Review Jamu - Richmond

Terence Soet
Absolutely fantastic place… I’m not one for any type of fusion food, but Jamu is one of the only place that does it well. Flavors and textures are balanced and very well created. They’ve kept a great south East Asian (Malaysian) flavor profile while modernizing it and adding a mixture of western cooking. Would highly recommend the feed me menu. Staff are absolutely helpful and friendly, and the chefs in the kitchen are brilliant. Highly recommend this place.

I enjoyed JAMU. We went on a Sunday afternoon and were the only ones there which suited me because they kept our drinks full the entire seating and we could be as loud as we wanted without annoying others! The food pretty good, portion sizes were great and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a bit of a shame however, as there was a lot of food that wasn’t eaten, the pulled pork buns, which is just a lot of food wastage! The staff were all quite nice and attentive. I could imagine that JAMU would be a lot of fun on a Sunday afternoon as a ‘pres’ venue. I would definitely consider going back, maybe on a day with a few more people in the venue just to see what it is like.

Surprising flavour profile with great asian tweaks. The octopus is excellent and mango ceviche is refreshing. Chicken ribs is homely in a great way. Donut martini is yummy. Update: we came back and love it even more! The cheeseburger springroll is a bite of surprise yet familiar flavour. Chicken satay is juicy with the right amount of char. The noodle is silky and incredibly homely! The beef is meltingly soft and perfectly punctuated with charred green. The sambal octopus is soft and punchy at the same time. Pandan cocktail is tasty! The upcoming menu is superbly refreshing! Update: the new menu is amazing! Beef tartare is exciting with great flavours!

Such a great dining experience at Jamu with my hubby! It's a hidden gem in Richmond, food was fantastic, staff especially Ruthie and the other lady tonight was super friendly. Definately will recommend to friends and family!

Came here for dinner with friends and had the feed me menu. We booked indoors, but didn’t realise half the tables are high tables with stools - wish we had real chairs, or at least stools with back rests. No option to distinguish when booking, my partner said. Live music was a lovely surprise. Kingfish crackers, satay chicken, and the dessert were delicious. The fish cakes were a bit bland and soggy. So not a perfect feed me menu, but decent and will leave you full. Will come back for the bottomless brunch sometime.

Before Covid, on business trip, came here at midnight for dessert and because the local dessert shops had either closed or well full. Honestly had a banger of a meal!! Made use of their authentic skills and got a list of awesome menus for some big group.
Hello. imnikki
Just some of the delicious food at Jamu from their Lunar New Year Menu, featuring dishes such as lobster bao, money bag dumplings with quail egg, truffle mushroom spring roll and much more. Flavours are on point, and execution is mostly faultless. If this is an indication of their other dishes, then it's definitely worth coming back for more. Absolutely in love with the cocktails too, how could I say no to Milo Martini?

We were pleasantly surprised of how fantastic the food and service was. The servings were large and the flavours are en pointe. The highlight of our dinner was the pork hock and the pandan cocktail. Will be back to try other dishes on the menu.

Wonderful food, wine and service. Well worth a regular visit. My favourites the KFC, hanger steak, raw meat and mango mousse.

Its name is inspired by the Malay word meaning 'to feast or to eat heartily' - which basically sums up my dining experience here :) Before I start, I really want to emphasize how amazing the service was. The guy who served us was very attentive, informative, and helpful thoughout the night letting us sample different wines and modifying Feed Me Menu for us to taste their best dishes #bigprops! $58 Feed Me Menu came with Freshly Shucked Oysters, King Fish Ceviche, Cheeseburger Spring Rolls, Fried Rice, Pork Hock, Grilled Greens and Coconut Sorbet. I personally loved King Fish Ceviche and Pork Hock.
King fish ceviche went harmoniously together with its savoury chips. It had a hint of fresh citrusy kick to it which was refreshing. I can honestly eat this forever.
Pork hock was HUGE but also delicious! It was roasted all around and had this crispy cracklin skin glazed with sweet sour sauce. Meat inside was so juicy and tender, literally melts in your mouth as soon as you put it in your mouth. You can tell that melted fat from the skin got infused into the meat making it more tender and succulent. It was absolutely intoxicating!

Pro Tip: they are chaging their menu in a few weeks so make a reservation soon if you'd like to try their current selection!

Offering a refined Modern Australian & Asian fusion dining experience, the unique yet perfectly executed dishes at Jamu are bound to satisfy.

From the gigantic Pork Hock to the small and delicate Coconut Bun, each and every component is carefully designed to compliment each other perfectly, to create the perfect flavour harmony.

SO GOOD. Literally all the food we had (and we ordered a lot) was incredible. The service was amazing - same owner as a thousand blessings. Highly recommend.

JAMU is the perfect go to for a quiet drink with a beautiful surrounding. The unique architecture is stunning to sit and appreciate. Their cocktails are mighty fine with their happy hour being one of the best in the area. So incredibly lucky to live so close. Defiantly a regular taking all my friends who also share the love for the beautiful customer service and their chefs do an amazing job ensuring all meals are super tasty.

AVOID THIS PLACE UNLESS IF YOU ARE HAPPY TO WAIT >1 HOUR IN BETWEEN COURSES FOR ORDINARY FOOD!

Spent my Valentines day here but what a letdown! All entree dishes came fast and easy. The cheeseburger spring roll was really special. We thought that's a great start of the night without realising the nightmare has just begun.

We waited OVER 1 HOUR to get our other 2 main dishes. We were starving and we looked around we saw other couples were also waiting anxiously.

During this 1 hour no one came top up our drinks neither does apologise.

Ok then our poor food finally came, the waitress was so rude, left the dish and left without saying a word! How about "Sorry about the wait"? And yet our sausage roll was still not being served so we decided to cancel.

The Fried Chicken Bao was so bad, chicken was so hard couldn't even bite into. Same as the chicken rib. KFC does better chicken than this place. This is not what I am looking for over 1 hour wait.

