Review Touchwood - Richmond

5 stars to the decent food, great coffee, friendly staff & comfy environment. The Kyoto Scrambled Eggs is on spot. Bagel is delicious, the chili eggs goes really well along with the rich flavor of bonito flakes. A spacious, delightful place to work on your laptop at the non-peak hours :) It’s worth visiting !

Great combination of flavors! Coffee was great, fast service even though they were busy. The only thing that annoyed me a bit was that We sat in the backyard and there was a strange smell that wasn’t really pleasant while having breakfast. But will recommend it and will come back for sure :)

Probably one of a few cafes that I always return to visit. Food and drinks are always on point and good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Only recommendation I have is to put table numbers so it's easier to pay the bill instead of describing to the cashier where we were sitting and what we ate.

Great experience. A little busy but customers service was red-hot, the chefs did a great job and the coffee was fantastic. Our particular breakfast was great.

The steak sandwich they make here is stupidly good. Not even lying when I say it's probably the best sammich I have eaten in Melbs. The meat is divine and so tender and whatever magical unicorn dust they sprinkle on the relish is beyond me. Mind blowing. So pumped I found this joint.

Best breakfast waffles ever! They say you eat with your eyes. The meals were a delight to look at, and they were a delight to taste as well. There was nothing boring on my plate. The colours were vibrant and the flavours were fresh and comforting. My husband had a delicious salmon and avocado breakfast bagel. So vibrant. And of course it started with great coffee.

Very popular cafe on Bridge rd in Richmond but I’m missing the hype here especially getting bang for your buck. Had an oat ‘magik’ (yeah had better) and chilli scrambled eggs (yeah had better) so I think I had such high expectations coming here so I was let down , look it wasn’t bad but like I said I’ve had better and staff not the friendliest bunch which makes the experience the way it was.

Delicious food and friendly hospitality! Was here for an event and there was probably about 30-40 attendees... surprised how quick the staff was at getting everyone their drinks and food. The sushi bowl was yummy. Would definitely recommend considering come here if you have an event.

Wow wow wow. The first thing to hit my mouth was a piece of pork crackle on Touchwood's Eggs Benedict and it was perfect. (1030am, too early for crackle? NEVER!) Touchwood have brought together flavours with so much thought and care, you feel it in every bite. Its a must visit (and revisit). Everything we ordered was amazing. The service was professional, relaxed and friendly. This propells Touchwood up breaching into the rhelms of flawlessness for good service and great food. I haven't brunched like this for a long time. My mates and I shared their - Eggs Benedict (pork belly for the protein), - Wholemeal waffles - Cheesy croquettes - and a salad from their rotational specials menu (from memory pumpkin, quinoa, rocket, pomegranate and broadbeans) I'm not even fan of kale (garnished on the croquettes) but ate it all up. Speaks volumes when a venue can make you enjoy an ingredient you don't fancy. Everything on each plate just came together, complimented and enhanced. Well done and thank you so much to the crew at Touchwood. See you all again soon!

This is probably the best Cafe/Breakfast joint on bridge road. Great Coffee, fast friendly service and great food. We have been coming here for a long time and the only thing that stops me coming more regularly is the lack of menu change or specials. Get the Chefs excited and don't be complacent with your breakfast menu like many other places here in Melbourne. A must do when in Richmond!

We had 8 for lunch including 4 kids. We all enjoyed our lunch. I highly recommend the Sushi bowl and Sunrise smoothie- I’ll be back for both!! Very good service

Seriously delicious food, every time!!!!! We had the sushi bowl, nasi goreng and the chicken bao and all 3 were amazing!!!! The food, the service and the setting is all win win for me and added bonus it’s puppy friendly too!! Fantastic job Touchwood keep up the excellent job

I was so lucky to win a competition with Touchwood. The prize was some great cookies to help with the coronacoaster.

I am really enjoying the Covit references, i.e. "Ive finished netflix" "What day is it?" "I miss you a latte" "Namastay in bed" ... and my personal favorite "Tim in Melbourne" yay hahaha.

When picking up my cookies I grabbed a coffee. My strong skinny latte was perfect, there was some good milk froth, the coffee had a nice earthy flavour and I really liked it.

I am really looking forward to dining in again soon.

Previous review - January 2020.
Time flies. Gosh I haven’t been here in almost 4 years wow!! The service from the front of house was really good and we were seated immediately despite this place bursting w ppl.

I started w a great strong almond latte and my partner had a “Summer Spritz” which was espresso, tonic and a twist of lime. Mmnn hahaha. My coffee was was excellent hahaha

Food wise I ordered the Kaiser Fleish Benedict, a Swiss dish w thick cut bacon, lettuce, heirloom tomato, jalapeño relish, 2 perfectly cooked poached eggs, & apple cider hollandaise on sourdough.

This dish was one of the best bennys that I’ve had in such a long time. The eggs were amazing, the thick cut bacon, moorish and the apple cider hollandaise perfect! Wow I’ve missed this kind of cooking.

My partner had the Breakfast Bruschetta w basil pesto, smoked Mozzarella, heirloom tomato, spinach, onion, pomegranate, mixed seeds, & a poached egg on sourdough toast.

This dish was another winner. A much healthier dish than mine, and full of fresh flavours. This was good but personally I had the winning dish hahaha yay!!!

This place was packed and it’s not hard to see why. See you again Touchwood. This place is a must visit.

April 2016
Good food, busy but great service. Nice coffee, and a reasonable place to visit on Bridge road for brunch. They have an outdoor garden section too. Worth a visit.

The ambiance is nice (tastefully sparse and light) and food as expected - a standard, healthy breakfast menu. A flat 10% extra is added to the bill on weekends. When a simple breakfast is already $20-$25+, this is just outrageous. I will never return based on this alone. Plenty of other, better, cheaper options nearby.
Shannon Krstanac
Had a really nice brunch here, though the menu was quite limited and a tad expensive (sort of understandable due to it being close to the city). Would love some more menu options such as a big breakfast.
Melbourniancritic (The Melbourne Experience)
Touchwood Cafe in Richmond is a modern industrial chic style cafe that is light, spacious and perfect for brunch. They serve great coffee and offer an eclectic menu with a fantastic selection of dishes that are deliciously fresh, innovative and generous in portion size. The drinks menu at Touchwood Cafe is as long as their brunch menu, giving you the choice of various coffee types, cold drip, filter etc, in addition to a variety of teas, smoothies, cold press juices and Mork hot chocolate.

Arrived before 12 pm and it was quite busy. Ordered fairly quickly as we had our kids with us (2 and 4 year olds). After sitting there for over an hour and witnessing nearby tables arriving, eating and then leaving, we asked where our food was. Of course, they had forgotten our order! At this stage, our kids were beyond restless, hungry and tired. So we made a maccas stop instead for our crying children. So disappointed and frustrated. This would have also been avoided had any of the many wait staff checked in when collecting our empty coffee cups or at any point in the 30, 45 or 60 minute mark. Ambience seemed good but clearly service fell wayyyy short of the mark.

Definitely cannot fault this place! Was by far one of the best nourish bowls I have ever had. The taste was amazing, egg cooked perfectly and I was left feeling satisfied.

Coffee was absolutely delish and am a lover of good coffee art so was super excited when a swan appeared 😄

Service was really great; meals came out super fast!

Will def be recommending this one to friends in the area!
The New Fave
There’s a reason why Touchwood in Richmond is always filled to the brim. With its consistently good food, great coffee and ability to split the bill (hallelujah!) it’s the perfect spot for a weekend brunch. Their special of carrot and zucchini fritters served with minted yogurt, smoked salmon and poached eggs is probably one of the best breakfasts in Melbourne (big call, I know!). With flavoursome fritters that are moist on the inside, but still crispy on the outside, it’s the perfect combination of fresh, fried, creamy and crunchy.

Do you Touchwood?

I am sure that you have heard or said this word. And I am pretty sure you knocked on the wood trying to make all the bad luck go away.

The origin behind doing ‘touch wood’ is related to the fact people believed that the trees were the home of fairies, spirits, dryads and many other mystical creatures! So, when someone touched wood, they would awaken and release the wonderful wood fairies and bring all the good luck.

I actually visited Touchwood on a very rainy day and to my surprise on a very busy time too!

I arrived around 12pm on a Sunday, which it is expected to be peak hour, of course due since the weather was quite miserable and it had been raining all morning, I wasn’t expecting to see such a packed and filled with life venue like I did. The venue is located in Richmond and it was so busy that even though it was raining and quite windy, all the seats outside were taken!

Since I hadn’t visit this place before I could only assume that it was a good one! And to be honest I did see on Zomato some opinions about it, but since most reviews are purely focused it the food (versus the place itself) I was certainly surprised by the popularity of this place.

The interior is vast with a very high celling and it’s nicely decorated with some plants and ornaments. The barista station and counter is huge! And all the staff was so welcoming and attentive!

There weren’t many tables available but we managed to find one behind the counter and after asking for meal recommendations and if some meals could be done allergen friendly, here’s what we had:

Five Grain Porridge – this meal isn’t made dairy free usually but after checking with the kitchen they told me it could me done by switching just a few ingredients. It a word it was a pure delight. In its true sense of the word. I am a huge oatmeal lover and specially during winter who doesn’t love a warm and cosy porridge? It was cooked and blended in almond milk and the consistency was just perfect - quite thick but still creamy and just how I enjoy eating porridge the most! The taste wasn’t very sweet but it paired well with the toppings and their natural sweetness. They removed the butter crumble and the berry mascarpone and it came with some fresh strawberries and blueberries, some freeze dried fruits and some pistachios which were crunchy and eye catching. Personally, and like I mentioned to one of the cooks as a friendly suggestion at the end, I think having a slight salty touch to it would bring even more flavour and would work really well here but like the cook mentioned to me (and with reason!) it would be important to notice if the taste didn’t end up too strong ‘stealing’ the focus of the other ingredients. (Side note: love love love these little brainstorming moments from people that clearly have the same passions to create and be innovative with food!). It also came with a berry compote in the middle that was really pleasant to eat. Overall, portion size was great and even though I would personally liked to have a few more fruits, I really loved the fact that it came quite warm and that it was quite different than most porridges found in the winter menus from other venues.

House Smoked Salmon Bagel – my plus one asked for this meal and it came with a nicely presented open bagel, topped with whipped feta, avocado, capers, radish, dill & pickled red onion. The smoked salmon looked very appetising too. The bagel is of a good size although I think it would leave some people still hungry and I think that have some greens on the side could be an interesting option!

Pink Latte - it was such a wonderful drink, with not a very strong or overpowering taste. Beetroot powders are always very challenging because you don’t want people to taste that ‘earth’ like taste and here the flavour was such nailed perfectly. Blended with soy milk and a touch of honey is looked not only beautiful but I would certainly recommend everyone to try!

Almond latte - a classic and delicious latte made with almond milk and with a creamy foam. Latte art was good too! I can see why so many people stop by for their usual coffee!

It was a warm cosy moment on such a miserable day and definitely the highlight of the day! The food came quickly and I was even asked for feedback at the end, (which only shows how much the staff wants to make the customers happy!) as the cooks had experimented with my meal to make it DF. Of course that one final suggestion to have more DF/Vegan meals - I felt a bit limited in regards to the options available and although the staff and cooks are quite flexible and happy to adapt the meals, there are only a few fixed items on the menu allergen friendly. For instance the Wonut (waffle x donut) sounded amazing and so did the bircher with raspberry compote, citrus vanilla yoghurt & mixed seeds! I would certainly love to visit again!

I had lunch at Touchwood with a couple of work friends and really enjoyed it!
I ordered the Nourish Bowl and was very impressed. It was delicious and filling without making me feel sluggish. The flavours were great and all of the ingredients went together beautifully.
There are so many great sounding dishes on the menu and I’d definitely go back to try something else, or maybe even have another nourish bowl.

Buttermilk Waffles 🍓
.
.
I love this spot out in Richmond! 👌🏽 great vibe, great decor and best of all, good quality food! 😉 my personal go-to is always their waffles! ☝🏽crunchy on the outside and soft and tasty on the inside with a delicious peanut butter marscopone on top, you can't go past it! 🥜 This is another dish where smart and simple trump the attempt to put too many flavours together and confuse the palate 😎 fresh, tasty and and a decent serve 😁
.
.
☑ 7/10 for value for money! 😁 for $18, i would have loved two whole waffles, but that could just be me needing to walk out with a food coma to be satisfied 🤔😂 all in all they're a good spot for brunch and coffee with a spacious indoor and outdoor dining area 🙌🏽
.
.
💡 TIP - The chilli scrambled eggs was a damn good option! 👏🏽 with a whole heap of tasty chilli scrambled eggs, it's easily the hunger tamer 🤤

Such a great place. Plenty of space inside and out and the food and drink is delicious. What sets it above others would have to be the brekky board where you get granola, eggs and bacon, avocado etc and an OJ all for around $20. Staff are friendly and it appears to always be open which is nice. Love this place.

I am tired. I have been to Kmart with two rowdy and Hangry kids and it was only 9 am in the morning. Desperate to sit and shut kiddies traps, but not desperate enough for terrible food court food in Vic Gardens, I googled what’s there to eat in Richmond. Touchwood popped up like a beacon of hope and although Bridge Road screams “hard to find a park”, I braved the thought of having my kids walked more than five meters and got to Touchwood.

Thank goodness I read the place is quite big, as it’s already starting to get full. I looked at the specials and I could see blueberry buttermilk waffles. I fought hard and resisted, knowing I had to set a good example for my kids and order healthy food. I got a breakfast board with fried eggs (instead of poached) for Hangry Piglet and Hangry Dumpling , and settled on a Nourish Bowl for myself.

Food came fairly quickly (thank goodness because the kids are saying they are hungry in that whingey Voice), and what we got was, AMAZING. The breakfast board consists of two slabs of thick, beautifully cooked bacon, smashed avo w feta, two fried eggs, a small bottle of orange juice and this crazy out of the world museli with yoghurt.

My nourish bowl was even better, it has sweet potato, broccolini, freekah, nuts, edamame, feta - it’s healthy but it’s also super delicious. Hangry Dumpling actually decided he wanted my food instead, that’s how yummy it was.

Service was great as well. I ordered babycinos with no marshmallows or choc powder (continuing the healthy trend) and the coffee man came out and quickly flash the 100s and 1000s at me to make sure I don’t want that either. It shows that they really care about making sure that the customers are happy and I really appreciate that. 💕💯

We went as a massive group of 10 to Touchwood. They have a lot of space! And a big round table which was perfect for us. We hadn’t booked however they accommodated is very well.

The food was really tasty! Everybody enjoyed what they had and the portion sizes were great!

The menu has so many great options from healthy grain salads to baos to cheeky waffles. There is something for everyone!

Would definitely go back.

I was warmly welcomed upon arriving at Touchwood, into a beautiful open space with stunning wooden floors and an open coffee area. As I made my way to the courtyard, past the open kitchen and seeing the chefs busy at work, it was lovely being able to take it all in.

Food arrived promptly, we ordered the Californian Superfood Salad and the Hickory Smoked Mushrooms, the Pink Paradise Smoothie and the Doctor C Juice.

The Hickory Smoked Mushroom were nice, I was excited as the dish mentioned halloumi and I was expecting perhaps 2 slices however it was little tiny bite sized pieces. A decent amount of avocado which was great!

The Californian Superfood Salad was AMAZING! I was so happy with this dish, the flavours were incredible and I loved the combination of quinoa and kale with the black beans. I added tuna and the serving was a great size.

The smoothie was really delicious, nice and thick with just the right amount of chia seeds. I liked the Doctor C juice too, perfectly balanced.

Touchwood is easy to get too, simply take the 75 or 48 from the city!

The eggs benedict I had at Touchwood would have to be the best i’ve ever had, and eggs benedict is my go-to when going out for brunch. What set it aside from the rest was the inclusion of tomato and lettuce, not something I would have thought of but it was so yummy and added extra flavour and texture. The jalapeño relish added some extra spice but the hollandaise balanced it out and created this amazing flavour. The apple cider hollandaise was so yummy, the eggs were cooked to perfection and the bacon was delicious. This was served on one sourdough piece which honestly was enough, i was comfortably full after my meal. the hot coffee i ordered was also great and the service was lovely. Would recommend coming here!!!

The service here was great, we got seated immediately and shown to our seat. We sat in the back garden area and loved the quiet and relaxing ambiance, the chilli plants were also an interesting touch! We got two great dishes the Avocado Toast and the Eggs Benedict which really stood out from the crowd. The pickled onion on the avocado toast worked extremely well with the other ingredients, making the dish very tasty. The Eggs Benedict was a pleasant surprise, with the bacon being very thick and delicious, while the hollandaise was rich and creamy - just how we like it. Additionally, we got the summer lovin and Dr. C juices. Dr. C was very average but Summer Lovin was absolutely incredible! Paired very very well with the avocado toast to give it even more zing.

Ohh...I like the menu and the food here. I had the Californian Superfood Salad with tuna which was amazingly tasty. The superfood salad had all kinds of yummy morsels like Tri-coloured quinoa, shredded kale, wild organic rice, coriander, charred corn (fresh not from a tin), salted ricotta, black turtle beans, gojis, heirloom tomatoes, jalapeños & a spicy lime vinaigrette. That jalapenos makes a huge difference. This was washed down with an ice coffee. Perfect weekend lunch! My table partner had the eggs benedict which was also really tasty. Overall, really happy with the food and the service. Will have to return again soon.

