not a highly rated place
I cannot get enough of this place always good to have dinner or lunch here staff are super nice, only con is that the food takes a little while to arrive sometimes

Hangout on 20 Preston has been high on my to-try list ever since I saw Singapore Chilli Crab on their menu, and even more so considering it's softshell crabs they use!

Generously wrapped in vermicelli and lathered in batter, the deep-fried softshell crabs are supersized, and served with a chilli sauce that could easily rival the real deal I've had in Singapore. I've had them twice now, and they're definitely a must try, though the first round featured a small amount of some rather unappetising residual flour inside.
David.warburton
Was not offered a table and asked to sit next door in the cold icream shop (SAME OWNERS) Because I was on my own. 4 spare tables ON A COLD DAY. Pissed off and will not be comming back. Arrogant and rude.

What a waste of money I was left extremely disappointed after trying the "Hangout Tower Burger" When I look at a menu and it says burger I expect a bun with fillings, how wrong was I. This came out as an open sandwich/burger? A soggy rectangle piece of bread which had all the ingredients layered on top. The patty and the weird meatball shaped patty on top had an unpleasant taste and there didn't appear to be any sauce. You needed to eat it with a knife & fork but being served on a small wooden board made it difficult to eat, it was so gross I couldn't eat it. Luckily it was served with chips otherwise I would have gone hungry, at $25 it was a joke. When the waitress cleared the table and asked how the meal was my partners said I don't think she enjoyed hers to much and all she did was giggle and take the uneaten food away.

Had a pretty good night out with my girls here. It was pretty packed but there was a free table outside so we took it. A waitress came over not long after to turn the fire on for us so it was nice and cozy! Food was great too!
Rhirhilovesfood
Great service. Came here to catch up with a friend and while we were chit chatting away we didn't take a proper look at the menus. Apologies to the poor waitress who checked up on our table a few times to see if we were ready to order and we had nothing ready. Thank you for coming back every so often, we probably wouldn't have eaten anything the way we were blabbing on! The food was fantastic too! All round great place to visit. I'll definitely be back.
Everyone's A Critic
The food better be good for service like this...
We wanted to come in from lunch and were told they lunch service till 12.30pm. Which we were fine with so we went somewhere else for coffee first. I went in to make a booking for 12.30 and went back outside to finish our cake and coffee. The waitress that took my reservation came outside to call us to come in to reserve the seat instead. I told her very clearly that we had food with us and she said it was ok to bring it inside to eat. We got seated and immediately got attitude from the staff and got treated as if we were dishonest. A different waitress came in and told us that management said we were allowed to bring other food inside. We of course put everything away. Ruined mood and maybe we shouldn't have stayed for the food.

Food:
- Sweet Potato & Polenta Chips:
Wasn't well seasoned, bland and a little mushy
- Paella Balls
Not bad but ... didnt taste like Paella
- Steamed Fish in Banana Leaf
Nice spicy flavours on the top... but we had a bone in our fish
- Pulled Pork Croquettes w Blue cheese sauce
Haha waitress did know the difference between the Croquettes and Paella balls herself?? Blue cheese sauce was great! But the Croquettes were a bit dry
- Coconut and lemongrass mussels
Way way way too salty!

Price: $82.50

Yes we finished everything because we were hungry but left very underwhelmed and would not come back nor recommend. Maybe a little harsher because of bad service but we tried to be as objective as possible with the food.

Looks can be deceiving - looked great ... tastes slightly below average and unmemorable . I guess that why everyone's a critic right?

Louie
Only had coffee but it was very good. Traditional long macchiato - strong and smooth. $9 for 2 coffees. Friendly service and quite quick. Nice fit out

Arrived at 11.45 waited to be seated , no acknowledgment from the two people behind the counter , proceeded to sit down , had to get up and ask for a menu , was told to go sit down , the girl came over with some water and asked if we were here to order lunch , yes was our answer , but alas lunch was not available for 15 or 20 minutes !! So we then asked for the breakfast menu ... No sorry that stopped at 11.30 ... Only coffee and banana bread available ... Come on management talk to your staff and get the timing right ... Promptly got up and went to Atomic down the rd ...packed and service with a smile

