Review Thanh Nga Nine - Richmond

S C
Like most places here on Vic Street, I come here for a specific dish and the dish here is Bun Bo Xao. It’s a vermicelli noodle salad with beef in fish sauce. It’s an excellent dish that is filling but at the same time not feeling bloated afterwards. Staff here work fast and prices are reasonable.

We always come here, the customer service is pretty good. The guy who runs the place is smiley and friendly, his english is great! The quality of food is very good, the place is clean and mostly busy. I like the variety of the menu that makes me happy as a vegetarian and my partner who isn't. There is a reason why we keen coming here, reccomend!

Thanh NGA Nine - Victoria Street, Richmond Bún bò Huế A couple of months ago I travelled to Vietnam - Some of my most memorable dishes were Bún bò Huế. The Bún bò Huế served on the side of the roads by some seriously skilled chefs that pour their heart and soul into that one dish. In vietnam the dish has everything, strong, bold and aromatic spicy broth and an assortment of toppings - congealed blood, vietnamese ham (Chả lụa) and my favourite which is impossible to find in Australia - thinly chopped banana flower! For the past few years it’s been one of my missions to find Australia/Melbourne’s leading Bun Bo Hue so whenever I see it present on a menu named Bún bò Huế and not “SPICY BEEF NOODLE SOUP” I make an effort to order it, even if in the instance of Thanh NGA Nine they have a bunch of other delicious options like Banh Canh Cua (Crab Soup). The soup came out to my table after a while and I was faced with some grisly pieces of beef and pork and some thickly cut vietnamese ham. Unfortunately these ingredients compared to nearby restaurants were on the lower end of the quality spectrum. I appreciated the amount of coriander and spring onion that was layered on top of the broth but that was where it all ended for me. I’m a bit of an odd type, I like my viet soup with egg noodles if the option is there, I just love the consistency and bouncy texture of them. They were completely overcooked here and very soggy. Perhaps I caught the restaurant on a bad day but the broth lacked the aromatic lemongrass tinged flavour that I have come to expect from the dish. When I eat BBH I want to be having a textured somewhat murky umami laden experience but this just didn’t quite cut it, the broth was way too clean and clear to be of any significance. I’m keen to head back to Thanh NGA Nine, not for their Bun Bo Hue but to try their other dishes as it was busy and I left questioning myself and wondering if my soup detector was off this evening. Comment below if you have a favourite restaurant for the delicious Bún bò Huế and help me find the one!! 🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢 Broth Flavour: 🍜🍜.5/5 Soup ingredients: 🍜🍜.5/5 Service: 🍜🍜🍜.5/5 Overall: 🍜🍜.5/5 🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢

Great food and service. A bit more expensive than otherwise surrounding Vietnamese restaurant but they do have some more oustanding dishes. There could be flies let inside since they often have their windows open so could get a bit annoying. Highly recommend the special crab drop noodles or "banh canh cua'

Top quality food and super friendly staff Though the meal prices are at the high end for the area Try the Vietnamese Pan Cake, The Pork Chop or The Sizzling Pork Ribs Table Settings basic & clean but standard for the area Local and Foreign beers available

Good beef Pho, for takeaways they put the raw meat and the hot broth in separate containers. Something to take into account when you're not heading home right away as you won't have a way to re-heat the broth and wait for the meat to get cooked in it if the broth gets cold.

The best place for Bang Khot (Vietnamese mini prawn pancakes). They serve it here with coconut cream, which adds that little extra deliciousness. Staff are friendly, place is clean (enough) and food is served fast and hot. Also try their crab meat rice drop noodles!

Authentic Vietnamese food. Service is quick with consistent great quality dishes. Very friendly staff too. Love the combination broken rice dish.

Thanh Nga Nine is a nice Vietnamese restaurant in Richmond. One of my favourite Vietnamese dishes is Bun and the beef bun here did not disappoint. It was a generous serving size and lovely flavours. <br/>For dessert a friend and I shared the Sweet Tofu Balls - they were delicious. Highly recommend these if you like something sweet after going out for dinner. <br/>Prices are reasonable and the extra discount through Zomato Gold was fantastic.

This place used to be a really really nice restaurant. So much so that we would frequent it a few times a week, even with a 40 min drive each way. Over the years it has gone down hill... fast!!! Never again will I visit this place even if it was the only restaurant open. <br/><br/>Our fried rice was the smallest portion I have ever seen, it wouldnt have even filled a small rice bowl. Same with the diced beef, for $17, you would expect more than 120grams of beef.<br/><br/>My Vietnamese pancake was bland. The prawns were soo rubbery I couldnt chew it. It came with a small amount of lettuce and herbs, I had to ask for more lettuce. I could go on, but I dont want to waste anymore time than I already have.<br/><br/>If you want great Vietnamese food, go to Vung Tau , a few doors down. Amazing!!

We ordered three dishes: combination fried rice, chicken ribs and the salt and pepper squid. The chicken came first, then the fried rice approximately 10 minutes later, reducing the freshness of the chicken. However the flavour of it and the retaining crunch made up for it, for us, perfectly sweet and salty and also tender which was as good as it gets. The fried rice was decent, again for the price we were paying, the portions were mediocre (slightly exaggerated) but nonetheless, the squid was a “meh” very thin batter, which most restaurants may do differently but the salt and pepper flavour was pronounced, wasn’t the freshest squid but was soft enough. Overall wasn’t too filling and had to drink a bit more hot tea than usual. This could have been a one-off, who knows? Or maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes. If this is consistent I would recommend 3 dishes for 2 and 4 dishes for 3 (ykwim).

Had a wonderful visit here. They have a full vegan menu with loads of great options. My new favourite place for Vietnamese, as most restaurants in Melbourne often aren’t authentic. Service was great too and they were happy to accept my zomato gold. Will definitely be visiting again in the near future!

Good this place was open on a public holiday. The place looks like it finish a lot of orders and was a bit messy. <br/><br/>Ordered the crab noodles and rare beef pho. <br/>The crab noodles was quite nice 🦀🦀🦀🦀<br/>Pho beef was below average 🍲🍲<br/><br/>Took the meal over 27 minutes to arrived . Maybe the chef was too tired ?
Hannah
The soup and sauce are not authentic Vietnamese style. They are plain and taste like Chinese foods. The fried pancakes and shrimp mung bean pie are nice, except for the sauce served with them.
Taylor
The old man who took our order was very rude.<br/>I ordered dropped noodle soup with crab meat, and it was very different from the picture on the menu. It didn't taste good, not worth bearing the rude service.<br/>Chef recommended iced tea was too sweet.

Never again!! Worst broken rice ever! It almost seems they have reused old ingredients! The pork was like a day or two old? Hard and DRY!! it was the size of a PC mouse!! the patty thing was SOUR and hidden under some bean sprouts. Worse still it was fried and in pieces!!! <br/><br/>As I paid I was asked “how was everything?” I gave the dude a glare and looked at my plate. Making sure he knew it was unfinished. I literally had the rice with fish sauce! YMMV

Generally I come to this store for their speciality Viet pancake. Its crispy and comes in a good serving and quite reasonable for the price in I highly recommend. Service can be a bit and a miss sometimes but I've never had problems. I also like their Viet ice coffee as it comes in quite a good size.