I am not sure where the good ratings came from. This restaurant took their customers for granted with rude services, average food and it wasn't even convenient to travel to.

My worst dining experience in a long time and on such a special day I am very disappointed.
William H
Great food and flavours - enjoyed every dish. Great ambience and cosy location. Would definitely return!

I was so excited to go to Jamu. It turned out to be a disappointment on every level. Don’t waste your time. Took over 90 minutes to receive our entrees after we spoke to staff twice. We were not attended to for over 60 minutes (not even to check for more drinks). Not once was there an apology and the serving staff avoided us like the plague after realizing they’d messed up. No manager in sight to address the issues. The food was average at best and most definitely not worth the wait. You can forgive a lot when there’s good service, but unfortunately service doesn’t exist at Jamu.
Innafatkid
Food looks great but is pretty average, we had the Bao, spring roll, sausage roll, pork hock, rice and pho tine. Only memorable item was the spring roll, sauce in the hock was so sweet it ruined the taste. Service was abysmal, they constantly brought things to our table we didn’t order, tried to take away my cocktail when it was still half full and there was a gap between 2 of the entrees and the rest of over an hour. Avoid.

Located in a quiet nook in Richmond, Jamu is a quaint restaurant with pleasant staff and attentive service and plenty of available street parking(!)

Coming here for date night with hubby, they were quite easily able to accommodate us when we arrived earlier than our 7:30pm booking, which was surprising for a Saturday night.

The waitress clearly explained the sharing model of the menu so we opted to have the smaller and larger sharing options; starting with the cheeseburger spring rolls and fried chicken bao.

For the larger dishes we had the mapo halloumi, crab and corn stuffed zucchini flowers and sticky lamb ribs.
Our standouts were the ribs and zucchini flowers, but overall I found the food to not be as exciting in flavour as it sounded on paper. For dessert we shared the matcha ice cream which was surprisingly subtle, as I don’t tend to like overpowering matcha flavours- which was paired with boba pearls and donuts (a substitute for the brownie they didn’t have), and I think I liked this better than I would have with the brownie.

Came here for an early Sunday dinner. Wasn’t very busy but staff were very attentive which was lovely. Beautiful quiet space in Richmond. Food was decent but with Melbourne having so many Asian fusion restaurant wasn’t enough to leave a lasting impression that would make me go back anytime soon

Jamu: A great place to feast and eat heartily, according to the Malaysia culture.

Dining is always best done together with those who hold great value in our busy lives, so it’s a blessing that we’ve found a venue with the perfect vibe and menu to allow this to happen in the heart of Richmond.

Jamu was brought to my attention by players of the football team which I strongly support, Hawthorn Hawks. Co-owner James Frawley & Isaac Smith know the importance of coming together, and it’s on the footy field that they do it with flair. They’ve teamed up with Evelyn Lau, and created something easily described as ‘dining magic’.

The interior echoes the fusion theme in the kitchen, with a mixture of copper, mesh and custom designed solid timber tables that are a nod to both local materials, and Asian style.

A well-executed culinary experience, headed by Calvin Wong in the kitchen, is inspired by the blend of Asia’s rich sweet, spicy, sour and salty flavours. From express lunch menu items, through to the ala cart menu with shared plates, large plates, and desserts; it’s an experience that certainly affords us the opportunity to feast. Stand out dishes include the Cone Bay Barramundi, and the O'Connor Angus Hanger MBS2+ Rendang, which was intensely flavourful and rich.

The drinks menu is just as impressive, showcasing a range of wines including several vegan options, beer, and cocktails.

Jamu has one of the best bottomless brunches in Richmond! Usually bottomless brunches either do drinks or good well but Jamu has the best of both worlds. The bao, dumplings and ribs were delicious (and you could re order more through out the sitting included in the price) and our drinks were topped up as soon as they were finished. The staff are great. Each sitting is 2 hours which offers excellent value for only $58 pp
Karina J
Excellent feed me menu. We had a fantastic range of dishes featuring a variety of proteins and vegetables. The stand out dishes included the kingfish ceviche, crispy eggplant, rendang steak, half chook and roast pumpkin. For dessert we had the milk donuts with a deliciously balanced orange mousse.
Charlottemhannah
Delish meal here for dinner on a Saturday night! Can recommend the steak (🤤) and the interesting twist on their eggplant and oyster dishes! Also perfect for a big group get together as plenty of space to spread out with friendly service! 👌🏻

This asian fusion restaurant is located in a quiet residential street in Richmond. It's nice and modern with a really cool vibe. We had the $49 bottomless brunch which gives you a selection of unlimited drinks, including mimosas, pimms, beer and aperol spritz, as well as a selection of food. As part of the deal, we had a serve of chicken wings, dumplings, bao buns, and lotus chips with dip. You have a two hour window when you book. The food and service was excellent, I recommend the lotus chips and chicken wings - they were delicious, but unfortunately we weren't able to reorder those two dishes as part of the deal. I'd definitely come back.
Gastrology
The restaurant has recently welcomed an array of new Winter dishes with mouth-watering dinner menu additions designed by Head Chef, Duc Dang, Lau and their unique team of talented chef’s. The new menu includes a range of dinner dishes designed to excite taste buds, leaving you feeling full and satisfied.

Staying true to JAMU’s colours, the tasty new dishes combine Malaysian flavours with a modern Australian twist.

To start we loved the Tofu & Mushroom Roll - Crispy beancurd skin encasing tofu and mushrooms, served with umami laden Enoki Teriyaki Sauce and fresh Watercress.

The pulled pork bao was similarly. Wonderfully fluffy bao buns were filled with luscious pulled pork that simply melted in our mouths and slathered with a classical mix of hoisin and soy sauce and topped with pickled cucumber and the brittle crackling.

For the main affair the it on the menu we are sure that the Beef Tartare or will

For mains the charred octopus was an absolute highlight of our visit. The octopus was cooked to absolute perfection, tender yet robust in texture, it was served with mouth-watering Thai sweet and sour sauce, purple potato and garnished with aromatic curry leaves.