Had the Buttermilk Waffles. The waffles themselves were fluffy and delicious... and all of the toppings were great but the serving size wasn’t what I was expecting. Next time I would try the breaky board
Stephanie
Tasty breakfast items in a relaxed but lively atmosphere.
Avo toast was yummy and a good size for $16.
Golden latte was average.
Service was definitely top
Quality.

Pleasantly surprised at how big the cafe was!
Loved how spacious it was compared to cramp cafes

I had the House Baked Beans and it was pretty expensive to pay that much for baked beans with one poached eggs. I thought I would’ve gotten two to be honest but despite that at least it wasn’t canned baked beans haha
Andrew Rodrigues
Fantastic food but overall disappointed with table service last Saturday. We sat outside with 2 dogs and had to ask 5 different people to clear away dishes from the previous customers. If I'm going to be charged 10% surcharge on a Saturday, I expect better.
Daniel
The all day breakfast, is there anything more magnificent? Bacon, eggs, halloumi and coffee... at any time of the day this is the recipe for success.
Chloe
Went here for a friends birthday after hearing great things about this cafe. Touchwood did not disappoint! Being a Saturday I was a bit apprehensive as to whether or not we would get a table as it was packed. We were greeted by friendly staff who found us a table straight away.

I ordered the salmon bagel and it was amazing! The Avo had a lovely smoky flavour which went very well with the pickled onion and smoked salmon. We were served very quickly and the presentation was great!

A nice place to have brunch in Richmond. It’s very spacious inside and outside. The menu is filled with classics amped up a level. Coffee is by Five Senses. Customer service is okay, staff are welcoming most of the time.

Came here to study and enjoy a nice cup of coffee (end up with 3 cups). The coffee here are from 5 sense and I got the yirgzero from Ethiopia. Really clean finish. Love the environment, definitely recommend here

Went for brunch on Saturday, so very happy to see that our food arrived fairly quick after ordering. The food was okay, nothing remarkable unfortunately.

touch wood you receive all your meals at the same time . Disappointing visit today when 3rd meal was served 25 minutes late. Wouldn’t recommend coming at busy times

“Knocking on wood”

Thought I’d try a new joint for a Mother’s Day brunch and found this.

We were quite hungry and looking forward to some good dishes. We had their Cayenne Prawn Tacos with Smashed avocado, cabbage slaw, coriander & chipotle aioli. I really didn’t enjoy them as the tacos are on the dry side whilst the prawn didn’t feel fresh and the ingredients accompanied didn’t blend well.

The kids also tried the ham and cheese toasties and the cheese tasted watery and the ham had no taste but the sourdough bread was nice.

We also had their Pulled Pork Baguette with Pickled pineapple, carrot, cabbage slaw, cucumber, fresh chilli, black sesame seeds & coriander. This sounded mouthwatering but once again the baguette was too tough & chewy. The ingredients were tasty though! It would be better advice to introduce a softer type of bread or a nice brioche bun.

Then it was desert rime and we were excited and craving for some Churros, but unfortunately they were a bit bland but the Nutella dipping sauce made up for it.

Visiting a friend in Melbourne we had heard good things at Touchwood.
Our experience was far from pleasant.

Arrived on a Sunday morning seated instantly but waited a good 10 minutes for a waitress & menus (actually I had to go and ask for both)

Coffee was okay, served luke warm - ordered the coconut soy milk matcha latte.

Food: my friend ordered the bubble & squeak special she had no complaints.

I had the waffles. Quite disappointing for the price. One COLD waffle with a dollop of yogurt & fruit ?? No sauce!! The macadamia crumble & coconut sounded exciting on the menu but was almost invisible ... after waiting for 45 minutes for food we just couldn’t be bothered.

You’s weren’t overly busy & had a waitress in particular standing around looking dazed 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ we had waited 45 minutes for food when people who were seated AFTER us were getting their meals before ours.

Really unimpressed guys.
Jimmy Anderson
I actually resisted trying here for quiet some time (normally because there was a wait) but after having brunch one weekend many months back I can see what the fuss is about. Great food, coffee, staff and a it is a really good space to do a bit of mid week work over a latte.

Lovely coffee, hot chocolate and juices. We love the food too. Could get very busy on weekends but it's still pretty good to have a meal at this place.
Eater123
We had great service it was very attentive. A long wait on a Sunday it's rather a trendy spot. The food was tasty and there's a fair bit to try in the menu but it would be great if we could order the lunch menu earlier
Eat Talk Laugh
Coffee was 10/10.
Went down really well with the waffle for afternoon tea - good mix of fruity flavours.

The setting is a bit undone though - lots of bare walls and empty spaces. For a cafe of this size, I would think the possibilities are endless for amazing decor.

But then again I guess it's the food that really matters and that was spot on.
Sarah Allen
Busy cafe, but we didn’t have to wait too long for a table for two. Staff are friendly. Cute plants around. Coffee is nice. The waffles were really yummy, it wasn’t a big serve but enough to feel full. Delicate fresh berries and frozen rhubarb were a nice combination with the waffle and pear yogurt. Overall it was a lovely cafe 💜

It was a sunny weekday, me & my friend was planning to go to the city with the tram, when we were passing through richmond , we encountered few people talking about this restaurant and thats when we decided we would like to give it a try.

Food:
Dr marty’s crumpet for me was really lovely! soft in the middle, crunchy parts on the outside, which i really like!perfectly cooked with banana & syrup was perfectly blend together. Sweet and pretty presentation too. Touchwood double cheese burger as a whole has no wow factor but the taste was amazed me!perfectly cooked, lightly flavour classic of cheese burger. The chips were not oily like some other burger places. Very recommended!

The place itself was quite nice with the famous art graffiti by #bouzyrouge in the wall besides the cafe. The ambience was airy, bright and the staffs were very kindly even though they were so busy. Nice servings and perform well. Good job!

Overall, would recommend this cafe to everyone! I’ll be back again;)

#BHAsFoodDiary

We have been here several times for breakfasts. Coffee and food are consistently good. Serving is just right and not too big. Nice avocado and perfectly poached eggs are always delivered. I like their pumpkin bread too.

Coffee is average, food is below average. My scrambled eggs at home taste better. Definitely over rated save your money and time. You’re welcome.

A fairly spacious cafe along Bridge road with many colourful plates atop wooden tables and furnishings.

Visited on a weekday in a group of 4, and we were promptly seated at a round table for 4. There were several groups of 2s and 4s as well as individuals popping by for a coffee.

The food was beautifully presented with lots of colour and fun radiating from the dishes. I had the "Sushi bowl" which was like a deconstructed sushi with a salmon tail fillet on the top. It was also accompanied by some sauce (not pictured) which helped to mix the ingredients, especially the rice. The other dishes ordered were "Wholemeal waffles", "Avocado toast" and "Passionfruit pannacotta (weekly special)".

Overall pretty good experience, might come back if I find myself in the area.

A very ample space found in the heart of Richmond, this cafe holds about 120 seats, perfect for a long catchup with friends without all the typical background noise of a busy cafe.

I dined here on a Friday afternoon which fortunately for us it wasn’t very busy on arrival so we were attended to and seated quite promptly. The pink latte - a beetroot latte with soy and honey, oh boy what an amazing coffee! I was weary to try it at first but to my surprise it was such a delight to drink down to the very last drop. For our breakfast we opted for the Cheesy Croquettes and Eggs Benedict and much like the pink latte they were thoroughly enjoyed, and they arrived at our table in less than 20 minutes! Our only disappointment was that we couldn’t have more! The bacon jam on both dishes were great and what seemed like a little definitely went a long way! I would’ve probably liked to get a more smoky taste after the sweetness subsided but there was plenty going on in my plate to help diffuse the sweet taste. The pork crackling on the Eggs Benedict my partner found was a bit lacking and quite hard to bite through, but I suppose this was more of a subjective opinion and it all comes down to preference.

Overall we had a good experience that lends itself a return visit if ever we are in town again. The space is double fronted along with an outdoor area in the back so I would say it is quite pram-friendly and would highly recommend this place for those who want to brunch with their families or in groups.

Went for breakfast at 11am this morning (Saturday) and was sat straight away outside. Service was friendly and attentive and the food was very quick!
BIRCHER QUEEN 👑
I visited this cafe at 1pm on a Monday. I like sweet bircher but this dish was almost too sweet. The bircher itself, which was mainly just oats with the odd goji berry throughout it, was actually quite bland however the yoghurt and raspberry sauce on top was extremely sweet. The oat crunch sprinkled on the side was delicious. Time between ordering and receiving my meal was less than 5 mins.

Good all rounder Melbourne brunch experience

Good ambience with a little industrial dumpster chic typical of Melbourne brunch scene. Ample paid street parking. Very generous and spacious and as such extremely pram friendly. Tried the eggs Benedict and it was nice and interesting. They do serve single origin coffees and make some very decent coffee. Staff were friendly and personable. Overall very nice experience. Ok
Secret Chef
On a really hot Saturday we came down to this really nice looking cafe and the interior was really welcoming. At first I didn't know if you had the order at the front first or you could sit down anywhere.

Waitresses and waiters were nice and quick with the orders and delivered our meals swiftly during a busy lunch. Well done!

I ordered a sunrise smoothie which was delicious in every way. I really like the sweetness and the tangyness to the drink as the berries really complimented everything else.

My partner had the iced coffee and the coffee was nice, but preferably have ice cream to go with the drink so it could be sweeter. We had to put a bit of coconut sugar to sweeten it but that is our preference. But coffee itself was impressive.

The food was amazing as I had the eggs benedict which I highly recommend and my partner had the pulled pork baguette. The eggs benedict worked really well with the pork belly and was surprised how well the jalapeno hollandaise held everything together so well with the bacon jam and poached eggs.

The pulled pork baguette was really well done as the pork was tender and really tasty. The bread was not stiff and was easy to eat, though it can be a bit messy as I had to section it just to make it easier for me to eat everything at once.

Overall was really good and different and would like to come and taste other meals in the future.

Touchwood is my go to brunch place in Melbourne. Their coffee is consistently silky and full bodied. My all time favourite dishes are Californian Super Salad & Chilli Scrambled Eggs 🤤😋
Servings are so generous, almost too big if I'm going to be honest (But I am not complaining!!!!)
Staff are always friendly there and attentive. Highly recommend Touchwood to anyone who's looking for an outstanding Melbourne Brunch spot! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Delicious... mexican chicken salad was so yum! Also had the special Spheresso.. frozen expresso & salted caramel served with warm milk, the novety was fun but the coffee hit the spot.
Outdoor seating was lovely.
The only bug bear was that the water glasses were way too hot that we couldnt drink from them.
Friends had sushi bowl & cheeseburger- both enjoyed them also.

Really good food slightly pricy but it's not bad. Also the seating area at the back is really nice (the courtyard) especially when it was empty!

Went to the Touchwood cafe in Richmond for a little brekkie and I was definitely not disappointed! I devoured the waffles with peanut butter mascarpone and a turmeric latte, and my partner the big brekkie :) one word - DELICIOUS!
The staff were lovely, atmosphere/venue beautiful and definitely worth a visit 😍

have been here several times and has never disappointed. The menu is always packed with goodness and there isn’t anything i wouldn’t order! would highly reccomend this cafe if you’re in richmond

Visited this place with my sister while we were in the area. I felt like something sweet so I tried the wholemeal waffles. They were amazing!! The coffee was good too. Service was great. Highly recommend this place! I'll be back.

Came here with my friend. I've had their special Acai Chia Pudding and my friend got her waffles and iced coffee with an ice cream scoop. I've to say, it's so so. The pudding is blend, only flavour I could taste was from the fruit, also goji berries on the menu which are not in my dish🌚🌚🌚Waffle is also plain flavour, and too sweet, a little bit over🙁🙁🙁

Not valuable.

Large space, friendly staff, quiet and wifi provided!
Coffee,it is OK.
Avocado on toast.
Beetroot relish,a bit sweet.
Pickled onion, slight acid.
Avocado, really too much for me,can be one avocado.
It comes with pumpkin toast,average.
Don't like seeds hidden under the eggs. They just feel like being put on the avocado simply, which can be used to improve the presentation with less seeds.
Poached eggs,good.
Smoked salmon, not salty and cut thinly, more likes cured salmon.
I added lots of lime juice and little salt to increase the flavor. The combination of them became so good! Without the lime and salt, the dish would be plain.
Pretty impressed with the brunch offerings here at Touchwood. When I struggle to decide what to order as there is no obvious standout dish, that's what I call a good cafe.
On this occasion I tried the smoked mushroom dish, but traded the balsamic vinegar for their jalapenos aioli. The avo portion was generous for today's prices and was deliciously creamy. Mushrooms had a subtle but gorgeous smokiness. The rest of the accompaniments (haloumi, cherry tomatoes, spinach) were chopped up to small and mixed together and got lost within the dish but was still delicious nonetheless. Poach egg was perfectly runny. Thumbs up!

Coffee was good and service was pretty spot on.

Also saw a local TV celeb in here whilst having brunch... here I am mingling with high society, lol.

Food: 10/10 - lots of great options with the chicken bao being a favourite
Service: 7/10 - understaffed at busy times so you almost have to ask for a table/the menu at times
Atmosphere: 8/10 usual Richmond cafe deck out

Fantastic!
This place is huge, there may be a short wait but it's worth it.
We came here grand final morning and the coffee machine was broken down but by the time we had finished our meal it was back and running and my iced latte was fabulous.
The meals were great and such a generous serving, I couldn't finish mine.
We also got a donut to go which was as tasteful and it was pretty.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the all-round quality of Touchwood.

I arrived with my family on a whim. We ordered drinks and all enjoyed coffees and smoothies, but the mains had arrived before we could finish them. The staff were quick and very friendly, yet the atmosphere still felt calm and relaxing.
Our meals all looked great and tasted twice as good, and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of vegan-friendly options. But the two most impressive things were the portion sizes and the price.
For example: I had the smashed avocado toast which was already vegan (adding egg is optional). I got two thick pieces of toast and more avocado than I've ever been served at any other restaurant. It tasted delicious and was thoroughly filling.

Visited here for a coffee. Had the green latte. Was very tasty and the flavours blended well together. My friend had the hulk smoothie, which she said was perfect in helping her recover from her cold. Have yet to try any of the food here but it did look very nice.
The staff were friendly and very attentive! My order came out quickly. Would definitely come back here again.

Spacious cafe with friendly staff and tasty brunch options. After doing some reseaech, my husband and I shared their chilli scrambled eggs and eggs Benedict with pork (love the addition of crackling). Scrambled eggs were very fluffy but it would have been better with a stronger chilli hit. Both were a good change to the usual cafe options. Kids eggs, toast and bacon were a decent size as well.

For drinks, we had their green smoothie, cappuccino and mocha which were nice and smooth. When we were paying for the bill they had tempting display of cookies and pastries on display which we had to skip as we were too full.

Touchwood is always fabulous. Friendly staff, fast food service and fantastic food! Their gluten free bread is delicious, servings are nice and generous, and their menu is extensive with a great choice. Coffee is always spot on. Their salad options are great - the superfood salad is always tasty and the Mexican chicken salad is crisp, healthy and delicious!
Louise Booth
I ordered the chilli scrambled eggs and was pretty impressed. Generous serving with nice chunks of bacon inside and the toast was great!
I have had nicer eggs at top paddock which were cooked and seasoned better but these were still very good. Could have done with more chilli too.

The coffee was amazing though. My friend ordered the pork benedict and I tried a bit of that and it tasted amazing!! The pork was soft and sweet. One of the best I've ever tried.
Anna Singh
A popular cafe and for a good reason. Friendly, efficient, excellent service. All day breakfast, good coffee, nice atmosphere and chilli scrambled eggs to die for. It was my first time and I will be back.
Happy Egg 🍳
Came here with a friend to have brunch on a Tuesday and it was really great! The space is really open and there weren't too many people since it was a weekday. The bircher was amazing and definitely satisfied my bircher cravings!! There was a generous serving of fruit and it was just overall yum💗 The wholemeal waffles were delicious also! Wish I lived closer to here so I could visit more often. Highly recommend!
Just A Girl Who Loves Food
Delicious food! One of the best smashed avos I've had and the breakfast salad is my go to. Was in a rush when I went in today and the staff were very accommodating and the found was out in about 5 mins! Great service and great food.

One of the best chilli scrambled eggs in Melbourne.

Three Bags does a really good one too, and Touchwood is close.

I've been to Touchwood multiple times and I've had the chilli scrambled eggs and there cheeseburger.

The balance of flavours in the scrambled eggs was delicious and the burger was juicy. Highly recommend you come here if you live around in Richmond.

Bonus; there coffee is good too.
Mrs Mark
Went here for a weekday lunch. The service was a bit hit and miss and they got our coffee orders incorrect (even though they clarified our order with us). I had the sushi bowl with salmon which was fresh, light and flavorsome.
Chef Gabriel
My breakfast experience was outstanding. All four of us were super impressed with our meals. Good quality and quantity. Good coffee really good service in this special cafe.