This shop sells the traditional pho, noodles and also a variety of shared dishes. The pho is clean tasting and pretty good. The dry noodles are chewy and seasoned nicely. Theres a generous amount of topping too. Will definitely come back next time to try for their egg pancakes.<br/>
Sunny Days Melbourne
On my ongoing quest to discover the best broken rice (after the untimely demise of the great Thy Thy) along the semi decimated Victoria Street in Richmond, I decided to give Thanh Nga Nine a try. <br/><br/>Long story short, while it was not bad and ticked most of the boxes, it still fell short of a perfect score. <br/><br/>The broken rice was of a generous amount. I appreciated the salads being packed separately and the soup was an unexpected but welcome surprise. Unfortunately, the pork was dry, hard and chewy - this was the main issue I had with the dish. <br/><br/>Otherwise, the service was exceptionally friendly and warm. Tea was offered while I waited for my takeaway order to be prepared. <br/><br/>My quest continues........
Some Bunee Loves Food
Ordered the dropped noodles with shredded pork served with coconut milk and fish sauce which was really interesting. First time I've had something that has coconut milk and fish sauce mixed together. The coconut milk was overpowering so not much fish sauce taste there afterwards, so the noodles were a bit sweet and salty.<br/><br/>Also ordered the combination broken rice with pork chop, pork loaf, shredded pork, fried egg, cucumber and beansprouts, fish sauce and a side soup. The pork chop was ok, can do with stronger flavours, the pork loaf was the first time i've had it in that form, and it tasted ok, but a bit salty.
Linda
A lovely and clean space that offered great hospitality. The food was ok, however not as great as some of its competitors down Victoria St. Serving size vs price was fair.

This isn’t our local but felt like trying something new. Glad we did. The service was efficient and friendly, restaurant is modern and clean and quite spacious. The staff were knowledgeable about food intolerances and very helpful, lots of gf options. Food and drinks arrived promptly and was delicious. Will definitely be back.

We visited nearby Vung Tau for my birthday and it was closed for maintenance! Oops. Disappointed, we walked by Thanh Nga Nine and decided to come in because they have bánh khọt in their menu. Best decision I have made.<br/>Service is quick, waitstaffs are polite and speak good English, the young man who also works at the bar was very attentive and I saw him checking on guests about their experience, being friendly in general. Clean and modern interior.<br/>Our food look exactly like the photos and they were delicious! Soc Trang style bánh khọt was lovely - the coconut sauce was to die for! Rare beef papaya salad was packed with tender beef and crunchy papaya, the only downside is that the cracker had lost some crunchiness. I don’t know much about authentic Bún bò Huế but our noodle bowl was super delicious on its own (I want the soup recipe). Finished the meal by sweet taro pudding, served warm with most of that yummy coconut sauce.<br/>Zomato doesn’t let me give a 4.5 so I decided to be generous and give a 5* because there was nothing wrong with our meal. I will definitely be back!

3.5<br/><br/>One of the few places at Melbourne that do the bahn knot the way I like ( these are similar to the Vietnamese pancakes but smaller and have small shrimps in the middle) . As these are essentially mini savoury coconut pancakes I like them served with a side of coconut milk with the fish sauce. The soup noodles here are also quite good but I mainly would only come here for the bahn knot

This vietnamese restaurant is amazing! Had lots to choose from in the menu and everything I wanted to eat, they have it. Huge portions, couldnt finish what we ordered and had to take away. It was so good their food! Definately recommend getting the mini prawn pancakes! its my favouritee! Also the vietnamese pancake looked so good from across the table. Definately coming back to try out more of their food!

Great food, great service. The salt and pepper squid was awesome. Other standout dishes were their Banh Xeo (crispy pancake) and prawn and pork rice paper rolls. All dishes were so well presented. Great value and decent serving sizes left us wobbling back home.

So far, the standout down Victoria st. This is the 6th restaurant I've tried in my quest to get to each and every Vietnamese restaurant down Victoria St. the Pancake was engineered differently in that instead of folding in, they create a UFO like structure to as the owner explained keep the top half more crispy (it worked!). Other standout dishes were the mini prawn pancakes, prawn rice paper rolls, the combination broken rice and BBH (lemongrass noodle soup). We'll definitely be back
Mark White
Great selection of Authentic Vietnamese food. We'll definitely be back next time we pass through. The mini prawn pancakes (Banh Khot) we amazing, also the Large pancake (Banh Xeo).

Decided to try out Thanh Nga 9 on a Thursday night, it was quite busy but they managed to find a nice table for us. We were recommended the mini prawn pancakes, and rice paper rolls for entree which both were well presented and absolutely delicious. For mains, we decided to try their pho and a few other recommended dishes. All dishes came out well proportioned and well presented. We loved pretty much everything served. The most outstanding dishes were the chicken salad pho, pork casserole and the salt and pepper squid. Their Vietnamese iced coffee was also great along with the coconut cake dessert. We'll definitely be back, well proportioned, well presented and decently priced food within walking distance from our new apartment. Definitely a standout amongst all the other Vietnamese restaurants along the street.

Very nice food and good price!! Great having all the extras on the table already.Definitely recommend for the Great Vietnamese cuisine. Also serves complimentary green tea.

It has been such a long time since I last had Vietnamese food and fortunately, the sister and her male companion were easy going enough to bring me to Richmond and get my fix. We randomly walked into a what appears to be a busy restaurant and had our eyes fixated on favourite go to dishes on the menu.

Staff were amazing and friendly. Was a nice quiet find. The ambiance was great! The pancake was one of the best I’ve ever had. Unfortunately the Pho wasn’t something to be desired. But definitely worth a second visit.
Melissa Lincoln
My favourite Vietnamese restaurant. The Vietnamese papaya salad is amazing. Full<br/>of papaya, Viet mint, crunchy bits, peanuts and a good portion of pork and prawns on top. It was a bit to spicy for me so I get the dressing on the side and I can add less to make less spicy.

Food is always exemplary. Staff are friendly, attentive and put up with our chattiness and our bratty kids.<br/>Pho is up there with the best in Melbourne. I can't choose a favorite when they get to this level. They're not stingy with herbs - far from it - and include things like sawtooth coriander that you won't find elsewhere.

*Update: Try the Vegan options. Whether or not you regularly eat plant-based, Thanh Nga Nine serves scrumptious flavours with the right amount herbs, wonderful textures and mouthwatering flavours. The menu boasts a wide selection of Viet treats to guarantee your palate will never get bored. It is definitely bang for your buck. The thing that sets Thanh Nga Nine apart from other places is the warm and welcoming hospitality. Our little mischief makers are well catered for with paper and colouring pencils. The seating is also quite comfortable. A firm favourite in our family!

Diverse menu, large plates and reasonable prices. Personal was a bit noisy, but they are accepting cards and that's the plus. Good in overall

My friend has told me that Vietnamese Crispy Pancake is quite a special thing when they tried in in Vietnam, but it's hard to find them in Melbourne. So when I see that this restaurant has them, I tried it. A big plate of vegetables were served very quickly but it took a while for the pancake. It's worth the wait as it was quite big and wow. I hope I'm doing it correctly by wrapping parts of the pancake in the lettuce with the herbs, and dipping into the fish sauce. It's a bit messy, but very tasty. While it says "Prawn & Pork" on the menu, it's actually full of bean sprouts and mushrooms too. The pancake itself is light and crispy, and not like an omelette, which was what I thought when looking at photos. Great experience!