For meat lovers the Bumbu Rendang Steak not to be missed. This dish was simply legendary. A thoroughly modern and commendable take on the traditional beef rendang this dish combined succulent, perfectly cooked flank steak slices adorned with heady, flavoursome rending sauce and topped with turmeric-battered beans. Just yum!

Dessert time showcased the kitchen’s versatility. The unassuming dessert of Milk Donuts was a standout. - Think stunning golden puffs that are ethereal in texture, served with luxurious orange and caramelised chocolate mousse alongside creamy black sesame ice-cream. It was an elegant and simply delicious dessert.

4.5/5
Good food, good service! Off the main streets of Bridge and Swan under the Jacques building but well worth a visit!
Cheeseburger spring roll very interesting and tasty, we also had kingfish and pork bao both very nice. The pumpkin we had with our mains was absolutely first class.

I went here for bottomless brunch
The Food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and attentive
Definitely will be going back again soon
Makan2Melbourne
Perfect ambience, not too loud, perfect for chilling and catching up. They had an interesting selection of cocktails. Tried their milo martini, which basically a dessert! Started with cheeseburger spring rolls, which tasted like actual cheeseburger. Although it was quite oily, the oil was coming out of the spring rolls when you cut into it. The crispy eggplant was one of the most popular dishes. They weren’t very crispy, some were not crispy at all. The inside was tender and the sauce wasn’t too sweet, had a slight sourness to it. The pork hock was huge, couldn’t finish even half of it. The skin was crispy, but a bit tough to cut. It was flavourful, the meat wasn’t bland. Overall, it was a pretty good dinner, especially liked the ambience, but it wasn’t as good as expected.
Michelle
Very average asian fusion food, nothing spectacular. Pork belly baos looked better than how they tasted, no sauce provided or flavour. I found most of their dishes repetitive in their flavours. Service was great.
Catherine
I would like to be polite, however I can’t express how angry I am that the restaurant decided to accept a group booking that took over the entire restaurant bar two tables. We spent the night yelling at each other to be heard. We had people hanging out at the “ bar “ which was not a bar but where staff were serving food, invading our space at our table. We would have left earlier had we known however our food arrived as did over 50 rowdy patrons.
The food was lovely and so too were the staff , however management were just greedy not closing the restaurant for a private function.
Jamu prides itself on being a local restaurant, as a local I will not be back.
Tj Peco
The tomahawk was absolutely mind boggling. Cooked so well considering it’s size. The crispy eggplant with the sweet sauce and the crispy greens well with it

Jamu Dining in Richmond hits that sweet spot between fine and casual dining perfectly, serving up modern South-East Asian fare in a beautifully refined space. Walking in with my partner for dinner, I thought to myself that we’d underdressed for such an establishment, but the wait staff were so welcoming that I was immediately put at ease.
Bites Of Melbourne
I hadn’t heard of JAMU before I was invited in for breakfast.

It’s in a quiet location in Richmond that you wouldn’t find if you didn’t know it was there or stumbled across it.

The coffee was great and the breakfast menu and several items I still want to try!

I did manage to try a few dishes and all equally as good and looked great.

Staff were super friendly.
Timinmelbourne
I had dinner here and the service was good. For entrees we startEd with swordfish ceviche which was good but we all agreed that the swordfish wasn’t prepared long enough as we couldn’t taste much citrus and the textures wasn’t right.

We also tried some pork belly bao buns and they were cooked perfectly, as was the bao buns which were light and fluffy, like cotton balls! Hahaha

We also ordered some cheeseburger spring rolls and they tasted very much like a cheeseburger! Go figure, they were fun.

For main course we ordered a pork hock w a side of rice and Brussel sprouts. The pork hock was cooked really well, the rice was good and the Brussel sprouts yummy.

The pork hock has a lot of meat on it, and it was twice cooked, OMGosh this was soo good!! Lol it was a carnivorous heaven!

Unfortunately for the sides we didn’t get much, in fact another table of two got the same amount of sides and there were 4 of us.

We really needed more sides and whilst we didn’t so for any, nine were offered.

For dessert we ordered sticky date puddings and whilst they were nice, they lacked sauce and therefore the pudding was dry. The coffee flavoured ice cream was nice but icy unfortunately.

Overall it was a nice night.

I was really disappointed in the food here. Giving it 2 stars as the service was lovely and a couple dishes were okay.
The first entree of the night was a big let down. We were warned by the waitress to be careful biting into the cheeseburger spring rolls as it is hot. However when we bit into it, it was cold; the cheese wasn’t even melted.
The pork belly bao was not sliced proportionately for the bao and was unappetizing to look at as it was just this huge slab of it. Left us chewing on fat for a while.
The chicken was okay - seasoning on outside was great however the inside was quite flavorless.
The eggplant was delicious and serving was a good size.
Barramundi was okay.
The sesame mince noodles is everything wrong with fusion. The taste did not blend well at all. I was left eating and thinking... am I enjoying this? Not sure... would’ve preferred sesame noodles by itself or classic zha jiang mian.
The cocktail I got blended rum and pineapple juice but left me wishing I ordered a Malibu pineapple instead.
Live,to,eat
Edamame guacamole + kingfish ceviche + glazed chicken wings + homemade roti bread + crispy eggplant + ma Jiang mian + pork hock

The Pork Hock was definitely the highlight...lovely crispy skin without it being too salty.. together with sweetness of the sauce paired with white rice - dynamite!

loved the rest of our dishes and if I MUST choose one to give up..the home made roti bread (but for those who love a super strong mushroom flavour paired with runny egg.. perhaps this is your dish).

Ambience was nice and not an overly large venue so you know you will be able to enjoy a good chat with your dinner crew even if the whole place was booked out for the night.