Big, spacious brunch spot in Richmond with backyard seating, very suitable for large groups and families. Friendly and fast service with interesting menu items.
We ordered the #matcha latte# as well as the #pink latte#. The matcha latte was very average but surprisingly the beautiful beetroot latte was really nice! The frozen dry strawberries flakes added extra sweetness into it. It did had quite unique taste but I enjoyed it very much.
#Double Cheese Burger#-double beef patty with pickles, lettuce, bacon, BBQ sauce and shoe string fries. The bun was soft, and fries were good! However, the patty meat was little chewy and less juicy.
#crispy chicken bao#-make yourself the Bao by putting crispy fried chicken meat and home made kimchi into the soft steamed bun. Loved the extra crispy shell of the chicken, and everything combined pretty well. Recommend!
Michael Dunne
Really cool quirky cafe with super coffee and really tasty diverse brunch menu. Have the waffles which were good but girlfriend had prawn tacos which were amazing and definitely worth ordering. Coffee is amazing and you can buy a bag of the ground coffee for $10. Great spot!
Nick X Thomson
Great service, really cool setup and a satisfyingly diverse menu. I throughly recommend their Prawn Taco dish, if this is a meal that takes your fancy. Prices were reasonable for a cafe in this area.

Wow wow wow.

The first thing to hit my mouth was a piece of pork crackle on Touchwood's Eggs Benedict and it was perfect. (1030am, too early for crackle? NEVER!)

Touchwood have brought together flavours with so much thought and care, you feel it in every bite.
Its a must visit (and revisit).

Everything we ordered was amazing.
The service was professional, relaxed and friendly.
This propells Touchwood up breaching into the rhelms of flawlessness for good service and great food. I haven't brunched like this for a long time.

My mates and I shared their
- Eggs Benedict (pork belly for the protein),
- Wholemeal waffles
- Cheesy croquettes
- and a salad from their rotational specials menu (from memory pumpkin, quinoa, rocket, pomegranate and broadbeans)

I'm not even fan of kale (garnished on the croquettes) but ate it all up.
Speaks volumes when a venue can make you enjoy an ingredient you don't fancy. Everything on each plate just came together, complimented and enhanced.

Well done and thank you so much to the crew at Touchwood. See you all again soon!
Jo
easy to get a table as it's relatively a big cafe compared to other spots. had the eggs benedict, mushrooms with avo and a donut - eggs could have used more hollandaise sauce and the going rate for avocados these days are 2 for $5.. so what's up with the tiny morsels of avo in my dish? donut tasted quite stale like the bulk buy ones from woollies/Coles/Costco. in any case, dishes were pretty meh. might come back only if I need to brunch with a big group.
Ruth Vo
A fabulous family friendly venue with awesome food and perfect coffee!!! I had the sushi bowl which was fresh and flavoursome and just the right size. We also had crispy chicken bao and the double cheeseburger, which were all absolutely delicious. In fact my daughter said her crispy chicken was the best dish she has ever eaten!!!! Big call because we have been to many of Melbourne's best eateries.
Anyway I can't recommend it more! Do yourself a favour and try it for yourself
Lisa Giles
Really spacious cafe, with many appealing menu items and a few daily food and drink specials. I ordered the prawn tacos and they were absolutely delicious! No complaints. A couple of my friends ordered the nasi goreng and both said it was a bit sweet, another ordered the avo on toast #2 and loved it. Service was decent. Would return to try more items in the future.

I first saw Touchwood when driving through Richmond a couple of years ago and wondering what the queues were all about. On a quieter Thursday morning just recently I finally popped in for a breakfast. It was cold outside and not too warm inside either. The interior was quite pleasant and spacey and we were shown a table quickly. Coffee orders taken and also quickly delivered. Strong pleasant coffee. I ordered the waffles with berries and a mascarpone cream. I should say here that I normally don't choose sweet breakfasts but felt the need to try something different. I wish I hadn't because I didn't enjoy the mascarpone at all. There was something about the texture that just didn't work for me and I was overall disappointed with the meal. I found myself eyeing up the avocado poached egg breakfast my wife had ordered. She really enjoyed her meal and the relaxed read of the newspapers. I left wondering what all the queues were all about.
Delightfullytasty
Located on Bridge Road about a 10 minute walk from the outlets/retail stores, Touchwood is a large cafe with a great range of breakfast and lunch, sweet and savoury options as well as a display cabinet of small goodies. The cafe is easily accessible by trams 48 or 75, and there's plenty of parking on the side streets.
Yourmelbournefoodguide
Tried the chili scrambled eggs which were yum but fit out was a bit odd, very standard looking. Parking is also an issue being restricted to bridge rd

Relaxed outdoor seating out back, nice coffee. I ordered the grain salad with poached egg and bacon - salad was hearty with lots of nuts, fruit, and a nice dressing. The poached egg was perfect soft and runny, and bacon was a nice addition to jazz up a dish I'd normally find too healthy for brunch! My friends ordered the smashed avo which look very good as well however the eggs benedict was a tiny portion and the pulled chicken was disappointing. Overall nice brunch but could have used quicker and warmer service.

I have been here a couple of times. The first time the staff were rude and it felt like they really didn't want to be there. However the second time they were much nicer. The smashed avocado and coffee are great. Unfortunately the wholegrain waffles are boring and not sweet enough.
Lily
I've been here many times - the best one on the bridge road precinct! I had the breakfast tacos last weekend and it was DEVINE! Plenty of wet and dry ingredients; and the taco shells were thick enough not to break when you pick them up and eat them like a little grub :) I've also had both of their 'smashed avo on toast' options and can't make up my mind which one was better! Definitely not the worst problem I've got going right now! The coffees here are great too, a tad weak for my liking but next time I'll just order a strong one!
Good Food Good Mood
I'm going to have to deduct some points due to the temperature in here. It was an exceptionally hot day and we were all sweating to death due to the lack of air conditioning. We got the banana bread special to share which we couldn't resist and I had the Dr Marty's Crumpets which were okay but a bit sweet with the honey and banana. I was hoping my Doctor C juice would balance it but it didn't really. I love a cold pressed juice but I do prefer when cafes have a freshly juiced offering. Probably should have ordered the breakfast tacos but next time I'd rather go to Reunion and Co which I personally prefer and is literally next door. I do enjoy the street art on the corner though (technically belonging to bouzy rouge)

I love this place! I work from home and was looking for a place to escape during the day. The staff are fantastic, always so friendly and attentive. Every single meal (the avo toast, the curried pumpkin toast, the beetroot and Hummus toast) I've tried has been delicious. The smoothies are also to die for (particularly the green hulk and the ginseng). Added bonus of free wifi, outlets, and a make shift standing desk, this place is my dream come true.
M_James
Really nice and inviting venue. I like to sit at the back, as the chairs are more comfy, not a fan of little stools. Poached eggs are nicely done. Smashed avo is divine! Great coffee and staff!
Krystal
This place is always 5/5 when I go there. It has two different ways of having smashed avo and the one with the beetroot and onion was amazing! The service and coffee is always good!
Varun Jani
Great customer service. Great food. hVe been here twice and the food is delicious and consistent. The staff here is very polite. Highly recommended
Nishi
Coffee is amazing. Every time I have a coffee here it is consistent and perfect! The staff always have a friendly smile and up for a chat... this is my local! Food is also top notch!
Some Like It Hot
I like the spacious venue but service was lacking, coffee and food nothing special. Too many other Cafes to go too to bother going back. I had the scrambled eggs with chilli, I've had better sourdough and I did order it without the bacon so maybe that affected the flavour.
Samara J.
This place has a wonderful little courtyard.. Sometimes can get a little cramped. The eggs and coffee are particularly good and consistent. The staff are friendly and attentive.
CLABEL
The place is very convenient as it is directly in front of the tram stop. I came like around 11 and it wasn't too packed, only waited for a few minutes and we got a table outside. We got breakfast tacos and schilli scrambled egg for savoury dishes. They were alright, not too bad but not awesome as well. The tacos are for the vegetarian as it has no meat, I think the flavour was not quite there yet, like missing the punch. The chilli scrambled egg was cooked beautifully but again lack in flavour. Then we decided to have the wholemeal waffle for sweets but it turned out to be disappointing as the waffles was nothing special about it. The texture is hard, I thought it supposed to be crunchy on the edge but soft in the middle. Also the syrup was too thick, the sugar cane, meringue and cream were too overpowering the whole dish. I think we should've ordered the special waffle instead of the normal one. The service was not bad, it was friendly and prompt.
Live_in_melbourne
Delicious food with great coffee and friendly service! The burger was simple, but really juicy and fresh. The open sandwich was so filling and tasted so good. Had a very happy time here, and would definitely visit again.
Juanlin
Spacious cafe! Free wifi and nice big tables, good for catch ups and meetings over coffee! There was a wide selection of food as well and it came in generous servings. Ordered the breakfast tacos that came in soft shells. Would come back again to try their coloured lattes too!
French_Toasted
Have been coming here for a year or so and they never disappoint us! Coffee, food and service is always excellent! Lovely place for weekend catch ups. Most recently we had avocado toast #1 and the Touchwood massive. Very cute, and well thought out dishes. Must try their caramello #2 smoothie. So good!

Wanting to cover all the best brunch places (65 of them) on the urbanlist, I was excited when a friend recommended to meet at touchwood for brunch.

The walk along bridge road is truly a sight for all senses. So many nice cafes, shopping outlets, bars with really good deals and pop ups.

Touchwood is conveniently located across a tram stop (48 and 75). It has an outdoor seating area, balcony seats, two sets of indoor seating area.

Apparently you need to stand near a wall to get the concierge/seating person to find you with the clipboard and have you seated. Thank god for table service as the queue just for take away coffee goes out the door.

Once we were seated on two bar stools and encroaching on the space of a trio of guys, it was difficult to get the wait staff attention. I waited for about about 15 minutes before my friend grabbed us some menus.

By the time the waiter arrived we had decided on our food and were desperate for coffee.

We ordered a long black, skim cappucino, the sticky coconut quinoa pudding and the roasted curry pumpkin with brussel sprouts, kale, poached egg and goats cheese on bread.

We received our coffees at different times and my friend and I both complained about the small coffee cups. Coffee is delicious though and strong. While waiting for our food, the trio of guys seated next to us each ordered the chilli scrambled eggs which looked scrumptious and creamy. They also got a side bowl of crispy French fries. Ooh and coffees. Its funny to see guys replacing their burgers with healthier options. :)

The sticky coconut quinoa pudding was absolutely scrumptious. My friend and I shared it because it would have been too filling for for one person. It has pistachios, a variety of fresh fruit (raspberries, kiwi, apple, blueberries) and pieces of coconut. Its very starchy so must be cooked with coconut milk. Yumm

The curries roast pumpkin was bursting with so many flavours. I think I tasted cumin and saw some sesame on my plate. We didn't get any brussel sprouts. Just their leaves. Fail. Also got lots of kale leaves. The poached egg was nicely done. The goats cheese was bursting with flavour and went well with the pumpkin. The bread was delicious and easy to cut into it and the right balance between toasted and soft. I did think the dish was overpriced as you only get one slice of toast, one egg, and a little bit of pumpkin for 17 dollars.

All up our bill was 40.10.

Service - negative
Coffee size - below average
Food and coffee - spacewalks
Vibe - noisy

Nice decor and cafe, but so, so big they try to bite off more than they can chew. I've been here a couple of times when my favourite down the road (Lumberjack) is shut, and I'm not disappointed, but never really satisfied.

1) Was charged $20 for an ice coffee and a small sized Bircher muesli - pardon?

2) Ordered bacon, mushroom and 2 poached eggs on toast. Didn't receive that. Got one container with toast, the other with bacon. And that was it.

I feel like they're just inconsistent and although the large crowds and mixed reviews may give off a different vibe to what I am right now, they're not a cafe that's all about food. Just about money and the social media aspect of it.

Thanks Touchwood.
Nick Moffatt
Enjoyed breakfast here. Lots of tables. Outside as well. Breakfast was huge. Scrambled eggs were piled on nice sour dough bread with some lovely crispy bacon. Coffee also great. Try it.
Joel Baring
The staff were friendly. Unfortunately, did not enjoy the food and the coffee that was ordered. We ordered the waffles which were very very tough. The crumpets were tough as well.
Perhaps go for the savoury dishes if you decide to go to touchwood.

Came here for brunch with a friend on a Saturday morning. The place is quite big, bug it needs to be with how busy it gets. Smashed avo was really good and reasonably priced. Service was a bit slow but staff were pleasant! Nice place for casual breaky.
Steph
Really cool place! Coffee was amazing & the food was just as good. We felt very looked after and comfortable from the minute we stepped in.
Megan Smith
An appealing and quirky shopfront. I came for breakfast with my boyfriend, we took awhile to decide what we wanted for breakfast but its safe to say we loved the breakfast burrito. Great range of juices/smoothies. Quick and efficent staff. Bravo

The Sahely siblings have no shortage of popular cafes under their belt and are behind Barry and Pillar of Salt. Touchwood completes their powerhouse trio in Richmond on the busy Bridge Road dining strip. Having visited all three establishments now, there is a clear theme that runs through all of them – good food, good coffee and catering for everyone.

Came here on a Saturday morning with my BF at around 11am and only had to wait 15 minutes- what a result! I've been here a few times before and tried numerous options on the menu and this time I got the burger whilst my BF got the smashed avo- was quite funny when they brought the meals over and instantly placed the burger in front of him, reminded me of white chicks... and for the lady- perhaps a salad? perhaps not. Anyways... I thought I could handle the burger but it was too big! Probably not for normal people but i STRUGGLED :( The chips on the side are so bloody good, if I could do a little takeaway bag I would. My BF said the smashed avo was really really good and the eggs poached to perfection. My only suggestion is that the staff need to be a bit more attentive, they seemed to be all over the place- maybe they need more staff on? Looking forward to coming back though :)

Touch and go. Touch wood is what you do for good luck. And that's what l did this week when a friend with significant dietary requirements and l were catching up. Sight unseen, we chose this place based on the menu with its interesting salads.

The food is actually pretty good - we ordered the 'nourish' vegan salad and substituted real cheese for the chestnut version, and the Californian salad with tuna, about $17 &$21 respectively.

But it took ages for our order to arrive - meaning that the table next to us arrived later and received food before we did. It took over 40 minutes for our two salads to show up.

I didn't pay & was gifted a pretty amazing raspberry and pistachio cupcake with cream cheese frosting. Delicious.

Would be worth going back assuming they could pick up the pace.
Nathan
Stopped in for a quick coffee. Service was quite prompt and the coffee wasn't far off the mark. I took a squiz at the many and I wasn't that excited by it.

Been hear quite a few times . One of my favs :) love the chilly scrambled eggs . Sometimes very generous sometimes a little less . I usually get sides too :) Wait staff lovely , helpful and never to far away if you need something . Sweets selection Devine a bit pricy perhaps $6 for a cupcake ?

Nevertheless will return as their food is spot on nasi goreng my friend had today was amazing too !

You won't be disappointment :) enjoy !

Food 5/5
Service 5/5
Ambiance 5/5
Food very underwhelming and service quite slow. One salad gritty and the chicken was not at all nice. The other was okay but a bit tasteless and not worth the cost.
When staff asked about the meals, and the response given that unfortunately it wasn't really that good, the waitress barely registered and walked off. If you don't care about the feedback- don't bother to ask!

I had brunch at Touchwood this morning with my 4 girlfriends. Arrived at about 10.30, ordered within 10 minutes. Our breakfast took 50 minutes to come out. Spoke to the manager and there was little empathy shown, they did take the coffees off the bill though. My sister was forced to take her food in a take away bag as she had work and didn't have enough time to eat it. I was driving her so I couldn't relax and enjoy my meal I had to scoff it down in a hurry. We definitely won't be back!!
G
A rather busy cafe that is able to seat large groups of people.
Would say the size of this cafe is large in comparison to cafes found in Melbourne.
Servers in the cafe really make it a point to make you feel that you're well taken care of, and service is relatively prompt considering the how busy it was that morning.
The prawn tacos are a good option of you're looking for a savoury yet not-so-filling brunch.
Expensive Delicious Habit.
I skipped along to Touchwood last weekend. The cafe's fit out is lovely but noisy. The latte art was pretty too! We had a good breakfast- I tried the breakfast tacos. Nothing outstanding but a solid performer.

Bridge Road, Richmond was once a bustling hive of activity, lined with some of the best shops Melbourne had to offer. Today its a shell of its past self, the crowds have gone, the number of vacant shops grows faster than new ones appear and sadly, many remaining shop owners find themselves fighting for survival. Despite this, there are some businesses that continue to thrive, proving that if you offer an exceptional product people will come. One such business is Touchwood.
Matt Meinema
Had the chilli omelette, awesome taste but lacked in chilli, was expecting a little more of a 'kick'. Coffee and atmosphere good. Would be back but probably try something else on the menu :)
Loulou
This has been on my book marked list for a while and finally got the time to give it a go, the cafe was a lot bigger and spacious than anticipated. The decor was simplistic, staff were nice but not overly welcoming.
Food options were limited but oh so tasty !
Throughly enjoyed our smoothies and meals.
Will be back if back in the area.
Laur.gleadell64
My son took me here the other day with his wife. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the café, which was warm and inviting. The staff seemed slightly inattentive and we had to wait for long periods for assistance. However, when we were served, we were greeted with a warm and friendly staff member, and their positivity almost managed to negate the time we had to wait receive service. I did enjoy the coffee, although it was served a little cold, despite my request for hot coffee. Perhaps what was the best part of the trip, was the amazing prawn tacos- they were simply divine! Normally I like to stick to my classic toast and eggs, however my daughter in law insisted I try the prawns, something I'm very very glad I did! will be back again for the tacos
Maria Rancie
Really like this place. The salads are interesting and tasty. The coffee and smoothies are good too. The turmeric latte is tasteless, but the beetroot latte is quite nice. The service is friendly and it's roomy, so you don't feel crowded and you can have a conversation freely. The food is above average, and stacks up well in a competitive area.
TweeVy Ngo
Nice, clean venue. A few varieties and specials on their menu board. Good place for brunch. The dishes were presented quite beautifully with an array of bright colours.