I am always wary of some of the vietnamese restaurants in Richmond...you never know what's going on 'behind the scenes' in the vicinity. However a friend convinced us to visit this establishment and his constant praise convinced us to check it out (with him of course)! Boy were we NOT disappointed!<br/><br/>While the location could be 'safer' the dishes were a thing of beauty. From the pancake to the prawn crackers, every dish here, be it basic or complex, was cooked to perfection. I couldn't name most of these dishes and that's not due to my lack of vietnamese lingo masterfulness...I was just in a food coma.<br/><br/>The pictures should give you a good idea of the type of dishes we tried that night. A tasty and tantalising night filled with laughter...and of course alertness considering where we were located. If you are looking for an authentic vietnamese cuisine I highly recommend this place. Try not to visit too late though...

First time here (disappointed with our usual in Victoria Street). Was not disappointed, beautiful fresh food. We had pork and prawn rice paper rolls, chicken spring rolls and chilli and lemongrass stir-fry chicken, all was excellent. Loved the fact the food didn't come out pronto, although we were only the second customers in for lunch, just showed the food was cooked to order. Service was excellent too

One of my favourite go to for Vietnamese food in Richmond. Staff is always friendly and food served promptly. You'll have a wide selection of Vietnamese dishes to choose on the menu with dishes from different regions in Vietnam. I always order my favourite Soc Trang mini pancakes to start, and depending on what we feel like on the day we'll try one their many rice, noodles, or soup dishes and most of the time it's a hit. Serving size is consistent with other Vietnamese restaurants in the area but price is a tad higher.

It seemed like this place did put effort in designing its dining area. it was arguably one of the better looking one in richmond. The food was also not bad to be fair but since it is in Richmond, there are restaurants with tastier food. We ordered spicy chicken bunh which was .. allright and diced beef on tomato rice which was way too peppery. The chilli oil was the highlight. Barely spicy but crunchy. the dessert, coconut pancake, was surprisingly good. Better than the mains in my honest opinion. The ice coffee ... i wish it wasnt served that empty looking.

I had my birthday celebration in their private function room upstairs for the first time. I was impressed by their accomodating and friendly service. The food was absolutely delicious. The mini pancakes was the dish of the night according to my guests. I had a memorable and enjoyable night.

This restaurant is so popular among locals in Victoria street. We came early 6 pm and the staff were not prepared for work. The girl forgot to clean the table that we selected and the owner dropped spoons a few times. While the dishes were nice flavoured. We liked the mini pancake most and the pork casserole was yummy as well. The only problem was they coming with small size but a little bit high price. If you wanna date someone , it could be the choice. But if you just wanna authentic Vietnamese food, go somewhere else.

Come here very often. The best mini Vietnamese pancakes on Victoria Street. (Banh Kot in SOC Trang style)<br/><br/>Food is well proved, service is fast. Everything tastes fresh especially the shredded Vietnamese salads usually made with young papaya or mango.<br/><br/>Regularly spend $55 here exactly and fills up two very hungry guys. Usually the Shredded Chicken Salad (Goi Ga) , Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (Bun Bo Hue), Mini Vietnamese Pancakes (Banh Kot in Soc Trang style), and sometimes the large Pork & Prawn Vietnamese Pancake (Banh Xeo).<br/><br/>That's 2 entrees and 2 mains to share, great value and yum.

Update <br/>2.5/5 <br/><br/>I had lunch here yesterday and it was just ok. I’ve had to amend my original review. <br/><br/>The service was very friendly but I asked for rice noodles and they were gluggy and the sauce was watery and the meat chewy. The prawn was nice and fresh but overall this wasn’t a good dish. <br/><br/>And it was expensive at $15 for a lunch dish especially on Victoria St! <br/><br/><br/>Previous review <br/>I went here tonight with my friend and the food and the service was really good. <br/><br/>We both had entrees, and mine was beef n betel leaf. It looked different to what I expected (I was thinking Thai style) but it tasted really good. <br/><br/>We both had a dry noodle chicken style dish with spring rolls and it...

One of the better one ....<br/><br/>We've been coming to this place since opening days, very different interior in comparison to other Vietnamese restaurants in the area.<br/><br/>It has it's ups and downs, mostly consistent.<br/><br/>Plenty on the Menu to try, plenty that I have not heard nor taste before.<br/><br/>Just try, 9/10 you can't be wrong.

Love the red and black theme of the venue. Their BBH and combination broken rice with grilled pork tasted amazing. Both dishes were flavoursome which eccentuated true Vietnamese cuisine. The sizzling chicken with vegetables and ginger was simply fresh and delicious. I will definitely return to try their other dishes.

I absolutely love this restaurant. The staff are lovely and welcoming. The food is fantastic and great value. I had a small event for around 20 ppl and I couldn't have been happier for $30 a head everyone was more than well fed and satisfied. I would drive a long way for their prawn pancakes and prawn dumplings. This place is an absolute favourite of mine and will be regularly back. What are you waiting for? go now !
Allison Holden
Had (pork) bun salad bowl with spring rolls and it was fresh but pretty bland. The 4 spring rolls were tiny and had so little filling I couldn't tell if there was any at all. My husband had satay chicken with rice, which he liked. The prices have gone up noticeably since the new paint job and décor, with the mini pancakes now $15, a big hike. We were the only people in the restaurant on a Thursday night...have people voted with their feet or was this just a fluke? I am undecided.