Lovely staff and dishes arrived in the right order (light to heavy) and at the right time (no obvious lag in between each course)!
Queenie Lao
Amazing food and very friendly staff, the boss was so kind to treat us a home baked toasted coconut bun with ice cream for dessert which was absolutely delicious! Definitely would Recommend this place.
Melbourniancritic (The Melbourne Experience)
Jamu Dining in Richmond takes inspiration from the Malay word meaning ‘to feast or to eat heartily’ and as we all know feasts are meant to be shared with friends, family or loved ones. So to live up to the name, Head Chef Calvin Wong has designed a delicious seasonal menu that is perfect for sharing, with the aim of bringing together quality local produce to create a Modern Australian range of shared plates with an Asian flair.

The service was attentive and the food was delicious. We started off with the cerviche entree - tart, tangy, and with a zing. Yum! The cheeseburger spring rolls brought me to a burger joint... in the form of a spring roll. Very tasty. The pork hock was such a delight. It was served with an apple slaw on the side which worked very well, cutting through that fatty gelatinous nature of the hock. The skin on the hock was perfectly crispy, absolute to die for crackling, and the meat was tender. The pork hock was the size of my head! Very well worth ordering.

I would definitely return.
The City Lane
Tucked away down an unassuming residential street in Richmond, JAMU sits idly waiting for those with an open mind and an adventurous palate. Quintessentially an Asian fusion restaurant, Chinese and Malaysian flavours are infused with Australian style.

Richmond is one of Melbourne’s largest and most prominent suburbs, home to some of the city’s best eating and drinking holes. While many are located on the major strips of Victoria, Bridge and Swan, I believe that Richmond's suburban backstreets and the venues located within them are the true heroes of the area.

Amazing vibes、 ambiance well spaced out tables. Open kitchen and great service.

Entree:
Cheeseburger springrolls - crispy skin and the filling inside is firm and flavoursome

Shared plate:
House baked roti is crispy with mushroom to compliment

Main:
Pork hock - a must try. Roasted all around 、 the Clcrispy crackling skin、 tender pork that falls apart with the bottom of the hock thats tough and roasted. The apple slaw complimented the meat.

Such an awesome restaurant with great atmosphere, super friendly and accommodating staff.
The food is so delicious, generous portions and every dish I’ve eaten has not disappointed (now been there twice)

Definitely worth a visit, you’ll definitely continue to come back!

Was vegetarian when I came here and while the pork hock and barramundi looked amazing, I couldn’t comment on taste. The people who ate them were very impressed though. What I would recommend would be the fried rice and crispy eggplant. They were standout dishes - delicious, flavourful, accompanied with sambal (for Malaysians! Rejoice!) The tofu salad was average. would def come back and have a non vegetarian meal.

Jamu is an amazing Asian fusion/modern Australian spot in Richmond. I chose their “Feed Me” menu which provides you with something from the raw section, the snacks section, 2 shared plates, 1 side and dessert! For $58 per person, you get a lot of food that actually fills you up too.

Every single dish I had was absolutely delicious! But my favourite dishes would have to be their kingfish ceviche, pork belly baos & their coconut sorbet.

I also tried their yuzu soda and ginger tonic mocktails which were super refreshing and great summer drinks.

The service was amazing and super attentive. The venue was gorgeous too! Will have to come in again to try their other dishes.
Quince And Cheese
Had an incredible dining experience at this gorgeous venue. The fit out it spacious and modern but cosy with touches of warm Scandinavia wood and marble. The staff are incredibly accommodating and the food is wonderful. I started with a (vegan) boozy matcha cocktail which tasted as good as it looked.

The menu includes all sorts of vegan and vegetarian delicacies including a super creamy and slightly spicy edemame guacamole with taro chips, a roti topped with various mushrooms and a panko-crusted egg, crispy eggplant in the most delicious sweet sauce, and a green salad composed of lima and green beans, fried basil and chilli.

The protein came in the form of a grilled tofu steak with fermented chilli sauce, crispy rice topping and fresh greens. It was simple which complemented the other, more intense dishes quite nicely. For dessert, a light coconut sorbet atop pineapple and mango was perfect - I was too full after the savoury fare to stomach much else, as much as I wanted to. If you're after a new upscale venue to try in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, regardless of dietary preference, this Asian fusion venue won't disappoint.
Soft Cheese Hard Core
Really loved the well executed food in a great space. Nice menu with good sizes to share. Cocktails really yum and staff great. Value for money too.

This place has it all and is destined for a chain of great reviews. The sleek venue, humble service and amazing menu!
The starters were your classics done perfectly. The won tons’ fillings offered a depth of flavour like no other, while the baos were balanced harmoniously with a light bun, soft and well marinated pork belly and right amount of acidity in the remainder of the filling.
The mains were just sensational. The beef rib was soft and fell off the bone. The barramundi was delicately cooked. The roast chicken was soft, moist and melted in your mouth.
I am just impressed!

Jamu at Richmond. Overall for food full mark but need a bit more with service. Total score 4.8! Love the food love the fusion. Asian style with Western cuisine served great cuisine. Good presentation quality food and delicious taste. Best duck salad and barramundi had in Melbourne. Perfectly cooked and nicely decorated. Taromisu is also a must order desserts. It is definitely on my top list to dine in Melbourne.

LIT!: we ordered the pork hock, shiitake noodles, soft shell crab, beef ribs, chicken ribs and fried eggplant. My favourite dishes was the shiitake noodles and beef ribs! They were full of flavour and the ribs were tender . Service and fit out needs a shout out.

NOT SO LIT: eggplant was undercooked but was still flavoursome! Pork hock has a lottt of fat but what did I expect?

Thank you to the crew for serving our birthday cake! X

Amazing food, we ordered the Feed Me option, and felt it was definitely amazing value, and couldn’t have possibly eaten more!
Service was attentive and friendly, but a little awkward - approaching table, and clearing plates with no or minimal conversation, I would assume that one of the waitress’ is new, and that will come with more experience and confidence.
All together a very nice meal, and will return in future!