The cajun prawns were succulent with a good balance in the prawns spiciness and the sweetness from the salad. However their 'Touchwood massive' was not too special. It was a generic breakfast with very little difference in flavours presented on the plate. The most disappointing part is the breakfast was not massive... or even big.
Gemma Vaughan
Best Salmon and avo I've ever had. Whoever the chef is on Saturdays does a great job, always visit every two to three weeks and never changes with the quality of the food (excellent)
Emma Louise
Touchwood never disappoints! It's such a buzzing. Place and every dish I have had I've never been disappointed in!! Defiantly one of my favourite places by far!
Foodie
Secured a table outside. The food looked appealing on the menu but overpriced. We waited 40mins for our breakfast (2 dishes). Coffee was bitter.
The Tastebud
We dined here on a Sunday morning at 9am. I thought that we would have had a hard time securing a table at this time on the weekend but it was a piece of cake. The cafe was half full- not what I had expected for a Sunday morning.

I ordered the chilli scrambled eggs with a side of mushrooms (3 small mushrooms). It was ok. It was a large serve of egg, which I didn't finish.I tried a smoothie which was delicious. My other half had the breakfast special - muffins with pulled pork and hollandaise poached eggs. The meat was to die for. Maybe I ordered too safe, and this is why I am a tad disappointed.

Coffee was fine.

I had super high expectations for this cafe...maybe I feel a tad let down- however, in hindsight maybe this was my fault and I ordered wrong. It was ok.

In conclusion, if you want an extensive brunch menu with decent food- this is the cafe for you.

$72 for 2 adults and 2 kids.
Cristy Phelan
Tasty brunch food and nice coffee. Big, filling servings. Cafe is light and airy, with the back court yard that's perfect for sunny mornings. Can be quite noisy inside when busy
Sarah McKenzie
Food is mediocre, nothing too special really. Don't see what the buzz is about.
Avo on toast #2 is exactly what it is.
Husband had chilli scrambled egg which was simple but tasty. Dining area is large and they have highchairs.
Heidi
I recently went to touchwood on a Saturday morning with a big group of friends. I ordered the sticky coconut quinoa porridge with seasonal fruit and pistachios. It was quite nice, not spectacular but still good. The service was quite slow and it took quite a while for our drinks and food to come out. Both my friend and I were both quite sick shortly after we left, considering we ordered the same thing we thought we better call them to give them the heads up, the person we spoke with didn't really say too much, she didn't seem that interested. We only called to give them a heads up just in case so it would have been nice for them to at least say they'll talk to the kitchen etc. Probably still worth a visit if you're really keen, but given there's so many places in Richmond to try its unlikely I'll be back.
Kate Dougherty
I've been to Touchwood a number of times now and to be honest i've never really been blown away. The service is generally a little slow and whilst the food is pleasant enough I feel that there are many other better brunch options around. Anyway, this past weekend I visited for brunch with a group of friends and ordered the beetroot latte and the dr marty's crumpets with smashed banana, honeycomb and hazelnuts. Despite being distinctly earthy in flavour the beetroot latte was actually very tasty. The crumpets were also quite nice but probably a little on the bland side. Personally I think they would have benefited from a bit more honeycomb. Overall, Touchwood isnt bad- its just nothing spectacular.

Have been wanting to go to touchwood for some time! Finally got to go, interior is nice and cosy, but sat outside the back, was lovely as well!
I got the Mexican chicken salad after debating for a good 15 minutes what I wanted! And it was delicious. Also got a smoothie which was great too.
Will deff come back to try some more of the menu!

No luck needed at this place as the meals are solid. On the selection platter this time was chilli scrambled eggs and chocolate waffles (shared between 2 before you judge my appetite). Needing an egg based hit after a night out, the chilli scrambled eggs hit exactly the right spot. The eggs were fluffy and tasteful, though I suppose could've had a slightly more of a chilli hit (personal preference though). But it was the waffles that were the surprise. There was a good balance in the flavours that made me wish my sample taste was a full plate instead. Anyways, that's just my view, not necessarily the baseline!

One of Richmond's little wonders!
Incredibly friendly service by knowledgable and caring staff.
Highly recommend the wagyu burger and fries, and the open prawn tacos.
The Mork hot chocolate with toasted marshmallow was the perfect rounder to the whole meal!
Ally
This cafe was nice and spacious. I ordered the Wagyu burger. It was nice but it wasn't the best I'd ever had. I also tried a bit of the superfood bowl and that tasted really really nice. I didn't get any dessert but it looked incredible so maybe I'll come back for that some day
Hello. Imnikki
The first word that comes to mind when describing Touchwood is massive. The dining hall is massive and so are the portion sizes of the food. Due to the ample seating inside and outside, you are very likely to be able to snag a table, in particularly a table for 2, without too much of a wait. Which is good because there is always a crowd snacking out the door on weekends. The outdoor seating at the back is great if you want to escape from the crowd in the main dining room. We have been here a number of times and service has always been sensational. On our latest visit, due to it being a public holiday, there was a substantial wait for our food to arrive but our frustration was all but gone when we were presented with top quality and scrumptious food. Each bite showcases the inventive flavours and ingredients used in each dish. Can't go wrong with Avo Toast #1. You know their smashed avo is going to be great when there are two smashed avo dishes on the menu. This time around I decided to try the Roasted Curried Pumpkin and I must say I have found a new favourite. The wait for the food was well worth it. But I would have however appreciate a prior warning about the long wait times before I place my order. Then again, the staff members were very apologetic about the wait when the food came out and also apologised once more when we were paying the bill. It's little things like this that can help pacify even the most impatient customers. The awesome food and coffee helped too!

This cafe has got to be one of my favourites that has been discovered in Melbourne. I expected a small, cozy cafe which is what a lot of cafes are nowadays but wow, this place is far from little. The overall vibe of this place is extremely satisfying, it's not too loud but not too quiet, the staff are considerate and always smiling and given how busy this place is, the service was very efficient. After analysing the menu for about 10 minutes, I decided to get the Avocado toast #2 and wow. It was so far from the smashed avocado dishes done by most (if not every cafe) and that is what made it so great. It was full of flavour, every item was cooked to perfection, the presentation was so enticing and really, there was no flaw.
Kiffdcosta
Decor was awesome & customer service was great, we spoke to the lovely waiter for ages. Food wasn't amazing. I got one of the avocado toasts & the toast was really really hard to cut, not sure if the knife wasn't sharp enough or if the bread was just not very fresh lol. There was a lot of good flavors in the avo though so I would like to come back and try another meal. Also chai latte was great 👌🏻

Great fusion food! They've got a creative menu. I was here with a crowd and everyone enjoyed their dishes. Had a yummy brown rice nasi goreng full of flavour!

Me and my partner walked by the cafe but we're happy that we went back and we were not disappointed.

I ordered the Avocado Toast #1 - Beetroot relish, burnt lime, pickled red onion, coriander, mixed seeds, sumac salt and a poached egg on the side....Very healthy and delicious breakfast. Servings were generous.

George had the Nasi Goreng which he commended was very spicy which he loves..

The Cafe is clean, open, spacious and airy and plenty of staff to look after you.

Would l come back? YES and I will recommend my friends to try this place out..
Sophie
This place is always busy, however I've come to notice that it's not consistent with coffee anymore. I used to go there pretty much everyday on my way to work and grab a coffee which I loved but over the past few months there's so many inconsistencies with the coffee that I haven't been back. The staff are always friendly here which is great.
Amy Foo
Nice place for breakfast. Staff were friendly. Food was great and the coffee was amazing. Hard to find a place to park our car but was all worth it. I love this place.
Jess Jensen
Love this cafe! Beautiful food and a great large venue on bridge road. The only downside is it can be a little bit costly, but I think it's worth it for the quality. The staff are all friendly and helpful and contribute to the really laid back vibe. Would definitely recommend
Bread Punta
Pretty good! Though not the best. Orange juice was average, porridge needed a tad more sweetness. Meals were very good size and a reasonable price. Potato was a little bit shit, but the eggs were bloody delicious! I would go back here, even though it wasn't the most spectacular, with slight refinements required. Definitely get your money's worth.
FoodieAboutTown
Touchwood on Bridge Road has been a hot spot for breakie, coffee and lunch for a while now and it’s taken way too long for us to get over and try it out. The menu is a great mix of the usual suspects and some new and exotic options to spice up your day. Breakfast can be ‘Flip Shelton’s 5 grain porridge’ with vanilla almond milk, rhubarb compote, blue berries and toasted coconut or Poached pear and salted caramel wholemeal waffles with whipped mascarpone, strawberry dust and toasted almonds or Sticky coconut quinoa pudding, seasonal fruit, pistachios. But then spicing it up with Nasi Goreng Classic style with low GI brown rice and topped with a fried egg or Chilli Scrambled Eggs with Bacon, spring onions and manchego cheese WOWSERS!!!
Qwerty
Quick service. The inside however was extremely noisy making it hard to hear across the table. The burger was nice but it needed more ingredients so add flavour besides the sauce. The chicken salad was nice but has definitely gone down in quantity, quality and flavour since having it a few times last year
Darren Borg
Not to shabby here at Touchwood. Came here for brunch a couple of times and was always pretty decent. Does get busy in the morning though so may have to wait. This place is very hip and trendy and attracts the same type of patrons. The coffee is pretty good and so are their juices. Food packs some nice flavour and has that trendy finesse in the way it's plated. Reasonably priced in the way of a good breakfast.
Ally Sinclair
This is my crib! It's so simple and elegant. The food is homely with that hipster twist. The price isn't ridiculous. And on a rainy day in Melbourne there's nothing better then their porridge to warm you up. It's definitely popular for people to come on their own and just relax. The only down side is the staff seem a little forgetful. Just be aware you may either have to wait awhile or remind them you that you're ready to order. Otherwise grab that book you wanted to read and head on over. It is a truly beautiful place.
IsFoodIsGood
This place is ALWAYS so busy on the weekends so being a weekday, I thought I'd get in there and finally try and find out what all the rage was about.
Great decor and incredibly fast service. They are obviously a well-oiled machine ready to take on a lot of patrons any time of the day which is great.
I got the Avocado toast #1 with a poached egg - by the way, how smart of them to have two avocado dishes given avocado on toast is all the rave at the moment? Good move Touchwood - very smart.
I'll definitely be back for the mixed grain salad which also looked incredibly appetising.
Well done on a well formulated menu - dishes which are well thought out to cater for all cravings and breakfast options.
Quick service for a place so busy and great friendly staff.
They lived up to the expectations which is hard to do because the bar is already set so high so well done Touchwood.

Touchwood sounds like an ingredient in a Polyjuice potion (sorry Potter nerd); in fact, it’s one of Melbourne’s staple cafes. Brought to to you by the brains behind Pillar of Salt, Tall Timber and Coin Laundry. With names like that, you can expect the food to be as good as their sisters. The space, is packed to the brim with caffeinated locals. Weekends might involve a short tummy rumbling wait. Cast your eyes across the wooden communal table, and a smashed-out brick wall is revealed. The simple hole-in the wall, adding sheer size to the buzzing cafe in a mirrored illusion. The sweet options are magical enough to inspire intense salivation. Have you seen those waffles and crumpets? They’ve become

Having changed owners, decided to go back to Touch Wood for lunch yesterday. Food is still good but our lunch took 40 minutes to arrive. I had to ask twice, and when it did arrive, the avocado side was missing, this then took another 5 minutes and arrived as I was half way through my lunch. Our initial waitress saw we had been waiting and did not come past to offer any explanation, as I tried to catch her eye she either avoided my gaze or was not concentrating. I feel on a work day this is just too long to sit waiting, we ate quickly as our meter had run out. Our initial waitress was at cashier desk and asked how was it, I said it all took too long which she just ignored (or wasn't listening) and off we went. Won't be going back.

Went in on a Monday morning and was still busy, served quickly despite the amount of people in the cafe. Had the avocado smash 1 with a poached egg which I recommend for any avocado lover. A must try here is the caramello smothie dairy free and very delicious
Food Comatose
Fantastic service - check
Airy, open space and atmosphere - check
Quality food and menu variety - check

My only criticism - bring back the peanut butter waffles!!
Catherine MacLean
Delicious food with fresh atmosphere. Went for lunch and had delicious Mexican chicken salad which was tasty with a good spicy kick. That was washed down with a rich and creamy Caramello smoothie! My friend had the prawn tacos which she said were delicious. I was particularly impressed by the generous serving sizes (especially the protein components of each dish) as these days you can feel like you are paying for presentation rather than substance! Highly recommend this place.
Kein
Excellent service, had multiple staff checking in to make sure we were taken care of. Food delivered without too min wait time. I had the wagyu burger with chilli dusted fries. Shoestring fries were surprising not spicy in the least, fell a little flat. Expected fruit juice to be freshly made but it came bottled (Ayomo product). A bit pricey for the everyday lunch, but will return.

Yum yum yum yum! Really pretty and tasty brunch spot! Coffee was a hit also! Good setup with an nice outside bit at the back. Sun was shining it was perfect
Anni
Came here with a large group (about 20 girls). Food was quick to come out, staff were lovely and the food generally looked incredible. Very reasonable prices also. I had the poached pair and salted caramel waffles with whipped mascarpone, strawberry dust and toasted almonds. And yes, it tasted as amazing, if not better, than it sounds. Would definitely come back here!! (Only downside was that the coffee wasn't anything amazing... but other than that it'd be a 5/5 from me)
Codaholic
Have been twice now. Breakfast is nigh better than lunch.

Lunch- Had the prawn tacos. They were OK, but not outstanding. The range on the menu was limited.