I always come here for vietnamese food, i think it is one of the best places on victoria street. My faves are the beef pho and the sugar cane prawn vermicelli wraps. Delicious!
Sandeep
Very good Vietnamese restaurant with good serving sizes. The combination fried rice is full of flavour. Chili lemongrass chicken is one of their specialities and didn't disappoint. The salt and pepper squid was excellent! <br/>I recommend trying the lychee flavoured beer too, it goes well with the food. <br/>No complaints, will be back again.
Eat Like Ushi
I haven't actually eaten at Thanh Nga Nine before. Even after living in Abbotsford on & off for 4 years I've walked past countless times but never inside. Other than Vietnam, before Pho Phu Quoc in Canberra (. Recently Victoria Street had their annual lunar new year street festival and amongst the typical fare of bo la lot and the rice square dish with fried eggs was a little gem - spit-roasted pork with salad served on a roti. This was exceptional from the juicy flavoursome pork, the crunchy contrast of vegetable textures, the tart and salty sauce and the warm chewy roti.
My Babes And I
My babes and I were driving with her mum and her sister towards IKEA in Richmond on Friday night when we started getting hungry. We initially wanted to go to a hotpot restaurant on Victoria Street but were turned away as they were fully booked. After driving down Victoria Street towards the city, my babes spotted a restaurant that she hasn't been to since before she met me called Thanh Nga Nine.<br/>The interior design of the restaurant reminds me more of a Japanese restaurant than a Vietnamese one especially the large number 9 with another 9 in Kanji (Japanese numeral) inside it. Red and black accessories highlight the restaurant throughout from the hung paintings, bowls and cups to the mismatched red and black chopsticks.<br/>My babes mentioned that they're known for their mini-Vietnamese pancakes so I ordered a version I've never had before called Banh Khot Vung Tau. I also ordered a Mixed Seafood Chilli & Lemongrass Stir Fry (Xao Xa Ot Do Bien) for my main, Coconut Cake (Banh Tai Yen) for dessert and a 333 Beer (Bia) for my drink. My babes ordered a Mud Fish Noodle Soup With Prawns, Pork Belly And Fish (Bun Mam Soc Trang) for her main. Her sister and mum ordered a few vegetarian dishes that I didn't try except for the Deep Fried Salt & Pepper Tofu from the specials menu.<br/>My beer was served within five minutes and my Banh Khot Vung Tau was served a few minutes afterwards. The mini-Vietnamese bowl shaped pancakes with a crispy base had a small prawn cooked in the centre which was topped with mung bean paste. I spooned some coconut milk and chilli fish sauce, which were provided, into the Banh Khot before taking my first bite. The crispy base crunched releasing the sweet coconut milk which counteracted the spicy chilli in the salty fish sauce. I loved the flavour combination, as I found it more sweet than spicy or salty, and I'd definitely return to have more of it!<br/>My babes Mud Fish Noodle Soup, which is veges, vermicelli noodles, prawn, pork belly and fish cooked in a broth made with a pungent fermented fish paste, came 10 minutes later. Personally, I don't like anything fermented as it doesn't agree with my palate but my babes loves it! She didn't feel like eating the pork belly or fish so she gave it to me to eat, which I didn't mind having but for some reason, I can't stomach the broth on its own.<br/>Another 10 minutes after that came the Deep Fried Salt & Pepper Tofu, which resembled little battered balls sitting atop a bed of lettuce, bean sprouts and diced capsicums then topped with fried sesame seeds. It was fresh from the fryer as it was too hot to bite into at first but once you did, it was quite delicious as the tofu had a silky texture beneath the crispy coating. My babes thought that it lacked salt where as I thought it lacked pepper. In any case, even though it wasn't perfect, I still found it enjoyable and I ended up finishing it as everyone else was full at that time.<br/>Lastly came the Coconut Cake served with coconut milk and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which I last had at the Footscray Lunar Festival where it was called a Birds Nest Cake. Whatever it's called, the rice flour and sugar batter, which is fried into discs with a raised centre and thin crispy edges, has to be one of my favourite Viet desserts. Dipping the Banh Tai Yen into the coconut milk gives an extra dimension of flavour, which I loved, and the vanilla ice cream brought it to the perfect sweetness for me. My babes could only have one portion before it got too sweet for her so I gladly finished the rest of it.<br/>I had a great time for my first visit to Thanh Nga Nine. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and its a great location. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in trying a Banh Khot for the first time and I definitely want to return to try more of their vast menu.

Delicious Pho! His mum makes the broth a day in advance & uses papaya! Sublime! Their rice paper rolls are huge & the staff is super helpful & friendly.

Came here on Valentine's Day, starving and in search of a good meal but was deceived by the appearance. From the exterior, my boyfriend approved of my choice looking around at the design of the place. However we were very disappointed with the food. For the price, the servings were a bit small and we were waiting for a very long time. But the main problem was with my noodle soup. Advertised as Tom yum soup, it came out tasting nothing at all like it. We thought maybe we got the wrong dish so we asked again but instead learnt that our "Tom yum" soup was flavoured with everything but Tom yum. The waitress was very understanding and apologetic which made us feel a little better, but overall disappointed with the food. Maybe it was because they were struggling as it was Valentine's Day but we probably won't be going in to try the food again.
Tiffany
Firstly, the customer service was horrible - essentially non existent. You had to ask for both tea and cutlery or you got none at all. Secondly, after ordering three dishes, we waited for an hour for the third dish to come. We ended up leaving as it never came. They didn't even come and take our dirty dishes away in that hour we were waiting for it. Even the table next to us had to wait a good half hour for any food to turn up at all.
Melbsgaleater
Such an authentic Vietnamese restaurant! Firstly the menu is extremely extensive so if you're unsure on what to get then definitely recommend the pancake! It is massive, delicious and like nothing I've seen at other Vietnamese restaurants. The vegetable rice paper rolls could have been more flavoursome (better fillings maybe) as I mostly just tasted lettuce and mint. Also if you're going to get noodle soup then just stick with pho (can never go wrong with pho) as we got the rice noodle soup which wasn't as good. Iced coffee was a little too sweet and intense for me. But overall cannot complain about our experience here
Rick Bob
Had Vietnamese pancakes for the first time here and have to say was impressed. Heard great reviews about this place and can see why they're a Vic St staple. Customer service isn't their strong suit but who cares when the food is this good!
SusieK
I go here often for the fast service and variety of food during my lunch break. Their Vietnamese pancake is ok, i like their duck noodle soup. A little on the squishy side in terms of seating.
Lexie
Fantastic staff, so on the ball.<br/>The mini pancakes are delish.<br/>The steamed prawn dumplings are little mouthfuls of heaven.<br/>The noodle soups warm the soul.<br/>Vietnamese food done perfectly.
Nelly
The waiter was really friendly which is unusual for a cheap place on this strip of restaurants.<br/><br/>The Pho the best I have tasted in a while, the Vietnamese ice coffee yummy but had better. The vermicelli beef salad could have had more sourness, but otherwise very nice. Worthwhile going to for sure.

When I walk into a Victoria Pde Vietnamese restaurant, I have extremely high expectations of authenticity and great flavour. This place did not disappoint.<br/><br/>Service quite friendly too.

Found the best Vietnamese on Victoria Street finally. It's traditional but also contemporary. Those Vietnamese Omelette with a mountain of freshness. They have a Chicken salad Pho. Sounds weird but it's sooooo good. There salads are off the chain too. Staff are awesome and really helpful, they let you know how to eat different things when you're ordering something new. And... try the Kumquat drink. Was recommended. I'm hooked.
Mrs Mark
The worst Vietnamese restaurant I have ever been to.  Poor and condescending service.  The vegetarian omelette was tasteless and the beef with black bean sauce was drowning in oil.  Never again.
Weewongfu
Not to my palette only for reasons that I have food poisoning immediately when I got home...not to mention the hours spent on the toilet (very painful experience..like child birth!) Not sure if this place is suitable for asian families such as myself and the wongs, I do however must say...AMAZING staff with fabulous service!

Best Vietnamese on Victoria street. All their dishes come with lots of fresh herbs and veggies. Rice Paper Rolls are very good - Freshly made with good ingredients. The accompanying sauce has pickled vegetables and chili in it. The Wonton soup comes with pork and homemade wontons - as well as some fried Wonton skins which is a nice touch! The fine Vermicelli Square Special is huge and the beef wrapped in betel leaves is very tasty. Also try the rice in hotpot. Looking forward to trying the desserts - always to full though!!

If you're looking for some good, authentic Vietnamese then look no further. We come here regularly and bookings are generally not required. The restaurant is quite spacious and seats many people. It even has a second floor with lots of tables. The owner is always so friendly and welcoming and happy to chat away with is. All the dishes we order are generally of high quality and some of our favourite dishes to order are the quail, mini pancakes, crispy pancakes, the Thanh Nga king prawn and pork coleslaw, bo bia and their chef's special mudfish soup noodles. All dishes are full of flavour and cooked really well with authentic flavours. There are traditional dishes here that are not always available at other Vietnamese restaurants and it's obvious that it's a family run business as you can see the owner's parents happily working away there too. Highly recommend if you're craving for some good Viet food!