Fantastic, friendly and attentive service. The girl who served us was so knowledgeable and gave us an exceptional dining experience. Thank you. The vibe and ambience are just out of this world. This is indeed a beautifully decorated and furnished restaurant. Absolutely stunning! The food we had was so delicious. The presentation was outstanding too. Very large portions. We couldn't even finish our food and we were very hungry when we got here. Unfortunately, there are not enough food options to choose from on the menu. Hope the management and the chefs add some more dishes on to the menu. I highly recommend this amazing gem of a restaurant. Great place to have a tasty meal alone, with friends, on a date or even with kids. We are absolutely in love with the amazing service and the food. We cannot wait to go back.

Very nice place. Good decor and good atmosphere. Waitress Ella is very friendly and service is very good.
Food is superb - very interesting fusion and we were both guessing what’s in the dish that added some fun :)
Will be back next time with more people and do the tasting course... which I didn’t know it would include entree, starter, main and dessert!
Music is also very good (as a big fan of japanese anime)
Must eat Taromisu!!! It’s a bit sweet though the flavour and texture is very good.
JB
Super helpful and friendly staff. Nice modern fit out. The food was a great modern take on some Asian classics and them some completely different. The tartare was amazing as to the XO mushroom dish. Cheeseburger spring rolls were fun! Definitely be back as as good as it was I need to try more. Bring on the Sarawak laksa.....

We dined at Jamu last night. Was a great experience, was very impressed with all dishes. It’s also a beautiful venue. Probably my favourite dining experience this year, and I love my food! I will be back soon.

Came to have dinner at Jamu to the high rating and we had the set meal. I wasn’t impressed and I’m surprised it’s rated so high. I didn’t enjoy the pork belly and the rest was just fine. I liked that they had rusden wine but I won’t be back.

Lovely restaurant tucked away behind the busy streets of bridge road. Staff were very friendly and gave some good recommendations.
We tried the king fish ceviche, chicken ribs and cheeseburger spring roll (kinda tasted like a maccas quarter pounder burger, but a premium version of it?). All of which were really good!
Pork Hock was definately a dish that needed to be shared between at least 2. The roti bread was a bit underwhelming though, as it resembled the packaged spring onion pancakes that you can get from Asian supermarkets, and the portion was tiny for $5.
Dessert was average. The taromisu was pleasant but the taro flavour could be stronger.
Worth a visit :)
Pineapple San
First of all, the interior is amazing. Definitely gave a classy vibe which I enjoyed. The waitress was also very accommodating and attentive.
We decided to try the ‘Feed Me’ option, which was basically meant we took food gamble as the menu would be a surprise.
We got to try the chicken ribs, kingfish ceviche, crispy eggplant, duck salad, barramundi, Brussel sprouts and the Taromisu. The stand outs for me was the kingfish ceviche and barramundi main. I really liked the crispy eggplant too (it was very crispy and flavoursome)! The kingfish was very fresh and had a wonderful balance of flavours. The barramundi was definitely cooked to perfection and paired well with the sambal, which tasted quite authentic. However, the other dishes were a bit lacklustre for me, especially the brussel sprouts which I am not a fan of. The Taromisu is an interesting concept and I enjoyed the coconut jelly. Unfortunately I found the sponge a little too sweet and dry.
I would definitely return to try their other dishes. I am especially curious to try the cheeseburger spring roll!
Mrs Mark
Came here for dinner. Pros: relaxed atmosphere, nice decor. Cons: we had the feed me option, firstly they wouldn’t tell us what it included (ie. it didn’t include anything we would ordinarily order), very small portion sizes- they even skimped on the rice.
Eating Away Melbourne
Went to Jamu for a later dinner after the movies. The restaurant is hided in a laneway so its very quiet and peaceful. We went super late it wasn't too busy. Ordered a cocktail Hazy Daisy to start with and it was literally perfect so refreshing!

For food we had the chicken ribs, crispy eggplant, mushroom noodles, pork main and a side of roti. Chicken ribs were so juicy and tender, loved them! Crispy eggplant was a bit hard inside like a bit under or maybe we are just used to soft over cooked eggplant. Mushroom noodles were so interesting exactly like the staff told us "a chinese pasta". Enjoyed the mushroom flavour of it very much! The pork is a big portion very tender it fell off the bone but there was no sauce on the plate so the whole dish felt a bit dry and plain. Roti was a nice little side dish that can soak up the sauce on the eggplant.

Tried the Taromisu in the end and it was sooo good! Love the idea of taro flavoured tiramisu! And the coconut jelly in it makes it super interesting. Service was super friendly! Recommend!!

Best food here and quality service! I recommend the beef tartare, pork hock, noodles, and taromisu!!! Such unique flavours. It was like fine dining for excellent price!

Such a pretty place with polite and caring staff members. Place was spacious and tables were far enough from each other to have adequate privacy.
The Brussel sprouts are to die for and the oolong dessert was a nice subtle end to a decent meal. Would definitely return !!!

3.5. The Feed Me option for $50 was great value and the food was very good overall. We started with the edamame guac which was nice although a little bland, and the chicken ribs which were very tasty, and could've been excellent if the skin was crispy. Next was the beef tartare (very nice), duck salad (good), and crispy eggplant (delicious, one of the best dishes of the night!). For mains, the barramundi was great with sambal, whilst the pork hock was generous but could've had even more sauce to scoop onto the plentiful meat and the skin could've been crispier. Brussels sprouts were really good, and the choc mousse dessert was not bad. The restaurant space is lovely, and feels quite intimate as the tables are spread out and close to the full-length windows. Will definitely be back to try the other items on their menu.

Decided to give the place a try on a Thursday night. Got there at 6pm and the place was practically empty. We were politely greeted by the waitsfaff and were given a seat. We soon realised that it would have been a good idea to make a reservation as the placed filled up quick within the next half hour.

We went with the feed me menu and were absolutely satisfied from the start to end. The highlight was the raw king Ora salmon dish and crispy eggplant. For $50/pp it was definitely one of the best feed me menu we've had - both quality of ingredients and quantity of food served.

