Review Aluco Restaurant And Bar - Port Douglas

John B Schilt
Dropped into this resort for some late lunch and a beer by the pool. Very pleasant, and very civilised. I can understand that the place may get busy sometimes, and the service levels may suffer , but today it was pleasant and service was great. Crisp chicken burger with shoestring fries was very nice. Coffee afterwards also pretty good. Plenty of seating around the restaurant, verandah or by the pool in front of the lobby. Just a nice atmosphere to relax the afternoon away.

Please don't let the 3 star rating put you off, we nearly did. We had a great night out celebrating a birthday. The food was extremely tasty, huge portions for style of restaurant and the dip trio a must. If you are staying at the sea temple, do your self a favour and treat yourself.

A real Fawlty Towers dining experience. First we were berated for showing up fifteen minutes early despite a close to empty restaurant. Then when we sent back a cocktail with bugs floating in it, that was apparently our fault for sitting outside. Food was delicious, but I’d recommend waiting for a new crop of staff before dining here.

We have dinner at Aluco restaurant yesterday (8.06.22). The location is impressive but food was not that good. I have a steak fat and stuff,(definitely not worth $47.00. my son has fish and chips. Chips smells like burnt oil. Waitresses have not basic skills of serving food. Not recommended.

Really lovely waitress but the girl behind the bar doing coffees (on 16 June) gives this place a terrible name/vibe. The eye rolling at customers and how ignorantly she spoke to the waitress left my husband and I in disbelief.

My husband and I purchased the $165 (each) Christmas Dinner Buffet package, expected to get quality food to match the price. We were sorely disappointed. The seafood was almost inedible. The salad options were average and the kids food not even cooked properly. The dessert was an assortment of store bought cakes arranged to look appealing and some fruit. It was quantity over quality, one of the most disappointing dining experiences we have had in terms of food. The staff however were fantastic, friendly and attentive, and that’s what the two stars are for.

A disappointing end to our first day in Port Douglas with a meal that was underwhelming to say the least. Food was poor and lacked flavour - the prawn and fish dish lacked seasoning and tasted like dishwater. Other meals were average and not what was expected for a bill of $420 for 5 people.

Gave this place multiple chances over the course of our trip. Terribly slow service. Not worth the wait. Original review: Good food. Pleasant environment. Horribly slow service. I think it would be faster to leave the hotel and drive into town for a meal. Over an hour from ordering to food showing up. (15mins to take order). Edit: Added a star after speaking to the manager about it and he was quite accepting of the feedback and said he’d work on improving service. Edit2: Went back for dinner next day. 3 tables were seated and the rest were empty. We were asked to wait in the lounge for a table. As we turned to sit down one of the guests already seated told us they had been waiting over 45minutes for their starters. We drove into town. Check out HiTide for great service.

Very unhappy with buffet breakfast, we paid extra to try the buffet breakfast one morning. The view was great but the buffet breakfast was below average. Eggs were not well prepared and very few options. The food was cold, over cooked or tasteless.

Relaxing atmosphere by the pool. Friendly attentive service. Fish of the day was beautiful. Delicious side vegetables and nice wine list. Recommend for a romantic dinner.

Couldn't agree more with UNO - lucky you missed dinner! We had dinner there last night with a large group - at a late sitting, when the restaurant was virtually empty - still had to wait 2+ hours for mains and when they came - they wouldn't pass for decent take away in Melbourne! Considering the cost of the night and the accomodation (especially considering it is so far from town) you would think they would ensure top quality food - far from it unfortunately!! I would seriously doubt that anyone would willingly return for a second meal - worth the drive into town for a decent meal!

We came here for dinner (despite terrible reviews on their breakfast buffet) and we were surprisingly so impressed with our meals. Blue cheese pannacotta and the scallops with fried quail eggs are a must for entree - both dishes had a great balance of flavours and textures and generous servings too! I had the duck breast for main which was nice and juicy and went well with the purée. Too bad we had no room for dessert.

My biggest frustration though would be the customer service. Staff were very flustered and unorganised despite the restaurant not being busy at all. We had to wait to be seated despite making a reservation and after we were seated it took about 20mins to get our menus (not a good thing when you're hangry!!). They also mixed up our cocktail orders.

