Taka has been around for a long time and hasn't changed much over the years other than a few menu alterations, price increases and, IMO a disappointment, their sushi rolls used to have wasabi rolled up in them but that stopped being a thing a few years ago. There's nothing fancy to their food, don't expect any Japanese artistry, things are just flung together without any care for how things look. No eating with your eyes at this place. lol. But the food tastes great for a quick grab, it's reasonably priced and I recommend after eating it for years, the Agedashi Tofu, any of the Sushi Rolls and the Salmon Don. They also used to have a great prawn dish but that's now unfortunately off the menu.
Prior to Covid-19 they had started to pre-make the Sushi Rolls and sell them throughout the day from a cabinet-type setup. I thought it was a cop-out and the rolls were often stale.
Taka is still good value for money in amongst other options whose prices are now over the top for average food hall takeaway but I'll drop Taka from my regular options if, once they're post-Covid-19 settled, they revert to pre-making their food instead of rolling the Sushi Rolls to order.
The chicken katsu was delicious! I also had the avocado roll and miso soup. Both good. My cravings were satisfied.
I’m a regular customer. The food is quick, filling and hot with the staff very friendly. Decent prices for a decent serving, with the option of a large size which comes with a free miso soup.
Great value in Fremantle. For $15 I got a large chicken katsu with rice AND a nice healthy garden salad. The food was pretty standard and what you would expect at a fast food sort of place but all that for $15 is a bargain! Their wasabi also had a good kick to it.
There are so many options in the food court, but Taka has always been my favourite choice to go to. Super affordable prices for a selection of meals, be it large or small. Their chicken katsu rice and unagi eel rice are my favourite. Efficient service and I find no fault with them :)
This place is good if your looking for cheap Japanese food. Owned and run by Japanese people, although their menu is tweaked to cater for the western tastebuds, it is still quite authentic Japanese cuisine. Their sushis are made fresh to order, their rice are cooked in proper Japanese manner, their teriyaki chicken is delicious! It is a food hall and their turn around is so quick that the trays are normally not 100% dry from being washed.
The Old Shanghi is a landmark is it not. Taka resides here and serves good simple and cheap Japanese. Very good for the pocket and the tummy :)
Always the most popular spot in the Old Shanghai. Cheap and cheerful. The sushi is good and fresh 9 times out of ten, the teriyaki and katsu dishes are also good. The soups are pretty terrible. such a Freo institution, cant see them going anywhere/changing any time.
Very well priced and fresh Japanese food. It's not the best Japanese feed in town but it is good. If you're after a cheap but nice and fresh meal this is the place to go. All meals are made to order and I have never had a complaint, been eating here for years.
Excellent, quick and fresh Japanese takeaway. No frills, not fancy but excellent value. We frequent here for lunch and when we want a quick tasty dinner
We were given a few recommendations to visit this casual Japanese restaurant. It did NOT disappoint. Genuine Japanese hospitality, unbeatable prices (eg a crazy $9.90 for a massive serve of miso katsudon with miso soup) and authentic Chūbu/Kanto flavours. If you love Japanese food then this place is a must.
Considered cheap food in Australia. Their rice is not Japanese rice but it's good enough for me. the portion is big as well
Great Japanese food at economical price. Excellent counter service.
My favorite Karaage in the whole world. A real taste of Japan at amazingly cheap prices.
This has been my favorite place to eat for many years, and despite not being a student with a budget anymore, I can't stop going there.
This place is popular with all types it seems, and is great for a quick bite or a massive feast.
The food is always great, and takeaway is quick. Not to mention HUGE servings for the price.
Truly a fantastic place to eat on a budget, and I even know chefs that eat here, which either says a lot about their wages or the quality of the food (hint: it doesn't matter - just try it yourself)
Proof that quality authentic Japanese Cuisine can be had for a low price in a city where "cheap and good" can be hard to find.
In the ~13 years I've eaten there, they got a takeaway order wrong ONCE.
Just eat there. Do it.
No surprise that this place is always packed up , the value for money is incredible!
Where else can you get a good meal for 2 people + drinks for $24?!
The quality is surprising for the price but it's not top notch. Don't bother get the sushi, it's not worth it.
Great tasting Japanese food at cheap price. Lot of tables and most of the tables were free when i visited for a sunday lunch. Have seen the place gets quite crowded at weekday lunch times.
Always been a fan, quick, low cost food in the city where there are many tables. Their small size dish is perfect meal size for me - not too heavy, just right.