Highly recommend

Visited:
On a Tuesday night in winter @ 7pm. Party of 3.

Food:
We enjoyed the chefs selection, which was superb value at $50 per head. King Fish Cerviche was the highlight of the entrees. Remaining entrees all had a delicious sauce and the Asian flavours mixed well with every dish.

Our main was the pork hock. The tamarind caramel sauce was delicious. However, the pork could have been a little less tough and the crackling could have been slightly more crisp.

Chocolate mousse for dessert when down a treat, but was nothing worth writing home about.

Atmosphere:
Although the restaurant was half empty, the atmosphere was warm and at times vibrant. Had the restaurant been full (say on a Saturday night), the concrete floor, glass walls and metal ceiling would have created an even more lively environment - something to consider when deciding what type of dining experience you’d like.

Service:
The staff were absolutely lovely. One small issue was the timing of our meals. The main was delivered quite some time after our entrees had left the table. However, the wait was worth it and the staff offered us a coffee on the house after desserts and were adequately apologetic, so this wasn’t a deal breaker.

Final say:
Superb value and a enjoyable dining experience. Worth a visit.

Bathroom:
Shows high potential, white sink basin was a fatal flaw as it did not suit the overall aesthetic of the room.

Really enjoyable dinner. The venue was fantastic, I can imagine how pretty it would be during the day.

The cheeseburger springrolls tasted just like a big mac, there was even pickles in there, but I thought it was a little too acidic. The kingfish ceviche was great, super fresh and well-balanced. But the chicken ribs were really disappointing, the serving just didnt look generous and the batter was far too salty.

For mains we had the soft shell crab, which we quite liked, but since we ate it after the beef it had gone a little soggy already. Oh and the baos, though a great idea, was too dense to be tasty. The beef was pretty good, perfectly cooked, I had a few chewy, sinewy bits though, but that sauce...man, they should just bottle that stuff up and sell it.

DEFINITELY ORDER THE CRUNCHY EGGPLANT! That was the dish of the night for me, who knew a vegetable could taste so good?

The milo parfait was ok, all the components were great, but the parfait itself was too icy and a little bland. Loved the taromisu, what an original and well executed concept.

Living in Richmond I was pumped to try local Jamu following its glowing reviews, hoping I would have the local equivalent of Chin Chin to go to. The decor and staff are great but sadly the food doesn't match the hype. Cheese spring roll is good in the same way hotdogs are, fried eggplant is run of the mill with average vinegar, chicken is filling but not fullfilling, and barramundi sambal is good but any decent Malay/Indo restaurant will match the flavours. The wine list is a decent shortlist and reasonably priced but overall Jamu pleases rather than delights. Just don't understand the ratings to date.

Nice little fit out in a new apartment complex which I’m ok with. Service we had was very good and it was a busy Saturday night. Started with the chicken ribs which you only got 4 small ones which I reckon was pretty average. Cheeseburger spring rolls were excellent. Ordered the crispy pork hock which was good but definitely thought if needed some more sauce. Steak was tender and had good flavours. For desert we had this chocolate thing which was unbelievable and one of the great deserts I’ve had and then on top of that they gave us an extra desert the pavlova compliments if the chef which was a great touch. Recommend going along trying it out and support another local business.

Heard about this new restaurant from Instagram and my was I amazed! This place is so good! I definitely recommend the cheeseburger spring rolls, the ribs, the Singapore soft shell crab, pork knuckle and the pavlova!!! It’s now one of my new favourite asian fusion places, you can’t go wrong with asian fusion. Hidden off the main Richmond street. But worth every penny! Enjoyed every minute of it.

Amazing dinner at Jamu. Located at the Ground Floor of an apartment building in Richmond, the ambience was lovely, and service exceptional.
We went for the Feed Me option with 8 dishes, 4 courses, $50.
The asian-inspired Mocktails were amazing!
Started off with the king salmon, chicken ribs - both amazing!
The crispy eggplant was great! KFC interesting.
I wasn't too big of a fan of the Hainanese Chicken Rice Salad or the Roast Chooks.
Loved the two desserts that followed, the busted pavlova was light and refreshing. I absolutely loved the flavours of the taromisu - amazing creation by the chef!
Will be back for more.

In a quiet suburban area, is a beautiful and modernised Asian fusion restaurant from an ex-Masterchef contestant. We were so pleased with the relaxed vibes of the restaurant and the open spaciousness, with ability to accommodate for large groups or an intimate affair. The concept and style of the menu is slightly confusing in terms of portion sizes, but overall we had an enjoyable night, with a few amazing highlights in entree and dessert but unfortunately disappointing mains.

The decor is great it was what attracted us to the venue. We went for lunch and the food was delicious and staff were friendly and attentive. 10/10 would recommend.

As a group of 8 we got the feed me option at Jamu over the weekend and it was tasty and excellent value at $50pp. Being so new they don’t have a liquor license yet but the mocktails were delicious enough to almost make up for it. The design of the restaurant is very sleek and the feed me menu was well balanced with 2 entrees, 2 small dishes, 2 mains and 2 desserts. My favourites were the crispy eggplant, pork hock and the desserts - busted pavlova and milo sorbet. Overall great new Asian fusion restaurant with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

A group of us checked out Jamu last night after hearing some really positive reviews. Firstly, on entering, the decor grabbed my attention, as it had a lovely ‘fine dining’ feel to it, very stylish. Secondly, the staff were all wonderful, very upbeat and friendly. Thirdly, the background music added to the atmosphere...bands like Phoenix, Tame Impala, miike snow. Because there was 8 of us, we partook in the feed me menu, which was great value for money. Disappointed we didn’t get to try the cheeseburger spring rolls, but there’s also nothing I would have substituted out so it’s a hard call. And now I’ll just have to come back! Every dish we tried was full of flavour and had a variety of textures, which always adds excitement to dishes. Loved the kingfish entree, and the pork hock crispy skin was just delightful. My friend also got a cauliflower vegetarian main dish, and I think that should be put on the menu because it was incredible! Overall, a great new addition to the Richmond food scene (albeit off the beaten track), and I will be back to try out some more dishes soon!