Wow, we had to have the buffet breakfast, because we had to go to golf and didn't have time to go into town.
It was pathetic, we have a bigger buffet at home!
Check out the photos, that's it!
The cereal section was dismal, with hardly any accompanying yoghurts, berries etc., scrambled eggs and bacon was watery. Really bad mistake coming here. $32 per adult and $16 per child.

On a positive note, we came here for dinner last night and it was fully booked, so had to go into town!

Phew!!!

Food and service were excellent. Steak was cooked to perfection and duck was delicious. Only criticism, would have liked more than one tiny piece of bread as a starter at the beginning.

Aqua is the restaurant attached to the Sea Temple resort. The restaurant has indoor dining or outdoor overlooking the pool. Every second night the chefs present a themed buffet like Mexican or carvery nights. Lunchtime dining is light and simple.
The resort is a big plus when it comes to cleanliness and professionalism. A very relaxing environment.
Ratings out of 100
Variation of menu: 80
Quality of produce: 85
Service: 85
Cleanliness: 90
Ambiance: 90
Overall Rating: 86
Best meals: A good Caprese Salad. We have eaten here the past two nights as we are staying at the Pullman. The food has been pretty faultless with only one mishap on the cooking of a steak but this was quickly amended with many an apology and free bread. Also a very attentitive bar staffer who was great with suggestions. Prices are high but it is a resort we didn't find service to slow as other reviewers and there was a large conference dinner occurring at the same time we were dining. Our favourite dishes have been the reef fish special both nights.

Seafood platter was delicious. Dined at Aqua on a Tuesday night. had a cocktail before dinner and were offered the choice of moving to a poolside table as I had requested seating inside over the phone. Was much nicer outside! Ordered the seafood platter which was huge! two plates cooked to perfection. standout was the seafood chowder- amazing, so flavourful the Mr rated it better than chowderin San Fran. The barramundi was also so good, crispy skin and soft flesh. Also had dessert, lemon meringue and the chocolate plate, both tasty and well presented. Ambience was nice, very relaxing sitting pool side with dim lighting and music. Waitstaff were attentive as well. We'd definitely go back when in Port Douglas again.

One word describes this restaurant. Poor. Poor food and poor service. At these prices you expect the food to be cooked perfectly, the meals to be delivered within a reasonable time, and at the same time, and your wine to be poured for you. I can forgive the service as the staff have not been trained properly given the lack of product knowledge they displayed. But to overcook seafood in a town like this is inexcusable. To charge upmarket prices for what is essentially pub food is deceitful. A most disappointing evening.

Slow Slow Slow!!!. It took well over 50 minutes to get our meal (no entrée ordered) and while we are sympathetic that night was the first night of a new menu it really wasn't acceptable.

The food was 'nice' when it did finally arrive but it wasn't amazing by any means. Big plate, smallish serving and very expensive. More pretty than satisfying.

Then when we went to pay the bill we had someone else's alcohol tab on it. Shabby.

Tomorrow night we will be going elsewhere.

Food good, shame about everything else. This place is overpriced for what it is, but the food was generally good. The staff tried hard and were friendly. But there were some serious issues in this place... Firstly we had to wait when we arrived for circa fifteen minutes - even though there were about twelve empty tables. Secondly no one thought to offer us a drink while we were waiting. We went to the service bar to get and rinks menu and had to stop a waitress to order the drinks. When we were finally seated, we had some bread and dips. There were four small pieces of bread. Really nothing compared to the dips available (which weren't big), so we asked for a bit more bread - which we were subsequently charged for(!!) . The waiter(esse)s were friendly, so no issues here. Main meal arrived which was excellent. Shame the service wasn't. Ate for a similar price at Harrison's the night after, and we were wowed. Aqua management has a lot to learn about how to feel customers welcome and valued.

Entree was great! Had the prawns with coconut rice. If only my main was as good. I ordered the snapper...the fish came out hard and firm. I found it very difficult to cut and chew. Snapper is not meant to be firm. Wouldn't go back due to expensive prices and quality of cooking. Fish really isn't that hard to
Cook!