Located in a busy Street of Como, one of the more happening joints here with a live band to entertain patrons. Very friendly staff and accomodating. Ordered their cocktails - the Happy Cider was quite nice - fruity and light. Food wise we ordered their specialities of Mexican Burger and Pesto Spaghetti. The burger was surprisingly tasty! Liked the guacamole, juicy beef patty, soft bun and the spiciness from the jalapenos was just right. The thick cut chips were quite dry though, a bit of sauce would be good. Their pasta was nicely made, plenty of olives and pesto flavour.
Sarah
The menu looks like the chef just choose what foods they liked the most across many cuisines to offer a fusion in most dishes. I'm very keen to try their other offerings. My partner and I had tapas, our favourite was the pork belly. Yum!
Kaz
We came here for breakfast a few weeks ago and were disappointed to discover that there were no high chairs despite zomato indicating that the cafe was kid friendly. The coffee was good and the food and service were ok but not having high chairs available made our dining experience with baby and toddler a little difficult.
LittleGirlBigFood
Cute little spot yo. I don't mind this place. I find the combo of burgers and tapas a bit hard to take but the service is fab and the general vibe is cute. I like
ITADAKiMASU
As promised, I returned to try the $10 cocktails but this time with a different set of people. Overall, the drinks were very watered down and did nothing for me except disappoint. The food was still delicious but smaller portions this time and they seemed to be low on seafood (they ran out of mussels so the seafood paellas were sans mussel goodness). My groupies loved the food though and we were sent rolling out the door after a decent $250 bill (for 5pp including drinks).

--------

Who wouldn't want to hangout on 20 Preston? Simple menu with a choice to order sharing-isn't-caring food or tapas style share plates. We tried both and the food was delicious.

The crispy-skin barramundi (solo person's dish) was absolute perfection on a bed of tangy and sweet pineapple salad. Crumbed king prawns and the pork belly share plates were also delightful. The pork was quite inconsistent though where some parts were either very tough or thick sections of tough fat.

We came on a hot day and would recommend visiting on a average day as they only accommodated with fans. Gorgeous bar - will be back to try the cocktails at $10 a pop on Friday nights.

This review is based solely on coffee. Just looking for a spot to have a quick top up before the baseball game, we found this cafe. They were busy but found us a table and took our order quickly. The coffee was back on the table in a couple of minutes and, while it looked unimpressive, tasted great! So, a lovely 20 minute experience that helped the hangover feeling no end!
Eating Brie
In the search of a solid breakfast we sometimes overlook the places right in front of us. Sidekick is a south of the river resident and whilst I still believe Perth's best breakfasts are found in the great north, pressed for time we decided to head back to an old nearby local.

I had frequented the Hangout in the past and liked the food but the service was always pretty slow, hence my reluctance to race back there. It had been quite some time between bites and I'm pleased to say there have been some huge improvements to the place.

Firstly the service was better. All good on that front. But my lord what a great menu now! No plain jane bacon and eggs here, there were sliders, parfait's, low carb paleo friendly breakfast salads, crepes and their Hungover breaky. Literally something to please everyone and each dish brought something different to the table rather than just your usual suspects.

After much deliberation I went with the chorizo salad and Sidekick went with the sliders. Great authentic Spanish chorizo and perfect poached eggs (I swapped the fried for poachies) and the sliders oh wow (his words) with the onion jam, sweet soft bread and side potatoes making it a ripper dish.

Coffee didn't knock socks off but the food did and I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at this little place. Will have to be back to try the sweet things on the menu.
Ben Burchill
Dropped in here for lunch yesterday. Have been before with a mate but never reviewed. The food is great, the menu eclectic and the beer cold. Had the pork belly sliders yesterday and they were delicious. The chips are fat and crispy with the right amount of salt. Perfect is the word. Great job to the staff and the owner. Will be back for certain.

Went here early morning to get some breakie.. Service was great.. But our mushroom in the big breaky was slimy and tasted off, returned it and the only change the mushroom. Everything else in the plate was stone cold. Ordered the hangover too, chips was cold when it came and not great at all. The no carb breakie was a rip off, scrambled egg with few slices of smoked salmon and 2 pieces of asparagus for $19.. Wont be coming back im pretty sure..
Bite Into It
Such a nice location and area for breakfast. Came here one morning and waitress took our order, half an hour later they had advised us that they 'lost' the order. Spoke to a few friends in regards to this place and apparently they are known to loose orders! WOW! What kind of cafe are you running when you can't even keep an order? That's my two cents in regards to service.
I ordered the eggs Florentine, was ok, stingy on the hollandaise sauce.
Shame, I would have loved to come back and tried other things on the menu but just a little unsure.
Thomas M
It's like a scratchie, sometimes you win and sometimes you don't. The food and service is unpredictable and the owner hangs out around the cafe like he's king. If you're after something quick to eat to grab on the run, this isn't the place for you.
Carv_Y
Had breakfast here a while back and it was quite alright, just like the name suggested, a good place to hangout.