I used to come to this restaurant religiously for the Traditional Chicken Salad Pho. It was the best pho I have ever had and recommended it to all my friends who also attend. It is clear the restaurant has changed owners and the quality of the meat has changed. My last 2 meals have been awful and inedible. The chicken is revolting. I am so saddened to say that I don't think I can come back after finding this glorious gem.

Very nice clean restaurants, unlike some others around that would use the same cloth to wipe their floors and the tables, this place with its modern Deco, is well maintained. Service is fantastic with a very accomodating host. Coconut cakes with the coconut sauce, Fried Flounder is one of my favourites. Had the steamed Barra tonight was satisfyingly flavoursome.

There isn't much of a muchness between local Vietnamese restaurants walking down Victoria street after being away for several years. Many modern looking Vietnamese restaurants have popped up all trying to emulate the success of Tho Tho. Picking a good restaurant was usually a case of walking past to see if they are busy or if people were all eating a certain dish which are usually the indicators to a good place. On this day, we arrived before the lunch crowd so had to take a stab.<br/><br/>My wife wanted the Steamed Rice Paper Rolls (Banh Cuon) and we also ordered a serve of Prawn Spring rolls and the Drop noodles with Crab. The spring roll filling was pretty standard and there wasn't much of it. The accompanying vegetables were not fresh, especially the mint leaves which were wilted and lifeless.<br/><br/>The Banh Cuon was too chewy and but was the better dish of the three. The Drop Noodles came in a heavily corn flour thickened broth, lacked crab flavour and had a small amount of broken frozen crab meat. There were several pieces of carrot and two large chunks of fried tofu. I could not go beyond two spoonfuls. I did not complain as I wouldn't be going back. <br/><br/>The manager seems like a good bloke who was friendly and hospitable but shame about the food on offer on this day.

One of the worst restaurant I have been to!<br/><br/>We ordered a Black pepper beef rice and and black bean chicken with vegetables.<br/>Both beef and chicken was bad, and the vegetables one the chicken dish was uncooked.<br/><br/>I told two potential customers who were at the door about the bad meats when we left the restaurant.<br/><br/>Terrible food!

Their "banh khot" is properly the best in Melbourne. If you haven't tried this dish, give it a go cause it's their speciality. Other dishes are pretty much above average but not too special either. One negative point is that management often yells at/criticize the staff in front of diners, which I think is a little bit rude.

My favourite place to eat good asian food. Always feel welcomed when i visit. my favourite is the banh xeo. So crispy and delicious, its a must try.

Great service and the aromas that fills the restaurant. Can not argue they serve the best Vietnamese food in melb!! Suggestion- try their mini pancakes!!!

I have been to many vietnamese restaurant in Victoria street over the years growing up and i must say thanh nga is the best i've been to by far. This restaurant is alot lay back then other restaurants in the area and the staff are super attentive and friendly. I must say that it's a rare in vic street where the owner of the resturant speaks perfect english. Last but not least the authentic food menu will be hard for other vietnamese restaurants there for years to come! Thank you!
Khanh Cam
This place serves nice food but if you are Vietnamese , be aware of bossy waitress.. i have been here 3 times ( by myself or with friends), the waitress's attitude is really irritated.
MikhaelfBlue
The pho was just ok. The broth could have used more flavour, and there was not enough meat in each dish.

Thanh Nga is probably one of the most typical Vietnamese restaurants you will find in Richmond, with its interior reminiscent of those in Vietnam. There are the novelty special menu signs that flash in multiple colours to the tank filled with inedible fish. One of this restaurant's specialty is Banh Khot, one of the diverse rice flour based dishes from Vietnam. This isn't necessarily a bad dish, but be prepared for something quite odd. The crunch of the cakes in your mouth will be complemented by the saltiness of the prawn, the sweet and sour nuoc cham and then the bewildering sweetness of the green bean paste and coconut cream. The first taste of this will most likely make you pause as you decide whether it is something absolutely amazing or something you won't ever try again. Unfortunately, the bewilderment with the first dish probably won't last onto the next dish; a prawn and pork goi. It is another run of the mill goi, with the addition of a prawn crackers instead of the tradition
Minda Barley
Weird combination it sounds but in the mouth we get salty, sweet, crispy, creamy and soft altogether which in its own way works.

Everything turned out quickly and was pretty outstanding. Generous portions, fresh san choy bao (although a little ‘wet’ for my taste), perfectly crispy-on-the-outside-tender-on-the-inside roast duck, rich-flavoured pork casserole.. Everything was good. Until the next day when...

I really loved the mini pancakes and my beef pho. I'd never eaten or seen those type of pancakes before, rice flour, with prawn and coconut and chilli sauce, but I was so glad I ordered them as they were delicious. I would return here just for this dish alone. The pho was really nice too, great flavour.

Mini Pancakes. Recommended dish! Not available at many places

Surprisingly amazing!. Me and partner went by Richmond the other day and we were heading towards another restaurant that we always go to, but then my partner pointed out that they have special lunch for $8 which would be perfect for our quick bite. <br/><br/>After seeing the menus, we decided to just go with normal menu anyway because the menu is extremely wide range. The restaurant was very quiet, it was just us and another table so I wasnt expecting much.<br/>I ordered vermicelli with pork ($10) and my partner ordered broken rice combination (pork and shredded pork $9.50) and also rare beef salad ($14)<br/><br/>Rare beef salad, first glance I wasnt so sure if it worth the price. Comparing to another restaurant we always go to, seems to given more meat. But anyhow, it turned out very very nice. Extremely fresh with some sort of shredded Daikon or papaya underneath. My noodle was huge! Like 1 and a half from let places. And my partner broken rice was extremely huge. He was very very impressed lol. And they all tasted amazing, my partner said it's the best he ever had in Melbourne. I feel like the sauce is slightly on a sweet side but it doesn't bother me. <br/><br/>The place is very very clean, staffs were nice and we had a great lunch. Will be going back especially for broken rice.

Outrageous price - garlic (chinese) broccoli. Recently ate at this restaurant and were blown away by the outrageous price of the garlic broccoli ($14.00!!!!!!). There was about half a bunch of Asian style broccoli served in a sauce that did not even have fresh garlic. You can pick up a whole bunch of this type of broccoli at major supermarkets for $2.00!!!!! <br/>Salt and Pepper Fish was also part of the meal. This was served as fried fish fillets (like crumbed fish) and did not have any particular flavour (apart from the fish) - disappointing.<br/>All the entrees we had were delicious.<br/>M&M
Anita
Not authentic and couldn't care less about the customer!. Had dinner here after reading the reviews and was extremely disappointed. We ordered com tam, hu tieu mi tom thit and banh xeo. The com tam was ok but the hu tieu mi was like eating chicken stock with noodles, instead of thin slices of pork it had chunks of dry pork, broccoli and carrots, none of which is in the actual dish or the photo of the dish. Most disappointing of all was the banh xeo, instead of being crispy it was thick and looked like circles of thick pancake again nothing like the photo. When I asked the owner why the dishes did not taste authentic or look anything like the photos he simply said this is how my mother makes them. He went on to say she made these dishes and if I wanted to I could speak to her. I did not eat anything as it really was not what I ordered from taste to look but the owner did not care and asked me to pay for dinner, even though he looked at our table and saw all the dishes left untouched! Did not even apologise! I would definately not recommend this place to anyone, there are so many good restaurants on victoria st who serve authentic vietnamese food and actualky care whether or not their custoners can eat their food. Wouldnt even give it 1 star.