We recently met up with the lovely Hello. Imnikki over the Easter break to experience Jamu after our initial plans didn’t work out (we forgot to take into consideration the fact that a lot of restaurants were closed for the public holiday!). Anyway Jamu has been popping up a lot lately and describe themselves as modern Australian with Asian influences so it peaked out interest to check it out.

This is a gem of a place, hidden away but worth looking for. From the classy decor to the staff and service and then the food there is excellence to a fault. The dishes are brilliant with excellent vegetarian and meat base options. There are ingenious takes on standard dishes like cheeseburger spring rolls and the KFC cauliflower all with an Asian twist and flavor! The eggplant dish was extraordinary as were the pork and chicken dishes. The deserts are ridiculously good which is pretty unusual for an Asian style restaurant. The weird lack of a liquor license is probably why it was so quiet in a Friday night! Have the tea instead of booze, the amazing black teapots are worth it by themselves. We will be back for sure and hopefully a liquor license will have been approved by then
Hello. Imnikki
I haven't heard of Jamu until One Piece Left suggested that we head there for dinner as our original plan fell through. Superb choice OPL! Not to mention, awesome company as well.

A casual yet elegant venue beckon us on our arrival. Ever so friendly, the waitstaff explained the menu to us, giving us recommendations on what and how to order. Obviously, we rebelled. The four of us decided to share 5 entrees, one mid-size dish, two mains and 4 desserts between ourselves. Mainly because we couldn't decide; everything on the menu sounded so enticing.

The entrees only needed to be described in one word - marvellous. The cheeseburger spring rolls, raw ora king salmon and the raw beef were the standout dishes for me. Big on flavours and an absolute sensory delight. The cheeseburger spring rolls tasted just like a moist and beefy patty encased in a delicate yet crunchy pastry - delicious!

I enjoyed the mains very much as well. The roast chook was succulent and tender, and oozing with flavours. For fans of Singapore chilli crab, then you can't go past the soft shell crab. The fried mantou were perfect to mop up the slightly thick, sweet, salty and spicy sauce.

The only thing that didn't really tickled my fancy was the char siu pork (even though I was the one who wanted to order it. Sorry guys!). It was a sous vide version of the traditional char siu, and all I can say is "if something ain't broke, don't fix it".

Now here comes the best part - the desserts! I couldn't pick a favourite. The mango mousse and the taro-misu both blew my mind. Both so delicate yet brimming with flavours, I could eat both of them by myself! Definitely a great ending to a great night!

PS - Beware of the 15% public holiday surcharge. Surcharge was expected, but I guess I have been too used to just a 10% surcharge.

Went to this relatively new restaurant on a quiet sunday afternoon for a late lunch. Decided to settle on the Pork Hock with caramelised tamarind and pineapple sauce after some recommendations by the owner himself. He also recommended to have it with steam rice since the flavours would be quite strong, hence it will go well with steam rice. And I agreed. The pork hock had crispy skin on the outside which was lovely. The pineapple and tamarind sauce was sweet and sticky which reminded me of Thai influence sweet chilli sauce. Not spicy, but definitely tangy, sweet and sour flavour. I enjoyed the crispness of the hock skin, the flavour of the sauce and the tenderness of the meat underneath the skin. I asked for freshly cut chili in fish sauce to balance out the sweetness of the dish, which the owner happily accommodated my request. I also had the opportunity to enjoy their fried chicken wings, which had hints of salted egg flavour and curry leaves, served with chilli powdered mayo. The wings were delicious, although crispier skin and slightly more hint of salted egg flavour would have been perfect (in my honest opinion).
I also really enjoyed their watermelon & strawberry mocktail. Refreshing cure on warmer afternoon.
Cosy and and modern dining room with beautiful interior design with a nice choice of ambiance music playing in the background. Polite and accomodating service by the staff and the owner himself. Overall a pleasant and enjoyable lunch.

Came here for dinner before going to see Ed Sheeran plus it’s in my apartment complex. We ordered the ceviche which is amazing, highly recommend, the cheeseburger spring rolls which were super tasty and the soft shell crab which was a very generous size but super chilli. Will come back as everything looks so tasty.

Jamu is one of Richmond’s newest eateries. Tucked away in a side street off bridge road, you won’t stumble across this place but we recommend you checking it out. Serving modern Asian fusion cuisine, they have some unique dishes that are made so well.
We had spring rolls for entree and dessert - AMAZING - with entree version being magnificent Cheeseburger Springrolls and the dessert version being banana Springrolls served with a caramel sauce and coconut Icecream. Yummm!
The other standout dishes were the lamb neck that comes with a tasty and sweet sauce and the char siu pork which is served simply on a plate but is packed full of flavour. The roast potatoes and the broccolini were the perfect sides.
The milo sorbet dessert was also a winner!
Everything is done well and done with care, I recommend.
Thanks for having us guys!

We were lucky enough to try this place. We would love to call this place a hidden gem! Everything was absolutely amazing, from interior design to drink menu.

What we love the most was the dessert, hard to explain but they are unique and divine!

The beef was also delicious just melted in our mouth.

Would love to go back again if we have a chance ! :)
@twogoodtoresist
Modern Australian with Asian fusion, Jamu really wowed us with their amazing food filled with flavour and the stunning ambience of the restaurant. Despite not having an alcohol license yet, the restaurant still blew us away with every dish unique in flavour and tasty beyond comprehension. We even loved the mocktails!!! The salmon tartare was to die for with the most amazing contrast between flavours and textures! Their hallmark cheese burger spring roll was amazing, like a Big Mac with crunch! The crispy eggplant dish was a stand out for us and the crunchy crab main dish was incredible too. The milo dessert was a phenomenal end to an amazing experience which tantalized every taste bud and left us very full but wanting so much more!
The Food Baby Maker
A friend suggested this place and even though the zomato reviews were not super high I decided to give it a try.