Breakfast - had the special, which was eggs Benedict on crumpets with pulled beef. Interesting take on the traditional dish. The pulled beef was awesome. Then crumpets were an interesting idea, but weren't buttery enough. Could've been some more hollandaise as well. The rocket and apple salad (which I obviously opted not to have as all rocket is unnecessary and disgusting) looked pretty ordinary on Codalicious's plate
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
S enjoyed her poached pear and salted caramel wholemeal waffles with whipped mascarpone, strawberry dust and toasted almonds. The waffles had a satifying crunch and had a dense chew from the wholemeal. It was unsurprisingly sweet with all the salted caramel syrup, but thankfully it was drizzled more off to the side of the waffles, enabling us to add in as much of it as we wanted.
Stephanie
The avocado toast #2 with bacon is honestly my favourite breakfast meal in Melbourne. Coffee is also good. The only problem is that it's always busy here so come at quieter times!!
Ashley S.
Love the smashed avocado #1 here- it has burnt lime, pickled onions and beetroot relish. A great spot with a fabulous covered back patio area for summer! Definitely must try
Emily
Tasty food and delicious chai latte. Indoors has a lovely vibe and kitchen is visible which is nice to see the food being created. Could be a little more on the plate though. Doughboy donuts a bonus!!
Lauren
The food was lovely despite some downsides like waiting 30 minutes for the food to come out, not bringing me a weak coffee and the unenthusiastic waiter that seemed like she didn't want to be there.
Lucky the food was good otherwise the score would have been lower
Bonnie Sullivan
Decent coffee but brunch was pricey for the serves. Found the service patchy as well. Porridge was reasonable but found the experience underwhelming.
Pooch
One of the better brunch spots in Richmond. Fantastic atmosphere and they have an incredible menu. Lovely staff as well, will definitely return
This Diner Is Anonymous
Came here with a group of friends, and the experience can't be faulted. There's a lovely area out the back for canine friends, and the menu is great. I had the scrambled eggs with a side of bacon, and it was fantastic. Everyone really enjoyed the food here. Bridge Road is a strange beast, but this place is definitely giving the area credibility. Definitely the best in the area.
Kylie
Staff and poorly trained and rude. Told them I was vegetarian and my dish still came out to me with meat on it. Once I reminded the waitress she scoffed, took my plate away and brought it back to me a couple of minutes later saying "we tried to pick most of it out".
Definitely won't be back.
TheFitFoodie
My friends and I came to Touchwood on a busy Sunday morning for brunch and got a table straight away in the lovely outdoor area. The service was great, all of the staff attentive and friendly. The menu was extensive including an all day breakfast menu with loads to chose from, a few vegan and vegetarian options available also. I had the avocado dish which included the best beetroot and pickled onion I have ever had. My friends had the salad, chilli eggs and coconut porridge - all very tasty. For all 4 us including coffees was $95.00. Great location with street parking available. Would recommend and return.
Cruffin Lover
Delicious chilli scramble and very generous serving. However I was disappointed with the efficiency of the coffee as the staff seemed to just be standing around chatting to each other and with friends. When I received the coffee it was on the weaker side and lukewarm.
Belinda Keeffe
Great menu with something for everyone plus a wide selection of cakes and pastries. Excellent outdoor area, you can bring your dogs through the back gate. Can be packed on a weekend so expect to wait 15 mins or so for a table.
Live2eat
Really nice set up on bridge rd. Courtyard out the back is terrific, and covered which is handy is the case of adverse weather. Had a couple of coffees on a weekday morning, wasn't overly busy, and the staff were good. Coffee was great, a nice option on bridge rd.
TINA JOHNSON
perhaps one of the best cafes in Melbourne. Extremely good atmosphere and the food quality is superb. Good value for money and great location. Even though its always busy, the waiters are really efficient. I also like the fact that they offer different specials every now and then. 5/5 from me
Protocol85
No superstition here. I'll touch my heart instead of "touchingwood" and say that the stale face from a waitress is black as hell. Coffee was honestly good but how good (props to the barista) can it feel when the service is inconsistent through the board. People honestly have problems and have to run. I would love to return for food, but I ain't gonna cause of the black cloud hovering in the area. I heard your muffles with one another upon my leaving. You should be ashamed.
David Liao
Popular Richmond coffee joint. Very good coffee with the right vibe. Really enjoy the big breakfast.
HungryCBDstudent
I came here for lunch with a couple of friends as Touchwood was open on the grand final eve public holiday. The service was really great as the staff were very helpful, attendant and friendly. I had the morning grain salad and I loved it as it was delicious and fresh and the flavours and textures combined together so well in every mouthful. Also the coffee here is really good. My friends enjoyed their dishes too and we left happy and satisfied.
Georgie
Love touchwood, great private seating areas and nice for a drive by morning coffee. Busy on the weekends so get in when they open to score a seat
Danielle Mavrodis
I enjoyed my lunch here. I had the superfood salad. Sat outside which was really nice. Will definitley be back to try more interesting dishes off their menu!
Richmond Foodie
From the time of seating it took approximately 10 minutes for a staff member to bring us a menu and take our coffee orders. It then took another 15 minutes to have our food orders taken. After waiting at least 30 minutes for our coffees, we queried where they were and were told they were next to be made. Another 15 minutes later our food came out: burnt waffles. We again asked where our coffees were and finally after at least an hour wait, the coffees arrived. They were burnt and undrinkable. We told a staff member that we were not willing to pay for the coffees which they agreed to however overall, the service was completely unsatisfactory: staff do not go out of their way to assist you and service is incredibly slow even on quiet days. I have visited Touchwood multiple times and I would advise not to go during peak hour times such as weekends but to go on a weekday as the service is slightly better and the wait for your order will not be over an hour. Whilst the ambience is lovely, after this experience I will not be returning.
Dennis Vegan
This is a really large cafe, but it's also very popular and fills quickly! Nab a table where you can (maybe in the delightful covered courtyard out the back) and prepare to dedicate a bit of time to the extensive menu. There's a lot of choice for both breakfast and lunch here and I wanted to eat almost all of it.
FullCreamAhead
Yesss it's yet another good venue that's worth a visit. Most impressive part is the beautiful and deceivingly big interior. Food was delicious, I'll definitely be back to try something else from plentiful menu. I ordered the CARAMELLO smoothie>> peanut butter, banana, ect...need I say more...there's no denying it was YUM but I though 10 bucks was a little steep. Service was excellent, waited less than 5 minutes for a table on a saturday. PRETTY HAPPY CUSTOMER.
Rob Y
With Richmond continuing to see a mini revival of sorts, Touchwood shines on as a must-visit brunch spot. There’s honestly not much more to say, a varied menu, tasty dishes, and a nice little courtyard out back. You should touch down at Touchwood when you get the opportunity. In a Sentence: Memorable, and a perfect ‘local’.
Yasmin Forster
Lovely cafe on Bridge Road and deceivingly big! Menu is quite small but makes up for it in flavour. The sticky coconut quinoa was beautiful however came as a little shock when it was served cold as I thought it would be hot (porridge-esq); so maybe it should be noted that some dishes are served cold especially for the wintery mornings :)
Ai Thuy Tran
I had a pleasant experience at touchwood with two friends a while ago. I really enjoyed the Mexican chicken salad and the coconut cold drip. I don't know other places that do coconut cold drip except for Bowery to Williamsburg. I admittedly was very keen to try the tequila and citrus cured salmon I had seen on their menu the day before... but unfortunately that was an old menu that had not been updated.
Edible Melbourne
I decided to come to this venue a sudden morning off that I had. I was really excited to try it considering the great instagram account these guys have. Expectations were high because the pictures looked great,

I walked in and I was not greeted or seated by anyone. The place had a table of 8 in there and a couple of tables of 2. Not really busy for the 4 wait staff working plus he barista. I approached a waitress who looked greatly disinterested who urged to grab a seat wherever I wanted. I sat down at the bar by the window and patiently waited for my menu which took approximately 5-10 mins to arrive. Ordered coffee straight away and it arrived very quickly. Nice, well-bodied taste, clean with a nice aroma.

The venue is really plain inside but quite spacious. It's a little quirky but a little neutral and "cold".

I asked for the most popular meal of the menu and the smashed avocado was pointed out. I ordered it with some hesitance because I don't normally have a great feeling about such an average option which is available in every second cafe. Served with salmon and pickled onion, I had to add an extra poached egg just to be sure it was enough. The bread was beautiful and the salmon good. The avocado was fresh but the pickled onion I thought was unnecessary to the dish. It added nothing in terms of flavour overall but the colour was a pleasant visual effect.

This place made me realise that I instagram is a great marketing tool but it needs to be advised with caution. I visited this place with high expectations and I was personally let down. I don't believe I would return unless someone advised of a menu change because the current version does not cater many variations.
Maddie McNab
Touchwood is excellent - definitely one of my fave restaurants/cafes in Melbourne. I love coming here! Every time I've been the service has been great, the food is delicious - especially the burgers they are to die for, and the whole place has a great energy and vibe going. LOVE it!
Fainzee
Nice environment, had a great coffee here. Meal was okay... I would go back but it takes a while to get there from where I live. The avocado toast with lemon and onions was alright. I personally expected a better result.
Vicki
Waited a while to be seated which I don't mind if the experience can outweigh the buildup. Once we sat down it was like the staff were avoiding taking our orders, avoiding eye contact and trying to loo busy. I found the coffee burnt and way to hot. Food was ok but nothing special.
Anna Rusk
Vanya Milinović and I had a fab Sunday brunch. Avo on toast #2 was exceptional! The service was great and very prompt but not over bearing.
Coffee Maverick
How do you spell average? Touchwood, that is how my morning started on a glorious winters day. After a 20 minute wait we were seated, only to not be served asking for assistance two times. I had to steal a menu from the table next to me. I would give their service a 1/80. The food on the other hand was 15% better than average but I wouldn't be rushing back considering it took me 4 days to find somewhere to park. Overall I think the owners will be touching wood to stay open
Hee Young Shin
I loved their atmosphere with beautiful wooden tables and chairs
However food did not deliver
Had their famous waffles and found little dense and soggy due to excess syrup/caramel
Might give a second go on savoury dishes
Isaiah Marquez
Loved the food (Visually stunning and Pretty delicious) and excellent service.

The only thing missing was a few downlights. The weather when I went was a bit gloomy and the it kinda reflected the atmosphere inside (The staff were enthusiastic though which is a plus).
Always Choose Pizza
After braving the general cavity fisting that is IKEA on a Saturday I didn't need smashed avo or quinoa, I needed a big 'effen breakfast. Touchwood granted me this and they crushed it, special mention goes to the lamb chop with basil and potato rosti.
Ashmath Azoor
Love all the sweet dishes at this place, the pancakes and waffles are awesome. I have had better coffee though. Sunday brunch is a good time to visit
Nyssi
A quick Google for a brunch spot in Richmond sent us to this little beauty. Much larger in space than it first appears we were seated immediately. Great open and inviting space, efficient, friendly service and most importantly excellent food options! I opted for the morning grain salad with bacon and did not regret it. The chai soaked raisins and almonds and the cumin yoghurt finished it perfectly. Hubby's avo on toast was also a great twist on an old fav with grilled lime, beetroot relish and pickled onion. And of course, great coffee...we'll be back!
Iain
This place rocks. When available, the coconut cold drip coffee is hectically awesome. Ruin summer this is the boss way to drink coffee.

My girlfriend really loves the grain salad here. I just love their coffee.
Putfoodinme_
Was able to nab a table on a busy Saturday morning after waiting around unattended at the entrance of the cafe for about 10 minutes. The service was a little off - with cold tea arriving and being told 'menu items couldn't be amended on the weekend' (it was an allergy thing, not a taste issue). In the end they were able to omit the particular ingredient, but it seemed like a struggle. The food however, couldn't be faulted. It was visually stunning and super delicious.
Paul Valenti
Breaky here was delicious! It all sounded great but we chose the avo #1 and the morning grain salad! Both were great, all the flavours blended great together! Coffee was good as well!

The first time I went there, I got the fig fruit bread. Three slices of magic but now they only serve two.
Food is a little slow to come out and coffee is never hot.

I've been here three times in total and the time between visits are slowly becoming longer.

The hulk smoothie is fun and refreshing, a must have if you ever drop by.

This is a place that doesn't push the boundaries and if you just want straight forward breakfast.
Nothing lost... Nothing gained.

I often mark a place based on my answer to these questions.
1. Would I have any of their dishes in my dream restaurant. - yes fruit bread.
2. Would I miss them if they closed down. - No. Standard place.
3. What would I do differently - warm up the place and get some more furniture to fill it up.
Jessica
I have been here three times now and every time my order has been wrong. The food has never come out at the same time and the coffee has always been cold. Luckily, they food has always been lovely.
Ezio Hungary
Went here to get some coffee and I have to say, this is one of the best coffee shop i had been to. I like the after taste of the coffee here. I will be back again :D
Hungryinhawthorn
Food here is always great. Had the porridge (special) and the prawn tacos. Portions appropriate for the prices. Service was a bit impersonal and hard to find people sometimes. Coffee wasn't great, nicer coffee within walking distance. Great gluten free bread for those who are intolerant. Actually good range of options for anyone who is intolerant to things like gluten, fructose and lactose.
TOT: HOT OR NOT
From the people behind successful inner city cafes Coin Laundry, Station Street Trading Co., Tall Timber, Pillar of Salt and Barry comes Touchwood in Richmond, a spacious and breezy family-friendly cafe at the quiet end of Bridge Road near Burnley Road. While Touchwood is no clone the owners have obviously replicated some aspects of their successful formula. The whitewashed decor, polished concrete, timber touches and greenery from Pop Plant are de rigeur.
Farzana
Lovely place for brunch or breakfast or lunch, or just coffee. Food is consistently great. The space is definitely bigger than it looks from the outside, and has a wonderful atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and accommodating, even during busy periods. Coffee is top-notch, and a great range of teas and juices too.
Rebecca Borg
Great brunch spot. Looks small from outside though its quite big and has an outdoor area which is great in the warmer weather. Service was prompt and food was lovely. Shall return =)
ItsTrueFatKidsLoveFood
This is a friends fave brekky spot and he took us here to show why. Didn't see his reasoning to be honest, tried a range of stuff that we ordered, much better available in the area.

With so many wonderful cafes and brunch spots in the Richmond area, how do you stand out and keep customers coming back? While there is no one answer, Bridge Road café, Touchwood, sure are doing something right, because their indoor and outdoor areas are always brimming with hungry clientele.
Minyip
Great to have a seat out the back (outside) on a sunny day! Food was delicious, as was the coffee. Great tasting juices too, perfect for a bday breakfast date.

Holidays when all your other friends don’t have holidays is exactly as fun as it sounds. But luckily I got ma gurlzz to keep me occupied (well at least until they all jet off to amazing holiday destinations, whut is life). Anyhow, today was pretty swell, spent it with one of my nutrition girls having brunch, before going to watch Pitch Perfect 2 and then going to ganache for a bit of cheeky dessert. What a lovely day :).
Jennifer King
So amazing. I had the poached pear dish, service is busy but not bad, amazing vibes and great outdoor seating!! I definitely want to go again!

Some service? Please?. I hobbled down Bridge Rd from the Epworth Hospital because I have been thinking it would be nice to try Touchwood after a hospital appointment. It was lunch time, and certainly not busy. I entered, told the waitress that I would like some lunch. The waitress kindly told me to sit anywhere, and asked me if I wanted a coffee to start. 'Yes Please', I answered and told her the type of coffee I was craving...

... and that was the end of the good service. My coffee was delivered - tasted fine, and I proceeded to look at the menu to decide what I wanted for lunch!
I sipped my coffee slowly not wanting to finish before I ordered my meal...
observed initial waitress in non-busy cafe chat with two guys in front of me...
sipped some more coffee...
checked my emails on my phone...
read a bit of news.com.au...
observed initial waitress in non-busy cafe continue to chat with two guys in front of me...
finish my coffee...
wait for someone to take my order...
observed initial waitress in non-busy cafe continue to chat with two guys in front of me...
...
...
Decided that since no one wanted to take my order I'll find somewhere else to buy my lunch!
Got up, paid for the coffee, was tempted to comment on the poor service and decided to go next door, buy a delicious meat pie and enjoyed it immensely.

Should I have called out for some service? On a dull Monday morning..... This light spacious cafe was a bit cool .. in both senses..
The coffee nice, I may try a double shot next time, I have been spoilt by good strength coffee in a select other few places.
My dining partner and I both opted for Avocado on toast #2, replacing the salmon with bacon.
Excellent choice! Delicious!
The waffles tempted me, but then I saw there was not waffles on the plate of a neighbouring diner, but one waffle.. ... I was hungry! So Avo on toast it is!
Over all.. a good spot, nice and relaxed, not crazy busy = didn't feel rushed to vacate the table. Win!

Touchwood is one of those nice brunch places, just like every other nice brunch place in this city. Coffee is good consistently, prices are good, however, food can be pretty hit and miss. Staff are always nice and it's a great meeting place. I do like it (i like brunch associated things in general though).

Very Grumpy. Went to touchwood for brunch today. None of the staff brought us menus for 15 minutes so I went to the front and collected it myself. Then sat for another 10 minutes still waiting for service... did not receive any! Made an escape through the back door (unnoticed). Found an alternative a couple doors down and had a lovely breakfast there instead!

Dined here last Saturday for breakky. All very lovely until a tribe of 9yo's stormed into the back courtyard and were seated at the big table for a kids birthday party breakfast. Shouting, squealing and general ducking around ensued. With duck-knuckle parents making no attempt to control their sugared up monsters.

WTF, if I wanted this experience I would do breakky at Macca's.

You've lost me TW. Such disrespect for your regulars. There's plenty of othe cafes down Bridge road.

Amazing Nasi georing and prawn tacos!!!

SO GOOD ! their banana and blueberry waffles are the stuff of dreams, really nice set up too. the only thing that sucked was the amount of wasps in the outdoor area, as wasps are terrifying, but that's not their fault. stay inside and have a good time

Delivered on expectations. I am pleased to add Touchwood to my prestigious top 10 brunch venues in Melbourne list. The chilli scrambled eggs were a class above and enjoyed in a family friendly non pretentious atmosphere. Let me manage your expectations, Touchwood will deliver a solid brunch experience but won't blow you away. Much like watching The Godfather, you won't regret your decision but will question if there were better alternatives afterwards. I give Touchwood 3.5 out of 5 stars and look forward to visiting again soon #seeyoulatte

Had the bean breakfast dish that tasted like a refrigerator. Salsa verde on the big breakfast was just oil and a few bitter green herbs. The lamb was old. Must have been apprentice training day in the kitchen

Food was nice but not incredible. Coffee was ok. My partner ordered a juice - it came in a small glass old fashioned milk sizes bottle $7. Heard others commenting on that too. If it had been awesome juice $7 might have been ok but it wasn't awesome. So many other places in Richmond we probably won't go back.

Morning Grain Salad...I love you.. Best breakfast going around. Full stop. Add the extra bacon.

Yummy food but DO NOT sit outside... The bin is behind the fence and stinks. Our breakfast was ruin and when this was mentioned to the waitress she said nothing and walked off.

It is often in Melbourne that a new brunch spot will emerge, hype will spread and suddenly you’ll find yourself perched like a massive hipster on a milk crate, waiting half an hour to be seated because you couldn’t possibly go anywhere else, and neither could the rest of your suburb. Touchwood in Richmond is one of those places – it also has the advantage of being in an area that is in dire need of a food culture makeover. As such, Touchwood is currently enjoying a popularity on Bridge Rd that is bordering on the hysterical.

i popped into this newbie on bridge road this morning – another exciting recommendation found in the good cafe guide and a great excuse to escape the freezing arctic winds that were ripping through melbournes’ streets this morning. related to the same consortium behind tall timber (have tried) and station street trading company (haven’t yet tried), the cafe has a fantastic spacious and open feel. with ample table space, it was easy to spread out my laptop and do some work while eating. the coffee is five senses which has an excellent smooth flavour. i recently cut milk out of my diet and am having a good/interesting time working out whether i can actually learn to like soy or almond milk. so far, i’m favouring boysoy (don’t worry, all read up on articles, ingredients etc.) which thankfully touchwood serve – so i was loving my latte this morning.