Satisfying meal everytime. A regular here. Service is on point.. But don't expect a smile. Food is delicious.. Especially the Claypots and the phos. The flounder is <br/>tasty. Don't order the lemon chicken.. It's no good. All in all.. A great spot to dine on Vic Street.
Jelly
A bit disappointed. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it just wasn't up to par with some of the other places along Victoria Street. The Ban Xeo was super oily and tasted like it had been fully shallow fried in oil. Beef satay was tasty but the beef was very rare on the inside. The rice dish was also very oily and bland. I think it all depends on what you order here. Some of the other dishes on the menu look really nice so perhaps the standard is not all bad but I won't be ordering the Ban Xeo again.
Bernardo
Cheap and anything you pick is good. I have eaten here no less than 10 times. I love it.
Lellett
Heard about it from a friend. Best beef special soup I have had in Melbourne! Friendly staff and casual atmosphere. Can't wait to go back and introduce more people to this place!
J
The wait staff here are pretty friendly. The prawn spring rolls are super yumtastic but unfortunately, the pho was not a pass - it was a bit tasteless, (I had a hankering for pho and so badly wanted it to be good!) and the beef slices were thin and a bit old and fatty. I also found 2 little bugs in mine. However I have also tried the salt and pepper squid here on another occasion and it was yumtastic too. The ambience is warm with Chinese and Vietnamese decor but don't sit at the 2 tables near the door in winter as it's super cold bad breezy.
Liz
This is my favourite Vietnamese restaurant. They have best vegetarian pho I've ever eaten and the mini vegetarian pancakes are sublime!
Bluecat
Hit and Misses. I love some of the dishes here. The pancakes with prawn and sweet potato, where you scoop the coconut sauce over it. Loved it. But when it comes to the traditional pho ( beef noodle soup ) they are okay, not great. I prefer my Pho Bo with thinly sliced fresh beef not some cut beef processed sausage on my noodles. The rice paper rolls are done quite nicely. Another time i order the grilled pork with vermi noodles and its just not as good as the more authentic eateries along victoria street. <br/>Some of the traditional dishes had been altered to cater for western tastebuds.
P
This place is terrific - and am a sucker for the traditional chicken pho!
V2true
Have to try the mini pancakes!!!!
Shirley_luong83
Great vietnamese food. Have been going here since 2009 and still love this restaurant! Roger don't complain about sitting, this is not a 5star restaurant. It's cheap Asian food, so please get off your high horse. People like you think the world has to bend down backwards for you...cheap skate! Go eat at a 5star and stop your whinging.<br/>Anyway, I highly recommend this place and you must try the vietnamese mini pancakes! Delicious.
Manmar
Delicious Vietnamese!!. Victoria street is always hit & miss, but having been to Vietnam, while not experts, we know good food Vietnamese food when we have it. They serve dishes that are traditional in Vietnam, and not served in other restaurants. The owner walks around & engages with his customers, and when he found out we had been to Vientam, shared his experiences with us. The food was exceptional, varied choices and was fresh & beautifully presented. Staff were attentive & friendly. We had spring rolls, Vietnamese mini pancakes (don't be put off, ) and clay pOt pork, which we haven't seen anywhere else outside Vietnam (it was superb). Highly recommended, we will be back, probably next week!!'

Truly great vietnamese food. I enjoy all the food here, its a place anthony bourdain would equally enjoy. the food shares that romantic home-style cooking and the atmosphere is cozy.<br/><br/>my main attraction is the great dishes and the wonderful coconut cake with soy milk drink. <br/><br/>I will repeat my visits when I feel the need for vietnamese

Great food. We ate here a few days ago (Christmas Day) with a couple of friends and had a truly excellent, genuine, Vietnemese meal. The staff were very helpful and explained the 6 entree dishes we shared. All were delicious. We only had one main meal to share as the 6 entrees were plentiful. We will return here soon and try some more main meals as, looking around at what others had, they all looked delicious and enticing. As with most Asian meals it was a bit salty for me but I drank plenty of tea while eating as well as a light beer. The cost of just under $80 for the 4 of us was also excellent value. I highly reccomend this place to all readers.
Exocush
Deeelicious. I've been to loads of Vietnamese places in Victoria St but none as authentic and delicious as this. Try the salt & pepper eggplant for a delicious start and definitely the mini pancakes. YUUUUUM

Amazing Vietnamese Food. I've had a lot of vietnamese in the past and never had such a traditional meal before, we sat down and ask the waiter what's good here, and that was the best thing we did. <br/>He said "if your game let me take care of it for you" <br/>Dishes started coming that just blew us away, so good!!!!<br/>The service was fantastic.<br/><br/>Keep up the good work Thanh Nga 9.
Benny
"WOW" this place is amazing, I love the mini pancakes, and the pho is really good too. Coming back to try other dishes.
Amanda
The best "PHO" down Vic st.
Deborah Smith
Lemongrass and Chilli Chicken rocks!
Tony Chen
Good as any. I'm not viet, so it's hard for me to judge the different viet places on richmond.. this one does the job fine, but so does many others in the area.
Sue B
I love this place and eaten here many time, the food is traditional as if I was in Vietnam. My advice is the speak to Treat (the owner), I just tell him to bring food till I say stop and I'm sure he will do the same for anyone who don't know what to order. <br/><br/>What are people talking about "grumpy old man"????? I alway get great service from him, he might be old but certainly not grumpy. If service is what you want then Victoria St is not for you.
Sugar Plum
Pancakes were enjoyable and interesting but the 'hotpot' was disappointing and overpriced. No sizzle, the pot was just used as a serving dish for a meal that was put together some time beforehand by the taste. Service was alright; the elderly man who served us was friendly; maybe try something different next time.
Obsessedwithfood
Not authentic Vietnamese food. <br/><br/>Ordered: bun bo hue (chilli beef noodle soup), ban rieu (crab noodle soup), Vietnamese coleslAw and spring rolls.<br/><br/>The noodles smelt strongly of shrimp paste. Was flavourless - the only thing we could taste was the shrimp paste. It was no where near close to the authentic Vietnamese dish. <br/><br/>ColeslAw salad hasn't been washed, could see dirt. Prawns hadn't been cleaned was of a foul smell. <br/><br/>Spring rolls were half froZen.<br/><br/>Everything was untouched - manager knew we were unhappy and then told is off for complaining, insisting that the soup bases are meant taste strongly of shrimp paste.<br/><br/>I am from Vietnamese background and I have never in my whole entire life eaten anything close to what they are saying is "authentic"<br/><br/>They didn't offer anything else to us even though dishes were untouched - charged full price.<br/><br/>Poor customer service and horrible food. Would not recommend to anyone.
James
Good with friends.. This used to be our spot for Pho in Richmond even when the old owners were around. Previously it was a little run down small family business with great tasting soups. The presentation of the place has improved many folds and it's a lot more friendly to none Vietnamese/Chinese people in terms of atmosphere and menu. The menus has a full range of varying foods.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, the Pho soups that we used to come here for has changed in taste a little and is no longer a standout. We have eaten here for a couple of years, but have found another Pho place closeby with better soups but with less presentation. This is why in well presented restaurants there are more caucasians, and there are those dingy looking restaurants that are packed out with Asians who go for the food (and maybe price?).