Was there a week ago for breakfast, however it was disappointing. I had the avocado and pea mash with poached egg. It was $18, barely had any avocado or pea in it. The bread that served with it wasn't good quality bread either. All in all, quite disappointing.
Eden Carey
Very nice. I had a blue cheese slider and was small to look at but filled me up nicely, my boyfriend had the tower burger and loved it. Would come here again :)
Loves It
Nice place, can get very busy here so make sure you book. Yum tapas style food.. Also open for breakfast which was good, decent servings. Enjoyed the baked eggs with bean and chorizo sauce.

This is a good spot for hanging out with your mates or your family as the name suggests. The place has a nice setting and ambience. We ordered king snapper served on the bed of risotto with cream cheese; very smooth and delicious. We also had bangers and mashed potato; the sausage is bit salty for my liking. To share, we had paella; it was delicious. They also have burger menu which I really want to try on the next visit, especially the pork belly sliders.
Thefunkychicken
Don't bother. Underwhelming. Slow, rude service totally took the shine off what could've been a nice breakfast. Twenty five minute wait for coffee that came out at the same time as breakfast. Not a word of "how was everything" or "thank you" from the staff. There are better alternatives around.
Bri
I usually love coming here but after working hospitality for so long I was disappointed in this visit. We ordered the tower burger which was still delicious as always but has significantly decreased in size over the past few weeks. After asking for water several times, we never received it even though all tables had water and the table that sat down after us was severe before us. Not to mention that after getting our food no one came to our table for more than half an hour. We wanted more drinks and the water that never came, instead we had to go to the counter to pay. We didn't think they deserved more of our money after waiting for so long. Maybe next time will be better

Edit: the honey glazed bacon steak is no more!! Devo!! Had the bacon and eggs with hollandaise sauce which was nice but nothing special. Very unfortunate!

Had breakfast here. The coffee was good and the honey glazed bacon steak was so good!! One of the best breakfast I had in a while :)

It's nice to have a breakfast menu too that have had some thoughts put into it and not just the same old.

I think it has become my new fav breakfast joint!

Have to say we were pleasantly surprised with this one. Decor is upscale and relaxed. Ordered the King snapper with risotto and was absolutely blown away. Everything was fresh and presentation was beautiful. Service was mediocre. Will definitely be back to try their coffee and other dishes.

Good coffee. Super satisfying food. The interior feels like hanging out in a luxurious living room/dining room with a fireplace on the go in winter and sweet jazz tunes in the background. Staff are great.

I loved their old menu but then it changed and not a fan of the new dishes. The cocktails are still amazing and I still love the look of the Hangout.

Great food and great service. Came for a lunch time date and wasn't disappointed at all. Food size is good, but it is tapas style, so don't expect massive servings. I had the goats cheese stuffed balls (like arancini) and the baby potatoes. Food came out quick and was delicious and well priced. I'll be back again for sure!

Went here for dinner on a Friday night. The atmosphere was great and the place was quite busy. However, within two minutes we felt like we were being rushed to order and make a decision. We hadn't realized but the venue closed at 9.30pm and they were hesitant about us ordering desert (a slice of cold cake) at 8.45pm because the kitchen was closed. By 9.15pm the waitress was trying to take away glasses with wine still in them. While the food was nice and the decor is great, I will look for a restaurant with longer opening times in the future.

Nice little neighbourhood bar. The booze selection isn't huge, but they have some good quality items such as Hendricks gin. The atmosphere is cozy, although I'm not a fan of the TV that always seems to be playing. Their coffee is really really good, I believe they have a special blend roasted just for them.
Average to below average! Been there a few times and had decent meals. Last time the pork burger tasted gross and the beer smelt terrible. Wouldn't go again!!!