Touchwood café is one of my favourites. Partner to some of Melbourne’s finest and most admired cafes; Station Street Trading Co, Pillar of Salt, Tall Timber and the recently opened Barry, it has already developed a respectable image. Upon entry into the café, you will always be welcomed and greeted immediately by the warm staff members. There is usually a spot available, or the wait time on weekends isn’t long as the place is huge, very spacious and can seat 120 people comfortably. The outside courtyard is also large and can fit around 40 people. There is one big table in the middle of the courtyard, which is perfect for a large group of people and birthday celebrations. Source: Kristoffer Paulsen -www.broadsheet.com.au My friend couldn’t decide which juice to order, the staff were so kind that we were given a taste tester of the fresh juices they had to offer, something I have never seen before in a cafe. I had the juices on my

My skinny latte when it arrived was probably one of the best coffees I've had for a long while. Made from a special blend of beans roasted by Five Senses, it was deliciously hot, sweet and creamy to taste. From the first sip, I mentally made plans to order my next cup as soon as I could and then my breakfast appeared before me.

It's just fortunate that Touchwood is open during the Easter holidays. Today, Sis and I had a really nice brunch here. The staff was nice and friendly. The only problem is - it seems like there's a time limit and they were sort of rushing us out through clearing our plates and asking if we're still going with a few morsels of food on our plates. But food-wise, I thought it was quite inventive and a step above the usual brunch menu. Sis had the Blueberry and Banana Wholemeal Waffles with vanilla marscapone and maple syrup ($16). It was quite sweet and tart. I liked the marscaponie cream on this and the waff

“Imagine if Melbourne’s café scene slowly began to decline” / “Touch wood” – We’re an odd and supernatural breed of animal, aren’t we? I can’t imagine that many other animals walk around rapping their knuckles on trees to avoid tempting fate after making a favourable observation, boast, or declaration concerning one’s own death. Yet I do it all the time. It’s a kind of cultural comfort, much like a nice coffee to start the day. I already had my coffee this morning – with a good friend at a crappy (but consistently crappy, so at least it’s safe) coffee hut in between our houses, which we’ve been going to for the past four years. How’s that for superstitions / routine. Continue going to the same place, even if it’s not your favourite, because it’s good enough (good enough is somewhat blasphemous when considering all that Melbourne has to offer though).

You are never sure how staff and diners alike are going to be the morning after the AFL Grand Final. Bright, sunny and windy outside, inside very pleasant with no signs of the celebrations from yesterday (for Hawks supporters at least). No wait was a nice surprise, and although it took quite a while for someone to come and take our order, it didn't take too long to then bring out the coffee, and food thereafter. Catherine chose the second of two avocado selections featuring feta, mint, house smoked salmon, and pickled onion. The house smoke is strong, giving good depth of flavour to the salmon.
I Spy Plum Pie
The fit-out is sparse and clean, with white brick and light coloured wood featuring heavily alongside lots of greenery and plenty of natural light. The menu features coffee from 5 Senses and tea from Storm in a Teacup, with a good spread of breakfast and lunch choices for both vegetarians and carnivores alike.

...we headed to Touchwood – which is quickly moving upwards on my favourite brunch list. This bright, airy cafe is on trend with its healthy menu, including morning grain and ‘superfood’ salads Consistent coffee is one of my non-negotiables for a decent cafe and the five senses blend and baristas here certainly deliver. I’ve also tried one of the refreshing green juices – not hipster cold pressed, though the coconut water definitely gives this cafe the hipster factor. Wanting something light, I sampled the sticky coconut quinoa pudding with stone fruits and pistachio. A healthy version of the thai sticky rice dessert, it was surprising to try quinoa this way. Although a bit too sweet for my liking, the tartness of the nectarines offset the coconut milk and the pistachios gave some texture. Brother ordered the wholemeal waffles with banana

Loved it...worth the wait. We rocked up and there was a line up, but by the time we ordered a takeaway coffee while we waited we then got a seat. Loved the Prawn tacos and mexican salad. Yummo

One of the most overrated cafes I have ever been to. Looooong wait for average food, poor coffee, indifferent service. Just another one of the " cool " cafes that are in truth more suited to Sydney than Melbourne.
Grace.perry
Man!! This place is literally on fire.
I got the smashed avo #1 with pickled red onion, beetroot relish and burnt like (from memory) and it was absolutely delicious!! The portions weren't too big but big enough to keep me satisfied for a long time. The prices were very good also, coming to around 35 for two. I had a soy cappuccino and it was almost perfect strength. Staff are very friendly and the atmosphere there is sensational. Highly recommend this place, as it deserves way more than 79%!

Nice food and coffee but too noisy and staff not very friendly. No hurry to go back.

Nice place but food is bland. B+ atmosphere/ B for Coffee /C- for food. Dissapointing.

One of the best breakfasts ever. Had the ago toast #1 with a poached egg. Good portions, tasty food. Coconut cold drip coffee was brilliant!

Overrated. I went for brunch with some friends and it was seriously overrated. The food actually tasted good, but considering the wait to get a table, the dodgy service, the amount of canned food we were served and the high quality brunch destinations in this area, I was disappointed. Most items come with only one egg which I think is stingy. I ordered avo toast #1. The "burnt lime" was creative and pretty, yet disgusting, the beetroot relish tasted like canned beetroots shaved into a pile and you get 2 large peices of toast with just one egg. Some of my friends ordered the baked beans dish and said the baked beans were from a can. One girl ordered OJ, but it never came. 2 girls didn't order bacon, but were served bacon with their meals and to top it all off were charged for it even when they got the bacon taken off their plates. Another friend ordered an extra egg with her meal...which came late on a tiny plate. Finally, when we came to pay, the girl serving was incredibly impatient and started bad-mouthing us to the next customers as soon as we turned our heads. Just terrible and not up to scratch. They have nice cold pressed juices and their menu has a good concept, but nothing was executed well.

Excellent breakfast! Went with a group of 10 or so after an active morning at Clip'N'Climb, were hella satisfied all round. Vegans were happy, Gluten free peeps were happy, meat eaters were happy. Coffee was ace. Will return :)

Crumpets are to die for, yummo. I read the reviews so expected epicurean delights or a holiday for my taste buds but awful service, SURPRISE, someone has been reading their reviews and both service and served up food was happily munched upon. Well done Touchwood.

Great food. Not so great service. Touch wood: fantastic coffee and they're food is pretty great. However today the service was pretty impersonal, impolite and ubrubt. This was demonstrated through forgetting our order (this is fine, understand that people make mistakes). However this was for a long time in which no attempt was made to apologise or attend to the matter. When going to pay for the bill we were overcharged and didn't even have time to say as a recipt was printed and change handed back to us. No engagement with us on a personal level was evident. After confronting them about the bill no apology was made for the overcharging although a full refund was given.. I don't think I will go back here again. I understand they are busy, however they should try to make everyone's experience the same. I am not angry about it just very very dossapinted.

We had brunch at Touchwood today, and although the food was good, the service was far from it. Excusing the 40 minute wait for four items on the breakfast menu, and having to ask the waitress several times for water, the bill we received at the end of our meal came with an appalling surprise.

We ordered a Nasi Goreng, which was clearly listed on the menu as costing $6. On the receipt, the price was listed as $16. After politely asking a waiter if this was a typo, we were approached by a young, dark-haired male, who appeared to be some kind of manager.

He told us that the menus had been printed that day and the price of $6 was a mistake - one that we would have to pay for. Instead of recognising that the cafe had made a mistake and trying to ease our frustrating, the young man told us: “You guys shouldn’t assume the meal was so cheap, as the serving suggests otherwise.”

We overlooked this arrogant comment, but the young man still refused to offer us a discount. Working in the hospitality industry myself, I was horrified, and won’t be returning. If this is how they treat customers to their face, I can only imagine the shortcuts they take when we aren’t looking.

The value of the meal wasn’t the issue. It’s the the actions and comments of the staff that make this place one to avoid.

Not again. Been a few times, coffee can be good to great, but food can be average to terrible. Last time I went I got poached eggs that were rock hard on thin cardboard bread. Inexcusable for a cafe like this.

Good coffee. Relaxed atmosphere and decent coffee. Pretty busy with nice staff. Might become a regular.

Not impressive coffee very rude staff. Be prepared check you are cool enough to satisfy their needs for serving the high clientele. As always happen in inner city cafe. Business as usual.

Danish? Yes please!. Had a delicious Danish open sandwich. Service was prompt and meal was clean and excellent quality. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Excellent food. The excellent food and great presentation. However, the service staff was terrible. Don't care how good the food is if I get attitude from a waiter.

Slooooow and rude staff. 11 minutes for a takeaway coffee and then the order is 100% wrong

Have just really enjoyed the breakfast today. Great atmosphere. Delicious food and good service. We never felt rushed or pressured even on Grand Final Day. Impressed and will definitely return.

Cute and Comfy. The first thing I noticed about Touchwood is the open indoor space. It gives the cafe a great atmosphere and the many tables ensure the wait is not too long. I had the grain salad with bacon and the Hulk green smoothie, which were both delicious. The staff members were also really friendly and attentive. I could not fault our experience and can't wait to go back to try a salted caramel hot chocolate!
Nene
Very cute staff. Great service... very photogenic food.

Great Food, Shame About the Coffee. Several breakfasts here and the food is always good and the menu interesting. However, like half of Melbourne these days, I prefer Soy with my coffee.

Guys, you need to do something about your Soy. Seriously. It's either the coffee you use or the type of Soy. Whichever it is, it aint working. I've been several times and it's always the same. Awful.
Jill Black
I have had decent food here (the cured salmon dish with smashed peas, creme fraiche etc) and they do an awesome chai, but the unfriendly and cold service just doesn't make me want to come back regularly. No smiles. No "how are you?". Nothing. It's off-putting. There are much more friendly & warm places nearby that do better coffee and good food too!
Sonia Emilie Heinrich
Mixed Grain Salad (Quinoa, Freekeh, Wild Rice Etc.) - Chai Soaked Raisins - Bacon. Super tasty served with natural yogurt and a poached egg (I added the bacon option and it was a great choice!) - I was VERY impressed, it works really well as a brekky dish and quite filling!

Great coffee...bad attitude. Why can't I get a good coffee without the bad attitude?
Unless you are deemed cool enough there is little care factor from most of the staff here.
Usually met with disdain or "you can wait while I stare into space" urgency.

Blond waitress must own the place because if she is an employee, she should of been sacked ages ago. I have never been served by someone so lethargic and rude in my life.

I suggest go to Lumberjack. Much cooler, just as good without the unjustified superiority
Jules1
Service? Missing in action. C'mon guys. How about a smile? A hospitable welcome, how ya going, good-bye see to next time? Far out, wouldn't employ this dowdy bunch. They don't pay attention to coffee orders, not sure why they're so distracted? Breakfast fare ok, nothing special.

House Made Baked Beans with Mushrooms, Goats Cheese, a Poached Egg + Bacon. Delicious breakfast today at Touchwood

The restaurant was great. Nice atmosphere in Richmond. The service from the staff was great, as was the food. I had the lamb Kofta's and really enjoyed them, perhaps a little too much chili for my liking. Coffee was fantastic, very smooth and very quick, as it should be. Will go back again.

Great place. Food is great.... Great place.
Food is great with a lot of different and interesting items on the menu, new specials on every week and I can really recomend the Danish open sandwich.
Service is excellent and staff is very friendly and quick.
The only 'bad' thing I have to say about this place is that it's hard to get a table lunchtime on Saturdays.
My favourite in Melbourne!
Excitable Tastebuds
Food envy!. Great staff and fantastic atmosphere. Before going I had checked out the menu and was super excited to try the "Tequila and citrus cured salmon, poached eggs, smashed peas, dill, lemon crème fraiche, sautéed endive, sourdough toast" - to my dismay it wasn't on the menu :-( However the Smashed avocado #2 with smoked salmon was a delicious compromise. I couldn't help getting food envy seeing all the other amazing dishes others were eating so will have to return for something different!
J
My friend visiting fr Sydney asked if we could eat lunch at a hipster place so I asked her "well what kind of hipster? And she said "the kind with crates out front and fake grass. And this kind of place is touchwood - complete with crates and grass outside. The place is surprisingly quite big inside so you don't need to squeeze between other diners. The wait staff were all really friendly. The prawn tacos were yumtastic! Spicy and with the right amount of slaw and spice. The super salad was a bit too healthy for me though. Hot chocolate was perfect the right amount of chocolate and not too sweet. I hate hipster joints normally, but will be back.
K.suther
Terrible service. Waited over 45 minutes for a coffee, having asked the waitress numerous times if it was on it's way to be constantly told it was - really bad and lazy service. It wasn't until M=my friend's coffee arrived, which was ordered 20 minutes after mine, that the waitress finally went and brought me a coffee.
The food was good, however overall the staff were unattentive and not in the slightest friendly - a smile goes a long way and isn't that hard!
Much better and friendlier places along Bridge Rd.
Da Viid
Food ok but let down by bad service. Food was ok for the standard big breakky feast and the inclusion of a lamb chop was a nice mix. Watch the upper roof of mouth on the sourdough... Service was unfortunately lacking. Went at Saturday peak time and our waitress seemed that she wasn't in the best mood. no smiles and no greeting - quite transactional. Small things that make a good experience were lacking. No butter on the toast and when we asked for some, rock hard butter came out. coffee order was stuffed up and it was hard to get the attention for the food order. (weren't asked whether we wanted to order our food at the same time) we ended up getting 2-3 attempts at different coffees to the table and each were not correct. Also, asked about whether the toast was gluten free or not (as we requested) and without really even looking just said "yes"... given the amount of great breakky places out there we probably wont be coming back.

Will be back!. Great menu, and very helpful service! One of the best smashed avocado brunches in Melbourne.

It's a bit hit and miss. Living just around the corner from here the significant other and I were pretty thrilled when this opened and have been a few times. Coffee is good and some of the breaky dishes are delish (especially the quinoa breakfast salad). The wait is generally not too exorbitant and mostly worth it.

BUT, the last two times we've been there, or tried to anyway, it's not been great.
The first negative was the nasi goreng. I had had it there before and it was quite nice, but then my partner ordered it and it was crazy spicy. It doesn't mention that on the menu and he really struggled to eat it, not enjoyable at all.

The second time we went in and were seated and were told someone would come back with menus etc but after 10 minutes of just sitting there, nothing! We tried to get someone's attention but being seated in the window meant that no one really came by us. So we just left, we want to relax when we go out for breaky, not hail someone down to get a coffee.

So some mixed experiences all up, but we'll probably go back to our regular place down the road until we give Touchwood a try again.

Very warm and welcoming staff. Coffee was also very nice. Great decor and ambiance. Definitely will go back for a meal.

Love the space and feel at touchwood. We had a basic breakfast of scrambled eggs which was great and had great service to match.

Update Jan 18
Have been here a few times recently for breakfast and it’s been pretty good. Had the Benedict, chili scramble and both were pretty good!

Not a fan of touchwood. Had heard good things but I thought the food was sub par. The meatball sub just didn't taste right, the sauce wasn't great, the lamb chop was pretty fatty and lacked flavour. My watermelon and mint juice was just watermelon juice with a tiny piece of mint on top! Staff really friendly and service good, but also found the tables really jammed in and it was VERY loud so wasn't really enjoyable!!

Went with my sister who has been a few times before. Arrived when it was busy and was greeted by a very unpleasant, hostile waitress who refused to smile as she explained it was bbusy and wrote down my name. After writing it incorrectly, I gently explained to her, to which she promptly replied it didn't matter, she'd 'get it' anyway, and flounced off! Total sourpuss! Served us a drink once we were seated and the smile and thank you were returned with stony faced silence...hopefully she was just having a bad day...totally unacceptable. She looked like she just couldn't cope and couldn't care less. On a pleasant note, the food is fantastic and interesting and fresh.

Big space, above average food. One thing I like about a dining a place is big wide spaces and touchwood hits the spot well with its big open spaces inside as well the court yard dining area out the back.

I've been here a few times because the place is exactly what you want. Above average food, good spaces, decent coffee, attentive service. Of course all this comes with a slightly above average price as well that I am all too happy to pay.
Sally T
Burger was ok... Little greasy but still tasty. Good vibe but service was a bit hit and miss.
Dan
Great coffee...I buy takeaway here from time to time and today I realised I didn't have my purse with me...staff insisted that I still get one and pay them another time. How many cafes would do this??
I visit a cafe right near my house almost every day, and the one time I did this they reluctantly let me come back later with the money.
It's a small gesture, but shows great customer care :)
Jonathan Moss
Great food, poor staff. The food was generous and tasty but the staff were too cool for school. We saw two staff members walking around hand in hand, too male staff carrying each other around like babies in their arms and jumping on each others backs. Also a female staff member took away my meal without asking me if I was finished and didn't say I thing. Sort out the staff and it would be great.

Good typical Melbourne breakfast haunt. Food - the peanut butter and raspberry waffles were lovely - not are sweet as I was afraid of.
Coffee - good espresso.
Wait - ~5min on a warm Sat morning during peak breakfast hour.
Service - the waitstaff were friendly and upbeat, but when we went to pay the guy behind the counter barely looked at us and was plain unpleasant. I went back for a coffee another day and the same guy was behind the counter and still he was unpleasant and acted like he was doing me a favour by letting me pay. The waitstaff were lovely, so this guy really put a dampener on the whole experience.