On cloud Nine. This place will take you to cloud nine, really love this restaurant. The most traditional menu not like some of the other down Victoria st. The food is amazing, clean and service was fantasic. You must give the mini pancakes ago.
Clare
Wow, this place has the best vietnamese vego dishes in Richmond. I had vegie soups at other restaurants but it always been chicken stock and told it was vedie stock. We had the vegie pho and chilli lemongrass noodle soup. OMG, will spead the word.
Tim
Great food, great service. Love love love mini pancakes. I will tell all my friends about this place. Keep up the good work.
Mei
I just skimmed through most ppls reviews. Its quite mixed. To those who dont like the place thats ur problem. Thats my cousins restaurant ur talking about there. And he gives it he's best everyday all day. The place opens at 9:30am til 11pm. Everyone works their heart out. The food gets out as soon as humanly possible considering there's only five people out back. Cooking for a full house of 100ppl. You ever tried it?
Rcs
First and last time. Food was ordinary and pricy and nowhere near enough. $50 for 2 ppl on Victoria st should mean plenty of food, but not here. . Served by a grumpy old man and other staff were equally rude except one.
Lisa L
My fav Vietnamese restaurant...love the pho ga & fried ice cream. Service is always great, nice vibe.
Abe
Great food. Love them rice pancakes! we have come back several times. great salad too.
Friendly Ghost
Sullen service. Been here a few times and food and service have been fine up to this recent visit. Service was smile-less and sullen. Food was ok, not fantastic but not bad. Thumbs down for service, won't be returning again. There are plenty of other options on Victoria Street.
Michael Gazzo
The service is second to none.. It's run by a family who have all greeted us. Even the mother and father came to our table to say hi and recommend dishes.. I now eat there a lot. The mini pancakes are amazing.. The beef pho was a bit bland tho..
Christopher Alex Pavlidis Garkinis
YUM. A Quiet Gem in the middle of Victoria st - Their Tomato rice with Roast Chicken is Amazing! Probably the most flavorsome Tomato rice in Melbourne! Love the ginger sauce they give you to put on top mmmm. Their Broken rice is the usual - quite nice. Their Prawn Dumplings were soft and had lots of Seafood flavour, and I really want to try their Stewed beef, Mudfish Soup and Homemade Pork Stew. Owner, although very loud & animated, is always friendly too. :-) Well done!
Nada
Viet mini pancakes.. This is one of the regularly packed venues in little Saigon. <br/>I recommend the mini pancakes - while these are available elsewhere, this is the only place you get it with fish sauce AND cream.<br/>The only negative is the lack of readily available surviettes.
Alexander Yap
Crunchy & tasty. I like the crunchy fried noodles that accompany the diced beef. They give a good mix of texture to the beef, that itself is already tasty with lemongrass flavour. Tomato rice is also done well. The only complaint is that the serving is a bit too small for the price.
Good Food Chaser
Enjoyed the food greatly!. This place is always busy whenever we pass by the area. It is always a good sign - when food moves faster, it means food is fresher. I've been here several times with a different group of mates each time. And we all liked the food, the freshness, the taste and the variety on offer. I may not be an expert on Vietnamese food, but what they offer seem to me like authentic Vietnamese food. I will keep on coming back.
Donnaj
Love it!!. Thanh Nga Nine would have to be my favourite Vietnamese restaurants! The food is great and as someone who frequents the establishment somewhat regularly I am always made to feel special and very welcome. I wouldn't bother going elsewhere.

There's been mix reviews bout this place but me and my 11 mate gave it a go. The place was crazy, full house downstairs and a karaoke function upstairs (my next party, he he he)<br/>We didn't know what to order so we ask one of the staff to just bring us some entree and mains enough for everyone, OMG!!!! that was the best thing we did, the food was amazing, so so so fresh and service? Not an issue, it was great. All the vegies were fresh and clean. <br/>We later found out our waiter was the owner. Will be back next week with my family. My new fav restaurant.
Sara Veradita
Absolutely beautiful food. Staff are friendly and although it was busy, it was worth the wait! Mini pancakes and rice paper rolls are a must- will be recommending this place to many..
Lisa Clark
One of the best restaurant on vic street. Will be coming back. LOVE the mini pancakes, service was great and staff very friendly.
WiseMez
Their crispy pancakes are one of the best things you can put in your mouth. Must not be missed!<br/>Lovely staff, always very friendly and welcoming.
Medium Rare Steak
Large bookings not Recommended. Dishes didn't come out in order. Entrees came out half way. Salad came out first? Hot pot came out with rice, instead of vermicelli.. like wat the?! The steam fish dish that came out was the smallest "fish to share" I've ever seen! The worst of all-->The portable gas stove that came out leaked gas and caught on fire!! Not a safe place to eat, due to unsafe equipment!! As there were no bottles of water around (even though we had many times requested for them) We unfortunately had to waste a good half a bottle BYO red wine to put the fire out. The waiter had "replaced" our gas stove with a new one and had himself witnessed a second fire-incident. What are the chances?!!!<br/>The owner didn't even come to apologise or say anything. A BIG disappointment there, especially given that we had a group booking of 40+ ppl.<br/>Overall, if eating out by yourself, food vs price is just ok.<br/>However a Group/Function is NOT recommended, as the banquet is way over priced with the small "shared" dishes, was not enough to go around.<br/>I believe the restaurant lacks experience with large groups/functions, given that the dishes had came out at random, for all 5 of our tables.<br/>I would not go here again for my next event and would not recommend you to host one here either!

Stuffed mushroom and roast quill were pretty good.

Great Spot for Vegos on Victoria St. Happy to find another Victoria St restaurant with a good range of vegetarian dining options. My husband and I (both vegos) ate here on a freezing cold Melbourne evening and it was great to have the choice of 'Vegetarian Pho' on the menu. Also ate the mini veg pancakes which although a bit oily were pretty good. However, the highlight of the meal for me was definitely the dessert, loved the Sweet Tofu balls. There were 6 little discs which had the texture of creme caramel. They came with a sweet toffee/syrup and ice-cream, yum! We'll be back.
Kanku9
Not impressed with service. I would rate the food OK compared to other restaurants along Victoria St, but I am most unimpressed with the service. It is comical to watch the chief waitress/owner smiling to the customers one minute and sreaming to the kitchen staff the next. The cashier/son treats customers like numbers, throwing menu on the table with very limited words. I tried a crab soup dish "bun cua Soc Trang", and I was really offended with the serve. In the big bowl of noodle, there was 1 small kind-of-crab-pork meat ball, 1 slice of fish cake, 1 slice of pork meat, 1 small cube of pork blood. I complained to the staff, who replied that's was what it was. With $9.50 I can find better food, better service anywhere along Victoria St !
Linda_q
RUDE SERVICE! Food is just ok, not that great either. The only thing that's worth trying is their mini pancakes.
Candice
Food here is quite cheap & very tasty. Have not had much Vietnamese food before but this was great. Went with a group of 10 and everyone was happy with their food. Service can be a little slow but this is a very busy place so is expected. Will be returning.
Cookiemonsta
The rice pancakes and the chicken coleslaw were out of this world. The dumplings and spring rolls were great. The chicken chilli lemongrass was delicious but VERY spicy, they don't muck about when it comes to chillies! The only disappointment of the evening came from the mud fish soup. Bland boring and disappointing. But with so many other great things on the menu we will just give that one a miss next time!
Irene
The food is not good. N they are so RUDE. Specially with the payment, they alway charge extra money. Pls check properly
Brad Clay
Great food and drinks. service was a little slow and when we ordered something which the table next to us ordered it was way smaller. so i felt a little ripped there. But all in all it was very good and I'd definitely go back
Sirlunchalot
Pho is the go.. What a suprise for me to read so many conflicting reviews on this place especially regarding service. After eating here for around the 10th time this year i finally took the time to read the name so i could add my 2 cents on here. I find the service very swift the prices super cheap abd the food excellent. I have been searching for a good pho restaurant at a resonable price for years and this is the best i have found so far. Condiments play a big part and here are always super fresh and the chilli sauces etc spot on. Theres alot of choices on Victoria st but i am drawn here everytime now. recommend!!
Eleanor
I went about a year ago. Huge range of dishes. Good standard Vietnamese, plus many more interesting dishes as well. Well priced and the place was clean. Good eats :)