My mind was blown away loved every dish but my highlights were the 1) Ceviche 2) Crispy eggplant 3) The busted Pavlova 🤤

Everything was sooooo good! Excellent portion sizes too super generous.

We ended up doing the feed me menu and struggled to fit everything in but was sooooooooooo satisfied by the end.

What a happy find! Great food, awesome service and amazing value - I will most definitely be back again!

We booked an early dinner for 3 at Jamu on a Saturday night, and our experience could not have been any better! From the moment we walked in to the very end, we were very well taken care of by the amazing staff and satisfied with the even more amazing food! On top of this, the interior is very modern and, despite being a small restaurant, very spacious and comfortable - we loved the open kitchen too!

After getting a rundown of the menu by our friendly waiter, we decided to order the cheeseburger spring rolls, salted egg chicken wings, kingfish ceviche, crispy eggplant, soft shell crab and the roast Bendigo chook. We did order a little too much, however, all the food was absolutely delicious! Our favourites were the soft shell crab, the fried mantou was so soft and crispy and amazing, and the salted egg yolk chicken wings, with the tasty mayo sauce. Thankfully, we were able to take away our leftovers, which were packed nicely in a good-quality container.

Despite being quite full, we couldn’t pass on the dessert! We decided to go for the “taromisu”, their own special play on the traditional tiramisu, and it was definitely worth it! It was nice and creamy and light, and paired well with the coconut jelly. I think that the taro flavour could still bit a little stronger though!

Overall, our experience at Jamu was delightful, and we will definitely be back again in the future! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for creative and modern Asian fusion cuisine!
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Jamu is one of Richmond’s newest, and most exciting eateries to appear in a while. From the team behind nearby cafe A Thousand Blessings, Jamu presents Asian cuisine with a modern, seasonal touch. In the kitchen, you might spy Kan Nguyen of Masterchef fame. Part of a new urban precinct, Jamu’s suave, beautifully designed interior features plenty of slick black, contrasted with wood and flourishes of copper. High ceilings and an undercover outdoors area add to its flexibility as a venue.

Really creative and modern Asian fusion style menu. Between two we shared a range of small dishes including the salmon sashimi, cheeseburger spring rolls, char sui pork, the lamb neck and the broccolini. The salmon was lovely and fresh and the spring rolls were delicious. I also really enjoyed the pork. I did feel that the lamb was a little rich though as it was both very fatty and coated in a very sticky sweet sauce. Also be aware that they still don’t have their liquor license.
Stefanie Page
The food wasn't amazing and is nothing to rave about. Had much better food and flavours in other places. It's also quite expensive for what it is.
It was pretty quiet for a Thursday evening. They still don't have a liquor license so you can't order alcohol to enjoy with your dinner.
Must say was pretty disappointed with the restaurant. But as it's new am hoping to see how it picks itself up over the year.

Probably the finest Asia fusion restaurant since ChinChin glory days. Went with kids and service was excellent. Classic Malaysian and Thai influences with incredible flavours and consistency over all courses
Will be back and repeatedly 👍🏼

Such a lovely meal! Great decor / setting. Helpful and attentive service. Delicious food- the soft shell crab was amazing!! Highly recommend.

The interior designer of this venue has done an amazing job. It’s sleek, refined and elegant. The service is great and Chong is a gracious host and he even catered for our dietary requirements. We elected for the feed me and wow there was so much food. All the dishes were incredibly delicious and presentation was exceptional. The pork hock and Hainan chicken salad were my personal faves. I was so overwhelmed I forgot to take photos of the desserts but took one of the strawberries and cream after we devoured it. They are still waiting for the liquor license but they have a great selection of drinks. Needless to say we were all so satisfied after such an amazing meal. I’ll be back to try the soft shell crab soon.

Great fitout with very attentive and friendly staff. Food was delicious and good portions. Glazed ham hock was a stand out as to were the chicken wings. Deconstructed Pavlova for dessert was also a winner.

Modern take on SE Asian cuisine. Very accommodating for groups. Need to return to explore the menu. Sit back and enjoy the culinary tour on your palate!

We have been here several times.
Food was delicious and fresh and service was good as well.
JAMU is a beautiful space with absolutely amazing food! The staff are extremely friendly and hospitable, and the whole eating experience was wonderful.

Visited JAMU a few times and the food, ambience and service are all top notch.
Must try the pork hock, the skin is shatteringly crispy and flavours delicious, as well as the chilli softshell crab
Cheeseburger springroll is another recommendation, an unusual combination that works surprisingly well.

In the times I have been, the quality of food has been consistent, will be coming back! Lots of parking nearby and relatively quiet the times I had been

So happy to have this as our new local restaurant. Food was lovely and the fit out is very stylish... servings were very generous. We sat out in the courtyard & only thing I would suggest is to have some music playing out there.

I visited JAMU twice already and both time I was very happy with the excellent service and of course the scrumptious dishes! The portions are actually larger than I thought, so ask before you order. The venue is very spacious, it’s good for large group or even party of two. Both times I visited during weeknight, they were not as crowded, so noise level is very manageable (I think we were the noisiest table). Overall I definitely will visit again. The only drawback is no alcohol served yet, hopefully they have it on the menu soon, but nothing will stop me to try all dishes in the menu!

Food 3/5: Ordered the CKT and was too salty. Basically just saltiness on my palette.
Ambience 4/5: Its a very nice restaurant with good ambience
Service 4/5: Service wasn't too bad and staff was friendly and efficient. Would be giving a 5/5 if they would have took some action or responded with something on my feedback.
Price 2.5/5: Pretty much paying for the ambience and not so much for the food. Portion is quite small and variety is limited as well. And I feel it is overpriced
Location 4/5: Prettt convenient for me.
Delicious modern Asian-Australian food and delightful service. They're not serving alcohol yet but it didn't worry us - their mock tails are delicious too. Thanks!