TW Massive. The flavours were excellent and the serving size just right, not too much. Could've requested the toast to be lightly done. Waited long for my order. Coffee: awesome. 3.5 stars

TO MOLLY GRAY (below). Josh's comments aren't irrelevant. None are. It's all just opinion. As someone who works in the industry you would be familiar with some cafés who's systems allow for a quick takeaway queue whilst managing orders from the restaurant. One does not take priority over the other, they both need to be managed. Josh wasn't suggesting his coffee was more important, just that 10 minutes for a takeaway is too long. He is right. It is too long. Now for my review (opinion) the food here is good. The service, good, albeit a little over the top. The coffee, terrible. Milky, tepid, bitter and (sorry Molly) takeaways take too long. Anyone who catches the tram from that point will generally go 2 doors up because it's consistent and it's fast. Touchwood are new and funding their feet so hopefully will benefit from this feedback. Every new business is entitled to its teething problems. I will give it another go.

Great staff and tasty food, I love the back yard with herb garden, nice place to catchup with an old friend, thank you Touchwood for being so good :)

Quite friendly staff followed by a beautiful burger. Couldn't ask for more.

Our first time at Touchwood (1-2 months ago) was for breakfast and we came away feeling it was massively overrated, and my review reflected that. This review overwrites my first. A week ago we were in the vicinity and hungry for some lunch so we called in. We waited a long time for our lunch (the po'boi and fancy avo on toast) but when it did finally arrive (with an apology) it was so delicious that all was forgiven. We returned today and had the chicken Mexican salad and the Reuben sandwich. Service was quicker and our meals were super-delicious. Followed it up with a wonderfully intense syrupy espresso.
Brillat_Savarin
Food was pretty decent, coffee so inconsistent. Just another 'Melbourne' style cafe keeping up with food/coffee trends. Service average too.
Molly Gray
To Josh (Below). Josh, your comment is irrelevant regarding the wait for a coffee. Imagine the orders they receive in a full restaurant, having to nail every one- not to mention the variety of the drinks menu. Just because you ordered a double espresso does not mean you get front of the line... why does everyone think they go to the front of the line if they are takeaway ?!
It's people like you that need to work in the industry before you comment !
nothing annoys me more.
Happylittleeater
Perception shouldn't be reality. Where to start? Much as been said and written about Touchwood, with people happy to wait 30 minutes for a table, and even longer for food once seated. If it's said to be good, then it is? But having been in on a quiet weekday morning a little while back i encountered no form of engagement from the staff upon entry other than 'here for a coffee?' Even when paying, no real engagement other than 'paying for the coffee?' Coffee was nice, but it was standard latte and the menu did look interesting. But in the end breakfast places are dime a dozen and for me there isn't much to differentiate Touchwood from other similar establishments. Guess perception is reality for most.. shame

Great atmosphere and service, food was well presented. Po boy was very bland and coleslaw was bitter and inedible.
Josh
10 minutes for a takeaway coffee seriously? This isn't a one off either, every time I grab one (and regret after the long wait) I see 4 trams pass in the time it takes your barista to do a double espresso. Ill be getting my morning coffee elsewhere

Was served by such a lovely smiley girl on New Year's Eve . Really made the breakfast extra special

I'll have to come back to try breakfast too!. Went for a late lunch on a lazy Sunday with the hubby. Ordered the Reuben sandwich and the po boy between us, and freshly squeezed juices. My po boy with toasted ciabatta, lightly battered prawns and generous rockling with hot sauce and aioli with coleslaw on the side was the best sandwich I've had in a long time!! So delicious! Sadly, the hubby's Reuben was lacking flavour, with its corned beef, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut, with a pickle and potato chips on the side. Juices were good (oj & watermelon/mint), and we left satisfied. All day breakfasts mean I'm coming back with my breakfast buddy (hubby not too keen on going out for breakfast) and trying more out before the final verdict.

A nice addition to Bridge Road. I chose Touchwood for a brunch with a friend last week on the favourable write-up in Broadsheet and was overall pleased with my decision. We enjoyed some excellent lattes with our breakfasts. My friend had the tequila cured salmon. It was a feast for the eyes and tasty to boot, but she thought it had too many elements. There were a lot of accompaniments with this dish including beetroot relish, smashed peas, poached eggs and dill creme fraiche. Whilst they added to the visual appeal of the dish, it felt like there were too many flavours on the plate to enjoy the salmon. My friend also commented that the creme fraiche seemed to have a sweet flavour which she didn't enjoy.

I had the lauded waffles. The waffles themselves seemed heavy. Again, a really spectacular looking dish. I enjoyed the flavours to begin with, but about halfway through, it just started to taste sweet and one dimensional. The peanut marscapone was a little too light on in flavour to compete with the berries.

Having said all this though, we are still keen enough to go back to try the Touchwood Massive - chops for breakfast? Oh yeah!

The interior is deceptively large and decor is clean, simple and complementary to the food. Service was friendly and perfectly attentive.

After hearing great reviews the time finally came for me to check it out for myself. We strolled in a Saturday morning and the two of us got a seat at a round communal table. The interior fitout of Touchwood is quality. Bright and spacious and a good buzz. The menu is great and I struggled what to order as I was torn between dishes. The breakfast board was my eventual selection and it delivered the goods. Fresh OJ, with a poached egg on toast with beetroot relish (super) and some of the tastiest muesli and yoghurt I've had. Couldn't be happier. The avocado on toast w beetroot relish was also a popular choice. Coffee wise my cappuccino did the job but could have done with a healthier froth and a bit bigger cup (seemed smaller than usual). Overall though Touchwood ticks all the boxes and will be seeing me again.

Another visit: super relaxed joint, great service/staff

I went in for a coffee today and it was terrible! It was bitter and not up to temperature. Very disappointed!! Won't be going back in a hurry.

Nothing but good things to say. Had the morning grain, great portion size - and the dressing is delish! Asked for the best soy fw and they delivered. Keep it up touchwood!

This place competes at the price point (plus associated design good looks) with places in the same suburb like The Fair (amazing), Friends of Mine, Top Paddock, Pillar of Salt, Dimitri's Feast and a few others that even from day 1 have been at or close to the top of their game so it needs to gather momentum quick.

New favourite haunt. Visited Touchwood for the first time on Sunday and enjoyed it so much I decided to pop in again today. Really lovely, airy space to sit down in, the food is beautifully presented and my coffee was the bomb - in fact I'm pretty sure it was the best ever. Also had a really attentive staff member waiting me. Great experience, will be making it a regular.
Fitfoody
Quinoa salad was good. Just don't add $5 for lamb skewers. Tough and very dry.
Roberto
Clean, quick & simple. Good, fresh food. Coffee was a bit off but overall a good venue.

Loved it!. In a suburb not lacking in cafes, it takes a special something to stand out above the rest. Laid back atmosphere, courteous, attentive and friendly staff, innovative food choices and excellent coffee- what's not to love?

I had the breakfast board special - great choice for those who don't know what they want or who like a bit of everything?

D had the tequila cured salmon- a delightful assortment of poached eggs, beetroot, smashed peas, crème fraiche, sautéed endive and toast. - I'm a massive fan of bringing peas to the breakfast menu.

Worst service and experience. Long wait, food wasn't that great for what you pay. The customer is not right in this place, waited an hour for food but got told by staff its only been half an hour, sometimes you just want to hear sorry but they are not capable of it. Won't be back.
Sammie
Best atmosphere and has a really nice modern vibe to it. Great place to go on a summery day especially the decking out the back with their homegrown herbs! It almost feels like a second home! Worry about the lack of enthusiasm and the sometimes standoffish staff though.
Coffeegirl
Looks good, but.... Lunch on Monday 4/11, coffee good, food average,Quinoa and pomegranate salad with lamb skewers, Lamb skewers were tuff and gristle!, and my husbands burger was dry.

This was a favourite of mine until the experience today. While it took 10 min to get a table at 1 pm, we waited 45 min for our food to arrive. The gentleman who waited our area was helpful and apologetic. The others not so. Due to the wait and the sun scorching my back as we sat in the outdoor area, I was starting to feel dizzy. We asked for a table indoor but were told there were none available. I had lost my appetite by the time the food arrived. To add insult to injury, the couple beside us were offered complimentary coffees because they made a bigger fuss than we did and despite us having waited longer for our food. So this is how they reward patient and understanding customers. Never again will we make a special trip here and we'll stick with Top Paddock next time.

-----03 Nov, 2013-----

It took about 25 min to get a table and another 25 for our food to arrive once ordered. Was it worth the wait? Abso-bloody-lutely. The tequila and lime cured salmon with smashed peas, beetroot relish, lemon and dill creme fraiche and poached eggs was sublime. The strong 5 Senses coffee was just the antidote to the day. From start to finish, the service was efficient and the front-of-house was even apologetic about the wait. With such a well-appointed space, Touchwood is without question an instant favourite.

Fantastic!. I read the reviews about bad service and was put off about going but found the staff all to be lovely and efficient ..
Our meals were served in 15 minutes and and were delicious !
The morning grain salad was one of the best things I've tasted in quite a while ! Going back this morning ! !

Nice decor, friendly staff, big portions, average coffee

We live half a block up from TW so have been eager to try out. Today we came in earlish (830) and were seated right away. Service was friendly and more importantly the coffee was great! I ordered the Morning Grain Salad which was absolutely delicious! What a great way to start the day with a bowl of healthy goodness. Will be back soon! Thank you Touchwood for coming to Richmond!

Went early on Sunday morning to avoid the wait. Service was excellent and food was brilliant also. Scrambled eggs spot on with good portion size and a good fresh OJ. Will definitely return
George
Love their sister cafe so decided to try. Very odd you can't eat at the communal table. We finally were seated (expected a wait as it's new). We were warned breakfast could take 25-30 mins. It was an 60 mins. I was hangry... Hungry angry. Need to work on high volume of customers. Food, coffee, atmosphere, interior decor and space were great though!

Atmosphere good Salad no taste. Met a friend for lunch here today. It is a nice atmosphere and room for prams. We both ordered the salad with rocket, buffata, peas...but...it really had no taste. At least the vinaigrette needed more acid. The coffee was a bit off too. Will try again and see if next go round is better since service and atmosphere is nice.

Visited this cafe for the first time on a Sunday morning, & I haven't stopped thinking about the delicious brunch of cured salmon, poached eggs & smashed peas etc that I ordered since! Super impressed with tge menue; it was a hard choice. Staff were super friendly & attentive. The 25 minute wait was well worth it, & flew by as we sipped take away coffee & chatted in a corner. These owners are pro's at putting together A-class cafe's, in city which is over flowing with outstanding food and coffee. Really excited to go try the rest of the menu.

Meh. We came here for breakfast and departed feeling underwhelmed, especially considering the attention this cafe is currently receiving and how busy it was. The breakfast menu errs towards being pretentious and unnecessarily complicated (I feel sorry for the guys in the kitchen - prep must be a nightmare!). My observation of the people around me was that the traditional breakfast options (eg poached/scrambled/fried eggs on toast) were preferred over the more complicated options. My husband had the scrambled eggs with bacon and his only complaint was that the crust of the toast was so hard it was inedible. I had the 5 grain porridge, and while tasty enough, was too sweet and creamy for my liking. The coffee was good and service was ok. We may return if the menu changes.
Vicky
One of the best. The morning grain salad is divine.

So happy to have this new addition on bridge rd. if you go in with the mindset that you will have to wait then you won't be disappointed (it's a new cafe with owners who have a great reputation, it's going to be busy people). Waited 15 minutes (just as the woman had told us) on a Saturday morning for a table of 3 (excellent by Melbourne standards!!).
The place is huge, bright and airy, with room to spread out. Was warned about wait for coffees but when they arrived I was not disappointed (nice and strong like I'd requested). The food came out quickly and we were all full to the brim by the end (recommend the avo on toast) the grain salad is deceivingly filling also. Did not feel rushed at all and were left to digest the yummy feast in peace.
A++, don't listen to the negative reviews (with some clearly coming from surrounding cafés), well done, next week - Barry!!

Great food. Great service. In and out within half an hour. Love the space and the vibe.
Annabel Barton
Cool cafe atmosphere, but disappointed with watery coffee, a menu that doesn't live up to what it says, and a girl on the till with a real attitude problem who put a dampner on our experience
John
Nice space - big and airy. Food is good as well
Jeremy
Sadly, the reviews about service are true. Expect an unpleasant attitude and you probably won't be disappointed.

Coffee is fine, but not worth putting up with the service.

Lighten up whingers, this place has nailed it. Touchwood opened just over two weeks ago and has absolutely nailed it by way of location, fitout, menu, coffee and service. And surprise, surprise people, they are packed to the rafters and busier than just about every other cafe in Melbourne.

I visited on a Thursday for lunch, was served by a very friendly waitress and thoroughly enjoyed my coffee and open smoked salmon bagel. The atmosphere was compelling and everwhere I looked people were enjoying themselves.

Well done to the owners - for a young bunch of lads they have done exceptionally well and will continue to do so from this venture

To all those rubbishing the slow service and time it takes to get meals out, can I suggest you treat yourselves to a large glass of estrogen enhanced milk to rebalance your hormones and maybe you will realise a few cold hard truths about this place we call modern earth. When you do something well, the people will come...

Annoyingly portraying an attitude that it's too cool for where it is. Better suited to south of the Yarra. Average food, like warm tea (that took 15 mins to arrive) and staff scattered everywhere doing their utmost to be either over zealous or completely ignorant. And looking like they all hated being there. An establishment that appears a good example of how not to establish a culture. Less attitude and friendlier welcome and stay might be a good area to start fixing things quickly.

Great food, made sour by disappointing service.. Excellent food. Cool, stylish atmosphere. Shame the staff are too cool - service was not efficient nor pleasant - not what you'd expect from a well polished cafe like this, there are some basic principles in hospitality that should be adhered to. Waited some time before drinks order taken - when we asked to order coffee, our request was met with rudeness by a waiter who turned his back on us. Thankfully then waited on by a different and more pleasant waitress. Drinks and food all came out at different times.

Amazing menu! Great new addition to Bridge road.

Touchwood another amazing one on the belt for these boys!

Its Worth the wait! With their amazing food, decor is fresh, loft style, open & bright use of raw materials - easily the newest hottest spot around! (Better than stables!) We grabbed a take away coffee whilst we waited to be seated with the hype of the waiting crowd & my soy flat white was perfect & I'm a coffee snob! It tide me over until we were seated! The rest blew me away!
Delish!

My friend Steve has a lot of emotional issues. I have been trying to get him to open up to me for months now; every Sunday brunch we sit at some trendy cafe within a 4km radius of Melbourne GPO and talk about the weather or some other suitably pedestrian topic. Well one Sunday we decided to try Torchwood because Steve really liked the mid 00s British science fiction drama. A twenty minute wait out the front was initially quite off putting but then we saw our friends Ana and Bela. It was weird to see them waiting out the front of a cafe because Ana hardly eats and Bela seems to throw most of her meals up. Finally we were seated and from the moment Steve's jumbo late arrived he opened up. He unloaded the weight of the world as we tucked into our schnitzel and cures salmon respectively. Respect is a funny thing, I respect Steve because he looks so beautiful dressed as a woman but Steve's dad doesn't respect him when he's in drag... Weird. The coffee tasted weird.

Went in on Thursday at 9am and the cafe was quite full and had a great buzz. Coffee was awesome & came out fast. Food was great too, menu seems to be aimed towards female patrons. I chose the beans (the most "blokey" menu item) and it was perfect.
A nice addition to Bridge road

Impressed. I pass by this place pretty often and its always busy. Some friends had been in for lunch on the day it opened and rated the food really highly.earlier this week I passed at a quiet time and decided to go in for a coffee to escape the wind/rain. The space is great and very pram/buggy friendly. No overbearing music or decor. I ordered cake and coffee and felt immediately relaxed - I'm not sure if I was served by the manager, but she was so attentive and quickly gathered I was way stressed out by getting caught in the rain. SHe brought my coffee and took my baby off my hands for ten minutes so I could enjoy it in peace!! I'm going to bring my parents here for brunch over the weekend, I checked out the menu and it looks fabulous. I hope the people who have commented on 'bad' service gave them this feedback as they seem like the sort of place open to it and would I'm sure be really disappointed to hear. Looking forward to going back.
PS the cake and the coffee were both delish.

I checked urban spoon after I dined at Touchwood and I am quite shocked to see people are so unhappy. I was greeted immediately upon walking in the door and had a coffee order taken right away. My breakfast arrived within 15 minutes, a very respectable time. I ordered the waffles. while I was expecting fluffy belgian style waffles, i wasn't disappointed thinner waffle that arrived.
My coffee was delicious and I certainly did not feel as though it was too weak.
The interior is beautiful and it is worth checking out the communal table.
If I didn't know better I would have thought this cafe had been open much, much longer. Well done guys. Ill def be back

Weak, tasteless coffee and bad service.. Checked out this cafe which is new to Richmond (though I understand it is in a couple of other suburbs). One reviewer commented that Bridge Road needed a good cafe. This is not it; the coffee is not good and the service, on my visit, was lamentable (mistaken order and general confusion with an intrinsic part of the order served very late). While I agree that there is a dearth of good cafes on Bridge Road, there is actually an excellent one just up from Touchwood. That cafe is Flaunt.
Mikey
Bridge Rd was in need of a good cafe and this is it!! Loved it this first time round and will be back!