Best Vietnamese on victoria street
Julius D'urden
Great Viet pancake, unprofessional service. The poor service was the highlight. Our meal took over an hour to arrive and we had to ask repeatedly for our order which had been forgotten despite management assurances. Their staff dress casually as if they're at home and it's hard to tell who works there and who doesn't and add that with the constant screaming of orders, the place really lost it's charm. <br/><br/>Food was hit and miss. The Vietnamese pancake and the hot pot fish tasted incredibly good and were full of flavor. However fried chicken rib was horrible and tasted off.<br/><br/>More bad than good so I'm voting with my feet next time I'm in Richmond.
Lucindahill
Honestly terrible! Feel ashamed I bought people here!! Food and service atrocious!
GT
My favourite!. If you are after delicious food, decent prices, and huge variety (inc. for vegos), this is the best Vietnamese on Victoria St. I've been here at least 15 times and have never been disappointed (nor my guests). I recommend the house specials - mini pancakes, iced tea with cumquats, etc - and the salt&pepper eggplant is entirely drool-worthy! Go for the stir-fried dishes rather than the sizzling ones, and be brave - try something new. It's an excellent place for that. It's popular and so a little noisy, but the service is pretty good considering. It ain't haute cuisine but you'll always get a great meal.
MK
Food was average with horrible attitude - Would not come back!!!!. We had a group went out for Saturday night dinner - service was slow and sloppy. We ordered a few entrees and a few traditional Vietnamese dishes - Fish casserole, vegetables with garlic & sweet & sour soup with prawns... the entrees were good. The fish casserole came out with one tiny piece of fish hidden under a mountain of pork... we asked the waiter about the dish & he said that he can call the manager to talk to us... the manager came almost an hour later and told us that how the dish is made with a very rude tone to her voice ... as if that we were stupid!!! We told her that we ordered a fish dish so we expected fish and if there's pork in there we are expected to be told... she then said that she doesn't have to explain every ingredient in the dish - yes we do if that ingredient make up more than half of the dish... what if I had medical or religious reasons with pork so it is their responsibility to make it clear that pork is made up more than half of the dish... she demissed the remark and walked away... We will never come back as they are rude and prepare to have a shouting match with a customer in the middle of a crowded restaurant... who would run a restaurant like that???

This is by far the WORST Vietnamese restaurant I have been too. The price is also more expensive than the more authentic Viet restaurant. Will never eat here again. We ordered PHO, Fried rice and Honey Chicken. Service was poor (I never waited for such a long time for a PHO to be served) and when it finally got to the table the PHO and RICE were COLD. The chicken rubbery. Very bad experience. Try the smaller Vietnamese eatery on Victoria Street instead like Chu pho - that place never faile. my taste bud

A warm haven on a cold night Great food the chef's special of duck with mushrooms was the best of the night but roast pork with blackbeans and vegetables was sizzling and flavoursome. Great atmosphere and service. The starter pancakes were new for us but not too sure if we would have them again . Overall excellent .

Good food. First visit we had the papaya salad, omelet, beef stew with Vietnamese roll, salt and pepper squid :) Yums! We are pleasantly surprised with the food.<br/><br/>Went back the very next day just in case - had the pancake, beef noodle soup and broken rice. Once again, Yums! Third visit was a day later :) cant seem to stay away from this place.
Pjh.
Banh xeo!. Always coming here for the vietnamese pancakes.
Gazzler
Bad Pho! 5/10. The place is nice enough, and the service is good but, wow, the Pho is bad! The cuts of chicken were tough and fatty, the soup a little flavourless and worst of all, packed with garlic. If you do go, don't eat the Pho. Oh, and the springrolls were still half frozen! Not recommended.
Ruwan
Good vegetarian selection. This restaurant is clean, efficient and has a good vegetarian selection.<br/><br/>Love the spring rolls.

Top feed. No mucking about here. All go. Busy as.<br/>Innovative food- mini pancakes are a stand out as is the "King salad"<br/><br/>des

Best Mini Pancakes & Banh Xeo. Food-8/10, Ambience-3/5, Service-2.5/5. TOTAL = 13.5.
The Hungry Badger
Tasty Squid!. Great place to drop in for dinner after a movie. The King Prawn rice paper rolls we had for an entree were generous portions and tightly packed with flavour. But the Salt & Pepper Squid Arms and Sizzling Satay Prawns were the highlight - delicious. There wasn't much left on the plate by the time we were done. Being a very busy place the service was a bit sporadic and distracted but the food was definitely worth this minor hassle.

One of the good 'uns. Victoria Street is a cornucopia of good Vietnamese cuisine. If you can't find a decent, cheap meal here there you simply aren't looking very hard!<br/><br/>Most the restaurants share common dishes, it's the ones who offer something a little different that stand out. Thanh Nga Nine is one of these places. A few old family recipes have been added to the menu to add a little uniqueness to the menu. <br/><br/>Do not miss the little pancake ... things! I can not explain it any more than that; however, when you get there you'll know what I'm talking about and so will your waiter. It's a specialty of this restaurant. Little crispy cups of delight. <br/><br/>And despite the bad press tofu gets, DO NOT pass up on the tofu balls for desert. Like little balls of creme caramel exploding in your mouth. Light, sweet and very more-rish! <br/><br/>I'll be back!

Good and bad. This was OK, but no more than that. We went in on Sunday lunchtime, tempted by the "$8 lunch special" banner out the front.<br/><br/>First we were told that the lunch special wasn't on, then that it was. (Maybe I look litigious.) We ordered a dish each, and an entrée.<br/><br/>The entrée was terrific - rice paper rolls (Chinese sausage with egg and peanuts, with soy sauce and chili dipping sauce). Really really nice, chili was a thick sauce trailed through the soy sauce, well presented, very tasty.<br/><br/>I had hot chilli beef with steamed rice - nice enough, but very dry, and got cold very quickly (and not all that hhot chilli-wise, TBH). Cha had satay chicken skewers which she said was very nice, but arrived about 15 minutes after mine, and that was after we'd reminded someone that we'd ordered.<br/><br/>So a good entrée and one mains, but service was lacking, as was organisation.<br/><br/>Not hurrying back.