Baked Eggs - Definition?. Ordered baked eggs for breakfast, personal experience indicated that baked eggs = eggs that were crack into the wells and baked till the egg white is set but egg yolk runny... To avoid confusing and to ensure my expectation meets reality, I googled the definition and the know-it-all agreed.
So why is it that when my 'baked eggs' came out it is 'fried eggs' on top of mixed beans and chorizo with tomatoe-y sauce?
My companions enjoyed their respective dishes, but all of us were bemused by the 'fried eggs' trying to disguise as 'baked eggs'.
Improvement needed - 6/10

Disappointed. I really like this place. It's just around the corner from my place, the food is delicious and the wine great. But unfortunately, it doesn't cater for children. We were going through the menu to see what my 6 year old would eat, when the waitress suggested the fish and chips and that they could do a half serve (ie: kids size). I thought great and thank her for doing that. But when I got the bill they had charged us for the full size serve. It would have been nice for the waitress to advise me that even though they were only going to give me half a meal, I would still be charged the full price. I thought that was very wrong. I would have got the whole meal if that was the case. Can I suggest having a couple of meals in entrée size at a reduced price to accommodate children. Thanks

Hangout cafe Preston Street Como. Delicious food, interesting menu, plenty of variety, ability to share plates. Wonderful for lunch, just so convenient for after the movie meal with friends. We just keep coming back

Good food and coffee but terrible service! Had to ask over and over for water. When trying to pay the 2 waitresses continued talking while I stood there! When they finally acknowledged me there they were very rude because I had interrupted!

Wasnt thrilled. Adults dinner out - waitress was nice and friendly and efficient too.
Some of our table ordered share plates which looked quite nice and they enjoyed them
another ordered Barramundi with Thai salad which was enjoyed, A couple of us ordered Bowl of mussels with bread. One bowl had a few unopened mussels, my bowl had almost 10...which kind of makes it not good value! The sauce was okay but felt it could have had more flavour, the mussels themselves were quite small - a forgettable dish. The staff were pretty good though and offered me a free desert. We had mixed desserts - chocolate mousse was lovely, banana crepes were lovely. Again I scored the doozie and went for the sumptuous sounding whiite chocolate crepes witth raspberry compote...so disappointing...barely any filling, just a smearing of melted white choc and a drizzle of raspberry - the crepes were really dry and uninspiring, really could have done with a lot more filling and some sort of sauce on the side like the banana crepes do (caramel sauce).
A mixed result ! I do live close by, it would be good to have somewhere fabulous to go, maybe I'll try again !

Had a great morning at this cafe. Friendly, quick and helpful service, delicious food and really good coffee.

Good local but please clean the toilets. This place is convenient, casual, nice outdoor area. It is a shame that a place with potential is slack with keeping the bathrooms clean. It doesn't reflect well to have grotty bathrooms eg: is the kitchen clean? Please give them a very good scrub ceiling to floor.

Hot Chicken Wings. Delicious!

Nice food and drinks at reasonable prices. The breakfast menu was a little bit different which was nice, and the raw juice - delicious! The only bad thing was they wouldn't alter any of the dishes... But I will return as the waitresses were very polite :)

Everyone's welcome. Even your best mate.. They have a bowl for your dog, seats inside, half inside, and outside, they have lovely food. The pizzas were great, the Banana Crepes were awesome. I felt like I was welcome, the dog would be welcome. You'll be welcomed. They are even in the Entertainment book for a 25% discount on your meal.

Great place to take your dog. Great place to have coffee and take your dog along. The service was great, coffee excellent and staff very friendly. They brought over a bowl of water for my little dog and made him very welcome, thank you. I will definitely be back.

I have been here several times and every time they are very accommodating for their customers. The service is always great as is the food and the atmosphere is lovely. My favourite local.

Loved it. Stopped off here for lunch and enjoyed the experience. We ordered three dishes of polenta and sweet potato chips, calamari and chorizo. All three dishes presented were well prepared and tasted excellent and it was probably the best lunch I have paid for in a long while. I will certainly return to the Hangout for lunch.

Decent food and great atmosphere. Came here for an afternoon snack and coffee on a Thursday and it was great. Love the atmosphere and the food was satisfying. The owner is friendly and takes great pride in his customer service. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a relaxed coffee and cake.

Very average. We just went for a Sunday lunch we arrived at 11.50 and were advised that the kitchen wasn't open yet, despite the fact the place had been open since 9am. After being told it would be ready to serve food just after 12 we decided to stay. We waited an hour for our food to arrive, and two tables who arrived after us received their food before we did. When we questioned where our food was we were advised that the meals were being "plated up" we proceeded to wait an additional 10mins before receiving our meals. Unfortunately despite the great presentation the food didn't make up for our wait, all of our meals were bland and oozing an excessive amount of oil.

Over all very disappointing. They knocked one of the dishes off our bill but it didn't really make up for the experience.

Average food and average service. Food was OK but nothing special, good presentation was put ahead of functionality and flavour. A long wait for service from disinterested wait staff