Busy, Great Coffee, Friendly. Great, spacious venue!! Surprised to see some of the reviews about bad service, we came here on Sunday when the place was as full as it could get but our chatty, charming British waitress couldnt do enough for us. There was a wait for coffee and food - but both were worth the wait. Knowledgable coffee and food recommendations came from our waitress, a really nice touch. I had the spiced beans and the rest of my party opted for the burger, tacos and a qunoa salad. We will definitely come back, perhaps for breakfast next time.
Lana McLean
The cafe looks fantastic, staff were nice and coffee was good. My friend ordered the burger which he said was nice. I ordered the peanut butter and jelly waffles which sounded delicious on the menu... they were so bland and dry, I still feel sick in the stomach 3 hrs after eating them. I don't think I'll make the trip to a busy Bridge Rd again.
Bess
Very tempting menu, was hard to decide what to have! Went for the cured salmon, mushy peas and beetroot relish - delicious. Staff were great and very accommodating (our party included 2 strollers and required some table rearrangement). Will definitely be back to work through the menu!

Pretty delicious!!. Went in a group and the food was all great. i had the morning salad, it was delicious and really fresh. decent sized serve. our group had the omellete, the salmon and eggs, schnitzel and the po bo. it was all great and decent serving sizes. the waitress could have cracked a smile at some stage though.

Delish!. Last Friday, i found myself in a very comfortable, roomy cafe, surrounded by friendly staff! We shared the avocado toast which was pretty special and different, served with beetroot relish, pickled onions, burnt lime and topped with seeds - a very clean tasting dish! Craving worthy!! We then finished with the fresh and poached seasonal fruits which was beautiful, topped with yummy candied pecans and labne. I'll be back this week, although having regard to past comments, I'll try to avoid peak periods - everyone should know there will be a wait for food the first week a cafe opens in Melbourne, cut them some slack!!

Loved the large omelette and the fresh juice. Really nice staff and room to move. Would definitely recommend!

The sausage in the spiced beans was incredible. Great service. Relaxed feel and cool interior. Will definitely be coming back!

1 Hour wait for food..... The cafe looks fantastic and the staff are very friendly, however an hour wait for food wasn't ideal! Given that Pilar of Salt is my all time favorite cafe I'm willing to go back in a few months time to give it a second go, as I'm hoping there are just a few teething issues they need to get over being a new cafe. Jamie was our waiter and very friendly, so no fault with the staff. Food and coffee were also great.

THE WORST SERVICE. THE FOOD WAS BAD
THE SERVICE WAS EVEN WORSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Fantastic. Avocado toast with a poached egg was perfect. The beetroot is a highlight, the egg was perfectly poached and the avocado serving was extremely generous!
Sitting outside in the courtyard was lovely and the waitress was helpful. Will be back again next weekend!
Christine De Luis
Light, bright & spacious interior. Service was friendly & attentive. Coffee & Food was tasty (didnt have to wait too long either). Considering its thier first weekend open, I think they are doing really well! Will be visting again to try more items off the menu.

Service please !!!!!!. I find it really sad when hospitality staff are not taught to manage a potentially negative situation. When a diner becomes impatient for their food, responding with hostility never results in a positive situation.
Agreed, that there will be teething issues when opening a new venue, however, that's when staff need to also be understanding when diners become impatient after waiting for over 45 minutes for their meals !!!
On a positive note... the food was delicious.

Good Food. The food was really good, highly recommend the Beans and Cotechino - but - service was really bad. Drinks came out in good time, but food took way too long and when we asked where it was we were met with a sour attitude.
Dbd
Great food, sh*t service. Granted they've only been open a while, but attitude doesn't require latitude when newly opened...

The food was excellent, but took nearly 50 mins to arrive (!!!). The blonde waitress with glasses that was serving us has a real attitude problem - when asked if our meals were far off, she scowled & said no. Then when asked to expedite the kids meal, she really didn't do much other than enquire with the kitchen when the meal would be due (we were sitting right at the service area).

I'll give it another go in a few weeks, hopefully the kitchen will have gotten into a rhythm by then & obnoxious staff such as the one described will have gotten over herself!
Sandra
Likes it. Service was great. the omelette was huge and delicious
Paddle
Mixed feelings. Just had a coffee as I saw this place newly opened. It's huge inside, really surprising for this area.

The coffee was ok, average by Richmond standards id say. And yes a bit weak.

The decor is nice and simple with lovely hanging plants.

The food looks great.

I'm not so sure about the service as I only got a coffee I felt like I had to leave straight away even though there were lots of free tables.

Anyway it looks like they're still going with the decor so I might go back when service and coffee are the priorities!

Love it!!. Brand new and killing it already. Had the green juice (Kale, cucumber etc) and the brekky salad - both were fresh, perfectly portioned and delicious. Big bright space, with lots of attentive staff and greenery. Will definitely be back.

:-) Day 2 and could not fault a thing, from the friendly staff , the gorgeous space & the yummy food ❤️ Definitely be back !

I was here for the main event: the peanut butter and jelly waffles. I lather peanut butter and jam so thick on crumpets you can see it from space. I was ready for this.

Touchwood is a cozy cafe with huge indoor seating area, and a private backyard to soak in the sun. We nestled indoors because it was a little too hot outside. Not that you should be surprised, most furnitures are made out of wood, and check how cute is this corner setting. That's where we sat. Morning Grain Salad, 16AUD Summertime leave you calling for lighter meals (just... sometimes). This Morning Grain Salad would give you a surge of energy with mixed grains combining quinoa, freekeh and wild rice. Lots of bitter rockets but fret not, there's chai soaked raisins that sweetens. The dressing was a light cumin yoghurt that felt almost like its barely even there. There were almonds and that's always nice because these babies are compounded with good fats and Vitamin E. Banana And Blueberry Wholemeal Waffles, 15AUD Well, lets just be honest here.. I came to Touchwood for its pretty waffles after looking at it from multiple instagrammers whom I am following. It was beautiful. It was though, just waffles with basic ingredients of blueberry, bananas, creme fraiche, strawberry dust on top, and organic maple syrup surrounding it. And I guess the floral petals boosted the sales for these waffles by an incremental amount. Um, surely right? There is no denying it that a simple dish can be delicious as well, and I do believe they do a good basic. Avocado Toast #2, 17AUD + Poached Egg, 2.50AUD Hashtag two because there was a hashtag one, Avocado Toast with something else. Either way, we all prefered the #2 option, which comes with smoked salmon, feta and mint. Its a Melbournian classic, come on.. I am sure you can imagine how this taste like. This is just one section of the cafe. There is the front portion that has communal tables, while the door towards the back leads to an outdoor backyard. Many have complained regarding the poor service at Touchwood but I did not face such problems with the staffs and they were all great. Food came really quickly too. If I come back, I woul
Steak Me Out
We ordered the Fruit bread, but swapped out normal butter for their maple butter, the avocado toast option 1 (beetroot relish, burnt lime, pickled red oinion, coriander and sumac salt among other things) with a side of bacon and a lamb chop.
Chasing A Plate
The space is open, fresh, modern and inviting. After waiting for about 20 minutes for a table we were seated outside at a communal table in a sweet court-yard which will be sun drenched come summer time.

Five senses beans means you are guaranteed a good coffee, and the green juice is extremely refreshing (especially after running the tan!) The portion sizes are decent and the pricing is reasonable. I often find these days it is quite hard for larger cafes to have all four elements (food, coffee, service and ambience) of a high standard, however Touchwood seems to know what they are doing and pretty damn good at performing on a consistent level. 1476623_10152079376205295_1498702114_n

I’m yet to visit a trunk related cafe I haven’t enjoyed, touch wood of course. Puns aside, with a brother cafe called Tall Timber, a Lumberjack cafe two doors down and Jacques Reymond to become Woodland, it seems the tall giants are making their mark. Touch Wood on Bridge Road is no exception. Its slightly remote placement, down that ‘other’ end of Bridge Rd, hasn’t stemmed (pun intended) the steady flow of customers as evident by the guaranteed wait on weekends. This is despite an open double storefront that runs deep onto the property and a selection of outdoor seating. The secret is out for Touch Wood but the service is quick and organised. You may have to wait but it won’t be for too long. It’s then time to pick your poison with 5 senses being the chosen brew. On a warm day like the one I visited, the iced and cold drip varieties are highly tempting. All methods of delivery step up to the cup with a strong,

Touchwood is a newly opened cafe in Richmond, with a modern, 'woody' interior. It has that vibe which is synonymous with other cafes around the area. The food and quality is of a high quality, service is friendly, but the wait for coffee and meals is a bit too long. Cappuccino - $3.80 Latte - $3.80 Hot Chocolate - $4.50 I don't usually order drinks with meals, but the menu said the Hot Chocolate was by Mork, so I decided to give it a try. It had a good chocolate flavour, not overly sweet, and it was very smooth, even though I am assuming it was powdered and not liquid. My only complaint was it was not hot enough, and I am usually one complaining that hot drinks are too hot. Tequila and citrus cured salmon, poached eggs, smashed peas, dill, lemon creme fraiche, sauteed endive, sourdough toast - $17.50 The components of the dish went complemented each other very well, and the overall taste of the dish was really fresh. The salmon was the highlight however, I w
Confessions Of A Little Piggy
Brainchild from the guys behind Coin Laundry , Station Street Trading Co., Pillar of Salt and Tall Timber, I wasn't surprised that we were greeted by a small queue. But that's okay, I secretly like lines. Seating up to 110 eager brunch goers, Touchwood was full to the brim. The place was buzzing, with wait staff in soft grey aprons fluttering here, there and everywhere. I particularly found the modern and bright space aesthetically pleasing with clean white walls and timber tables, highlighted by the natural light streaming through the large front store windows. Skinny Flat White Of course, I went for my usual cuppa - a smooth blend from Five Senses which went down a treat. Tequila and
50 First Dates Melbourne
Touchwood is an absolutely huge cafe near the corner of Bridge and Burnley. The place just keeps on going as you walk through the restaurant and out the back to the (sometimes) sunny deck. As food bloggers and breakfast lovers flock to Top Paddock and co for the must-have Melbourne breakfast, Touchwood are offering locals a clever and tasty breakfast menu all coupled with a mean coffee bean. And although she is a big cafe, she is still very sexy. As the name suggests there is plenty of wood and this is all enhanced by long white brick walls. Richmond is full of great cafes, but with greatness comes long waiting times; however with their whooping space maybe Touchwood can buck the trend. Your date will not only be impressed with your choice, they will applaud you for your local knowledge.

.For all peanut butter fiends out there, this is for you. Imagine dense wholemeal peanutty waffles, topped with peanut butter made airy and fluffy with whipped ricotta, drizzled with sweet luscious berry jam and finally speckled with crunchy sugary nut brittle.

Our dishes were so beautifully presented, just the way a lot of new cafes are now serving brunch dishes. Gone are the days where bigger is better. It’s refreshing to be able to have a clean, light brunch to start the day without having having to resort to a fruit salad as the only way to achieve this! PG loved his omelette, a little more than he actually expected to. He even compared it to the ‘Golden Folded Scrambled eggs’ from Porgie, Friends of Mine, Snow Pony and Stables of Como – big call! He loved the addition of the basil oil lightly drizzled around the plate, and the omelette itself had a slight unexpected chili kick to it. Despite looking like quite a light dish, he felt quite full at the end of it.

Touchwood is collaborative effort from the partners – Matt Vero and Steve Rowley – behind Coin Laundry (Armadale), Station Street Trading Co (Port Melbourne), Tall Timber (Prahran), Pillar of Salt (Richmond) and Barry (Northcote). They have enlisted Tristan White (ex-Ladro and Red Door) to look after the food side of things. Touchwood serves coffee from 5 Senses and is served from the custom made Synesso Hydra coffee machine. Touchwood is located at Bridge road in Richmond (quite close to its sister café Pillar of Salt). It is located in an old recycled timber furniture store and takes on a MASSIVE SPACE – it can seat 120 people. There are large glass windows at the front which let lots of light and air into the venue, this entrance opens out into the main dining area. As you keep walking through the brick archway there is a back room with more seating and then finally outside at the back, there is a bright, sunny and open courtyard which seats 40. had a break this week from uni so I had time some spare time to spend with my friends and go out and check out some new cafes. I hung out with my friend Baz on Monday and he suggested Touchwood, he had been there over the weekend and said he wouldn’t mind going back. It was great because there was not queue, I think you can wait up to 20 minutes for a table on the weekend not that that would have been a problem for me anyway because I always carry around my book with me and waiting time equals reading time, so I am always happy. There is so much space in Touchwood, and it’s filled with light which creates a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Baz and I sat up near the counter on the long communal table which was nice, I like sitting in places that give me a good view of everything around me. Baz ordered the Morning Grain Salad – Quinoa, freekeh, wild rice, rocket, toasted almonds, chai soaked raisins, cumin yoghurt, poached e

Ah yes, my love affair with Melbourne’s brunching scene continues.

The overall combination was a delightful sweet versus savoury concoction with no distinctly overpowering flavour.

So. I love breakfast. I also love lunch, dinner, brunch, linner, supper (whatever that equates to), and snack time…and nap time. I recently ventured to Touchwood for a brunch with AB and this place really is one of the greatest.

I really want to like Touchwood given that it’s so close to work and some of the other menu items looked quite good (peanut butter and jelly waffles!). For now though I might let them settle in for a bit and give them another go a bit later.
Touchwood

I had a bowl of fat baked beans, interspersed with earthy mushrooms, clouds of tangy goats cheese and salty bacon.
The World Loves Melbourne
Touchwood is a brilliant cafe and a welcome addition to the Bridge Road scene (we've been to nearly all of them). It ticks all the boxes of alluring ambience, fab coffee and outstanding cuisine, which is no surprise as the owners Matt Vero and Steve Rowley are experienced and successful cafe people (Pillar of Salt, Coin Laundry, Tall Timber and other royalty). Walk in and notice the large windows, funky areas including the courtyard, plenty of space, smattering of plants, white room (always think of The Cream song) and a creative menu from Tristan White. It has the feeling of "people that know what they're doing."

For brunch I ordered a Peanut Butter, Jelly Waffles w/ Poached Raspberries & Whipped Peanut Butter Ricotta! Can you say OH-EM-GEE?!
How amazing does this look?! It’s like heaven served on a plate! haha. I was expecting the dish to be crazy sweet but turned out to be balanced with the creaminess of the whipped peanut butter ricotta, the tartness of the poached raspberries. They also added texture with peanut brittle and slithered almonds.
Sofia Levin
Trend factor aside, the food is what makes Touchwood... Breakfast ranges from the healthy (morning grain salad with quinoa, freekeh, wild rice, rocket, toasted almonds, chai soaked raisins, cumin yoghurt and a poached egg) to the downright indulgent (peanut butter and jelly wholemeal waffles, poached raspberries, whipped peanut butter ricotta and peanut brittle).
Melbourne Food Files
You might think waiting 20 minutes for a coffee is absurd, but at Richmond’s latest brunch hot spot, it’s standard. Welcome to Touchwood, the latest brainchild from Matt Vero and Steve Rowley (Station Street Trading Co., Tall Timber and the recently sold Coin Laundry ) and brothers Kael and Matt Sahely ( Pillar of Salt ), along with their recent in-law Jamie McBride. Head chef Tristan White (Red Door and Ladro) has also been brought in to devise a creative and well considered menu. With so much pedigree behind them, there’s little fear of failure. Behind enormous glass windows on the furniture end of Bridge Rd, lies a rather large expanse of white walls and timber tables. Though the cafe is rather big (it seats 120), there’s little feeling of overcrowding. The interior is lofty and minimal, a breath of fresh air from the current industrial trend going on in Melbourne at the moment. The menu

Tthe only things I'd known about Touchwood was that it's brand spanking new, serves 5 Senses coffee, and seats 110. What we found was a large, spacious cafe which was bright, minimalist but welcoming, with concrete floors and a liberal use of wood for furnishing. The back opens up to a wood-decked cou

I opted for a bevy of beverages including a coconut marinated cold drip coffee and the salted caramel hot chocolate by Mork.

The cold coffee was strangely pleasant and I liked the subtle hint of coconut. Having the milk on the side was also a nice touch. It was a good palate cleanser for the rich creamy sweet chocolate by Mork.

Somewhere in Richmond, people are queuing up for a spot at the brunch table. It’s a standard scene for a Sunday morning and we obediently fell into line. It was a bit of a wait but they eventually found a roundtable for our big group. Roundtables are fantastic as they enable much more interaction around and across the table. My simple poached eggs were perfectly made and the accompanying toast pieces were also just simply good. All the other girls were equally impressed with their choices and my favorite was the beautifully presented porridge that R ordered.

I’m lured back to the menu for Touchwood‘s signature dish - peanut butter and jelly waffles ($16). This Elvis-style calorific dish comprises poached raspberries with a vibrant sauce and chunks of peanut brittle along with a large mound of whipped peanut butter ricotta. The waffles are just crisp from the waffle iron and using wholemeal flour (the only concession to health in this dish) means that they are dense enough that the PB&J combination doesn’t disintegrate the segments. My only quibble is that I would have preferred the cold contrast of ice cream instead of the very subtly flavoured ricotta.
